Reviews of Rustique

Lovely decor, food and service. Very good value set menu. Would be 5 stars if I hadn't felt so rushed! Even the food was served super fast and hurried! Is this a french thing? Booked for 7:45. Website gave you options for start and finish time for your booking slot. So did 7:45-9:45, knowing we were going to have 3 courses then possibly a coffee. Got in a few minutes early, but were out by 8:30 easily, and that was having 3 courses, no coffee, as felt too sick to have coffee. Would have liked even just a few minutes between main and dessert, but ended up stuffed and uncomfortable. What's the point in offering start and finish time if just going to rush people, anyway? Would dine here again buy would eat less as not given time to enjoy and digest it.

Delicious food, 5/5. Mussels, Duck confit, sticky toffee pudding. Server was also very nice and helpful with my questions on the type of food and checked very meticulously on my allergies to make sure the food is OK. Would eat again!! Cheaper than I expected as well.

Came up as a good place to eat on trip advisor and the barbers i used in York recommended it so we thought we should give it a go.
We arrived early and it was quiet but it filled up quickly and by six pm there were no tables left that i could See.
The food was delicious.
My favourite part of Rustique though was the service, it was friendly, efficient and swift.
Bill came to 72 pounds for one starter, 2 mains, 2 desserts and 2 glasses of wine.
Would go again.

A fantastic French bistro in York City Centre! Plenty of seating upstairs with quick and attentive staff, even on a Saturday! Great choices for set menu, including prices.
c.
Mussels is the best… it’s always good, big meaty tender and juicy! Steak not as good. Sticky toffee pudding is nice as well. Recommend!

Amazing food and service, we walked in on a fully booked evening around 6, asking for a table for 7-7:30. We were advised that it was fully booked for the night but we can try walking in around 7:30. By the time we got there, the lady at the reception already booked us a table, because we said we would come, and there was a spot opened up for two. I’m touch by the thoughtfulness.

Came here after reading the reviews and had high expectations. Firstly, the beef bourguignon was absolutely delightful and flavoursome. Everyone that comes here should order this dish, and the richness of the sauce is to die for. I’ll never forget this.
It’s a lovely charming décor restaurant however service was good but not the 5 star worthy. It was good, friendly, and you will have a lovely meal and experience. Go for the beef though seriously.

A really good place to eat whatever the occasion. The food has a distinctly French feel and was well cooked and presented. The staff were lovely - runoff their feet as it was Mother’s Day but gave individual attention nonetheless. We all loved it and it’s atmosphere. We will be back and I would certainly recommend to others.
S. S.
All the staff were friendly. The food was very good value for money. We had a good time in here.

Everything was wonderful from the exterior, inside downstairs & then up the stairs to the amazing space inside & out, the decor, the staff, the food, drinks all fantastic, delicious (true to French cooking)... Wonderful ambience & great pricing. A true gem.
Z.
Amazing food at such a good price! We had the set menu which has a great variety to choose from, really delicious and super filling. Staff were lovely too, a must visit

Completely spectacular from start to finish. Prompt delivery of courses to the table. Wonderfully tasty. We will be returning jusy as soon as we can!

The best place to dine in York, surpirsed it has not got a Mechilin star the food is incredible. Service is always too notch polite, profesisional and welcoming, the food is out of this world. Always eat here when I am in York! Not one to be missed, you'd be a fool to miss it.

Fine French dining experience and the perfect place to enjoy a meal with good old friends! The food was delicious. We ordered assiette de charcuterie to share between us (more than enough for 3 persons) and I ordered boeuf bourguignon as a main dish that was properly cooked. The Parlez-vouz Malbec wine was a great choice and it accompanied well the dish. The crème brûlée was a delight at the end of the meal. The staff had a profound knowledge of the dishes they served, making recommendations and entertaining the clients in a very pleasant and welcoming way. Definitely, a dining experience not to miss out while in York !

We were visiting York and saw this place highly recommended by other travel bloggers. We made a lunch booking in advanced. Unfortunately we misread the booking email and got the time wrong, we turned up an hour and 30 minutes late. We thought we would have lost our chance to eat here. Luckily the team was very accommodating and found us a table in 10 minutes. The food was very good as expected, and as the photos. We also had the French onion soup which we loved and enjoyed so much that we finished it before having a chance to take a photo. The atmosphere was really lovely and felt like we were transported to Paris. The service was super too. Would highly recommend this place if you are visiting York.

Hidden French gem in York. Absolutely fantastic experience from all staff. They made us feel special! 😍 Great decor and we were on the second floor balcony. Food was fresh and hot but nothing special to be honest. Perhaps our expectations were a bit high but some of the main dishes were very bland. Therefore, 4 stars only for amazing customer service experience 🤗
A.
Had our anniversary meal there today. Most beautiful French onion soup!!!Could have stopped eating then but there was so much more- seabass and pork shank so soft it was falling off the bone. Bramble cocktail was so refreshing. And big thank you to the lady running the shift - she found a table quickly despite being really busy and made us feel welcomed.
Will we be back? Yes.
K. H.
Wonderful food, beautifully presented, interesting decor and great service. Really enjoyed the set menu but unfortunately too full to try the desserts.
B. D.
What a fantastic experience! Attentive staff, fantastic food, and all reasonably priced as well. Definitely a must try if you're in York.
C. D.
Absolutely incredible meal for my friends Hen party. Ambiance of the restaurant upstairs was amazing and the food equally incredible. Great service and excellent value for money. I would 100% recommend and return.

First place we went to dinner on holiday. The food was delicious, the place had a great atmosphere and they catered to my gluten intolerance with no issues at all. I had pate to start with and it was great and the gluten free bread was pretty good quality, then had the steak frites. Was All cooked perfectly! It was great value for money using the set menu!! I'd highly recommend.
S. S.
Excellent. Lovely food, friendly staff, great service.

Just been for tea at rustique while visiting York .
We did book in advance and glad we did as it was fully booked .
We had the two course special which was fantastic value and absolutely delicious .It's a must go restaurant 😁
E. S.
One of our favourite spots. The most delicious food with great service. They have a wonderful set menu with a good variety of options. A must for residents and visitors alike!
D. L.
We reserved a table for 2 for this upon reading the Great reviews, which I would advise as gets very busy and also was a Saturday.
The whole setting and decor reminded me of what Cafe Rouge restaurant tried to replicate, a nice and cosy atmosphere.
This place offered a wide range of food and drinks on offer, reasonably priced and there was always something for someone including vegetarian options.
We ordered:
Appetisers - Olives and French Bread
Starters - French Onion Soup and Tiger Prawns
Mains - Roast Lamb and Paupiette Chicken
Dessert - Lemon Cheesecake and Creme Brulee
All of the food was presented well, good portions and of course all so tasty. Service was quick and weren't waiting too long between courses.
The staff were attentive and friendly, all smiling.
All in all a great place to eat and worth a visit!
K. R.
Quite possibly one of the best restaurants in the UK. Great value, fantastic food, and a must if you're visiting York. Book early though.
N. F.
Amazing French restaurant. Lovely atmosphere, very friendly and attentive staff & great food. We went on a Sunday evening and were lucky to get in as we hadn't booked. Would recommend pre-booking to avoid disappointment
J. K.
Excellent food and portion. Very enjoyed the experience.
C. L.
Lovely food, ordered 3 courses from the set menu. Very friendly staff.
C. P.
Lovely little restaurant. Very fair prices, picked from the set menu and had the confit duck which was delicious and a very decent portion size. My girlfriend is gluten intolerant and this was catered for without any issues. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting York. Thanks.
J. C.
Stumbled across this place and what a gem! Food was all very nicely done and service was speedy! Two very full and very happy humans after this dinner!
J. H.
Now this is a fabulous restaurant in York. Authentic decoration throughout with paintings and maps of France. The staff are extremely professional, polite and most of all, friendly. Nothing is too much effort for them. We had our drinks orders taken with my wife getting g a recommendation of French cidre. It was better than any ciders we'd had before.
So we ordered our starters and mains.
We had mussels, fried mushrooms to start and I a seafood linguini while my wife had the beef bourguignon. It was fantastic, great chunks of tender beef a rich gravy and nice veg. My seafood was full of flavour with everything cooked just perfect. The creme Bruce and cheesecake where fabulous too. This restaurant rises above a lot of them and worth every penny (it wasn't too expensive either). I Highly recommend a visit here. We will return.
L. S.
The flavours in this place are absolutely unreal! Amazing mussels to start and the prawn and crab linguine was to die for. Lovely wine too and really good value for money. They have a set menu which is delicious and very well priced. The atmosphere was great too, and we were left to enjoy our food and not rushed off our table. Love this place
D. C. B.
Nothing else to say except “Parfait” ! The food was fabulous and service second to none. I am french so I can tell that this food was delicious. Would recommend the snails, frog’s legs, scallops or duck… A bientôt
R. L. M.
Fantastic food,.. tune steak from specials board, pork medallions, tarte tatin, crisp white wine, great coffee. Going back tomorrow.
A. J.
We had a fabulous dinner at Rustique. The staff were lovely, and made you feel very well looked after. The restaurant was cozy, but stylish. The set menu that we had was excellent value for such delicious food. My advice is to go hungry as you will be tempted by every course.
Sadly we don’t live in York, but if the owners are looking for another city to open in, may we suggest Cambridge?
C. C.
Lovely bustling restaurant. Set menu had a good options to choose from at a great price!
Terrace seating was particularly lovely in the sunshine.
E. W.
Had a fantastic dinner here last night. Second time I've been, and both times have been exceptional.
The staff are also so friendly and welcoming. Can't praise them enough.
Z. Y.
Absolutely amazing place & and the food is top quality, tasty and simply beautiful. We had the set menu 3 courses at a reasonable price.
I would advise anyone who has never been to try it, you won't be disappointed 🙂
E. S.
Fantastic French Bistro for a family dinner. Set menu, even on a Saturday, great value with no compromise on quality of food. Wonderful servers. We were even allowed to put two tables together so we could all (13) sit together - thank you. Returned as a couple for dinner on Sunday - every bit as good second time and our lovely servers remembered us and came over to chat. Will be back.
A. S.
Wonderful time here! Was able to book speedily on a Sunday night. Service was SUPERB! Everyone was so kind and accommodating. Food fantastic. Atmosphere fabulous. Would eat here again if ever in York.
H. M.
Lovely food and lovely atmosphere. Starter and mains come really fast but after that we got forgotten. No one asked if we wanted any deserts or drinks or even the hill yet the tables near to us would get served. Once we asked to see the desert menu and asked for some more drinks the staff was nothing but friendly.
A. C.
Lovely food and service. Only thing I'd say is there wasn't really any vegetables on plates in the mains. As much as the steak and fries were lovely, and family also enjoyed their mains but all of them could have done with some fresh veg or something to make it perfect.
L. W.
Lovely French restaurant. Set menu is great value and the food is delicious. Relaxed atmosphere. The service was good but I took off a star because they charged for 5 (!) puddings between the two of us (We like pudding but not that much 😂). However, it was quickly rectified so no problems.
I. H.
Lovely, busy French restaurant. Visited on a early Tuesday evening in early Oct and was surprised how busy it was, I'm glad that I phoned ahead and booked a table. We opted for the set meal, 3 course's for £21.95. Full portion size and lovely food. Service was also amazing
S. S.
Nice restaurant and lovely food and wine and great service. I thought my partner was complimenting the waitress on her nails when he said nice-nails but what he meant was NICE SNAILS (although she did have very nice nails! 😉). We all laughed so much. Will be back. Thanks
J. H.
A great find if they can fix their service. Staff were helpful and welcoming but they turned us (2) around so quickly we got whiplash.
Its a great venue but we were given no time to enjoy it. We weren't looking for a long leisurely lunch but ...
Our starters came out before the breads. I counted down to my husband, with my fingers ( my mouth was still full ) how quickly my plate would be cleared. The restaurant still had plenty of spare tables of 2 and more. We didn't appreciate the fast food style service.
You have a great venue, menu and wine list. Let your customers enjoy it.
D. M.
A wonderful, tasty and beautifully presented meal at Rustique. We went for the 3 course lunch special and it was amazing for the price. I had crab cakes for starter then chicken and dauphinoise potatoes followed by the chocolate pot. What a treat! The wine wasn't too expensive either. The room upstairs is gorgeous and very light and airy. The waiters were helpful and very polite. I'll definitely return.
A. V.
We had a booking for 4. Had an excellent meal which was superbly cooked. Recommend the rump steak if you are a meat eater and the creamy mushroom sauce tasted divine. For dessert the creme brulee was also excellent and a generous portion.
D. R.
Very nice food and atmosphere. If I ever visit York again, I'll be sure to come to this restaurant again.

