I visited this shop today to buy horsefield tortoise. Wide range of pets available. Lots of staff all busy cleaning the different enclosures. Staff were very friendly, and wasn't rushed into making a decision which baby tortoise I wanted. I had telephoned the shop the day before to enquire about the tortoises they had for sale. I was asked to provide proof of my tortoise set up before I would be sold a tortoise, which I personally think was a reasonable and responsible thing to ask. Having done my research and got everything set up before I bought a tortoise it didn't bother me. The tortoise I got is amazing, and has been eating and exploring all day, and isn't frightened at all of having his shell or head stroked. I would recommend anyone to pay this shop a visit. They are responsible sellers, and all their animals looked well cared for . I travelled over an hour to get there, but well worth it

Although this store was a significant drive for me it was certainly worth the trip. I intended to purchase a Pacman frog and they had everything I needed and more! Also the staff are very knowledgeable, Jane helped me with everything I needed and gave some great advise about the care of the amphibian. I have everything set up and it looks great! Wow what a pet shop! Never seen a place where the standards of care are so high! The birds where all in massive spacious cages, not little tiny ones. They stock a huge range of everything for every pet. We came in looking for things for our new axolotl, the guy one the fish counter (I didn’t catch his name) was very knowledgeable and helpful and so friendly. Came away happy with everything that we needed. We even met Hercules the shop tortoise and fed him! Well worth the travelling that we did :)

One of the rare places that sells live animals. It is possible to find varieties of reptiles, birds and fish and the products they need.

Popped in to see which birds they had in stock and their condition as I had some time to waste me. Birds were in good condition, cages were not over crowded and clean. A very established pet shop that I remember buying my black ghost knife fish from about 10 years ago. Still looks like a very good shop were they leave you alone to wander about and look around.

This place is fantastic! The staff are super super helpful and very well educated on all species. We bought Alex the axylotl, the aftercare help I've had has been second to non. The lady who specialises in axolotls is fantastic and I doubt there's anything she doesn't know about them! Absolutely fantastic.

Absolute gem of a place... Sells various things from fish tanks, bird cages and lots of different types of foods for all manor of pets... Speaking of pets... There was puppies... Lizards.. Spiders..birds and even monkeys to be purchased here....marine and tropical fish... It has so many types of animals for sale it would be almost impossible to list here.. If your in the area... You should definitely pop in for look.. You never know what weird and wonderful things you will find here... There is parking at the front of the shop on most days...the staff are fantastic and helpful...Manchesters hidden gem.

This place has been open for years and I’ve been a loyal customer for over 20 years Fish variety use to be good but recently not been so great, fish bough from this place die too soon Staff need to be told by the owner or manager to serve customers instead just helping out, weekend opening hours should be longer. Overall good place just need bit of improvement in some areas, owner is good but employees are letting this place slip .

Visited on Sunday afternoon and couldn't move it was that busy! Birds seemed to be well provided for, lots of space and enrichment toys. The range of fish was good, couldn't comment on the reptiles as it was too crowded to go in that area. Staff seemed friendly. It smelled awful as you walk in, maybe the turtles?

Great place, they have a wide range of equipment the large variety of animals they hold. Always a one of in there, that no other reptile shop has, to the common minor bird to marsupials. Large section of tanks up stairs and equipment to suit. Sections for marine, tropical and cold water, with good variation of fish. Same with the reptiles, amphibians and arachnids. Always on the verge of taking something home, misses has to stop me 🥺 got my paludarium for now keeping me busy, alot of the plants are from this shop, which is another thing i go here for 👌

Couldn't believe how much of a wide range of pets they have...It's like a zoo! Could've easily spent an hour in there looking at everything. Didn't ask the staff but I just hope that the animals especially parrots and tortoise go out for exercise and a change of scenery...lots of pets in a reasonable but not large amount of space. They all seem well cared for though...the staff seem very knowledgeable and the shop was packed full of all your pet needs. Good location, street parking nearby.

