Reviews of Stanfords
J. M.
The most wonderful travel bookshop! Plus a small selection of other fiction and non fiction, but travel is what it's all about... From travel writing to guide books and maps, everything you need to either help you get away, or imagine yourself somewhere else while all the borders are closed... (The lines between countries, not the bookshop)
M.
Great bookstore for travel books, guides and other travel accessories. There’s a cute cafe and plenty of tables available for outdoor seating great in times like that when you want to be outdoors but also grab a coffee/tea and sit in a cafe.
A. H.
A must visit if you love travel, or culture. We may not be able to travel at the moment but you can sit and be transported away by the many travel books they stock or maps they sell. You can also buy a bespoke OS map of your house, or a vintage map. They stock maritime maps as well, and OS maps if you're planning a wall in the UK. They sometimes host authors and book signings, they had Michael Palin once which I was lucky enough to attend.
C. O.
Lovely specialist map shop with a small coffee shop too. Lots of various maps and guide books with some excellent gift ideas for both young and old. Currently no lift downstairs so not suitable for wheelchair users. Only just opened in the new location but already busy and welcoming.
M. G.
Such a cute store. Had the journals I was looking for. Little pricy but good quality so worth it!
A. W.
This is such a great shop. Full of beautiful maps and books, as well as gifts. Helpful staff of course too!
J. T.
A lovely bookstore that hides away endless journeys to get lost in. Travel writing is where it specialises and is topped off with a beautiful little cafe.
D. A.
Simply 'the' place for geographers, cartographers and explorers to go. The number of maps from around the world, as well as flags and geographic books, is hard to match.
It's lost a bit of the old charm from it's old site just down the road, but it is a lot easier to get around and less cramped. Quite simply, as geography nerd it is a dangerous place to go as it's hard to leave!
M. B.
If you like maps, this is your place. If you like books, this is your place too. Great overall selection of books, but it has more maps than books.
The coffee shop is cozy; it offers a nice selection of coffee, tea and food; to enjoy while reading your book.
J. K.
The coffee was okay but the staff should care about the cleanliness. The expresso is £ 1,75.
M. B.
My wife said Stanford's made her feel relaxed. We could have spent all day in here browsing.
Going downstairs and discovering all of the maps, globes and travel guides was brilliant. We left with new reading material to help us plan our next holiday.
A. W.
An extraordinary bookstore that sells travel guides, books with themes about travel, maps, and even travel accessories. The selection is beyond compare!
Tip: Sign up for their eNewsletter to get notified of their author events.

I love to come here, have a coffee and some pastries while getting inspired for my next trip. Highly recommended for travels lovers, who get excited with maps and travel books. They offer also talks and presentation, visit the website to know more.
I. K.
As most often got what I wanted (a small Xmas prezzie), a perfect location, a huge stock of maps + friendly and knowledgeable staff.
C. Y.
I can’t believe map company could still survive in today’s digital world! But it’s a good thing! So glad to see there are so many people still come to the brick-and-mortar store to buy paper prints! The atmosphere is pretty nice! Made you would love to explore the world more!
S. M.
T he have flags, maps, bottles, books! Great store
J. B.
Still the best place to browse a wide selection of guide and walking books if, like me, you realise that you are headed out to the Outer Hebrides next week with only the maps packed. Found four superb guides from a range of about ten. Why go anywhere else? Certainly better than taking a chance with Amazon.
D. A.
(Jan 2019) Just the best for Travel books, guides, maps etc. n.b. It's moving to a quieter location about 150 metres away at the moment. In many ways it's a real shame, it's been there for so long. In other ways it'll be great, the new premises are air-conditioned. There's not as much space in the new place so we'll have to see what doesn't make it over. Good luck to them, just a huge range of "stuff" to help you plan and go to anywhere in the world!
M. H.
Maps and travel books galore and a great way to spend an hour or two dreaming of adventure.
D. K.
This is by far my favourite bookshop in London!
It's absolutely heaven for anyone who truly loves to travel (to TRAVEL not to go on holiday).
Here you will find all sorts of books about travelling, from memoirs to fiction set in different countries, to maps and guide books.
