Reviews of Ate O'Clock
R. A.
We booked earlier in the day after looking through the menu and agreeing that it sounded good. Both of us had three courses which were all as good as each other. The atmosphere was warm and inviting with scenary that made you feel like you were sat down a little alleyway in Italy. The food was lovely with decent portion sizes to help leave room for desert
D.
Absolutely stunning food and place.
I requested a boots seat/better table on my reservation as it was a special occasion and the staff made this happen.
The food is stunning, and the wine list is fantastic.
I would happily recommend Ate O'Clock to anybody who is in York looking for a good place to eat with a great atmosphere.

Beautiful venue, recommended by a friend! Amazing food! Had spiced duck breast, was cooked to perfection and passionfruit cheesecake which was just delicious, the most creamy I've had! Mimi our waitress was kind, polite, courteous and just all round great!

Out in York at the weekend and cane across this place by chance. What a wonderful, busy restaurant this is. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, managing to fit us in even though we hadn't booked a table. Let's just say, the starter of Garlic Mushrooms, and the main of Smoked Haddock Fish Cakes were cooked to perfection. And served hot, not necessarily a given, these days.
A very easy five stars to award. I'll certainly be back, next time.

Yes, we would definitely come back.
Greatly welcomed enter.
Great food.
Delicious cocktails
Reasonable prices.
Warm atmosphere
Excellent service

The food, atmosphere & staff were all amazing. 9 of us went on a Friday lunch time & not a single one of us had a problem with the food. THE Place to eat in York. Crème Brûlée was out of this World! We will be back soon.

Extra Surprise In the Chicken Burger! (Not good)
We came as a walk in and got seated with an hour and a half window, which was perfect for us.
We ordered a lovely bottle of Riesling which came very well chilled.
For starters, the fried calamari and black pudding scotch egg. The calamari was so tender and crisp, perfectly cooked. The scotch egg was again very crisp on the outside and we’ll seasoned with gooey centered egg in the middle.
For mains we ordered the spiced duck breast and ate o’clock crispy chicken burger.
Unfortunately the sauce with the duck was room temp, the duck was warm and same with the veg. The potato hash hidden under the veg was hot, and in fact, the best part of the dish! Very tasty.
Now comes to the surprise, the chicken burger had a HAIR in it.
When pointed out to the waiter/I assume front of house manager, he tried to say it was my other halves hair, again and again. Even when we pointed out the hair is sandwiched inside the burger. We notified them straight away. They did bring us a new burger, which was piping hot and very good. Apart from the door stop ‘chips’ as you can see in the picture. Too much potato to crisp ratio.
I wasn’t going to include the lone hair in my review. But seeing as only a £4.20 deduction was the best they could do to compensate, I changed my mind.
Poor customer service

The food was absolutely amazing I would eat it ten times over!
How can u argue for a rib-eye included in the set menu for three quid extra
Staff where lovely and helpful you never had an empty glass
The steak was cooked to perfection!!
10/10

We ate here last night for my daughters birthday. I cannot recommend this place enough
From the cocktails to the varied menu to the brilliant staff. The atmosphere was great, the decor was incredible, great use of the original features and the food was outstanding, 3 courses were had, by some, and each individual meal of the 5 of us was presented well and tasted delicious
S. “. A.
It has a lovely entrance in to the restaurant. The staff was friendly and helpful. I had a good time there. Had a mocktail, soup of the day followed by a medium 10oz rump steak and finished with a crème brûlée. All was really nice. By the time I left the restaurant was packed which shows how good it is. Might come back before my trip back home.
D. L.
We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant for our 20th wedding anniversary. They made our meal extra special. A lovely restaurant with open roof dining during hot weather. A lovely steak meal and a very tasty crème brûlée.
A. P.
Excellent food. Disappointed house chips just like normal chips (although not french fries). I recall previous visit they were like Jenga blocks 😃 Sweet potato mash best I've tasted.
M.
Great little place to go. Looks the part inside. Was quite upmarket with a nice seated area outside. And we managed to get a table without booking. As we were told it was a must. Wich was handy.
The meal. Looked lovely but unfortunately the Steak was very Fatty. And not the best. Unsure what the rest of the menu is like. Drinks were good. And service was also good. Just unfortunate about paying the price for a lower than average steak.
S. S.
Lovely food, great atmosphere. Managed to fit us in with no reservation for the 3 course lunch which was amazing value. The staff are attentive and very lovely ☺❤👍
E. R.
Really enjoyed my visit here, food was absolutely beautiful!! Had starters mains and dessert and thoroughly enjoyed every last bit, only slight down side is that there was a 40 minute wait between starters and mains and we had to ask how long the food would be however these things do happen and the staff were very pleasant and accommodating. Will 100% revisit and would highly recommend 👌 🖤!

Definitely one of the best restaurants in York!
I went with my other half for our anniversary and we came away with amazing service, lovely cozy setting perfect for a romantic meal and good food.
We both had the chicken wrapped in (Serrano ham I think...) with a mushroom sauce and it was gorgeous.
We also were given 2 free glasses of prosecco for our anniversary which was so kind however I can't drink so they politely compensated and gave us a tasty berry mocktail to share; on top of all this they gave us a free black forest brownie!
Definitely going to be one of our regulars, especially for the very reasonable prices too.
J.
Our first meal upon arrival in York. The recently remodeled dining room is cozy and the festive menu served during the holiday season is delicious.
Had the 10oz sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection.
N. R.
Fancy lil place. The onion rings were sinking in Oil which for me personally is very unappetising. Other than that the beef burger was amazing. Ambiance is lovely. Good place for a nice lil date. Well decorated and well maintained. The garlic mash and new potatoes dish was amazing. My friend had vegan burger and it was also lovely according to her. Overall it's a lovely place to visit. Would go again if I'm around York again.
J. F.
We had a 2 course meal and a 3 course meal with calamari, garlic mushrooms, rib eye steak, and creme brulee. The service was very friendly and the meal came quickly and steak cooked exactly as requested. I asked for the wine that best pairs with the steak and malbec was what was brought and that was delicious! Everything was incredibly delicious and exactly as we expected from walking in amd viewing the menu! Fabulous experience!
D. G.
Delicious steaks - prime rib and fillet. The fish is also very good. Lots of space, conveniently located in the city center.
d. a.
Went For an inpromptu meal and found this little gem in York. £16.95 for a two course Set Menu or £19.95 for 3 course. I had The Calamari which was perfect and my partner had the Crayfish . For Mains my Partner Had The Steak which was £1.95 extra and I had The Burger again both dishes were excellent .
The Mocktails were only £4.25 each so pretty good value . The atmosphere was nice and relaxed and the surroundings lovely.
The service from the young man was attentive without been intruding .
5 Stars and well deserved .
k. s.
Very interesting restaurant. Love the entrance and the decor. Cleaning and wait staff were just ok. Food was good, but not great. Prices and portion size were both good.
N. M.
We went to visit York yesterday and came here as recommended by some friends. Their Zombie cocktail was quite sweet and nice. The food was really good, especially, I loved their lamb shank. Most inportant, the service was spot on. We didn’t have any desserts because we were planning to go to another place for that.
A. O.
Had a meal here whilst having a long week end in York. Absolutely loved it. Food was amazing and super tasty. Staff were lovely and very attentive. I had the chilli meat balls for starter and chicken and mushroom risotto. Highly recommend the risotto. There were 6 of us and everyone of us really enjoyed our meal and whole dining experience.
W. P.
We had a wonderful meal there. Professional staff, who showed every care too. Very tasty food and a perfect steak too. Unfortunately it was our last night in York or we would have gone back every night. Dog friendly too
R. M.
Fantastic from start to finish, we were served with 2 glasses of Prosecco ‘on the house’ as it’s our anniversary. The service was fantastic as was our meal, we had the 3 course set menu highly recommended, with our puddings arrived a lovely touch of a chocolate brownie to share and best wishes from the staff for our anniversary, great place, great food, great atmosphere it never fails to impress. Thank you so much for making our day a special one.
G. B. A.
Absolutely amazing find ❤ this is such a cute little place. The food is delicious. We ate off of the 3 course set menu and was so nice. They even brought me out a little brownie with a decorative plate for my Birthday. Thank you we will be back next time we are in York.
Y. E.
Amazing food. Plenty of choice on the set menu and everything tasted really good. Lovely staff and the cocktails are great. Would definitely recommend a visit but you'll need to book.
K. S.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere, friendly staff... will deffo come back... 😍

Fabulous night 🧔🏻♂️👩🏻🙏🏻
Anniversary dinner
First time in Ate O’clock and YOU have to go! This cozy restaurant with amazing food. The Ate O’Clock is to die for. IT WAS FIRE!! The service we received was so amazing and we will definitely be back again. They made us feel welcomed and gave us an amazing experience.
G. W.
Wonderful food, lovely place, great staff, first time eating here, wont be our last. Highly recommended.

