If you really enjoy authentic spicey Indian food, this is probably the most exciting restaurant in York. You see, the other restaurants follow the same styles and menu yet here at Taas the dishes are more authentic, varied and frankly intriguing. I invited my close friends Mark and Suz and my cousin Sue to join me for a meal last night. It was my treat. Frankly, I couldn't believe the price - it was such amazing value! We sat at a corner table and chatted as the food arrived. The starters were all vegan and amazingly tasty and different. Then I had the veg Annapurna main - a mix of small dishes almost like a taster plate. The waiter asked me on a "scale of 1 to 10, how hot would I like it?" "10" I said. It was perfectly done. The service was good too. If you're reading this then you're obviously looking for an Indian style food and if you choose to come here you won't be disappointed with the food or the service, I promise.

What a fantastic restaurant! The hosts were very warm and welcoming. The food is incredible. Definitely some of the tastiest food I’ve ever eaten. An 8 on the hosts heat scale turned out the perfect balance of flavour and spice for me and my wife. The Everest lager on offer is far superior to cobra in my opinion. All this for a very affordable price. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Was a bit concerned about finding somewhere to eat so late on a Thursday evening when I stumbled across this place. 15 minutes before last orders they were more than happy to seat us which was a relief. The welcome we received was really warm and friendly. I usually check reviews before eating anywhere however due to circumstances just came here off the cuff and it was great. I had the korma and my partner had the pork belly. We were impressed that you could choose your spice level. I order the Taas unique cocktail which was really good. The food was delicious, service was great overall would really recommend this place.

We ventured in to taas as it was the highest rated near us, booked a table and off we went, as turned up we were hesitant as thought it looked a bit dicey from the outside but all the good reviews can't be wrong surely, and no they were not! The food is absolutely great, you get an option from 1-10 on spiciness so you're food is catered to your taste and it delivers spectacularly. The service is also really friendly and genuinely pleasant, it doesn't feel forced. When back in the area will visit again!

Stunning food. Ordered from here online once for delivery, and it was so good that I ordered it again for a big family dinner when the folks were down. Collected the order on the second time and the staff/owners(?) are really friendly and the place looks really cozy for a sit in meal with them. Will definitely return!!

Found this little restaurant whilst out looking for some where nice to eat, its very small inside but the service was great, waiter asks heat level on a scale of 1-10, i ordered the gurkha on scale 8, it was perfect! Decor a little dated however this has no impact on the food right?! Service was excellent & so was the food, we will definitely visit again.

Saw something some random guy was eating that looked nice through the window. Went in bought 2 starters (the size of a main at somewhere dead posh and better tasting) some rice and a pot of some curry thing and it was all utterly spectacular! Definitely recommend.

Me and my partner went while staying in York on a little trip. The place had a lovely atmosphere and the gentleman that seated us was amazing! The server asked us how hot we would like our food on a scale of 1-10 which was really helpful for us. The portions are big for the price!! First time at TAAS tonight, visiting from the North East. Really nice friendly welcome, staff couldn't have been more helpful while we were selecting our food. Garlic prawns starter was simply beautiful followed by Gurkha prawn curry with rice and Jan bread. This is the first time that I have been to a Nepalese restaurant and was amazed at the food, it's like a mix between Indian and Chinese and tasted fantastic. My wife and I had starters, mains, afters and drinks for £60 can't be bad. Would recommend this place to anyone.

The restaurant is spotlessly clean and the food was gorgeous. The owner is very friendly and helpful, he asked us at least twice if we were happy with our food or if we needed anything. When ordering your meal, you get the option of how spicy you want it from 1-10, which we thought was a good idea as you can get it just right. I chose the sizzling platter, which was really delicious along with a side order of chips to be extra naughty!! Would highly recommend this restaurant.

This is the nicest Indian restaurant I’ve ever tasted. The food was simply amazing had lots of taste and was cooked to perfection. We tried a variety of dishes and each one was beautiful. Not your run of the mill curry house. Short but very good menu. Choice of spice heat (for me, they could just trust the chef). We had a superb thali. Attentive and efficient front of house staff.

Food okay here, it's quite small inside but cozy all the same. We went on a particularly cold night and although we were seated near a radiator and a hot air fan I was still cold but as I say the food was nice if a tad hot but that was my fault for ordering a lamb curry and to be fair on the guy who served us he did ask me how spicy hot I'd like it on a scale of 1 to 10, I should have said 5 instead of 6 but we will dine here again as we liked the ambiance of the place.