Thank you to the team at Rustique for the fantastic meal on our visit to York.
We attended on a Saturday afternoon, and provided with a warm welcome and a table on the ground floor. This was pleasing to us as it seemed rather busy with the larger tables up stairs.
Even though we were downstairs the service provided was attentive but without being intrusive.
Starters for me was Mussels, which were plentiful and large considering slightly off season, and the white wine and cream sauce was beautiful. I could of eaten more.
Mains was the casserole, which consisted of traditional French meal of tomatoes, beans and meats a plenty. Again i really enjoyed this meal and side of bread provided was perfect for mopping up anything left.
Drinks included a recommended rose wine and a nice a cool draught beer.
Amazingly this restaurant has a set menu on a Saturday up to 7pm. This is excellent value and this is one place I would revisit again on a return to York, and would recommend for all to attend.
B. B.
Excellent!
As a French national myself, I just couldn't resist checking out this restaurant to see if it lived up to "French standards"
And to my surprise, it did!
Two 3-course meals, with drinks, came to under £50.
Moules marinières for starters (mussels for the lay English speaker) were on point, and reminded me of such in Brittany from my youth.
Then a "jarret de porc au cidre" with grainy mustard mash for main, and crème brulée for afters.
The pork was peeling off the bone it was so tender and the mash was flavoursome (I generally dislike mash for being bland, but not this one!)
The caramelised glaze on top of the crème is what distinguishes a wannabe dessert to a true dessert, and this glaze was cracking!
Would recommend!
J. B.
Really good value for money. We went for the set menu. It had variety to choose from. It was tasty and the portion size was perfect. Good French wine menu too for easy dining. A welcome break from pub grub.
B. W.
We visited here twice whilst staying in York, once for lunch and once for an evening meal.
The atmosphere is lovely very relaxed, the staff are lovely and the food was amazing.
Well worth a visit ! I would recommend the pork shank and mustard mash and a side of red cabbage.
They run a set menu and an Al a carte.
S. G.
Always our restaurant of choice in York, so of course our son chose it for his 18th birthday family meal. Always a brilliant experience.
J. M.
Excellent meal, great value for money highly recommended
D. B.
Decent enough but I must say the soup was barely seasoned. Added both salt and pepper myself. Also, I had a cheese board with three cheeses and only four crackers....bit on the tight side in my opinion.
M. S.
Had been before so knew we would have a lovely lunch. The staff were excellent and the atmosphere is great. Recommend booking though as very busy.
N. W.
Visited as a group for a birthday treat. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Décor was lovely. Food was delicious and well timed - we were a group of 10 and the food came quickly and all together. Great experience.
E. W.
We booked a table for two and where sat upstairs, lovely atmosphere. For starters i had the patè from the set menu and it was delicious, i actually hate patè but as im lactose intolerant it was an easy option, wow it didn't have the bitter patè taste ive had so many times before, my partner had escargots (snails) wow my first time trying them, delicious. For mains i had the chicken and bacon salad and he had lamb, beautifully cooked. And pudding he had apple tart, omg ive never had anything like it. Abserlutely taken back by the service and feel of this place, from the second we sat down to the second we left, i will defo be returning.
R. T.
Really enjoyed the meal here. Great location and staff. Had the set menu which was great value and delicious. Will go back next time we sre in York
S. T.
Fabulous French restaurant, with plenty of friendly staff who go the extra mile to make sure you are well taken care of. I went for the 3 course set meal, which cost £19.95, and I was not disappointed and did not leave feeling half full. The portions were very generous and packed full of classic French flavours.
R. L.
Surprisingly large inside with two floors. Can't fault the food. The 2 or 3 course set menu up until 7pm is great value at around 20 GBP a head for French classics produced quickly and to a high standard. Particularly like the fact you aren't rushed if your lunchtime treat spills into the afternoon.
J. H.
Very enjoyable meal with family. Delicious food, friendly staff and such a lovely atmosphere. We loved it. Highly recommended. Thankyou. 😊
N. M.
I had onion soup. It was amazing!!! Definitely, I will try another thing next time.
J. D.
This was our 1st visit to Rustique.... Definitely will return. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. All staff were polite and friendly. The food was delicious and service was excellent. Great atmosphere too.
J. G.
Went to this restaurant on 30th September. We were seated in the upstairs section of the restaurant which had a great ambience on the night.
The staff were efficient, polite and helpful with an added sense of humour which we appreciated.
Everyone enjoyed their meal from the a la carte menu and the quality was very good.
Rustique will now be one of our go to restaurants on our annual/biannual visits to York.
Highly recommended.
M. G.
Excellent food and wine. My only criticism was the staff were literally run off their feet, I know this is a busy time of year but the management should consider their staff and employ more at this time of year, our table was for 4p.m and the place was packed.
g. p.
Me and my other half ate here for the first time this evening and it was wonderful, the food was divine and cooked perfectly and so reasonably priced, lovely selection of drinks and the service was fantastic 👌 would recommend this to anyone whether as a couple, family meal or celebration.
R. W.
Nice food as is with most places now, the visit has a time limit, so the staff became a bit tetchy, when I told them there would be a wait between courses. We finished within the alloted time, having eaten the very good food, the 3 course set menu is very reasonable and very nice.
E. W.
We have been to this restaurant a number of times over the last few years. It never disappoints and you know the food is good. The set menu is always value for money and has a good range of dishes. The service is good and the staff are friendly! We came on a Wednesday evening and it was full! The food was hot and delicious!! We will be back again soon!!
k. w.
Really loved the meal but like other comments felt rushed with order with set menu some staff great and others ...well ...had lovely French onion soup to start then a chicken dish with potatoes ...some bits like vegetables you pay more for as not part of the set menu ...and a lovely lemon torte tart to finish ... atmosphere was lovely ..would still go back as meal was so nice 😋
T. R.
Wonderful dining experience. Very busy and it was a Wednesday. Booking essential. Staff very attentive and made us feel very welcome. Thank you.
A. S.
Beautiful steaks - arrived too late for the Sunday roast but great meal and service.
P. J. P.
From a non York resident, visitor from Norwich, and tourist.......i would like to say that i visited this restaraunt today 02/08/22
Food was absolutely FANTASTIC here. Service was faultless, and the cleanliness, layout, and presentation was FAULTLESS. All Staff were very friendly, and very very polite. Thank you for your services.
I loved the menu, and the food's taste. Ive never had French menu quisine before, and i didn't know what to expect. I was NOT disappointed. I honestly couldn't criticize anything. I have no suggestions for improvement, and no reason for complaint.
With the English description alongside the French.......im still grateful to the staff for forgiving my VERY poor French pronunciation....and i will definitely be returning to this lovely establishment when i return to York.
Its now in my personal guide for " go to " places.
I highly recommend Rustique for those who are bored with the same old , same old.
D. S.
We had a really lovely evening meal here recently. Place is lovely, good and varied drinks and food menu in a nice atmosphere.
D.
Pretty good. I ordered the soup du jour, celeriac and parmesan, which was delicious. Then the tarte aux champignons as main, which was a little less delicious. It wasn’t unpleasant but bland, and served merely with chips and undressed green salad. Service was efficient, if a touch rushed. The décor was lovely. I’d come again, but would order a different main.
K. D.
Rustique was chosen by my mum in law for her 80th birthday. The service, food and communication over the past 6 plus months with the restaurant was all very good. I would recommend a visit 😊
M. S.
Really lovely bustling restaurant in the heart of York. Easy to find and access with delicious menu options and very fairly priced. Great cozy ambiance, would return in a heartbeat.
W. C.
Celebrated our golden wedding anniversary in Rustique and from start to finish Didi (hope that's how you pronounce her name) looked after us, she is a great asset to the restaurant and is very professional at her job, thanks Didi you made our night special. Regarding the food complements to the chef I had the mussels done in white wine sauce superb, Cath my lovely wife had prawns done in a tomato sauce and still talks about it, for our main we both had the ribeye steak done to perfection. The meal was that good that we booked a table a couple of nights later. Thanks again Rustique your service and food out of this world.
R. S.
Excellent lunch, good friendly service.
P. C.
Fantastic restaurant and great prices.
E. L.
Excellent French food.
Pate was great with an excellent chutney. Boef Bourguignon was very tasty, good veg to accompany. Crème Caramel had the best Caramel topping ever!
Lovely place and absolutely rammed. I can see why!
P. L.
Great French restaurant. Mussels were delicious 😋
L.
I've always liked this place, it has a nice vibe and is reasonably priced. However, it isn't perfect.
The sugar on top of the crème brulèe wasn't caramelised, but burnt black, for example. I tolerated mine, but my wife couldn't eat the burnt offering on top of hers. Saying that, the vanilla cream beneath was lovely and it was a large portion. If I'd bought it from the more expensive ala cart menu, I'd have complained, but despite the charcoaled top, it was still good value from the set price menu. They just need to use a kitchen blow torch rather than a flame thrower next time.
The service was fabulous, the waitress was very attentive and friendly and the steak and frites came perfectly to order. The set menu version of the meal was easily enough for my wife, daughter and myself and we all left very happy.
J. o.
A really tasty meal at an affordable price point. Misses a fifth star because the meal was lacking balance; there were very few vegetables or greenery; and the acoustics are quite loud and enjoy inside.
The staff were lovely and the decor is your typical French bistro style.
I’d come again and ask for a corner table and more veg.
A. S.
Lovely food, lovely staff and the price and quality of food is exceptional. Would wholeheartedly recommend.
M. A.
Great french food and atmosphere. Good french onion soup, heavy on the cheese though. Excellent moules frite and steak frite. Always enjoy a meal here, even a quick lunch.
R. G.
Excellent food. Friendly staff. Great varied Menus
M. H.
Fantastic bistro, wonderful French cuisine and a really comprehensive set menu with enough variety to suit any taste. So good you'll want to eat there again. Staff were super friendly and managed to fit us in at the last minute which was needed between theatre shows.
J. B.
This is a first class place to eat and enjoy an evening. Great food; great service very good value for money. Would go again if in York.
J. W.
A very nice bistro, the set menu is great value, food nicely cooked and wine complements well. Good service makes this a great lunch or dinner venue.
A. P.
Had a really special meal here, from frogs legs starters to lovely tuna and lamb leg shank, 😋 great service and a good busy atmosphere and a good chocolate torte plus a crepe a la banana
J. H.
Absolutely beautiful food, the pictures don't even do it justice. My partner and I had three courses; initially we were started off with a complimentary basket of lovely warm French bread and butter, then starters: camembert and the creamy garlic mussels both served with French bread and were DELICIOUS.
My partner's main was chicken breast, wrapped in bacon with a tomato filling and rich cheese sauce. They gave a very generous two large breasts. I had the pan fried duck which came with a lovely rich sweet sauce. The duck was cooked to perfection and completely worth the price.
The creme brulee was just what you'd expect of a good creme brulee really.
Overall, the best meal I've had in a long time and we left with very full bellies.
K. C.
Good place to drop by for French dishes. I strongly recommend to have it as 2/3 dishes course, which comes in very good price! The food here is very tasty! To me, combination of soup and steak is decent one.
V. N.
Very good French restaurant in the heart of York. The interior was really warm and cosy, the staff was very welcoming and polite. The food we tried (soup of the day, kebab, chicken in white cream and duck leg) were well cooked but I found my chicken slightly heavy. Recommended for a comfy, tasty meal in reasonable prices (we had the lunch offer for 2 dishes).
C. B.
Couldn't thank these guys enough, I planned on proposing to my now fiance here and I rang to see if this was ok, the lady on the phone couldn't of been more helpful, we got a table near the window, I had requested if the chef could write in sauce on the dessert plate which wasn't any trouble and made the hole experience amazing, they came out with the dessert and the staff were amazing, gathered around as I popped the question, my fiance was shocked and just about got yes out! The food was brilliant also. Thank you so much rustique, you were amazing and we will definatly visit again when we travel to york.
C. G.
This place was amazing and really cheap an good! We got the 3 course menu for 16.90. Only 3 out of four got the whole course. We got mussels and kebab and soup for starter, absolutely beautiful, the mussels were perfect and the sauce delicious so was the kebab and the soup. Second course we got the duck leg, chicken breast with mushrooms sauce and the rustique burger with fries. I absolutely loved the duck leg, and the sauce was amazing! 🤤 and the best part was the desert!😁 I got the chocolate mouse, was absolutely divine, smooth cream au chocholat 😍, another beautiful desert was creme brulee, delicious and delicate with perfect crispy sugar crust! Beautiful experience at this place, just loved it! Also we got the crepe! 😁 hope you enjoy it if you go there we sure did! And hope they keep up the good work!
f. 5.
Beautiful food, atmosphere was brilliant, service was exemplary
S. M.
Tasty 3 course meal and great value. Our requested seating upstairs was not met however. Little things like sauces requests and swaps were not noted correctly but on the whole very tasty meal