We were the last night, as part of our honeymoon break away to York. Honestly, what a lovely little place! The staff were great, polite and accomodating, we felt very welcome. We were given a complimentary glass of bubbles to celebrate our honeymoon and a small desert afterwards.
The food! Oh my goodness the food. It was amazing. Really, really good! We really couldn't fault any if it.
The price of the food and drink is really very good, in fact, we were left wondering why we were not paying more, and thought that we probably would have for the quality and service that is on offer there.
In short, if you're in York and looking for somewhere to eat, get yourself to Ate O'clock. Warm, welcoming, amazing food, great price, and I'm left wanting to go back there.
K. 2.
Really good value in the set menu. Not sure why we only got one menu between two, would be much easier to have one each. Food was lovely, really busy but still received quick and pleasant service. Would definitely pay another visit

Yesterday my partner and I went to walk the Yorkshire Peaks for my birthday and he proposed up top. He’d booked a restaurant back in York elsewhere but cancelled as we were so exhausted post-walk. When I awoke he last minute booked Ate O’Clock. They accommodated and welcomed us with incredible hospitality. He told them about our big day and they brought Prosecco to us on arrival. The meal was really enjoyable and the set munu excellent value. Too big portions for me with the main (seafood tagliatelle) but it was absolutely delicious and my fiancé finished it. The food’s quite hearty and rich. It’s not what I usually go for but what I needed and enjoyed that day. After the meal they brought us celebration platters for my birthday, the engagement and the mountain! It was a thoughtful gesture that meant a lot to us. We’ll always remember that meal.
C. S.
Brilliant restaurant and definitely recommend if visiting York.
Nice setting, great atmosphere and even better food. Loved it.
D. J.
Highly recommend taking a visit here when in York, they have a bar right next door which is great for a wee pre dinner drink! There were delicious and staff were very friendly. Flavia? our waitress was great, very efficient and on the ball! The food was amazing, one of the best peppercorn sauces I've ever had!! No issue with gluten free very accomodating!! They gave us a few extra wee treats for our anniversary which really added to the experience!
A. B.
Our first visit and definitely not our last.
Staff very polite, knowledge, friendly and prompt with our requests.
We had the 3 course set meal.
Chicken pate , garlic mushrooms
Sirloin steak, chicken Cesar salad
Lemon cheese cake , sticky toffee pudding.
Merlot red wine and a G & T
We enjoyed every bit of it.
My steak was cooked exactly as I asked 'medium rare' and one of the best steaks I've had in years.
Keep up the good work , we'll definitely be back next time we visit.
R. W.
Our absolute favourite place to visit in York when were here, the staff are lovely and can't do enough to help you, the atmosphere is so warm and welcoming and most importantly the food is unbelievable! We have tried a few different dishes and the steak is a MUST HAVE! Washed down with a few beautifully made cocktails! We visit every time we come and always reccomend to family and friends!
K. o.
Great place to grab a bite to eat. Lots to choose from and tasted amazing. Drinks were fantastic and the team were really friendly
A. S.
Medium prices, very tasty food, good size of meal, nice cocktails 🍸! Friendly staff service. We got our meals quick even if that was on peak hours Friday night. Pleasant overall experience, I would recommend this place.
B. O.
Came here without a booking, staff managed to get us a table. 10/10 customer service. This was the nicest meal we have had for a long time. Would definitely recommend if you’re visiting york! Thanks!
D. G.
Atmosphere and surroundings lovely, beautiful and stunning.
Staff helpful, drinks were reasonably priced. We were in the Social8 bar next-door which Is part of Ate O'clock.
I had the Sirloin steak and hands down that is the best steak meal I have ever had. My mum had the chicken wrapped in serano ham but said her meat was very dry, overcooked.
Despite this every thing else and my meal excelled so I'm still giving 5 stars.
S. S.
Lovely restaurant, but recommend booking a table as it's busy!
Had the chicken liver pate to start - good but not enough bread.
The pulled pork scotch egg was delicious, plenty of sauce and side salad was nice too.
We both had the lamb main course. Meat was falling off the bone and the mash and veg were spot on. LOTS of jus too which was fab.
Only complaint we'd have was that it was a bit too warm in the main restaurant area, otherwise a prefect evening.
I. &. B. A.
We had a fabulous meal! So glad we booked in advance. We had a tasteful meal served by very attentive staff. Nothing was too much. Brilliant ambience! Would highly recommend! We had the chateaubriand steak for two. More than enough for two.
C. P.
Delicious. We had the set menus and picked the steaks from it. Steaks were cooked to perfection and the peppercorn sauce was the best I've had. Flavia our waitress was brilliant and she made sure our anniversary was extra special with a few surprises. Many thanks!
A. A.
Every time this place delivers! The food is amazing and the service is brilliant. Cocktails are very tasty too - nicest pina colada I've ever had.
Would very much recommend the rump steak on the set menu - it doesn't disappoint!
Make sure you book ahead as when the races are on and just in general this place can fill out pretty quickly - else get there before 5 or after 8pm to be in with a chance.

Very cute alleyway upto the seating area. All lit up with twinkly lights. Diverse menu with something for everyone. The staff are friendly and welcoming. We sat outside quite near the back. Was a tad on the tight side, but cosy. The food came out promptly and was to a very good standard. The cocktail menu is worth checking out also! I will definitely recommend to others, and will visit again on a return journey to York.
A. C.
I love this place cool trendy and the food is lovely thank you came for my birthday with the hubby and my daughter thank you ♥️
A. K.
Visited this restaurant and what a find! It's a lovely place, the staff are welcoming and the food was great. The set menu is good value, two courses for £16-95. I had the pate followed by the haddock fishcake with tartare sauce, fries and green leaves. My friend had the calamari followed by the halloumi burger. The food along with the amazing cocktail list made it a lovely afternoon out and a place we'll definitely revisit
R.
Overcooked fish in a bland sauce and salty risotto. Disappointing from a highly rated restaurant. Staff were friendly and efficient and it's quite a nice place to sit and relax. Maybe we were unlucky with our food choices.
D. P.
Had a fantastic meal tonight and our waitress Jade was amazing, telling us all about the development of the restaurant as well as serving us lovely drinks and delicious food. Would definitely recommend.
D. C.
Oh my god such a great restaurant. The food was sublime, ambience was perfect and service impeccable. Loved the music, every song was fab. Waitresses were so professional and dressed well. Lovely courtyard din8ng. Our Chateaubriand was to perfection. Great cheese board. Coming back here definitely!!
X. K.
What a wonderful find! Stumbled across this gem of a restaurant on a visit to York.
Menu had so much variety of vegetarian options. The portions were plentiful.
Staff were extremely attentive.
Wonderful atmosphere and restaurant was quirky decorated!
Would highly recommend and would most certainly return if ever visiting York again.
Well done Ate o'clock 👏 ✔ 👍
N. K.
Lovely meal in this tastefully decorated restaurant. I had beetroot and pear risotto (always like to find something different) and my partner had cod on squid ink risotto with roasted cauliflower- yum! We also had kale with chilli & peanuts. The Staff were lovely and looked after us well. We didn’t feel squeezed in as in some popular restaurants and weren’t rushed. I would have liked to have been able to get a glass of champagne , however the whispering angel rose was great and, in hindsight, since we finished the night in their bar next door, I should have just bought the bottle of champagne ! Cheeseboard was huge and I loved the glasses the port was served in. Perfect find for our one night in York. 😃
T. E.
Beautiful place in the heart of York food was lovely so was the staff would highly recommend 😋

Lovely staff, excellent food and the set menu is very reasonable for York. I would definitely eat here again.

Im sorry I didn't expand on my review. I'm editing to add my experience.
Food was fantastic, really enjoyable and very reasonably priced. Been going to places I normally wouldn't as looking for places for when my friend visits. But Ate O'Clock needs to be on my list to visit for my own benefit. The decor and staff are lovely, the food, divine. Looking forward to being my best friend and her husband as well as just coming with my wife.
G. N.
A great place to relax and enjoy an evening meal. The food was delicious and the staff go the extra mile to provide good customer service. My advice would be to book a table before hand because this place is really busy.
I was also given a free drink and desert because it was my anniversary 👍🏼.
N.
Located in the middle of the city this place is beautiful. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and pay attention to detail. Advised them I was gluten free and was given a separate menu. The options on the menu were vast and honestly some of the best in York. The food was amazing it came out hot and fresh and gluten free indicated. The cocktails were delightful and everything was reasonably priced. Would absolutely return
M. D.
From the minute you walk in, friendly reception lady, prompt service, good ambience. ... the food!!! Perfect, uncomplicated loved dishes cooked to perfection. Plenty to eat served promptly and efficiently. When eating out is a treat, ate o clock ticked all the boxes!!
Loved it, would highly recommend 😘
A. M.
Booked using the Opentable app, as we were visiting York for the weekend. We only had one course, my partner had lamb shank and I had fillet steak with salad. Absolutely can't fault the meal as it was beautiful.
The only reason for the 4 stars not 5 is due to the very sullen waitress who served us. We encountered 4 members of staff 3/4 were excellent but can't help feeling our waitress just didn't like the look of us, as it seemed she was only that way with us.
All other staff were lovely, toilets were clean and tidy and we would certainly return.
There was an optional 10% tip applied to the bill which we certainly would not have given our waitress but the other 3 staff were delightful, so we hope tips get shared.
Fabulous gem of a venue with delicious food. We would certainly return....and if we had the same waitress again...maybe we could win her over :-).
A. C.
Had a lovely meal at Ate O'Clock. Nice selection on the menu. Both my wife and I enjoyed our mains and thoroughly enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding!
Would recommend a visit here if your passing by.
S. B.
Very nice place, clean and well presented. Staff very friendly and helpful. Easy to miss the entrance on the street. Would definitely go again.
K. D.
Lovely outside space. We sat inside the small dining room. It shares a space either the bar/baby club next door, so every time a staff member opened the connecting door the room was flooded with loud dance music. Made having a conversation over dinner difficult. The food was nice, and the staff were lovely. Would recommend going to eat there before the baby club starts next door.
A. W.
We booked a table for 2pm but had a short wait to be seated. We were given complimentary drinks and made comfortable. The service was impeccable. Staff courteous and friendly. Superb food , relaxed ambience and fantastic all round service x will be returning asap
R. C.
We booked on short notice for our anniversary dinner and also baby moon. With so many options around York it was hard to decide especially with a picky 30 week pregnant wife!
However we couldn't of been happier with our choice, on arrival we got a complimentary drink to celebrate and the team even made sure my wife's was non alcoholic.
My wife opted for the halloumi starter which was possibly the best either of us has ever had.
For mains I had lamb shank which was very tender and the veg was also nicely done. My wife had pesto linguine which she also really enjoyed.
We also got given a piece of sticky toffee pudding with happy anniversary written on the plate which was a nice touch.
Overall the food was really nice and experience also brilliant.
Thank you all! On our next visit to York we will definitely be coming back!
D. W.
We were greeted by a friendly welcome, shown to the table, the atmosphere was fab, we were asked what we would like to drink, drinks came fast then we ordered, we both went for the belly pork. Wow just wow, the black pudding mash was delicious, the pork belly just melted in the mouth, and the carrots were cooked to perfection. For afters I had the creme brulee which was creamy and so light, my friend has the lemon trio which were absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back, highly recommend
N. M.
Amazing meal. The presentation of the meal was excellent. Of course, the taste was perfect👌
J. K.
Tasty food. Nice cocktails. Covid safe.polite staff. Expected more on my plate for the prices you pay!. As you can see below.

