I've been training here since April 2019 and it's brilliant. Simon is an excellent teacher, hugely knowledgeable and experienced. He conveys the techniques (and the theories behind them) in a clear, simple manner. Loads of classes on the timetable for bjj, submission wrestling & striking, multiple black belts, great training partners and everyone is very helpful if you need a pointer here and there too. My 8yo daughter loves the kids classes! Highly recommended 👍

I joined McGovern academy back in 2011, when I moved local to the area. It’s been a great place to unwind with top class instructors. We now have 6 black belts and many brown belts.

First of all, I want to say thank you to Simon and everyone at McGovern Academy for the warm welcome. I've been going here now for 5 weeks or so now myself and my two kids a couple weeks longer than me. The kids always have a good time and are always excited whenever it is jiu-jitsu day for them! Becky (who teaches the kids classes) has been amazing to them! As for myself, I am currently doing the BJJ fundamentals and just started to do other classes and Simon has been very thorough and patient with his explanations and demonstrations which helps me feel at ease when practising the varying techniques. Everyone else who is there (special shout out to Ben, Sam and Craig!) has been amazing from top to bottom with helping me with anything I ask for whether it be going over techniques, theory or sparring. I would highly recommend to anyone who is thinking of joining here!

Been training here for around 4 months now, started as a complete beginner. Everybody was extremely welcoming and I have met lots of great people, it is very much a family atmosphere. The coaching is also top class, Simon is well respected within the martial arts community and from my very first session it was clear that this is well justified. Other experienced students also chip in with coaching and help out, meaning that there is always plenty of experience to call upon. The academy accommodates everybody, whether your aim is to learn self defense, get in shape or to compete in BJJ/MMA.

Trained here for 15 months and what I can say about this place is 1) extremely friendly environment able to transmit great motivation to achieve whatever your goal is; 2) 2 very highly experienced real black belts, not a little thing when you hear about guys pretending to be what they are not. Come here and train and learn from real top black belt instructors! 3) EVERY level is welcomed and followed, from fundamental classes to competition sparring. No matter what your level is, be motivated and positive and in this place success will come for you ;)
