Reviews of Lunar
L. P.
Came for a Saturday lunch for a birthday celebration, and certainly made the occasion very special. We arrived early so sat for cocktails, the menu was eclectic and exciting, and all the ones we had were worthy of 5 stars.
Each of our party had a starter and main, and the restaurant accommodated our gluten free member very well. The lamb sweetbreads worked perfectly with the caramel coating, though the yuzu on the vegetable tempura was slightly too sweet. The lobster and scallop dishes were good. For mains, the star of the show was the clay baked chicken, opened at the table. It was moist and the treasured rice and sauce was full of flavour. The turbot was cooked to perfection and indulgently rich, though the portion size was just right because of that.
The wines were great and the service was exceptional. Overall it felt a little overpriced, but definitely worth it for a special occasion. I really wish them the best of luck because there's nothing else like it in Stoke and the story behind the restaurant is great.

Lunar is exquisite!
We visited here for a special treat and it didn't disappoint.
Everything from the decor, the atmosphere, the story, the staff right down to the pinnacle of the food and drink.
Lovely to have a unique restaurant from the brilliant local lad and Michelin starred Niall Keating.
Dining underneath the giant moon is fun.
The service was impeccable to match the standard of the food and drink.
Obviously a bit of a price tag, but expected. Despite that, I thought the price wasn't too bad for the overall experience and culinary masterpiece we experienced.
A definite recommendation for any foodie!

The Lunar Experience Menu was absolutely amazing. The dishes were a work of art, the paired wine flight complemented every course perfectly. The atmosphere was open and inviting with a staff that ensured everything was done to a high standard. Could not ask for a better evening to spend our anniversary.

What an amazing dinning experience. From the moment you enter you know this is going to be a great place to dine.
The decor is beautiful and all local artist which I really like.
The food is amazing and I eat out alot. Definitely a 5 star review here.
The small plates have so many flavours. Some very cool and inspirational food.
Even the bread comes from Trentham bakehouse which is amazing to see local guys having an amazing places to showcase their talent.
The mains are amazing too. Again the the flavours are a great experience.
Also forgot to mention. The drinks. We had a few cocktails and again a great drink to make the evening extra special.
Definitely a great place to go with your friends and family and if you not been make sure you book. You will not be disappointed.

I can’t praise this restaurant enough. The food was out of this world, every dish was impeccable! I’ve been dreaming about it ever since. The service was outstanding and the staff was highly knowledgable about everything they are serving. The restaurant itself is incredible cool and I love the interior and the story behind it!

It's OK - but certainly not there yet. It just feels too pretentious, and there's no need to be. The setting is great and the staff obviously make the effort and know the menu and drinks, the portion size for starters is such that we were recommended to share 4 of them, which is OK, but the bill for that was then pushing £50. The brisket was lovely, but it's cheap meat so again way overpriced, and the dessert was just OK.They really need to work on the atmosphere and the basics, it just feels a bit unwelcoming and you have to wait for ages between courses
Make it simple, delicious, and not crazy money and you'll have a great experience, unfortunately it's just not good enough to return....yet

Fantastic food and service. Interesting flavours and ideas, dishes are Michelin star quality but would have liked to seen something done with the bread to start and maybe a pallette cleanser between mains and dessert.

Wow what a meal!! The best restaurant for many miles. It was a short and well judged menu and we all 4 had something different and really enjoyed it. The flavour of the crab was fresh from the sea. Fantastic explosions of taste from the Samphire and drips of dressing. The Sea Bream was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Meaty and moist. And with it we chose the second least expensive white wine on the menu, a Marlborough sauvignon blanc. The intense fragrance of tropical fruit and citrus were mesmerising. The crockery and glassware are very beautiful. Staff were discrete and naturally friendly. It was an anniversary meal for my parents and formed a perfect happy memory for us all.

We booked the chefs table and the whole experience exceeded all expectations.
The food was outstanding with sustainably sourced produce and creative plates that were just delicious
The front of house team made us feel so special, with great knowledge of the dribks and menu and you got a sense that all the staff bought into the lunar concept and were happy to be there.
An absolutely incredible experience. Huge thanks to the whole Lunar team.

I really like what they’ve done here in terms of art, history, connections with Josiah Wedgwood on whose property the restaurant is based. Waiting on staff are informative and flavours are awesome which I guess you’d expect from a Michelin starred chef. What would propel my grade from 4 star to 5 star is larger portions or smaller prices or both! Stoke-on-Trent is not known socio-economically as an affluent place and, although there are some wealthy families nearby, I doubt there are enough to use Lunar as a regular venue. There is a sense of theatre/a sense of occasion in visiting here though and the owner has to be applauded for trying to give the Potteries + Staffordshire something totally different!