Our second visit to this 1st class restaurant. Once again enjoyed the meal .Always cooked beautifully. We had the 3 course priced menu .Excellent. Good Advice PRE BOOK YOUR TABLE. Especially this time of year
E. W.
What a place , four of us dined and every dish we ordered was fantastic from the starters to the mains and puddings, everyone in our party tasted each others dish plenty of comments though out the meal try this, try this,
We all agreed that it was now our favourite restaurant and the best food, service
And ambience ,a place we shall visit many times in the future. Edw& party

Nice place. Staff seemed friendly. Very family friendly. Good service. Good deals on meals
L.
We visited here during the government help out by eating out 50% off scheme and this has been our absolute favourite by far.
The staff were very welcoming, friendly and attentive throughout our visit.
Myself and my partner went for the set menu (which is included in the scheme by the way!)
I went for the 10z rump steak and peppercorn sauce. I asked for my steak to be cooked medium rare. If I’m being very picky, this was closer to rare however, the steak was simply amazing and the peppercorn sauce complimented the dish perfectly. (I’ve lost count the amount of times the peppercorn sauce has completely overpowered the dish!)
My partner had the burger, this was well seasoned and held the juice well without spilling all over the plate, very well cooked.
Lastly, we both had the sticky toffee pudding. This was packed full of flavour and rounded the meal off perfectly.
We highly recommend Ate O’clock and judging by how busy the restaurant was, so does the rest of York. We will definitely be returning. Thank you so much for making our evening so amazing.
A. J.
Went to try this restaurant with my boyfriend for our anniversary, the atmosphere is great, the food was delicious and our server was really lovely. Since they knew it was our anniversary they even gave us a little dessert and some drinks to celebrate it was really sweet.
B. T.
Went in a few weeks ago with mates, accommodating & fulfilling service from start to finish! Tasty set menu, wide range of drinks, reasonably priced - but the best bit is the atmosphere, so cool & social. Would love to go again, recommend!
A. A.
Food was amazing and the staff were quick to take our order and deliver food/drinks. We were seated and had 3 meals and drinks in just over an hour. I particularly recommend the seafood tagliatelle - it was divine! (Other half feels the same way about the pork belly)
S. H.
Well where do I start.
If you are going to york I strongly advise to book a table at this fantastic restaurant 😀.
The staff are so friendly the music playing made me feel as if I was abroad.
Now for the food. I can honestly say I have never put a steak into my mouth and had my whole life flash infront of me taking me back to all my best memories. Perfectly cooked mouth watering didn't want it to end.
The starter was also lovely which was mushrooms with chiabatta.
The desert was out of this world creme brulle went down a treat.
The cocktails were perfectly made.
Now the price the only thing I could have a opinion on and that is because I wish I would have paid more because it was worth every penny. I have been to steak restaurants across the UK and paid top dollar and not been Impressed.
But the steak alone was worth every penny and more.
I will be returning in the future and recomending the restaurant to all friends and family.
Thank you
Steve and Laura

We had a lovely evening at Ate o’clock recently. It’s been a good 10 years since last visited. It has changed quite a bit that I couldn’t recognise the interior. We came with a group of ladies from the local WI. The staff were friendly and informative. They explained the different types of menus on offer. Then proceeded to take our drink choices. There’s so many dishes to choose from. We all opted for the set dinner; 2 courses for £14.95 or 3 courses for £17.95 (I think!). We all decided on 2 courses. Some chose starters whilst other had dessert instead. The food was well presented and tasted fresh and delicious! We commented that we would return again to try the other dishes. It’s definitely value for money! The atmosphere was good too and surprisingly busy for a weekday evening! All in all, it was a good night!!

An Absolutely Fabulous Meal, Friendly Staff a must visit when Visiting York... Set Menu really good Value for money... Will definitely recommend and definitely be coming back. Husband had said it's the Best Burger he's ever had!
P. S.
Visited for first time tonight with wife daughter and grandson. The meal was really good. We will definitely go back. Recommend this restaurant to all

Absolutely spot on.
Food excellent, atmosphere is very nice, surroundings beautiful, service superb and what tops it are the friendly helpful staff.
If you are in York for a visit make sure you visit here.

A group of us came here for my staff Christmas party and I could not recommend this place enough the staff were very attentive even though it was a busy Saturday night the food was amazing and the service was fast! Will be returning again 5 start service in every department ❤️X

Visiting York for my birthday and we couldn't decide on what to eat. My partner spotted this little gem during the day and mentioned it as a possibility. Their menu is varied and not badly priced at all. The food was absolutely amazing. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere was overall delightful for a nice evening meal. I was surprised to see they have a children's menu and we noted a discussion about allergies between staff who triple checked the allergen free food with the order and the kitchen. Wonderful to see such consideration going into allergies. The detail in the presentation of the food was beautiful too. We have recommended to family and will be back in the future.

This visually is a lovely place to visit and the menu looked good (even though some items seemed relatively expensive) we were in pretty much just after opening time and there was 5 waiting staff that I'd seen and the restaurant was fairly empty, that being said I had to flag down a member of staff just to order a drink. We made our choices and again a member of staff had to be called over to take our order of main and desert at the same time. The main course was nice enough with the portion being quite a good size. We had waited 20 minutes for the empty plates to be cleared another 30 for the desert spoons to come out with yet another 15 for the desert (my wife had to send hers back as the hero of the desert was missing). The food itself was really nice but then another shadow was cast, I asked for the bill and the member of staff added an optional 10% tip without first mentioning it so because of the long waiting times I refused to pay it. My payment card was accepted I said thank you and the staff member gave me a look and just walked away. Not the lasting impression we would expect the management would want us to be left with.

