I highly recommend the LCSP . To me is the best school of piano in the UK and you can learn from all over the world. Their online platform is nothing but amazing!. If you are passionate about music this is definitely the school for you. I always had a dream of learning piano but somehow I didn't have an opportunity while young. As an adult, I tried traditional methods but they didn't work as I would need years of practice to reach any acceptable level of playing that would make me enjoy it, so I kept giving up. Until I discovered LCSP. Within my first lesson I was already playing let it be from Beatles and Imagine and I had no piano experience before. This is how fast you can learn! The Harmony method help me learn so much faster and I learned tricks to be able to sight read quick too (something I couldn't even do before). The piano teachers are the best you can get, some award winning. I have been in the school for 3 years now, with one to one lessons. I do about 15 lessons a year (so not that many) and I have done a few intensive courses with Tom Donald too(the most amazing musician and teacher! I have learned so much from him!). I can now play Ludovico Einaudi songs, other classical pieces and a huge range of pop songs. I even help my daughter with her sight reading now with all the tricks I have learned at the school. But it doesn't finish here! If you are a member of the school you have access to a huge range of practical seminars, online resources to learn in your own time and improve your technique! They have a fantastic community too! And they teach all genres of music too! I cannot recommend highly enough this school of piano!

One day in Aug 2016, I met Tom with rather indifferent expectations, coming from the many previous piano tutors whose time and efforts I so spectacularly wasted. Being self-aware, I thought Tom might just be my 101st victim, and I would so go back to feeling sorry for my lack of talent and many other excuses. Probably, I’d try again after a few years, only to repeat the defeat. But, Tom and his Team broke this unfortunate pattern once and for all. How did they make me sit at the piano first thing in the morning with blurry eyes?!? It’s by waking up the musician in me. This dyslexic musician who isn’t particularly good at conveying the right notes on the keyboard but loves beautiful sounds. So, here we are. They taught me to enjoy the practice by trying to make the sound beautiful in every stage of layering, and learning to appreciate the profound joy of listening to what I’m practising, being far from music in its entirety, but I’ve learned that each note and each bar can be so thrilling, even in isolation… They are a pair of fog lights, shedding light on the slightest nuance of the music when I’m stranded in the fog. It takes accomplished musicians, with a love for sharing, to do this, and doing so with clarity and patience. That sums up Tom and his mighty Team for me.

The lessons here have unlocked my piano playing. After 36 years of piano playing by never being able to sit down and play something, it is now pouring out of me and I can't stop. You are brilliant at working out what it is that I don't know and explaining it to me. Thank you!

This school is truly amazing. I am not the easiest person to teach, I am impatient, get bored/distracted easily and am not very focused but with their flexible approach to teaching styles and techniques I am now (within a year or so and only 1-2 lessons a month) a competent piano player, who practices most days!! My lessons are truly tailored to my specific needs. I am using the piano now as a tool also to write songs, though I have been doing this for years without piano, my musicality has been elevated by my new skills. So not only did they figure out how to teach me effectively but I've also learned to be more disciplined. Tom Donald is a true maestro - but each of the staff at the school are absolute experts in their field, and beyond, plus they are just genuinely all lovely people. I am so happy that I will be working with them as an Artist in Residence in 2021!

I had always wanted to learn the piano but thought I'd left it too late now in my early sixties and with acquired learning difficulties after several strokes. I accepted in advance I wouldn't get past lesson three! I am now halfway through my second course and booked for a third. I have undertaken one to one lessons with the very talented and supremely patient Jack Marshall. Currently, I'm halfway through a comprehensive group course, lead by the inspiring Tom Donald, who somehow does magic and makes even the hard bits fun. I love the enthusiastic and easy-going atmosphere that threads throughout the school.

Google search lead us to london contemporary school of piano. It was the best thing to happen in my son’s musical journey. We have been using their services for the last 4-5 years, they are the best when it comes to teaching. Tom Donald has become a personal friend who has lead my son to achieve the highest commendation in trinity exams. Their team of coaches Alberto, siwan and others have moulded his musical talent to its best version.
Cannot thank them enough. Please keep up the good work. Would highly recommend them.

