Reviews of Bullring Rag Market
H. P.
Fantastic range of stalls from kitchen ware, wool, fabric on the roll to fresh fish and meat. The place has a lively, exciting atmosphere with a lot going on. The fish stalls cater for a wide range of products, selling squid, lobster, scallops to conger eels!
L. W.
Absolutely loved the Rag Market - what friendly helpful stall holders!
Bargains galore with genuine advice & the cafe.... absolutely gorgeous & incredible value for money. Am out of area but will definitely be returning for another visit here soon!! Merry Christmas Lovely kind people!

One of my favourite places to shop in Birmingham have a wide range of things to buy and stalls. My favourite is the stall that sells the incense sticks and fragrance oils e.t.c. Birmingham rag market is Birmingham. I can remember going with my nan and grandad about 30 years ago. Absolutely a place that you need to see if in Birmingham.
r. f.
We love Birmingham. Its a vibrant, beautiful, up and coming city. I loved in the city centre 26 years ago, and it has changed so much for the better. Fantastic shopping experience with the markets all around.
J. M.
Curtain fabric, velvet texture, would have cost a fortune if I bought the curtains from a shop readymade. Check out this market stall for best prices and great looking curtains. (Zoom in one of these pictures for the name and details of the stall). Say Janet sent you.
M. G.
Do not go here if you think you will pick up cheap branded clothing, nothing is top, top quality (says it in the name, rag) but ok if you just need cheap clothes or something for a cheap fancy dress outfit. The fruit and veg is pretty good, so is the fish market, but they do smell a little bit of wee around the outside. This is due to the many homeless people in the city centre using the walls as a toilet. To summarise it's ok for food, but a little cheap for clothes and anything else.
s. b.
I love this place. So many different stalls including fabrics, clothes, confectionary, haberdashery, hardware, vintage, music and I could go on. It's a kaleidoscope of a shopping experience.
N. A.
Need markets like this every where
P. M.
It still has all of it's charm. Prices are the best in the West Midlands. And the fruit is always fresh.
J. M.
So many stalls selling everything. Well worth a visit. You'll definitely find something you didn't know you needed!!
M. L.
Not much to see here. Although I enjoyed the meat shops and fishmongers. Very limited but found a few giftshops that i liked.
M. S.
Fantastic bargains for everyone...
You can find anything and everything you want if you don't mind walking between the huge array of stalls.

F. W.
Went to see the hardware stall to buy a yard brush for sweeping the garden paths. I got one so it was worthwhile trip.
A. O.
Great place to get your fish, meat, poultry, fruits and veg.
A. 8.
I have always loved the rag market, from being dragged round as a kid & feeling lost in the crowds, not as busy these days but still some excellent stalls there, you can get vintage/designer clothes for a snip and the hardware stall is great. The phone guy in the middle is super helpful and really quick with repairs and there's lots of fabric stalls that have been there forever and the best place to get inscence! It's a Birmingham landmark and it would be great to see it reach its full potential again, now we have red brick market too in Digbeth maybe the Rag could attract some more independent traders and bring it back to its former glory, the old school stall holders used to bellow and really sell their selves and you always knew when the lady with the China was there, you could hear her, things change, but the market trade doesn't seem to die, people love a bargain and a rummage and I'd love this place back to its former glory
R. S.
Feel for traders .Due to clean air charges and parking charges and rent
K. A.
Love the market as ever got wot I needed very friendly people
J. J.

Lots of different and fish I'd never seen before. Didn't like seeing animal heads 😕
B. R.
Got a bit I'd character, better than the rest of the area. Chain, chain chain, chain of fools.
R. M.

A. D.
Interesting stalls and lots of variety really enjoyed the experience
K. F.
Still the same inside as 30 years ago.
D. N.
I love town but everywhere I looked was a drunk😮 or homeless person, overall still a great place.
B. N.
It's been a while since I was here, many empty stalls, a bit different from hustle and bustle I was used to seeing. There are still a good assortment of stalls to browse.
K.
Great place to pick up my favourite incense
T. S.
If your lucky you can find some gems down here!!!