Been a while since we visited. 6 of us last night. Great service and food. Staff are top notch. Thanks. Hope to be back soon. E and J. York
J. C. Y.
Tucked away down an alleyway this is a gem of a place. Thank Goodness we had made a reservation for a pre -theatre meal.
We had a bit of a wait to be served but it was very busy.
Lots of ambience and Saturday night atmosphere, Ate O' Clock' did not disappoint. We chose the three course set menu. My Fried Halloumi was substantial, the fish and chips was basic but tasty and the creme brulee delicious.
Very reasonable prices for an eaterie in a prime location.
The staff were warm and friendly and the maitre d' buzzed around keeping everyone happy.
I would definitely return. I just wish the Fish Finger Sandwich was on the evening menu!
L. O. B.
Top notch food and service. Drinks were great to!
M. T.
Lovely place....and a lot larger than expected as its divided into several areas, good staff ....lovely food ...black pudding scotch egg is beautiful....Good cocktails so the wife says .....re visit is a must.
E. C.
Excellent food, and excellent cocktails. Set menu has a great range of choices and very good value. Service was excellent, had a very good experience and will definitely be revisiting
D.
Lovely early Christmas present 🎁
Definitely a gorgeous menu and they are not shy in the carved meat.
Lovely food and would recommend to anyone
A. C.
Went with friends for Christmas meal it was lovely. Service was brilliant and food was nice. Good value for money.
S.
Much potential for this querky little restaurant. Staff totally unaware of their own menu. When we asked about the lunch menu advertised outside we were told there wasn't one and the only menu was the one we were given...... only for her to change her mind 5 mins later and bring us the lunch menu with an apology.
C. K.
Really cute place, fab setup and xmas decorations plus the heaters were much appreciated on one of the coldest days of the year! Yummy halloumi burger too!
E. H.
I hope this place has improved since its refurbishment. When I went with friends in May to celebrate my birthday they wouldn't let us sit inside only in the courtyard.
I.
Amazing restaurant, brilliant food and welcoming staff. It's such a unique looking place and the food is worth the money. Will be returning when in York again.
V. l. w.
We ordered set lunch but they made us easily 30mins to wait for our main. Steak is so hard like chicken breast where I want it to be medium rare. Soup of the day & crayfish cocktail is good. Steep staircase if u wanna use e washroom.
S. C.
Lovely restaurant, quick service and nice atmosphere. Food was lovely
J. L.
Very good food. Nice interior.
The only problem was to sit and stand of the table. I'm rather tall and can't easy sit.
C. C.
Great food, the staff were accommodating considering we didn't book, the cocktails are really good..😉.. highly recommend.
L. D.
Went for our Anniversary, fantastic well presented, to start had the Pulled Pork Scotch Egg, and Husband had The BBQ Chicken Wing, both full of flovour and cooked to perfection, for mains we had Lamb Shank, and Belly Pork, the Belly Pork came with Black Pudding & Potato Bon-Bons which were fabulous (going to have a go at recreating them). As it was our anniversary we had a complimentary glass of Prosecco and mini sharing pudding.
K. L.
Food was gorgeous. The set menu was great value, and service was prompt without being intrusive.
R. W.
Tasty food, fine service, but most importantly, a completely separate gluten free menu (with plenty of choice, including burgers).
P. W.
I'd highly recommend this spot for evening food, the burgers were great and the cheesecake was amazing. The only down for me was the chips were not fantastic, but I may be a bit fussy.
r.
Cozy place with great food and service. Great offers for cocktails and gins. Meat 🥩 is top quality! Had a fantastic night and Catherine is a lovely lady who took care of us all evening
S. H.
Lovely evening at Ate O'Clock, great food, great service. Would highly recommend. 3 course meal from set menu £17.95 or 2 courses for £14.95.
M.
Had a nice meal here. Being honest the table we sat at was not great, the way the restaurant was laid out we sat 'outside' (which is completely waterproof), however it was really cold sitting here, as didn't realise it was technically outside, however will not see this as their fault as we were given the option to sit inside. I opted for the 3 course set menu which was excellent value. For starters was calamari, which was delicious and served with lovely garlic mayo. Main was a chicken burger, which was tasty. My favourite was dessert which was a delicious sticky toffe pudding, with a generous helping of sauce. Service was good, we had a tour booked and when dessert was taking a while and we chased up dessert, and they managed to sort it out quickly. Overall, a good meal.
S. P.
Lovely staff n food but were I sat it was cold near stairs was better outside with heating on
S. L.
Went here first night in York. Very relaxed place for food and cocktails. Staff were all great. Lovely atmosphere. Will definitely go again if back in York.
S. W.
I had duck breast and my husband had the mussels and it was all delicious. Nice seating outside. With partial cover (that could be closed if it began to rain). Staff have the level of attention just right. Not in your face, but not leaving you waiting ages to order. Prices are reasonable. We would definitely go back.
M. C.
Lovely atmosphere, great staff and lovely food, even brought me a little bit of brownie out with a candle and a Happy Birthday message 😀
S. K.
We came here for our anniversary dinner and it was amazing! We were give a glass of prosecco upon arrival and wished a happy anniversary. The staff were excellent and made us feel welcomed. The food was reasonably priced and tasted wonderful. The rump steak was cooked perfectly and the burger was amazing. Good prices, beautiful atmosphere and amazing staff!
I would 100% recommend Ate O’clock.
P. D.
As others have said, the starters come out almost before you've ordered them. They're good though, I had deep fried camembert. Plenty of staff, so service is excellent. The guest wine was good value. Mussels were plentiful in a lovely sauce and the sticky toffee pudding had a delicious butterscotch sauce. 3 course set menu for two, a couple of lovely cocktails and a bottle of wine for £75. Well worth it.
S. W.
We returned to York where we had got engaged 22 and half years before for our 20th wedding anniversary.
We were really hoping for a enjoyable evening with great food in an independent venue in York. We were overjoyed that we chose the Ate O'Clock.
On our arrival we shown a lovely table and Tessa our lovely waitress, looked after us so well and our anniversary was made special as a result.
An excellent drinks menu, we chose wine although the cocktails look great, and the food was absolutely superb.
We were presented with an anniversary plate at the end of the meal which was so lovely and showed a venue that really cares about it's customers.
Wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend to all and we will definitely return if we get to York again.
Thank you Tessa, and everyone who looked after us at the Ate O'Clock, we really appreciated it.
T. C.
Food was tasty and did not take long to arrive. Warm welcome from hosts and took time to chat. Prices are reasonable. Good choice of dishes, with a flexible menu and creative food combinations. Happy with our choice of restaurant.
D. F.
All I can say is wow. The staff as so friendly, the food is tasty and the venue is unique. Defiantly book as this place is full most nights.
C. B.
Hadn't booked but the staff we're very accommodating and found us a table. Glad they did as we had a lovely meal. We will definitely be dining thee again.
N. D.
Great place, staff very helpful and friendly. Had a drink in the bar next door while waiting for a table after just turning up, had to wait 20 minutes for a table to become free, which was great in the circumstances. Food was lovely, service excellent. Would make it my first choice when visiting York again.
W. L.
Service was spotty. Food was good, not great. Would have loved a chance to order desert.
K. A.
Had a very tasty late lunch. Food amazing, staff are friendly & helpful. It's a must visit!
C. S.
I dont normally write reviews however we really enjoyed our first experience here. The food was delicious, very reasonably priced for how nice it was. Service was quick and the restaurant is beautifully located. The desserts especially were our favourite! Will definitely be coming again soon.
I. T.
Really nice little restaurant, tucked away up a yard. Great food and great service, definitely worth a visit.
b. s.
Food excellent, starters were deep fried brie, and I had pulled pork scotch egg, gorgeous. Mains were Gressingham duck, and a Ate in one beef burger. Absolutely delicious, very nice and friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Definitely visit again
S. C.
Visited on a Thursday evening, having pre-booked.
Very nice venue, great food quick and professional staff. The food was lovely.
l. s.
The food and drink here is exceptional and reasonably priced will be coming here more regularly
C. S.
First time visiting again after about 6 years and was a little disappointed. Food wasn't as good as I recalled and lemon trio pudding tasted too artificial rather than zesty or fresh. Shame the food isn't as good as the decor.
s. S.
Food was fantastic, love how they have converted a hally way into a seating area, brilliant idea.staff fantastic.loved everything about this place and not expensive
S. M.
Absolutely gorgeous meals ..really tasty and very well presented will definitely go back when in york again
S. M.
Lovely looking place food average spicy meatballs plenty but not spicy. Wine expensive. Asked for large glass to go with my cheese board £6.95!!
S. S.
Such an amazing hidden gem! Delightful staff, really attentive and eager to please! I had a 10oz sirloin steak and it was exceptional! And really not expensive at all! The bill for two was rather lower than expected and so meant leaving £10 tip wasn't regrettable!
A true 5 star eatery!!
(Could do with a it of music on the terrace) ;)
B. P.
Excellent cocktails, great staff, delicious food. Owners please praise your staff for an excellent experience.
M. S.
Absolutely amazing meal. Stunning restaurant.
Great service..very friendly staff..would reccomend. We will return..
L. C.
Great food, good value, friendly staff and an unexpected birthday bonus. A lovely place.
S. F.
We had a loverly meal, cheese board was excellent
R. N. R.
This is a very nice, friendly venue, and the food was top notch.
J.
First visit to Ate O’Clock after recently moving to the area and walking past during lockdown.
Really friendly welcome on arrival by all staff members and were quickly sat at a table. I went for the Sirloin steak which was delicious and my wife went for the 2 course deal and she thought hers was great too.
Couldn’t fault this place at all and will certainly be heading back soon. Thanks very much
J. S.
Delicious food! The place is very cozy and the service is great! Highly recommend it and I will definitely go back!
K. P.
It was ok , I had the lamb which I thought was expensive for what I got . A small lamb shank on a bed of mashed potato with just two carrots and a spoon full of peas. Dont get me wrong it was nice just a little underwhelmed.
M. J.
Food was great and the staff was amazing
K. M.
Very nice meal, service was ok and food was tasty. Not much else to say, not spectacular but not bad either. Just good :)
K.
This place has fantastic food. Definitely. The pulled pork scotched egg is amazing. But in terms of ambiance, service and wine selection (only 5 available by the glass), if you have limited time, I would suggest that there are better places to visit in York
E. L.
Found this little gem whilst on holiday in York. I opted for chicken burger and biscoff cheesecake. Very tasty. Would recommend
J. D.
The greeter couldn't pronounce my surname (it's not a hard one), so handed me over as Jonathon Something. The adjoining bar had the music blasting for all 6 of it's guests which meant it was too loud to have a conversation over the table. Won't be going back.
F. “. M.
Absolutely AMAZING food! Such a beautiful place! Lovely atmosphere, lovely deco and great staff. 100% recommend! We went for the set menu, the garlic mushrooms for starters was probably the best I've ever had!! My boyfriends steak was amazing. Only downside for me were the fries, they were too skinny to be that hard. Otherwise everything was spot on!
J. H.
Had a family meal, the service was pretty good, most of the staff were friendly and accommodating. Most of the food was excellent, very tasty, well presented and good portion sizes. One of us had the mussels which were a bit small and not overly flavoursome, but everything else was pretty good. Great location, lovely environment and lots of tables!
C. A.
5* and cannot recommend this place enough!! First time customers and mentioned it was our anniversary in the booking notes....well they gave us a fantastic table with complimentary drinks on arrival, the staff were friendly and polite with food and drink orders coming very quickly. (The pulled pork scotched egg was the best I've ever had) after our starters and mains they gave us a complimentary pudding to share and wished us a happy anniversary! When paying the bill I had to request to add the service charge as she didn't put it on the machine to begin with (unlike most places which seem to now think tipping is mandatory.) loved every minute and every bite, will definitely be back
M. A.
Beautiful place. Staff were very friendly. The starters 10/10. However my Risotto was probably one of the worst ones I’ve ever tried. Absolutely tasteless!!! I don’t like to complain at restaurants, because I know how hard they work. I only mentioned that it was a little bit bland, but that I fixed it with the table salt. Well!!! Let me tell you. They went over and beyond to make up for it. After dinner, they moved us to the bar area and a complimentary wine and cheese board was waiting for us. They treated like princesses. Thank you to the Manager and the staff. It is the little things that count. Left there feeling like a valued customer. 3 stars for the overall meal and and 1 star for the kindness.
M. C.
We're here a few years ago and was so impressed with food and service so decided to try it again. Food was fantastic and service every bit as good as previous visit. Going home on Thursday but plan another visit before we head off.
A. M.
Lovely meal, very quick service and staff were very friendly, cocktail menu had a great selection
A. S.
We ate here on a cold quiet Thursday. But the reception was warm and the atmosphere was very welcoming. The fixed price menu was great with only a small surcharge for Steak. The calamari was really enjoyable and the Steak was cooked in a French style. The crème brûlée was good as an end to the meal. Overall great food and good service.
A. R.
We booked here while we were having a weekend away for our wedding anniversary. We were greeted by a complimentary drink of champagne. Our mains came very quickly and were beautiful. The desserts were just as nice. Very impressed and can't recommend this restaurant enough. Just a shame we live so far away. Made our anniversary very special, so thank you to all the staff x
M. S.
We were a family of 14 so booked in advance. Really good service and food was excellent catered for all our needs, a nice childrens menu and Gluten Free options. Very relaxed and comfortable for a party aged between 67 and 3. Cocktails are delicious.
S. T.
Amazing food and cocktail selection. The slow cooked belly pork was by far the best I have had. Will definitely be back on my next visit to York.
A.
The atmosphere is very nice. I ordered the lamb chunk and it was good 👍🏻
J. D.
Very very beautiful ambiance and mind blowing food
T. F.
Gorgeous restaurant. Eat inside or out in the heated covered courtyard. Fabulous menu and a great specials board. Get lucky and buy 2 4 1 cocktails
e. h.
Fabulous anniversary meal, great food and service made all the more enjoyable with some special touches - free glasses of prosecco and a 'happy anniversary' dessert
