Reviews of The Lyon Inn

We were visiting the Westbury Court Gardens and this public house is just next door. Good selection of both food options and drinks.
We picked two different light bites, the wife picked soup and half a sandwich, while I went with sandwich and wedges, although they call them chips. The portions were well worth the money, they tasted great and very filling

Called in for lunch after visiting Westbury Gardens. Very impressed with the warm welcome we received, we chose to sit outside as we had our dog with us. The outdoor seating area was second to none with blankets provided if necessary The food was excellent and arrived swiftly, was freshly cooked and piping hot. We will definitely visit again we were so impressed.
We had Panko Chicken, Chorizo and potato Croquettes and Onion Rings from the light bites and sides menu. Accompanied by Black Coffee, Elderflower and Honey gin and tonic, Hot chocolate and Diet Coke.Definitely will visit again, thank you for a great time.

Also only found on last night of a stay. Beautiful pub inside. Beer excellent. Look for the bookcase…secret fine dining room is unbelievable.

We were out driving and we called in here for a bite to eat and a quick drink. We’re so pleased we did, it was so nice! The people were really friendly, the pub itself is really nice and the garden is a real sun trap and really welcoming. There are little containers with dog biscuits and also little water bowls too. The food was restaurant quality with extras like little crispy apple sauce nuggets with the pork fillet etc, the chips were out of this world!!! Wish we could have stayed for pudding, you just know they would be amazing! Highly recommend this place, shame we don’t live closer ;)
K. J.
Delicious food, pleasant environment, little bit more expensive than the norm. Will definitely go again. Recommended.
M. I.
Fabulous food, cooked to perfection. Five family members out to celebrate a birthday, enjoyed starters and mains that were truly delicious. The chef came out to chat to us and we all rated the food as 5 star. Superb, dining experience. Definitely recommend and will be returning as soon as possible.

Absolutely loved staying here, only stayed for one night but it was lush! The room was stunning (and we had the small room) the owners/workers there were so nice and welcoming. We had the breakfast in the morning which was great! Me and my partner have already had talks about staying there again and I definitely would recommend this place to anyone and everyone! Can't wait to stay there again

Last night we attended the Lyon for their private dinning tasting menu experience. I must say that the food was outstanding. The wine matching was superb and the service was impeccable. I have eaten at many high end and Michelin star restaurants and this experience was as good as any I’ve enjoyed. Hats off to the whole team at the Lyon.
A. A.
What a fabulous welcoming, family run pub! Eat outside in your own dining booth. Great selection of guest ales and ciders along with locally sourced food ingredients (try the sausages!) Absorb the relaxing ambience of this historic building in this beautiful part of the world!
C.
Great food, nice place lovely decor, nice friendly staff. You shouldn't pass up the opportunity to eat here.
B. G.
Great find stopped here on way home had a nice light lunch freandly service would definitely recommend
C. M.
Good food and service. I have a mobile difficulty though,( I walk with a stick but often need help in order to do so.). And the pub is very old. So I coped with it and the cobbled pavement leading up to it because I had help. I look forward to being able to return some day.
L. B.
I am lucky to be able to call this my local.
Always a warm friendly welcome.
The food is always outstanding, none of that rubbish pub grub here.
I’ve tried most of the delights which change with the seasons.
Some of my favourites:
Bacon wrapped onion rings (dip them into the cheddar fondue….)
panko chicken, the best chips ever! (Triple cooked hunk of spud!) cheeeeeeese. Espresso martinis, the peroni is wonderful. Sandwiches, sharing boards, pies, burgers! The pizzas are also lovely, oh it’s hard to choose…. Whatever you choose it’s always delicious!!!
The family work so hard to make this a fab place, they do a brilliant job.
A. K.
Really friendly staff and great food at a fair price. The pies were incredible! Looking forward to returning again soon.
M. S.
We had a group Christmas Meal here. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. I highly recommend The Lyon Inn