Delicious food and excellent choices on the set menu. Friendly staff. Would recommend visiting and hopefully get to visit again soon.

It's lovely little place with extraordinary quality food and wonderful servise.
I barely ever give 5 starts to the restraunt but Rustique absolutely deserves it.
We came in for late lunch at 3 p.m. and we were the only people there for a while. Fantastic (French speaking) manager was so helpful, nice and made us feel very welcomed.
Food was so mouth watering and house wine was gorgeous.
Its not cheap so don't expect miracle but they offer set menu.
They don't have kids menu but we were offered a solution.
J. P.
Amazing food very polite staff and even though there was 20+ of us the food came out quickly and piping hot. Very reasonably priced and extremely good quality would reccomend and would come back.
J. H.
Lovely meal out with my family. The set menu was an amazing value for money especially for my brother and I as we both went for garlic bread and they let us have it as set menu saving £0.50 each. Steak frites with garlic butter was delicious and the crepe for dessert was amazing! Really recommend if anyone wants a nice meal out
T. C.
Good value for the set dinner and the taste was great. The food came in large portion and we couldn’t manage to order 3-course as we were too full after finishing the main courses. Cozy environment and friendly staffs.
V. P.
What is the first reason to go to a restaurant? Definitely, the taste of food! And this place is number one with it. Starters and main dishes were delicious and ready so fast.
Restaurant has two floors and second one is at least 3 times bigger than ground floor.

This is a super, reasonably priced French restaurant in York not far from Clifford's Tower. If you enjoy typically french cuisine with lashings of garlic, it is the place for you. Book in advance. It is very popular.
Further information:
This is often our first port of call when in York and we love it for the following reasons:
1. The food is authentic French cuisine. If you enjoy French dishes this is the place for you. The menu is extensive with lots of choice although we rarely stray from the comprehensive and very reasonably priced, set menu. Three courses cost £17.95 for instance. There is little I would not choose on this menu. Portion size is perfectly fine and the food is very tasty. The pate starter is very good and the baguette very fresh. We enjoyed all our mains including confit de canard, steak and chips and the pork in cider. The chocolate pot, the banana and caramel crepe and the crème brulee were just the job! An alternative a la carte menu is available
2. Drinks are also comprehensive, both alcoholic and not. Water is provided at table. The prosecco was very refreshing and the wine we had very sound.
3. The service is friendly, efficient and welcoming. You are not rushed.
4. The restaurant is comfortable with a warm, traditionally French ambience. The seating is spacious and comfortable. If the day is warm and sunny, consider the balcony upstairs. It is so comfortable and relaxing. The stairs are steep but there is a sturdy rail.
5. The set menu is frequently updated. Try the new white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake. Lovely!
6. The house wines are perfectly fine. The white was fresh and crispy.

