My first experience of subSine Academy was at the beginning of first lockdown after purchasing an online creators course with in-depth training on how to write and structure a track from scratch, start to finish. Each Module was broke down into easy to follow short video tutorials and taught by Simon effortlessly to help me understand Ableton and how to use it properly. I was hoping to sign up to the Soma Skool but as I live quite far away at the moment (Aberdeen) it just wasn't practical for me. Instead I am now a good few sessions into a period of 1-1 tuition from Simon at Shoogle Studios and I'm loving it. Simon is a great tutor, understands his craft completely and is engaging to be taught by. I've only had 3 1-1 sessions and I'm already learning a lot about electronic music production. The studio is also a superb place to be. Looking forward to lots more Studio sessions. I'm pretty much a beginner when it comes to music production and Simon has put me at ease totally. I can't recommend Shoogle Studios highly enough. I'm also studying the beginners electronic music production course and I'm really enjoying it. If you're looking at any of the courses then go for it, you won't regret it. I have just finished the Ableton live-introducer course and I highly recommend it. As much as everyone would like to think they can teach themselves how to do everything online nowadays it will never be like the classes you will go to here. It's so worth the money and your time. Simon is a very knowledgable teacher who obviously has many years of experience. He will teach you everything step by step in the right order where it's not confusing or hard to understand at all. He will also give you many notes at the end of each class based on that session that you can always refer to. To top that off you can also access the online courses for reference if you get stuck. It's the whole package really. It was the best class I have ever been to and Simon is the best teacher I have ever had.

I can not properly explain how great a tutor Simon is & the class he runs at his award winning studio. I attended the Introducer course and now have gone on to secure numerous releases with several labels. For me the classes were fun,interesting and very informative, this course is unique in the sense that it specifically gets into the nitty gritty of producing and covers perfectly all the elements of Ableton that you need to know to get you started producing straight out the box. I hope anyone reading this has already booked a place on this course because if not you are missing out for sure. I recommend this course to anyone who wants to become involved in producing music as it is made easy by Simon and his method of teaching is tailored to each individual student.He even manages to listen to and feedback honestly to each and every student. Just finished the excellent evening Introducer course. I’d been meaning to enrol in Shoogle for a while, but kept wanting to finish various free online courses first, got distracted, back to square one, repeat. If you’ve been putting it off too, just do it, you won’t regret it. I only wish I’d done it sooner, learned more in the first week of this course than I did in two years. About the course itself, I loved everything about it. Simon is a brilliant teacher, incredibly knowledgeable and easy going with a really engaging teaching style. The class environment was also great to learn in, enjoyed being able to share my progress with like-minded people each week. Was a good laugh too! I purchased the online training course for Ableton Live and have spent the last few months watching the lessons several times over. Simon does a fantastic job of explaining the workings of Ableton and also throws in many useful tips for shortcuts, creativity and music production in general. He has an excellent teaching style and really leaves you excited to practice what has been learned. I think I have watched several of the videos about 4 times over at this point and I think I learn something new each time. Really has been the best money I have spent in terms of learning the software. I should add that even if you have no experience in music production, this course will have you up and running in no time. My only regret now is that living in Canada, it would be difficult to attend one of the in person training courses that Shoogle offer. Based on the online course, the in person training must be really special. Highly recommended.

I attended the Weekend Producer Course at Shoogle Studios in February 2017. Simon Stokes is both an incredibly adept musician and a fantastic tutor, making this course absolutely essential for anyone interested in taking their knowledge of Ableton and music production to the next level. Simon has a particular talent for taking quite complex topics and presenting them with an ease of understanding to the group, and has really helped me improve my understanding of Live’s inner workings. Over the two-day course a huge volume of material was covered, but it always felt like there was time to explore tangents, questions and ideas from the group. Simon was able to give really useful advice on pretty much everything; complex sound design, field recording in sound design, live set-ups, correct microphone choice, working with and processing audio, click tracks for live bands – the list goes on. For me it’s his insider knowledge and wealth of musical experience that makes the course so valuable. I simply cannot recommend this highly enough! Thanks Simon!

If you are interested in or have dabbled in any music production using digital audio workstations such as Ableton and would like to learn more then you should take up a class at subSine academy. The courses on offer are tailored to whatever level you are currently at in making electronic based music production from beginner through to mastering or even modular synthesis/sound design. Each programme is taught by highly experienced tutors running either as one evening a week for nine weeks or condensed into two full day weekenders, whatever suits for time and travel. Every stage of learning is supplemented with easy to refer to comprehensive course notes and students are given practical tasks to create their own material based off what they've learnt during each stage of the lessons. You will also meet a network of likeminded people who all share the same passion in music irrelevant of genre/influences. Following on from completing one of the courses you can share your ideas, troubleshoot problems with tutors/students through the subSine forums and have the opportunity for your own music to be released on the subSine label and or have it played on their own radio show. Not only this but Simon's teaching style is totally inclusive, it's such a relaxed atmosphere and I’ve made some good friends along the way. Having wanted to learn how to make electronic music for 20 years previously and after sitting all of the courses it has easily been the most fun learning experience I've ever had so couldn't recommend subSine academy enough. I started the introducer course off with no real teaching experience on DAW's other than the occasional youtube video and playing around with it myself. The best thing I found for me from the course was getting information in the order you should be learning it. Online 'How to' videos are great but they seldom offer any real constructive progression, this is where I found this course excelled giving me the right knowledge in the correct order I needed to learn it. Simon is a fantastic teacher and great guy, can honestly say there wasn't a single minute of the 8 weeks where I felt bored and any problems myself or the rest of the class had he helped to solve quickly and easily. His vast knowledge of the program shows and with someone who has many releases and is a Ableton Certified trainer your definitely going to be learning from someone who knows how to use the program to its full potential. Highly recommend it to anyone interested in becoming confident in the use of Ableton Live or furthering there skills on the Producers course.