You will also find the best presents for that travel addict in your life!
I'm sad that they had to move from the Stanfords building but the bookshop itself did not lose its charm.
The staff is also very kind and helpful if you need any help or suggestions which makes your experience over all even more positive.
G. P.
A truly great place for maps and travel books ! Seasoned travellers need look no further !!!
S. M.
Super map shop, now moved from Long Acre to Mercer Walk, near H&M. Best selection in London for maps, and if they do not have it, they can order, if its available. It is always my first port of call when travelling to a new place to get some serious maps for.
R. L.
Good for all things maps and travel books
G. D.
A cozy place to visit, with a huge choice of maps and globes. If you are close to this shop, you cannot miss it!
G. G.
Excellent bookshop, especially for maps and travel guides. Their collection is vast. Forget Amazon and next day delivery... come here! Situated in Covent Garden, a lovely part if central London.
N. M.
One of the best travel book shops I have ever been to. They have everything! Even worth a visit if you're just popping by. Really friendly staff too.
C. M.
Always a great place for travel books, shame it's so much smaller now
J. B.
The definitive store for maps, travel writing, maritime charts, travel guides, etc.
E. V. C.
Very helpful staff member went to basement and brought back a selection of travel books for me as I couldn't manage the stairs. But disappointed they have moved out of their original premises in nearby Long Acre which were much larger.
K. F.
Huge range of travel books and maps. You could spend hours....
N. Ü.
Really nice bookstore with a maps theme. Globes in the downstairs are so cool. Also nice to grab a coffee and sit at the backside
P. T. N.
Great shop, very big with an up down and your able to buy a coffee X
A. L.
I could be here for all day. This books shop is so interesting near covent garden station. Many grobes are sold here.
L. T. L.
I've loved maps from a young age, so it was almost like a pilgrimage visiting Stanfords. Definitely the largest selection of books and maps dedicated to travel I've seen. Small note, they seem to have recently moved a bit from their former location, but it was easy to find the new spot.
M. T.
l love this shop, it has everything you have ever wanted from a travel shop. Great maps and gifts too
P. F.
One of my favourite book shops. It's moved, which took a bit of time to work out. Well stocked with travel books, particularly my favourite travel fiction. I can't visit this shop without buying something. Excellent for gifts too. Well worth a visit!
E. B.
This is not only one of my favorite bookshops, but one of my favorite places in the whole world. Bookshops already open so many doors to other places via armchair travel, but Stanford's will inspire you to experience living under the Tuscan sun or retracing Shackleton's steps yourself. You can get maps that show you the best walking route through Cambria or the best cycling route through Patagonia. Want to know the exact layout of 1840's London? Stanford's has you covered. They stock absolutely every travel book ever written, whether it's a witty memoir or a gorgeous coffee table tome. (They also have a very nice selection of novels and other non-travel-oriented books.) Plus, the cafe is so cozy, and the owner, Vivian, is so friendly and knowledgeable. She'll share the latest little-known publications and is always happy to chat and make recommendations. This place is an institution for a reason, and it's the only place in London that I absolutely must visit every time I'm there. Cannot recommend highly enough.
M. A.
Nicely designed travel book shop. Note, those with mobility issues might struggle as stairs are steep (there is a lift somewhere however) and aisles are quite narrow.
L. T.
Great shop, always grumpy staff!
I always love this bookshop and it’s my favourite place to go if I have time between meetings (in normal times) and I usually emerge having bought something interesting.
But, goodness, every single time the staff are grumpy, offhand and really give the impression that helping you is the last thing they’d like to be doing. One of the last times I went in before lockdown I asked a staff member to check a price because it was only marked in $ and there was no £ price. He literally rolled his eyes as he went to the till.
Which makes me wonder, how are management treating staff here to make them so miserable?
It would be a tragedy if this place was to go under because of Covid and I sincerely hope it doesn’t but my favourite travel bookshop by far is Daunt’s on Marylebone High Street where staff seem genuinely pleased to help you.
K.
Stanford’s is a great little bookstore specializing in travel! It’s tucked away in a quiet area just off bustling Covent Garden. You can come here to get a moment’s peace by finding inspiration for your next trip! They also sell any travel gadgets that you might need! It’s a great place to get some gifts for people as well! There’s 2 floors and also a cafe in here! I love this place!
a. b.