A. s.
Govt wants to finish markets because they want to take only one thing from poor people. They want to give everything thing to tesco asda aldi etc. Ministers loves corruption
P. M.
I love going to the market because of the cheapest fruit and vegetables, clothes shoes toys , materials make up, everything really.👌🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
J. B.
Plenty of options,rather well organised
F. C.

T. C.
A very good place for clothes at good value
R. B.
Good for finding clothing and tech
M. S.
The quality has gone down hill from when I was a child visiting the old markets.
It is much more comfortable when it rains now though.
Limited selection of stalls outside compared to the old markets.
Indoor is no better, a few decent stalls worth visiting.
E. N.
All my favourite things to buy in the same walking distance of each other. I am always happy after a shopping spree or just window shopping. Check it out guys.
G. N.
Excellent choice of good value cloth.
A. B.
No matter what you want you will probably find it here at an affordable price. Within this market complex everything from fresh fruit, vegetables fish and meat are available together with clothing and homewares. There are probably more than 100 stalls to view both open air and undercover. Several cafes are present from sit down indoors to catering vans outdoor. Good value for money.
P.
Nice place to buy your groceries
V. O.
Bullring rag market is such a perfect place for low-cost but quality shopping.
There is a variety of food ingredients at low-cost. Loads of Asian (think of hot chillies or fresh parsley) and African food items (plantainssss... Cocoyams, Scotch bonnet; aka ata rodo) that sell for way more in the grocery shops. Just make sure you look well to select the freshest produce when buying.
I happened to be at the market about when the market was to close today and they were literally selling produce for half price! I was like 😳 yes please... 4 bowls of bell peppers😂
Fabric ... There are many big fabric shops close to the rag market but nothing beats the pricing and variety you'll find at the rag market. Many of the stall owners are kind and might even give you a discount if you buy a substantial amount of fabric metres. Also, some of them do some jawdropping sales on really nice quality fabric sometimes... Yàaaaayyyy!💃 Yes please ☺️
And of course, cash machine! The rag market stalls are cash runs so you definitely want to use the cash machine except you carry cash around normally. Thankfully, there are a couple of free cash withdrawal machines for use.
Sure to be back soon 😉
A. P.
Nice place to chat with people with different cultures while shopping fresh fruits and vegetables. Prices are reasonable and cheaper than supermarkets. Don't forget to have cash with you since they only accept cash. However, there are several ATM machine from which you can withdraw money with your credit or bank cards.
P. s.
Great place to get meat and stuff just a shame its not so easily accessible by car due to parking restrictions old market more fun and atmosphere
J. A.
The best market I’ve visited in the UK so far. This place is filled with all sorts. If you need fabric you’re in the right place!!!! But it doesn’t end there - you can get so many bits and bobs from electricals to food. Definitely worth checking out if your in the area and love a shop!
F. A.
What an amazing experience! I have been several times ( and I live in Wales ) so it's always a special journey - not been disappointed so far. Particularly good for fabrics, trimmings and haberdashery but it is an Aladdin's Cave in so many ways.
S. A.
Always like atmosphere and junk for sale here.
A. M.
I love going to market. Food is frest and good. Toilets are clean and available. On this place I found the meat I need.
L. L. (.
Love going to the rag market whenever I need to get good bargain items for a cheap price. The atmosphere and many stalls to find a bargain deal you never thought possible. It's the heart of what makes birmingham a great place to visit
M. S.
They has been improving.
T. S.
Now all you visitors out there. My wife and I go here once every 2 months. Great bargains friendly atmosphere at your leisure. Go before Birmingham City Council close this great site.
E. P.
An excellent opportunity to experience Birminghams cultural diversity. Visited today to find inexpensive fabric and I wasn't disappointed!! A lot of different goods for sale and the traders were all charming and straightforward. Plenty of fresh fruit and veg on offer just outside and if you fancy a cheap snack and a cuppa it's all there for you. A most enjoyable outing.
K. Y. K.
Great place to look for anything, be it big items like luggage case, or small items like clothes, belt, electrical gadgets and accessories, which are at the indoor area, within the building. The outdoor area are lined up with stalls selling edible items like fruits, vegetables and yogurt. The prices here are cheap with very good bargain !
D. B.
Best place to buy fabric LONG TIME CUSTOMERS
M. M.
Friendly staff always cheerful very helpful
e. w.