We could review Lunar in one word - excellent! It was a delightful evening with fantastic food. Yes, you were recommended to have three or four small plates for starters but we have been to other restaurants which do the same and it means that you get to taste a wider variety of tastes and flavours -who wouldn’t want that? We had the turbot for main which was so good. Service was excellent. The staff were so friendly yet professionally and had good knowledge of the food and drinks. A relaxed, comfortable evening with lovely food. Well done to the whole team.

My wife and I went to Lunar to celebrate her birthday last week. Hands down the best overall experience in a restaurant we had in a while. The area needed a restaurant like this. The floor team is knowledgeable about the menu, the story of Wedgwood and the potteries, which I found to be an extra touch to the whole experience. The cocktail menu is well crafted, the wine offering covert all taste and price point. Chef Niall offers a well-thought menu where local products are showcased in delicious and beautiful dishes. We will come back.

Went for Sunday lunch and it was exceptional. Extremely attentive staff, delicious food and immaculately presented. Had beef with traditional trimmings and a rice donut for desert. The gravy with the main was beautifully rich, the cauliflower cheese was perfectly prepared and everything was perfectly complimentary. The desert was not overly sweet and a balance of cold cream and warm dough. Best meal of the year..
J. S.
Did not disappoint. Only dropped from 5 stars as it felt the team waiting on tables were a member short. Individually they were brilliant. Tinsley was knowledgeable, friendly and did a great job but due to the number of covers he could not be as attentive as expected. There was a short wait for service on several occasions.
Regarding the food, as recommended we chose four starters between the two of us. This enabled us to share and sample more of the amazing flavours. Main course and dessert was equally lovely. Food gets five stars.
This lived up its Michelin star billing and honestly if you want cheap meal then there is the local pub. It did not feel expensive for the quality of fare we received.

We visited today for Sunday lunch. The staff were amazing and the food was fantastic. We were able to take our time. Would highly recommend and will be visiting again.
D. W.
Sunday lunch menu is excellent, we had to start the Cornish crab salad, the beetroot salad. To follow the roast sirloin of beef, the roast chicken and to finish two lots of the chocolate cremeux. Great choice of wines, prompt and discreet service from wonderful staff under the 'full moon'. Highly recommend it, next time we'll try the tapas style or perhaps the chef's table

Had a fantastic experience at Lunar this weekend. The food was to die for, this was our first experience of fine dining and my husband commented that it was a wonder to him, having never had so many flavour explosions happen in his mouth all at once. The atmosphere was like nothing I've experienced before and the staff were really knowledgeable, not just about the food and cocktails (which were insane!) but also about the history and back story of the restaurant. Would 100% recommend and will be booking back in ASAP.
Thanks for a wonderful evening!

What a fabulous restaurant to come to Stoke food scene! We went for Sunday Lunch, there were a range of dishes on the menu to chose from so everyone would be able to pick not matter what your taste - not just your usual roast and the value for money was fantastic.
The welcome as soon as we stepped inside from the cold was lovely with the staff being super attentive throughout our visit. They were all very knowledgeable about the food and drinks that they were serving and did it all in a friendly and welcoming way whilst maintaining the level of elegance and professionalism that the setting demands.
We will be returning again soon!

The staff are wonderful, introducing the restaurant and its roots on entry, the table service was also excellent with knowledgeable staff advising on food and drinks. The venue itself is beautiful especially with the local art and pottery. We really enjoyed our evening and our meal.

Finally got to Lunar for Sunday lunch yesterday. What an amazing experience. All three courses were perfection. I'm only ever eating roast beef there from now on! Everything sourced locally. The vegetables were cooked to perfection as was the Yorkshire pudding.
What added to the experience were the staff who were so knowledgable and attentive. We were even lucky enough to meet the man himself Niall Keating . A fine dining restaurant not to be missed.
V. E.
Food was expected exceptional. Staff were attentive but nit intrusive. They were happy to give us details on the food that we were unsure of. All in all a fabulous way to celebrate our anniversary. Well done, will definitely be back . 👍 👍👍

Although high end prices, the food and the service was outstanding, so fair play to Niall Keating and all the staff. The food was outstanding in flavour and presentation, service exceptional from the minute we entered to saying goodbye at the end. Well worth the price. You know what they say, "you get what you pay for". You will not find a finer dining experience within 35 miles of Lunar.
Just fantastic!

