A fantastic evening. Food of the highest quality, making the most of some superb produce.
Service friendly and unpretentious and an excellent wine pairing.

My wife took me here for my birthday sitting at the chefs table and it was fantastic!
The wine pairing was very good with some interesting wines for each course, but the non alcoholic pairing was exceptional.
This is a restaurant that is experimenting and trying new ideas so be prepared to just roll with the menu and enjoy.
Only a matter of time until it gets recognised and starts winning awards.

Unbelievable! A fab experience from start to finish. The attention to detail of every tiny element of this evening was incredible. The surprise with each course made it so fun and exciting - with great service and a narrative to make each dish come alive. The food itself has phenomonal flavours that linger and grow in your mouth, and the wine pairing took it to a different level. Exceptional all round... Well done team cochon!

A fantastic menu and experience, and one which has improved significantly on the already great foundations over/since lockdown. Each dish and course was delicious and flowed nicely into each other, with some wonderful staples and changes over time as the menu has changed. As it is a blind menu I won't mention which dishes I enjoyed the most, but it was all thoroughly enjoyable - although you should look out for the macarons if they are still on the menu.
The wine pairing was always one of Le Cochon Aveugle's strengths, and this has been retained with the renewed focus in their food, and pair beautifully. In addition, last time my partner and I also tried both the wine and soft pairings, sharing both of them, and I highly recommend doing so. They were delicious, experimental and often unexpected. Sometimes the drink from each menu also paired beautifully together in addition to just with the food, making for a continually changing collection of flavours and textures.
Le Cochon Aveugle has cemented itself as my favourite restaurant in York.

A superb sensory discovery experience! Unusual and imaginative flavour combinations combined with a rare sophisticated honesty about the food. Prepared with precision, perfection and passion that is evident in the beautiful and delicate detail of every dish. The wines are an educational experience and discovery that greatly enhanced and complimented the food.

Beyond incredible experience. Fantastic food, beautifully presented, amazing art and incredibly tasty. Great service and probably in my top 5 of restaurants (and I've been very lucky to go to some incredible ones). Fabulous experience I'll treasure for a long time

This is a hidden gem of a restaurant. The meal is like a jazz piece, great improv and preparation that is the result of great underlying skill. A small place, like an intimate dinner party with a feast of courses on a set menu. You don't get any choice or notice of what the meal is. Not a place for control freaks but if you want to be surprised, challenged and have your taste buds excited. This is the place in York.

Booked a meal for my birthday after being intrigued after Josh's appearance on GBM.
The food was amazing, we ate and enjoyed things I'd never dream of ordering myself, the wine pairing was also on point. The whole experience was enjoyable and memorable in a friendly and calm environment.

We have been there about 5 times and it's food heaven. Josh creates tasting menus you can't even imagine ....deserves a 3 Michelin stars 💕💕💕

Very nice food and excellent staff. The price for tasking menu is very good to compare with other restaurants. I paid more in other restaurants and the food was much worse. The tasting menu has eight courses but you get some additional snacks so it’s probably 10-11 courses in total, plus you can get a cheese board, although I was expecting some nice restaurant made crackers not a bread to be served with the cheese board.
The wine selection could be slightly bigger. I missed some Malbec in the menu but still they have quite good selection of wines starting from around £19 per bottle and they have a few quite expensive choices as well, so you should find something for yourself. They have quite nice cocktails as well e.g. banana old fashion.

Incredible. Creative food, exceptional wine pairings and one of the most welcoming atmospheres of any fine dining establishment I have visited in the country. Would highly recommend booking in here.

Fabulous lunch at this little gem. Every course was beautiful and the service was superb

Beautiful food. Everything is cooked to perfection. Its my second visit and I wasn't disappointed.

The food is exceptional! Made to feel very welcome as soon as we walked through the door. We both left feeling very full! This is a huge treat for us but was well worth it due to experience of being on the chefs table.

What a fabulous experience and the tasting menu was out of this world. The 3 chefs and both waitresses were first class and it is a venue worthy of a visit. Only small place but a mighty big food experience. Each course was a wonderful gastronomic experience that tantalised your taste buds.