Love the fresh fruit and sea food
M. K. F.
It's a pretty good market. Wide variety of items available. Some stall holders are really rather customer unfriendly but it's their loss.
The loos in the rag market can be appalling and there is distinct scarcity of loo roll so come prepared.
It's pushchair and wheelchair accessible though some stalls tend to spill over or ppl just stop in the middle of the walkway.
N. L.
The rag market is a fun place to come and explore a lot of the unique things of Birmingham. I like to go to the outdoor market to check out all the fresh produce. I still can't believe how cheap their prices are and the quality is very good.
If you go inside you can get a lot of random knick-knacks, cloth, and everything else that you can imagine.
Also lots of meat and fish if you want those options. Definitely a fun place to come and shop
j. t.
Brilliant place to look round and get a bargain. Bought a lovely dress. Will definitely be returning. We need to support these local traders to keep them in business.
D. T.
It wasn't as busy as I thought it would be...The only downside was not many people were wearing face coverings, and nobody was enforcing it. The date of my visit was 28th of July 2020
M. M.
A nice day out at the market, some bargains to be had, needs more stalls.
E. V.
Love the rag market. Have found all sorts of fab stuff! More people should shop there, it’s an under-used and absolutely brilliant resource for our city.
T. M.
Enjoyed a wonder around the rag market and purchased some material which was a real bargain. Managed to find everything that we needed. Definitely recommend going here if you like to have a rummage around as I'm sure you'll get some good deals
R. L.
Visited today. Sadly half the stores still closed. If you looking for vampish lingerie and escort wear, you can find it here. Way cheaper than the branded stores.
K. F.
Always used to be 5* unfortunately. Shop front/Stall holders been edged out if markets. By council rent price hike for the last few years. Last year 1 shop front told me that rent went from £100 per wk to £400 per week. If marked areas where to be used. Just outside shop front and that included chip shop on corner who has invested in newer chairs, umbrellas, and rope stantions to mark out his area and keep customers safe and welcoming. Now it's only 1 line of small table and chairs. Instead of 4 gold all around the corner. Established stall holders who have been there for years had now gone. To the point where £1 bowl for fruit & veg, same make up stalls and mobile phone stalls, is all you have with lots of empty spaces. Only rag market, deterioration has slowed down a while. But you can see where it will end up.
Bham council ought to be ashamed of what they have done to a once vibrant, shopping area, where coaches where lined up to park and drop off visitors. Now you can see it dying on its feet.
Birmingham Rag, Indoor and Outdoor Markets rest in peace..
A. C.
I have always loved the vibe, deals and atmosphere of the market ever since I was a child and used to come here with my mother. I still love coming here and buying my incense sticks, material for my arts and craft, second hand books, fancy dress outfits, tobacco paraphernalia. This place is the real "one stop shop"
M. G.
Different types of things that you are going to find at very affordable prices. almost every thing that you need can be found in this market. freash fruit and vegetables are the best to buy from here large bowls that you will find at triple the place anywhere else in Birmingham.
A. D.
Great market xxx
M. S.
Lovely large indoor and outdoor market. Very large range of stalls and reasonably priced. Whole market was clean and tidy. If you like mooching around shops it's definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended.
J. H.
Everything you need at this classic market at rock bottom prices. City centres often push such trade to the periphery in favour of global brands, so happy to have this at the heart of the city. Never change!
R. G.
Immense variety of fish and meat cuts, amazing value on veggies. Careful though with some “fresh” egg sellers, check the laid date of the eggs you’re actually given (printed on the shells) and not broken.
S. (.
Amazing items at great prices some unique stalls and some copy cat stalls but defo worth the look! Found a nice stool that sells incense and another that sells punk patches and tees and good prices with some limeted edition merch, and some good food around aswell check it out
M. L.
Ideal shopping experience off the train and walk across the road and into the bullring in less than two minutes. You have the use of lifts so if you are disabled or using pushchair then it is possible for you to move from floor to floor. In walking distance of the market but any shops outside the bullring they are spaced out along the road.
