If you love books a great place to visit, cafe on the first floor
C. M.
Great range of books and located centrally in Belfast. Spread over two floors with a customer friendly layout and plenty in each section. There is a cafe upstairs which is ideal for reading/relaxing and also toilets located in the corner of the upstairs floor.
T. D.
Interesting finds, helpful staff. Whatever topic you are passionate about it is easy to find something to pick up and start reading immediately. after reading the other reviews, I wish I had stopped at the cafe!
T. M.
Always enjoy looking around and love the smell of a new book only problem is looking for a particular author/next in series, I always leave with more than expected although a stop off at the café for a bite and great coffee helps to make the visit even more enjoyable.
J. S.
Best book sellers in Northern Ireland. Good selection of subjects. Staff friendly and helpful. Also has a cafe.
D. C.
Great bookstore that also contains a nice cafe. The staff are extremely helpful in locating books for you. Always seems to be busy inside, which is great to see in a local bookstore.
J. K.
Good place for books. Wide variety and cosy atmosphere. Also does "Blind Book dates" which detail the contents of the books, but with the cover blank so you can read a book you otherwise wouldn't.
f. m.
My favourite coffee shop in Belfast, just happens to also be in a great bookstore 😍 Ground have the tastiest lunches and desserts /traybakes/cakes! It's definitely worth pit stopping here if your in town.
M. R.
Great stop for hundreds of books of various kinds. The cafe up the stairs is great as well for when you want to read the book you've just bought.
A. S.
Love this place. Has a cozy café on the top floor that feels very inviting to sit and read your new books in.
J. F.
As a local author, the Waterstones Lisburn branch is superb. If only they'd promote local established writers and place their books where the public could see said book up on the shelves, it would be a marvellous experience.
H. F.
Very nice helpful staff, lovely atmosphere and a nice clean shop and came out with a much anticipated copy of the Sagas of the Icelanders
V. M.
On busy Saturday, lack of air in cafeteria
P. G.
Great bookshop and lovely helpful staff. Always worth a visit.
A. L.
A great place to browse for a new book to indulge yourself in, or to relax in their café.
K. M.
Beautiful store. So wonderful selection of books.
O. G.
Went here with my granddaughter last week, it's very well laid out and the assistants were knowledgeable and pleasant.
A. A.
The brown paper wrapped books are genius. The staff are always great.
P. M.
A magical bookshop in the city centre not far from City Hall. Always helpful staff and great layout of books and information. Pubs, coffee shops and cafes all in close vicinity.
D. P.
A large variety of books here. Its not as clearly organised as the one in Cardiff, but it is just a vast and the staff are just as helpful. although waterstones can be heavy on the wallet sometimes, their options and customer service continues to make them a place I regularly want to buy from.
R. K.
Great selection of books and super helpful staff
I. D.
Pretty much my favourite place in the world. Great range of books, lots of nice recommendations. Great service as well!
L. O.
Great place for a book lover. Wide variety and a lovely selection for all ages. Great staff who are always happy to help.
A. L.
Great range of books and it's nice to just go and 'browse' to find something new - especially for the kids - but we usually end up seeing what we want in store then ordering online for next day delivery from Amazon and saving quite a bit. Visiting as a family of 4 and the kids usually wanting 2 or 3 books we find we can save £20 - £30 by ordering on line. I don't mind paying a pound or two extra for the experience of shopping in store but saying £30 over around 8 books is significant. Yes - my shopping habits is leading to the demise of the high street... :(
S. S.
Quick service. Books well laid out and easy to find. Informative staff...nothing was trouble for them.
M. H. M.
Very knowledgeable staff, helpful friendly and did not mind me leafing through a couple of books before making my choice - in the coffee shop of course! Only thing I did not like was the elevator set up.
J. C.
Very easy to pick up my book and friendly staff
A. S.
Great selection of books and we'll set out store
G. Ó. C.
Great buzz and lovely coffee shop.
