Reviews of Restaurant 1840

Went for anniversary meal, all staff friendly and obliging. Meal choices good. We had the pork belly and chicken parfait starters. Delicious and not too filling so we could enjoy our mains and finish them with out feeling too full. Mains we went off the specials menu. Was beef slow cooked and was delicious, large portion of beef. Didn't have room for dessert. Loved the building and what they have done to it. Looking forward to going back.

I can highly recommend 1840 restaurant for morning coffee(stay in or take away) and breakfast /brunch. Great little rest stop for dog walkers or friends/ families walking along the Silkin way.

This was our first time at the restaurant an we were seated on the balcony upstairs which was spacious, and a great view of the lovely building. We had the lamb an a chicken dish. Both meals were presented very well and tasted exceptional. Our waiter, Josh, was outstanding an a real testament to the restaurant as he was professional, down to earth, funny and attentive. Really made us feel welcome an enhanced our experience so can't credit him enough for making my birthday meal such a pleasant occasion. Overall a really good restaurant, with great character, food an staff.

Really enjoyed our experience here. Very friendly and a personal service in a lovely setting and the food was excellent. Highly recommend the Baked Alaska, suberb! Just the right sized portions to enjoy a 3 course meal. We're not kept waiting for long periods between courses or waiting to pay. Highly recommend!

Went for anniversary meal with my fiancé. Staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Waitress was lovely. Food was brilliant. Chateaubriand was cooked to perfection. Great ambience and vibe. Reasonable price. Would definitely recommend.

Fabulous food with a lovely ambience in this converted old church. Our brunch experience was truly enhanced by the delightful Alex whose warm welcome and impeccable table-side manner ensured a relaxed and comfortable experience. Highly recommended!
A. B.
Great location and really nice inside. Have been previously when they've had old black and white films playing on the walls which is really interesting to see. Food is brilliant also, can't fault it!

Stumbled across this place while walking in Telford Town Park and it's a cracker.
Thought we'd have a tea or coffee but when we saw the menu we couldn't resist the fishcakes with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce.
Very generous portion size. Eggs cooked to perfection and the fishcakes were superb.
Will definitely be going back.

We had a fabulous meal last w/e at this great restaurant! Was highly recommended for our rather special guests by reception staff at the Telford International Holiday Inn, and did not disappoint! We wanted somewhere that two famous celebrity chefs and another equally famous tv interior designer could have a relaxing evening with excellent food, and Jelly and her team pulled out all the stops to accommodate us! Well done all of you!
S. B.
Fantastic evening, couldn't recommend enough.
From arrival to chocolates on the bill everything was perfect- we were served by connor who couldn't do enough for us was very knowledgeable about the restaurant.
To start I had the salmon- beautiful flavours and really enjoyed it. My husband had the pork and it was 'the best he'd ever had'
For mains I had the chicken, which was made my the crispy chicken skin garnish. And my husband had the lamb and again he absolutely loved it
We only had one dessert, a baked alaska as we were both stuffed. It was amazing and we definitely managed to find space for it. We will be back!

Nice place , great cocktails and food was good . The little nuts of church history are a nice touch. Staff were very young and needed some assistance but they were really polite and attentive and its a difficult job .

Came here for father's day and this is a hidden gem in Telford. Upon receiving the menu there is a great story about the building and its history with pictures inside the building showing the transformation. Very well decorated and the food was really good. I'm very picky but the only reason I didn't give 5 out of 5 is because I would expect more with the portion size of meats with the roasts and I wanted cranberry sauce with my Sunday dinner, which they didn't have, Nevertheless the food was amazing.
A. M.
Came here for Sunday lunch the other day. It's very close to being 5 stars however it has great potential so I'm being pedantic. The group I was with decided to settle for a set menu to make it simple. I felt the starters and desserts were a bit weak/basic. Don't get me wrong, they were nice but they didn't have that wow factor. The atmosphere was pleasant and the roast was superb. Best Yorkshire puddings I have ever had. Some minor issues with the roast were: beef was chewy and slightly dry; there weren't enough roast potatoes; the plates could be bigger and maybe something extra would have been nice like caramelized cabbage. However on a whole it was a lovely experience and the staff were nicely attentive. Would recommend.

