Attended as part of wedding party and had 7-course meal, food was lovely and well paced, came with alcoholic drinks to compliment the meals. Staff were lovely and accommodated individual requests e.g. non-alcoholic drinks for drivers and low alcohol tolerance people (like me!). Chairs and set up was very comfortable and environment was airy and well maintained temperature (given heatwave). Restaurant stayed open past usual close time to accommodate the wedding guests and no drink was left to run dry. My favourite course was the scallop and squid which (like the rest of the food) was built with complex flavours. Would recommend for a special occasion experience, or even a one off meal. Compliments to the serving staff and chefs!

Lovely little restaurant hidden on the outskirt of city centre. The inside was like the dining room of a posh mansion. Modern decor which was lovely. Only downside was the lack of customers, probably since we went at 12:30 on a wednesday. The food was surprisingly nice and decent portion sizes too. Bread and butter was served after we ordered. Starter: a duck dish which was pretty tasty and very filling. My partner ordered the pasta with fish for starter and that one was equally as nice but more refreshing. Main: salmon with a thai green curry sauce. Nicely cooked salmon, very juicy, the sides went well with the dish. Only downside was the aurburgines. They were very bitter.

Lunch for 6 and it was an absolute delight. The restaurant has a very nice, relaxed atmosphere and the food is amazing. One of the best meals we’ve had for years. Excellent service too. Also, the chairs are so comfortable. Will be back.

Today we had lunch at Arras, a Birthday treat for me. What a lovely experience. We loved the lay out and ambience and couldn’t fault the service or the food. We have been trying out other hi end restaurants in York, some “taster type” menus but prefer a decent portion from a small selection of dishes. (The poached chicken starter was fab) Thank you for a lovely day, we will be back !

Loved this place. Had the 5 course kitchen menu with recommended wines and was blown away with everything served. Each course was exemplary, and the selected wines matched perfectly. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable without being pushy. If we had a very minor complaint, it was that the amuse-bouche, a gorgeous miniature baked potato with a mouse and caviar, was served on a ridiculous stone disk the size of a hockey puck...almost impossible to eat without dropping some of the food onto the table. Expensive, but definitely worth it. I would not be surprised to find that Arras gains a Michelin star at some point, and we'll definitely be going back.

The food was stunning. We went for the chefs selection which was the 5 courses. I loved every dish!!! I was also left feeling full with the generous loaf of beautiful bread that is given at the start of the meal, to accompany the courses. There was also canapes before the meal while we had a drink in their bar area. The service was also outstanding, everyone very knowledgeable about the wines and courses. It was a very pleasant and tasty experience. My only slight negative would be that it just is a little too stark. There isn't really any atmosphere. It's just too bright inside. I was hoping once it got a little darker outside that they would lower the lights for a more intimate dining experience but it didn't happen. It leaves me feeling very aware of the other diners. It is hard to relax into a meal when you're so aware of the room and the people. If they can turn the lights down then it would be a perfect dining experience.... if you have the cash! £££ A variety of foods, from potato, scallops (2, which was generous!), fish, pork, and there was a lovely generous eccles cakes, flat breads, apple etc to go with the cheese. You get to choose the cheese as they bring a trolley to you so that was also great. Lovely wines for each course which matched the food so well too.

I just got back from Arras and wow what a meal! Not only was the food so beautiful to look at (attention detail was incredible), it was sooo tasty! Excellent experience from the moment we walked through the door. We've been regulars at the Little Arras bakery since it opened and had high hopes for the restaurant... We were not disappointed. The food was glorious. The presentation was on point. The drinks were excellent. The staff were knowledgeable & friendly. If you want to eat some of the best food in York, cooked by some of the best chefs in York and served by some of the best front of house staff in york, then Arras is the one.

Comfortable, clean and welcoming surroundings. Clean simple lines, excellent toilets. Wheelchair friendly. Attentive, well judged service. Only a small selection of dishes-3 for each course plus bread and butter. Beautifully served, interesting flavours, very tasty. Ample for a small to medium appetite. Outdoor seating as well. Only a few minutes walk from the city centre.

