Found this little gem while I was exploring in York. Was excited by the menu and gluten free options, the first day I was there they were shut! So I went back the following day and then made a return visit before leaving the day after. Friendly staff, quirky, fun, maybe a little dated inside but all adds to the charm. Decent range of options. I had the apple and cinnamon gf pancake the first day and then went for a savoury brie, bacon and chutney the next. Loved both. I think the prices are very reasonable though I could have easily eaten more but didn't want to buy two! If I am back in York again I will make a beeline for this place for sure.

Down a little side street in York situated perfectly just off one ofnthe busy squares. Was craving a milkshake of some description and we found this place. The atmosphere was very cool and quirky, the staff was wonderful and the shakes were delicious. Very well priced for the sizes of the shakes. 100% recommend going I'd you find yourself in York, which, BTW is a very beautiful city.

Absolutely delicious! Definitely worth a visit, I felt like I could of eaten another one straight after- perfect for a light breakfast/ lunch and the customer service was excellent! Just note that they prefer one card payment rather than split between people so if you do go in a group, either get cash out or prepare to pay together! 👏🏻

My partner was recommended this by one of her friends. Had to queue for 20 minutes or so as it's only a small place. Staff were friendly and got us seated as soon as possible. Decided to indulge myself and get the megashake, and got a frankfurter pancake which had garlic sausage and sauerkraut with mustard and tomato sauce. I was slightly surprised to see the sausage actually cooked into the pancake instead of just placed on top. But I enjoyed it nonetheless. The milkshake had Kinder Bueno, cream, marshmallows, and a cake type bear treat. Just the right size and any more would have been sickly. Definitely would come back to try some of the different pancakes.

Such a lovely place! So much so that we are squeezing a last breakfast there today. The place is small but really cosy with seating both upstairs and downstairs. All the staff are extremely helpful and well, the pancakes are just delicious! I thought I could manage a savoury and a sweet but soon realised they’re a lot more filling than I’d anticipated, so don’t be greedy… Definitely recommend being there out of peak times if you don’t want to queue as it’s extremely popular (and rightly so).

Nice little pancake House. Went specifically for the gluten free ones, which was very good, but was also nice that when they brought out the drinks, the biscuit on the side was a gluten free one. A thoughtful touch.

One of a kind place for breakfast/brunch! 😍 Pancakes are so light and fresh - absolutely loved both of our pancakes - we tried reese and strawberry/Nutella and they were both really good! The biscoff hot chocolate is one to try out! Unique! The lady who seated us was so kind and gave us one of the best places to sit which is a small private room on top floor which felt really special for a Valentine brunch. Thank you ever so much - we would definitely be visiting again! Excellent service.

We went for a late breakfast and absolutely loved the oreo milkshake but the apple, mango and lemon cooler had very little taste and wasn't very cool... The waffles were exceptionally disappointing. They were barely warm, didn't taste like they'd been cooked fresh and had the texture of a dish sponge. The ice cream, which was served between the waffles, only served to make the bottom waffle cold and very tough. I wish one of us had tried a pancake to see if they were any better.

An intimate, quirky restaurant setup with most of the tables either upstairs or outside the front, this restaurant offers a wide range of sweet or savoury pancakes. I went for the Frankfurter, with garlic sausage, sauerkraut and more mustard and ketchup than you could ever desire. It was well cooked, delicious and set me up for a long day of exploring York. Absolutely delicious! I had the savoury breakfast pancake with chorizo, bacon, mushroom and cheese and partner had the chocolate conference suite pancake with pears, Nutella and hazelnuts. Special mention to our server for helping us with the menu as we are both visually impaired. Very welcoming and accessible, 100% recommend and definitely coming back when we are next in York.

Came in today as a last resort after scouring the entire town for decent eats. Hoped our apprehension would be unfounded and that the food would be fast and tasty. Unfortunately our concerns were very much justified, think server fell into the toilet after taking our drinks order, just kinda disappeared for 20 minutes, and it isn’t like there’s many places for him to tuck himself away in the tiny premises. Eventually food was ordered and arrived, very average for me, bit bland. Have added a star because Im hungover and probably being a bit unreasonable

We went to Double Dutch Pancake House for breakfast in September 2016. I ordered a breakfast pancake with bananas, my wife ordered a walnut and nutella pancake, and we ordered a plain pancake with lemon and strawberries for my toddler son. The pancakes very nice. The Americano that my wife ordered was lovely, very smooth. A couple of suggestions for improvement though: 1) The walnuts were stale. I would recommend fresh Californian walnuts. 2) I asked whether they had freshly squeezed orange juice, and I was told yes. What I was served though was a bottle of orange juice from concentrate. I specifically asked for fresh orange juice because I dislike juice from concentrate. I would highly recommend that they serve fresh juices (not from concentrate) which go very well with breakfast pancakes. They could also expand your drinks menu by including yogurt drinks which can be freshly made in house.

