Reviews of Pant-y-Gwydr restaurant
M. G.
Brilliant meal and excellent service. Couldn't fault it at all! The dishes were authentic and cooked to perfection, the menu choices and wine list were excellent and the staff were very friendly. I would definitely recommend for a special occasion or a treat. We will be returning.
V. S. G.
Excellent quality genuine French food without a premium price. I was impressed with the customer service and the presentation in addition to every single dish had, which in turn is a mix of modern cuisine and classic inspirations.

10 years ago I first discovered this restaurant when I lived in Swansea and I loved it back then. I have since turned vegan. French cuisine is classically animal product heavy and the French vegan cuisine I have tasted (including a vegan French restaurant in Paris!) has been very forgettable. I was flabbergasted and so excited to see the addition of so many vegan options on the menu! The dishes was thoughtful and creative and I couldn't wait to try.
The menu exceeded all expectations...
A thoughtful amuse bouche celebrating the humble delicious tomato was aburst with flavour
The Millefeuille of vegetables with a prominent earthy spinach sauce and also tasted the gateau de courgette with gently layered ribbons of courgette atop a delicious filling with a rich tomato sauce.
For main I indulged in the couscous/vegetable tagine and vegan tofu croquettes - beautifully sculpted and flavoursome croquettes and the vegetables sung in the tagine bathed in an umami rich sauce and never did I think cous cous could be cooked so beautifully. A carafe of Beaujolais to hand to complement these vegetables beautifully.
The piece de resistance was indeed dessert - I was concerned that I would never be able to taste the trio that is the incredible, irresistible, mouthwatering and ingenious "la vanille" - however a vegan version appeared on the menu and my dreams came true! Whilst it is challenging to substitute eggs in dessert - this was the best vegan version of creme brulee I have ever tasted. And wow - the raspberry sorbet - I was in heaven! (Sadly I was so in the moment I forgot to snap a pic!)
I am speechless and booking my next meal as we speak eventhough I now live 4 hours away! Worth traversing the country for without a doubt! I appreciate so much your exploration and embrace of plant based food 🙏
This is the best dining out vegan experience I have EVER experienced! Book now!

What a stunning French restaurant. Staff were really friendly and attentive. The food was amazing...this was my first visit and we will definately be returning very soon.

Had a lovely meal this afternoon, beautiful food, well presented, decent size portions, tasted delicious. Decent disabled access with a wheelchair friendly toilet. Immaculately clean. Nice large tables, plenty of room I would highly recommend

Booked table early as we were going to the grand. Haven't been here for a few years but was again not disappointed. Service was excellent and the food ...wow. we were given a cheese and chive taster followed by mushroom starter which was delicious. My wife had fillet rossini and I had chicken breast both with triple fries. Desserts were a strawberry sponge with cream dish and the other was triple ice cream
Finished off with an espresso.
Fabulous start to the evening. We will return

Phenomenal.
For some reason I haven't made it to the Pant y Gwydr before. It is absolutely one one of the best restaurants in Swansea. I regret not coming here before.
Comfortably in the top five with Slice, the Beach House and Hanson at the a Chelsea.
Incredible, authentic french cuisine in a light an airy restaurant with a chatty atmosphere. The staff were friendly, courteous and professional.
All the food is cooked from fresh in house and it really shows in the quality of the food. The food was very reasonably priced as well.
I'm not sure why else to say but don't procrastinate and check out the Pant y Gwydr! I will absolutely be making a return visit!
G. M.
Although this restaurant has been opened for some years, this was our first visit. Service was spot on, food absolutely gorgeous - a very positive experience. Would definitely recommend.

The staff and food at the Pant-y-Gwydr restaurant is absolutely fabulous 👌 If you haven't been there, give it a go, you won't be dissapointed. The wine list is excellent, coffee to die for.
A. R.
Fantastic food great desserts
J. B.
Excellent food and service as always, be sure to book in advance as it's very busy. Make sure you save enough room for the coffee and desert as they are exceptional!
D. J.
Lovely atmosphere, friendly service and absolutely delicious food and wine!
J. W.
Good service. Beautiful food with spot on timings between starters and main course.
One of the best meals in Swansea in a quiet little corner of the city!
H. O.
Fabulous lunch. Food compares to that we have eaten in France
A. F.
Great food . Starter and desert up with the best iv had. Main course really good.
A. B.
What a gorgeous menu! We tried all of the vegan options between us and they were all outstanding, creative and fresh but with a rustic base that made everything feel so comforting! Lovely service by the lady who owns it, would highly recommend to anyone looking for wonderful food cook individually and supporting a small business.
You wouldn’t believe how high quality it is from being hidden away in it’s little house on the street! I can’t wait to come back 😊
M. D.
Amazing food, had the couscous and Le Chocolat desert. A really brilliant experience.