My one big tip for anyone going to Rustique is to choose the Confit De Canard. This duck dish is sensational.
The same can’t be said for the Pot Au Chocolat- that was mundane, but the aforementioned main is so good it deserves full marks.
W. “. W.
May I just say equal opposites. A month or so ago I dined at Rustique the other side of town and I was super impressed (see Lendal Rustique) I naturally talked about it and I was recommended Castlegate Rustique, the opinion was it rained supreme, of course I set my eyes on eating here as a comparison, so I decided to take my girlfriend and the parents. As a hardy crowd of people with years of restaurants under the belt with different tastes and expectations we were in for an interesting night either way. Note to begin with the service is good at worst, but the attention to detail seems in my experience very consistent, with knowledge and understanding of the brand, food and expectations of guests, speedy without seeming annoyingly efficient, happy and friendly with a professional edge, understanding of food with recommendations but leaving a little bit to be excited about. The drink selection is good offering, wines, beer, spirits and cocktails, naturally we went for wine as it was a team effort. The food came in a timely manner and the options were A la carter or set menu, either is good with the former having more choice but (I didn't do the math) possibly pricier but not noticebly. So my criticism would be offer something unique with the set menu, it seems on my second visit, the A la Carter doesn't pull you in unless it's for alternative dishes. That aside we had a mix of set and a la carte, we enjoyed it all and the big difference, we had Escargot over Frogs legs to share, this is possibly the only thing that divides both restaurants.. the frogs legs you can share feeling like you had your fill where as the Snails left you wanting more (the dishes were shared and most likely intended as an individual portion). These dishes are unique selling points and need celebrating, I would personally love a frog and Escargot platter to share with some unique trimmings, this is just an opinion and a very minor gripe at best. As the group we agreed that atmosphere was submerging allowing you to sink into a wanted bubble of escapism, I want to and will go again. But sometimes revisiting restaurants is to it's demise.... Thank you for a wonderful night. This is my review and I'll just place the one. Merci beaucoup.
R. K. D.
Really enjoyed the food and ambience. The staff was very courteous. Overall an amazing experience.
E. L.
My favourite restaurant in York. The set menu has some great options.
D. P.
Exceptional service & fitted us in without booking on what looked a very buzy evening.
The pork with black pudding was sublime & the wife had salmon which she said was amazing. Service by Liam first class & they bothered to thank us for eating their. Well done. 5⭐

Wow, amazing food and service. So impressed, told everyone I know about this place.
N. B.
Fabulous meal, There is nothing bad to say. Menu was excellent, good wines. service was 1st class. I came with a friend, we sat on terrace, we stayed all evening. Just perfect. I will definitely come back, when in York.
A. M.
Great culinary experience! I had the rump of lamb and my partner had the pork fillet which came with an unbelievable sauce. Our desserts were sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate pot, that I can't speak highly enough of!
s. s.
First of all, cute building! ✨ Big up on the booking system online! It’s very smooth. Staff was lovely and thoughtful. 💕 We really enjoyed the food, and I wish I could have more crème brûlée. 😋 I’m curious to try the other stuff on the menu so there’ll probably be a next time! Thanks, Rustique!
D.
Our second visit and just as good as the first! We received a warm welcome and all the staff were efficient and friendly. The food was very good value for money, sizeable portions and all 5 dishes came out hot! We look forward to our third visit!
D. C.
The food was absolutely fantastic and the service we received when we asked to be moved upstairs was very good and friendly. However even though we had booked way ahead of time we were originally seated in the soulless downstairs room - drafty with the door wide open and a stark contrast to the lovely vibrant restaurant upstairs. Staff downstairs were fairly unfriendly and unwelcoming - would definitely return as long as we were guaranteed to be seated upstairs. Best mussels I have had in a long time and good value for money - shame about the bad start to the experience.
N. M.
Wonderful food and a very pleasing ambiance. French food at its best. Waiting staff very efficient and polite. If in York you must eat here. Not cheap but nonetheless value for money
G. E.
Fantastic food (genuinely) Great value for money and excellent service from very friendly staff 😀
K. W. (.
Excellent food & service - we went on recommendation, & weren't disappointed!
S. C.
Went in on the off chance and was able to dine on the terrace without a reservation which was just perfect on a beautifully warm summer evening.
Opted for the two course set menu and being wary of portion sizes in such cases, ordered extra sides.
Cut to the chase. Excellent. French onion soup was delicious and the mussels very good indeed. Linguine and pork shank were tremendous. Very generous portion sizes meant that we were rather overfaced and could not have managed a dessert.
Staff were very helpful and obliging. Try it, but I suggest making a reservation first to avoid disappointment as it was quite busy. All in all a wonderful experience.
C. Y.
Good vibe, cosy deco, LOVELY mussels, but average sea bass (a bit dry). Definitely worth a visit!
D.
Opted for some items on the set menu: A pork belly with apple cider sauce and steak frites with peppercorn sauce.
The food was delicious, the apple sauce had an almost gravy-like texture and feel but with a sweeter twist and the meat pulled off the bone with ease.
Steak was cooked well-done and tasted great
Our ownly qualm was one of the server's seemed a little on the grey side of life today. Know idea if it was us, her day or just generally waking up out of bed.
Other than that, good food, great pudding, somewhat of an okay server
D. H.
Delicious food, fabulous service and exceptionally clean and tidy. Will definitely revisit next time we are in York
D. K.
Quality, fancy and good loookig place. The menu was a bit complicated for me but lovely member of staff helped me out. Thank you
M. 6.
Good food and reasonably priced. Nice decor and atmosphere too.
g. c.
Sea trout main the creme brulie, very nice would highly recommend
K. H.
Amazing value for the set meal in such a beautiful setting , recently refurbished to a high standard.
My one and only criticism is that I had the crab and king prawn chilli linguine, the prawns were uneatable, they were bouncy and insipid in colour , tasteless and looked like they had been pumped up with water most unpleasant.
Apart from that everything else was perfect .
D. G.
A favourite restaurant of ours where we had our first date. Excellent prices for the food and drink and the option to have a 2/3 portion of wine. Food has always been perfect and the service by the staff is perfect and welcoming. Highly recommend
J. w.
A good menu, the entree was well prepared, but not what I would call French. The "French" bread was not french at all, the olives were essentially canned pitted green and black olives, not brined as you would find in France. Prices are quite reasonable. I had the lamb shank braised with tomato and red wine on mashed potatoes. It was excellent. I recommend the restaurant for it's good food location decor and service.
B. S.
“Rustique” is the perfect name for this beautiful little place.
We popped in on the off chance this evening to see if they could fit us in and they were very polite and accommodating.
We were placed upstairs and decided on the Moule de Marinieres and certainly wasn’t disappointed.
The Mussles were the freshest, sweetest I’ve tasted in a very long time and served to perfection. The sauce was the perfect combination of wine and cream which wasn’t too strong.
In conclusion for the price we paid also, we were very impressed and personally I think for the portion size, they could charge a little more.
We will definitely return and it was the perfect end to our visit in York. 💕✨
M. L.
Amazing food. The staff are so helpful. As soon as we arrived we were given iced water and lemon without asking. Would definitely come again the next time I'm in york.
P. R.
Great meal overall and fantastic service and atmosphere. Not giving five stars because the baked Camembert we had was way too ammoniated for our palate, possibly due to it being brought to a boil in a terrine, along with its rind (you can see the signs of a foamy boil over in the picture).
P. B. L.
Great food. I booked the previous day and when I got there they didn’t have my booking, which it was a shame, but they had plenty of spaces. The waitress was very helpful and kind, and made my boyfriend’s birthday amazing.
K. M.
Excellent value for money and very tasty food. Recommended for a family meal get together / friends quick catch up.
J. B.
We probably had our best filet the boeuf ever. We sat upstairs and we were served by two very friendly ladies. We highly recommend this restaurant. J&J from the Netherlands.
A. C.
We had a set menu, very good quality food and a large selection. The stuff was friendly and the price was appropriate. One of the highlights of our visit to York
S. N.
I go to rustique with my friends and fanily quite often. They never disappoint. The staff are lovely and it's great service. Some places now have terrible service so it's good to see even though covid has impacted it's still the same. The food is always delicious and at a great price.
Z. N.
Very beautiful interior and welcoming staff. Apart from the escargot being slightly dry everything else was delicious. Will be coming back.
R. H.
Excellent restaurant, superb food and service. Highly recommend to everyone who not only visits but lives in or near York
M. S.
Ok this was the best meal I had in England. The place is also super cute. Must try if you're in York
M. L.
Rustique is small intimate wine bar serving a very wide range of wines and food. Great for that wine tasting experience
J. R.
Excellent value set menu with a very wide choice for all courses. Very good provincial style cooking, seriously good eating.
C. E.
Had a Vegan roast - tasty , but very stingy with the roast potatoes ( two tiny ones ) and the veg was just red cabbage and a tiny amount of green beans . Years ago you used to get a big plateful . It was a small amount of food on a big plate 😔
F. W.
Very tasty food and great service. The wine was excellent and set menu has a good nber of options.
D. T.
Had a wonderfull meal this evening. The service was excellent. The ambience was lovely. Will be going back soon.
J. S.
Fantastic food and service. Whole heartedly recommend and will certainly be back soon!
B. S.
Great food, service is very good. Second time there with work colleagues. We will go again.

