Very good Fish and Chips. Cooked to order. Same price to eat in as takeout. The owner recommended today's Cod and it was very nice. Friendly and a very pleasant space upstairs. Right next to a large car park and just a couple on minutes walk from the Minster. Would totally visit again.

The fried fish was fresh and the bread coating was crispy and the thinnest I have ever tried so far. It'd just locked the delicious taste of the juicy fish. However, the manager is advised not to put the raw chicken nuggets next to the ice-cream. Yes, that's a hygiene issue need to be improved.

A very great food. Best fish and chips i had in the uk so far and they have discounts for students and also offers for regular people. The fish is fresh, the chips yummy. And the service is very great and awesome services, they really take care of you and keep checking if you're fine or if your need something else. This place is my York fish and chips place.

This used to be great. Maybe it still is if you eat in. I live just a few minutes away and have ordered from here using Deliveroo a number of times and it's always been very good. Tonight it wasn't unfortunately, both the fish and chips tasted fine and big portions too but were undercooked by a fair bit resulting in soggy slimy batter and soggy chips. Not pleasant. Hopefully a one off, I'll maybe try them again.

We live in France but thanks to Covid have been unable for 2 years to visit this fabulous fish and chip shop. When we arrived tonight I just stood at the door to smell this special place. A warm genuine welcome as always fro Sean and his top draw staff. Dinners for 8 served upstairs, piping hot, great portions and top quality. Very reasonable bill for a delicious treat.

Great little chippie serving quality fish and chips with a range of alternatives too - burgers, chicken nuggets and the like. Some seating upstairs and in the front downstairs. Chips crisp on the outside and fluffy inside as they should be, nice flavour too. The fish was a nice tasty piece of haddock, the batter was crisp and just the right thickness. The mushy peas were OK, there were definitely peas and not just mush in there, but a bit too much sugar too for my palate. At the time of visiting they had the highest Google rating I could find for fish & chip shops in York, and they lived up to that score on this occasion.

The food is ALWAYS fresh and tasty, everything I've tried here is exactly like proper traditional fish and chip shop food should be, and for such cheap and affordable prices. However, THE most worthy of 5*, going beyond the food, is the staff. They are consistently happy and helpful, always remember my face and even my order. They go out of their way to make sure I'm satisfied and offer free condiments hand in hand with a big smile. They chat while they work and keep up a happy environment while you wait (which isn't long!). Thank you so much for your service, all of you.

I ate there last time I went to York, and these fish n chips definitely explain why fish n chips up north are so good. It's just something with the ingredients in the batter, the way it's deep fried, and the high quality ingredients and the freshness of the fish, and chips too. You can tell that the people at The sea catcher really take pride in their food and really care about the customers being happy. The reason some restaurants are awful is because you can tell that the people that work there don't care and have no respect for themselves or the customers.

Firstly, VEGETARIAN people - they fry the veggie stuff (including chips) in VEGETABLE OIL! Secondly, non-veggies they do fry other stuff in beef dripping so the fish etc tastes really good!