Perfectionists. A very special place. Josh and staff are all brilliant and made our evening brilliant by being very engaging.

A group of 4 of us were lucky enough to sit at the 'Chef's Table', watching the chefs do their work, creating the beautiful food. Every course was delicious, gorgeously presented and innovative. We had the most wonderful time. Service was friendly and professional. Highly recommend!

Absolutely fantastic restaurant with an amazing tasting menu! Wine pairing is great too 👌🏻🍷

Out of this world taster menu. Worth every penny. Deliscous taste sensation with every mouthful. Staff and experience were amazing.

Eaten at Le Cochon Aveugle twice, and was blown away both times. The food, the wine, the ambience and the service are all 1st class.
I have eaten at some one and two Michelin star restaurants in the past and can hand on heart say that this little place is equally as good. How the Le Cochon Aveugle hasn’t recieved a Michelin Star yet is beyond my understanding!
Thank you
N. S.
Truly excellent food and very knowledgeable but not in the least pretentious staff. Highly recommended

Delightful taster menu, very filling.friendly helpful staff who knew what they were doing. Felt very full when we were given a bag of spiced gingerbread to bring home, yummy. Wheelchair accessible, good roomy toilet. Aesop toiletries.
S. B.
Fantastic tasting dinner. Very interesting dishes (and of course tasteful) in a very warm atmosphere. Lovely

Strong essences are kept in small boxes"...
A fascinating place, made by fascinating people.

Quite stunning. Certainly up there with the best meals we've eaten. Food was creative, beautifully presented, tasty and surprising. Wine list excellent and well priced. Service friendly, efficient and engaging. Atmosphere lovely if a bit loud and, on the hottest day of the year, a bit warm. They also accommodated a non-carnivorous friend with no problems. We will be back. Very soon...

Had an absolutely brilliant evening here. The setting, the service, the staff and of course the food made this a really lovely surprise night out.
The staff could not be more courteous, and so friendly, they were knowledgeable and helpful for suggestions of wine etc. The food was amazing, we are still talking about it 2 weeks later. I can't wait to go again, and next time we're going to sit at the kitchen station and watch the food being prepared and get a chance to listen to Josh.

Someone give that chef a star!!! We came here on a Wednesday night and had a seat at the chef table. Right from the start we were blown away with the food. From the Tunworth & truffle gougere to start, to the warm chocolate mousse to finish. Each course was mouth watering and the attention to detail was amazing. I think we had about 12 in total. I regret not having the wine pairing menu now. Perfect place to come for a special occasion. Thank you to all the staff, the service was impeccable: warm, knowledgeable and friendly. Cant wait to come back next time we are in York.

Amazing experience that I won't forget. The scallop alone deserves 5*s

Not the first time we've been here and won't be the last. This place is run by a couple who are passionate about what they do and it shows. Josh likes to create flavour combinations that you wouldn't necessarily expect and it really works. They grow their own fruit and vegetables in a small plot and they don't waste anything. Absolutely fantastic experience.

Superb, from start to finish. Truly exceptional food and service. lunch menu and wine pairing were an incredible exploratory experience. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a top of class fine dining experience.

Amazing meal, one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I have had in a long time.
Restaurant offers a blind tasting menu and every course was sublime along with the matching wines. Friendly and knowledgeable staff made for a great relaxed experience.
S. B.
Went here for a gentleman’s lunch where we enjoyed an extensive tasting menu. Each course was a delight in particular the Orkney scallop...wow! Amazing staff and intimate dining setting. Memorable experience and look forward to getting back there one day.
C. S.
Very good. Attention to detail was 1st class the flavour of the taster menu was brilliant, my favourite bite was the black pudding macaroon. The wine flight was also perfectly matched. Boom in advance and go.
S. T.
I think this is the best restaurant in Yorkshire, fantastic food both flavors and portions all served by very friendly and attentive staff in a happy, light and relaxing atmosphere, also great to talk to Chef Josh Overington as well, will recommend to any one in York. P.S the black pudding macaroon are out of this world

