Reviews of Rake And Riddle
A. M.
Pleasantly surprised.
Walked in an had immediate "chain" vibes. TVs everywhere, table numbers, decor etc all screamed chain, however the food and service was very good.
The salmon and pie was high standard. The brownie for dessert was delicious. Loved that they were using local businesses also.
Definitely recommend.

Went with family and my mother's in a wheelchair. Access for wheelchair users is only in the restaurant downstairs and access through the main front entrance. Easy access and plenty of room at table. Quorn fajitas we're lovely 😍 staff were spot on too. Highly recommended 👌

Excellent food and even better service. We were a table of 11, all meals arrived approximately the same time everything cooked perfectly and very tasty. We had one slight issue which was solved immediately. Couldn’t ask for better customer service Thanks
S. E.
They were able to fit us in, without pre-booking. I would advise to phone and reserve a table.
We had Sunday Lunch. ..... Excellent really tasty and well worth the money.
Definitely going again.
The picture .. Chocolate and Orange Cheese cake and cream. (A*)

Popped in over a mid week lunchtime, this is a popular restaurant with freindly staff and good food. Burgers and baked potatoes looked to be very popular. Well worth visiting for a hearty meal.

Amazing place for families. Great park for children. So tidy and safe
Meals are so good.
Value for money
Which is becoming rare as places seem to be cutting back on what they serve in order to make more money instead of putting prices up.
Not here.
I have returned 2 further times since my first visit
T. N.
Food was cooked perfectly, had the sirloin and asked for medium rare and they couldn't have cooked it more perfect, rest of the food was great and plenty of flavour. My only disapproval was there was way too much food, but definitely worth it. Would absolutely recommend going there as there are a variety of different foods and is great for kids with a play area outside.

Food was outstanding! Myself and my partner had a streak each and they were perfectly cooked.the only thing that let the place down was the service. It was abysmal. Promptly taken to a table. Then waited 30 minutes to have out order taken. While 4 members of staff were stood around the bar doing nothing but talking and on their phones! The lady who served us was fantastic to be fair but it seemed she was the only one actually doing some work as she was running around like a blue arsed fly after everyone. I was extremely disappointed in the standard of service we received here today as they are normally pretty good. Its a shame really as it wasn't even busy enough for them to use that as an excuse. Won't be coming back for a while at least until they train their staff a little better or actually get some management out on the floor

This was our first visit this evening. We booked online and didn't realise there were 2 separate menus. Downstairs is lovely, great atmosphere and table service. Upstairs is like a sports bar, self service but again great atmosphere. We went upstairs as the menu offered ribs and pasta dishes. My wife had Chilli and I had the ribs. They were both outstanding, the ribs never seemed to end, home made sauce, home made chips and home made coleslaw. Everything was perfectly cooked, very tasty and we will definitely be going back. We caught glims of the build your own burgers being served on the next table and there was a definite moment of food envy. Highly recommended. Pics are from second visit!

I thought it would be a little bit more upscale - unfortunately food was just average with just ordinary. Service was very good. There is a very large parking which is ideal for larger groups
P. J.
What a joy to eat here. We gathered here for lunch and had various items from the menu which arrived quickly. The food was hot and delicious. Staff were polite and a credit to the premises. We will be holding our gatherings here in future. Can highly recommend.

I have serious dietary problems ( a long list of foods I can't digest) and it's very difficult for me to eat out. I was on holidays in the area and challenged myself to not cook for one night and eat out instead. We went to Rake and Riddle and surprisingly, they had a menu for people with gluten and dairy intolerance. I had lovely and tasty dinner and I was SO happy that they can't even imagine. Also, the gentleman who talked us through the menu was very friendly and understanding. The kitchen was closing but he made sure I would be able to eat.
I had a memorable holiday in Wales, everything was perfect and that dinner is certainly part of the happy moments I had there. Thank you so much!!!

A bit difficult to get in with my wheelchair because of a booking table in front of the door. Good food, not a long wait and followed covid safely measures.
Update July 22: visited again recently and it is still lovely. Food was delicious and the staff were lovely. I had lasagne which I highly recommend.
Update Oct 22: We went as a big group but were separated and it was very awkward. Some of us were cut off and felt like we were sitting in a corridor with staff going back and forth to the kitchens. We were told to go in through a door with a large step despite me being a wheelchair user. The chips weren't very nice and the meals came out in dribs and drabs. Some people were just getting their meals when others in the group had finished. Not sure this is the place to go if you're in a large group, they don't seem to handle it well.
M. G.
There was a limited menu. I ordered chicken tikka chips. The chips were well cooked and plentiful although my chicken pieces were very dry as if they had been cooked more than once. Disappointing food
A. D.
Had a meal at the Rake and Riddle with the family, fantastic service and food was gorgious, home made freshly cooked food, had the deep fried brie OMG it was delicious and so was the lasagne, portions very generous, all in all a great pub with friendly staff, will be visiting again. Would highly recommend going there for a meal. Dog and kid friendly and a very short drive or walk from the Caravan club site. I would give it more stars if I could.

We booked a table for 3 for 2pm on a Sunday. The Restaurant is down stairs and we were greeted with warm welcome and were taken to our table promptly. On Sunday, they only serve Sunday dinner, with a choice of 1-3 courses (£9.95-£15.95). The staff were attentive and friendly, took our orders on a tablet and we didn't have to wait long for our food. The food arrived hot and beautifully presented. There were more than one servers, to ensure fast service. The beef dinner comes with Yorkshire pudding, but if you ask, can add Yorkshire pudding to other choices as well.
Over all, all three of us were very satisfied with the food and service and would definitely come back again!