D. K.
Lovely book store over two floors a great selection for anyone young or old. There is also a cafe up stairs. Some items are a little expensive for what they are, but you are sure to find what you need, you could spend ages there with there selection, very well laid out. Also in a very convenient location.
N. I.
Waterstones in Belfast has very pleasant staff and a bewildering (in a good way) variety of books to choose from. I used their order a book at the cash desk service for the first time and it was excellent.
C. S.
Great place to find any book you're looking for. Also lovely concept of a coffee shop.
J.
This is a book lover's shop. The staff are friendly and helpful and there's a great variety of books here. There's also a lovely coffee shop upstairs. I always enjoy visiting.
R. G.
Love Waterstones, could spend all day looking through the shelves, staff always very helpful and easy to chat to.
j. w.
Great location including restaurant very good staff
J. M.
Absolutely love it here, an amazing selection of books from many genres and friendly staff, I could stay there for hours.
C. D.
Popped in for a particular book for a friend's birthday present. Emma, the lady who served me was extremely helpful and friendly! She even wrapped the book for me! First class customer service 5-Stars
L. R.
Amazing, I love this shop so much. So many books to choose from, I was in the store for 40 minutes because I couldnt stop looking at them fjdjd. My bank is broken now but its okay. Have some great lgbtq options such as the whole heartstopper series which I will definitely be back for
C. B.
Great selection, love the staff recommendation cards on the shelves as they give it that small bookshop feel even though it is a chain. Happy the loyalty card has moved to a plastic card as it means I can put it into my phone instead of constantly losing my wee stamped card and finding it ages later. So happy with my trip today, the tables of recommendations were varied, relevant and interesting. I enjoyed the Tiktok/Booktok table as many of the books on my wishlist were on there.
C. W.
Helpful staff, friendly, good selection of books,
H. M.
Huge selection of books and a great coffee shop up stairs. Nice atmosphere.
S. S.
Books, puzzles, games, can find it all here, really nice place!
E. T.
Careful as possible re hand sanitising and distancing! Pleasant, helpful staff. Great selection of books well displayed. Found gifts for four family members and one for myself! Ten pound discount wih loyalty card. What's not to like?
V. Y.
Staff are friendly and helpful.
Brilliant range of a variety of genres of books, kids books and jellycats. Aswell as some diary's and cute stationary.
A. O.
Amazing, any book lover will be lost for days. Both my daughter and me could've set up camp!! ❤️❤️❤️
i. b.
Slightly difficult to access with a wheelchair would be my issue. Especially around the checkout area. Otherwise a lovely store
A. R.
Fantastic place in Belfast, variety of books and kids books.
E.
Friendliest staff I've ever met, even the shoppers were so polite, amazing selection of books and definitely be going back
d. t.
Great place, great staff.
I. d.
Fantastic selection and staff went the extra mile to find a certain book for me
J. P.
I stumbled upon this book store around the corner from the Visit Belfast visitor bureau looking for one book, left with four. Beautiful 2 story with coffee shop upstairs with seating. They have everything you need, cards, stationary, books of all genres. The staff is very customer service oriented. They helped me get my books quickly.
L. M.
I went into Waterstones today to get a gift for a friend. I was served by Gerard, who put the book I was buying through, then he informed me that the latest release from the author had came out. He went to get the book for me, however it was sold out so took my details, telling me he would phone me when he checked the latest delivery to see if the book had came back in. True to his word, Gerard called me to tell me the book had arrived and that he would leave a copy over for me. I was delighted with the experience and Gerard provided excellent customer service!
G. M.
Staff are very courteous, helpful and knowledgeable about what is in store and where items are located. I asked if a certain book was in store and the staff member was off to get it for me. You don't get that with online purchases.
D.
Lovely book shop with a lovely cafe
A. M.
I was able to order the book I wanted online, only 50p dearer than other sites but no postage or packaging charges, collected it in Belfast that afternoon. Quick and friendly service. Started reading on my way home on the bus! Lovely experience, great book! Will always try to source books here first!