J. F.
Nostalgic place with a lot of childhood memories so my opinion is biased. Same stallholders as ever, get anything from pet food to jewellery, knickers to chopping boards - the place has everything, but I wouldn't trust the nearby cash machines!
S. P. C.
I am in the market everyday. We still have a lot of choicest the nut shop provide my protein, new agent my scratch. Cards, gift shop for presents, West Indian products, craft items all in the indoor market. I buy fabrics in the other market. Sometimes I get shoes. The outdoor market is great for satsumas, bananas and mangoes. Snaxys outdoor cafe is great. We sit there and change the world in discussions. Whilst drinking tea we watch the world go by, call ambulances, watch fights, admire clothes. Its a great atmosphere with buskers, market traders shouted 'two bowls a pound' in a strange way. Eavesdropping is a great past time. 'my mum used to tell me don't fix what's not broken.' 'you have husband? No. Husband give too much trouble.' T shirts hats and sweatshirts are a good read. If you wanna know who's died, when the funeral is it the latest news you can get all that in the markets too
M.
I've been shopping here from a very young age and more times than not I find whatever I'm looking for on the cheap. I usually buy fabric/wool and other craft supplies here, you can also shop for fruit/veg meat, make up and clothing. I'm going to look for home ware soon too. It's a place to buy multiple items indoor and out.
H. T.
Brilliant. ..a very happy morning buying material....and beautiful ENGLISH chicken portions etc....what a wonderful atmosphere there...not quite like the 19 50's that I remember...such a lot of lovely buildings have disappeared...thats progress? They tell us.
B. B.
Love the rag market 💖
H. T.
Plenty of bargains for every taste in this iconic building
G. B.
Not as popular as the newer parts of Birmingham.
N. W. (.
Not very organised regarding covid guidance. This place was too crowded needs entrance control.
N. A.
I find really nice friendly place clean place lots of
Fruit
Cheese
Fish meat
Also halal meat
And the in door market is fantastic
Because people in there are always happy
To help even if you don't buy anything from them
J. C.
Absolutely fantastic market, great fresh fruit and vegetables plus the indoor Market has some great stalls especially if you like vintage levis and motorbike jackets, will definitely be going again soon.
L. W.
Only done half do all in few days
F. M.
Great place for all sorts!
Great and varied amount of stuff, from this to fabrics of all types to pet stores as hardware, kitchen utensils, jewellery etc. Generally good value for money.
T. P.
Historical part of the city I buy all my fruit and veg from here great market atmosphere and if you are lucky enough you will get serenaded by the cheeky starlings I also buy all my meat from the meat van never disappointed Mick is great there all year round all weathers
H. A.
Depending on whos there and what they have sometimes the produce is really good and also very cheap and they also have a market inside which sells shoes perfume make up sewing supplies and jewelry all for great cheap prices so i do recommend coming here but it does get really loud as the people do shout alot trying to compete with other stools
S. A.
Get all your cheap fruit here. Between 5pm and 5:30pm, you could get fruits for as low as £1 for two bowls or three bowls (or "bowlla" as the sellers call it). Lol
M. R.
Great place to look for a bargain
Y. T.
Bullring fantastic what a shame Bham market closing down after so many years why turn it into a foodhall theres plenty of eating spaces already in bham. They done this to northampton and ruined the town. Yvonne Thomson
t. e.
On the whole brill but some the "fresh" produce isn't that fresh!! Other week bought 5bowls of 2 strawberries, 1 green grape, 1 large potatoes & 1 of blueberries; whilst I checked as much as I cud they were clearly NOT in a good state.... ONLY bowl I could just bout save was 3/4's blueberries!! DEF a waste of £5!!
S. H.
Good for all your needs, could do with a revamp. It needs it considering the rest of the bullring has been rebuilt.
K. B.
Almost everything you need or want can be found and most of it is genuine, at a good reasonable price, busy and exciting.
A. E.
Lots of range available most likely will have what you want, agree some things are poor quality but its easy to see if so. Friendly sellers mostly and prices are ok but i always try and bargain
S. C.
Help your local traders ,they need your help .
J. P.
Famous locally, the rag market is worth a visit for anybody. There are many stalls offering a wide variety of products. All at fair prices and served with a smile. Real genuine people here.
G. T.
Brilliant place to shop
h. m.