Very pleasant relaxed atmosphere helpfully staff always willing to help and answer any questions , food was fantastic and plenty of it , highly recommended

Positive: food was very good 4*. The only suggestion to cooking team is to use less condiments for main course as duck had to much salt on skin and cod to much crashed pepper. Personally I didn't mind but others in our party made this comment. 3 * unfortunately have been given due to customer service, appearance of staff and their actions. Started with rude response from a lady who just arrived to work. If you have a bad day don't take it on customers as you are in wrong job. Second comment which is more relevant to current situation is: Why to use face masks if you constantly touching yourr face to take it off and then put it back on? (This goes to all staff) and lastly table was booked for 12 and we only have 2h slot according to team members, however, even with some of the party being 15min late, orders have not been taken for another 40min. Courtesy check on starters have been done after we finished our course which I didn't see a point at this stage. You can also notice lack of communication between floor staff.
A. P.
First up, warning about the location, its right after a bend and if you blink you'll miss the turning to get into the car park. However the venue itself is lovely. keep homey and very welcoming. The play area i clean and was busy the entire time we were there. Looked like it could keep kids busy for hours. The menu is kept minimal, but that just so they can focus on doing what they do so well. The food was stunning. I had the bacon burger which was juicy and meaty. Everything had it's own flavour and was tasty. I went witha birthday party of 9 and everyone commented on how hot the food was and that it was full of flavour. This varied from the Lobster special of the day to the burger, the cod, scampi, and the gower chicken. It took a while for the mains dishes to be cleared, but then came desert. Not everyone had some but each was lovely. The hot chocolate fudge cake was very rich and moist, but i don't think it was worth the £4.95 price tag. The others that indulged in the Raspberry Pavlova though were not disappointed. The presentation was beautiful, a generous amount of cream supplied and they all tucked in and thoroughly enjoyed. All in all a great meal. Would i go that far out of my way for it....probably not, but if your in the area, definitely worth popping in.
J. S.
Even think was spot on, from friendliness, service, cleanliness and most of all the food was cooked spot on. Plus excellent value for money.
We had Vegetable Strudel with onion gravy.
Plus load's of veg a roasts
Fantastic

Great place!!
Pros:
Smart idea to mix the playground with tables so parents can sit and enjoy while still having an eye on the kids.
A lot of space, big parking.
Good food, fast service.
Cons: none
Constructive hospitality observation : Never go back empty hands!!
All waiters bringing food go back empty hands while tables are full of dishes/glasses. Will save you à lot of time and more customers will sit as a full dirty table is not appealing.
Overal, happy with the visit.
I. L.
If you got kids this place is the place to go. The outside play area has slides, swings big wooden ship on artificial grass and away from the car park. The staff are very friendly and polite. The food was excellent and good portion size. My stake was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend going to the Rake & Riddle
R. J.
Stunning food at the Rake and Riddle! All the staff were welcoming and friendly. I was recomended the soup of the day which i was so glad i did, so good in fact i forgot to get a photo!
We went for the Chicken Surpreme for the main, the photo really doesn’t do it justice. It was the nicest chicken dish i’ve had out in a very long time!
Family friendly, with a large play area and plenty of outdoor seating around it.
Highly recommended and we’ll be returning very soon!
L. D.
Lovely restaurant, rustic feel, inside and outside dining. Excellent service from friendly personnel. Great home cooked menu, local sourced food. Loved it
A. L.
Great food, plenty to choose from,a nice modern clean restaurant & staff were very nice👌🏻
L. L.
Pizza wasn't being served again. They said they said the oven was broken. This information should be widely published on their website. Pizza is their best meal as it's normally made on a pizza oven, the rest of the meals are okay but not as nice as the pizza. The rest of the meals aren't cheap.
Quite limited veggie and especially limited vegan options.
N. M.
Absolutely stunning food. Service was excellent and staff very pleasant
C. S.
Lovely food and friendly helpful staff. Plenty of room to eat outside in the heatwave. Also has a nice play area for the children.
P. B.
Kids took me here for my birthday, had been here before but upstairs and the menu does differ , restaurant quality food with good size portions..we all had 3.courses (6adults and 2 kids) and the bill was just shy of £200...not cheap, but , for the quality of the food it was well worth it...
R. G.
Very nice food! Whitebait was huge and plentiful. Mezze platter was beautiful. Burgers, both beef and the sweet potato and chick pea looked amazing! Beef burger was fantastic, sweet potato and chick pea was a little bland but the skin on chip shop style chips made up for it. Great range of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free food. And has a 5 star food hygiene rating. Service with a smile, very attentive and efficient. Also very clean and tidy. Will be coming back again.
L. D.
Lovely restaurant food good staff all excellent really polite food served quickly
K. R. B.
Great place good food, very good service by the staff totally enjoyed.

T. R. S.
Really nice place, I was recommended the Rake and Riddle by my auntie and uncle. Staff where very pleasant and the food was fantastic. Lovely setting cosy comfy and welcoming environment. Will be going back for sure.
S. V.
Lovely place to have food if you've got a young family as they got a playground on site.
P. M.
First time for me,and I really enjoyed there good food and pleasant staff there recommend it any one.Thanks.
M. J.
Sunday dinner, plenty of everything. Very tasty. Will certainly be dining here again
C. J.
A lovely place, staff are nice and friendly meal was delicious
D. C.
Myself and my partner visited in May Bank Holiday weekend and we both liked this place and staff were helpful and friendly and would definitely go back again if in the area again
P. P.
Really nice pub with good food. The Gower Lamb burger was delicious with a nice combination of flavours, and a good selection of local beers from the Gower Brewery. Also has a large outdoor seating area and lots of outdoor tables under cover too. Visited on a warm Saturday afternoon but service was quick and professional, and definitely worth a visit when in the area!
g. 3.
Came for lunch, not many people in. Food was tasty and well cooked.
D. W.
Only had drinks today. My two sons had a pizza and a burger meal. They both loved it. Great place for families as there is a huge beer garden with plenty of climbing frames. Great choice of locally brewed Gower Beers or mainstream brands. Highly recommended.