I was a bit apprehensive about going, I was in a party of five for Sunday lunch there wasn't a big choice the portions were a bit small we all had a main and a pudding a few cocktails and the bill was £330. It was alright for one a off, the foods nothing to write home about ,doubt if I'll go again ( I could've got away with paying £90 less when the waitress put the wrong amount in the card machine, but me being too honest pointed out the mistake didn't want to get in trouble)

We had heard excellent reports of Lunar so we went to try it for ourselves on Sunday 30/1/22 and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is also an art gallery which creates an interesting ambiance. The staff are knowledgeable and pleasantly attentive providing service at a very comfortable pace, not to fast and not too slow. The food was absolutely delicious. Two of us had the roast beef, gloriously pink with a wonderful rich gravy and one had the Sea Bream perfectly cooked and seasoned. The vegetables were spot on, gorgeously al dente and lunch was rounded off with scrumptious puds, Creme Brûle and Pineapple Tarte Tatin. Overall an excellent experience and we will be certainly be returning.

Seemingly a few teething problems reading other reviews but we enjoyed a leisurely 3 course Sunday lunch, over 2hrs 30 mins. Probably a little wait between courses but we didn't really notice. Food was good, service skilled and attentive. The £25 for two courses offer is very reasonable. Interested to try the main menu and full price in the new year

I had an amazing meal here - full of exciting combinations of tastes and flavours. The cocktail menu is beautifully thought out and presented and the decor is fabulous. 5 stars, everyone should get to experience Lunar.

Lovely food experience 😋 nicely greeted on arrival, well worth the money. I would definitely go again and try a few more of the dishes on offer, although we did try all four desserts, my favourite was the Matcha.

I went here recently I have to say the food was amazing my husband had the chicken and I had the pumpkin ravioli it was delightful. The service was excellent and the waitress was more than helpful when picking a fantastic wine. The attention to detail with the glass wear and the ambiance was great. Can’t wait to visit again.

I have visited this restaurant twice now, firstly for Sunday lunch and secondly for dinner last night and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience on both occasions. The Sunday lunch was traditional but with a classy twist, and last nights food (for me, steak tartare to start and turbot for main) was magnificent. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the service is stylish, professional and friendly. The whole experience was a delight and this restaurant is, in my opinion, a world class addition to the North Staffordshire hospitality scene.

Celebrated our friend Dan's 50th birthday on the night of Friday 24th June.
The whole experience was jaw dropping, the attention to detail, the service and the quality of the food means only one thing. I'll be back and I'll tell all my friends about this place.
Outstanding, well done All concerned
J. B.
Amazing food and drinks (non alcoholic cocktail), made to feel very welcome. All served on Wedgewood plates and cutlery. Relaxed but felt very highend. Amazing decor. Great idea.

Super experience and fabulous food, really enjoyed from start to finish.

My partner and I both agree that Lunar was one of the best meals and experiences we have ever had. I took my wife at the start of February after a recommendation from a colleague of mine and we have already been back twice since. From the moment we walked into the the restaurant, we were warmly greeted and the service experienced through the meal, each time, was exceptional. The variety of food on the menu caters for all dietary preferences but personally the sirloin and the turbot were stand alone favourites of ours and cooked to perfection. Has become one of out favourite dinner spots in the Midlands

Looking forward to the start of a gastro week taking in Gilpin and Moor Hall as well but this was a poor start as despite advance warning there was no bread alternative for my wife, the front of house went to trouble to discuss her food requirements but didn't offer suitable alternatives or one that was offered was still al dente when someone with her issues need well cooked veg. Even restaurants with no aspirations can russle up some gluten free bread from the freezer. My main was nice. Just not the start we hoped for. This won't be a problem for the rest of the week 😋

An unforgettable experience, a feast for the palate, warm atmosphere and excellent service, absolutely perfect, thank you Lunar👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Had a joint birthday meal. Excellent service, excellent food with a great cocktail bar - probably the best espresso martini I've ever had.

Atomosphere, food, service, all Michelin star standard. Book Lunar whilst you still can!

This was an amazing night the food was absolutely fantastic but the staff are 1st rate, they made the evening even better with their knowledge and excellent service which you would expect from a Michelin star team but it was also accompanied with a lovely friendliness which made you feel at ease.A totally wonderful experience
L. S. S.
If you want excellent service and something different in a very relaxed and unhurried atmosphere, I would recommend this place. But take your wallet. The table is yours for the evening.