I attended the London Contemporary School of Piano, "Piano Essentials"10 week online Course. This was not only an excellent foundation course for beginners, but also included a lot of material for those wanting to improve their piano skills.
This course delivered by Tom Donald, whose friendly relaxed style of teaching was really encouraging, and gave me exactly what I was looking for as an 'adult beginner'. I was really pleased that Tom didnt waffle. Everything he had to say was pure gold!
(Delivery of the course was by live interactive seminars with supporting documentation avaialable to download).
The course taught me how to play music by ear and improvise, as well as read and simplify sheet music into piano Lead Sheets that really speeds up the learning process.
Professional musicians also shared their wealth of experience in their preferred music genre, through live tutorials, which reinforced the course content.
It was a great help having the live Seminars recorded for reviewing at leisure with sheet music, Sheet music , lead sheets, piano exervises were made available to download. Everything necessary for piano practice was made available.. I highly recommend this course.

I joined LCSP about 5 years ago (aged 55) when I realised that time was running out to master the piano and that previous efforts had progressed too slowly. I desperately wanted to learn how to ‘really play’.
I worked with Tom initially, gaining exposure to and a deeper understanding of a wide range of musical genres; plus guidance on how to move forward.
The initial work stood me in good stead and now Alberto helps me hone my practical and theoretical musicality. I’m not there yet but I’m very much enjoying the journey and believe that my close family
are on board too!
Price is what you pay and value is what you get. I highly recommend them.

The School (LCSP) has developed a very apt practical philosophy for the getting its students (whatever their age) personally committed to their own musical education. Its philosophy is born of experience but also reflection about the nature of both music and education. My own teacher/coach is outstanding in every respect. My only wish it to have more time to benefit from what the School provides. I'd add that the back office operations are very customer-oriented. I tell my friends about this whenever it seems right to do so .

Friendly, professional, patient...oh so patient (!), encouraging, fun, kind, genuine and selfless: all characteristics of the tutors at LCSP.
They teach all styles of music and accept every individual, always valuing each of their musical contributions.
All the lessons and seminars are recorded, so you can watch them again and again and learn something new from them each time. When you sign up to LCSP you also join a lovely, supportive piano community in which you can ask any musical question and rest assured, some kind soul will provide an answer.
1-1 lessons are an absolute treat. We are privileged to be learning from world-class musicians who are passionate about teaching the piano. During lockdown these lessons and weekly seminars have been a lifeline for me: if I knew my day had a piano lesson in it, I would feel little bursts of joy. I feel like LCSP are more like a family than a business.
The skills I have learned over the last year or so have helped me in other areas of my life because during my practice sessions, often I feel like I have moved on another step, as if another piece of the infinitely exciting piano puzzle, fits in place and somehow, building on previous learning, it opens up a new pathway to a new adventure. That sense of achievement makes me feel happy, confident and calm - ready for whatever the day may bring.

Tom Donald and his colleagues provide an extraordinarily enjoyable method of learning piano based on chordal harmony. I have played guitar through my adolescent and midlife onwards but had never approached keyboard instruments. From lesson 1 it is possible to play something recognisable. Over time both practical and theoretical concepts of complex jazz harmony, melody and chord progression are covered in a digestible and entertaining way facilitating application to whatever style of music is of most interest, whether classical, jazz, pop, blues, pop, latin funk etc.. Tom and his team are infinitely patient, supportive and inspiring - all great musicians in their own right. They are able to enhance not only playing skills but, importantly, listening skills opening ones eyes and ears to styles one may not have been so familiar with. Whatever musical journey you are on LSCP will make it more fulfilling.

Being classically trained from early childhood, i always felt absolute terror when asked to play the piano without music.
This changed when i embarked on a musical journey with the London School of Contemporary Piano, in April 2020.
Despite taking all of my lessons, due to the restrictions online, my learning experience has been absolutely amazing. Each session, being either group or individual, has been fun, informative and inspiring.
I have learned to play songs of different musical styles (pop, rock, blues and jazz) from lead sheets and to make my own arrangements.
For the first time in my life, i began to improvise. Improvisation, is now a big part of my practice. It gives me a lot of fulfillment and also inspiration for writing my own music.
With a caring support of my mentors and the whole school community, I have overcome the debilitating fear of making mistakes and now enjoy sharing my accomplishments with others.
I am uterly thrilled with how much i have accomplished.
I love being part of LSCP community.