Not been here for a few years. After a few pointless trips to "other reptile providers" my wife suggested here. Only 10 miles from us but if I'm honest I wasn't in the mood. Glad I did though, brilliant set up, really safe co-vid etc. Dead friendly and knowledgeable staff. Got exactly what we wanted and even a free box of crickets as the delivery had just arrived. Visited for the first time yesterday, always wanted to come to the shop after following their Facebook page for a while. So we travelled down from Washington ( Tyne and Wear) for a 'look' and ended up leaving with a beautiful red footed tortoise and set up. The staff were so helpful and knowledgeable about their animals. Well worth a visit

Very friendly extremely helpful staff who know what thy are talking about. Went in to buy my first spider and every question I had was answered and I was put at ease. The young lad who dealt with me clearly had a passion for spiders and was more than happy to help me choose a beginner spider for me and tell me about its feeding /housing and care . I didn't feel rushed even though there were others in the store , there was plenty of staff on hand. Really smart shop, clean and all the animals looked happy. Loads of things to check out. Variety of live pets from fish, reptiles, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, turtles,rats, birds and monkeys. Live food, dried food. Lots of staff to ask questions who seem to know most answers. Even have a pirate in a hammock and a ship steering wheel. Lots to see. Worth a visit.

Everytime we have come into the shop, Phil was always there supporting our choices and telling us alot about the reptiles we were interested in. He helped us choose a gecko and also advised us on the best way to choose one. When asking about snakes, he shown us a gorgeous snake which I just couldn't say no to. the staff are lovely but will sell products that shouldn't go with an animal, too small a vivarium for a pair of leopard geckos. if you want to look around you need to find a quiet time to go as its so busy and closed in causes claustrophobia with people who don't even suffer with it.

Been hear a number of times, an bought our beloved cocker Cross King Charles just after crimbo 2017, more like a cocker then anything. Roney I think he's called was great with after care as tinker wouldn't keep her food down an needed to see the vet witch he payed for with the specialist vet he uses for all of his animals. All the animals have water an food when I have been hear. Such a shame for the negative feed back. Tinker is loved by us all an there's only a 6 week age gap between her an my daughter very loving an loyal dog.

I have had a few birds from here over my time, all are exceptional and well cared for. There really is no better pet store for exotic birds in Manchester. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful. I went there to get some turtles since mine died and the shop looked stunning! I got one mississippi map and one hieroglyphic, however I would like to know what age they are since I forgot to ask. The staff are amazing and they gave me all the advice I needed and even gave us a tub of food which my turtles love eating. I would recommed to first time buyers of turtles and definitely would go again.

Great place for a wide range of animal supplies! Lots of staff to help. Good reasonable prices. Only thing I thought was that there was slight over crowding of some of the tanks and enclosures but all animals seemed happy and healthy, I understand this is just temporary till they find their forever home. Hi all just been reading some comments some bad and most good.Ive just purchased an axolotl from here and he seems to be settling in his new home just fine.ive kept tropical and cold water fish most of my life but thought I'd try something different.ive never kept an axolotl before and obviously done my research as with buying any new pet to keep.I was served by a lady called Jane and was very knowledgeable about her stock.

Went to pick up a cornsnake from here recently. The staff were helpful, knowledgeable and customer safety was ensured at all times. They have a good choice of less common animals, reptiles and birds and I was very impressed by the whole experience. Recommended if you want good advice about a certain species. Beware of establishments that will try to rip you off. These guys at Manchester Pet and Aquatics are the real deal.

Went here today to purchase some goldfish. I was served by a chap called Paul. I learnt more about my fish tank in ten minutes with him than I have leant in the last 5 years. I’ve always had problems with my tank and Paul has helped me out massively with his knowledge. I can’t thank Paul enough. I will definitely be back in a month for more cold water fish.

A while ago I purchased my baby bearded dragon from here - after taking him home he didn’t seem to settle and wouldn’t eat for the first week that had me so worried. I rang to ask for advice and the lady who I bought him from gave me great advice and kept in touch to see how he was going. I was blown away by how helpful she was and how genuine she seemed regarding both me and Merlin being ok. I highly recommend this place - will definitely be going back when I want to grow my reptile family!!