n. j.
disappointed with the bill
we sat in the bar and had a bottle of wine which we paid for before going into the restaurant
The food was excellent
then you tried to bill us for the wine again and then £6 for service charge
that annoyed me
so please be aware of this
we have been before so this was very disappointing
B. L.
Well priced set menu, great food and friendly staff.
G. G.
Excellent food, well priced , intimate atmosphere and well stocked cellar.
S. H.
Lovely food and a great cozy atmosphere. The staff working there are very friendly and helpful.
P. B.
Really brill, never booked but went out their way to fit us in, great food and service, definitely worth booking
A.
A very pleasant meal, set menu 2 courses 16.95, then any add ons. Quite tightly packed in, with screens everywhere. Service good. Tucked down a lit alleyway.
M.
Excellent atmosphere, staff professional, friendly and efficient. Service and food excellent. Highly recommended.
R. M.
We dined last night and as usual the welcome was warm and friendly, giving us a summary of the restaurant. The wine list is currently one of my favourites of the restaurants in York I frequent, especially the Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Les Puits Neuf of the red wines currently available. The Seared Calf Liver and Braised Lamb Shank was presented and cooked to the usual high standards.
We had desert, there is always a good selection to reward even the sweetest of palettes.
Thank you for a pleasant evening.
L. B.
Good as always nice food, friendly staff and quirky decor
D. H.
Out for our 25th Anniversary. So nice steak cooked to perfection. Also staff are lovely.
a. S.
Had a lovely birthday meal every thing was lovely and the young girls serving us were brilliant 👏 👌 😀
L. D.
Enjoyed a beautiful meal for our engagement. The food and staff were first class. Couldn't have done more for us and made our night so special. Would highly recommend!!!
H. C.
The food was lovely. Halloumi burger and steak. The steak was cooked just as we wanted. Staff were very good. Only “complaint” is that there aren’t loads of drink options unless you want wine. Nothing on draft so just expensive beer bottles. But if you’re in the mood for great food and wine then I would definitely recommend here!
K. K.
Popped in at midday for lunch on a Thursday. Busier than expected which confirmed the popularity of the venue. Service was very good, attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. Food was prepared to a high standard and tasted great. Would recommend a visit.
s. h.
Really nice setting, very accommodating as we hadn't booked but fitted us in. Only point I'd mention is the draft of cold air when the door opens. A double door or something to stop this would make it more comfortable as lots of people, including us, open door to ask if any tables. Good service. Reasonable prices.
M. P.
Arrived with no booking and were seated even though it was busy. Menu is interesting and our choices were well cooked, generous portions and arrived quickly. Atmosphere is good too.
E. N.
Really lovely place, but my mussels were overcooked and really heavy on the cream. The lovely Anna helped us by removing them from the bill after taking them back to the kitchen. She wasn't overly apologetic and thanked me for the feedback in a very professional manner. Top marks
Couldn't give 5 stars, as I found the service a little slow and inattentive. Maybe introduce service charge in the bill?
J. T.
Fantastic food and atmosphere. waitress was alert and knew her stuff. All in all a wonderful dinning experience.
B.
It's an okay place to eat. The homemade bread and houmous and garlic prawns were delicious. However the fish finger and club sandwiches were disappointing. Very hard bread to eat and the chips are tiny bits of nothing! Very crunchy and overcooked. Slow service but polite. I'm not sure I'll be back but the starters were lovely.
A. T.
Lovely food and great atmosphere!
V. F.
Lovely place, food was excellent and cocktails 2 for £8!!!
D. C.
Unique restaurant, hidden away. Menus are very good. Generous servings. Good quality food. Well cooked.
Set menu is great value, and a good menu choice.
Friendly staff.
Only criticism is that the cutlery was forgotten on a couple of occasions between courses, but no biggy, they soon addressed this with no fuss.
Overall, pleasant place, good food, good value, nice staff.
C. L.
Great food .The staff are amazing and atmosphere was too. Highly recommend and will be going back again when we come back to visit.
A. G.
Absolutely one of the best places to eat on York. All courses looked & tasted amazing. Set menu, great choice & price. Lovely ambience, we had a wonderful evening. Thank you
J. M.
A nice restaurant tucked away near Coppergate in York. Good menu choice, the Sunday lunch was delish.
C. R.
Went in for our anniversary and had the best experience. As we sat down, we received complimentary drinks for the occasion. The steaks were cooked just as we like it, and even the salad was just perfect. Our server, Silvia (I hope that is how you spell her name!) was amazing all night long, making us feel welcome and making sure we had everything we needed. Overall a great experience which was coupled with a very (and unexpected!) amazing brownie on a plate with an inscription for our special anniversary. Would love to come back soon.
J. T.
Lovely set meal. Two rump steaks and a bottle of house red for £34. Very pleasant staff too. Would definitely return.
B. L.
Very nice food very reasonable prices. X
T. K.
Gorgeous food and lovely stuff. Lovely little suprise for my friends birthday desert.
Will definitely be back!
J. M.
A lovely restaurant. Great food and service. And I thought it was a nice gesture when they brought a little cake and candle out for my friends birthday. My only complaint is that the outside, undercover decking is slippy. My friend slipped on the way in and I went flying on the way out. Ladies wear sensible shoes because it's only a matter of time before someone breaks a leg!
M. R.
Second time we have eaten here and still as good. Table booked for 1.30pm but we were a bit early 1.10pm. No problem even though place was very busy. We opted for the set menu 3 courses for £19.99. We had starters of meatballs in sauce, deep fried bri with cranberry sauce, and crawfish cocktail. All very nice, well presented and good portion size. Mains were seafood tagliatelle, chicken and mushroom pasta and chicken in lemon sauce( my granddaughter had this dish and loved it). Again portion sizes were good and we all enjoyed our meals. Pudding we had was sticky toffee pudding and it was great! Never had one as tasty as this one, just as good second time around. All in all a lovely lunch. I must add that we were in York to lay flowers were my mum's ashes were buried under windows of Cathedral. It was my mum's birthday on 30/10/21 and we try to get to put flowers for her on or near her date. The restaurant knew we were there to celebrate her day and produced at the end of our meal a plate with chocolate writing of Happy Birthday on next to a square of chocolate brownie with a swirl of fresh cream and some mixed berries. What a lovely thoughtful thing to do, thank you again staff.
T. B.
Wonderful food in a relaxed atmosphere, will definitely return
M. H.
Another quirky but good restaurant just off the Shambles, we just had starters and a drink but it was delicious. Food is of a high standard in York generally and this was on the list
J. W.
Amazing food lovely ambient place to eat x fab service
K. M.
In York for our honeymoon and we found this restaurant on our 3rd night. We hadn’t booked a table but the staff accommodated us. Can not fault it at all. Staff are very friendly, place is immaculate, food is delicious! Quick service, food warm and great portion sizes.
S. D.
We had two very delicious desserts and the waiters were very friendly, too. Even we arrived late.
S. S.
I took my wife here for her 50th birthday and she absolutely loved it. It is a lovely place to eat the staff were amazing and at the end even bought my wife out some cake for her birthday which I thought was really kind of them to do so. I would recommend this place to anybody I don't think you'd be disappointed. Will definitely be eating here again on our next trip to York. Fantastic team keep up the good work
D. D.
21st birthday meal, food was lovely and service was very good
R. I.
Excellent service, delicious food & outstanding cocktails. The best restaurant experience in York!
A. M.
My wife and I went to Ate O Clock last night for a belated wedding anniversary meal. From start to finish, everything was fantastic! The service on arrival was smooth and our table was ready despite us arriving a few minutes early. The cocktails were delicious and the food was outstanding! I particularly recommend the chateaubriand - it was cooked to perfection and even my wife, who doesn't usually have steak, said she loved it. A great choice of wines and all very reasonably priced. All of the staff were very attentive and everything was perfect. Even with the outside seating at present, Ate O Clock have worked wonders with this, with the various outside heating and individual screens to ensure safety. We've been here before and will definitely be coming back again!! Well done to the staff and owners for another wonderful experience.
S. R.
Stumbled across this little gem whilst visiting York for long weekend. Varied menu with lots of choices. Chose rib eye steak from set menu, excellent value for money. Food nicely presented, service very efficient & staff made us feel welcomed. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
M. W.
Food was lovely, staff very friendly and cocktails were really nice 😄
P. !.
A superb local restaurant with good quality food a good atmosphere and definitely worth visiting.
Prices are affordable and reasonable
A. R.
We stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant when we briefly visited York and tried to find a nice place for dinner - we were blown away. Their cocktails are reasonably priced and really tasty. Good value for food and it was also delicious. Topped with really friendly staff, this restaurant should definitely be a go-to spot when in York :)
A. C.
Visited twice. Lovely place to say that you can take your dog. Sunday dinner was awesome. Didn't enjoy the belly pork on the second visit - but you can't have it all.
B.
Quirky and quintessential little restaurant. Fantastic food and atmosphere, great prices and the staff were so friendly. The m'atradie kept everything running smoothly and we could have quite easily spent a few hours here.
F. D.
Great food and really good service. Had the turkey Christmas dinner followed by Creme brulee, both delicious
J. L.
What an experience we were greeted in a friendly and professional manner. Our meals were so enjoyable and felt extremely satisfied with our three course choices. We were very surprised that after our meal they presented us with a small anniversary cake with written a gesture. What an amazing place, we will definitely be returning next time we visit York.
K. A.
Worth a visit, service was welcoming and friendly and food was great. Would recommend the Pulled Pork Scotch Egg 👌🏻
D. P.
We were tempted by the fairy light display to make a last minute booking on our anniversary week, and we were blown away by this place. The staff were fantastic and helpful, very friendly and eager to ensure we had a special occasion. The food was delicious, and the cocktails had fun twists on them. Special effort was made in our anniversary celebration, including some very kind complimentary drinks. Highly recommend.
M. C.
A beautiful setting, painted white with lovely mirrors, sparkly fairy lights and lotus blossom. The food was delicious and the service was wonderful! A perfect setting for a delicious Valentine's meal. Thank you. 💖💞
K. S.
The food was amazing! Me and my boyfriend walked past and saw the beautiful alley leading to the building... After being seated (right next to the bar to my enjoyment) we was seen to quickly by a lovely lady called tessa who took our order and was polite as ever! Being a work freak I loved watching the cocktails being made by the bartender (who's name I did not catch) and we chatted about how quick he could shake and pour three at once! We quizzed him on drinks and asked for a recommendation on what we should order... Once our food arrived in great timing may I add, we was not sorry. Sirloin steak and rib-I steak, with sweet potato mash ond onion rings as a side (fries came with meal) everything got devourd it was too good! Hats off to everyone working on V-day as we had the best time ever in all corners of service.
S. E.
Great family night out. The food was lovely and the staff were super friendly. We all felt like guests not just customers and the birthday plate at the end topped off a lovely evening. Thank you.
I. S.
Came up to York for a Wedding and a few days away. We were so fortunate to have found this fabulous restaurant. It boasts a lovely atmosphere, interesting decor and lovely food all served with a willing smile. Thanks
B. D.
Nice ambience, nice food and good drinks
P. P.
We dined from the Set Menu where the Portion sizes were smaller, but still very nice.. First Visit at this Restaurant, but will most definitely dine here again.
A. K.
Nice place when you want to avoid the crowds.
M. G.
Food was amazing and the service was outstanding, thoroughly enjoyed our evening. They even gave us a free glass of prosecco to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I would heartily recommend the restaurant to all our family and friends.
S. H.
Very busy restaurant, during these Covid restrictions, but some customers still need to understand social distancing.
The management had set out the restaurant well, the tables were well spaced and screens were used where required.
The menu had a varied selection and were served by helpful staff. Meals were excellent and enjoyable, would recommend .
C. T.
Perfect venue for mid afternoon lunch. Set menu of 2 or 3 courses £16.95 or £19.95 each is excellent value given the quality of the food and the setting. Drinks reseonably priced, staff helpful and attentive without being over the top as you sometimes experience. All in all would strongly recommend and will return next time we're in York.
D. K.
A lovely place with great service. The food was OK but I expected it to be better, maybe I'll try something different next time I visit.
D. H.
A really nice feel to this restaurant, the theme is based on European streetside restaurants, the food is very good, along with the service.
It would be wise to book in advance though, I think you may be disappointed if you don't.
We will definitely be back.
P. M.
Four of us went for lunch on bank holiday Monday. It was really busy and I'm glad we had booked. The service was excellent, loads of choice on the menu with plenty of cocktails as well. I had a sirloin steak which was a little overcooked but still tasted great. All in all I would definitely recommend Ate O'clock but make sure you book.
D. S.
Excellent food at very reasonable prices, plus the staff were excellent. We would definately go here again and recommend it to anyone visiting York. 1st class.👍
E. R.
Lovely little stunning restaurant, food was gorgeous and the staff superb. I had calamari and meatball linguine and my wife had spicy meatballs follwed bychicken and mushroom pasta. The food was cooked and presented beautifully. Will definitely be back to sample some more of the menu
A. S.
First visit had been recommended and we really enjoyed it
L. H.
Nice atmosphere in lovely surroundings. The staff are really friendly and give good service. The food was excellent. We had the fixed menu 3 meals for a bargain £17.95 and all courses came quickly, despite it being really busy. The food was really tasty. The only gripe I had, which is why it is 4 stars and not 5, was the very tasty steak came with only fries but no veg. A couple of grilled tomatoes or a few seasonal greens wouldn't have gone a miss. It didn't ruin my meal though and it didn't take away from the great service. I would go back again.