Visited Taas for a birthday lunch, I arrived to flowers, balloons and a card, it was a lovely touch. The food is fantastic, I love the flavour but I'm not a fan of really hot/spicy food, staff were so kind and made sure it was too much. Can't praise the staff enough, the gentleman serving us was friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be going there again.

My Wife and I visited this restaurant recently and WOW!!! A truly wonderful, great tasting experience. Service with a smile, drinks not overpriced, small, quaint restaurant. We both had a starter and a Nepal curry dish. I have to be honest. It was probably the best tasting curry I've ever had. I would highly recommend this place to curry experts.

Nice foodmy lamb was a little chewy but my wife's dumplings were excellent. Waiter wasn't the most polite at first, but fine. We have a TasteCard giving 2 for 1 meals. When the bill came, the sides were charged in full. They clearly thought this was the case as their had a print out (from their website?) saying what was excluded. However on TasteCard website, they have Terms and Conditions giving exemptions, but no mention of sides. Waiter then was pretty rude initially refusing to reduce. Then when we showed Ts & Cs on TasteCard app, manhandled our phone to look. Not cool at the best of times. Very bad during an international pandemic when he wasn't wearing gloves! Eventually conceded and brought new bill. Still 50p too expensive, but we let that slide. Also saw him take card machine with other customer's card in it away from the customer, much to her dismay, who told him that he mustn't do that. We realised after leaving that they didn't collect any details for NHS Track & Trace and had no system for doing doappeared that no-one was asked. In summary, good food but rule breaking, a bit rude and try to get away with over charging. Without the issues, would've been 4*sjust maybe even 5

Pressed wrong thing and deleted my first review , but booked for 9 people and every dish we ordered came out to perfection , can't folt this place . Just been back again 4 of us and just as good as first time , food fantastic , staff ace . Very helpful when you are trying to decide . willing do Curry's to the heat you want 1to10 . All other dishes very tasty and well cooked and well presented . Clean and tidy . Toilets clean but be careful on the steps ,old building Definitely recommend to locales and visitors ...... December 2nd had two delivery meals from here , just the same as eating in . Excellent quality . Heaven on a plate 😋

(Visited Dec 2019) As this place is on tastecard, I visited with a couple of friends for tea. It’s a small restaurant, so I would book a table to be sure. Two of us went for Chicken Tikka Massala. I would have appreciated another couple of pieces of chicken, but the thick, creamy sauce had a lovely rich, mild taste and there was plenty for dipping my garlic Naan into (we got a Naan each; they came in quartered slices). The server offered to make one of the dishes vegan for our other friend. We shared two portions of Pilau rice between us. I’d give top marks for service without a doubt. The staff were smiley, chatty and very accommodating. The music being played in the restaurant was a little…odd. At one point it sounded like elevator music and kind of distracted us from our dining experience. The soft drinks are inexpensive, and since the tastecard essentially got us one free meal, we each paid about £13.00 overall, which is very good value. I would definitely return!

I took my mother here. The staff were wonderful, accommodating her wheelchair without any fuss and were careful to point out that their loo involved steps. We've eaten here twice in the last month-- lunch (weekends only) and dinner. Also, we had several dishes delivered a day ago; the two foody couples sharing it with us were impressed. The restaurant is small (though I believe they have another room for parties of 10-20 people), the menu is varied but with options for vegetarians, allergies, and heat level (plus a children's menu), and the service is excellent. Taas Restaurant is a real find!

WOW WOW WOW, A gem in York. I am still amazed by the standard and freshness of the food. I had a Gurkha chicken curry spicy level 8 with pilau rice and garlic naan. The flavour was superb throughout, and the naans the best I've tasted in any restaurant, 10/10. My wife had the seabass, perfectly presented and cooked with a lime butter sauce, followed by fresh fruit salad of grape, banana, tangerine and apple. 10/10 Washed down with an Italian pinot grigio. The waiter was right, "very nice food" I would heartily recommend this place.

Amazing food and service, prawn and chicken tikka starters were perfection! Had the Gurkha chicken which was cooked medium spice which was so flavourful and perfectly balanced in flavors with the veg rice and sweet naan. All in all a perfect meal and a refreshing change to standard Indian food with the addition of the Nepalese influence and not all swimming in oil. Some people don't always like a change from the norm but for us we'll be back many times!!!

We really enjoyed the food here! I had the Thali with chicken curry and garlic naan and it was delicious! The family running the restaurant was very friendly and answered all our questions. You can choose your spice level of 1 to 10. If you're wanting flavor, you should definitely eat here!!