Simply best place in the world for maps charts travel books. Cartographers heaven. Also has a coffee shop.
A. C. C.
Wonderful specialist travel bookstore. It's great to be able to go and see the maps and guides, and feel them in my hands. They also have lots of travel related stuff, like lamps, games, small gadgets, and even a small cafe. It feels great to get out the door with a couple new guidebooks for my walks.
D. B.
Great little place! Good service in quiet space.
T. A.
Great cafe along a alley near Covent Garden. Great place for Gifts & Puzzles & wrapping paper etc
R. W.
Great book and map shop which has been around for many years. Unfortunately they have had to move from their original premises due to rent increases. Such a shame. Their new shop is still located in Covent Garden. They also do mail order online.
J. R.
A lovely book shop for small and big travellers. They feature maps.from all over the world, including on-demand nautical charts, as well as travel literature and travel gear. Their children section is located next to their coffee shop, so it is a great opportunity to go over the new books with the little ones over a muffin or sandwich or targeting it specifically for an educational lunch break.
J. C. V.
One of my favourite places in all of London, you could very easily spend hours on end here and yet only explore a tiny portion of what they have to offer. Everything is well organised and you’re guaranteed to find something different every time.
L. E.
I love this shop! If you're off somewhere, anywhere in the world you can find a book or a map or something relevant here. It's full of wonderful possibility. I go in here to browse the travel fiction too. They have good sundry items to make your trip more fun or comfortable. I bought some Turkish towels here which are brilliant for wearing as dresses or using as blankets as well as being a towel. Highly recommended.
J. 3. A.
Lovely shop to look around , products lay out nicely staff very helpful
O. P.
Love this bookshop! The whole world in one place 🌍🗺️📚
M. I.
Best map shop in London, a great place to spend an hour or two browsing. New location is smaller than the old store but still has a great range of maps and travel guides along with useful bits of kit.
D. R.
Best map and travel book shop in Europe i've seen. The maps can be bought cheaper in there country of origin, but you cant often find these maps where you are traveling. so you pay a little extra for the convenience. Store recently moved.
M. P.
If you like physical maps this is the No 1 store to maximise map choice in for any part of the world you wish to visit. Checkout their website for further info. (The London store moved from Long Acre in January but is still within easy walking distance. They also serve light refreshments on site. NB If you come to the West Country check out their Bristol store.
D. D.
Place with most unique atmosphere of travel and geography and unbelievably complete set of resources on both subjects. Extremelly helpful staff, perfect location and unique collection has made this a must visit location every year we come to London.
J. J.
This is by far my favourite shop in London. If you are a travel or map geek like myself you will absolutely love it. I like to just go in a browse through the books to get inspiration. The lower floor is the best. Check out the globes !
D. H.
I went in to try and find hiking maps I needed for a trip to Slovenia. They had a variety of publishers, scales and areas covered. Very impressive. Their range of global maps is better than any store I've ever been in.
D. R.
A lovely place to find gifts and anything to satisfy that wanderlust.
They got everything you might need, ranging from basic objects (like mugs, cards, etc.) to local sourced gifts, it is really a place where you can let your mind wander and your wallet despair...
On the price side, it's not that expensive and the quality is here so it's a no brainer when you really need that good stuff after returning from a trip.
J. Z.
One of my favourite shops in London and the UK. It’s unique and independent, with a brother branch in Bristol. Selling a range of Geographical and literature products, it’s staff are friendly and I love the range of maps and globes they have, so many country guides for world travellers split by floor - Britain on ground, Europe on first floor and the other continents of the world basement floor. A must visit for this field/ interest
L. C.
For those of you who don't know it, this is a great travel book shop. I buy lots of maps and travel books there. Plenty of inspiration, in my case, for walking and cycling holidays, for example.
R. R.
It's always great to have a nose around here. More maps than you would ever know what to do with and a huge number of different different travel books. I especially like the the section on London. The coffee shop looks ok but I've never tried it.