Absolutely Delicious food!! Boutique Restaurant. Need to reserve a table well in Advance!
W. O.
The food was amazing. Wine was never "served". First round of wine was just bottles left on the table; I would expect it to be poured for us at a high end establishment. Course timing was precise and meat temps spot on.
S. M.
Superb food, attentive and friendly service. We will be back!
C. S.
The best food in Swansea! Always perfection and such lovely staff! Highly recommend!!

Fabulous.
In Swansea for the weekend and decided to try.
What a find. Vastly underrated. The chefs presentation and attention to detail of every dish was outstanding and each and every dish was cooked to perfection and really superb. The front of house staff were attentive whilst remaining unobtrusive. Overall a fantastic evening.
A. B.
Absolutely beautiful food, attentive service, and a really lovely and cleanly presented restaurant. Highly recommended a visit to anyone with dietary requirements. A good selection of vegan dishes that far surpases the usual basic or bland options offered at restaurants. Each dish has the ingredients listed on the menu making informed choices easy. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal and all members of our party are looking forward to returning.
K. K.
Délicieux! Service was so efficient and food fabulous. I'm so grateful to Pant y Gwydr for catering so exceptionally well for nearly 30 people last night.
C. W.

C. T.
My favourite restaurant in Swansea with their perfection of detail in cooking and serving french cuisine. Lovely atmosphere and a very special place where I like to greedly keep to myself. lol

The Pant-y-Gwydr is a fabulous restaurant. Tucked away in quite an unassuming corner of Swansea, this restaurant is certainly one of the city's best.
When we arrived we were greeted with a warm welcome from a waiter and the front of house. The décor inside is nice, clean and simple, with a nod to the coastal location with a colourful mural and artsy black and white photos. We were greeted with an amuse bouche comprising a neat little warm pancake parcel of cream cheese and chives. They were served piping hot however and so burned a guests mouth. It was however delicious and a taste of the wonderful dishes to come.
The food on the menu looked lovely, however the sheet it was printed on needs an overhaul. It was congested and printed in Arial font, whilst surely, if it must be required, all of the allergy information could be on a separate sheet rather than on the main menu. Nevertheless, there was a beautiful selection and variety of dishes to choose from, as well as a large selection of good wines.
The starter of pan-fried scallops, broad beans, balsamic pearl caviar, olive oil was delightful. Perhaps the scallops didn't sing as much as in perhaps a more simple dish, however it was a generous size and the flavours were warming and subtle. A great tribute the seaside location.
The frogs legs with parsley, garlic, tomato, butter was equally lovely. Perhaps more of a punch is needed as part of a summer menu, but it was well presented and perfectly executed. The bread served with the starters was very good, though the butter straight from the fridge was hard and so difficult to spread. Overall a nice start to a meal.
The main courses looked equally appetising (despite their poor menu presentation). The Magret de canard (duck breast) was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented with neatly trimmed large asparagus, a rich fond de canard sauce, and flavourful dauphinois potatoes. The quality of the ingredients were certainly allowed to shine here and each mouthful was comforting and delicious in equal measure.
The sea bream with lentil parmentier and coriander sauce was also a very well put together main course. The portion of sea bream was generous and the presentation, though not terribly modern, was classic and without gimmicks.
And finally to dessert. The concept of the trio of deserts is novel and certainly shows off the pastry skills of the chef who creates them. We chose Le Caramel, comprising a quite exquisite chocolate and caramel fondant, lovely caramel ice-cream and crisp, and a caramel log. The fondant was clearly the star of the show and was so wonderful, left the log component seeming as surplus. It is probably worth a trip to the Pant-y-Gwydr just for the fondant!
Le Citron again was a great dessert with a cooling, palate cleansing sorbet with lemon decoration and a delicious cream of lemon and meringue component with candied lemon zest. This was certainly the star of the show, and if there can be any fault it would just be that it wasn't the size of the plate! The "demi-citron" with mascarpone and mint however was sadly not nice, and terribly sour. It seemed such a shame after such a brilliant sorbet and the most marvellous meringue.
Overall this is a great restaurant. At the end of our meal we felt that we had had a quite delicious meal (despite the chairs being strangely, a touch low which meant we were leaning forwards all evening - though like all of the minor points mentioned above, very fixable).
The highlights were definitely the main courses and our favourite pieces of the desserts - especially the fondant. If one ever does visit Swansea, they simply must visit the Pant-y-Gwydr restaurant.