Just finished (graduated i would say) my beginners 8 week course from Ableton, taught by Simon Stokes. The course is well laid out as are the course notes. Simon takes you further and further into music production week by week and is always very understanding and helpful when you become stuck or have problems. His knowledge of electronic music and Ableton shines through but his attitude to teaching doesn't make it daunting for beginners to ask questions or pick his brain. The studios has very good facilities and the learning room is ideal for this course. Course notes are handed out each week but the class isn't about reading, it's about learning with the notes to aid you when you go home. All in all I would recommend this course to anyone interested in making electronic dance music and wondering where to start.

Just recently finished the Live Introducer course with Simon at Shoogle Studios and loved it. Simon is a great guy and teacher who will make what ever time he can available to get you making your own tunes over the lessons. Always understanding to work commitments and never felt like there was too much information for me to handle. When having struggled with YouTube videos for years finally found a night course that didn't disappoint and now know my way around Ableton. Plenty of notes to look back on if i need to and having the Facebook page to get on to other students and Simon is a great add on. Harvey McKay came in for a lesson too and really opened my eyes to how flexible and how many different ways there are to use Live again all explained to a level I could understand. Literally couldnt recommend Soma Skool any higher. I done the ableton introducer course, I was a complete novice to music production/using a DAW. I've procrastinated for a long time about making music and figured this course might be the kick into gear I needed. Having someone so passionate with such vast wealth of experience, who happens to be completely down to earth is invaluable for this sort of thing, where feedback is extremely important. You will instantly feel at ease in Simons class, and you'll rapidly see progress from the first lesson, It will quickly become the highlight of your week. If you are serious about starting to produce, or already do but want an understanding of Ableton then this course is the perfect way to get the ball rolling. This is THE place go and learn about Ableton Live, and electronic music production in general. I went in knowing noting about Ableton and within weeks I had full tunes, had the confidence to play a gig, and even managed to use it to DIY record my more rock style project too!!!! Simon explains even the most complex things in easy to understand ways, and is really supportive, friendly, and a great teacher. If only all tutors were like him ha ha! My advice is if you want to do this course, dont be like me, spending a year deciding if I should go for it - just do it!!! For me, it was worth every single penny :D

I started Soma Skool at Shoogle Studios about 3 weeks ago and already have learned a lot from Simon. It is a beginners course for making electronic music and each week we are taken step by step on how to make our own music from scratch, this is good as the music you make is your own and is it original. I like how Simon teaches its not a strict working environment he has good banter along the way and makes you feel at ease so you don't hesitate to ask any questions if there is something you don't understand. I also like that we get course notes away with us every week as it means you don't need to spend the class taking a load of notes you can tune in to what he is doing and when you go home you have the notes to refer back to. I have only had 3 sessions so far and already have learned so much so I am looking forward to the remaining 5 sessions to see what Simon has in store for us :)

Ableton's built-in tutorials weren't doing it for me at all but I was really keen to get my head round it and figured it would be money well spent if the Soma Skool Introducer course gave me the skills and knowledge to start having some fun with it. After completing the course I would be happy to recommend it to anyone looking to get started with Ableton, or anyone who can use it but wants to learn a few tricks and maybe gain some more in-depth musical knowledge at the same time. The classroom itself is a cool setting, the course is well structured and it certainly wasn't just me that seemed to be picking things up really quickly. Simon Stokes is a great teacher - knowledgeable, enthusiastic and down to earth. He must know everything there is to know about Ableton; questions were getting fired at him think and fast most of the time and I don't think anybody caught him out once! It was great to learn from someone who is well respected in the scene and is happy to pass on his skills and knowledge, not just about Ableton but about DJing, promoting and other aspects of the scene, which he was only too happy to do. My story is!! For some time now I have been wanting to have a go at this.,I had tried Abelton 8 a couple of years ago and I took the free trial but with pure frustration and my lack of experience of computers and the set up i gave up right away!! i was getting no where with it, I have always had this interest in what goes into making Electronic music. I have loved techno for a few years now,I love going to Pressure and gigs seeing the masters at this Art i just want to understand for myself what it takes. I just live for music its every day for me. I came across Shoogle studios and i had a look through the site and what it had to offer,right away i seen there was a course for Abelton live 9 my prays were answered! Then there was a wee problem for me the days for the course where week days over 4 weeks and with my job and working away from home was just sort of impossible! for me. I sent a message to Simon Stokes with my problem to witch he replied right away! Simon told me of a weekend course that was starting this was perfect for me in so many ways. I am however a total nugget when it comes to computers and tech stuff.. I didn't know how I would get on with this,Simon assured me this was no problem.. I found day 1 very interesting Simon has this instant likability about him.When I found things where going a bit fast for me it was no problem to ask Simon to go over things again for me. His help through the weekend course was outstanding!! doing the weekend meant throwing 4 weeks into a weekend! Simon is an Amazing teacher ready with what ever question I had for him the man is a total wizard!! there is nothing he doesn't know about Abelton he is so helpful!!! The course is really well structured and some really in depth course notes that are priceless for when you are at home and find you might have forgotten something. If your thinking of doing a music production course don’t think about this one, just do it... take my word for it you won’t be disappointed:)

All the Ableton beginner lessons at Shoogle Studios were supplemented with step by step support instructions for reference at a later date if required.
