The ambience of the restaurant is a hundred percent for me. It’s calm, dim light and beautiful (it suit my mood at the particular time). The food is absolutely tasty I didn’t know I’d finish the fish 🤣🤣. The Singapore vermicelli with hams and shrimp 🍤 was okay but I didn’t enjoy it probably because I was too full after the fish and the lemon ice tea. I spent 32.80 GBP for everything.

Food was cooked to perection. You can tell the chefs have pride in what they do in the detail. The Sichuan seafood Ma La dish was 100% authentic, blew my tongue on fire but it was right. enjoyed the meal and the service. well done guys

Always love coming here for the dinnertime menu, value and quality is best you'll find in York. Well work giving it a try between the hours of midday and 3pm. I ordered chicken and sweetcorn soup, salt and pepper ribs and crispy shredded beefing in Cantonese sauce with egg fried rice can't go wrong at all for only £14. They don't cut corners on quality, taste or portion size more than enough for 1 person. Highly recommend this place only confusion is on window out side it says midday til 3pm and on the menu it's says til 2pm.

The whole experience was beyond expectations. We went a bit early so we almost had the whole restaurant to ourselves. People started trickling in as time went by. We ordered stir-fried mutton (this was recommended by waiter and glad we chose it), duck fried noodles, spicy pig intestines (they were surprisingly very tasty. I am aware that the texture might not be for everyone -I loved it though!) and roast dough with minced pork which was crispy greasy heaven. Unfortunately they did not have the chicken feet which I really wanted to try. As dessert then we had deep fried banana balls which was covered in crispy thin sliced fried potatoes, covered with what tasted like sweet condensed milk (combination was on point!) and sweet glutinous rice balls in rice wine. Staff were very courteous and nice. We will definitely go again!

I've been to a lot of authentic Chinese restaurants, but I have to say this is my #1 favourite so far in the UK. The food is amazing, compliments to the chef, the atmosphere is great, the interior design is cool, and the staff are lovely. Food came out quick and all together. Definitely worth a visit! Food hits the spot for me. You order spicy, you get spicy. Interior wise, it’s kind of funny to see their Christmas lights still hanging there in an April. Though, apart from that, all is good with the decor, cutlery, lighting and even choice of music. The management is also quite considerate with their policies (changing forks to chopsticks for Asians without them having to ask, default placement of forks for locals, & printed a guideline on how to use chopsticks for the customers who wish to learn). It’s nice to see the little details. A little advice for the restaurant is to clean the teapots and teacups. There’s quite some long term tea stain marks on them. It’s a little turn off to be using those for consumption.

We really enjoyed the food but the service was not great. Upon entering the restaurant we were greeted by one of the younger members of staff who simply said, 'umm ok' then showed us to our table. He never came back to take drinks order. I had to ask him. He said sorry as you can see the restaurant is very busy. The restaurant was less than half full. I told him that. Awkward silence. Service was generally slow and staff not friendly.

Great place to enjoy classic Asian cuisine. The menu can be a bit overwhelming considering the large amount of choice that Is given, however this is amazing because theres plenty of good food to choose from. What can I say,the service was terrible.We had a table booked and were still waiting 15minutes later.Even if they had offered a drink or even the Menu to look at,but they kept ignoring us until I went and caught someone's attention.However the food deserves⭐⭐⭐⭐as it is some of the best we have had in a long time.The prawn toast was exceptional,the ribs lovely and as for the sizzling duck in a black bean sauce was worth going back for.

Came here for lunch and ordered several dishes. Service was not too long and there were seats available quickly. The selection on the menu is comparable to other similar establishments. Similarly, the food tasted comparable, but there was nothing noteworthy on either the downside and/or upside.

When I was a student in York, this is always my favourite Chinese restaurant. But after a few years I went back here, it seemed the taste became different. The price increases while the food quality and taste changed. Anyway, it is still a good place for Chinese food.

Visited this restaurant Twice in three days as everywhere else booked. We had starters , drinks and mains a little different than your usual Chinese meal . Very authentic and delightful dining experience with a largely Asian clientele-always a promising sign of deliciousness within! We were four days in York and returned to this restaurant for dinner 3 of the 4 evenings! We were craving Sichuan and Red Chilli did not disappoint. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked amazing, generous portions perfect for sharing and perfectly balanced for those who like their chillies with tender and flavoursome slices of beef and vegetables. The staff were helpful but curious as to how we would cope with the heat and the restaurant itself a lovely place to wind down after a day of sightseeing.

I would have preferred a more hygienic menu during Covid, maybe asking people to view the menu online and only giving physical menus to those who need it would be a good idea due to the large size of the menu probably being difficult to print on disposable paper.

I came here with a friend on the last night of our trip to York. The staff were friendly and were able to give us advice on our food. The quality of the food was really good - in particular the salt and pepper softshell crab was extremely delicious and it's something that I very rarely see on other menus. The green lights that divide the booths are a really interesting touch. I would highly recommend eating here

Tried to book a table for 6 on their website. Said the confirmation was successful on their page. I didn’t get an email of the confirmation so I did it again and same thing happened. So I headed to the restaurant and bare in mind I’m British born Asian & speak Cantonese and English fluently. I don’t speak Mandarin but I was greeted in Mandarin and then the waiter said something but I could not understand so I spoke English and made it clear I can’t speak Mandarin. It seems as though the confirmation was not made. Anyways, the food was okay but most of the foods we ordered were very oily. I go to Chinese restaurants frequently and the food isn’t usually this oily. Even the vegetable dishes were plummeted with oil. The beef noodles was bland but the other dishes were okay in terms of flavours. The pork shank was very fatty, meat was soft and drizzled with oil which made the dish very hard to eat. Quite disappointed with this place as I saw the reviews and people have said it’s amazing. Could also do with improving lighting. We came for lunch and the place was very dark. It looked as if it was night time. We ordered around 7 dishes, (excluding tea and rice) and it came to a total of around £80. Eeeek

Had a great meal, New year's Eve, a great crowd, the atmosphere was good. The staff are very friendly and attentive. What a menu, in some ways to much of a selection. The salt and pepper ribs starter were fantastic followed by hot and spicy perch with soft noodles. Not a great beer selection but a good fall back old favourite pint of Guinness was good. Plenty of good wines to choose. You won't be disappointed with your visit plenty of room for everyone.

Came to York for a weekend away with my boyfriend and we wanted to have a nice meal together. You pay a bit more at Red Chilli but it's 100% worth it as the portion sizes are great and the food is amazing! The staff were very friendly and since we ordered too much (because everything looked so nice) they even offered to box it up for us. Very nice authentic Chinese. Better than the usual Cantonese meals. I've been to China many times and I eat at Red Chilli with Chinese friends and family so speak with some experience. We always order too much and just pack leftovers in takeaway boxes for lunch next day. Go there and enjoy. Avoid ordering your usual takeaway meals for the best experience and drink jasmine tea.

The pork and veg soup was good, but I didnt enjoy the poached beef in chilli oil, which came with masses of sliced dry chillis. The dried chillis were too hard and dry to eat, so I picked put the beef, which had little flavour. The carpet was dirty. The staff didnt know the menu. And its expensive. We wont be returning.