6 of us went tonight for Mother's Day, 4 adults, a teen and a 7yr old. We were upstairs in the bar, it was v busy and I asked if we could possibly be moved from a high table with stools as my mother in law was struggling as she's tiny (and old) and it was no problem for them, we only waited a short time and the lovely man who was finding us a table apologised for the wait.
When we sat down 2 of us asked if they could have the Sunday lunch, which is served downstairs. Again it was checked and the same man was so helpful and it was no problem.
All the staff were so friendly and helpful. Everyone enjoyed their food, apparently the Sunday dinners were delicious, the vegan choice was fab, chicken curry, ribs, kids chicken coupons, everyone really enjoyed.
Thank you so much for a lovely day, we'll be back soon.
P. W.
Truly superb.Great play area for kids.covered area out of the sun for us follicly challenged.good selection of starters and mains.Could not consider dessert.
Not inexpensive when drinks added on but visit and decide for yourself
A. G.
Loved it, great Welsh hospitality and a cracking game of Lions Test Rugby. Food was good and beer 👌
S. E.
Taken out for snack by daughter and son-in-law. Had loaded fries, which were really delicious.
J. R.
Good food, very well organised dog friendly in certain areas. Would highly recommend a visit
N. S.
This was our second visit and of course the best. We had Steak for the main and was very impressed with the quality of food and service. The order was checked back and we were very content with the meal and service from Lisa working the bar. Since our previous visit our feedback was received and turned around today. Thanks to the GM - Mike for his assistance for inviting us back to the Rake and Riddle. Wish you all the best and thanks again! Without a shadow of doubt we will return.
C. B.
Visited here for the first time last weekend. Stunning food and great friendly service. We had the garlic prawns and deep fried Brie for starters, both of which were lovely and Steak for main. We will be back for sure
T. J.
Food was amazing downstairs, and the staff were so friendly would highly recommend it!!!
A. P.
The standard and quality of food is unbelievable based on the price! Such good value for money! We had the lunch menu think it was £12 or £15 for 2 courses which were stunning, plenty of food and like I said really high quality not your standard pub food. But you still get the relaxed pub family friendly vibe. Worth every penny!
K. Y.
We've always had lovely food here, especially Sunday lunch, but last Saturday's meal was exceptional.
The whitebait starter was a huge portion, crisp and delicious then our mains of pan fried duck and lamb chops were both amazing. Tasted stunning and presented like a 5 star restaurant. The staff were outstanding as well. We will definitely visit more often.
R. S.
Fantastic food, amazing place and ace staff :)
G. N.
Had a fantastic day here. Very cosy and of course the chef knows what they are doing
S. J.
We went on a quiet Monday lunchtime and had a lovely lunch. Food is delicious and portions are good. I forgot how the acoustics in the restaurant amplify every little sound, so the loud conversations with my hard of hearing in-laws was multiplied by 10🤭 The service was great and, as our waitress seemed to be the only one working, she was constantly on the move, but with a happy face behind her mask.
B. D.
Service is great and staff friendly, I had the curry which said medium spiced but it was bland unfortunately. Have had Sunday lunch here which was lovely so a little disappointed with the food this time
K. C.
Excellent always a pleasure to visit,love the restaurant,brilliant staff,menu gorgeous.May l just add
Our visit on Valentines day Friday was lovely as always
But l am afraid to say l was rather disappointed
We had booked through the in-house manager who failed to tell us that the Valentines day menu only applied after 6 pm that evening
We were really looking forward to it and when we got told this after having our drinks delivered then waiting a while before another waitress appeared to take our order,it all ended up being a bit disappointing
It was a special Valentines day for my husband and l too
My husband was able to have the seabass which he enjoyed and my pate off the special board was really lovely but if we had known beforehand we would have perhaps booked for the evening
I believe the waitress who took over our table was the owners mother and we are grateful to her for putting us right
But our meal was then delayed while we had to change our minds which was all a bit of a shame
It was lovely but a bit of a disappointment
Thankyou
To add to this post. It was lovely to go back once again to the Rake and Riddle for Harvest supper, lovely food lovely company and nice young men behind the bar who were very professional and kind and helpful.
But it was a shame that we waited over an hour for our meals to arrive and one table was still waiting while we were being served. But the meal was lovely, roast dinner with all the trimmings, very very nice.
A. P.
40th celebrations today, excellent service and food was outstanding 5* highly recommended
W. B.
Not good today, burger full of grease, which made the bun soggy, waitress was told, her reply was sorry about that and disappeared. On a good point my 5 year old loved the play area.
J. C.
Ate here, in the restaurant part, on Thursday evening and the food was amazing. Full of flavour and well cooked. We had the meat platter from the specials board, mushroom gnocchi and pizza. All were delicious. There is a large car park but this was full when we arrived at 7pm - a clear sign how popular this place is. Would definitely recommend 👌
g. b.
Very nice pub reasonably priced food with a very good menu. Nice surroundings with lots of parking
J. C.
Recommend the Asian twist burger
S. B.
I did have 3 stars but felt i needed to update. We have been back and the service is excellent and the food i feel has improved a lot. The pizzas are amazing and so are the loaded fries.
d. b.
Lovely meal it wasn't that busy so service was pretty good
d. p.
Visited the Rake and Riddle for Sunday lunch. Could not fault the meal or the service and at £16.95 for 3 courses it was good value. The braised lamb was melt in your mouth delicious and the prawn starter cocktail very generous and well presented....would certainly go again next time maybe for something in the upstairs restaurant which serves a comprehensive menu.....Good place to eat and nice atmosphere.
J. R.
Excellent customer service outstanding food will definitely return
c. s.
I've eaten here with family many times, the food is amazing proper home cooked like it should be.
The staff are all friendly as is the service hence the 5 stars. I would recommend this establishment for a quick lunch or special meal.
D. R.
Kids loved the beer garden it's amazing but food could of been better 🤢
Burnt chicken on the kids menu. Not good. McDonald's on way home sadly.
E. D.
Just had food whilst sitting in the play area so my niece could play. Such a lovely atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was amazing! Will definitely be visiting again soon.
Thank you!
S. S.
I went with friends for lunch which we ate in the covered outside area. This was a bit of a wind tunnel, but not unpleasantly so. Everyone said their food was very nice, and we didn't have to wait that long for it. There is plenty of parking, although the car park exit is not that easy to spot!
J. B.
Excellent food very friendly fast service highly recommended. Lamb from the specials board.
A. W.
Excellent Restaurant with great food. Friendly staff and it has one of the best beer gardens I've visited. Can't wait to revisit.
G.
Lovely family friendly atmosphere, clean and plenty of seating.
L. S.
We are travelling in a motorhome and they allowed us to stay in their car park after a meal. Excellent food and friendly service. A large well equipped childrens play area. A great surprise,as google maps show it as a Chinese restaurant, this was 3 years ago. Now it has been fully refurbished, a great place to stop
w. s.
Great evening with friends, staff very friendly. Food was lovely again. The home made Steak pie was delicious and reasonably priced. Marquee great addition, was a bit cold closer to the bar as no heating in that area and the door opening so often.
Gin Drinks quite expensive for a single, A lovely place to be, even better in the summer.
T. R.
Modern interiors, busy menu, staff were friendly but not very efficient. Food was nice!
L. K.
One of the busiest places we have visited in Wales but they coped very well. Good food, good service, good drinks.
A. J.
Good food
Brilliant service
Went with wide range of ages for a birthday celebration. Couldn't have chosen a better venue.
Thank you
L. H.
Very welcoming pub, lovely staff and nice relaxing atmosphere. Beautiful meal with friends, too busy talking and forgot to take photos! Great children's play area and outdoor seating, huge carpark. Highly recommended.
L. E.
Had an epileptic fit there last night and the staff were very helpful and lovely. They made sure that myself and my fiance were OK. They waited with us until the ambulance came myself and my fiance are so grateful to all the staff at the rake and riddle. Thank you all so much ❤ xx.
P. K.
Very busy. Good food. Expensive bottle of wine.
J. M.
Disappointed with our visit here on Sunday evening, incredibly slow taking our order and a very long wait for the food to be served, several orders were wrong and one person in our group waited about 40 minutes longer for their food to be served, such a shame as in the past we've enjoyed going here
a. c.
Just called of the off chance as we visiting the area, absolutely fantastic, the hunters chicken best I've had everything cooked perfectly. Husband had gammon. Staff very friendly and service excellent faultless we will come back. Sorry no photos
D. A.
Booked table for birthday, had lovely meal. Friendly service. Reasonable wait cinsidering there were a lot of people there. Would definately visit again
B. M.
Very reliable pub for a bar meal. Refurbished to a high standard a couple of years ago, good selection of beers and food always good.
Staff all really helpful and polite.
They've made a fantastic effort with their outside facilities during the Covid-19 restrictions, tables well spaced and plenty under cover. Feels very safe there. Their app works well for ordering, although when it fell over today the staff stepped in very efficiently.
I. D.
Excellent service, clean and the food is lovely with good portions 🙂
B. P.
What a place this is. It's fairly local to me but I know people living about 45 mins away who happily make the journey down. A lovely location, suitable for kids and if you don't want to have kids around you, never fear, it's not like a soft play chaos type thing. You won't be surrounded by screaming kids. The park is great. It's close enough for kiddies to be safe but not close enough to disturb a quiet meal. It's just an all round lovely place. The food is lovely and definitely worth a visit. You go to the Gower and visit some amazing places and then stop off for a lovely meal at the end of it. I can't fault it
M. J. H. (.
Lovely place. Plenty of room and gorgeous food. Recommended.
A. D.
Great food, generous portions and well presented. Staff are great too making for a great overall experience
C. T.
Excellent, reasonable food. Friendly, helpful staff, especially Pedro.
K. M.
Brilliant food I definitely recommend here!
T. Y.
We booked a table for 10 on a Sunday evening and even though it was very busy we were seated promptly and the service was excellent. The atmosphere is welcoming and staff are polite and friendly. Our orders were taken and food arrived quickly considering how busy it was! The food was nicely cooked and really hot. We went there for a birthday meal and we were allowed to bring our own cake and the waitress brought it out with a sparkler in it which was a nice touch. All in all everyone enjoyed the experience and will certainly be coming back soon!!!
M. 0.
Had the lunch time festive menu , soup starter which was luke warm, the dinner had no green veg ie peas & sprouts are a must @ Xmas. 🤭 Was a little disappointed as the standards are normally very good.
J. D.
Had a lovely starter of deep fried cockles, followed by a tasty rump steak main course. Good value for money too. Helpful, friendly staff.
J. A.
Excellent table service and value for money meal in a busy and bubbly atmosphere. Very good local cask beers served. Food was well presented and surroundings were contemporary but not over the top. As visitor's to the area we thoroughly enjoyed our meal here tonight.
Car park is large - and needs to be!
Recommend this restaurant / Inn to anyone.
S. D.
Refurbished this year, a lovely traditional pub with food done really well. Staff are efficient and approachable. Although we thought we would not get a table for the amount of cars parked behind the pub we found a table easily and there was no wait. Food was well cooked and timely. Delicious in fact. We dined upstairs which leads to the back of the pub and the best play area around. Nice atmosphere and not noisy or annoying even with the football on. Each floor is sectioned into smaller rooms which adds to reduce nose and give a nice atmosphere. Can't think of anything negative. Money well spent.
J. B.
Lovely environment food homemade and cooked to order. There was a wait for the food but when it arrived we could see why. Not a chain pumping out frozen cooked food but hand cut chips, proper burger etc. Friendly staff and as our first visit as a fact finding visit to see if we could bring elderly parents and wider family the waitress answered my queries. The free soft play for children away from the restaurant was a bonus but freezing in the marquee.
D. H.
Absolutely lush, lovely location and great food
K. B.
What a lovely restaurant! Excellent service and the best vegetarian curry I've ever had. Staff so pleasant, will definitely be going back again soon.
n.
Beetroot carpaccio was delicious! Main of duck was delightful and service was great!
k. w.
We chose the Rake and Riddle for a ladies catch up evening, everywhere was immaculate and clean, because of covid we had table service, we didn't need to get up once! The food looked and was superb, we had dessert too "heavenly"... The staff that evening were extremely pleasant and efficient. Such a lovely place with excellent service hence a 5* review.
Thank you
K. W.
All the family met up for my nephews 21st there was 24 of us so we thought ordering food would be a challenge but they did not disappoint all our food came out together and it was delicious all happy and a fab play area for little ones a great family friendly pub and will be back. A great choice on food menu and drinks menu. Well done to all the staff .
H. D.
A few friends and I went for a birthday meal and the staff were kind enough to let us decorate the table. The food was delicious (I had Gower chicken) and the portions are very generous. Lovely atmosphere downstairs (although upstairs is a different restaurant I think)
K. L.
Lovely looking place, good service, great food.. will return.
m. b.
Lovely food, went out of the way to make something off menu, other meals really hot. The staff were very welcoming, good prices.
G. E. A.
We've been here a few times and always love it. We've been today and the service has been second to none. However today the food was awesome. The dessert I had was a Raspberry Parfait Pavlova. Oh my God it was delicious. I think I'll have to make another visit soon. The place was heavily booked on a Sunday. So plan in advance, but it will be worth it!