Recently purchased a Ball Python from these guys... I was constantly in for a week before hand getting bits for my terra. They spent a good amount of time with me and went through all my questions. On the day I went and picked the snake I wanted they gave me good information and allowed me some time with it. I visited today to buy an aquarium to keep salt water fish. I spoke to a guy called Paul who was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about marine fish and how to keep them. He even set up my tank for me so I didn't have to set it up myself when I got home. On both occasions of me visiting, he was so helpful and I cant thank him enough. I still need to pay a couple of visits as he said he will check my water for me if I bring a sample to make sure its safe for my new fish. I would definatley recommend this place. Thank you x

Such a shame for me to give a 3 star review as in general it's a really nice pet shop and most things seem well looked after. But we called in there first thing to look at the fish and then later on in the afternoon and in the morning noticed quite a lot of dead fish and when we went back there later on in the afternoon they were still there. What we didn't like the most was they had bagged up fish and put them in with the live plants but 2 of the 4 fish in the bags were dead. Just no excuse for it, I realize fish die but it should be dealt with and they shouldn't be left to die in bags.

Very pleasant staff. I bought a female rat. Price was reasonable and the living conditions were fine for all animals. A lot of lies on this page of reviews. All staff were busy cleaning out cages and tending to customers. Pups had plenty of space and all looked very healthy. Don't judge a shop on someone else's opinion. Go in and see for yourself. Lots of negative people on here.

The shop was amazing. Right from the start I was amazed with the range of all the pets and the knowledge of the staff. I'm from Glasgow myself and we came here because it's very difficult to get a shop that sells iguanas but even going in expecting a reptiles pet shop I was still amazed with all the choice. We Visited this pet shop a few days ago, was unsure what to expect. Reading some of the reviews on here made it sound like a bad place but it's absolutely NOT!! They have a huge amount of pets and all look very well looked after, all staff looked busy maintaining the shop too but still had time to tell us information about some of the animals we were interested in. Don't believe everything you read on here, most of its not true, we went in unsure but came out feeling very pleased with what we saw, definitely will be telling friends about here.

I visited this place on Sunday and as soon as I walked in I said 'WOW', it was truly amazing. I am massive lover of animals and what caught my eye was a little ginger cocker spaniel all by himself, i immediately wanted him. I was looking at the dog for a while and a jolly, friendly man came over and opens the kennel so i could stroke the dog and he was telling me about the place and about all the animals. All the staff were kind and very helpful. I had seen bad reviews of this place that they treat the animals disgustingly but i didn't seem to see any animal under any harm or distress. I highly recommend this shop to any pet lovers out there like me. Such a lovely place to go and visit, i will definitely be going back there in the future. :)

Nice place to see what animals they have instore. They have all sorts like Fish, Rodents, Birds, Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Exotic Monkey, Reptiles, Spiders, Turtles and Snakes. If you want to get a wild exotic pet this is the pet store to look at compare to Pets At Home which they don't have much variety compare to Manchester Pets and Aquatics. I love coming to this place just to see what they have inside the store.

Went there 2 months ago looking to buy a cat. Left an hour later with the most gorgeous ginger female kitten, which I was told was quite rare. I was given plenty of space and time to choose, then bond with her. The staff was very helpful and gave me loads of advice on how to feed and look after her. Really helpful staff when it came to picking the right fish for my setup and needs had loads of advice and knowledge of what would go well with my other fish and great advice on how to maintain the setup properly and no pushing of other items which was nice. Great choice of fish and aquariums and accessories as well as a whole range of other animals and products ranging from parrots and budgies too snakes and tortoise. The shop it self has plenty of parking near by and inside is well organised split into different areas for different pets. Would highly recommend and the fish I bought are doing great

My fiancé and I love visiting the store, we can spend hours looking at everything. I see a lot of comments about smell, of course it has a slight smell, animals poo. I also understand that its not very nice to see animals in small cages, but they are following pet shop guidelines, as its only temporary housing, obviously you would not keep them in these size cages in their forever home. I've never purchased an animal from there so I can't comment on their advice. The only problem we've ever had was when we noticed a leopard gecko in a large tank full of gecko's that hadn't shed his eyes properly and was sat in the corner blind, this happens a lot its not a big deal, they just need help sometimes, but just in case it got overlooked with a lot to care for we let a youngish lad in the reptile section know.. his answer- 'nah don't worry that's just the colour of its eyes.' Obviously he wasn't to know that I have a 13 year old gecko at home or that I have worked in pet shops for over 12 years. He seemed to fob me off with a very poor answer because he couldn't be bothered. I went out to the counter and told an older guy with a beard about the gecko, his answer - 'no problem, cotton bud and a bit off warm water ill sort that right out' that was all I wanted! not making a big deal, just letting someone know, the second guy was lovely. Most of the staff seem lovely, and the rabbit that was out and about for people to stroke, started having a tantrum and digging in the shelf knocking off all the reptile decorations, that was hilarious.

