Reviews of The Stables

The service was excellent. I noticed a Irish manager observation where on q. Walking around making sure all was in order. Apologies I didn't get his name. We had a 3 course meal. Very timely order. Had the fish of the day sole on the bone. Just ever so slightly overcooked. Cheesecake was practically frozen sauce with it was delicious. But Would I return?? yes. Booked again for another pop up

Nice relaxed atmosphere, setting in old stables.
Friendly staff. Tasty food, all items in the menu have calories count.

Splendid , we had the chef’s special for the day which was Venison. The best I have ever had.
Service was great, staff very friendly and knew their stuff.
Strongly recommend it

Midweek lunch for 3.
Excellent choices on the menu and there's a vegan menu too. Lamb rump for me with tenderstem broccoli to complement. A little chilli in amongst the broccoli to liven it up. I'm told the Dover sole with Morecambe Bay brown shrimp was delicious too.
Service was excellent....attentive and efficient.

Great place! The services provided by Chloe and Raphaelle were superb ! And Chef was on point when cooking a gluten free meal for my niece.

Had breakfast one morning here during my stay at the Grove. The bar is very cozy and the decor gives a warm vibe in the otherwise chilly winter. The view into the golf course is stunning under morning sunlight. Staff exceptionally friendly and would check in with me every now and then to ensure I’m fully served. Portion of food was generous, quality of the English breakfast is of great standards!

I have been to the stables restaurant and the bar a couple of times in the last few months. The food in the restaurant is wonderful, kind of a Gastro pub experience… Maybe slightly better.
The bar has a great atmosphere to it too; with a wide selection of drinks on offer.
Personally, I think that the service could be slightly more attentive. When we went for dinner at the stables restaurant we ordered a bottle of champagne which was kept in an ice bucket away from the table, however, we were left with empty glasses for quite awhile just staring at our champagne in the bucket… I think for the reputation that the Grove has, and the price is it charges, it’s not great to be sat with empty glasses when you have a bottle of champagne across the room in ice bucket, waiting for their service staff to top up your glass.
I found the same level of service when I visited at a different time with my friend, just to the bar. We arrived and were quickly sat at a booth. After perusing the menu I went to the loo, by the time I came back our drinks order had not been taken and my friend was sitting there at an empty table.
This all being said, wouldn’t hesitate to visit again for a great atmosphere and good food if service had more attention to detail.
Really love that the staff will take you in a golf buggy from the main hotel to the stables and back if you need that.

The service was below expectation, the menu is not very broad, the pricing is higher than usual, the interior needed maintenance and the tables were not successfully cleaned. Would not be inclined to eat in the stables again.

I have never a bad experience at the Grove. The service is exemplary and the general atmosphere fabulous. Whether you are going for a meal or just popping in for a drink. Food is really good quality. Drinks are pricey but what you expect from a 5 star hotel. My favourite place and I feel lucky it's on my doorstep!

It was good but I wouldn't say it's AMAZING. I wouldn't go out my way to go again.
There's plenty of better places at better prices.

Lovely food and attentive waiting staff. We had the large group set menu which had a decent selection of dishes. Seating in the restaurant was comfortable; I'd never really thought about how comfortable seats are in a restaurant until sitting in The Stables! Clean toilets, although the upstairs restrooms were cold.

The experience was amazing, special thanks to Kaylem for the cocktail.

Let me start by saying that my rating would be higher if the Grove didn’t charge five star prices. I’ve celebrated many an occasion at The Stables, and have been a fan and a loyal customer for many years now.
While the menu is still solid, and the quality of the food fine, sadly, while everyone is very friendly; there has been a distinct shift in the quality of service.
They are particularly old-school (they take a credit card guarantee) and unaccommodating with reservations. It is now quite hard to get through on their reservation line, and their response times to emails are quite long, so making the booking requires real effort, which is odd.
We recently had a long standing booking (I’d made it more than a month in advance) for 5 for dinner, and when I contacted them by email to increase the number to six more than a day in advance, they declined and said they were fully booked. That means they were already planning to cram us into a table not meant for 5 (tables are generally made for parties in even numbers), or they were just being unnecessarily rigid. In the end they relented and agreed to add another chair to the table.
Aside from that, when we arrived I, as well as on the previous booking, I noticed fewer servers than there had been historically, with longer waits between courses and to get drinks, and a generally far more chaotic energy to the place. There were six of us and all three courses took more than an hour each, making the dinner last more than three hours. They also don’t leave the wine bottle at the table, which meant that while waiting for food we had to chase servers for top ups on glasses. We asked if they could just leave our wine at the table and they refused. When we had leftovers at the end of the night, and asked for a doggy bag, we were told we would have to sign a contract waiving our rights to sue to the Grove in the event of food poisoning. I’ve never heard such a ridiculous proposal in all my life.
One expects an experience commensurate with the prices one pays, and I no longer feel that equation comes anywhere near adding up. What was a casually elegant place to dine now has the air of a frenetic TGI Fridays run by a team with no sense of customer service. Again, the food is faultless, and quite tasty and the menu diverse and ever changing. It’s a real shame, really.
I’m afraid my 5+ year history with this place has come to an end.

Been here many times before, ever since it opened and never had a bad meal yet!
This time I took my wife and sister in-law. Although I had messed up the day/time and England were playing Columbia the service was as good as ever, despite the adjacent bar being packed out with people watching the TV.

I really like this place and the surroundings are stunning and can’t be beaten. The stables itself are modern and clean and provide good service and great service. The staff are so welcoming and made such a fuss of our daughter which was lovely. Definitely worth a visit.

Fabulous place to eat, excellent food, great atmosphere, good service. Wouldn't make a habit of going there too often, otherwise it wouldn't be a special place to visit for celebratory occasions such as birthday etc.