This is a world class piano school. I live in Melbourne and it's fabulous to be able to have online lessons with amazing coaches in London. I wanted to improve my piano playing skills and Tom and Siwan have helped me to do this. I haven't just met my goals, I've exceeded them in a short space of time. My technique has improved immensely and I've acquired new skills such as improvisation and playing from lead sheets. The team are so friendly and encouraging and it's a pleasure to work with them.

I have found LCSP’s teaching methods outstanding. Ive been learning piano for 8 years and became a member of LCSP almost 2 years ago. In those 2 years I have had so many light bulb moments, my understanding of piano and musical structure as a whole has come on in leaps and bounds!
Everyone I’ve come into contact with, coaches, staff and members have been so supportive creating an encouraging environment to learn. I cannot recommend LCSP highly enough.

I have been studying piano with LCSP since 2017. As a child and teenager I had piano lessons following a traditional Grade orientated focus of study, and always thinking that if I could pass the next Grade, I would be able to just play. I hoped to be able to look at a piece of sheet music and be able to hear the music. I reached Grade 7 with this remaining a mystery. Now with LCSP, their harmony method has given me a greater understanding of how music works, and I can now play the songs that eluded me as a teenager. Together with my 12 year old son, we can work up a blues improvisation duet following the incredible guidance of the LCSP teachers. I have also studied complex sheet music with new understanding and attended their weekly virtual webinars around particular themes. Next stop record my album!

For adult learners, as I am, confidence is probably the biggest hurdle,
the belief that it will take years and years to be able to enjoy the piano, and that the "perfect time" to acquire this skill has long past.
Even worse, the belief that you must be talented or have a "special affinity" for piano.
The only way to overcome this deeply ingrained and damaging "myth" is to surround yourself with positive, inspiring and limit-defying people, such as the artists at LCSP. I have been jamming from day one and there is no fixed blueprint to follow. The journey starts where you are standing and that is the biggest differentiator. Welcome to the 21st century of music education! Nobody at LCSP will press a curriculum on you. You can pick and choose your goals, the professional support and LSCPs innovative methods are there to help you reach them. All instructors at LSCP are accomplished musicians, that also makes a huge difference from conventional music teaching. They lead by example and their commitment and love to music is infectious.

I feel like an imposter who has been welcomed into the magic inner circle of music. I’m learning new tricks, being introduced to new genres, and discovering music all over again. I’m also surprised to enjoy improving my technical understanding and skills which can often be a bit dull. This is almost certainly as a result of the passion and calibre of each unique contributor and member of Tom’s faculty at LCSP.

i have had lessons for several years at LCSP after having reached plateaus which seemed to stretch out ahead of me for longer and longer. Up till then, mostly self taught, a non reader, with occasional inspiration, i was at a crossroads. In 2017, LCPS helped me focus on what i liked, and how to break through to new levels. I then enrolled on an innovative on line Jazz specialist course, as lockdown impacted all of us, run by professional career Jazz musicians/tutors, over 12 weeks, which then opened doors, up till then locked (or hidden). Result is a new, motivated interest in harmonic development, and an array of techniques to further grow to full potential. Without doubt a massive impact on my enjoyment of both piano and jazz creation. I hope it repeats and we can access the studios again soon. The jazz course is probably the single most thing that has kept by sense of achievement going this last year. Only regret is that such techniques as used were non existent a decade ago, and i started discovering jazz and blues piano some years ago when Christine McVie was Christine Perfect...

I've known Tom for four years and he still astounds me with his musical acumen, knowledge and passion for exploring all aspects of music. He has a great love of jazz, classical and contemporary music and it all compliments each other. He is also an excellent film composer and music arranger.
Tom and I have recently worked on a project in his music school together. I also run a music school in London and have used the Trinity exam board for over 20 years and have one of the best exam results in the country for my students.
Tom bought me in as an exam advisor for one of their star students and I'm thrilled to say the student not only got a Grade 8 distinction but also got full marks, something that is unheard of!
This is the quality and attention to detail you get when you are a student at LCSP.

I would definitely recommend this school to anyone. I have played the piano for many years but wanted my playing to be more creative so that I could play with other people and improvise more freely. I now play in a band, write my own songs and get so much more pleasure from playing. I’ve had lessons with Tom and Alberto and they are both fantastic teachers with the ability to share their vast musical knowledge in a very accessible way.