J. H.
Great bookshop but the staff are exceptional. Ready to help and take their time to make sure you are happy with your purchase. And will order for you if the books you want aren't in store
H. P.
Plenty of books, staff warm and friendly,
always go there for my favourite authors when in print, tea/coffee house upstairs
though haven't used it yet my fault
Could have an American section/floor just
like their apparent shop in Amsterdam
actually they need to move to bigger
premises to accommodate disability people
P. M.
Great to go to a shop where your custom feels valued. An oasis of peace and calm. Staff were very knowledgeable and guided me to the section I needed. It was 1st visit and very short. Given the whole in shop experience I will be a more frequent visitor. Well done Waterstones!!!!
E.
Great to see this store returning to full opening, as book stores go if they haven't got it, they will within a few days.
C. H.
Very reasonable selection of genres in a flowing layout. In store cafe serves good coffee but with expected capital city prices.
All staff welcoming and helpful. Again broad selection of books and lots of seating make this store ideal for browsing.
E. L. B.
Fantastic selection, particularly in history, politics and sci-fi, worked by friendly staff
P.
A nice ambience, helpful staff and a very good selection of books.
K. M.
Not the largest Waterstones, but a wide selection of titles all the same. Really well laid out store, which gives you that comforting feel that's replicated across all Waterstones' stores. Although I didn't buy anything this time, I heard staff speaking to other customers, and they seemed helpful and friendly.
L. M.
As the only book store left in the city centre, I thoroughly enjoyed my time looking for Christmas present ideas. Just a pity the coffee shop was closed. But I will be back in again. Well worth a visit.
m. m.
Love this book shop the staff are very friendly and very helpful. When looking for a book with certain criteria for my daughter the lady was especially helpful giving me a few books to choose from.
R. W.
A lovely bookshop with a great variety of books. The interior and exterior is nice. The staff are friendly and there is a great atmosphere to the place. Really like it there are lots of them and they vary in size. There is normally a cafe which serves nice food and drink so you can relax while reading a new book. I would not call this an ideal place to go for breakfast or dinner as it is more for a snack or maybe lunch. A really good place.
E. B.
A wonderful selection of books, spanning two floors. There is a peaceful atmosphere, with some seats placed randomly throughout so you can take a moment to scan through some of your book options. There is also a cafe on the top floor to relax amongst the books and maybe enjoy a spontaneous read of an engrossing purchase.
P. H.
I visited for the Ground espresso coffee shop on 1st floor but the bookshop is lovely. Spread over 2 floors it has a wide stock holding. Orders can be made in store or online and collected here. A little more costly than Amazon but useful if you just want to browse and buy immediately.
S. B.
Was well organised and spaces considering the regulations felt. Plenty of sanitiser and had loads of staff on tills to prevent queues or keep any queues that did develop moving. As always best collection of books in Belfast. Feels safe and still to the usual high standards
D. L.
Good selection for early years, friendly helpful service. Love independent book stores.
M. E.
Had all my daughter needed, quality books. The coffee shop is a great feature for the store.
N. M.
Great selection. Nice store layout. City centre location
C. S.
medium sized Waterstones with good range of books and lots of nice cards, gift wrap and fab cafe. cafe is the standout feature. my kids love a trip here to browse and choose a book followed by a hot chocolate.
R. M.
Lovely bookshop. Very friendly and helpful staff. Books very often at the same or cheaper price than online outlets and you're supporting a local business. Great cafe upstairs with free WiFi where you can sit and read undisturbed for hours.
D. M.
Love this store- wonderful selection of books and other things too, like board games and stationery. Coffee shop upstairs always a great place to go too
L.
The Waterstones on fountain street is so delightful. The staff are very friendly and helpful, always willing to help you hunt down a book. I love taking my young cousin to the kids section, the displays are always imaginative and he enjoys them so much.
D. D.
Fantastic place to get what your looking for, very clean layout and a wide range of books and the staff couldn't help you anymore than they do, very helpful without being overbearing, obviously this is just my experience but I'm a hard fella to please at the best of times and I left feeling like I had been well looked after. Good store indeed.