H. W.
Love this shop. Inspiration for travel abounds. I challenge anyone to leave this book shop having not added at least one new destination to their bucket list. Also a great spot for gifts and cards.
P. G.
Fab bookshop with any/all books or maps you could need. Was the only place in London I could find which stocked hiking maps for Northern Ireland. Although the new location isn't quite as grand, it still has the same range.
J. B.
Excellent bookshops with maps galore, great coffee too.
A. D.
The iconic Stanfords will soon move to this site. In the meantime there is a pop up xmas shop, i guess to get customers used to the idea. This is a real shame as this new site is out of the way and will not get the passing traffic the over 100 years at Long Acre currently does. It's a new build so I hope will have the atmosphere and cute coffee shop.
D. C.
They moved from their iconic store into a very small space a few blocks away. While the travel book selection is still good, it doesn't have the depth it used to have. I'm not sure it's worth extra effort to go there now.
J. H.
Wonderful place to browse, relaxed and friendly staff
C. H.
One of my all time favourite bookshops. 1) It's so central! Are you bored waiting for a pal? Go looksee here! 2) It's full of maps and travel guides and globes and stuff which are very useful. It's staff are very informed and can show you how to use things/recommend stuff. 3) It's ALSO full of excellent travel literature, fiction and non fiction which is totally inspiring. Complimenting your new holiday plan perfectly. 4) It has a rather nice cafe with good cake, tucked away from the bustling front. Go here now.
M. G.
Absolutely the best and most comprehensive map and travel related shop in the world! Went looking for a map for driving in Costa Rica - there were seven or eight to choose from. Books on birds of Costa Rica, guides to Cost Rica - everything. Great little café, good selection of travel related necessities.
E. N.
Excellent bookstore specialising in travel books and maps, foreign fiction, walking guides, and a plethora of other items designed for outdoor pursuits, for instance compasses. If you want to explore London and the Southeast then this is the place to find more books about this city and region than would be available at Foyles flagship store.
Each level of this store is arranged according to region, and there are maps for most places on this planet. But the greatest range are the OS maps for the countries of the U.K. These are superb. The store also has a lot of novelty items such as tote bags.
J. T.
If you were a traveller or wannabe traveller or even an armchair traveller the maps are probably something you value and Stanford is definitely one of the best map stores in the world. Highly recommended. Also a good source of travel books
C. R.
If you want a map and can't find it here, it doesn't exist!
Coffee shop does a mean white hot-chocolate too!
S. L.
A world class travel store that is any geographer's heaven. Full of OS maps, globes and loads of specialist guides and gifts. Staff are very helpful and happily sorted out a replacement loyalty card for me over the phone and was ready to collect in 30 minutes!
Staff are knowledgeable and very helpful and the cafe on the ground floor is full of wonderful hot drinks and snacks which is a great stopover and a great way to avoid the hustle and bustle of Covent Garden!
D. H.
Fascinating place with lots of books, maps and other gear, mostly aimed at serious travellers , but there is a good section of London-related stuff. No tourist souvenir tat. You could spend quite a while browsing.
T. A. D.
A brilliant place to get lost in one's head. The number of travel books or books related to travel is mind-boggling. The gradual closure of both independent and mega bookstores dotting the globe in recent years have led to an appreciation for niche bookstores such as this one. The bookstore inspires one to dot the atlas with adventures.
S. D.
Classy, well-organised travel bookshop, with a truly amazing selection of guide books t even the world's most remote locations. They also stock tons of maps, from modern light-up globes to unusual old-fashioned ones which make great gifts.
S. K.
This place has a guide and map on every place you'd consider making your destination. Fabulous selection of interest books on the ground floor and love the historic maps on the upper floor... Staff very knowledgeable. Planning a trip is just the excuse I need to head back there!
L. P.
Great selection of maps and books. Would happily visit again.
L. M.
Great bookshop. Small selection of fiction books but what they have are fantastic reads. Mainly focuses on maps and travel books. Great cafe at the back, friendly and helpful staff.
R. H.
Excellent for maps and travel guides for esoteric spots as well as the familiar. I often come here to check out maps of Asian sites that are hard to find in Asia, for instance, bilingual China maps.