Booked a table here on a last minute trip to York and couldn't have asked for a better experience. My wife and I went for the kitchen tasting menu and every single course was exquisite. Service was also very good and overall Arras lives up to its reputation for fine dining in a much more casual, relaxed atmosphere. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Visit, walk, swim, fly, crawl on your knees over broken glass if you must, but visit. You will find food that belies its extraordinarily approachable price, that is adventurous, splendidly presented, freshly prepared, served in a modern but very restful “David Hicks” setting. It’s every bit as good as Raby Hunt at a quarter the price, and the set lunch ( £28 for three courses) is frankly a steal!

Visited on a Saturday evening, we all went for the blind kitchen menu and had the paired wines. All I can say is WOW, exciting waiting to see what came next. Every course was beautifully presented and full of many different flavours, each mouthful was savoured and enjoyed. The wines complimented each of the 5 courses. Booked a table for two for our anniversary. Best decision I could have made. From the excellent attentive staff to the beautiful, delicious food everything was perfect. We had canapes with little wonderful extras between the mains and sourdough bread, all complimentary. The food was absolutely first rate in every way. Then because they knew it was anniversary they surprised us by bringing out a large selection of petit four with a theme of child hood sweets. We chose however many we wanted. Could have had the lot they were so good. Keep up the good work. Will definitely return. Very much recommend if you fancy something special.

Went for lunch with friends, the food was wonderful, waiting staff very attentive. If anything (and this is not a real criticism) lacking a little atmosphere but the service and food more than made up for that. Try the English sparkling wine (not champagne) but you'd be hard pressed to know the difference. Save the best for last and have the cheese board, the chef himself comes to your table and presents many different local cheeses and I swear he knows all the animals and owners personally. A great way to finish a great meal. Go on treat yourselves.

At the start of November I spent 4 days eating at some of York's finest restaurants. Nothing I ate compared to the creativity, presentation - and above all 'taste' of the food served here. My mind was well and truly blown! I've eaten at 1, 2 and 3 star (Alain Ducasse) Michelin restaurants in London and have rarely come across food this good. Each course resembled a work of art in itself. My first visit was on a lunchtime and admittedly I wasn't overly impressed by anything I chose from the lunch menu, the food was good but not exceptional. It did not resemble what I can clearly tell is very good food in the photos here on TA. I decided to take the plunge and go back on an evening, when you're able to order from the A la carte and all I can say is 'wow'! The mixed seafood starter in a light broth and both of the fish main courses I ordered were sublime. Even the dessert disguised as a sushi platter (full marks for creativity here) was fantastic. Have been dreaming of food this good ever since. What can I say...if you live anywhere near York and have not yet visited Arras, get yourself down there before word gets out and tables become scarce. The decor inside is quite odd but don't let that put you off...this is definitely a haven for serious foodies.

The best restaurant in York! The food here is amazing. We had the kitchen menu which was delicious. 5 courses (plus extras) all well worth the price. After your meal the cheese is a must. I have never been anywhere that takes their cheese so seriously. Without a doubt the best meal I have had for a while and by far the best I have had in York (I have lived in the city for years). This is real fine dining done very well. Highly recommend.

Arras is a truly fantastic restaurant - the quality of the food is world class without being "inaccessible" to most people. The tasting menu, given the skill and the quality of the service is to my mind very reasonably priced at £60 per person for a 5 course meal. Yes, that's a bit of a special occasion type price for most people, but this really is a special occasion kind of restaurant.

First visit, and sadly wouldn’t recommend , food five star, service one star, I’ve emailed my review directly to Arras York. I’m being fair at rating three stars! Quick summary of our experience food was outstanding but staff made us feel unwelcome and I believe dinning is all about the whole experience. Arras your chef is amazing but your waiting staff let his food down.

Humble exterior belies the fabulous modern interior. The staff were helpful friendly and disceretly attentive. The food was very tasty. I had a mackerel started and roast pork main, ...and very tasty desert( see photo) Prices were reasonable.

I took my wife to this restaurant for dinner on our 38th anniversary. The restaurant itself is very nice. The waiting staff were both attentive and informative. The food was both extremely tasty and well presented. I particularly enjoyed the cheese board and the presentation of the different cheeses by the chef which helped me in my choice. This was aided by a particularly fine port equivalent from America produced by Quardies. Overall, we both had an extremely enjoyable meal at a reasonable price. I would thoroughly recommend a visit.