Absolutely amazing, food is exceptional and super prices, great staff and facilities
P. D.
Ooh la la! A fantastic french restaurant with a brilliant menu, great quality and good prices, very busy but the staff keep on top of everything
D. M.
Very nice, elegant restaurant. Food was great, and service was as well.
S. H.
The food was amazing but the ambiance was ruined by the constant pushing to get you off the table. Be warned!
S. C.
Set three course lunch was superb as was the service. Good value for an excellent meal.
K. F.
The best food I’ve ever had, no exaggeration. Hands down 6/5 stars. The food was amazing, the staff were great, and the boss man fed the birthday boy many shots. Perfect.
Thank you for the great experience
S. H.
1st time at Rustique and we were not disappointed. Amazing staff. Fantastic service and food, well, the food was wonderful. Mussels to start and the gorgeous bacon and chicken salad, wow.
We will be back again. Thank you.
Also, good luck to all the 1st time staff who were on trial.
p. g.
The food here is absolutely fantastic. The service was excellent and friendly. The place itself is very well presented and had a lovely atmosphere. It was exceptionally good value for such quality food. It would of got 5 stars however there was a little confusion due to a slight language barrier but the problem was swiftly rectified and the staff couldn't apologise enough for the mix up. Other than that three rest of the meal was definitely 5 stars.
C. S.
Set menu. Starters were lovely, steak frites to follow. The meat was beautifully tender, although the overall taste was overshadowed by everything on the plate being over salted. Service on the first 2 courses was very good, however we waited for an extremely long time before anyone else came to our table. Even then they asked if they could bring us the bill. Er no, we’d like the desert menu please!
p. l.
Amazing food as always. Really reasonable. Can defo recommend the 3 course set menu. Epic given it was only £23. Drinks also not badly priced. Staff lovely and efficient service. They earned the tip we left
R. E. M.
Lovely French restaurant. The interior design and the place itself feels like you have been transported in to France. The food is amazing and the service is top notched! I highly recommend the chicken liver as a starter. It was divine! We will definitely come back for the food and experience.
V. S.
Lovely food, would heartily recommend the three course set menu.
L. M.
3rd time going.. very busy but the food was once again beautiful
T. G.
Nice restaurant. I had the French onion soup and mussels and my husband. My husband had a crepe appetizer and chicken for dinner. Good service
S. T.
Very very delicious food. Extremely quick service and very friendly staff. Would like to visit again.
B. F.
Very Nice Restaurant and friendly Staff - with a great Atmosphere.
Food was GREAT ! We ate every morsel.
Only 1 slight negative - our Plates were taken away very quickly, as we were still chewing our food and they were whipped away before I could say anything (don't talk with your mouth full of food ! )
Otherwise this was GREAT 👍
I would recommend it 👌
It could have been 5 Stars !
A. B.
Very pleasant staff and excellent food. Mussels, scallops and crème brûlée were delicious.
M. W.
Best restaurant in York, we went 3 nights on the run and we were not disappointed
J. E.
Excellent service, good food, and lovely surroundings.
L. H.
Excellent environment and atmosphere. Good range of dishes and quality was excellent. Service great and not too badley priced. Excellent wine list.
J. B.
Excellent value, authentic French cuisine. Beautifully cooked. Attentive service.

W. T.
Had a lovely 3 course meal with wine and very nicely presented
M. R.
Great food and service will definitely be going back when we in york x
J.
Went there for dinner on a Monday, had a reservation and were greeted very friendly. French-styled food, good quality and attentive staff. A bit loud, but maybe because it was close to fully booked.
H. I.
Always love eating here. Helpful staff, lovely food. Good value.
K. E.
Outstanding food, service was also fantastic. Highly recommend
M. C.
Friendly service and great food at a reasonable price. Would love to come back next time we are in York.
j. p.
Very welcoming staff,
Food was excellent, we chose the set menu, 3 courses 22.99, very good value.
Recommend this restaurant very highly.
L. H.
It is what is said on the label. It's what I would call a boutique restaurant. Not too big covers reasonably spaced out. Menu bit predictable but quality of food was good overall and service excellent. My starter of mussels was plentiful, french bread fresh and tasty maybe a little more broth was needed but full.of flavour. Main course of duck and dauphine potatoes was full of flavour but a little portion and you need to add sides to finish it off. Creme brulé is one of my favourite deserts this one was ok nothing exciting but nothing wrong just need some more flavour. Wine cellar is good £30 bottle of prosecco but atmosphere and service excellent. Will use again.
E.
Very good mussels and nice warm atmosphere. Very good service from a lady with Romanian accent.
C. L.
The plat du jour was delish X had mussels to start and confit of duck to follow X
B. B.
Busy French restaurant serving a good fixed price menu served by friendly and efficient staff
C. L.
amazing food, great service, fantastic!
R. W.
Recently refurbished, and WOW! what a difference. Gone are the dark wooden panels, and the bar which split the two dining areas still exists, but seems smaller and better suited to the space. The restaurant is much brighter and feels more open and inviting.
The food and drink is still fantastic and the service is still excellent (sometimes almost too attentive).
Rating increased from 4 to 5 stars.
S.
Excellent service and food. Would definitely book, to dine here again if in York.
L. S.
Nice little French restaurant with good food and a nice atmosphere. Worth a visit when in York!
O. S.
Visit here a few times a year and always have fantastic experience. Best to reserve as can get v busy
N. C.
4 of us had a wonderful meal at the end of November '21 firmly sister-in-law's birthday.
All of us ordered from the 3 course set menu and thoroughly enjoyed every dish.
Quality food, good value and attentive, friendly service - what more could you ask for?
Many thanks - highly recommended!
Z. 5.
The food was absolutely fantastic. I have never eaten better onion supe. I recommend checking a set menu as it has good value for the money. Portions were big and I can't describe enough how delicious food was. I only regretting not trying desserts but I was so stuffed 😩. Will go again!
C. P.
Lovely French restaurant. Tasty food at reasonable prices.Service good & efficient. Obviously very popular as prospective customers were being turned away while we were there. Definitely need to book. Very handy location right in the centre of York.
C. E.
Can't rate this restaurant highly enough. Food was the beat we've eaten in a long time. Excellent service lovely surroundings. Will definitely be back.
P. R.
Amazing food and great service too! Will be coming back.
The set menu is well priced and includes some great options and the wine is selection is lovely!
Staff all friendly and courteous and the atmosphere is great.
Highly recommended!
M. O.
Delicious food and a great set menu price!
Couldn’t fault anything about it
J. B.
Always lovely food. Just wish waitresses were a bit more smiley. Maybe a bit more chat when they're not too busy would be good. Good quality revamp by look of it. Well done
R. C.
Very nice restaurant with delicious food en good service.
T. A.
Visited York last week and ate here on Wednesday. Have to say it was one of the best meals I've had. Started with tiger prawns in a garlic juice then sea bass with new potatoes in a delicious flavoured sauce. Great service and not super expensive. Would definitely visit again.
J. H.
Went there as a group for lunch, a rescheduled Christmas get together. Food was delicious; duck and tarte citron. Ambience was good and the place generally smart, clean and very french! Would go again 😁
D. T.
Excellent food. But waitress did not listen and sadly had to keep chasing or changing food/drink. Maybe she is new. Chap took over, who was excellent and recovered it. Worth risking.
k. S.
First time we have had a meal here. Excellent food and professional service. Will definitely come again.
J. B.
Amazing food. The service Amazing best cooked steak I've had
M. S. (.
Great place to eat. We pushed the boat out and worth every penny
R. B.
Stopped here for lunch on a trip away for my girlfriend's birthday. Two of her favourite things are Moules Mariénes and confit duck leg and she described both as "easily amongst the best" she's ever eaten. I had the crab cake and cassoulet, and have to agree with her verdict! Amazing food and friendly staff. Will definitely go again.
c.
Delicious food, great service- our favorite place to have dinner in York.
I. S.
The restaurant was buzzing when we went their first on our wedding anniversary. Great vibes and amazing food. We had the mussels with French bread for me and the classic French onion soup with cheese croutons for the missus for starters and the rump of lamb with potatoes and rosemary sauce (me) and chicken breast Brittany style with mushrooms, tarragon sauce and potatoes (her) as main course. This was followed by the delicious Creme Brulee (him) and Pot Au Chocolat (hers) for desserts. Service was friendly and efficient.
It was lovely walking out into town hand in hand through the old cobbled and winding streets of York (albeit a bit chilly for our liking) and then ending up at this restaurant. It was nice and cosy inside and much busier than it was out on the much quieter streets. Luckily we booked so no problems. The tasteful decor is inviting and makes you feel nice and warm.
We have since then returned with mixed luck on a few occasions. Not much of a chance with no prior booking, therefore, booking is highly recommended.
B. L.
My husband and I visited to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I have a dairy intolerance (definitely not a lifestyle choice!) and did mention this when making our reservation. I also rang the restaurant to confirm they were aware I was dairy intolerant and that there were dishes I could eat. I was told choices would be limited but there would be something I could eat. I then asked if I could have a dessert. I was told they could do a vegan brownie which I was more than happy with. We had a lovely meal and were having a lovely evening until it came to dessert. The waitress said I don't think we can do a dessert. I mentioned the phone call and vegan brownie. The manager appeared and denied any such phonecall stating we don't do vegan desserts. To be fair they offered to do a fruit salad but there's only so much fruit salad and sorbet you can as many dairy intolerants and vegans will know. Rustique is a lovely restaurant, good value and great food. We will return but please please add a vegan desert to your menu. It's not just me I'm sure. P.s thank you for the cocktail.
B. V.
Always a great experience at Rustique. My go to restaurant for excellent value and good quality food. The new decor is certainly refreshing. If you are visiting York, be sure to book. Very popular.
J. K.
Service is as good as the amazing tasting food!
J. B.
Excellent food and service. Cocktails were tasty. We will definitely return!
N. B.
We were surprised to find such a varied and extensive menu at reasonable prices
The restaurant was very busy but we still received excellent service from the friendly staff.
We selected from the set menu and considered it very good value. Highly recommended.
j. w.
Really nice food and the set menu is a reasonable price.
L. C.
Highly recommend, food portions are big, the food was full of flavour. Party of 6 & no one was disappointed. Set menu is very very good value. Booking recommended as v busy. Lovely interiors & a wee outdoor terrace upstairs. Service was excellent, would return.
K. C.
My good lady's birthday and it was an excellent choice, lovely food great atmosphere 👍👍👍