Also very good for trekking maps including Patagonia, Tibet/Nepal.
One of the planet's best travel resources.
L. T.
Excellent selection of travel books and maps, aswell as historic maps.
R. F.
Before planning a trip, go to this bookshop and get all you need - from maps to guidebooks, and all sorts of items you might want. Perfect one-stop shop for travelers and holidaymakers, which deserves to be supported from the competition of online retailers.
D. P.
Great shop for map enthusiasts
B. O.
If you love maps this is the place to go. Mentioned by Holmes in The Hound of the Baskervilles it's a good place for a browse and they have more choice than the average bookshop (e.g. larger countries are broken down by states or regions). Decent selection of travel writing too.
A. C.
The, I mean THE, London shop for maps and travel guides. Three floors of travel wonderfulness.
The planning stage of every independent trip I've undertaken in the last 2 decades includeded an hour in Stanfords perusing maps.
Yes, we have GPS and Google maps now, which makes navigation in unknown places so much easier. But for some applications, such as planning and a region-wide view, nothing quite beats a fold-out 1:250,000 paper map.
Latest purchase: Baden-Wurttemburg road & leisure map in 1:200 000 for a trip to the Black Forest via Stuttgart.
D. B. (.
My favourite travel shop of all time - especially the map department. I can always get the best most obscure maps of my destinations from here - so much better to unfold and browse them in person than take a big gamble on the internet.
S. R.
The best place for maps ever! Forget Amazon, forget Google, go and immerse yourself in a map and guide book for every part of the world - its rapidly becoming outdated but lets hope Stanford's survives - after all you can't use signal with s map!
C. v. d. W.
You will get wanderlust as soon as you enter this shop. It has everything from maps to travel journals, and from globes to local London guides. Any traveller looking for any information on any location in the world will find something she or he can use in this shop. (PS I love the fact that it has a map of London as floor covering)
A. C.
What can you say about a shop that been around for many, many years. I've always used Stanfords for buying maps. If it's printed they'll have. Even if it isn't printed they print one for you! Helpful friendly staff.
S. M.
It used to be truly superb and I can't explain exactly what changed but it's a notch down. You can still find maps and guides on every location you'd ever need, but a little spark from the past is missing somehow. Still my go-to for travel needs, but now I don't want to spend hours there dreaming up my next destination.
K. B.
I love this shop: travel books, maps, globes, and more.
C.
Always like to be there, nice staff, simple, tasty food, one problem - they pour so much vinegar as wants to conserve you for centuries!))
Good bookshop where I like to buy cards, books & maps!!! Yes, there are still exist!
J. W.
Well laid out with a huge variety of maps and guide books. It's hard to work out which map to buy online so we always head to Stanfords. If they haven't got what you want they may be able to print it for you.
R. A.
I can spend hours browsing the books in this shop. A must-visit if you're planning on doing any travel as they have books and maps for all over the place.
The staff are also very helpful, willing to order in anything they don't have. They really helped me out whilst planning a trip to Sierra Leone
Y. V.
Awesome books & maps shop! Definitely the place to go if you need a map for your next holiday. They have maps for every country, maritime maps and even old & historical maps!
D. W.
Great selection of travel books. Huge selection maps. Good selection of the latest travel writing. Very extensive selection of travel guides for all over the world. Some travel fiction. Helpful staff.
T. K.
I love a bookshop with a coffee shop inside and this one is small but comfy. Friendly staff, good choice of teas, decent coffee. And surrounded by books. What's not to love?
H. S.
Pretty nice café inside of Stanford's bookshop. I really like the atmosphere there. I would recommend a pot of earl grey tea! It's a lot of tasty tea for a reasonable price. The staff was very friendly.
M. G.
Visited Stanfords shop in London on 23/3/19. A very large selection of travel guides and maps covering all parts of the world. Purchased the Madeira Tour & Trail map (9th edition) published by Discovery Walking Guides Ltd so that we can plan our walking holiday. Purchased to use in conjunction with Madeira Walks: Leisure Trails Volume 1 book .
L. G. B.
Don't miss the marine section downstairs or browse through the beautiful maps hanging on the first floor. The shop keepers seem resigned to their new place in this digital first world but still show their appreciation if you exhibit a bit of enthusiasm for the more esoteric maps they produce.
