My dad, uncle and aunt are all at the Village Green care home. My dad has severe dementia and is looked after wonderfully. I know my dad would appreciate how he is being looked after if he was able to speak. No one wants their relative to end up in a care home but honestly I am happy for him to be here. All the staff are happy and know everyone’s names and talk to them and spend time with them. The home is always thinking of new ways to improve the life of everyone staying there and new activities are added all the time to keep everyone entertained. The home is kept very clean. Thank you to all the staff!!

Having read the reviews I was a little hesitant at first for my step father to be coming here for end of life care. He wanted to come here as it was the closest one to me, so wanted to give it a chance. Having not been to a care home before I’d not known what to expect. Once he’d settled & we’d both got used to how everything works etc it was great. All the staff that had helped in his care & some that I’d just got used to seeing through being there every day for nearly 3weeks were truly wonderful! They made me feel so comfortable & that if I or my step father needed anything they would be there. He’d been used to certain things at the hospital which they didn’t have, but ordered in, he wasn’t the easiest of patients & they had a laugh with him, he was in a lot of pain & unable to move a lot so they would pop in & see him. I could tell that the nurses & care staff cared & wanted him to be as comfortable/happy as possible for his time there. Thank you to all the staff for the care & compassion they showed to my step father & the family.

As a family, we simply cannot fault the facilities, the staff and the care that my Dad, Reg, received whilst living at VIllage Green. His story there is a long one. After much searching, the original Old Village School was chosen as his place of care. Great staff, good facilities, a bright and airy place - all we could have hoped for. During his time in their care, both as a respite unit and one of permanent residency, his care was second to none - we had no issues with the home in the slightest. In fact, we can’t praise them higher. When my Dad was taken to hospital due to suffering a completely unexpected ‘fit’, a carer from the home accompanied him, they visited him out of their normal working hours and checked on his progress before being released. Unfortunately, for reasons still completely unknown to us and for which we are completely bemused, it closed overnight. The team did everything they could to keep it open, but the authorities won - meaning vulnerable and extremely poorly residents were turfed out of their home in the middle of the night, transported to places far and wide across the close counties. We were lucky, to a certain extent. My Dad was sent close to our home and easy to visit, but the home was poor. This meant that my mother flatly refused to visit due to the poor quality, poor care and terrible surroundings of his new placement. We were interviewed by local press where we put our views across in the strongest of terms, feeling the closure was unjust, badly organised and, most importantly detrimental to the health and welfare of the residents and in particular, my Dad. So, we went in search for a new care home, but we kept a close eye on The Old Village School to see whether it would re-open, visiting regularly to see the progress. We learned that The Old Village School (now Village Green) would re-open, under great scrutiny from the authorities. As soon as we heard, we wanted him to go back - there was no hesitation in our thought, there was no reason for wanting him to go anywhere else and we made our thoughts known to the authorities. It wasn’t easy, but with the assistance of the home’s management and owners, he was given a place. Following a visit to the ‘new’ version of the home, we couldn’t have been happier. We chose a new room - something larger and more bright and airy than his previous room and wanted him back as soon as we could. He moved in, as one of only two initial residents and we simply felt that he’d returned home. The care he’s received from the staff is second to none. The food he’s eaten is all freshly prepared, specifically for him - considering he required (at his later stages) a puree diet, he ate the same as everyone else, just in puree form. His room was always clean and bright. The staff managed his care to the highest standard, looking after his every need - including putting music on in his room, putting DVDs on for him to watch or simply recognising when he’s tired and needs to rest. We were always informed at every point when we needed to know something and were as involved in his care as we possibly could be. When he initially returned, having spent nearly a year in his previous placement, he was withdrawn, not speaking and in a much worse condition. The staff at Village Green brought him back to life thanks to their level of care and persistence. The staff at Village Green are uniformed and easily recognised and each and every one gives the care that people deserve - to be treated with respect and dignity, but most of all, just to be cared for when they are at their most vulnerable. We would like to thank the staff and owners for all they have done for us as a family, but most importantly, what they did for my Dad.