Visited for my wife's 40th birthday and sat at the kitchen table. Josh and Victoria are fantastic hosts, providing great service and wonderful food. The atmosphere was cosy and relaxed. It was great to talk to Chefs Josh and Grant about their experiences. We have eaten at several michelin starred establishments that don't come up to this standard - it is worth of recognition.
The blind tasting menu seemed never ending, with each course being just the right amount. The carb-lover in me craved perhaps a potato accompaniment, but that was a minor quibble. Josh's signature black pudding macaron is to die for and his scallops were the best we have had cooked for us.
To top it off, we were presented with a take away bag containing malt loaf made by Josh's Mum's recipe...lovely touch! Somewhere we both want to return to.
P. T.
Absolutely incredible meal and a stunning set of companion wines to go with most courses. Worthy of a Michelin star. Highly recommend the wine bar run by the same outfit a few doors down for pre or post dinner drinks - they really know their stuff.
G. L.
This is a top class restaurant that is surely just a whisker away from its first star.
Seating only 20 people it is a small & intimate restaurant that you never feel unwanted in, more like extended family sitting down to Sunday dinner with Josh and Vicky.
The menu, perfect. The service, perfect. The staff, perfect. A perfect experience overall.
*as a side note, unlike some I read the t's and c's and accept that cancellations and no shows are hurting small independent businesses and a need for a charge is present.
Who's to say you're not faking illness?
So go while you still can get a table because this place is on the move and fast.

We went here for the other half's Birthday celebration and it was just amazingly awesome!!
The tasting menu was so good, it was like a party in our mouths! Classy and divine tasting meal...Would highly recommend this restaurant, definitely a 5 star from us!
J. M. S.
The restaurant was marked as one of the best spots in York. Definitely it is an original one because the menu can’t be chosen or even seen before served. Quality of the food is good but not fantastic which is what you expect in a restaurant like that. Friendly staff. Slightly pricey.
J. B.
Just superb - excellent food and detail, not pretentious and great service. Made to feel comfortable and at ease. We've eaten in a number of top York restaurants and this places tops it all.
R. R.
Delicious, divine, decadent and we didn't even manage to get to the cheese course! If you want a fantastic special occasion journey of a dinner then definitely book in here-what a spectacular treat ☺️
L. T.
Service was lovely and efficient. The food was fine, but there is better to be had.... definitely over promises and ....under delivers.

Quite simply the finest meal I've ever eaten. Simply superb. Go find out for yourselves. Not enough superlatives for fifteen courses. Outdoes all competitions. If you can get a seat at the bar.

It would be churlish in the extreme not to award Le Cochon Aveugle 5 stars given the often exquisite food served up, along with some superb drinks, including orange and yellow wines, and there were only a couple of items – across 9 courses – that failed to live up to the generally excellent standard. However, one major fail was the serving of horribly tasteless gluten-free bread straight from the packet, to accompany my partner's buerre noisette. Is it really so difficult to bake (or source) a decent wheat-free alternative to their usual sourdough? This was horribly lazy, especially given the restaurant's willingness to cater for alternative diets – which is to be applauded – and was compounded by serving it up again with the cheese! When I requested some oatcakes – the obvious accompaniment – they were promised but never materialised. Apart from this, the service was mostly good, albeit unnecessarily formal. Overall, definitely worth a visit.

A blind tasting menu. Just a nice teeny hint of performance about it to be special without being silly.
Food and wine every bit as good as hoped. Staff were friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed and exciting.
J. P.
Blind tasting menu evening, absolutely phenomenal food and service, second to none, thank you for a fantastic evening 😁

Have a lovely meal here. Really enjoyed watching the chefs cook the wonderful food.

Theatre, wonderful. Only 4 stars because seats terribly uncomfortable. Which matters for a 9 course meal!

(Translated) Great selection of wines and cured meats, they could not waranty to be GF though ☹️
Decor was nice and prices were London like.
The wine list was excellent and they also had a good selection of homemade ibericos, even though they could not guarantee if they were gluten free so I could not try them. ☹️
The price goes up a bit from the York average, but the place is very cozy.

Decor was nice and prices were London like.
La carta de vinos era excelente y también tenían una buena selección de ibericos caseros, aun que no pudieron garantizarme si eran sin gluten así que no pude probarlos. ☹️
El precio se sube un poco de la media de York, pero el sitio es muy acogedor.