Here for lunch on Remembering Sunday.
Excellent food, the best roast that I've had for ages, super Yorkshire puddings, parsnips and carrots, very good beef albeit a little bit chewy (hence 4 stars) apple and cherry turnover very nice.
The chairs aren't high enough for the tables or vice-versa (again 4 stars because of this) that aside it's in a wonderful old church, a black on white movie playing on the wall to create a bit of ambiance.
I highly recommend this restaurant, book ahead though, we will definitely return.

Beautiful place, beautiful food, great service
Pork belly starter, lamb main in the pictures

I brought my partner here last night having previously visited a few times with family and always had a lovely evening with great food. A perfect place to go for a special occasion. 🎉
We both had the pork belly starter, sharing chateaubriand, finished off with the chocolate brownie and salted caramel dome. We could tell all the ingredients were high quality as everything just melted in our mouth! All the flavors worked well, well cooked and well presented. 👍
The staff were so welcoming and attentive from the minute we stepped through the door. We sat in the top dining area which was nice and quiet and overlooked the rest of the restaurant.
We had a lovely evening and left feeling very full!! Will definitely be coming back again. A hidden gem in Telford! 💎

My husband and I had a top class meal here tonight, the service was the best we have had anywhere for a number of years. The food was perfection, you must dine here you will not regret it. Thank you 1840.
N. M.
If you want chain restaurants or chicken/kebab/pizza places, you are very well catered for in Telford. Unfortunately, there are far too few places like 1840. An absolute gem of a restaurant, serving fantastic food with fantastic service. This was my first visit and will definitely not be my last!
R. B.
My wife and I have eaten here on a few different occasions and have never left without being completely over the moon with our evening. The food, wine, service, and atmosphere are always perfect. Would highly recommend.
W. W.
Great find. Food - very tasty, service - attentive without being intrusive, venue - lots of character, would I go again - without a doubt.
A.
Excellent food, friendly staff, a great evening had by all, highly recommend

I've been to a lot of fine dining establishments but this place certainly trumps all. The food here was absolutely exquisite, genuinely incredible flavours and ingredients. The staff as well were incredibly accommodating, helpful and charming. The church itself has incredibly unique warmth and charisma. I certainly class this restuarant as one of the loveliest fine dining experiences I've had in years!
V. W.
Had the best evening EVER, heard about this restaurant from my Son, who raved about this place. Booked a table and enjoyed every minute there. The welcome from the owner and wait staff was overwhelming certainly not expected, I knew we were in for a great evening. I decided what I wanted before I arrived, to save time the each course was served with expert precision. And oh the cocktails were to die for 😍 we really appreciated the history of the building very classy and we were made to feel so special. Thank you 1840 team. Definitely the best restaurant I’ve been to in many years.
R. P.
Amazing place. Waitress a credit to the place. Food sublime... Defo returning. Get yourselves there.. Immediately!!!!

Wife and I visited tonight. Slight mix up over booking but the staff soon found us a table. Had confirmation of booking which we showed staff. Excellent food and service, whilst slightly more expensive than other places, it was well worth it.
L. C.

Nice little restaurant that was loads nicer than I expected. Excellent service and the portion sizes are fine despite what other reviews have said. Excellent service and I dont think the staff could of done more. Four of us went and everyone felt the same. Will definitely eat there again.