My son attended lessons at the London Contemporary School of Piano over the summer holidays to help him brush up on his scales and other technical skills. The team were absolutely fantastic and a great help. My son enjoyed his time with Tom. I was able to see a marked improvement between before and after his lessons and he’s certainly much more prepared than he would’ve been practicing on his own. I’d recommend this piano school to anyone in London in need of a good piano teacher.

The classes were truly remarkable. Travelling in and out of London posed a great challenge to my musical progress but with the amazing staff and teachers, I managed to keep up my learning. All the teachers there are kind and friendly, mixing together both styles of education and offering a wide variety and expertise in various styles of music. I highly recommend these courses and teachings for anyone at any level of learning, anywhere in the world. :)

It was a hugely enjoyable and inspiring session in the group class on Friday April 10. Tom Donald. I have had many, many piano lessons in my past musical life, including those at the Royal College of Music (you'd never guess now!), but you are by far the best, the most enabling, enthusiastic and inspirational teacher I've ever had. Someone who can explain complex ideas in simple terms and make you believe that you can do it - with fun!
I was telling my son that I remember one or two teachers when I was quite a young child who sat with a cane or stick in their hands, ready to smack my hands or place beneath my wrists if they weren't in the right position! It's astonishing that I didn't give up then. I was also positively admonished for playing by ear - unless it was under instruction. Barbaric!
However, the London Contemporary School of Piano is a brilliant and innovative fun way to learn. We are also an interesting and supportive global community. And definitely no canes here!
Tom, your daughter, Lara, is lucky to have both you and her mother, Yuylia as parents. She will be surrounded by music, enthusiasm, and creativit

Tom is an amazing musician and teacher. Extremely generous with his skills and knowledge and very supportive. I have a pretty theoretical background in music (degree etc.) but have always wanted to be able to improvise creatively and play along with other musicians freely. So Tom's approach, to master/understand the piano, rather than to just learn one or two songs is perfect for me.
Having an excellent teacher/ musician play along with you during a lesson is a very natural way to learn (and a lot of fun). Tom makes the seemingly complex, simple and much easier to understand (even possible with practise). We have illuminating discussions about music and the sessions are very inspiring.
I have a long way to go but Tom has made me feel much more positive about my piano playing and its creative potential. I wish I’d met him a long time ago!

Undoubtedly the best piano school in London. Their modern and forward facing approach is more engaging than traditional teaching methods whilst still having the discipline to push students to excel. The teachers are genuinely passionate about the success of their students and you get that in everything from the lessons to the administration. I have had a lot of piano lessons in West, North and South London but these guys and gals are without a doubt the best. I would recommend the LCSP to anyone.

I have been going to the London Contemporary School of Piano for around 5 years now. I think somewhat typical of many an adult pianist, I did the studies and grades as a child and initially thought that was it for me. While not falling out of love with the instrument and playing, I certainly spent many years somewhat lost (and in all honesty disappointed) with my direction and level in playing. I wanted to find the joy in playing again, improve and raise my skill and performance - at the same time trying to fit this all into a busy work and personal life schedule. Thankfully I found the London Contemporary School of Piano, and have been under the tutelage of Tom Donald and the many excellent teachers of the school ever since.
Tom is an excellent teacher, who quickly understood the needs and direction I was looking for. In a very short space of time I was working through pieces I had thought were impossible for me to even bother trying. Technique and musicality improved immensely and indeed even today I am surprised at far I have come, and hopefully can continue to go with my playing. I found his method of teaching unique and refreshing, it wasn’t all about scales and drills, or viewing a person’s ability by grades and exam results. The music was the focus and importance before anything else and I believe this understanding and acceptance was what I was missing for many years.
I have also had the privilege of being taught by most of the teachers at the school and can confirm that they are all amazing, highly accomplished musicians, each with their own ideas and teaching styles which can bring out the best you. Always patient and understanding of my musical preferences, but at the same time mindful and suggestive in ways to broaden my playing. Siwan Rhys has shown me an appreciation of modern / contemporary music which is so different yet often complementary to music I usually play. I have thoroughly enjoyed my lessons with Alvise Pascucci (Piano and Violin) which truly centred on my love of late classical and romantic eras and I am now currently studying with Alberto Ferro looking to refine and build my playing and performance levels as well as learn new skills (and hopefully lose my bad habits!)
The school is very well organized and flexible to your time, I am able to fit my lessons into my busy weekly work schedule. The lessons are held in the wonderful Bluthner piano showroom practice studios, and the pianos are a joy to play.
I of course thoroughly recommend the school and its teachers to anyone looking to return to playing the piano, those looking to improve their current playing or indeed any new starter just looking to fulfil their dream of being able to play!