Spectacular. We ate nearly everything on the menu tonight and loved every mouthful. Hugely inventive, flavourful and beautifully presented food and drinks in a wonderful setting. Add the friendly, knowledgeable front of house team and you've got an absolutely first class experience. Love it.

Had a fantastic evening at Lunar! What an amazing setting as soon as you walk in! The staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly and the food was insane! A real treat.
Will definitely be back again and recommending to others!

I was really looking forward to dining here for a belated birthday treat, however, we left disappointed. I appreciate it is a new restaurant but the menu was limited and the options for choice of meat from the fridge priced per 100g was confusing and lacked any description so we ended up ordering brisket for the main course, which was very tasty. The tasting plates were mainly seafood, scallops and languistine were enjoyable but the tartar was not great. There needs to be a full drinks menu, only wine and cocktail menu were available. Ambiance not what we expected, front staff very attentive but it didn't seem to fit. Wait for main course was far too long, desert was nice but may i suggest serving ice cream in seperate bowl or something, melted to fast on the tart tatan. May try again in the future if the menu changes.

Having read the mixed reviews, particularly regarding the service and waiting times, we were a little apprehensive before our arrival. There may have been issues when first opened, but we need not have worried, there's no problems there. The service was attentive and timely, without being intrusive, and there was not a particularly long wait between courses. The meal itself (salmon + mushroom starter, brisket main) was tasty and well-cooked, if rather thin on quantity. However, it has to be said that, everyone has an expectation of the quality and complexity of a meal, depending on the price paid. Unfortunately, while the food was perfectly ok, there was nothing "special", or especially difficult about it that would, in our opinion, justify the price. In the same vein, everyone knows that wine prices are inflated in restaurants, but £30 for a beaujolais might be thought excessive in anyone's language. We enjoyed the night, but....
R. G.
What can I say……. Absolutely outstanding in every possible way. Staff were all over everything all night I didn’t wait or want for anything . The restaurant itself was spacious, immaculate and relaxing…. The food was absolutely amazing even Niall was in the restaurant tonight in the kitchen… overall the i can honestly say the best restaurant in Staffordshire by far!!!!!
M. B.
Food was fantastic, however, the wait between courses was far too long and service was very poor. I realise this has complications with staffing (we also visited on its second day) but I can only review my personal experience. There is currently some disparity between FOH & BOH which unfortunately let this experience down. We sat at 7pm and finally got a dessert at around 9:30 which was completely unacceptable. I found myself wishing I was leaving long before we were finished which was a great shame. I can't fault the quality of the food, the brisket was particularly delicious. We felt forgotten about several times throughout the evening and looking around the restaurant there was a lot of tables and people doing nothing. At one point the entire section we were sat at had no food! My take away opinion is that it's not always about the food, it's early days for lunar, however, more must be done with front of house to show off the impressive food. It's strange that reviews have been removed from their facebook which would indicate it's had a rocky start - I imagine for similar reasons as the above. I'm willing to give LUNAR another go once the service finds its pace. Attention to detail is unnecessary here, get rid of the trays you bring the food out on and get meals sat down in front of diners. I watched one waiter start pouring a tables drinks half way through placing meals on a table, leaving one guest sitting there with no food wondering what this guy was doing....
It's too pricey for the current quality of service. I would also suggest changing the steak offering as creating a fixed price per 100g is very confusing to the local area. There's a reason the brisket was the most popular dish of the evening.... as this was a fixed price beef dish.

Wow what a fantastic experience we had at Lunar starting with front of house service, lovely setting and atmosphere, waiting on staff were excellent and the food was delicious. The butternut squash agnolotti was one of the best plates of food i’ve ever tasted. Can’t wait to visit again in the new year. Keep up the good work to all concerned. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Food was absolutely delicious, did not disappoint! This is my 5th GBM winners restaurant and I have to say I have never tasted anything so delicate and special as the braised radish and miso broth!! The turbot was divine! The cocktails were masterful, the burnt orange whiskey was my favourite. Hosting was warm friendly and knowledgable, the atmosphere was cosy and romantic, relaxing and chilled. The history was interesting in the building and the decor, strange how intimate you have made it feel! Will definitely be visiting again. Great for Staffordshire!
J. K.
Absolutely sublime. Birthday celebration as a party of 10. Food, atmosphere and service were all exceptional. Will definitely be returning.
