Our child is flourishing at this school. The teaching is personalised to our child and the teachers are fully invested in ensuring all aspects of the children's development are catered for. The semi-rural setting is wonderful, affording opportunity to learn in a quiet environment at the child's pace without unnecessary distractions, but equally importantly to explore the outdoors with woodland (complete with a woodland classroom) and meadows on the doorstep.

We have two children attending Alder Bridge which has become a very special part of our family. Watching them grow with so much joy in their hearts as they travel along the school nurturing path is a gift.

Our son attends the Kindergarten at Alder Bridge and for him it is a place where he has the space and time to develop social skills, build a deeper understanding of relationships, as well as an appreciation of interactions with children of a variety of ages. The Kindergarten is a wonderful transition from home to school, that is gradual and builds in terms of what is expected as the children get older. For the whole family, we have been welcomed into a vibrant school community, where children are given space to become themselves.
Ultimately, we would like our son to have a full and rich childhood, to have a love of learning, to understand and be confident in how he learns, rather than to memorise information in order to pass government imposed tests. When we first visited Alder Bridge we knew that this would be the school to give him these gifts and our experience has served to reinforce this. We feel very lucky to have such a school local to us, and both my husband and myself wish we had been able to attend such a school when we were children!

Our 17 year old daughter went through from Parent and Child group (at 2 1/2 yrs old in 2002) , Kindergarten, and then to class 8 ( year 9 ) which well equipped her with the knowledge but also social and emotional confidence for the culture change to state school, GCSEs and beyond. She's very happy at college now though she still visits the school for events and whenever she can, and often says how she misses it. Our 11 old yr daughter has reached class 6 ( year 7 ) and wants to do the same as her sister. They both see the school as an extension of home.
As parents we appreciate the school's method of encompassing all of a pupil's faculties in a thoughtfully paced whole-person developmental experience guided by teachers who are able to take a 'third parent' role with quality, care and consistency over the years.
Our highest priority for our girls was to have a positive formative educational experience, and Alder Bridge has achieved it. We couldn't imagine being anywhere else !

Both my children attend Alder bridge, every morning they run to school, excited to begin a new day in the wonderful environment around them.
The school educates in a healthy, well balanced manner. The children are happy both socially and educationally. The teachers provide for them taking into account individual abilities, strengths and needs. They enjoy school, what better way to begin their journey of education.
The community spirit is strong, friendly and the families we have the pleasure of knowing make valuable and genuine contributions to the community and the school.
We are delighted to see our children blossom so wonderfully and Alder Bridge school has a large part to play in this.

My son attends kindergarten here and our experience has been extremely good. The teachers do a wonderful job understanding each individual children's needs, and accompany them through their development at a natural pace.
It was amazing to watch the process by which our son started going to school. This was done gently, without pressure or trauma, and continued up until he was happy to stay in school alone. That process has continued to this day, with him gaining confidence every day. The end product is that, even at such an early age, he has nothing but positive feelings towards the school. What better way to start his education?
Some people may be put off by the school following Steiner's principles. Sadly, there are plenty of websites misunderstanding the philosophy and spreading distorted conclusions about it based on anecdotal evidence.
I would invite anyone interested to approach the school with an open mind, and consider what do they want for their children. If they want their children to be able to read and write by the age of four, then this is unlikely a school for them.
If they want their children to develop their cognitive and social skills in the strongest possible way, and through their education (both at school and at home) develop into confident, creative and balanced individuals, then they may be find here what they're looking for.
And for those that think learning to write at a younger and younger age is the better way to academic achievement, please know my own Steiner/Waldorf education was by no means a hindrance to my university degree. On the contrary, my education taught me the skills necessary to study, to understand, and to be inquisitive. Learning at my own pace as a child was indeed an advantage over my fellow students later in life. As Sir Ken Robinson expertly said: "University doesn't start in Kindergarten. It starts in University." Please don't rush your children unnecessarily, and don't let them think a degree is a measure of success in itself.

Since moving to Alder Bridge from an "Outstanding" local state school last Sept our child has developed in leaps and bounds.