Usually the food is pretty good but a recent experience was not as good. I did enjoy my meal but my friend found the food very bland. I did tell the waitress our feedback and we were offered a free desert and a drink which made up for the meal. Staff are always really pleasant and we are not put off from going again. Not usually one to complain but complaint dealt with well, good customer service! 👏

This is a fantastic bar/restaurant. The place is set up for families with a fantastic outside play area, the food was great, simple pub grub at a reasonable price, there was one area dedicated to sports - which is where we ate, but if this isn't your thing that's not a problem as there are non-sport areas to eat too. There was a decent selection of real ale and ciders but I was slightly disappointed with the choice of Lagers on Tap, but that is the only (small) negative I can note. Will definitely return.
G. S.
Best meal of our holiday. So good we're going again. Modern menu, lovely local ale (Gower brewery), pleasant staff. Managing the covid situation well. Recommended
L. M.
Excellent service friendly staff meal was delicious big portions very enjoyable will return felt safe in the current covid scene
E. P.
Excellent. Its obviously very well managed. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was lively but relaxed and the happy, helpful service was superb. After our meal I had to find a manager to tell them how good it was and how great the waitress was. Good work, we will recommend and be back😁👍
T. M.
What a lovely place sat in the downstairs restaurant part excellent friendly service with good atmosphere food was amazing had the fillett steak with garlic prawns which was on the special board I do think this should be on the main menu was absolutely stunning as I would want this again overall lovely evening highly recommended
J. B.
We were very lucky to get a table on the second sitting on quite a late booking on Mother's Day!
Although the restaurant was extremely busy, our meals and service was first class!
The staff were stretched to the limit but still managed to keep everyone happy!
Well done!
R. J.
Well worth a visit
Beautiful lunch
Very tasty food
J. D.
Good service, average food. The chips were awful, resemble and taste like stale fish and chip shop chips. Would try again but definitely avoid having the chips. The steak pie is just a pie crust on top of steak and gravy in a bowl so not a proper pie.