We were celebrating our wedding anniversary & booked for lunch. We were greeted with a free glass of bubbly . We chose the two course meal of chicken in lemon butter sauce with vegetables followed by a sweet each. The waitress then brought us another sweet to share which had happy anniversary on the plate. This is a very nice restaurant with lovely friendly service. Thank you
R.
We visited here for my 30th birthday meal. The restaurant itself is lovely, the staff are very welcoming and the food was impeccable. I was also surprised with a sweet happy birthday treat, which was totally unexpected. I can't wait to return to York and visit this restaurant again.

Good food helpful staff ihave a disability and the waiter cut my meal up for me so I didn't get embarrassed
And there were a lot of stairs and the waiter let me use the disabled toilets.
Thankyou to all the staff you made our visit extra special we would recommend you 😊
S.
Great service, lovely food the cheese sauce was fantastic. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious. My only pickup was I asked for my steak cooked rare and got it medium rare but the meat was lovely and tender, still ate it all ☺️ will be coming back!

Great customer service, wonderful food and cocktails. Excellent value for money. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Rapidly becoming one of my favourite places. The food is exceptional value for money and such a huge choice. Fabulous cocktails. Great atmosphere and attentive friendly staff! Highly recommend.
I. B.
Great eating experience. Set menu is superb value and food was delicious. Super atmosphere and really enjoyed the background music. Staff were friendly without being intrusive. Highly recommended. Thank you
D. S.
We arrived at short notice and they were able to accommodate our party, which was very good of the staff as they were busy. The service was very quick and the food was hot. I have no complaints re the service at all, however the food was very average, it was n’t bad, it just was not particularly great. I must admit they’re were very busy, so clearly they are doing something right.

We booked Ate O'clock for a birthday meal last weekend and it was lovely. The way the restaurant is set up is beautiful and totally unique, it looked amazing. A great restaurant if you are looking for somewhere special and also not too posh at all if you're just looking for a last minute meal out. Definitely recommend.
R. C.
Faultless.
Fantastic, high quality, very tasty food.
4 adults and a toddler. Everyone cleaned their plates and couldn't fault the food.
Highly recommend this restaurant.
P. J.
Lovely place and very nice team. The food overall was great, the halloumi burger was delicious with an added roasted pepper and I was delighted to find a few unusual wine choices by the glass instead of the very predictable Pinot etc. I highly recommend the Verdejo if you like white!
It did take a while for someone to take our order but they were helpful. My only gripe food wise is that the mussels were absolutely tiny and the sauce a bit too thick, so not the best moules I’ve ever had, but the rest was really great.
C. R.
Lovely staff, fabulous freshly cooked food, and nice atmosphere.
N. A.
Excellent service, wonderful food. Alround Great dining experience.
j.
As a first trip to York I would recommend this place food is amazing decent wine menu and food menu with decent prizes also dog friendly and the staff are lovely and friendly. I had steak and all I can say is wow one of the best.

Popped in to the social that's next to the ateoclock restaurant for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Was greeted by a member of staff and was shown a couple of places where we could sit. Decor was fab and modern. You go to the bar to order and pay. But drinks were bought to you and food didn't take long and was lovely and we'll presented.. Toilet was clean only drawback was there was no mirror, so when you've come in out if the rain or the windy weather we've been having no way to check hair or makeup. But, that's just a little niggle that's really neither here nor there. Would go back again as it's a relaxing environment.
D. J.
Quirky layout, central location and good food. Would visit again without hesitation!
J. B.
2nd time dining here, took a group of friends, food and service are faultless, cocktails are amazing, especially the lost kings
S. H.
We arrived with no reservation but where seated straight away. The staff where very nice and helpful, ate from the set menu, good portions and reasonablely priced. Will definitely come back again
M. M.
Our 46th wedding anniversary a lovely meal enjoyed every bite, staff very attentive, will definitely go again when we are in York