R. E.
Always well stocked with new and older books in almost every category. Very friendly staff and comfortable seats for you to sit and read a few pages before you commit to buying a book. Prices are reasonable for most books and there are usually some offers on.
D. S.
Love Waterstones. Can't fault the place. Helpful, friendly staff who seem to genuinely enjoy their work.
P. I.
Brilliant service at such a busy time of the year! The queue was nearly out the door and so it was hard to navigate but a lovely girl called Lara took the time to help me find the perfect books for my other half. Would highly recommend visiting this store as even at their busiest they are very informative, helpful and friendly!
W.
It's very cramp going into the shop with covid restrictions you'd think they would take away some of the clutter stands entering the shop. Otherwise a very enjoyable place to me.
S. F.
This is one of my favourite shops in Belfast - so many books to choose from and even if you’re in for just a browse there is plenty to catch your attention near the entrance. Lots of local authors are highlighted throughout the shop as well - always great to see :)
R. L. N.
A place to escape and become immersed in a forest of tranquillity. The travel section is bliss.
A. D.
Great coffee, relaxed atmosphere, free to just have a look in a book. Includes graphic novels and shop also good for cards and little gifts. Not a plug haven for laptops but has a few.
J. O.
Fantastic book store, it has a little bit of everything else as well except what I was looking for, Calvin and Hobbes books.
F. K.
Very lovely bookshop and helpful staff. I contacted them via e-mail asking if a book I wanted is in stock and because it wasn’t they ordered it for me and it was ready to pick up when I came to Belfast. Thank you for this kind of customer service, I appreciate it.
F. B.
Brill bookstore. Walked in looking for Christmas presents for 7 kids between 13 and 3, got all I needed. Has great books, games, cards, gift vouchers ... all you would expect from a great bookshop. Staff very friendly, helpful and efficient.
H. M.
Really clean and organized store, staff very friendly and helpful. Great selection of books for every genre.
A. H.
Good books, choice of gifts and I always buy my birthday cards here. The coffee shop is a favourite with all the family as are the chocolate brownies.
B. S.
One of my favorite shops in Belfast, staff is always friendly and helpful and the coffee shop is just everything. The perfect place for a chat with your friends or just getting lost in all the amazing books. 📚❤️
S. A.
Nice bookstore with good collection. Have never tried their in-house cafe but looks like worth a visit. They also have some good boardgames.
D. M.
Had exactly what I needed (cello tape)
J. F.
Great selection, comfortable environment and good coffee shop.
F. O. H.
Lovely shop, and an amazing selection of books. Will always recommend Waterstones
S. V.
Love going into Waterstones, such a lovely atmosphere, so relax and can take ur time searching for favourite books. Found a few more books for my reading list this year, so will be back on pay day 😀❤.
K. I.
A really nice bookstore. Constantly improving. Great coffee shop. Though the bathrooms are quite grim. They should also be open to all customers. Not likely I'll buy a book if I need to pee you know.
B. P. a. M.
If you are looking to get amazing books this is the rigth place to go, you can even read your favourite book in a comfortable sofa. If you can't find what are you looking for they can get it for you and if you think is not good enough you can give the book back. I really love this place is so big =). I highly recommend this place.
G. D.
Waterstones in Belfast is a nice little oasis away from the street. That's not to say it isn't busy, but I had a nice leisurely coffee on the 1st floor in the Ground café people watching, very relaxing. The shop is laid out logically and the tables of select books are inviting, I don't think you can ask much more of a book shop with real physical books! The staff are helpful and polite, offering to escort you to the section/book you are looking for, on the whole this is a very pleasant experience.
G. K.
Fantastic selection of books combined with the smell of coffee at the in-store Ground coffee shop. Could spend hours just browsing. Helpful and pleasant staff who would go out of their way to help you.
G. S.
Great range of books. Coffee shop. Nice atmosphere.
