Today 22/07/22 I went to the tip my alternator belt snapped as I pulled into a bay, I can’t thank some of the staff enough for bringing me a cold drink and being understanding and caring whilst I sat for over an hour and half until the recovery truck come to help me I will be paying them a visit with some chocolates and thank you for helping me with my rubbish guys x you don’t get enough credit honestly such nice people my car is safely home awaiting to go to Ford for repair

No need to book like in Suffolk so big plus. Good location for most in town, easy flow of traffic, attendant stands outside at 30mins before closing to stop commercial vans, well organised.

Its a recycling centre/dump! Usually a queue to get in but easy to use. Staff are helpful. From the end of Feb 2022 vans and commercial vehicles need to book. Best avoided at the weekend if you can as it will be busy.

Very professional and polite staff and nice and clean recycling centre. I was unaware of the new van policy that you have to book in advance but they did let me tip and there was almost no waiting time.

Very helpful and courteous staff - even those with the unenviable task of handling access to the site and having to put up with impatient motorists. On my recent visit I must have interacted with at least 6 members of staff. All were extremely helpful and polite - and one even took charge of my clapped out tumble-drier to save me the effort of transporting it to the other end of the site.

Rare experience of driving straight in however they are putting new rules in place about vans and vehicles with a flat bed that you need to book a slot 48 hours in advance with the license plate number... ridiculous as many van drivers hire their vans as I myself did on this occasion and you cannot get confirmation until the day of pick-up or you have to hire a van for 3 days for it... let's face it who can afford to waste money for that purpose. It is just going to encourage more fly tipping in and around Colchester and its bad enough already!

The recycling center is well organised and does a great job offering a way to get rid of home waste. Queuing is often a problem at busy times. The staff do deal with this well. Look at the busy times on google maps and try to avoid the Queue.

If you are lucky and time it just right you can have a quick visit.. otherwise be prepared to queue for ages. Why not change the parking layout so people have to reverse in at an angle to the skips, it would mean so many more cars could fit in. Often spaces at the top end of the facility but people tend to wait for spaces as they enter so queues tend to be longer than necessary. Why not have someone directing traffic?

I would like to thank the staff at the centre for their help and kindness when on my recent visit I lost my hearing aid. They looked everywhere and took my number in case they found it later. Turned out to be wrapped in my face mask which I found when I arrived home.

Always queues . Car routes too narrow to be effective. Most of the Council workers there are helpful apart from one Council worker who loves to come out of an office and say "that will cost you a fine of £35 !" The reason for that is there is a sharp right turn on entry and you dont see the No Parking Zig Zag Zone until you are in it. The council worker would be better employed warning people who are council tax payers of the zone.Most of the Council workers are fine..not this one who seemed to have plenty of time on his hands. Maybe the Council should look into it ?

The people who work here are second to none. They go beyond what you expect to help. I personally lost my purse in a bag of old hangers, and they retrieved it for me when I thought it was gone for good. I think a massive round of applause is due to you all. Thank you Alison Hornsby

A lovely experience at Colchester recycling centre today. I had a fully loaded van and all the staff were extremely helpful with sign posting me to the relevant bins. 5stars!

Site supports recycling of a wide variety of materials and the staff on site are quite helpful with unloading and identifying the correct container to insert the waste. Over the years this site has had a variety of layouts but sadly, like a lot of others, it continue to mix cars and pedestrians in close proximity, plus all the containers can only be reached by climbing rickety metal steps while carrying the materials. NB: Booking system for vans starts in Feb 2022

Good service but it's not always very clear where each category bin is and it is confusing with the unloading parking space numbers that's in front of the big bins. Maybe change it to alphabetical numbering instead.

Visit at peak times (weekend) and queues to the gosbecks roundabout are to be expected. Otherwise a simple get in and dump operation. Staff are helpful when you're not sure which bin to use. Height restrictions for vans.

Excellent facility, but best to go outside of peak times when it can be very busy. Only down side is that the floor can be littered with nails, screws and staples. Considering a punctured tyre can cost £25 or more to repair, it can turn out to be an expensive visit (I did have a tyre punctured). I mentioned this to the management, and to their credit, they are doing better than in the past to keep the area swept free of debris, but it does pay to be careful, drive very slowly and watch where you're going.

I came in today to dispose of 3 bags of non-recyclables. I had to wait as the container was being compacted. I suffer with back pain and the gentleman working there took the bags and placed them in the container. I can't thank him enough.

Really Friendly Staff - nothing was too much trouble, a few pointed me in the right direction with certain items I was unsure about whilst another that I asked a question to was super helpful and even took the item for me. The site has a good layout too with easy to understand signage.

Pretty good and fairly busy every time I go there. Make sure you get there at the correct times and know the route (use your satnav) especially if you are dumping a lot of stuff as you can imagine it's an awful bummer having to bring it all home again !

I’m sorry but I cannot understand the bad reviews for this place. The staff are incredibly friendly and courteous. They helped me carry stuff. They took stuff off me to put it in the right place. I witnessed an incident of a staff member being verbally abused for asking someone to use the correct bin and he was still really polite to the bloke. Can’t compliment the staff enough.

Due to Covid 19 the waiting times are long. unfortunately there is no system to the queuing so people waiting for ages can be pushed back by people who have only just arrived and have right of way at the roundabout.

Very well organised. Coping well with a challenging situation. Better than other equivalent facilities I've used elsewhere.

My husband finds this tip very friendly & helpful most of the time, however he went there today and he mistakenly put a item in the wrong container after being advised by a member of staff, the member of staff was very rude and wouldn’t except a apology that it was human error even though he told my husband to put the item into the next container which is what he done, so really the member of staff was in the wrong and wouldn’t except a apology so my husband what he thought of him, maybe this member of staff needs customer service training.