J. H.
Such a fantastic atmosphere. Staff are absolutely amazing, food is delicious and at a very good price. I would definitely recommend this place if you're visiting York.
1.
Booked here for a meal for our daughters 19th birthday. She has been before and was recommended by her. The food is absolutely amazing, and such a reasonable price. Three course meal for £17.95 on the set menu, lots of variety and very good portions. Highly recommend 👌 oh, and the cocktails 🍸 are fantastic.
M. B.
Great hidden gem in the middle of the City
Good atmosphere good menu and food and service was spot on
A. R.
Very friendly restaurant. A good choice on the menu and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I would recommend if you want a nice meal in York.
K. c.
Visited last night for a meal for two for the first time. Very impressed with everything, service was quick and efficient despite being quite full, staff were polite and couldn't do enough to help. Covid safe with masks and screens and most of all the food was excellent! Looking forward to calling in again, definitely 5*****from us!
A. H.
We had a very nice salmon salad, crispuy and refreshing, a fishfinger sandwich, served with french fries, and lamb shank, tasty, tender and well cooked. Food came very quickly. We drank bottled beer, Heineken, and Pironi.
J. B.
Fantastic restaurant. Service 10. Food 10. Value 10. Not much more I can say. Extremely busy for a Monday night. Good reason for that obviously. Do not miss the chance. Worth it....
S. M.
Tasty food. Fast and friendly service. Nice atmosphere. Delicious cocktails. Sirloin steak was a bit chewy but overall excellent value (we ate from the 2 course special menu).
A.
Food wasn't great, we did get from the 2 course meal menu, so maybe why the quality wasn't what I was hoping for. A really pitiful burger. Will try from the proper menu next see if this is any better.
M. T.
Lovely meal last night! Cosy atmosphere, good food, friendly staff.
S. S.
Good, tasty food. Great value for the money (on.the set menu). Well worth a trip! Friendly, attentive staff with nice free birthday desert at the end for my girlfriend which was a touch of class 👍🏻. Thank you and we will be back again
s. w.
Really nice restaurant, good atmosphere, prompt and helpful service. The food was good too, set menu with plenty of choice from burgers to pasta. Recommended
J. S.
Had a lovely meal here on Saturday the restaurant was busy but the service was good and the food was delicious will definitely be going back
I. F.
We went on a Wednesday and it was fairly busy. Food was delicious however service was slow , we didn't let this take away from how nice the food was.
Overall the Ate O'Clock is very clean and has a nice atmosphere.
C. C.
Fantastic place. I visited a few years ago and it left such an impression I couldn't wait to go back. Spent ages searching for it but gosh it hadn't changed. Fantastic staff wonderful food and lovely surroundings. I will never eat anywhere else when I visit York. Well done to all the staff and so glad you made it through lockdown. It's well deserved
G. O.
Wonderful food, great staff and customer service. Visited as a guest at a wedding reception, a party of 30, all with different starters and mains, so I think we covered the whole menu. Each and every dish was excellent.
Thank you.
S. d. (.
Amazing food and drinks! And the staf was lovely 😄
L. B.
Chose this place because of good reviews. I chose the rib eye steak & it was cooked just how I like it.
My girlfriends sirloin steak was undercooked & full of blood, so was sent back (she likes it medium, no blood or pink) it was taken away, heated up again, came back, minus the big mushroom, so had to ask for another one. Her steak came back only half cooked this time, so she left it as I'd finished mine by now.
It was my girlfriends birthday, the waitress did come out with a chocolate cake on a slate with a candle , which was nice. She also knocked off the price of her steak dinner off the bill, which was the right thing to do.
All in all a nice place, just make sure you get your steak cooked properly as mine with the 'chunky chips' was rather nice.
L. A.
Stumbled across this little gem by accident wondering through York town centre! It’s such a lovely little restaurant hidden away. The staff were all very friendly and the place had a really nice relaxed atmosphere with good music and lovely twinkly lights! We both ordered lunch from the two courses for £14.95, steak and fries and it was hands down the best steak I’ve ever had. Really thick and tasty and cooked to perfection and I very rarely say that as it’s my fave thing to eat but its hard to get a good one! Dessert was to die for sticky toffee pudding in butterscotch sauce! We will defo be back when we are next in York without the kids. Highly recommend! Thank you for a lovely afternoon
A. D.
The food was above average and I really have nothing negitive about it. However we visitied on a Saturday night (table booked for 7) expecting to make a nice evening of it and ended up leaving at 7.24. Our order was taken so quick and our food literally came out at the same time as our drinks. Again I have to reiterate the food was lovely however I was a little disappointed that we felt so rushed for the table to be turned over. We was not asked if we wanted any more drinks nor to see the desert menu.
D. B.
Just returned home after an enjoyable trip to York. Arguably the highlight of the visit was finding this gem nestled inbetween the shops.
I could not praise the staff enough as they made our stay very enjoyable.
As for the food, well there's not one complaint about any of the items that we ordered from the set meal for two. I would go as far to say it's the best steak that I've had for many years.
Would I visit this establishment again......too right I would.
Thank you to all the staff for a very pleasant meal.
J. S.
A lovely sparkly lit passageway leads to the restaurant. We were supposed to be sat outside but it was not such a nice evening so they had covered it over. Friends had set menu and I had off the a la carte. Lovely tasty food with good service.
V. H.
We had a brilliant family meal here the evening before our wedding in York. The food was delicious, and great value. The service was fantastic. We would highly recommend.
A. H.
Me and my boyfriend Chris, had the pleasure of dining out at 8 o'clock this week...
He had been doing some work there, so we decided to try it.
One of the owners Alex, was lovely and welcoming.... the staff were exceptional....
And the food was absolutely divine.
I will 100% be returning... intact I'd go as far to say, this will be my new haunt.
Thank you!
S. B.
After a very wet walk into York it was a delight to find the extending cover over the "outdoor" seating area was in place and everywhere was warm and dry. We sat down to a lovely meal with a great beer and wine. After a lengthy lockdown it was nice to be close to the hive of activity which a busy restaurant always is.
J. P.
Great restaurant in the heart of York. Food was very good service quick felt looked after and price was good. Would recommend to all. Thanks for a great night.
E. B.
Booked for my partner's birthday and all the staff were so nice and accommodating. It was a very busy evening, every possible table was full so definitely book a table before hand. We had a 3 course meal each and all the food was absolutely delicious! There was a bit of a wait but we didn't mind at all. When it was time for our mains, they brought out the wrong meal for me, which they apologised for and brought the right one within 5 minutes, and then we were offered a free glass of wine each for the mix up. Wont turn my nose up at that. When we had our deserts, they brought out an extra plate with brownies, 'happy birthday' written in chocolate and a candle for my boyfriend, it was so lovely! Thank you all for such a great time!
L. M.
we went for a late dinner just after 8pm without booking managed to get a table. We weren't disappointed food was delicious and quick service as well. if you are in York give this place a visit. You won't be disappointed 👌
B. D.
We had such a lovely time celebrating a friends birthday, the staff were lovely and the customer service was excellent.
The food was absolutely incredible, and their signature cocktail the after ate which actually tastes like an after8 is a definite must.
j. v.
Went here with my husband. When we first walked through the door we were treated very politely and we were taken to a table for 2. I had a 10oz sirloin steak with fries and my husband had 10oz rump steak with fries and he had calamari as a side dish we had our drinks brought over to our table. The food was absolutely amazing I would recommend going here to anyone we most definitely will be going back. Prices are very reasonable and the staff are friendly and polite
N. T.
The staff were really friendly and extremely helpful. We had the set 2 course menu and they where fantastic value for money. The flavours were great and the food was fresh and tasty. No negatives!
K. L.
Nice place and food and service we always have a meal here when we visit york.ww usually have set 3 course for around £20 nice drinks to choose from black sheep I have .I would not have table for 2 unless inside restaurant varanda outdoor table for 2 very small table and arms touching the wall while eating table 3 or 4 fine nice seating area . toilet upstairs clean enough .lots good staff give it a try
J. W.
Really nice little place - great value food and drink. There's a 3 course set menu for about £20 that will have something for just about everyone. The deep fried brie starter was delicious and I'd highly recommend to cheese lovers! Really friendly staff too. I can't really fault it for what it is - it's not a top end dining experience, but I don't think it's aspiring to be, and for a more casual meal with family or friends it'd be hard to beat.
A. D.
Excellent, food, service and ambience. But book for later if you can. On the night we went, second after covid relaxation, it was so busy that the waiting staff were whizzing around so fast it detracted from the enjoyment of the meal, well the starters. Then it calmed down and we were really able to enjoy the excellent food and the evening in general.
J. K.
Very nice restaurant. Great food and service. The wait staff is divine as is the food. Be sure to make a reservation a week in advance.
C. B.
Fabulous food, excellent service. Only letdown was the table being sticky
M. H.
Not been here for years, returned for a birthday meal. This time the kids came (13 & 7) great selection of food and a nice 3 course reduced menu available. All plates where clean after each course, enough said.
T. T.
The food is amazing, the stuff is friendly. Will definitely come back.
C. A.
Hidden down a little alleyway opposite All Saints church on High Ousegate is this gem of a resturaunt. Full of charm and character with delicious food, excellent service and reasonable prices this place is our must go to venue whenever we are visiting York. It never disappoints.
M. K.
7th May 2021,
Excellent food, fantastic cocktails all in a lovely setting with great staff.
It was a lovely end to a great day shopping after being locked down for so long. Felt very safe with screens, hand gel etc. Well worth a visit.
B. K.
Absolutely wonderful meal. The staff were attentive and polite, the food was amazing. Being situated in the centre if everything was great, this place stood out with amazing entrance, upon walking in and sitting down they had a nice selection of larger and ale (bottled only) and a fantastic selection of wine. The starters and mains were fabulous and the cheese board at the end rounded everything off nicely. The atmosphere in this restraunt was great and I must say that if you get the chance to eat here, I would definitely recommend it.
A. W.
We were there last Saturday with my sister and brother-in-law from copmanthorpe. It was her birthday. The food and service was absolutely outstanding. We are from Leicestershire. I wish we were there this weekend. Loved it.
M. M.
Club Sandwich with Fries and a bottle of Moretti n glass of Rose went down a treat..
s. c. s.
Food was ok but i had pre booked the table and still had to wait 15mins then tuck me to a table to be told to wait a extra 7mins as my table is not ready. the waitress was very unfriendly and rude who served us .
Not bothered about going again. As the waitress made us feel very uncomfortable.
S. &. J. A.
Delicious! We had the creamed mushrooms, calamari, seafood tagliatelle, the Club sandwich and the chicken; all from the set lunch menu. For the quality and quantity of food it was a great deal. Attentive, professional, friendly service. Lovely atmosphere with casual outdoor (though intimate & enclosed in an alleyway) and fancier indoor where we sat. Very clean. A hidden gem, don't hesitate to visit.
A. A.
This restaurant was recommended to us by friends.
Really grateful for the recommendation, food was amazing, cocktails were fab, staff friendly and overall setting was brill.
Would recommend this to others and definitely visit again if back in York.
A. M.
Really nice food, a bit up on price. But everything was delicious
D. H.
Visited here whilst lockdown easing. All staff wearing masks and made all of the precautionary measures. Recommend the zombie cocktail
B. V.
A great hidden gem of a restaurant! Good food, (a few more vegetarian options would never go amiss) and great wine on the night, with as much social distancing measures in place as possible. It's warm and has heaters if it's not warm enough and the entrance is pretty magical too! Thanks to everyone there.
R. W.
Lovley restaurant, menu selection 2 or 3 set menu or chose from a-la-carte.
The food was professionally presented and was cooked nicely and very tasty.
The staff are very welcoming and very good at their work. Book to be sure of a table.
L. H.
Lovely friendly staff, nice atmosphere and socially distanced, sanitizer available. Delicious, well presented food - good gluten free options on a separate menu.
J. C.
Such an accommodating restaurant with food that tastes delightful.
Priced at £19:95 for a 3 course meal you will not be disappointed.
Special occasions catered for.
5 Star for this hidden gem!
A. T.
Really hospitable and friendly staff, great buzz about the place and really great food and wine.. They couldn't do enough to accommodate us on our anniversary and we will definitely visit again next time we're in York.

A hidden little gem. Brilliant staff, top quality food & service. Fully recommend. Not local so was nice to find a place to celebrate special birthdays.

Fantastic atmosphere, fantastic food great music lovely helpfull staff couldn't ask for a better evening. The staff really do go out of there way to make sure you have everything you need whilst there they couldn't be more friendly if they tried. With the lovely atmosphere and friendly staff and good food I felt like I was abroad somewhere, me and my fiancé will definitely be returning in the future.
m. t.
Good food, good atmosphere, clean and friendly waiter's. U only issue k had and ot was a small one. It took 20mins from when we sat to being asked what we wanted to drink.
R. B.
The food was lovely and the price for the set menu was really good value.
The restaurant was also really nice with a good atmosphere. Will definitely go again
S. M.
Great food. Even better is the kids tasty menu. Steak was tasty and cooked to requirements. Chicken caesar a must. If your a fan of gin, then treat yourself to a rosemary bramble
J. W.
Are from their set menu available every day but Saturday. Very well priced with lots of choice. Food was tasty, and for a table of seven the service was very good! Their 2 for £8 cocktails also went down a treat. Only issue was that their toilets are at the top of a small staircase with a tiny landing space, so not a lot of space to wait if they're engaged! Not a massive issue and not something easily improved. Looking forward to returning.
A. S.
Went with friends for my birthday. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, and great food. Can't wait to go again. Would highly recommend.
A. D.
So my partner and I had just got engaged and we decided to eat here all we can say is thank you so much for the free champagne and cake the food was amazing and service was exceptional

Came here with my girlfriend and the food and drink was fantastic! My girlfriend said her mushrooms were amazing and she also had chicken burger, and she said that it was amazing because usually anywhere else they are dry! My steak was also cooked to perfection as i like it! Staff were also extremely friendly! Will he coming again. Highly recommended.
S. W.
Came in for a Saturday night, ordered our food and drinks etc, managed the lovely chicken wings for starters but in unforeseen circumstances we had to leave the restaurant early. The brilliant staff quickly cancelled our mains, gave me the bill and we settled what we'd had. Great service and very much appreciated, hopefully we will be back in York soon to finish what we started at ate o'clock! Thank you.
I. W.
Excellent restaurant and staff were very friendly and helpful arranging gluten free food for one of our party
P. F.
This was my second visit. The food is amazing. The staff are polite and helpful.

