Reviews of The Glasgow School of Art

Great customer service, particularly when the delivery companywide a mistake. Noisy Clan proactively stayed in touch, reassured me and the stand arrived. I'm still learning to use it, and am hoping that it will be as handy as it looks.

I’ve had better. Smells nice though

What a great historical building with very knowledgeable and convivial students. The building was designed by the famous architect mackintosh. The building is very beautiful. It would be better if we could see the studios with their huge north windows witch was a shame. Over all great experience would go again sometime. Leave a like please 👍🏻
C. B.
Beautiful building. Hope to see it back to its best ASAP. I was lucky to visit here before it’s first fire and it really is a sensational building inside and out. Such a massive piece of history for Glasgow and the world.
It’s a must visit for anyone visiting Glasgow once it’s back to it proper state.

Thoroughly enjoyed the tour by a very knowledgeable and convivial student. My only gripe was that we weren't allowed to see the actual studios with their huge north facing windows which was a shame as I suspect this is one of the best features of the building. I guess you can't have tourists disturbing the students but still. Otherwise this is an impressive and unusual building.

One of the places to see on a Glasgow visit if you are interested in C. R. Mackintosh. Paid £7 for a 45 minutes tour. It supports the restoration of the original building which caught fire in 2014. It was a Hungarian student in her final year who conducted the tour. It was a pleasure listening to her. Loved the anecdote about the chair from the tea room on Sauchiehall.
C. S.
The 45 minute tour is well worth the small charge. Our student was very much up to speed with the history of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Although the amount of his work you see is limited to a few pieces of furniture at the end of the tour, what she told us added detail to the story which helped enormously when seeing other CRM exhibits in the City.
M. M.
The Mackintosh Building itself is a work of art. The original library was exquisite and we hope to return to visit again when the restoration is complete. Anyone with an eye or appreciation for hand crafts and art will love this tour.

We went along to an hour's tour of the Rennie Mackintosh School of Art. Originally the budget was £14,000 but CRM spent £40,000 (!) and you can see why - lovely detailing and craftsmanship everywhere.
We were shown around by a friendly and knowledgeable former student who made the place come alive. Worth going just to see the library, which is stunning.

The Mack is expected to open again as soon as restoration is complete. Can’t wait to 2019! Cute gift shop funding the restorations with some really good pieces designed by students at a very professional level . The Reid is an art school building where actual teaching takes place, not open to visitors unless registered during an Open day. There is a guided tour related to the Macintosh building.

Take some time to join a tour by one of the graduate students. Interesting history of Mackintosh and beautiful exhibition of Mackintosh's furniture. The building of the GSA is worth a quick view (both in- and outside), but most spaces inside are not accessible. By participating in the tour, you also contribute to the reconstruction of the Mackintosh school, opposite to the GSA.

to the review of Baa! below, i can only quietly respond as follows. our taxes pay for social and health issues in scotland...be grateful they do please. Yes, some of the money goes to the arts. remember you can walk into almost any gallery/museum in scotland for free!
As for the art school....put aside for a moment that this beautiful building has been providing inspiration and daily beauty in the eyes of our art students for the last 4 or 5 generations...that should be reason enough to save it!!
The fact that is a CRM design and probably his greatest work, should resonate with all glaswegians and all scots. this man has brought in countless millions of pounds to the city and country in tourism since his passing.(and the beautiful margaret mcdonald mcintosh of course)
Yes, we have other CRM designs that are beautiful in the city, but please , take a minute, breathe and ponder the importance of this building historically and socially before you ask for its funding to be removed.

Did not actually go into the historic building up across the radio to an exhibition about this famous building. Still in use. Payed tour was interesting.
R. G.
The historic buildings are slowly being surrounded by poured concrete and steel panelled eyesores. A shame, as the original buildings are beautiful.
A. V.
Definetely closed for tours but all other Mackintosh buildings are worth seeing.

the building was designed by the famous architect Mackintosh. Hope the renovations after the fire to put the building back to its former glory
C. W.
When I saw it in August 2016 it was covered in scaffolding for renovations after the fire. It's not worth visiting until after the works are finished.
R. N.
I had a tour which was just under an hour. Was very cheep, and was definitely worth it

Loved the place, i could spend the day there anytime, hope to be back next summer.

This is by far the best and most user friendly circle of fifths I have come across. It has already advanced my knowledge and understanding in just a few weeks of using it. Would recommend this to not only beginner guitarist, but experienced players as well!

(Translated) I came all the way to Glasgow to see this building, and it didn't live up to my expectations.

Nowadays, in the summer of 2019, you only see scaffolding again. Because in 2018 architect Mackintosh's Art Nouveau icon burned down for the second time, the last time before that was a devastating fire in 2014, when the building was rebuilt. Where was the fire protection after the reconstruction in 2014? Those in charge must be asking themselves that. Here Mackintosh and his contemporaries studied, here they gave Art Nouveau a very special, personal Scottish touch. The answer came from Hoffmann in Vienna - one was networked, albeit differently than today. Straight lines, geometry here - no art nouveau creepers like in Nancy, but clear shapes. Black, white and sublime pastel tones. One of the last great European styles in its own particular form, great here in Glasgow!