I love visiting this pet shop, however haven't actually bought any products or animals as it does seem a little expensive. The atmosphere is lovely and the staff are usually quite friendly and chatty. I especially love the white rabbit that bounces around the shop. Some of the enclosures seem quite small, but I'm assuming the animals get sold quickly and the pens are all to size standards. As well I've read that most of the animals get moved to different pens/hutches at night. It's like a small zoo and is definitely worth a visit!

Every type of animal here, if your looking for it they'll have it. Been coming here since I was a kid, now I take my own kids here and I still get excited on the way. Best pet store ever. They have an epic old massive tortoise by the door. They frequently have puppies, kittens and parrot's out that you can hold. If you ask nicely they will let you hold almost anything. I have had snakes, spiders and even an alligator once. Brilliant amazing shop.

I visited this pet shop yesterday and checked out the vivarium / aquarium timber. Great selection. Spoke to Ronnie briefly and complimented him on his store. I can't see what the bad reviews are rambling on about. Very clean and tidy, professionally run place with knowledgeable staff. Aquaria were spotless with no signs of squalid unkempt conditions - huge variety of livestock. It has been improved even more since I last visited several years ago. I was pleasantly surprised to walk into a lovely open space with large counters either side and what I can only describe as a monster of a tortoise in it's own open space area at the front of the store. No complaints here.

This was a pet shop that I thought from the beginning I wouldn't like especially after hearing about the puppies and kittens that were being sold here. I still do not agree with them being sold in shops and do not believe that any good dog/cat breeder would sell to a shop. However, that being said the shop itself looks amazing. There has clearly been alot of thought and effort going into the design and i do like that the animals are in separate sections. Most of the animals here are very well priced, and its nice to see the staff members interacting with the animals. Good points: -Wide range of animals available -Knowledgeable staff (So it seems in my visits) -Animals seem to be well cared for (Always seems to be food available) -Most enclosures aesthetically pleasing to visitors but also there to make the animals feel safe -Live food here is very cheap to buy and there is always alot in them. (Cheapest place I have seen) Bad points: -Selling puppies and kittens -Some of the animal food seems strange (Green iguana had locusts) -Too many solitary animals together (e.g Bearded Dragons) -Animals in strange places (Pygmy hedgehogs near parrots and this can be very loud) However, it needs to be said that with the things such as me thinking the enclosures are too small they seem to be the right size according to welfare guidelines. And of course there is alot that I would and could do differently as a pet owner that's not possible for shops to do, due to size constraints (Shops) and of course making profit. So it is one of the better shops I have been into and will continue to visit and update this review when needed.

The aftercare service is second to none, had a few queries with my vivarium set up & the staff were more than happy to assist, even AFTER they'd taken the money. I have taken the kids a few times too & they adore it.(Highly recommended weekends / half terms) Especially feeding the humongous tortoise. Prices are more than fair & the service is great but its the overall experience we love. Were usually here over an hour a time & bought everything from live food to rodents. A HIDDEN GEM!!! I visited Manchester Pets earlier this week to buy my son some tropical fish and a tank for Christmas and it is fantastic! I was expecting a run-of-the-mill pet store but this is something else....with it's Carribbean style setting, lots of weird and wonderful birds, animals, fish and reptiles and super friendly staff, it really is an experience for all animal lovers to enjoy. Not only were the staff very friendly (particularly the Manager, Ron) and welcoming, but they were extremely knowledgable of all the animals too, giving me a guided tour and potted history of everything in there. The highlight for me was the resident rabbit and giant tortoise that greet you as you walk in! I will certainly be visiting again soon, but this time I'll take my children with me so they can enjoy the experience too! Every family interested in animals should visit here, you won't be disappointed!!

