Reviews of West Coast Martial Arts
N. B.
My son started West Coast Martial Arts as a young teen over 4 years ago, he wanted to gain more confidence and learn self defence.
The classes are excellent and deal with a lot of real life situations while making things fun and enjoyable.
The help Lee and the team gave my son to develop and build confidence, was phenomenal! They really do go the extra mile. They take time to encourage and develop all students and make everyone feel part of the West Coast family.
My son has hugely enjoyed his time at West Coast Martial Arts which, has played a major part in shaping the young confident adult that he has become.

This place is absolutely fantastic! Modern facilities to train in Krav Maga and Kickboxing. Coach Lee and his staff have a real passion to bring the best out in every student. I recommend 100% to join up.

The community is very friendly and the instructor (Lee) is very approachable. I was nervous on my first day but had no reason to be. Now I can't imagine life without these classes.

Excellent gym, my son does krav maga, which is mixed martial arts, they do childrens classes, teen classes and adult classes....Lee is a really motivational coach, and his assistants are also excellent.

I took up Krav Maga almost two years ago, at first I only attended private lessons with Lee as I had a lack of self confidence having never done anything like this before, I was hooked from the first lesson. Since then I have lost weight, gained enough confidence to attend classes and am enjoying every minute of it. My two children also attend the kids classes on Saturday morning and have come on massively in the year they have been training. All in all its a great club with fantastic instructors and senior students always willing to help the newer guys (and ladies!) out. I can't recommend it highly enough.

About a year ago I was looking to join a keep fit / self-defence class. I’d recently moved to Preston and didn’t really know anybody. I had dabbled a little bit in my youth with more traditional martial arts but I wanted to find something that was applicable to real world scenarios. Also at the age of 47 I didn’t really want to be the only middle aged guy in a room full of teenagers! I have to say that joining West Coast Krav Maga has turned out to be one of the very best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. I’ve been attending classes in Preston, Lancaster and Blackpool for about a year now and I absolutely love it. Basically you’re learning real world self-defence skills in a safe, friendly and fun environment with extremely professional instructors. The group is diverse with males and females of all ages, all levels of fitness and all levels of training. We all take care of one another when we’re training and it’s a real family vibe. I think they have a trial offer, 3 classes and a free T-shirt for £20. Seriously give it a go, I think you’ll really enjoy it :)

Having trained various martial arts at various clubs in the UK I was thrilled to find a Krav Maga club so close to home. After only one session I was hooked. All the instructors are brilliant, Lee certainly knows his stuff and most importantly knows how to teach it. Every student is really friendly and welcoming. The techniques are great to learn and even though I hope I never need to apply them for real I'm learning what I consider the best real world self defence protection methods.
I certainly would, and do, recommend the club whole heartedly.
If you fancy keeping fit while training with a great bunch of people learning a brilliant martial art, check it out

Both of my girls (age 8 and 9) love attending their classes. They have regularly attended for over two years and their confidence has continued to grow. All of the instructors are amazing and meet the needs of both children, one that is outgoing and confident and one that is more quiet and reserved. They have both progressed brilliantly and I look forward to seeing them continue in the coming years. Their confidence has grown in all aspects of their lives and they look forward to every class, even after two years! A big thank you to Lee and the other instructors for their continued hard work

I joined West coast Krav Maga , not really knowing what to expect or even if i would be able to do it. As soon as I walked through the door for my first class all those thoughts vanished.
Everyone at the club is warm and welcoming and are willing to share their knowledge and experience and best of all there are no egos.
The coaching is brilliant and they take into account all the different abilities.
Not only have I gained fitness , confidence and knowledge I have also met some amazing people there.

My girls started lessons during lockdown. At first it was virtual until we could go to the centre. Even from the virtual classes you could feel the passion and energy from Lee. The kids picked up on this and now love coming to lessons. The centre is run to a high standard from everyone you meet. We particularly love Hannah. Its not just the professionalism its the love for what they do and that has really impacted my children. They love coming to class. They feel totally safe and they are getting fitter and more confident at each lesson. From a covid aspect, it is Clean! they follow every rule. They are learning so much more from the classes, not just move and skills but life lessons also.

Well, aged 57 and not having been to the gym for too long I decided to sign up for West Coast Krav Maga. Doubts about age and 'fitting in' were soon gone. This is a really friendly club, no matter what age or fitness level you are.
The classes are fun, interesting and fast moving, they push you, but do not over stretch you, the perfect balance.
I have only attended two lessons and a four week bootcamp and I already feel the difference. I am losing weight, more inclined to keep fit in between classes and my confidence is starting to return.
Well recommended for everybody, ignore your doubts and concerns, try a class and you will be hooked.