A wonderful weekend spent at the Lyon Inn. On arrival we were greeted with a fantastic friendly young man. The rooms we stayed in were immaculate and well set out with everything you would want. The food was just outstanding to say the very least. Everyone was so lovely and attentive. Andi, Craig and family you are fabulous. We will definatley be back.
J. M.
Shame we discovered here on our last day, we could easily have visited again. Went for Sunday lunch & it was absolutely lovely, all home cooked & plenty of it. The caramelised onion bread for starters was amazing & the desserts were so big! All the staff were very friendly & the whole place was spotless. Will definitely revisit when we are this way again.
C. R.
We spotted The Lion Inn as we were visiting Westbury Court Gardens. What a great find! As we went in the door, nice friendly staff invited us to choose a table, and showed us the menu. It was big, but due to the time we opted for baguettes, one with roast pork and apple sauce and the other had egg mayo and watercress. Both were served with salad and the best chips we have tasted in a long time. We could not fault this amazing place and will definitely be back one evening to have the a la carte. Thank you for this great experience, far superior to the usual ‘lunch in a pub.’
K. K.
Lovely food and friendly staff. Went on a Monday when it was burger, pizza and oasta night. Had a tasty lamburger along with really scruumy chips. Very filling and a ferry good price. Lots of choices for drinks. Enjoyed my mocktail.
Went back on Thursday and enjoyed full menu. Everything was delicious and well presented. Plenty of food presented with style.
Recommend you try this place for yourself
A. C.
This is the best food in the area. We eat here regularly and are yet ti have a bad meal.
L. L.
We enjoyed a lovely meal here tonight; great food, fantastic service and beautiful decor. The Lyon Inn deserves to do really well. 😊
P. R.
Come here if you like a decent lunch or dinner as the standard of food here is exceptional! Staff are friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
M. C.
Very friendly and helpful staff. The food was very good and the menu had nice vegetarian and gluten free options.
K. B.
Excellent Sunday lunch. Would have got 5 stars but for some minor issues such as an obviously new member of staff not properly trained so cutlery arrived after our meal.
D. M.
Fantastic. Sunday lunch was perfect. Large portions and gravy was excellent. Will return soon.
J. S.
Cosy, friendly pub/restaurant. Great food and atmosphere. Can't fault it
G. P.
Lovely old pub serving some decent ales and IPAs. I had the local chestnut ale, it was delicious. It was a sunny day so went and drank the better in the rear garden. Lots of seating with some having cover as they were booth type seating. I also ordered the parmesan and truffle oil chips,- Also delicious :)
K. B.
Impromptu Sunday lunch popped in on the way home , was really good and friendly staff nice vibe about the place ,
M. M.
Our first visit here. Very friendly environment. I booked a bar meal but I actually chose from the a la carte menu which was nice to see just what was on offer for our return visit. If you want a cheap bar meal this is not for you. If you want fresh ingredients cooked to order by a chef that cares then give the Lyon Inn a try. Good wine selection too.
A. A.
Family Sunday lunch was excellent. Well prepared full of flavour and good value. Friendly service and around lovely pub. Highly recommended!
N. H.
Very nice food with good portion sizes.
Very friendly and courteous service!
Really loved it and will definitely visit again.
J. B.
A very warm welcome from the staff. The food was the best we've had locally for a long time. Would thoroughly recommend.
L. H.
An absolute gem of a pub. Went with 2 work colleagues tonight and had three amazing burgers, mine was delicious (lamb with mint mayo) with big fat homemade chips and a fresh, crispy salad. Service is super fast and the staff are welcoming, really friendly and helpful. Will definitely be coming back to try the A La Carte and a Sunday Roast. So good to have a great local pub in Westbury and well worth travelling to if you live further afield, for a delicious meal out!
B. P.
Friendly owners, lovely clean restaurant and delicious food. Thoroughly recommend. Dog friendly too.
B. E. (.
Only stopped for a drink what a great place this seemed to be -we will be back for something to eat next time we are in Gloucester
E. F.
Mindblown!!! We visited on a Tuesday evening for their 'Tapas' menu and had foolishly assumed it would be Spanish Tapas but it was literally just small plates of various dishes - like a tasting menu. The quality of those dishes was excellent along with wonderful flavours. We had 12 and loved each one. The cheesecake dessert was to die for completely homemade cream cheese topped with homemade whipped cream. It's worth a visit for that alone!! Grear local draft beer on tap too. The staff were plentiful and ever so polite, attentive and enthusiastic. This is a very successful establishment but run by decent, genuine and humble people who don't strut around like they own the place (like another place in the Forest I won't mention). We will be returning. Highly recommended!!
D. w. N.
Visited here on Saturday evening and was blown away by how delicious everything was. I had the vegan risotto and chocolate layers dessert - both were amazing and it's so nice to find a restaurant that has lots of incredible looking vegan options (I can't wait to come back and try the others!).
Others in my household had the chicken and the lamb which they both said were delicious and the cheese and sticky toffee pudding for dessert which also went down very well.
Atmosphere was lovely - very comfy and friendly and great service!
Highly recommend!! Can't wait to come back.
T. F. E.
Great hospitality! Friendly atmosphere.. good beer & cider choice and SUPERB FOOD ( 10 STARS !)
J. W.
Found this gorgeous place by accident, and so pleased we did! The food, service and atmosphere was faultless....my partner even went as far to say that it was the best roast that he has had in a very long time. Definitely a place we will re visit if we are back in the area 😊
A. S.
Excellent food service and staff were really friendly .
P. M.
It's ok. Very expensive. Had the smallest piece of cheese cake for £5.50 ever .insult really but didn't want to cause a fuss
S. F.
Popped in on a Sunday. Fab friendly service, amazing beef sandwich and roast potatoes.
a. b.
Delicious food, friendly warm service and we will definitely go again!!
We have been meaning to come here for dinner after hearing all the good reviews since it changed hands. We weren't disappointed. The food was excellent - tasty and fresh. Had the best burger that I've eaten in years and the steak, halibut and desserts were fabulous - ooh and don't get me started on the triple fried truffle chips! It worked out at about £40 per head for 3 courses with pre dinner drinks and a bottle of wine. Thank you so much for such an excellent meal.
B. P.
Our granddaughter and her partner gave us a lovely surprise today we had two afternoon tea parcels delivered. The food was brilliant such a wonderful assortment of sandwiches and cakes so fresh and tasty. We would have no hesitation to recommend this 5 star quality thank you so much.
J. I.
Really friendly local pub with a great homely feel to it. We stopped in by chance really on our way through the country and were really glad we did. Didn't stop for a meal however the menu looked appealing and would have happily stayed longer under different circumstances. The pub is family run and prides itself on a good time had by all regardless of whether you are there for coffee or a three course meal. Which is great. We'll remember this place and come back in the future!
E. M.
Excellent hospitality and food! Lovely new, clean rooms. Incredibly friendly staff made us feel welcome and right at home. Great food, I can’t recommend the chips enough!
P. M.
Amazing Sunday dinner, food was a great portion size, extremely well cooked and just amazing flavours from start to finish. Staff are friendly and they have my favourite gin. What more could you want from a Sunday afternoon.... Perfection...
H. B.
Wonderful service, with super friendly staff. The place is really nicely decorated - cosy but stylish (and dog friendly In the bar area! )
The food is excellent - modern dining which isn't too 'fancy,'. It has something for everyone, from fish to steak and pies. The starters are particularly good and the desserts are absolutely DIVINE!! I'd go there just for the puds! 😍
J. T.
Had food here a few times and it's always been amazing, but today I had the Sunday lunch.
Now that was unbelievable. It was insanely good. The gravy, the roasts the meat just everything was superb. I would highly recommend a visit.
J. M.
Such lovely staff and the food was excellent
D. D.
Very friendly place with well presented rooms. Loved the whitebait starter. Found the lunchtime meal portions a bit small and i'm not a big eater. The evening menu looked brilliant with plenty of variety. I would go back to sample the evening
menu.
T. E.
Driven past this pub so many times but noticed a new paint job recently. Went for a Sunday lunch and can at this is the best food for miles around.
Cool layout, with a very simple bar area that was really welcoming then contemporary dining room out the back.
Chef knows his flavours, try it!
M. S.
The best Sunday roast I've had in a long time. Prompt and friendly service. Highly recommended
t. b.
Good staff (gaffer from Harborne, B'ham); choice of 3 real ales; good coffee; very comfortable; friendly; welcoming; and I'm now running out of apostrophes 😊 Fabulous, contemporary, 'medieval' wall paintings adorning the exterior. Go take ye a looke! 👀