If you like a rummage, this is heaven; a heady array of zips, threads and patterned tights compete with spices, wigs and bargain basement make up. If you don't like a rummage it's hell on earth; you can get lost in acid coloured boas and frilly, uncomfortable looking pants. Its a gusset lined rabbit warren of stalls where grim faced women judge and mock you.
S. B.
What a fabulous place to shop. everything you could imagine sold here.
who needs the internet when you can get better things cheaper than online. must visit to believe it
J. T.
Great place to shop
J. M.
The rag market is full of Quality products at low prices, I especially like the hand crafted items sold at Craft Imagination on the north wall inside the market. The work they do is amazing
m. m.
It's convenient and staff very good indeed.
Variety available too
S. V.
Me and my daughter go twice a year and have a great time shopping. We live in Worcestershire so we don't have a great market at all. So we always have a great time.
S. T.
Buzzing!
What a great traditional market - outdoor & indoor.
Plenty of banter from the stall holders.
Huge range of fresh food at great prices.
J. Y.
Now this place you wouldn't believe! Haven't been able to find a market like this in years! Friendly, fruit n veg like you've never seen! This place really is a must, ,,,, then visit the indoor market, , lol then the bullring! Ha ha
Z. M.
Not everything is of good quality yet sometime can get bargain for items like books and hardware stuff. Won't recommend apparel but some bits and pieces can come handy
s. t.
If you are looking for a good Bargain then head down to the Birmingham markets, they sell everything ranging from meats, fruits and vegetables all good quality food that cant be beaten on price. ( unless your growing it yourself LOL ).
The in door markets sell a whole range of things, from mobile phone covers, clothes., ,make up , hand bags, materials and fabric for sewing . There is something for everyone .
* warning _ make sure you keep wallets inside your coat pockets and ladies have a hand bag that is not easy to get into or slashed open as you do get loads of pick pockets here. However don't let it put you off going * you can get robbed anywhere and only i have lived in Brum 30 years and only been robbed in the markets once .
B. H.

S. M. R.
Very cheap fruit and vegetables to buy from all sorts of traders under one large tent kind of area. The downside is that this place at night gets urinated on etc and the council doesn't bleach it but only water it 2 times a week to make it look decent.
A. B.
Quieter than before lockdown. Not many people around
S. B.
Great place to browse & find items you can't find in the big stores at affordable prices. Can't believe there are plans to shut it down together with the indior market, its part on Birminghams heritage.
F. M.
Great place for all sorts!
Great and varied amount of stuff, from this to fabrics of all types to pet stores as hardware, kitchen utensils, jewellery etc. Generally good value for money.

J. S.
I love going to this old fashioned market. Good range of products at reasonable prices
S. S.
Great market ambience
P. B.
Market traders work hard to keep public happy at least you can see what you are buying and get help as well buying . And a friendly chat as well .
e. s.
The best market I've been to in years. Fresh produce and plenty of bargains too. Worth a visit.
A. M.
It's good
c. l.
Hasn't changed much, still as much stalls as before compared to the indoor market. What's happened why there's gaps of empty units?
M. W.
Great place to find a few vintage pieces with some friendly stall holders . Always a enjoyable hour or 2 looking round
C. S.
Wonderful fabrics at great prices. One of my favourite places in Birmingham.
F. D.
I have been coming here since I was a girl. Now I am a Grandma I bring my Grandchildren as it is still an exciting place to be in.
A. A.
My first time here and was very impressed with it all. I got the feeling that if you wanted something then this was the place to come.
S. C.
This place is fantastic for fabric, clothing and make up for reasonable prices. Get some bargains here everytime I visit.
A. w. R.
First time a been to town in years and must say I was not very impressed with the rag market. Very expensive and over priced. Lots of market stools empty. And nothing like how it was back in the day. Such a shame
V. P.
Went when almost close time but the fish not over cooked and chips fresh and the chicken big pieces thank you
D. W.
The Birmingham Bullring Rag Market is the best place to grab a bargain in Birmingham city centre. Between the traditional market hustle and bustle there are many stalls offering a wide range of products and services from tools and kitchen utensils to fabrics, cosmetics, and pet supplies.