This was the first time in five or six years since we had met with my sister and brother-in-law for a meal. What a pleasure it was to eat here at the Pant-y-Gwydr.
As ever, the range of food on the menu was excellent, with a wide range of French influenced dishes for all tastes. I was particularly impressed by their new range of vegan items on the menu. While none of us chose these items it is good to know they are available when vegan friends come for a visit.
My frog's legs were a delightful starter, full of rich and tangy flavours with the delicate taste of frog meat.
My main - Potée de lotte - was a wonderful combination of squid, monkfish and mussels in a wonderfully flavoured stock. The monkfish was the star of the dish, but the warming after taste was also a great delight.
I finished with a lovely selection of cheeses which, though normally served with biscuits was served with bread at my request.
The careful, attentive, service was an example of good practice, being there at the right time without any pressure.
The treat was compounded when my brother in Australia had arranged to pay for the four of us without us knowing until the end of the meal!!
R. P.
Food and wine were fantastic. Staff were friendly and attentive, nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely come again very soon. Thank you
C. H.
Really great all round experience, mussles where plentiful and delicious, veggy options in abundance (its why i picked here)
Great wine list, great service, great everything!
I was a little underdressed in a normal tshirt - but a guy had a polo shirt so it felt ok but in future suit jacket and t-shirt or shirt for me.
G. H.
Delicious food and lovely staff. Refreshingly unpretentious.
K. M.
I really enjoy this restaurant. The food is really tasty.
J. H.

R. W.
Beautiful meal, wonderful service. Always relaxed in the Pantygwydr with great food and wine.
R. B.
Can't really fault this delightful French Restaurant.
The food is of a high standard and the service is great too.
The only criticism that I could make is that on one of my many visits to the Pant-y-Gwydr, we were a party of 12. Whilst the service was good, the team appeared to struggle a little and failed to serve everyone's food together.
As a result, some of us were left in that awkward situation where you either politely wait for everyone's dish to arrive, inevitably resulting in your own food going cold, or apologising for your rudeness by starting without everyone else to ensure you enjoy your meal.
Whilst this is not the end of the world; I cannot help feeling a little uneasy as I am overly aware of other people looking at my meal in envy whilst waiting for a step by step report on every aspect of the dish.
Unfortunately this also resulted in us finding it a little difficult to re-order drinks as the staff were so busy.
E. W. H.
We ate from their excellent vegan menu and enjoyed the food very, very much.
Service was good and attentive.
They are doing a great job coping with the first week of opening under new covid guidelines.
S. J.
A real find, admittedly found by accident, but a genuine French restaurant. Run by a husband and wife team. Husband, the chef, clearly knows food. Starters and main courses were expertly seasoned to bring out taste. Very, very well presented, and the tastes were excellent. We ate 3 weeks ago in La Gavroch, and this, although simpler, was better. Doesn't need any more said.
Wine list very good and so reasonable.
Service, led by Le Patron's wife is exemplary. Friendly, warm and welcoming. All we can say is a pleasure to eat here.
Unusually, my wife, who is always very difficult to please, uniquely, was spoiled for choice.
A must and we certainly will be back.

What a lovely find...superb all round! We were looking for something special for our anniversary weekend and this place was recommended to us by a few people local to Swansea and so glad we went on the recommendations. Every course was delicious. We both had fish soup to start because we had it years ago in Marseilles and loved it then - a bit risky if it hadn’t been as good, but it was even better. I had the duck breast with wild mushroom sauce and my husband had the Tournedos Rossini - both cooked to perfection. Both our desserts were absolutely gorgeous - and pictures on plates! All the staff were delightful and it was a treat to see the professionalism and efficiency of the whole staff team throughout the evening. We’ll definitely come back - bringing friends!

This is still my favourite restaurant in the Swansea area. A couple others have come around recently that challenge the quality of the food and service, but nothing else at a 'fine dining' level strikes that balance between quality, accessibility and cost. Make sure you try their chocolate egg dessert at least once!
P. M.
Extremely high class food in a fantastic Swansea bistro restaurant, hooghly recommended
V. H.
French cuisine at its best. Never disappointed. Michelle is a perfect hostess. Thoroughly recommend a visit.
C. S.
We were taken there as a treat. It's not my usual kind of place. Granted, it's a hidden gem of a restaurant. If you like that sort of thing. To me, there was a hint of pretentiousness that put me off.
They had sold out of my first choice main course... At lunchtime...
The 'large' glass of wine was large... There just wasn't much wine in it.
The food was tasty enough, with desserts to die for. But I shan't be returning for to personal preference.
R. J.
Outstanding..a little hidden gem (the Toulouse sausage was amazing)!!!!!!
m. h.
quality rustic french restaurant, just like a traditional restaurant in a village in france, superb
A. P.
Great lunch, Fish Soup and a whole Dover Sole, cooked by an expert. Fab desert and wine. You know it's good when the lunch is superb. Will go again soon, wish I'd discovered it years ago! Best I've had in Wales for many a year
P. L.
I went there three times and I like the consistency in the excellent food and great service. If you go there keep some space for desert, outstanding..... Not very well known and in a quiet corner, this restaurant is in the top 3 in Swansea and certainly the best in the price/quality relationship.

I've only been on busy evenings, and the service is efficient and personal despite the rush. The food is well prepared and presented, but the choice of dishes is the real star. I highly recommend the pig's trotters!
