g. f.My loyal pair of Dr martens had finally had enough of me lazily sliding them on and off without unfastening the buckle. I was devastated but not angry or surprised when that strap finally had enough.
A colleague had mentioned this local cobbler, as we were discussing the rather impersonal service we'd both experienced at a very well known cobbler nearby.
I solemnly entered, laid my lifeless shoe on the counter and expressed my concerns. I had never been to a cobbler so didn't know if this was something they would be able to fix. Of course it was! Nothing was too much trouble here.
I braced myself for the damage... A fiver! A fiver for my favourite pair of shoes to live again! Curious, and less out of pocket than I thought, I asked what the remedy would be for the grazes and scuffs my dear shoes had accumulated over the years. The answer was black shoe polish (duh!).
I left, comforted that my shoes were in a safe pair of hands and made a mental note to buy some black polish once they were out of theatre.
I collected my leathery patients a couple of days later and took them home to rest. Upon putting them on today, I barely recognised them! I thought maybe they had given me someone elses docs by mistake. Someone responsible who takes good care of their shoes.
In fact, the kind gentleman had just polished them up for me. I am so touched by that simple gesture that probably took him a few minutes but has really made my day.
I will definitely be coming here again and recommending the place to all my friends!