Tom is an absolute legend. Teaches a very different methodology to other people I have been in class with.
Not only a fantastic teacher, really nice man and his method is a class act in teaching and expressing a lot more than purely reading music.

I’ve taken so many piano lessons through out my life but I could never ever see them through or stay motivated to continue learning piano, I’d go for 1 or 2 months and then stop going. Until I found out about London Contemporary School of Piano and read about their different approach to teaching, it’s nothing like I ever experienced, with no exaggeration, they made me start playing actual music (not just drills and scales for years -.-) and it was so exciting and motivating to me. 1 and a half year later and I’m still going strong ! And I’m starting on a Chopin piece now !.. yes a Chopin for someone like me who’s was a total beginner, this is huge for me! .. Tom is incredible and he’s an amazing mentor, if anyone wants to start playing piano right away, I would recommend anyone to try London Contemporary School of Piano even if it is for 1 class to try their method and I promise you won’t regret it. So much thanks to everyone at the school Specially Tom and Cait.

I worked as a piano teacher for few years in the school, I can only say that has been one of the best music schools I've worked with.
Despite the big number of students, it is very well organized, thanks to people working hard organising timetables and always arranging the best availabilities with students.
The variety of teachers allows you to choose on what musical style you want to focus, or if you want you can explore all of them!
The events are always very fun, like in Christmas or at the end of the year, they are always a great opportunity to perform with other students, very useful if you are preparing an exam, and to socialize.
Working there made me a much better pianist and teacher, and it is thanks to Tom and the school if now I'm an assistant in a music college in USA

My treat to myself has been to spend a couple of days with Tom Donald in his London studio each summer specifically to liberate my piano playing. Formal teaching of the traditional binary school of right/wrong, correct/incorrect is of no interest to me so finding Tom has been a complete breath of fresh air! His musical knowledge and experience is vast and talent for improvisation is nothing short of thrilling. Spending time absorbing ideas from him has given me a massive amount of confidence in creating my own style of playing. As a worship group leader I am improvising freely as we respond to the liturgy and needing to blend with a wide variety of other musicians. I've had so much feedback from our congregation about the music I'm now producing which has helped them to experience worship in a deeper way. Tom has listened to what I wanted from our piano sessions together and tailored the content perfectly to my needs - working with Tom is utterly absorbing, intensely inspiring and enormous fun!!
He is one of the most relaxed pianists I've ever met, a delight to spend time with and having performed twice for me for the Cheltenham Christian Arts Festival has each time left his audiences dazzled by his virtuosity.

I've been having lessons with Tom and Siwan over the course of the last 18 months and would recommend both of them to anyone wanting to play piano / keyboard. I've gone virtually from scratch and now regularly turn out at open mic evenings and play keyboard parts in a band.
There's no need to feel intimidated if you're at a beginners standard because they make it fun and you don't need to be a music boffin either...I couldn't read music very well when i began but with their help have managed to work through the Paul Harris series to grade 4/5 as well as gaining a good understanding of chords and chord extensions which is where my main focus is.
I've also seen both of them teaching very accomplished pianists so i'd say they cater for pretty much everyone!

Thank you Tom, Lana, Alberto, Rick, Siwan! I live in California and was looking for a school that would do intensive 15-20 hour week of lessons so that I could take a week vacation and really make some good progress. This was the perfect school for that. I did a 15-hour intensive lessons, plus a couple hours' a day practice which you can conveniently book there. I just started teaching myself about three months ago, and I had about 100 hours of practice in before coming which definitely helped me get a jump on understanding my areas for improvement, articulating what I wanted to work on and learn etc. I did half classical / technique lessons and half improv / chords/ lead sheet lessons. I think learning both at the same time is a virtuous cycle that accelerates improvement. They are excellent teachers, very patient, and most importantly encouraging and positive, which any adult newbie player needs. I had a million questions and things I wanted to understand, and I've noticed a remarkable difference in how I play and approach music reading just in one week. So many great tips, suggestions, and proposed pieces of music to try. Thanks all! Hope to come back :)