Went for an early evening meal with family, 2 kids. Great beer garden with play equipment for children up to 12 years. Clean and tidy throughout, the food was really nice and reasonably priced, good sized portions and good service. Waiting around 20 mins for food so spot on and they were quite busy at the time. Huge carpark and plenty of outside tables with that all important NO Smoking in place. Definitely keep the no smoking going, it would be dreadful if dirty smokers started ruining things like they always do. Well done to the management here, a great place and will return in the future. 5 stars all round.
J. G.
First visit food was really nice, big portions at good prices, very happy will visit again.
N. T.
First time to visit here. Was surprised how big it was. Took my grandson who loved the play area. I had steak for my meal which was ok. The staff where really friendly and helpful. Location is spot on. Reasonably priced both food and beer.
Overall it's a great place to visit.
L. W.
Beautiful meal here last night, service was great and food was delicious, however I ordered a side portion of saute mushrooms to receive TINNED mushrooms coated with garlic sauce. This is a no no. The meal would have been a 10 before the plastic mushrooms arrived. I love my mushrooms and this was a huge disappointment.
j. w.
Good service good food play area good had a fab afternoon lovely friendly staff 😀 x
B. K.
Staff super friendly, could not do enough to help and the food was amazing. Massive portions and superbly cooked. Was highly recommended to us and shall be recommending ourselves. Cant wait to come back
J. W.
We've just been to the rake and riddle for the second time and have now had both sunday lunch and the main menu. Definitely recommend. The staff are fantastic and food quality is excellent. I'm vegetarian but also lactose intolerant so usually try vegan options, there were plenty of options to choose from. The vegan 'duck' rolls were tasty and really filling. My (usually meat eating) husband tried and loved the veggie burger. The place is nicely decorated, service is quick, the kids play area is fab and there's plenty of parking. We'll definitely go back again
S. H.
Good quality food and plenty of it, but expensive especially soft drinks. What really lets it down was the service I had almost finished my main course and others had not even been served and then at dessert I had finished mine and so had most of the others and my Granddaughter was still waiting for her Ice cream.
K. J.
A bit hit and miss with the food. Excellent Gower burger and calzone. Reasonable gammon. Regular chips are very cheap frozen catering bulk buy. COVID precautions are to be commended.
P. K.
Efficient service. Lovely food. Good selection of beers. Good value. Plenty of parking. Lots of covered outside space. Plenty of indoor seating. Easy app ordering system. Felt covid safe.
S. W.
Asked for 2 baby seats, they didn't give them to us after asking 3 times, asked for a straw with our drink and they just ignored us. Food is amazing, service needs improving.
A. F.
Stopped for a quick drink, huge place, great play area for kids outside, bit disapointing though as the real ale was off!
a. d.
A great place to enjoy a meal and a pint with the family, food is excellent, and Gower brewery has excellent Beers
S. D.
Had a lovely time watching the Rugby. Free food half time great atmosphere. Been for food many occasions always lovely. Great place in Summer outside for children and outside dining. Love it there. Xx
L. R.
The staff are very polite and friendly ,we were in the restaurant area so it was nice and cool there and the food was outstanding I had the pork tenderloin which I would have again and again very nice
J. L.
10 out of 10 for the staff and the chef with the request of just a plain tuna and mushroom pizza they were more than happy to do it food was really tasty will be returning big thank you to the chef.
S. L.
First time visiting here but certainly not the last. Plenty of choice for everyone's taste. Food was beautifully presented and was delicious. Staff were friendly and attentive and there was a lovely atmosphere. We called on a week night and it was quite busy so don't know what it would be like on a weekend, will have to try it.
E. R.
The food was excellent, couldn't fault it, but table service was appaling, we ordered at the bar, 4 starters and 6 main meals, our starters turned up in a reasonable time, 4 of our main meals were then delivered but we had almost finished eating by the time the final 2 meals came, after we asked the Manager for them, we then ordered dessert, when they arrived our main meal plates had not been cleared and the waiter just left them on the table, I think your younger members of staff could do with some training
m. a.
We picked this venue for my wife’s 40th birthday meal, when we arrived the covid measures were good, a bit over the top but good, we were told we had 2 hrs at our table which was fine, however every time we ordered a drink
On the app we waiting 15-20mins each time and then we had to chase the waitresses to see where they were, we were given 2 dirty glasses after complaining the 1st one was dirty. gave up in the end thinking it’s too much hassle and taking to long, our meal took 1hr 10min to arrive after asking several waitresses what’s happening. People were turning up after us and eating 1st. Taking us well over the 2hrs table allocation. In fairness they are all running around like headless chickens we must of been asked about 50 times is the food they were carrying, was ours. It was just chaos. It’s obviously down to the measures in place. We will return as it’s always been a place to eat for us, because the food was good, but when the measures are lifted or relaxed a bit.
K. R.
Had Sunday dinner with Fred's food ok
G. C.
Amazing pizza, good beer, lots of outdoor seating including covered areas in case of rain, play area for kids.
D. B.
Absolutely the very best. Great food, amazing service, perfect. We went for my 60 ish Birthday in January. We are so impressed Best Birthday ever. Proper portions of exquisite food served by the best. Thank you so much Rake and Riddle. We will be back very soon.
C. O.
Perfect location. Fantastic place if you have kids of 4yrs old. you can eat outside and watch them play safely. All the staff were really great and friendly. I had the Gourmet burger. As we had a 4 yr old and 8 month old with us we didnt have the time or care to check our food. Burger arrived thick as a phonebook and v tastey...no cheese...no onion rings...no chutney as described in menu. Only realized this when i got home. Gower chicken was bland not cheesey as described in menu. Got to hand it to the staff though they were all great. If you have ever watched money heist on Netflix look out for the professor.
D. A.
Sunday roast was stunning and came very quickly to the table. Young but very friendly and courteous staff. The venue is itself is stunning clearly a lot of work has gone into making it what it is.
O. B.
Great tasting food but served on a plank of wood keep it simple please. Staff friendly and place clean. Kids play area unsafe from broken glass as someone had tipped table and glasses broke Cleared up fast but still bits of glass being left.
C. T.
Food was lovely. Raspberry Parfait Pavlova is to die for!
M. R.
Generous portions and reasonably priced. None of our group could manage desert, so we'll fed were we
M.
We were really glad to find a pub that had thought out their covid measures really well and also accommodated eating in the bad weather. Our meals were also very tasty with generous portions.
d.
disappointed in the service, food wasn't great well over rated. was quiet only 10 tables full. slow taking our order, forgot the sauce with the meal, didn't ask how our meal was, never asked us if we wanted another drink which we did, sat there for some time hoping they would take our empty plates away but never did, in the end after waiting 20 mins we got up and paid at the bar, the mixed grill we had was slightly over cooked and tough meat. shame really. so many people said it was a great place.
m. b.
The Rake and Riddle has just reopened.
It was a very positive experience from my point of view, making me feel safe due to the protocol put in place by the owners and the well drilled staff, who were exemplary.
The food and excellent Gower brewery ales were fresh, well prepared and very tasty and also very filling as the portion sizes of the food was more than ample.
Thank you Rake and Riddle for my first pub restaurant experience since lockdown.
We wish you all the best in this new era.
I've booked for lunch time tomorrow.
Can't fault it!
A. l.
We've stayed along the road at Gowerton Caravan Club a couple of times now and only saw this place as we drove by earlier and decided we'd come for dinner this evening.
What a lovely place to eat!
Our waiter was Kerry and he made us feel welcome right from the off! He was polite, friendly and attentive throughout our evening here.
All the staff that we spoke with, were friendly and polite.
The food was awesome and my wife said, it was one of the best meals she'd eaten out in a very long time.
We were both incredibly impressed with this place and would highly recommend!
Kerry, good luck in your new position at the Gelato eatery.
Regards
Adsm & Deb
R. B.
Great place with great food. Really friendly staff. Well worth a visit.
L. R.
Nice place. Food is tasty at either restaurant or bar and grill. Has a play area for the kids. Been here a few times.
M. E.
Absolutely amazing. Best local place for food by far😍
G. S.