Speedy service and very professional. The food was top notch; or top nosh if you pardon the bad pun.
F. D.
Amazing!! Top notch food and friendly service. Will definitely return! Diolch!
K. D.
I booked for a date night with the missus. It was my first time visiting Rustique and from the exterior and what I'd read about the place I imagined a cosy Bistro type experience with food to match. It isn't like that.
It's huge inside. And it was really noisy too when we visited. The staff were friendly but overly keen to rush us to order I think due to a lack of communication, we had three wait staff visit us in quick succession, maybe they would do better assigning wait staff to groups of tables.
We ordered a baked camembert to share as a starter which came with two slices of toasted baguette - nothing like enough to deal with a whole baked camembert. My partner was happy with her main course (I forget what she ordered, I think it was duck), but the provençale sauce with my dish was honestly very average and should be something a French-influenced restaurant should deliver a perfect rendition of. It's not hard.
Generally I thought the food and the service were a bit more like a mid-priced Italian chain. Maybe that's what they're aiming for and they're planning a chain, but it wasn't what I thought I was booking. If you want a proper date-night Bistro thing go to Cafe No. 8 on Gillygate instead.
S. L.
£17.95 for 3 courses of such large portions - and they taste good as well.
R. B.
Just celebrated my 71st birthday, first time there wish we had done it sooner. Food amazing, staff amazing, price very reasonable. Would recommend it. Book online as restaurant very busy even on a Tuesday. No walk ins. Richard Benson.
A. S.
Lovely food and the staff were great. Upstairs in the restaurant was lovely.
Definitely would return.
S.
Average food in my opinion. I ordered mussels and wasn’t impressed with the sauce it was very oily and overpowering with garlic and the cream sauce had split. I’ve had better mussels elsewhere. The prawn starter was nice but nothing special. The creme brûlée was good however and my parents enjoyed their food.
j. h.
Always enjoy eating here, beautiful dining area, super food and very friendly, attentive staff. We go regularly.
J. H.
Really delicious, freshly cooked food. Lots of garlic and cream...so be prepared for a workout the next day for the calories! Dropped one star due to the price of the side dishes, £3.50 for a small portion of boiled green beans seems quite high.
R. T.
Delicious food, clearly a lot of thought has gone into the menu to bring an authentic french dining experience to York. Offering many classic dishes that are complimented with a fantastic selection of wines. Sadly no French beers to complete the experience but not worth knocking a star off for that.
Very friendly staff, lovely decoration and atmosphere
If someone was visiting York for one day this is one of the places I would recommend they eat that day.
P. C.
Excellent value for money with full and varied set menu. Very attentive staff and very good food. Good choice of wines and lovely atmosphere. Can't fault any aspect of our visit.
N.
Amazing place to eat! Went to York for the castle and museum experience. After walking for a few hours we got hungry and this French restaurant is an amazing godsend. The feel inside was, as true to the name, rustique, and sttill they follow strictly to recommended COVID guidelines for peace of mind.
We got the mussles in white sauce, fillet steak, and rump steak. They were all beautiful with extraordinary sauces, as expected of a good French restaurant. The best thing comes at the end, though. I got a lemon tarte as the dessert and was blown away. Its cheap price was just the cherry on top, without the cherry!
We have plans to go there again soon, and will probably keep doing so. Highly recommended!
P. M.
Fabulous restaurant food and service 5*
C. D.
A thoroughly enjoyable meal for both of us including my first ever experience of eating snails (top tip - look at a youtube video of how to eat them first!). All the the food was tasty and well presented. The staff were friendly and efficient. And the price for the meal was very reasonable. Highly recommended!
P. G.
The food here is exceptional, the set menu is excellent value for money, been here on lots of occasions over the years and will continue to do so . Fab🙂
F. P.
Lovely lunch with friends. Friendly, helpful staff and good food.
L. C.
I had a beautiful meal here with my daughter.
We opted for the teatime set menu and everything was lovely.
The only fault I had was that no vegetables were included in the meal. I had the duck confit with dauphinoise potatoes which would have been greatly enhanced with just a spoonful of green beans. There was an option to purchase a side dish but I would have thought that there would have been something on your plate so I didn't bother to order. My fault really, I should have asked; I'll know for next time.
That aside, the meal was an absolute joy from start to finish and the staff were all lovely 😍
V. R.
Good choice menu set and a la carte. Reasonable prices for lovely individual French bistro. Staff friendly. Intimate environment, cosy. Worth a visit.
K. A.
Visited Rustique today for the first time in years and it was as good (if not better!) than I remembered. The set menu is amazing, lots of choice and very reasonably priced and the food was perfect. But it was honestly the service which made the visit even better. Friendly, super attentive and we didn't once need to try and catch anyone's eye if we needed anything..it just appeared..water for the table, menus, orders and bill. Excellent 💗
S. W.
Excellent French food on a sunny terrace. Great value set menu
B. T.
Amazing restaurant, cannot praise it enough.
Excellent food service and prices.
A gem to behold, glad we found it 👍😁

A return visit, and oh for the next, great food, great atmosphere, friendly staff, the mussels were fab, as was the bourginion
G. S.
Some of the best food I have ever tasted and the staff were excellent, I'll definitely be returning next time I visit my sister and mum in York
S. C.
Excellent food and great service. The set menu is such good value for money. Staff are attentive without being pushy or overbearing. Food is always cooked to a high standard. Our go to restaurant in York.
D. A.
We booked this restaurant on Google reviews and wow it did not disappoint.
The best service and food we have ever had in York and that's saying something as there is a lot of competition.
If you like fresh flavor food with attentive staff in a great atmosphere this is the place for you.
I had a mussels starter that were the softest and most tasted I have ever had anywhere, my wife had scallops and pancetta both spot on 100% recommended

Great food as normal!
Service is top notch
A. S.
Lovely food and very pleasant ambience. Something a little bit different.
P. F.
Lovely food and not expensive.
D. S.
This is an excellent restaurant, one of the best around I think. We hadn't booked and struggled to get in, yesterday was full, and we could only fit in very early today, but even at 4:30 they were serving around 50 covers, so make sure you book.
The set menu is great value, for either 2 or 3 courses, but we went a-la-carte: onion soup and scallops as starters, lamb rump and sea bass as mains. Both were delicious.
Next time we are in York, we'll be back here, this time remembering to book!
M. F.
Fantastic food, great service. A must if you visit York, you will need to book as it is really popular, you can also book online.
B. C.
Wonderful food and great service!
I had the Confit Duck, Mussels, and the Lemon Tart - which were all delicious.
L. P.
An excellent range of choice on the Set Menu although I would have liked to see a lighter dessert but at least it stopped me ordering one. Nice atmosphere and good service, we felt comfortable there from the start. Food was nicely presented and tasty, good value for money
N. M.
Lovely food and great value
J. B.
We had dinner tonight here with my kids. Food was fantastic! Best food we have had all holiday. Would highly recommend. Very good value and superb quality food. Very genuine French feel with food that would not be out of place in Paris.
N. h. R. (.
I've had a couple of meals here and some have been excellent but the pudding/desserts is where they truly excel. So so good. The ambiance is also brilliantly achieved, making me homesick for the years I lived in France.
C. C.
My favourite restaurant in the uk. Brilliant service, incredible well priced food, very romantic setting. Cant fault it, wish I still lived in york and could come back every week
H. S.
Lovely place tucked away in the centre of York! Great atmosphere and food!
T. W.
Just managed to squeeze us in for lunch. Didn't realise you should book! They were turning people away throughout lunch.
Lovely meal, nice atmosphere. Will definitely go again.
D.
Good food, decent portion size!
H. D.
Best French restaurant I've been to in the UK. Very authentic. Lovely staff, high quality cuisine and reasonably priced. Loos a bit tired.
A. H. H.
Absolutely fantastic....quaint setting, stunning, stunning food and such friendly, happy service from all the staff....thank-you for making our wedding anniversary so special.....and the lovely gesture of the pink bubbly....we will be back....I highly recommend this to anyone....a great price too. THANK-YOU
C. D.
Delicious food. The recommended red wine - A Malbec was fantastic and went very well with our food. Steak was cooked to perfection. Thank you for such a treat.
S. M.
Friendly and attentive staff, delicious food served promptly, a warm and welcoming setting. What a treat! Very glad we had booked, as even midweek it was busy. The set menu was excellent value.
P. S.
Waiters where very good couldn't be more helpful. Will definitely go again
B. H.
Fabulous food. Beautiful French bistro ambience.
J. C.
Fabulous service 👏 👌 food is excellent, certainly worth a look at lunchtime or in the evening.A great find and not expensive.

Lovely restaurant, great atmosphere, superb French food, excellent staff. I recommend it.

Wow! Lovely restaurant, excellent food good service. Will definitely be going back.
D. F.
Great atmosphere. Lovely decor and attentive staff without being overkill.
Food was excellent well presented. Well worth a visit. I know I will return.

