It’s a multi-floor shop selling traditional Scottish woven items, Harry Potter merchandise & souvenirs. The store has five floors of retail indulgence with probably the largest consumer range of cashmere, lambswool, wool and silk mixes and other knitwear. I did not buy anything but they seem to have pretty average prices.

Best and probably largest gift shop on the royal mile. You can find pretty much everything here you'll need as far as souvenirs go. They have most of the major clan tartans, too, so custom scarves and blankets are easy to find. I love all of the little books they had about clans and Edinburgh in general.

Huge selection of souvenirs and Scottish items. They have pashminas, scarves, kilts, toys, books, magnets, mugs and etc. Tartan by the meter as also sold here. They also carry official Harry Potter merchandise. You can also take your picture dressing as a Highlander here. They show are the machine used for weaving.

We visited Old Town Edinburgh back in January 2002. We really enjoyed the shops and pubs. The Tartan Weaving Mill was wonderful little shop that serves up the historical legacy of Scotland. Recommend start at the top of the Hill and work your way down through the streets visiting the shops and eateries.

Amazing place. Inside looks like a small typical souvenir shop but when enter the shop and after first room you will soon big room when the shops located on the multi stores. On last level old mill machine are located. Shop has the souvenirs, the old traditional Scot clothes, wool and cashmere products and even something for Harry Potter fans.

I went to this classic tourist's gift shop for some souvenirs. This sho offers a wide range of items but the most surprising factor was the shop assistant, Miriam. She has a great skill understanding your needs and finding the best item to suit your requirements. She speaks lots of languages and she has a very good capacity understanding languages she does not speak fluently. It was a pleasure to get to know you Miriam!

I can't comment on the actual shop as I've never been there but the online experience I have had with Tartan Weaving Mill is absolutely shocking. My first order both items were refunded no explanation given as to why (possibly no stock and just not updated online). Gave the benefit of the doubt and ordered again then second order one item refunded again no explanation given and the item that did arrive was really poorly packaged for what it was so arrived damaged! I emailed and got a response quite quickly asking for pictures of the damage which I sent straight away and now I've had no response at all since. I emailed them 4 times and have had nothing back! Amended post After speaking to a very helpful staff member named Benjamin about my issues I have received both a replacement item and a full refund. Thank you very much for your help and sorting the replacement out quickly.

A lovely store with a wonderful selection at a wide variety of price points. The staff was most helpful and patient. My hat is absolutely brilliant and at a price point that could not be matched. This is a wonderful place to ship especially if you want something truly Scottish not a Chinese import.

Made my online purchase from France and was pleasantly surprised of how good the quality of service was. I bought 12 items: mugs, notebooks, blankets, butterbeers. They utilized and arranged all the products in the cardboard to use the very minimum disposable packaging! I was very impressed that out of the huge cardboard box (not taped, which is a plus, because the cardboard itself is already very smartly designed and needed no scotch tape), the only thing I threw away was a few grams of bubble wrap for 2 glass bottles. Each and every items arrived in pristine condition. Not even a dent on the notebooks :) I recommend Tartan Weaving Mill, online purchased products were smartly packaged and delivered. Everything arrived in pristine condition with minimum trash. 10/10

Wonderful shop for souvenirs. Looks small from the outside but is multi levelled and enormous once you start to explore. Still retains some of the old looms. Probably one of the best places to buy tartan in Edinburgh as they have such a range to choose from. You can easily spend an hour or more here without realising the time is slipping by. Well worth a visit.

Wow!!! Walked in into relatively small gift shop...proceeded further down the hall...looked down...Holly Molly!!! It's a "Gift Shop Mall"!!! Great place to shop. Found some great deals while listening to the Scottish piper tuning the pipe in one of the shops upstairs. It's an experience not just shopping trip. Definitely recommend to stop by.

Anybody visiting the castle and/or just edinburgh in general and is looking for souvenirs needs to come to this shop. They have like 4-5 floors I think and this is your one stop shop. From in shop made tartans to bagpipes, to paintings or kind they have everything. Fair prices and easy to find everything

The best range of Cashmere in Scotland

From the outside it looks like your standard cashmere selling Scottish store. However, as you step inside you realise the shop is actually spread across five floors. Three of which are below ground. On B-1 you will find a Boy Wizard store. A giant store specialising in Harry Potter merchandise. On B-3 you can actually see the tartan cashmere products being crafted using the giant looms.

Very touristy - but you can buy tartan and tweed cloth by the metre at this shop. It's difficult for a visitor to the city to find another shop that has bolts of these fabrics and, believe me, we walked up and down the Royal Mile looking! They sell anything and everything Scottish, big and small, including tours. And if you spend a lot talk to them about the duty-free tax certification, available in store.

Lots of different shops in this mill. You will definitely find whatever Scottish wool item you want. The place sales souvenirs to clothing and even have a small section for swords/weapons. The food cafe on the top floor is also worth while for a meal and a break after Edinburgh Castle. Only down side is it can feel a little crowded and cramped. This is unavoidable from being so close to Edinburgh Castle.

It was actually very cool to see the machinery in action, and four levels of extensive gift shops are probably the best on the Mile when it comes to tartans and clan swag. A docent on hand to explain history and process would have made it even better.

Interesting to visit - but not the best for quality / price. Look into its fascinating history - it used to be the water reservoir for the residents of the Royal Mile. Imagine it filled with water! However, don't miss Ramsay Garden and Lane around the corner and behind the Weaving Mill - see photos. Imagine living there with those views!

This place is HUGE! You'd never know it from looking for the outside. (Translated) Huge shop with an almost endless selection of tourist stuff, Harry Potter stuff, Harris Tweed, jewellery, clothing, much more and an in-house weaving mill. There really is EVERYTHING you can think of in terms of souvenirs. Unfortunately, visits are currently only possible to a very limited extent, as extensive renovation work is taking place. It's supposed to be done by the summer and I hope it'll be done by the festival season.