Such a Brilliant club, with a vast diverse mix of fantastic people. I would highly recommend west coast martial arts to anyone looking to try something different, learn new skills, get fit and meet new people! I only started Krav Maga 3 months ago and I love it I find I am counting the days down to my next class!! Right from my very first class Lee and all the team were so welcoming and made me feel at ease. Go on, give it a go...if you don’t try it you will never know what your missing out on!

I started my own journey with Krav Maga just over a month ago with my wife. We signed up for a boot camp as a new challenge for ourselves, neither of us had tried anything like this before and were a little unsure what to expect. All credit to Lee and Simone who put us both at ease and over the month helped us to enjoy each and every session that we went to ( not forgetting Carl for 1 session at Ashton ).
Sandra and I have now signed up as members and I have just completed my first week in the new class,Sandra has joined the Ladies boot camp and is learning new things. I have taken my eldest son to 2 classes and am looking forward to taking my youngest son to the family class next week.
I would recommend this to anyone who likes to try something new and out of the box, could end up with 4 new members by end of the current courses!.

I joined to improve my fitness level, reflexes and flexibility as well as learning self defence skills. The whole experience has exceeded my expectations and I have met and trained with some great people. The instructors are excellent and the classes often demanding but always enjoyable. I highly recommend that anyone wanting to learn self defence, try a few classes to see whether it's for them.

A high quality training studio, in a prime location. An excellent instructor and equally excellent students. Beginner friendly but also accommodates more experienced students.

I’ve been training at West Coast for over 5 years now and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Great training with like minded people with no ego’s who just want to learn and improve new skills. The coaching is first class in a very friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended for any level of fitness.

At first I wasn’t sure, but I attended one of their one day self defence course, and enjoyed every moment of the day. That was my taster, learning how to defend myself if needed, learning how to look more confident than you feel, and then actually realising you have become more confident within yourself.
The best teacher I’ve every had, thank you Mr lee Douglas you make the training hard but not too hard and the sense of achievement you feel at the end of a session is fantastic.

A year ago I wanted a challenge beyond my familiar routine so enrolled for Krav Maga having no idea how long I’d last. A hundred classes later and I’m still in - this is seriously addictive stuff ( and a lot of fun). The coaching’s brilliant, incredibly knowledgeable, always professional and positive. Classes feel fast- paced, varied and relevant to real world scary stuff. Just as important, the club is really friendly and ego- free; the skilled warhorses so supportive of those of us that are still a tangle of limbs and sweat (beginners bond quickly). I thought it might be full of nasty show- offs with anger issues and found really good people.
I’m small, a bit soft and 55 with a shoulder full of debris but Krav makes me find a way. In the words of JFK: “ we do these things not because they are easy but because they are hard”.
The USA needed a bloody big rocket, but all a Krav beginner needs is spirit.

I suffer badly from Social Anxiety and it took me months to buck up the courage to join the class at 3-1-5 gym in Lancaster. A real nice bunch of people and the instructor is one of the nicest person you will ever meet. A real range of ages, no egos you will loose weight and gain confidence, highly recommended.
P. S.
If you haven't heard of Krav Maga then attend a lesson and you'll soon be spreading the word. The self defence training at West Coast Krav Maga is second to none (IMHO) and the classes have a great sense of comradery.
The instructor has achieved many accolades in a long career in Martial Arts and brings those unique skills and experience to enhance the Krav Maga training.
The increase in my fitness and confidence has brought about a type of serene karma in my everyday life.
There is a Krav Maga motto that states.. "So as one may walk in peace"...and as such i now do.

West Coast Krav Maga is an extremely friendly well run club.
If you have not yet had the chance to experience how Krav Maga can get you fit and boost your self confidence then you could do a lot worse than starting with WCKM. Learning the basics properly is very important and these guys make sure you are comfortable without overloading you.
If you're already a KM student then whatever your grade you are sure to find a friendly challenge at WCKM. The experience of the instructors and their training style and teaching methods will help you progress quickly.

Krav Maga is REAL LIFE Self Defence for everyone......and I just wish I’d found it sooner! I’m a petite female, and I wanted to learn how to defend myself as best possible in a range of potential real life situations. At my size, I doubted whether I’d ever believe I stood a chance of getting out of a bad situation if ever I was physically intimidated by a man in particular. Now I know I would! Lee doesn’t just know Krav Maga....he lives and breathes it....and that’s what makes him an excellent teacher. He runs his classes with enthusiasm, fun and patience, fostering a sense of team and wanting everyone to be the best they can be. There are no egos and nobody’s left out. I thought I’d stay a few months....but a year and a half later I’m still loving it.