C. K.
great to be able to go in and browse before buying...can't beat a proper bookshop
É.
Great but expensive book shop.
N. W.
I'll be honest, it's quite a squeeze downstairs, especially when it's busy. I just felt like I was in other customer's way and it made me really uncomfortable. I also struggled with who worked there and who didn't, I didn't see anyone with any name tags and had to sort of guess if they were an employee or not.
There's lots of books there and I'm sure if you couldn't find the one you were looking for they'd order it in for you.
J. M.
There is a great selection of books to choose from. These range from biographies to history to fiction and beyond. Staff willing to help if needed and won't bother you unless you ask. The only issue is their isn't many deals on books. Most are priced at RRP and can be sourced cheaper elsewhere.
l. G.
Great store, clean and bright. Knowledgeable staff, huge range of books, and always some good offers. Can order for you if you can't find what you want on shelves.
E. S.
Love this place. It's so cosy.
The cafe in waterstones is fantastic. They have water refills available to refrain from wastage.
I like their sides (taco sort of crisps), but I do think that their wraps aren't always great and would love a few more sandwich options.
M. M.
Good book store
P. M.
Always enjoy a browse round Waterstones - love books stacked high
B. C.
For the true bibliophile, there is nothing to beat the ambience of a well stocked bookshop. If Waterstone's don't have it in stock, or can't get hold of it, you may be reasonably satisfied that it probably isn't worth reading anyway...
J. M.
Large city-centre bookshop arranged over two floors with a café upstairs. There is a good display of books, many with handwritten staff recommendations. It also sells a range of novelty gift items - many of them book related, as well as cards, wrapping paper and stationery.
J. S.
Roomy, comfy sofas to relax in and pore over so many books before deciding which to get this time round. The only dilemma is whether to buy for self or someone else. I love it!
P. S.
Knowledgeable staff, especially for a chain book store. The cafe up stairs is good as well. Good place to hide from the rain and read for a bit
H. N.
A great selection of books and a fabulous coffee shop on the 1st floor.
J. m.
I like visiting this store, such a lot to see, not only books, could spend hours browsing while trying to make up my mind, very reasonable prices too, usually have some half price offers etc on, store has sit down areas as well and a small library to enable resting and reading.
D. R.
Waterstones is my long-time favourite book shop, recently I bought Adam Rutherford's new book: 'a brief history of everyone everywhere'... the big W I excellent for book shopping and delicious refreshing snacks 👍
D. D. A.
Yes, some books and items can be cheaper elsewhere. Yes, I wish there were many book stores in Belfast. But, the lady on the second floor’s very good with kids and kind to families whose kids throw tantrums. She offered our child a pen and a small notebook. She approached us we left the store as our child was being a child (unreasonable) and handed the kid the pen and the notebook, which weren’t for sale but belonged to the staff.
D. M. G. C.
Delighted that my Waterstones vouchers never go out of date. As well as books, Audio books, DVDs, games and some Lego was available. A nice cafe upstairs too.
H. W.
The people who work here are super friendly and knowledgeable. The book selections are interesting and I always find something to read.
K. F.
Could do with changing up the titles available in the sports section. Lack of books on martial arts and strength and conditioning.
F. S.
I like Waterstones, they always have offers on and the children's section is great but they didn't have The Hunger Games books & it's always cold. Staff are well informed & most are friendly.
C. F.
Lovely wee store that has a nice cafe inside to enjoy your books in. However their selection of technical books is very small and has nothing but mostly"x for Dummies" books.
T. K.
An excellent collection of books for all ages
E. O.
This bookshop is amazing, it’s massive (it has two floors), the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly and they even have a cafe where you can sit and enjoy your coffee and a book!
T. 2.
Fantastic coffee shop on the first floor. Very clean and good. Fantastic staff
A. M.

Very good bookshop with wide selection of books for all ages. Has coffee shop and customer toilets. Sells board games and stationary as well
c. c.