As an older mid-level piano student from the Live Music Capital of the World, Austin, Texas, having a piano coach from the London Contemporary School of Piano via Skype or FaceTime has been like having my coach/instructor/mentor right next door. Insightful guidance has taken my interest and ability from lukewarm to HOT for which I am extremely grateful to Tom Donald and his team. Alberto Ferro has introduced me to concepts that have broadened my scope and understanding and have increased my desire to learn more.
P. S.
The school's approach to learning suits me perfectly because I don't want to "learn by rote", and I am being challenged to think way beyond which note to hit! I can see my development and my confidence building every week, and the additional seminars and other resources keep me constantly inspired. Brilliant!
E. K.
love this place and recommend to everyone, absolutely amazing and fantastic teachers (I practice with Alberto Ferro and he improved my playing sooo much since I started), the instruments are great, reasonable price and convenient location. they also organize events so you get a nice chance to perform regularly. this is more than 'piano lessons', it's the a door into the piano world

Very knowledge and accomplished teachers. I have been able to develop in many ways as each one encourages and supports in their own way, helping me to really flourish as a musician, not just a piano player.
Also each teacher has their own area expertise which allows me to explore music that I have never been able to access until now. Highly recommended. Well worth it!

“My 8 year old son takes piano lessons with Jack,Aoife and Siwan. Their music material is systematic and they are experienced in teaching young kids.
Tyron has progressed and gained confidence from the encouragement of Jack,Siwan and Aoife. I feel like Tyron gets of individual attention from his teachers.
Tyron has developed a passion for learning how to play piano, read and even create music after taking classes at London contemporary school of piano. I highly recommend this school. The lesson prices cost a bit more but they are worth every penny!!!!”

It has been almost a year since I discovered London Contemporary School of Piano, taking a chance on a Facebook advert that came up on my page for some reason. When I watched Intro videos I have got interested with a promise of helping me to experience learning music in a different way vs. classical education that I had under my belt ( a bit outdated - with a lack of practice for about 25 years, and only few pieces at hand that survived the time, making no progress what’s so ever ). Fast forward 10 months, I think by pure luck I joined an amazing school. The school that has helped me to expand enormously on repertoire that I already can and still learning to handle ( from Blues to Chopin and Rachmaninov, from classical to contemporary, modern music, from music sheets to being more comfortable with chords and even a bit of improvisation); my understanding of music history and theory is evolving at speed. The thing is, there are many schools out there with a lot of professional musicians passing their knowledge to students like me, but what these guys in LCSP translate at all times is this limitless passion for music and fun you can have with it - THAT DRAWS YOU IN - pushing you to explore more, to practice more and to learn more. Team of Coaches ( in my case Tom, Siwan and Albero) compliment each other beautifully- I have very different practice with each, but there is a common thread - all are amazing in making complicated things simple with enormous support and empathy, building your skills and confidence. One more thing: at some point you will get to know other students and become a part of a broader community - that is a beautiful experience in itself! Finally, for those of us stressed and busy: this gives you such a positive energy, that in return you are becoming a better version of self in whatever it is that you are doing for living! Give it a try and Enjoy!

Tom is a superb teacher with a rather unique approach. He has introduced me to the world of jazz and improvisation without making it overly complex or daunting, and always with amazing energy and charisma.

2 intensive 5-hour days a week apart with Tom and Siwan were a pleasure from start to finish. I needed liberating from old bad habits after years of a traditional classical background and found it highly stimulating - a completely different approach from what I had been used to - starting with jazz harmony and moving onto lead sheets, improvisation, and pop ballads with Tom, and rhythm, minimalism and contemporary styles with Siwan which opened up a fascinating new world to me that I hadn't expected. Lots of new directions and I am inspired and re-motivated. Thank you.

I can highly recommend the school. I started learning piano recently in my 50’s and am enjoying every bit. Thank you LCSP!

Learning Jazz piano with Tom is always fun and creative and I always leave feeling inspired and motivated to be a better pianist.

Picked my piano playing up , lost interest but Tom reignited it.