We visited with my brother and his wife yesterday (Tuesday) evening. Everything about our experience was excellent, quite an interesting menu, I had the duck breast with oriental style vegetables, it was delicious with quite a fennel taste to the veg. My vegetarian brother was well catered for, I was impressed that the person that I spoke to when booking checked about dietary requirements. The two girls had seabass fillets which they said were excellent, the desserts were also delicious with the emphasis on quality rather than quantity. The real ales looked really tempting but I'm afraid driving ruled them out. I was puzzled by the Google question "is there a restroom", I'm assuming is was an americanism for "are there toilets ?", yes of course and very clean, if it meant "is there a lounge?", yes there is where we took our coffee, and very comfortable and quiet, the service was discreet, friendly and efficient. You may well need to book, this place is popular.
A. R.
Lovely pub with restaurant towards the back. Well stocked bar and lounge area, both of which take food orders. Traditionally decorated and nicely furnished throughout. Friendly staff and locals too. A great place to stop off for a pint or meal.
C. L.
Nice Sunday lunch with a good amount of sides. Tasty puddings also. Nice garden area with shelter if needed. Staff were attentive and helpful.
J. P.
Brilliant pub, great decor and atmosphere and well deserving of its recent awards. Landlord very welcoming. Great selection of real ale and very well kept. Sometimes little things make a big difference, my daughter was in a tiz on arrival and landlord managed to source a glass of milk and she was soon back on song.
L. C.
I discovered this great pub on way back from cider testing. I received really friendly customer service and got local Ale. Food was good, interior looks fresh and had old fashion soul and cosy atmosphere. Bartender said, they just opened it two days ago. Fingers crossed for your success guys. I really enjoyed during my visit. Beer was awesome.
j. j.
Wow!! Just had the most delicious Roast beef dinner. I have never tasted beef like it!! My husband had the tagliatelle and said it was the best food he had had in ages. Portions were good, lovely atmosphere and not over priced.
M. D.
Good food, and accommodating staff, made for a pleasurable lunch.
N. C.
Character pub with stylish interior. Friendly efficient staff, great menu, delicious food served hot and well presented. Really enjoyed dinner here in the dog friendly bar, our Labrador was delighted to be with us too. There is also a restaurant for well behaved humans 😉 We will be back, thanks Team Lyon....