Love this bookstore. Could spend all day in it. Staff very helpful. Cafe upstairs just an added bonus
R. C.
Staff could be a bit more friendly we ask to have the table cleaned girl was to please
J. C.
Great bookstore with a lovely comfortable cafe, particularly liked the children's reading area. The family had an enjoyable time here and left with a few favourite books.
S. W.
Staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. Only issue I have is there is not enough of them. Only one staff member on the tills despite the long queue of customers waiting to pay.
n.
Great bookstore in the centre of Belfast. The staff are extremely helpful and are always very willing to help and are patient. The store has a wide variety of books. From science books, to Japanese manga to jigsaws. There is something here for everyone.
R. W.
It's more than a shop, it's an experience. Great selection of books, stationery and gifts. The Ground coffee shop instore is an added bonus.
L. H.
Really nice Waterstones with a 'Ground' coffee shop upstairs. Feels like browsing your own bookshelves it has a warmth to it. Good selection of books as ever.
F. H.
Used it for click and collect. Book ready for pick up with an hour after ordering. Staff helpful and efficient.
g. s.
I was having a look on your website and i was impressed, you have access to the books i read. I also have a question, do you know why the title of the law of success is spelled the law of succes?
F. M.
Books and a coffee store. It's a fabulous mix However, if you have a wheelchair you need to go through the side building to access a lift to go upstairs. Staff downstairs are happy to direct you, just ask.
S. M.
Long queues before Christmas, but very friendly staff.
T. G.
This has to be my favourite book store chain because it has a lack of comercialisation with the dark wood and carpet it and book smell. It has great coffee place upstairs and every genre of book you could hope for.
S. N.
Omg I could get lost in these bookshop. Absolutely heaven with a cafe on top floor to peruse your bought items. Fabulous array of all types of books. The childrens department is soo cute. Loved it.
J. C.
Great range of sports books, and very experienced staff

J. H.
Always love a visit to Waterstones.....not just books 😍
N. S.
Nice collections of books for each ages, love it
S. L.
Friendly, helpful staff. Extensive selection, but could use more non-English language books. Free order-to-store service with SMS/e-mail updates. Decent café upstairs. I always call in when I am in town.
M. B.
Always love to browse the fab selection of books, then relax with a coffee.
K. M. M.
It isn't so big but it is perfect.
Lots of good books
B. G.
Not too familiar with bookstores but the staff were very knowledgeable, helpful and super friendly.
C. O.
Peaceful and nice. Only issue is buying too many books (they also have a place to read)

L. J.
Ordering from Waterstones is easy and delivery is fast. I enjoy browsing in the shop and maybe have coffee upstairs in the coffee shop.
M. P.
Very helpful staff, Female staff member went out of her way to find a book for me.
J. K.
Hard to believe Belfast once boasted two Waterstone's within a short stroll of each other. Now we have one, the internet and Easons- which is kind of a bookstore in the WH Smith mould. Belfast people badly need to read more books so it's good that this one is well laid out, with friendly staff and always something new and interesting to consider. Staff recommendations are a nice 'indie' touch and a pretty decent cafe on the 1st floor makes for a pleasant visit. Toilet needs a bit of an upgrade but other than that, one of Belfast's better shopping experiences.
K. M.
Always love a visit to Waterstones. Nice for a browse round a well laid out book store and a loylt of lovely gifts. Great cafe too.
K. W.
Great bookstore, good selection of books. Prices are standard with other bookstores in the area. Staff is pleasant to deal with.
G. M.
For the book lovers. Lots to choose from. Staff very knowledgeable. Coffee shop upstairs. Toilets available for customers. Children's book section. Also gifts and toys available.
K. A.
The bookshop is well stocked,
cosy & welcoming & the cafe is very nice with lovely staff but will someone please do something about the 3rd world toilet facilities!
P. M.
Fiona was really helpful at the click and collect service. Thank you! Polite, efficient and friendly. Excellent employee!
T. C.
Excellent range of books and, now that Easons has disappeared from our high street, the best source of physical books in Northern Ireland
T. R.