Lovely environment, friendly staff, very poor vegan offer. The majority of the stuff on the menu could be easily tweaked with a vegan twist, as it was I was left with practically one choice for each course.
W. a.
On a Tuesday lunch time there's not too many places that are busy, the rake and riddle is one. Plenty of parking available, the restaurant has an open friendly feel to it, the food is fantastic and well presented, service is friendly but a bit leisurely. Special note about the coffee, it's a bowl, so many places give you a tiny coffee that just flavours your mouth, this is a cup of coffee. We enjoyed and will be going back.
J. R.
Lovely meal and Jane the waitress could not help us enough. She was a credit to the restaurant and I made sure her manager was aware at the end of the evening. We will definitely be back again.
L. B.
Chris and Emily have done it again. We had a wonderful welcome and they found us a table even though they were full. Food was great, staff
are so attentive and polite. Wonderful atmosphere. Totally fantastic. We are going again tonight. They really care that their customers are happy.
T. S.
Well managed social distancing. Kids portions were about the same as the adults meals. Adults meals didn't feel value for money but everything was nice
S. L.
Nice surroundings to sit and eat from a good menu selection and a specials board. Can recommend the Gower lamb and mint pie which was full of flavour and lean meat and a rich gravy. My friend tried the chicken and bacon lasagne which was also very good.
Definitely need to book on a weekend
L. F.
One of the Gower's best restaurants without doubt. The settings are great and the chef certainly knows how to cook. Great food and waiter service from the whole team! Highly recommended!
m. t.
Excellent food, however we felt service little below expected standard. Changed booking to larger party and were told we could change but would need to vacate table by a certain time - no problem but staff took so long to take drink orders after we were seated we felt unnesessarily rushed towards the end of our visit.
A. “. B.
Lovely food, good service and a family friendly atmosphere. Recommend if in the area
C. T.
My friend and i have just left the Rake and Riddle after having had a cockle pot each for our lunch. This is on the "starters" menu but with a side salad and bread is excellent value, very substantial and delicious. The staff are very friendly and i would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to anyone who's looking for somewhere to eat, drink and be merry!
N. T.
Staff are lovely and friendly and i have only been here once, I'm sure nothing will ever change. The food was delicious and plentiful. We'll worth a visit if you are that way.
M. D.
Excellent service with food to match.
R. P.
Visited twice whilst on our holiday and both times the food and service was exellent. Tonight I had the steak and ale pie which I chose as couldnt make up my mind and you can never go wrong with a steak and ale pie can you? Well if Carlesburg made steak and ale pie then this was it. It was the best I have ever had at a resturant and dont get me started on the gravy !! My compliments to the chef and all the serving staff. Thankyou .
D. W.
One of the better places that I have eaten in the food was piping hot and the steak and ale pie was probably the best pie I have ever eaten. I will definitely return there to eat again. If you're in the area be certain to give it a try.
M. M.
Great service. Nice food but limited menu and the tables outside were dirty and the entrance looked messy and unwelcoming at bat area.
H. P.
Fantastic place - lots of space in the restaurant, sports bar and outside kids' play area. Great menu and every dish we had was lovely. Staff friendly too.
C. W.
The Rake and Riddle is a Fantastic Restaurant to go for food, a few drinks or Both. It Also has a children's play area. The food is Amazing everytime I've been with my Wife, Family and Friends. The Staff are Very Friendly and Approachable. Also has Car Park off the Main road. The Rake and Riddle also do special offers or deals with food or drinks. Also they have entertainment here most Weekends.
L. G.
Lovely food and nothing too much trouble for our waitress.
Busy friday evening but no wait for food. Cocklepot starter was delicious,as was gammon main. Great park outside for children. We will definately return!
L. H. D.
Absolutely fantastic. Great beer, great food, great staff. The fenced in play area out the back means parents with young kids (like me) get some respite too. And they absolutely love it.
S. D.
Cockles always a firm favorite. Followed by the Lamb Burger with brie, cranberry & chili dressing gorgeous. Sat in the sun. Xx
N. S.
Nice little gastro pub, food is great and there's a wide selection of drinks available at the bar, including local Gower Brewery ales. Service was quick and the decor is rustic but clean and pleasant.
C.
Very impressive menu, food was delicious I had the steak and ale pie which was great some lovely bits of steak in there and such nice flavour, the service is always great here to and the chips are to die for.
A. K.
Highly recommended lovely place great atmosphere beautiful food and excellent service good value for money 5star👍
T. T.
Not a Chinese any more. Pizza, Cajun chicken burger, scampi all really enjoyed by our party, lasagne not quite so good on this occasion. Various beers served including Gower beers.
Recently refurbished. Outside seats, children's play area. One of the nicer meals you will have at a place where you order at the bar with your table number. Pizza £10, burgers £7.25. Recommended
J. J.
very helpfull staff as we had a large party. lovely food at a fair price
J. K. P.
Great place to eat. The staff were happy amd attentive and the food was tasty.
J. “. G.
The best place to go for not only quality food but really pleasant and happy staff, checking to see if you have everything you need and nothing is too much bother for them.
Like I said the food is top notch and great place for the kids with the enclosed play area and benches/tables for the parents to chill in the sun and have a good beer....or two! 😏
S. P.
Great meal, friendly staff and reasonable price. Will return
D. H.
This place is brilliant, eaten here 3 times in recent months. Family friendly and food is great.
M. E.
Had a lovely meal, pleasant staff and a great atmosphere. Quite a busy pub come restaurant so if you are a crowd make sure you book in advance, fantastic play area for the kids
M. T.
Lovely place to eat. Tasty food, good choice on the menu and reasonable prices. Only downside is that lots of other people agree with me and it can get very busy with long queues at the bar!😂
R. G.
Great competitively priced menu and always a warm welcome for tourists and the community locals. Booking will be necessary, such is the popularity of this family business. A visit to the family's other business for crêpes and ice cream is also a must: Gower Gelato in Penclawdd.
L. T.
Friendly and helpful staff in a lively setting. Fast service of good food from a varied menu.
J. W.
Just had an excellent Sunday Lunch. Service was quick and friendly. Food was excellent. Very good value for money. An excellent family pub. Thoroughly recommend!
G. D.
Just drove past and liked the look and called in. What a lovely surprise. We had two nice glasses of wine and two starters and a nibble and it was all first class. It's always great to be in an area that is renowned for a product and someone takes the time and effort to make this available.
Penclawdd is famous for its cockles and we had two dishes to taste them. One of these had the traditional Welsh theme with bacon and laverbread.
This is not a gourmet type place but easy, good down to earth comfort type food and very reasonable at that.
I just wish it was nearer to my home.
Well done to the owners and staff.
C. N.
Had fantastic service here.. we needed a table for 6 wasn't one available but a member of staff spoke to the manager who, despite being extremely busy, came to see us and put tables together for us. The device stayed fantastic throughout our stay. Excellent!!!
S. S.
Excellent service and the food was fantastic all set in fabulous surroundings
D. H.
Great playpark for kids, food is good but the menu is a little limited. Don't order the vegan Duck. My wife ordered it, she isn't a vegan but fancied trying it. She kept a brave face but....
P. P.
Attended a family funeral, lovely staff, clean , well stocked. I would visit here for a meal.
L. R.
Good food nice atmosphere reasonable price would go again
M. D.
Beautiful food as always. Great choice for Mother's day
N. J.
The Rake and Riddle offered pretty standard pub fare. While there was nothing wrong with what we had there, there are much better pubs to visit elsewhere on the Gower.
J. T.
Food was delicious, staff were great, would definately recommend and will be coming back
J. M.
Amazing food, at a reasonable price and fabulous service and staff. I go as often as I can 😊
R. J.
Great food great service manager came round to see if the food and interacting with customers.
K. N.
Good food and service was quick felt like a number but staff were friendly typical pub grub
S. S.
Very busy - a good sign. Food very good, well presented. Very friendly service but when it's busy some things might get forgotten - jug of water didn't arrive until we had nearly finished eating. To be revommended though!
A. G.
The Rake and Riddles food especially Sunday lunch was amazing but you need to book in advance as they can be very busy
S. P.
Brilliant food in the main restaurant excellent choice of meals, something for everyone. Really enjoyed the meal and atmosphere staff were brilliant. Would definitely return a.s.a.p.