Stopped in after a wander around Westbury Court gardens. Lovely Sunday roast, and very friendly staff. Went out of their way to accommodate us despite being fully booked.
A. I.
Fantastic! Amazing service, top class food and lovely venue with good social distancing in place. I have to say this was fab and we will most certainly come back again.
J. H.
We have just had a fabulous meal at the Lion. It has to be the best meal we have had for a very long time.
Couldn't fault it in any way.
C. W.
Riding our motorcycle down the A48 one evening and we spotted the Lyon Inn. We had never been there before, but it looked quite inviting and so parked the bike and popped in for a quick drink and something to eat. We were very warmly welcomed by the land lady who made us feel immediately at home. The ambience was lovely, the food imaginative, tasty and perfectly prepared and even the locals were friendly and engaged us in conversation. We will not hesitate to go back the Lyon again.
E. B.
First class food, brilliant chef and attentive staff. Would definitely visit again when in the area. Homemade pastry and the graveyard was to die for. 😁
V. H.

Great home ales in this pub. Sharing platters were delicious
S. P.
Went here one evening last week with the husband and two kids (11&13 yrs). Lovely pub with great atmosphere plus the staff were fab too. Didn't dine in the restaurant but had deserts in pub area with a drinks and pub snacks. Everything was a bit expensive (£6 for deserts) but we were on holiday so treated ourselves.
S. G.
Super food, always a great pleasure to eat there. They have a great chef who aims to please and always succeeds.Nice atmosphere lovely staff (and the decor in the ladies loo is fab! )

Meal not as good as it should have been really. Cod cheeks scampi batter was really greasy and burger cooked dry. Everything else was lovely and service very good.
J. J.
Such a varied selection of dishes to choose from. We have never been disappointed, the food has always been exceptional in taste and in presentation. Try it, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Nice ales. Super nice owners and staff. Completely renovated. Had a sandwich, which was boring/bland. Would go back for the atmosphere and ales. Perhaps try the menu one more time.
K.
A beautiful pub inside and out, with lovely staff, delicious food and great beers to match. Absolutely worth a visit 🌞
C. V.
Went on tapas night. Food was great and staff helpful and friendly. Would definitely visit again and would recommend.
T. T.
Tasty food, but the menu lacks any real vegetarian or vegan options, and the first bottle of tap water given to us tasted a bit funny. It was replaced with a better-tasting one.
B. P.
Possibly the best pub food I have had during my time in England. The food and service definitely gets the Aussie tick of approval. Will be back 🤗🙌🏼
B.
Would give more than 5 stars if I could. Staff are brilliant, food is excellent and drinks are spot on.
I. B.
A group of 5 of us ate there in the evening over the Bank Holiday weekend. There was a good choice and great food, as well as very good value and service. Would certainly recommend it.
E. S.
Beautifully updated, delicious freshly cooked food from locally sourced suppliers. Hence the fairly high restaurant prices. Recommend
M. P.
Very pleasantly surprised, 1 menu item currently unavailable but very acceptable alternative immediately offered. Excellent standard of food and presentation, a memorable meal.
A. C.
You want Sunday lunch? Go. Excellent food, great service and all at a price which makes it excellent value. Hosts, Chris and Sue will surely make you very welcome.

S. M.
Good service, tasty menu, attractive ambience. Good quality experience and good value for money. Well worth trying out with a view to being a regular place to visit.
k. d.
Excellent quality food and service, but the menu seems to be inverse. In that the more you pay for an item the less quantity you seem to get. But as I said quality is excellent.
M. N.
I gave them 5 stars , and a genuine good review..so why are you asking for more feedback, look back at your record's.
P. P.
