G. B.What a brilliant time had at Meridian Handpans and the Handpan Academy Bristol this weekend at the Beginners weekend course. You’ve not lived until you’ve had the chance to Jam as a Handpan group and that’s exactly what we did! Welcoming, kind, supportive, encouraging - Marketa and Duncan were a pleasure as our hosts. The training will give you the perfect introduction to Handpan playing and the chance to try several scales of instrument if you’re interested to buy your own (you’ll want to). No musical experience required. The behind the scenes tour was very interesting and humbling to learn what effort and mastery goes in to the hand crafting of each beautiful instrument - Duncan is a metal wizard! 10 out of 10 to Meridian - and I bought my first Handpan with great support, patience and useful advice from Marketa and Duncan. Visit this wonderful team… you won’t regret it :)
T. M.Very enjoyable and relaxing, and really informative, including on their manufacture - full of admiration for Duncan and the instruments he crafts! Main aim was to familiarise myself with the instruments, try the different scales, finally decide on whether to buy and if so, which. All achieved, now a delighted owner. V.the Handpan Academy is one of those if not secret, discreet jewels that Bristol has to offer. a place where one feels safe to learn an out-of-this-world instrument with incredible sounds, actually see how the instruments are made, go for live concerts… I have already taken two workshops there and I learnt so much, and had so much fun in the process! thanks again, guys, you are amazing! highly recommend to anyone who fell in love with handpans or simply has an interest in music.
P. N.I went there for a weekend workshop with Marketa and really loved it. I didn't have any experience with the handpan before so I wasn't sure if I will be able to play the instrument but Marketa showed us simple techniques to start and with a little practise we were able to do some jamming together which sounded so beautiful :) Both Marketa - the teacher and Duncan - handpan manufacturer are very nice and helpful. I am choosing which handpan to buy at the moment and I wasn't planning to buy one before but I have fallen in love with the sound at the workshop :)
J. M.Zero to jamming together in two days and an incredible and inspiring process getting there. We were diverse in terms of age, knowledge and skills (preteen to 60, some with drumming experience) and Marketa met all of our varying needs and wants. It was such a worthwhile experience.