C. C. O.
Very nice bookstore, especially for people who love to travel. They also have a great selection of journals and notebooks.
A. D.
This place is just a joy. The products are awesome. Maps, geography based literature, geography based games for all ages, actual naval charts. They have something to fulfill all your geographical based needs!
J. a. L.
You walked into the old Stanfords and you felt excited about the visit as if the adventure began at the door. It was like the trip you were thinking about was born in Stanfords, the selection was vast, the maps fabulous and the building iconic. We would spend hours looking at maps and books and coming away with a great selection of goodies. The prices weren't always the cheapest but the shopping experience was worth it. We made day trips to London just to go to Stanfords! Oh how the mighty have fallen, this new location is smaller, off the beaten track and completely and utterly soulless. Gone are the wonderful floors with maps printed on them where you could walk between countries as you perused the store and welcome to grey floor tiles with one almost insulting map of London as a stark reminder of what Stanfords used to be. There's still a reasonable selection of guides, maps and gifts, but it's shopping now, not an experience and an adventure. We loved our old Stanfords and will sorely miss our trips there. Sadly I think it's likely the Internet has done for Stanfords and I for one will miss the Great old Icon of London as I too will now shop online rather than venture to the new modern shadow of the wonderful store it was.
C. B.
Very interesting travel book store. Pretty much everything you could ever want to buy if you're thinking of going abroad and doing some research. Maps available too.
M. B.
Remarkably for a map specialist, Stanfords new address, Mercer Walk is not shown on TfL's local area maps! (it runs between Mercer St and Langley St, off Long Acre).
Not a patch on the old shop, deserted, nearby, but where else does one go for one stop map shopping? Unfortunately given their new cramped premises, there is too much of the 'ye olde gifte shoppe' to the place, and not enough of their specialist stock - in - trade. Couldn't see too many specialist staff when I wanted advice either. Why they abandoned their old building which looks to have been purpose built for them I cannot imagine.
P.
Can’t recommend Stanford’s enough. Very comprehensive selection of maps and travel guides of places you wouldn’t imagine would be covered and an excellent selection of vintage maps too. Staff really go out of their way to be helpful.
L. G.
My favourite bookshop. I love browsing the travel books and dreaming about where I may get to. Whenever I am travelling I always stop here to get the books I may want about my trips.
M. R.
Great bookshop just outside Covent Garden, specialising in travel books, maps, guides - also will print OS maps to order and has selection of fiction... Small coffee bar at the rear of the shop on the ground floor.
F. M.
Love this shop could spend hours in there every time I visit such a great selection of travel guides and country specific books/ novels. Top class.
E. J.
This has to be the best travel book shop in the world. Amazing selection of books, maps, etc. A great place to find a gift, get the necessary books to plan a trip or to just waste a few hours.
M. G.
A great old institution with a twist. Great service. Wonderful choice. Great coffee bar. A Covent Garden gem!
R. D.
I expected this to be a dry little map shop. Instead, it was easily my favorite place for souvenirs during my whole stay in London! Make this store a must visit in your own trip.
S. H.
Stanfords has many updated and current worldwide topographocal maps. They also sell great books and some interesting small camping gadets. Staff are helpful and navigating the store is easy.
J. C.
What a beautiful shop! A Covent Garden institution.
I listened to a Londonist podcast about Stanfords, then decided to pay it a visit. If you have any interest in maps, travel and the world, you should visit the store.
The best service that they offered in my opinion was the custom map-printing service that they arrange upstairs. What a lovely gift to give someone with an affection for a specific part of London town.
J. D.
Lovely shop with big maps on the floor and every travel guidebook you could hope for. Very inspirational for wannabe travelers and lots of gift ideas too.
I. B.
A really pleasant shopping experience. Loads of gift ideas, some very unusual and eye-catching things, would recommend it
C. B.
Great place for maps and books. They have a great range of maps and travel books among others. There is a coffee shop and toilet next to the fabulous children book section
K. Z.
The best Map shop in the world. There probably isn't a map you cant find and if you perchance cant, they''ll order it in for you. What more can you say about the greatest.