Had a fantastic meal here, I am gluten free and there was plenty to choose from. The staff were very friendly and it was good value for money. It is also set out well. Will definitely go back.
S. W.
The food here is always of a very good standard. Good value for money restaurant. Service also very good even when busy.
T. M.
The food was fantastic! We will definitely be going back next time we're in York. There was a nice relaxed atmosphere for a lunch date with lovely staff. 5 stars isn't enough
D. T.
Beautiful food lovely atmosphere and very reasonably priced. The set menus are great value. The staff are very friendly. Would definitely recommend this place
J. P.
Long menu, great food, great value. Book ahead.
N. B.
Absolute quality. Although we went a la carte the set menu offers such value. Very attentive staff too. The steak was to die for and the Paulpiette de poulet was a triumph. Fantastic stuff, shame we can't go again tomorrow for my birthday.
H. S.
We were attracted by the great value set menu and weren't disappointed. The decor is so very French, as is the menu. Classic bistro style cooking and fast, friendly and efficient staff. I had a crispy crab croquette, duck main which was melt in the mouth and the pot au chocolat which was rich and delicious. 3 courses each, carafe of wine, dessert wine and coffee and still came out with change from £70 (although the well deserved tip took it over!)
T. B.
What a find. 2 course lunch menu amazing value. Recommend you book in advance.
R. L.
Great meals at a not too expensive price.
Excellent service from our Georgian waitress.
L. H.
This lovely restaurant is well worth a visit. It is reasonably priced and the food is top quality. Very impressive and welcoming staff. You need to visit when you're in York. You won't be disappointed. 5 stars for a 5 star service.
K. T.
Lovely. The Filet de Bouef was nothing short of delicious.
C. S.
Was an amazing meal. Starters were lovely and the mains were amazing. Both the beef and the duck were tender and tasted gorgeous. Staff were really helpful and attentive. Will definitely be returning
K. G.
Nice setting pork joint was only warm not hot so a bit disappointed with that but would return
J. W.
Fabulous birthday evening meal. Found the place by accident after taking a wrong turn. Will definitely book again on next York visit.
R. C.
We had a fantastic meal, services was excellent and Katherina was awesome. Highly recommended this place 👍
M.
There was a good choice of food on the set menu but I chose chicken in a mushroom sauce that was very bland and chewy with no flavour. The sauce was watery and the dauphinoise potatoes weren’t great. Looking around other meals looked a lot better and if I went again I would probably choose a la Carte as I didn’t think the quality of the meal I had was as good as others.
S. A.
Took Mum for lunch today for her birthday. We had a wonderful meal. Tasty food, good ambience and great staff. Thanks
J. J.
My first time visiting here and it did not disappoint. The food was cooked to perfection and the service was excellent. Lots of choice on the menu and great value for money. Will most certainly be going again to taste some more of the delicious dishes.
d. a.
Good service food were reasonable and tasty
H. T.
The food was great would give a 5 star, but one of the waitresses was very rude. The rest were lovely !
D. R.
Lovely food. Definitely worth a visit
B. R.
Great food and staff ,going back again.
G. N.
This was my favourite dining experience in my 3 night stay in York. As a solo customer, this is where I received the best service. I walked-in early evening (tip for solo customers, treat yourself to an early dinner e.g. 5pm-6pm before the rush of diners and you’ll almost always get a spot at even the most popular places), and was shown to a comfortable tucked away table looking out over the restaurant. The front of house waiter went above and beyond to ensure I felt welcomed and just as valued as the pairs and groups in the restaurant. They encouraged me take my time to enjoy my meal and put a massive smile on my face, which of course, resulted in me spending more. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere was relaxed and full of laughter, which, observing the room, was in major part because the lead waiter took the time to make everyone smile with his excellent service. Warm decor and ambiance,it’s easy to see that this restaurant would be a great location for dates, friends, families and even the solo customer. There’s three floors, including a terrace, so plenty of space too. I had the duck break and tarte tatin - both delicious.
J. M.
Excellent food, great decor, helpful & friendly staff. Will go back
s. d.
The food was amazing and service was great.... affordable and tasty... pop in and see for yourself.
C. C. G.
The food was very good, well priced, clean and good customer service
F. J.
First time here and what a find. Fantastic choice of food on the menu. A la carte or two or three course set meals. Lovely staff and very professional. Very busy night but service was prompt. Excellent meal, and will definitely go again.
J. H.
Wow we loved this place, the service was second to none.
The food was really good the French onion soup was really nice. A great Saturday night atmosphere and would go back
d. c.
Food amazing and service was great.
A. E.
Brilliant French food. One of the best restaurants in York. Great set menu.
S. P.
Walked in without a reservation and was able to have an amazing dinner. I ordered the fillet cooked rare. It was so good. Finished off with a pot au chocolat! Great food and excellent service too.
D. S.
Would definitely recommend a visit here, lovely restaurant with great & attentive staff & superb food.
C. S.
Absolutely amazing.. really friendly and attentive.. 1st class delicious food... great value for money. Would thoroughly recommend without a doubt
M.
They have a great set menu (provided you're not veggie or vegan, but perhaps there's more variety on the main menu) and friendly staff. Would definitely go there again
S. C.
Lovely terrace upstairs. Attentive, intelligent service, and complimentary bread and olives tonight (for some reason!). Lovely food. Sophisticated and not too pricey xx
K. H.
Superb, recommended to all, can't wait to visit again.
P. T.
Great food and service on a traditional French menu, without breaking the bank. Portions are perfectly sized. Wine menu while not massive is appropriate for the menu. Well thought out. Will return.
C. W.
Nice fixed price meal in nice surroundings helpful courteous staff the only reason for not giving 5 stars was my steak wasn't the best cut
D. M.
Wonderful food in a lovely atmosphere. Beautifully decorated throughout this restaurant is well worth a visit. £16.95 for a two course set meal. A big choice of starters and main courses. Generous portions and our group of six all ate different dishes and without exception, agreed that the standard was extremely high. Oh, and the staff were delightful too. Highly recommended.
J. B.
Fantastic food brilliant service and good value for money
S. T.
Absolutely delicious food, good value, excellent service and great atmosphere. Can't recommend it enough!
A. B.
Excellent service and food. Staff were very friendly. The waiting time was very good and the decor plus spacious setting all made it a great experience. Highly recommend a visit
J. T.
We have just had a 5 day break in York and we ate at this restaurant 2 of the nights and it had been recommended by a lady at the hotel we were staying in. We booked for upstairs and both nights we had the set menu . Excellent food well presented . Excellent customer service . Spotlessly clean .(even the toilets were spotless). Couldn't fault it both nights . Well organised. Would highly recommend this place .
J. H.
Very nice. Fantastic set menu, very good value for money. Lovely friendly staff.
I will definitely be going again!
E. P.
Fantastic food and service.
Had the 3 course lunch special. Excellent value for money.
Can't wait to return.
B. D.
Great menus at reasonable prices
R. R.
Been only 4 times but the hospitality is superb and the French food is very tasty too!
m.
The food was great but the service was even better. The manager got us a seat at a next door bar for after our meal. It was brilliant!
A. T.
Absolutely the best meal we have ever had! All three courses we had were so flavoursome. The staff were attentive but not in your face and the selection of drinks were great. We opted for the set menu...three courses for £19.95; AMAZING!!! Will definately be returning very soon 100%
A.
The starter was really good. The main course was not great, but maybe could have chosen a different dish. However, the duck leg wasn't crispy at all on the outside and the sauce was lacking in taste.
J. P.
Spent weekend in York and booked Rustique for an early dinner...took opportunity of set menu and had a lovely meal..I had steak and chips for main and was probably one of the nicest steaks I have had cooked perfectly. Nice atmosphere..good service..would go again if in York.
R. B.
Highly recommend this place, the food is too quality - you can tell that the ingredients they use and the way they cook it is a cut above the standard you'd normally expect. Set menu is quite good value too.
S. N.
Amazing food and service.. Beautiful, full of flavour and 2 courses for 15.99 x
P. B.
Poor food and smaller portions than norm
Disappointed
J. G.
Fabulous lunch with friends...food, wine and service was excellent. A beautiful refurbishment too. Thank you.
D. S.
Excellent food, super nice staff :)