I joined WCKMG 15 months or so ago when I was new to the area. Immediately felt welcome and supported by the other members of the club, and attitude and ethos reflected by the instructors Lee and Carl. I have felt progression in my health and wellbeing but also in my mental health. I have also broadened my social circle and met loads of new people. For this reason I have introduced my daughter to the club. She will see strong confident women with ability to assert themselves. I feel proud of my decision to sign up.

Just a few weeks in for me but enjoying it immensely. The sessions are full on with lots of activity so they are great for fitness not to mention the skills. The class is full of enthusiasm from both students and instructors. I wish I had started years ago.

Been training with WCMA for a few months now. Cracking training facilities, great staff and coaches and great students as well. As well as keeping fit and learning new skills, the social side is great as well. Made some great new friends during my time here. 10/10

Excellent coaches with decades of experience and an amazing self defense program.
I was feeling a lot safer within just a few weeks, now been coming here 2-3 times a week for 2 years!
Always appropriate for every level of ability. I'm a skinny guy who works in IT and love it!

Before trying krav, I had never previously done much in the way of martial arts (or even anything remotely athletic) and most certainly wasn't a "natural" for this kind of thing. However, the instructor, Lee, is an excellent teacher, very patient and always goes the extra mile for his students. I've managed to learn some genuinely effective self-defence techniques, get a lot fitter and even pass a few gradings in krav maga, which is more than I would have imagined possible before I started. I would recommend the club to anyone who is interested in krav or is just looking for a fun physical activity with a great bunch of people.

Brilliant! Great skills, good exercise, and friendly club. Definitely recommend it for all. My kids love it! 👍🏽
My kids learn essential skills necessary for handling the potential troubles that they could face are are becoming all too common today.
Something they love other than the Xbox.

West Coast Krav Maga has provided me with the techniques and confidence to defend my self in most situations. From a drunken hay makers to having a gun pointed in your face, Lee has covered most basis' of principle and I now feel ready for my 15 month solo travel, coming this September. I wish them all the best in the future, thanks guys!

I have built on existing skills, learnt new skills, gained fitness and friends along the way. A good mix of skill levels in the classes means it accessible to all. As part of my job i can sometimes be placed in difficult and potentially dangerous circumstances, the training provided by the team at West Coast means that I can do so confidently.

Being a beginner and not being from the area I only had 1 training session with this club whilst up here and I must say A very big thank you to all the members of the club and to the instructors for making me feel like I'd trained with them for years. Thier a very friendly and very professional club extremely highly recommend to anyone looking to start krav maga.

I signed up for the fitness and wellbeing; I stay for the cheese jokes. I heard about WCKMG after a work mate suggested the taster sessions. Hooked after 1 session. Great group of people of different ages and physical/technical abilities and everyone is made to feel welcome. One of the unexpected benefits was to my mental health. I had no idea how much of a difference could be made to my stress levels. Lee is very supportive and empathic and this is reflected in Carl, Kevin and Stuart. Sign up and feel better.

We really enjoyed the Confidence session - it was pitched at just the right level for my 7 year old to enjoy and I also picked up some great new ideas too!

My two girls attend the 11am Krav session. They love it. Lee and his team make learning fun.
Certainly ace for getting fit. Toughens them up ready to protect themselves.
Keep up your fab work guys.

Been for four sessions now, really good instructors that make it fun and informative simultaneously. Everybody is very friendly and the classes are well organised.

The physiotherapist Aimee located inside West Coast Martial Arts is by far the best physio I have ever used. Worth every penny
I. T.
A real world self defence system that doesn't sugar coat the realities of potentialy bad situations. A really friendly bunch of folk and highly qualified instructors. Some sessions are technical, some will push you to physical limits, if you don't try you won't know!
S.
Great way to get and stay in shape and meet new people while learning to handle unwanted and unexpected situations. I've only being going a few months but have learned so much, it's as much about understanding how to position yourself, how to identify an attackers weak spots as strength to get yourself out of danger quickly.
K. K.
It’s an excellent physical workout and a very effective way of self-defense training.
The instructors’, and also the more advanced members, are working together to bring out the best of you.

Loved the classes, everyone was really friendly and it's a great workout after a tough day. The best bit is that I made friends from the club.

A Lithuanian brute thought he would over charge me 8 pounds for what was advertised as a 6 pounds car valet whilst i was perusing the pegonias in dobbies in speke
suffice to say he wasn't so cocky after a spinning outside slap kick to the kipper