R. R.
Lovely shop. I was after OS print outs .very helpful cartographer. Lots of interesting books and geographical gear to us
Very nice cafe.
O. I.
I absolutely adore Stanford's in Covent Garden.
This is a classic bookshop that moves with the times and keeps up.
It has a great children's section and sells good old fashioned globes which we all loved before Google maps came out.
Staff are always pleasent and helpful and it has some great offers on throughout the year. If you love books, stationary or reading - or even just want a coffee from the cafe, then pay Sanford's a visit :)
A. M.
Everything travel based be it books, maps, games, travel diaries and so much more. A great book store to look around and loose yourself for a while or get those little essentials you think you might need.
K. S.
Map mecca in central London. I have bought a globe, a french 200000:1 cycling map, several travel books, and custom printed OS maps. An amateur (or professional) geographer's fantasy. Amazing travel book selection, and due to its central location with lots of tourist traffic, likely to survive and thrive into the future.
R. R.
Great place for planning travel. Thousands of books and maps to buy. They also have many different globes. Three floors. Relocating soon to nearby.
김.
Very interesting bookstore for travellers. There are various kinds of travel items and you can get anything, including guides and maps, even stationery. highly recommended place.
E. C.

Went to get a plan for a transfer deed
They told me where to go (in best possible way) - gave the person the post code and they showed me preview of the plan
Ordered it paid upstairs and they brought the plan to me
They have a smaller shop near their old shop now but still very good service given
They have a small coffee shop in the place and sell a great selection of travel books
Lovely shop and great service at reasonable prices
C. P.
One of the best shops in London. Has maps and guides for most places on Earth.
A. C.
Great shop for maps and books. Plenty of camping gadgets and mosquito repellent.Better than some of the camping shop. Cortado in the coffee shop is a bit lousy but muffin nice

M. B.
Love this bookshop. I am very happy with the section on books on London walks.
I enjoy browsing here when I found myself i this atea of town.
S. R.
Comprehensive shop. The £40 worth of books ordered online never arrived and they refused to take responsibilit so the online service is woeful but the shop itself is a great institution even if they do now sell overpriced faux nautical furniture made, no doubt, by enslaved children in sweatshops in Inida!
A. N. (.
Didn't buy anything but really impressed with the way they decorate the store. And to be honest, downstairs looks like an adventure place, all the globes and maps look fantastic
C.
Maps and travel books. Pretty much any map of any place is purchasable here. If you like cartography, have a look and a coffee and you will find something you will like!

A shop from a previous age - I hope Stanfords can survive indefinitely. A shop for lovers of informative books and travel; it's basically a shrine to optimistic worldliness and adventure. You can almost feel like you could bump into Phileas Fogg.
J. H.

I. G.
Without doubt the world's finest travel and destination related book store in the world. Also has a great value for money coffee shop at the rear of the ground floor.
A. S.
If you're a) thinking of doing any sort of travelling and b) a nerd then Stanfords is a must-visit. This three floor bookshop in Covent Garden is the place to go for practical things like guidebooks, maps, and travelling gadgets but they also have enough pretty stationery and journals to keep paper fetishists happy. Stanfords sell a decent collection of recent novels, so you can pick up your beach reading there too. There's a cafe in the back which I've yet to visit, but it makes the entire ground floor smell like pastry. So I kinda love it already.
S. S.
Need a map? ANY map? If you don’t find it here it probably doesn’t exist! From the mildly curious to the professional cartographer this is THE best map shop in the UK (maybe the world) - super helpful staff, thoughtfully laid out and easy to find (even without a map!)
J. P.
Love the bookshop. - the ability to browse several travel books in one place is really helpful. Cafe is good too!
S. R.
The best place in the UK for maps and travel books. Not yet sure if it will be quite as good in its new, smaller premises, tucked away just off Long Acre.
r. h.
Best map shop in the world. No need to say more except that they also sell books! Small cafe at the rear.
l.
For anyone with wanderlust this is the place for you! Between my maps/books for Canada and Ghana, Afghanistan and Kurdistan, and many others in between, this is the place of dreams.
