Reviews of The Budokwai

First time back with consistent Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training since 2014, and I have added Judo whilst I’m at it; training at the oldest martial arts gym in Europe the @thebudokwai where I’m currently doing their basic Judo course before joining the regular class in a few weeks, and training BJJ with the @raystevensacademy head coach who is a former Olympian and a great teacher.
The gym has a great atmosphere with a mix of modern and traditional Japanese culture. Everyone is so friendly and inclusive, and the training is great. Do come down. I think the ABC judo beginner course is a great gateway into grappling sports for those not used to contact sports, although you can also sign up for any of the classes on the timetable.

Great judo club with an outstanding level.Classes every day for different levels. Also, BJJ and other martial art. AWESOME atmosphere and very talented teachers. You will feel warmly welcomed. There are "visitor judo classes" for 10 pounds, allowing you to just show up there and train. Simply 10/10

My son is currently on red belt and the teacher is very fun. His class is on Saturday at 10:00 am and finishes at 11:30 am. So the teacher is very nice! Recommend this to evetybody!!!!

I Visited the Budokwai a number of times as part of the British Police team competitor (John Harkers day) and years later as one of the coaches. Also I once ran Personal Safety advisers' course there.
The Club has history just leeking from the walls! The place European Judo took form, former members of this club shaped international Judo for years. The standards held within and promoted by the coaches are still to be aspired too.

As an occasional visitor to the Budokwai from the 80's up until last year I have always loved the fact you could turn up on your own and be welcomed into such a historic club steeped in tradition as if you are a Budokwai regular. As a competitive player I used to train at the Budokwai for the world class instructors and regular british and international squad members who visited and were always on hand to give you that extra battle hardened practice and instruction needed for comps and gradings. Always a great practice.

The place I started my Judo journey aged 39, 7 years later still in love with judo. Great Dojo, great coaches. The home of British Judo!

I can recommend Aikido Dojo London very highly, having trained there happily for 11 years. Under Sensei Justin Christou, 5th Dan and 8 years student under Morihiro Saito Sensei, we fortunate students are learning techniques handed down directly from Morihei Ueshiba, O'Sensei to Morihiro Saito Sensei, who was entrusted to carry on teaching Aikido as the Founder intended.

The premier dojo to learn Aikido In London
I wanted to study Aikido many years ago but never did. So after many years of NOT doing Aikido, I decided that if I was going to learn, I would try to find the best Aikido teacher in London I could.
I spent a whole year researching Aikido, the styles, teachers etc and started visiting clubs. I started to hear about Morihiro Saito and Iwama Aikido (not officially a style) that springs from the founder's home dojo in Iwama ( the home of Aikido) When I found Aikido Dojo London with Justin Christou Sensei, I couldn't believe my luck! Here was a teacher who had studied for eight years full time in Japan under Morihiro Saito Sensei 9th Dan who was widely regarded as one of the greatest practitioners of Aikido and had spent 24 years under the aikido founder Morihei Ueshiba.
In all, I short listed and visited 15 Aikido clubs in London but I knew right away this teacher was the correct one to learn from.

Sensei Justin Christou trained for 8 years full time at the Iwama dojo under Saito Sensei. In the final years of Saito's life, he opened up to his lucky students some of the samurai secrets he had learned from the founder. The only place you can experience these techniques in Europe today is at Aikido Dojo London, and even then, they are taught very rarely.
Sensei Justin Christou has chosen to teach Aikido the same way it was taught by Saito Sensei to him. As he puts it, "Nothing added, nothing taken away".
What more do you need to know.