W. a. C. J.
Went to the Rake and Riddle for our anniversary meal. Staff friendly and attentive. Food a little over priced but very nice. The cockle pot and mezze delicious would recommend.
B. W.
Great for menu for children, good beer for adults & a marvellous effort in early post lockdown, when only outside seating allowed.
K. T.
Absolutely beautiful takeaway Sunday lunch, sorry no photograph - it didn’t stay on the plate long enough. Can’t wait for next Sunday! 😋
l. m.
Lovely food, good atmosphere and service was welcoming and attentive. Will go again.
R. S.
Very popular place on a hot summer evening. Lots of outdoor space with huge parasols. Enjoyed steak and a pasta dish. Ordered sweet chilli prawns as a starter but what arrived was what we would call prawn cocktail - definitely no chilli! We did query it but were assured by 2 members of staff that it was correct! The starters arrived at the same time as the main course. Place very busy so didn't pursue it.
R. D.
Good food, quick service, nicely done out. Huge outdoor area with kids play facilities, plenty of choice on the menu. Good high end pub food.
K. J.
Always great quality food and service. Friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. Regular visitor since moving nearby.
A. W.
Nice relaxed atmosphere. Food was really good. Would definitely go again.
L. M.
Lovely food, great service, lots of parking. Definitely visit again