What a lovely restaurant to finish a great time in York. Starter, main & dessert all top quality. Staff attentive without being intrusive & a very friendly, even to the extent that we carry on having a lovely night after leaving the restaurant. It's a must visit place when in York.

Ş. P.
I visited York on 18th July 2020 with my girlfriend and luckily found this lovely place. The food was really unbelievable. We had two set menus for lunch. We had calamari and bbq chicken wings as starters; both were amazing but I have never eaten such great calamari. For mains we picked a very delicious steak and a chicken hamburger which were wonderful, too! The lemon cheescake and brownie were 10/10. And the amazing part is all these great food was offered with reasonable prices.
We had some time to chat with the owners; they were very warm, respectful and smiling. The staff was very helpful. We really loved the beautiful atmosphere here, and will definitely revisit.
B. H.
Great venue with covered 'al fresco' area and spacious interior. Coping well with the new normal 🙄 although the girls might like to look at their mask position or not bother! Fabulous food - best steak I've had in a while - a really juicy rib-eye perfectly cooked. Highly recommended and realigned value.
l. B.
Had a great meal, the staff were really friendly. Great kids choice for food as well.
L. G.
We didn’t book and luckily got a table. Got 2 rump steaks, amazing! Very lovely food and great value
M. J.
It's ok. The Tiger prawns were very nice. There is better for the price
J. L.
We enjoyed our meals and the service was very good. I would have given 5 stars but my desert was like warm
R. G.
We went to Ate O'clock for a family members brithday and had such a lovely night. We got served by Flavia who was incredible, with such great patience and a friendliness that made us all smile. The food was full of flavour and lived up to the recommendations we had heard. Thank you to all the staff, we will be recommending Ate O'clock to our friends and family.
M. S.
Nice place, well run, good staff, good food

Fantastic food & service at a good price!
J. H.
Lunch today with eat out to help out offer. Lovely steak dinners and staff coped with power cut really well. Slight delay with starters - not their fault but gave us our drinks on the house anyway. Food was delicious.
A. W.
Excellent place to eat out. Well priced, good atmosphere, attentive service and very good food. Thanks to Alex for his hospitality this evening.
J. H.

D. F.
Absolutely fantastic! One of the best meals I've had in years. Lovely atmosphere and great service.
P. M.
Lovely restaurant. First time.ive visited, and had the three course set menu for £17.95, which was very good value for money. The staff are so polite, and the waitress that served us in particular was lovely! I will definitely be going back!
S. D.
This place is wonderful ! You could believe your sat outside on an Italian holiday eating really delicious food . The staff are all wonderful helpful friendly and attentive and the food is not only excellent value with high quality dishes but also fresh and fantastic tasting the cheesecake is one of the best I've had!
K. B.
Great find on our first night in York. Stopped in for a drink but ended up staying for dinner as the menu was great! Wish we'd sat inside as seemed a better atmosphere. The young waiter was difficult to understand but very kind. Overall a really great place and the food was fantastic!
D. H.
Great food, great service. Sunday 7.30pm, busy restaurant with attentive staff. Relaxed atmosphere, low easy listening music. Good choice of food, lovely starters followed by 2 x steaks both cooked to perfection. Reasonably priced. Would recommend.
S. C.
Very popular. Smells lovely (food). Great cocktails. The chateaubriand was cooked exactly as we asked and the chateau neuf du pape complemented it perfectly. Will come again.
S. S.
Absolutely made our evening. We went for our 2nd wedding anniversary. They went above and beyond, glass of complimentary prosecco and brownies with hand written Happy Anniversary in white chocolate. Beautiful food too and excellent service
J. B.

Definitely would go back
J. C.
Lovely place ..great food and atmosphere
D. D.
They’ve done amazing things with this place in 2 months. Classy decor and surroundings.
Food is amazing - small but varied menu. Tried both the steak and the duck - cooked to perfection; juicy and tasty. Presentation was also very good, but the taste and flavours were fantastic.
Staff very friendly and interact brilliantly with guests without being intrusive.
Try it - you won’t regret it. Will be back even though I live in Liverpool!
c. c.
My husband's food was nice mushroom in cream sauce and steak. I had a beef burger which I found a little dry and the manager gave us a discount. Lovely staff and atmosphere. Good deal on drinks. Thank you
J. F.
Very busy but lovely food and pleasant staff
J. J.
Had lunch at Ate O Clock with family. Was really impressed with the lunch menu, not over priced at all for such a great location. Staff was very friendly & Covid restrictions was in place. Definitely be going again
I. H.
Oh my God the food was delicious and the service excellent
M. C.
We reserved a table on Saturday 16th November. We have eaten there before on a couple of occasions. The food on offer is delicious and reasonably priced. The staff are courteous and attentive but not overly. It was a very busy night and as soon as diners had finished and left, the tables we cleared , cleaned and reset without the staff missing a beat. They are credit to themselves and the management. A very enjoyable dining experience. I would advise to book to avoid disappointment.
J. O.
First visit here after a friend's recommendation. The food was fantastic, good service and lively ambience. Would definitely recommend it
B. C.
Great food and service and well looked after by the staff who even let me bring my rather big mobility scooter into the restaurant. Will definitely be back.
I. E.
Great food, wide choice to suit all tastes, reasonably priced and excellent quality with good service
J. H.
Lovely atmosphere and a warm, cosy, escape for busy shoppers.

Had a lovely romantic evening at Ate. This is a lovely restaurant, the ambiance, decore and the choice of eating indoors or outdoors. The food was delicious and service was incredible too. Will definitely be returning.
M. R.
Went for wife's birthday Saturday at 5.30pm.Good service, nice staff.Had the sea bass for mains, tasty but not a lot of it.came with only 2 small potatoes and 3 carrots! Sugar snap peas were invisible.poor toilet facilities only 2: toilets at the top of some windy stairs .had to queue for a while..double espresso coffee wasn't very nice either so for 95 pound bill for three of us I was a touch dissapointed.
c. g.
Staff really friendly food delicious.
D. L.
Fantastic meal, ordered of the set menu. I have never in 23 years seen the wife eat all 3 courses and not leave anything this alone says everything about the food here it was wonderful. Definitely be back here when we visit York again.
C. C.
Family meal to celebrate my dad's 70th. Food was excellent and staff were great. Even though they accidentally released my dad's 70th balloon into the night sky they more than made up for it with excellent service 👏🏻
J. B.
Lovely atmosphere, the food was amazing and the service was excellent.
Would highly recommend 😊

Chosen for our first post-lockdown meal on the back of their social media posts showing great care in cleanliness and systems in place. The reality didn't disappoint and we felt at ease. Staff incredibly nice, careful and efficient and food of a great standard. Recommended.

Visited here in August for our Anniversary. We booked a table inside, but the weather was so nice we asked if we could sit in the courtyard. They were very accommodating and what a great ambience. Food was superb and all staff were very friendly. Loved it! Can't wait to visit again next week.

Second time going there usually is in October our month in York. Customer service excellent there was a initial issue with one of the steaks but corrected straight away with a new one cooked as requested, is a good price for quality of food and service we felt safe and was cleaned. Will be back again

York was freezing outside but there are lots of heaters inside the place. The thing is, the restaurant was actually in an alley between 2 shops. It's really clever. It's soo pretty and just amazing. The food was really good and the atmosphere is really cozy. The staff were really attentive and kind. Overall an amazing restaurant, I would definitely come here again.

Very lovely food and friendly staff who can't do enough for you without been over the top. The only thing is that there is a very steep wheelchair ramp up to the seating area.

Ate O’Clock is an interesting looking venue with both sheltered courtyard, and traditional indoor seating.
Finding Ate O’Clock online, we were enticed by the delicious looking, well presented photographed dishes and mouth watering menu.
Service was welcoming and pleasant from the very beginning, immediately greeting us upon our arrival, then asking preference and showing us to our seats.
Tempted by trying something different, I decided to go for the pigeon for starters. The food arrived in good time, and well presented. My meal was delicious, but it was during the last mouthful that the problem occurred. With my front teeth, I accidentally bit down full force on a metal pellet that had been overlooked from when the pigeon had been shot.
The waitress was very apologetic, so, as painful as it was, I was satisfied that I hadn’t chipped or damaged a tooth and put it down to a simple mistake - the meat was game meat after all. We continued with our meal, ordering the main course.
My partner opted for the Sunday roast that she had been craving all day. Once again, arriving in good time and well presented. Unfortunately, our problems hadn’t ended, and it was half way through her meal that my partner stopped eating and pulled something from her mouth - a knotted bit of butcher string used to bound the joint together. After what I had found in my meal, we could only laugh, yet it didn’t excuse what my partner almost ate.
Once again, we alerted the waitress - who was now clearly embarrassed by a situation that really wasn’t her fault. She stated that we wouldn’t have to pay for the meals, which was good enough for us, and we asked for the bill.
Rather than have us leave displeased with our experience, the waitress insisted that we stay for complimentary coffee or dessert. As she had been so pleasant throughout the evening, we didn’t want to cause offence and took her up on her offer - at no point was it stated that this was in place of the contaminated meals being wavered.
The sticky toffee pudding that we chose was delicious and would have been a pleasant end to an unfortunately eventful evening, however, when we received the bill my partner’s main had not been removed. When I queried this, I was informed that because we had accepted the complimentary desserts the meal had not been wavered - this was clearly because the price of the two desserts was considerably cheaper than the main meal itself. Noting this, I said that if that’s the case I would much rather pay for the desserts instead. The waitress disappeared to speak with the manager and returned with the bill that I should have been given at the first instance - a bill minus both contaminated meals and desserts.
We paid our bill and left, annoyed at the cheek of them daring to request payment for the contaminated meal. Had it not been for the events that happened, I would have enjoyed my experience at Ate O’Clock, but it’s too late to turn back time (pun intended) and change what happened.