The stall were amazing, Andrea's was great and very attentive 😁
G. S.
Went here for my birthday...absolutely loved the food and ambience...fantastic service...cant wait to go again
E. O.
Fantastic food and staff. Our waitress was lovely, the meal was fantastic, the price phenomenal for what we got. I have nothing bad to say about this place. I got the beef stew and it was great. The French onion soup was also great. I'm still laughing at the way they listed desserts, 'Le Sticky Toffee Pudding'. Which was also the best sticky toffee pudding I had in England.
a. w.
Absolutely worth waiting for, 3 course meals for £20 each in the middle of york for such fine cuisine was such a lucky find.
Every morsel that past my lips was such a delight, I can't wait to return here, top marks from me guys
Y.
Very good service tonight (and every other time we have been). Despite it being a Saturday night and having come without a booking, the staff communicate with each other to see how they could arrange a table for us 4. Service was great, really friendly and polite. We had a bottle of Shiraz, 4 mains and 4 deserts between us for £100, so £25 per head approximately. Food was delicious, always worth it. It was a bit too loud because it was busy, but still, lovely experience as usual.
j. c.
The food was amazing. The staff were fantastic and our lady waiter so professionally polite and lovely. 10 out of 10 and highly recommended.
J. B.
Lovely place to eat 😋
H. S.
Love this restaurant. Have visited many times. Food excellent. Lovely friendly staff. Make you feel very special and good for children.
N. C.
Excellent well prepared food and good service too. Would recommend.
P. R.
Very good food and very affordable. If you're expecting traditional French though, that is not the place.
D. K.
Lovely food, great atmosphere
H. B.
Lovely atmosphere and good food
A. W.
Fantastic meal as always. Just a shame that some don't understand the concept of Al fresco dining. Asking for the canopy to be pulled over on the roof terrace. Thankfully that was resolved quickly.
P. I.
A carafe of wine 2 off 3 courses set menu £60. Great value for excellent food and great service. Highly recommended.
J. L.
We made a reservation for my husband’s birthday and it was wonderful. I asked for a seat upstairs near the outside terrace as well as champagne when we arrived and they accommodated both requests. We also brought along our 11 month old, as we are traveling and do not have a sitter, and we felt comfortable having her there. The staff is great and very welcoming. The food was outstanding as was the service. We ordered from the set menu and it was a great choice. 😊 I would highly recommend it to anyone for any occasion, or no occasion at all!
H. L.
Great restaurant, beautiful ambiance with staff that were really helpful. Service was quick but friendly. I ate off the set menu and the food was absolutely gorgeous. Totally recommend and will come back again the next time I'm in York :)
H. F.
Staff lovely food delicious and thank you for the fruit it made our day
J. D.
Had a lovely lunchtime for a friend's 70 th birthday, staff very attentive and food lovely. Thank you
S. d.
The nicest restaurant in York. Amazing place and value for money.
D. A. H.
Amazing French food with great service
J. S.
Food was again fantastic. The service left a little to be desired. The waitress who came to take our drink order seemed more interested in the next table. When we wanted to order dessert one waiter told us he was a little bit busy. It was a Monday evening & the restaurant was full. We had a table upstairs where it was beautifully bright but a large group came in & it then became difficult to hold a conversation without speaking quite loudly so we could hear each other.
I plan to book another evening next month with family as i still think it is one of the best restaurants in town.
D. W.
I've not been here for around 10 years, and dropped in for the set menu. It really did not disappoint, with really excellent quality and portion sizes.
A real gem of a resteraunt
E. C.
Great food. Always get the steak decent price and staff are always really nice.
Update- went again on Saturday. First time not using the set menu. Me and my partner both got the 12oz ribeye. Was cooked perfectly and they even whipped up us both some garlic butter as that's what we prefer on out steaks. Waiter was excellent and happy to serve us. Always love coming here.
L. R.
Amazing food. Cannot recommend this place enough. Have been a couple of times now and will definitely be back xx
d. r.
Had a meal here this afternoon with my wife and 2 yr old daughter. Felt a little nervy about taking a two year old but the staff were welcoming and friendly. The food and service was excellent. The value for money, £18 for three courses, of such quality, wow is all I can say. Highly highly recommend.
K. M.
Our first visit but would definately recommend. Fabulous food served promptly by busy waiters. Book in advance though as restaurant was busy.
M. M.
Great food, lovely atmosphere and nice staff every time we have been for lunch or tea. Would recommend due to price-quality and variaty their set menu
K. M.
Excellent menu and fantastic food with attentive friendly service
V. m.
Lovely haven't been for a few years went in for a Monday night meal. We both had a really good meal the duck and the beef both beautifully done. Definitely would recommend this place nice little French gem.
S. M.
A really lovely, intimate and welcoming restaurant. The food is delicious and not overly expensive and there is a full and expansive wine / drinks list. I've been with friends, work colleagues and my children on separate occasions and all were equally wowed by the experience.
K. R.
Excellent quality and value set menu nice atmosphere
L. B.
There is a good deal for lunchtime and evening with a 2 or 3 course meal. The goats cheese starter was excellent and the steak frites was fabulous. It was cooked perfectly and the pepper sauce was tasty. The service is good and the restaurant looks beautiful - very French. It's a reliable restaurant for an affordable tasty meal.
I. H.
Me and my partner had a lovely meal on our visit to york
D. D.
Don’t normally do ratings but this restaurant is excellent. Authentic French cuisine without being pretentious. Great staff and the fixed price menu is exceptional value for money. Food served on plates, not lumps of wood, slate or buckets. Can’t recommend it highly enough. Oh yes, you don’t have to ask for water from a tap. Remember that?
R. L.
Delicious food and excellent service. I was breastfeeding in the restaurant and the staff were extremely attentive, offering to reheat my food if it was left to get cold and also ensuring that my glass of water was always full without needing to ask. Very impressed and a very enjoyable experience.
K. D.
Ate here last weekend during our visit to York. The service is attentive and professional, the food is good. I know it is worrying times at the moment eating out but this restaurant gave us confidence to do this for the first time since lockdown. Thank you Rustique, we are never disappointed when we visit you.
B. N.
Great food and service.
The staff were great and the meals were stunning, great prices
S. M.
Went to Rustuque with 6 family members on 2/2/20 . Food and ambience was excellent. Had fixed menu, good choice and good value. for the money. Staff were very good. Would recommend to anyone who likes French cuisine. Will definitely be going again.
k. e.
Another delicious meal at rustique, we had the pork shank which was a large portion the meat fell of the bone. And they sang happy birthday for my partner which was a nice touch. This place never dissapoints
D. H.
Couldn't fault Rustique. From start to finish, from service to the food everything was fantastic. It was our first visit and we weren't disappointed and we will absolutely be back. Thank you 😁
K.
Love this place, never a bad meal.
The food is very nice,i enjoy the steak mostly, but all the food is equally as nice
My friend & i come here twice a year & my husband & I come here often.
The service is very good, staff always helpful, reasonably priced food.
Amazing place.Thanks
E. J.
Brilliant first time visit. Great staff and food. So glad we went.
M. a. M. B.
Central location, close to Jorvic Centre.
Exceptional food, we went again the night after our first visit. Reasonable prices, too.
Friendly staff and excellent service. Highly recommended. Try roasted brie and the sea bass with sweet potato mash.
Gets busy so book up early!
D. L. H. S. a. m.
This restaurant is perfect. Friendly staff who smile, joke and accommodate you so well. And the food... well I had the duck which was sublime ... and the wine was spot on. Beautiful restaurant and the reason I did not give it 5 was I don’t really give anything 5 😂. Thank you for making our stay in York even more enjoyable.
A. D. (. L.
I love this restaurant. Usually go with a big crowd and we are looked after brilliantly. Menu is varied with lots of lovely sounding dishes to choose from. I can find meals that are fairly diet friendly if I want to but the desserts are soooo tempting and delicious. One time we did have a problem with a dish but it was rectified Very quickly with no argument
D. H.
Lively atmosphere and good food. We were upstairs. I'm glad we were as the room opens outside. It was a warm night so the fresh air lovely.
B. I.
Honestly can't fault the place.. Fantastic steak, mussels galore, and duck cooked to perfection.. Spotlessly clean (to be fair, it was pre Covid too).. 4 starters, meals, drinks, and deserts for the same price as a chinese takeaway banquet.. Service always spot on, and lovely interior (we were upstairs) too.
P. S.
If possible eat on the terrace upstairs, it's delightful. The food was very good and excellent value for money If you get the set menu.
S. G.
This place is excellent. Extremely good value for money, staff are fantastic. We ate here twice in 3 days and will go back again next time we're in York. Good selection of wines too.
N. S.
Good food, well cooked, friendly helpful service in a lovely atmosphere. A la carte menu stays the same, but not a bad thing as the dishes are delicious, but a bit more variety in the vegetarian mains would be good. This is our go-to for a couples meal out
A. A.
Best restaurant of the 3 we visited on a York mini break. Varied menu, lively atmosphere and the food was excellent. Would recommend and if we return to York, would be first on our list.
S. G.
Great place to eat. Lovely staff and always fit us into the restaurant even if we have not booked. My best place ever in York. But now with the Covid going on, I ring up and book a table in advance. Which is wise to do. Playing it safe. So please stick to the rules.
J. W.
Great atmosphere and service. Busy service may have affected the quality of the food. Still excellent and great value.
J. T.
Very warm atmosphere, staff is attentive and chatty without being intrusive. The service was fine, with just the right time between courses. Food was excellent, and at £15.95 for three courses not expensive, and portions are a good size. We will definitely be back!
L. B.
Visit here was unplanned as we wanted to make up for a disappointing visit to a french restaurant the previous evening. So glad we did as this will be on our agenda next time we visit York. Attentive, friendly staff, amazing food and wonderful atmosphere, just as it should be. Could not fault a thing, wonderful evening.
M. W.
Had a brilliant meal. The food was exceptional and great service. Would definitely go again.
S. M.
This was our favourite dining experience but the last two visits have proved disappointing. We went last night and I had steak. Although cooked nicely the steak itself was tough and tasteless and, thankfully, quite small. Whilst the menu looks to be reasonably priced once you start adding veg at £3.50 a time the cost quickly escalates and proves less than good value (£3.50 for a small portion of green beans!). The other aspect which I've not notice before is the noise level. Tge restaurant wasn't particularly full but the conversations of others seem to reverberate around the whole dining area giving a works canteen sort of ambiance. When paying I was asked if we'd enjoyed the meal, my wife and daughter confirmed they had and I raised my concerns regarding the size, toughness, quality of the steak. They're apparently going to take it up with their suppliers which certainly made up for my disappointing meal, not. As we've used this restaurant for many years I guess we'll give it one more visit over the coming months but it will have to up its game if further visits were to follow.
H. J.
The set menu was superb value for money. All 3 courses were excellent. The rump steak was cooked perfectly and was of a high quality. Service was prompt, efficient and friendly. Highly recommend 💯
f. w.
My wife and I had lunch on Wednesday 16th June we normally eat at Cote if we fancy French food so this was our first visit and what a pleasure we both had Croque Monsieur which was accompanied with fries and salad served beautifully on the plate all delicious and quite large portions the choice of an Argentine Malbec washed it down and left tastebuds buzzing we finished with great cappuccino coffees. The staff were attentive without intruding and provided a safe environment and atmosphere.
Rustique offers wine by the glass, Karafe or bottle which is something more restaurants should do and another nice gesture offering not just French wines but wines from around the world which is another clever idea.
This restaurant is a gem much larger inside that it looks from the outside and giving a great rural French experience easily one of the finest restaurants in York and one we shall visit again next week and hopefully enjoy more than one course but then depending on portion size.
Highly recommend.