Excellent supper and service. We chose from the starter menu for a tapas style meal. Cockle pot with laver bread, cockles and bacon topped off with melted cheese was superb.
A. C.
Absolutely 5 stars. From start to finish the service was amazing. The food was delicious and arrived quickly. Definitely be back soon.
J. D.
Arrived at 7.00pm but didn't get our food until almost 9.00pm. Burger was tasty but not value for money. Won't be rushing back.
C. W.
Very nice pub great for families beautiful garden for the children. Food very good a little pricey though.

Great food - some unusual options but very good. Coconut rice fantastic. Chicken satay starter one of the best I've had. Service slow. Would return
J. P.
Friendly staff. Good selection of drinks. Food was lovely. Child friendly with a nice little park outside. Can see us spending a lot of time here in the summer.
M. T.

Good selection of food and drink with daily specials, vegetarian and vegan options. Friendly helpful staff if a bit slow to serve, otherwise great. Lovely beer garden
J. P.
I’ve been here a few times and the food is always good. Staff are friendly and in the summer there is nice seating outside.
C. J.
Average overall. Steak was good but everything overpriced and bland. Will not go again. Wasted my money. Staff were good. Not much choice for vegetarians and people with allergies.
C. A.
Nice food selection.friendly staff. Good parking facility. Indoor and outdoor dining.
S. T.

Everyone enjoyed the meal. Good Service. Pleasant and helpful staff. Good Food.
N. P.
Whilst not frequent visitors to the Rat & Fiddle it always turns out ok
Nice food in the Sports Bar and decent selection of draught beer etc.
One negative is that it can seem like a creche with lots of screeching kids running and crawling round the bar...
Oh yes...one more thing, dont bother phoning as they hardly ever answer!
M. W.
The most enjoyable starters I have ever had ....and I eat out a lot and cook also ...the beetroot carpaccio with goats cheese was absolutely delicious
S. W.
Lovely atmosphere friendly and helpful staff and the food was absolutely gorgeous would highly recommend
C. J.
Great food and service at a good price. Will be visiting again. Nice play area for kids outside and plenty of parking.

Great night with friends, food and service were very good.
Reasonably priced, but the best of all, try the Gower Power ale:))), cracking.
Families are all welcome.
D. F.
We where in Wales for a long weekend , and had a meal here it was great realy enjoyed , nice staff and lovely food x
G. R.
Had a lovely meal here for lunch, the meal was nice and plenty of it,then ordered desert I ordered the jam & coconut cake with custard and my husband ordered crumble and custard when it came it looked delicious but the custard was freezing and we had to send it back,my husband ordered a coke and waited about 20 minuets and then I had to ask for it again,,, it wasn’t busy there so I’d hate to see how they’d cope if it was
L. w. A.
The food was too posh for me im a fussy eater, i had the pasta and it was soo greasy it made me feel sick, my partner had a beef burger but they didn't say they added sweet chilli sauce and he hates that so we spent a lot on food we wouldn't eat
S. P.
Good food good price and absolutely lovely staff.
It was my brother's 70th and my Mum's 90th, thank you so much would recommend you to anyone.
Good luck for the future
Thanks Steve Planchant.

My new favourite - the sweet potato and chickpea burger. Scrummy. A tad overcooked, mind and, they could do with having a new speaker, as the one above our heads sounds like it's blown.
B. E.
The main meals that myself and my son had were lovely but the desert was lovely but very small portion of chocolate fudge cake and one small scoop of ice cream
S. C.

nice place, good atmosphere,, staff very helpfull when we didn,t like where we were seated originally, food was reasonably good steak pie was excellent and lamb was good my only complaint is that the veg seemed to come out of the freezer with a bit of everything in it, didn,t really go with the food which spoiled a good meal better to just have one or two fresh veg