Had to leave review beforw we even finished our dinner! Most amazing food and service. Very high standards regarding Covid-19. And let's face it not many restaurants serves Baked Alaska!
a. b.
Gorgeous food, lovely atmosphere, very attentive staff. I love how some of the features of Stirchley Lane Methodist Chapel have been retained.
D. R. (.
Had an amazing meal at 1840 last evening ... food was top notch and beautifully presented as well as tasting divine ... staff were very helpful and attentive to all the customers... and the complimentary chocolates given at the end were absolutely scrumptious... made by their own chef!
The only reason I’ve not given it 5 stars ⭐️ is that the room temperature would have benefited from being slightly warmer.
D. D.
An excellent establishment who have maintained their exceptionally high standards even through Covid-19. How? By delivering pre-prepared meals! We have used this service (Thursdays and Sundays) for several weeks and have only praise for the quality and service. We thank you for all your efforts and keeping us well fed whilst we have self-isolated. 5 stars isn't enough!
S. G.
What a fantastic find in an unusual location. Owners, staff and especially the chef's are fantastic. Always great food, service and price.
B. B.
Really enjoyed my time there. Went with the company for a celebratory dinner. Food was excellent. No complaints from a party of 9. The cheese board was a particular highlight. We enquired on the night about holding our Christmas party there. A great experience all round in a lovely setting.
L. R. (.
Fabulous experience and wonderful food. Well looked after by Connor.
C. P.
One if the best restaurants we've been to in a long time. Food, service and staff were marvelous. A must visit.
L. R.
We've been meaning to pop down to 1820 for some time and so today the whole family went for a Sunday roast. From start to finish this was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The host was most welcoming, the staff were attentive without being overbearing (thanks Ethan) and the food was just superb. We were even offered a little box to take the left overs home without having to ask, which was nice. I didn't think the bill was any bigger than paying for a decent Sunday carvery anywhere else and it was a little more grown up than most other local eateries. How refreshing!
We are absolutely going to go back and so we were quite disappointed when we found out that the breakfast menu may be stopped because of lack of numbers. Come on Telford - we have this beautiful little gem on our doorstep and these people have put a whole load of time effort and money into providing a much needed alternative to the 'something and chips' you get everywhere else from the back of a freezer. Can't we support them a little more? We'll definitely be back soon ............
S. A.
What a GEM beautifully renovated chapel serving the most delicious food with those little extras which make it a very special dining experience. The service was second to none they work very very hard to make everyone enjoy their visit shall definitely be returning very soon. Thank you for a special evening.
A. W.
Always a real treat visiting 1840!! Excellent food, with a friendly welcoming atmosphere :)
B. J.
Had dinner there twice on one week when staying nearby at the Old Rectory of St James (fantastic b&b!). The first time there were 6 of us and the second time, 3. Food and service were excellent on both occasions. Lovely choice. Highly recommended.
H. S.
Nice place and staff but unfortunately the food is not very well cooked or flavoured, meat overcooked, veg was poor, it was well presented but overall overpriced. It's hard to find good restaurants and I thought we had found one when I looked at the menu, I would give them another chance but I think too many people are too quick to give 5 stars when three is about right for the price.
j. b.
Wow!!!
Fantastic food, great ambiance, friendly staff and a wonderful evening.... Just remember to come after payday.
J. S.
Another lovely evening at this delightful restaurant. The food, atmosphere and staff were up to their usual high standard.

Went on a recommendation by trip advisor for a first date. Restaurant is a beatiful converted chapel containing information dotted around on how the conversion took place.Only opted for the main: Halibut, but it was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Lovely restaurent, would highly recommend it.
s. h.
Had dinner here for my wifes birthday, service was amazing and the food was brilliant, i believe this to be the best steak i have eaten in Telford/Ironbridge without any doubt and this was echoed by my wife, brother in law and father inlaw, mother in law had said the same for the Lamb. Keep up the good work.
H. E. D.
Now this is what I call a unique UK COUNTRY INN, dont miss it. Go out of your way to eat there, the owners are personable and very attentive, makes you feel like part of the family. I definitely would go back.

It’s always good to try a new place and Restaurant 1840 did not disappoint following some friend’s suggestions.
We were warmly welcomed and taken in by Ethan. The place has been very tastefully done, it’s very open and plenty of room on each table - we had a good table for 4.
We ordered drinks which which came nicely served along with breads and their current topping - the local equivalent of bruschetta.
The entries were all perfectly presented and tasty: salmon & cream cheese, halloumi with spicy dip, wagyu salad and duck and gin pate.
Our mains were equally well presented with pork belly and chateaubriand cooked to perfection with all the right accompaniments.
All during the meal the staff were all very attentive, friendly, and made us feel like they enjoyed having us there.
Finished off with a couple of chocolate brownies, and a warm ‘bye’ as we left.
1840 isn’t for the budget conscious but very good value for money for that special night out.

My first visit and WOW. The food was cooked to perfection and the service was good. I ordered off the Sunday lunch menu.
For starters I had Duck and Liver Patè with bread, butter and Sweet Onion Chutney. The bread was fresh and with a crisp crust, topped with patè and some Chutney and wow a nice combination.
Then the main
Honey mustard Gammon with traditional roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, Chive and onion stuffing, honey mustard roasted carrots and greens. The greens consisted of split peas and Brockley, which was cooked al dente.
The roast potatoes were very crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, the Gammon was perfect with some crunchy bits of caramelised honey mustard. The Yorkshire pudding was also perfect with a crunchy top and a firm base, filled with the stuffing which was cooked to perfection and not dried out.
For Sweet
Alaska bake with a drizzle of raspberry syrup. My first time having this sweet so I think it had set a high benchmark. Very nice combination 👌
Altogether an awesome meal
