Large second hand (‘charity’) shop with lots of good and less good items. From plates to bed frames and from LP’s to milk cans. Not the cheapest, but there’s certainly a big selection.

We love this place , easy to park , great cafe on site , wonderful grounds .lots of vintage and good old charity shop finds , massive stock , friendly and helpful staff too .Easy to drop of donations, do check what they are taking .

Good Morning, Afternoon or Evening Madam or/ and Sir,
An interesting place. I like how it does such good. It feels like being in the 1950's in how good, honest people can transform things.
It is about working for a very good, fundamental cause. The government should be funding and supporting such projects fully, and ensuring that each person is valued and made to be as perfect a model to society as is possible. It's one charity where you can see in front of you exactly how their efforts have been put to use in order to make the difference the charity was set up for, those underlining principles!
It could be better though. Things need to be cleaned more - I saw dead flies in the items being sold which I cleaned out myself. And some items were also dusty in some instances.
Items can be repaired or cleaned or polished well by staff. For example, the brass items polished for them to show up better. Or the staff could take on specific items which they'd restore. That is an employable skill, they'd have fun, and they'd feel they've achieved something more.
It is run down as well. The staff and those living in the accommodation could fix this place up a lot more.
Otherwise, it is good. I think there are lines of volunteers who'd like to help!
Unfortunately, there is that attitude with some that because it is a charity, the staff and residents of Emmaus do not need to do that much compared to being in the "real world". And they perhaps don't take the pride sometimes that they could. On the flip side, some staff work with more care there than what I've experienced in businesses, whether a sole trader or larger SME (small or medium enterprise!)
I'll be more involved with them anyway and I'll see how it goes.
Thank you.

The biggest charity shop I've ever been
in. Wonderful place, full of bargains. The
best part, for me, was the 'Wood Recycling
Project'. The waste of wood is appalling.
These guys turn it into something really
useful. The work and purpose of this terrific
place is highly commendable. Popular cafe.
Sunny outside seating. Easy access.

The kind of place you want to linger in. From the first person who greets you, to the hellos you get and directions from bed section to superstore, this is clearly a special place. Such warm and friendly people, a huge selection of tempting items and particularly, potted plants and mid century furniture to spare. To then find that the Emmaus movement has grown globally from belle Paris is no surprise. What a great concept and good on all the people living and working there. The best customer service I've had in ages and a genuinely great place to be.

A couple of years ago, when moving into a new house , having far too much furniture, Emmaus were brilliant. Have been to the shops and they are wonderful. If you like to donate and or buy new items, this is you one stop shop, and for a good cause as well

I enjoyed my experience in. They also have pranic healers there on Fridays who help with stress relieve, and other ailments.
The collection of buildings looks old but there is a lot of space around.

An amazing place. Takes charity shopping to another level!
They direct you on entry, asking if you are donating or buying. Reasonable parking space available. It has various sections. There is an outside area for gardening/plants, the main building is huge and well laid out. Most things are “grouped”, so glasses are in one section, furniture another, clothing etc. It’s not overwhelming so you easily see what’s what. Round the corner there is another building for bedroom furniture and fittings. There is a cafe onsite, although I’m not sure of the opening hours during the pandemic. Staff are friendly. There is a smaller branch nearer Hove, but I must say this place has nailed it as far as charity shops go.

Lovely place in a historic spot of Portslade. Plenty of items on sale and friendly staff at the café.

lovely afternoon out. There is so much stuff to look through! The place is huge and if you like a good charity shop bargain this is the number one place to come. There is a lovely cafe with well priced and good food. When the weathers fine you can sit out in the garden. The staff are really sweet and very helpful.

This place is amazing. You could spend a long time looking in all the different areas at the secondhand bargains, all presented in a lovely building in interesting grounds. All so clean, I don't know how they manage it. Great proper cafe too. Loved it.

Amazing charity.
They do so much for people to help them in a tight spot.
The shop itself is set over several buildings. You can get furniture, beds, clothes, wood and breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The cafe is massive and good quality, well priced food.
Decent amount of car parking available.
If you're a bargain hunter, student or on a tight budget desperately needing a set of curtains and a chest of drawers then this is your first and only stop of the day.
L. K.
Great selection of second hand furniture, clothing, and other articles including a small plant nursery!, all well laid out. Fully accessible, good portions in the community cafe. Lovely grounds, all to help out people who are trying to sort out their lives.

Jus such a lovely place an brilliant charity❤️👍but last time I visited this month June 2021 the 2 women at the food hatch were so damn rude it was shocking an made me an my family very uncomfortable. Not on at all. ☹️

Bought an old trunk suitcase for a bargain £5 plus a picnic hamper in excellent condition for £10. Staff were amazing and very helpful. Everyone at Emmaus should be very proud of the store they have in Brighton. Will be going back on a regular basis
D. W.
Toilets are disgusting, great for all things second hand and cafe seems reasonable though.
A. G.
A great trip out. A simple, if slightly basic cafe and great browsing and shopping experience. Defiantly one of the best places to visit in Portslade. Go and support a valued community resource.

Had a sofa delivered 15th feb ... the delivery drivers are an asset to Emmaus, fun friendly, extremely helpful and a refreshing change to the usual delivery team you d get from any high street company! Well earned 5 stars guys , it wasn’t the most straightforward delivery and you lads smashed it 👍

Excellent charity, very well run. Great day out lots of second furniture. Staff were friendly. Nice little cafe selling very reasonably priced classic cafe food.

A fab place to browse and buy vintage, books, clothes, furniture, plants and a lot more. There is a good cafe serving snacks, lunch, all day breakfast and afternoon tea. All proceeds go to support this brilliant charity. Please support by donating and buying goods.

It was fab and staff were super friendly! I was just a bit disappointed how expensive some of the clothes were, £3-£4 For tops! Other then that, furniture etc lovely and fair price
E. C. (.
very peculiar place, had lunch at the café & went outside for a cigarette, tracksuited creepy guy appeared with no teeth & a newcastle accent offering to sell us bags of cannabis, politely said no but he hung around for a while babbling about all the furniture was infested with bedbugs, felt a bit itchy after that but the food was nice
J. D.