We sat outside for a coffee and managed to find this vanilla ice cream espresso coffee! It was great and only £2.50, I think. It looks like a small place but they have a seating are upstairs too, and service was really prompt and polite. I would visit again, and highly recommend if you're in town and just want to stop for a few minutes and have a break.

We came here to start off a day in York with something a bit different. We were seated quickly, and the staff were all friendly and attentive. I had a savoury pancakes and my girlfriend and her daughter both had sweet ones with shakes to boot. Everything was delicious and I'll definitely be happy to visit again the next time I'm here.

Amazing vegan pancakes. It’s a cute little place in York. They make both sweet and savoury pancakes. We tried “go nuts” which was Dutchella (vegan Nutella) with toasted almonds. This place is reasonably priced. Staff is polite and courteous. They are usually quite busy. Service is quick.

I came here for lunch on a Saturday. I had noticed on the website that bookings were not possible on the weekend, so I was prepared for a wait. There was a short queue when I arrived and we were immediately told that there would be a wait time of 20-30 minutes (there were two parties of two people in front of us). When more people arrived behind us they were told that there was around a 45 minute wait, and they decided not to wait in the end. We chose to wait (definitely worth the wait!), and after around half an hour we were seated. We had had time to choose our food whilst waiting, so our order was taken immediately, and then the service was extremely quick. All the pancakes were made fresh to order, so I was expecting to have to wait a bit longer, but I was really impressed with the speed. There was a really great choice of sweet and savoury pancakes, and also the option to create your own toppings. I had the bacon and apple pancake with stroop syrup ("The Amsterdammer") and it was a very nice balance of sweet and savoury. The pancakes were a good size, and with a milkshake I didn't have room for dessert. The ambience was very nice, with some Dutch decorations around the restaurant. It is quite small and a little bit crowded, as to be expected in these old buildings, but once we were seated it wasn't a problem and we didn't feel hemmed in. We were seated downstairs and didn't see the additional dining area upstairs. The prices were really reasonable - three of us had a pancake and milkshake each, then a cup of tea and two of us had stroopwaffles, and the bill was £45. Not bad at all for a really delicious and quite different to usual lunch! We will definitely return next time we're in York. However, I would book if I came on a weekday and I would make sure I had the time for a bit of a wait for a table.

They are great chefs ,embedding slim slices of fruit like pears and apples into the pancakes at request. This place is highly recommended. They have a superb selection of pancakes and beverages and the coffee is great. It's usually very busy, but we were fortunate to get a table for two and were served quickly. One small downside is the cooking is near the table area so you may smell of pancakes after you leave, but it is a busy place so they are constantly cooking and it can't be avoided. The pancakes were delicious and prices were ok and I would try it again if we are in York 👍

There are things like pb&j or banana that aren't on the vegan menu unfortunately. (To the creator of the vegan menu: great job but so much doom for improvement still. Visited yesterday for breakfast on our last day in York during a weekend break. We didn't feel like going for the traditional stodgy full English and had the inspiration to find pancakes. Double Dutch came up during our search and after a short walk we arrived. The staff we're great and very helpful with suggestions and any questions. But the pancakes we're something else! We went for the "Traditionally Dutch" pancakes one with maple syrup one with stroop, a dutch syrup that's a bit thicker than maple but just as lovely! Overall the pancakes were delicious and satisfying. Filling but not overwhelmingly so like a full English. Everything was fresh and again the staff were great! I will definitely be back!

Very tasty pancakes indeed. I'm not sure if they do different types of pancake but mine was a crepe style and it was delicious. It came with cream and syrup in little iron skillets (very cute!) And there was a white chocolate mouse on the handle trying to get to the syrup (the cheekly little thing). Its nice little touches like that that make a meal all the more enjoyable. The tea was also tasty, and if you work in the forces or NHS you get a 10% discount. Even better!! I'd give it 4 1/2 stars if I could. I don't want to give them 5 else they might get complacent heheh ;)