I phoned this shop to ask if they had any kittens; I spoke to a person called Jack, who informed they had one kitten in the shop, he described the kitten in detail..." a male Tabby, with lovely markings". I called over to the store, and Jack showed me the kitten, I was so pleased...he described the kitten exactly what it looked like... a 'stunning' looking little fella. I left a deposit and collected the kitten the next day. Jack was very helpful, and gave me advice...what food the kitten needed,etc, ( he even provided me with some food, that the kitten was accustomed to, until I got the right 'kitten food. The kitten had also been wormed...and was litter trained!. Everyone who has seen the kitten, thinks he's a beautiful little fella; and I believe this kitten is pricless, I'm sure he's half 'Main coon!'. Well pleased... thankyou!.

DONT LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS!!!! THEY ARE LIES!!!!!! I recently wanted a parrot to keep my nana company and she has always wanted an African Grey Parrot so i started looking around. I came across Manchester Pets And Aquatics so thought id go and have a look as the lovely chap on the phone explained they had a wide range in. The first impressions of the shop was WOW!!!!! its absolutely amazing and you can see just how much love goes into the caring of all animal, reptiles and fish because of how clean everywhere was. There was always someone cleaning and sweeping up. There was fresh water in all cages for the birds and i was even offered a coffee from a nice man called Ronnie (i think). After explaining to this man that i was looking for an African Grey parrot he took it upon his self to explain the different ones he had in. Some were Tame but could be a little noisy and some were hand-reared, beautiful and only babies. I wanted a baby one so i could train it easier for my nana. He told me everything i needed to know and more and when wrote things down for me like the diet that it should be on and gave me some baby-bird food free. . From start to finish, this shop is a 5 star rating for me. I know that there are some bad reviews on here but i promise they are lies! . . Well apart from the fact that it smells like a pet shop. . . its bound to have a smell like that because of the amount of amazing animals they have. . . . and if these people going on lagging the shop off wasn't so dumb they would know that no aerosols can be sprayed near animals or high concentrated liquid because its bad for health of the animal. The shop has a natural pet shop smell. . .that's all. its not bad. i wish there were more shops like this one that give the time, effort and affection for all the animals . . . Well done to all the people at Manchester pets. Keep up the good work and i hoping to see you soon when i come to get food for the parrot.

The place has a great range of animals from puppies to snakes. The staff really do care about the animals but its unfortunate that the cages they are kept in are so small. I recently bought two guinea pigs, one of which died within a month and was actually a girl instead of a boy. (I do believe it was an accident however). I went in again to get a new piggy friend, and there were 3 young members of staff behind the counter, one on their phone. I was upset that my piggy had died but remained polite about it and said I wanted to get a new friend, but I felt like they really didn't care and one of them just looked at their phone the whole time I was talking. There are however a few lovely staff that do work there.

Was curious to see what invertibrates they stocked as I usually go to Urban Jungle but this is also about the same distance from me and I thought it might be worth comparing prices and stock. But oh boy. The website is an abomination. I made the mistake of going on it while wearing headphones. My ears were immediately assaulted by not just bizarre music, but also the screeching chirps of crickets and other animals. Autoplay sounds that changed every page. I had to mute it. My ears are still ringing from the crickets. This is the first time in a while that browsing a website has given me physical pain. And I didn't even learn from it. 4/5 stars, would destroy my eardrums again

Great place to get some advice for buying pets, and you can tell their staff really care about the animals. They’re also got a wide variety of animals and I’ve seen monkeys and micro pigs here before. However, when I asked where the animals came from, they weren’t able to tell me, which as an animal lover is worrying. Also, I’ve noticed some of the smaller animals aren’t housed properly which makes me think the animal’s welfare isn’t their main priority. Shame.

This is a great place to view a wide range of animals. Possibly the largest live stock you can view in Manchester. The staff are friendly and quite knowledgeable. The animals are a bit on the expensive side, but there are a lot of staff so the overheads must be high. I personally would not buy an animal or decor from the shop however. I keep reptiles and I have seen items for sale for vivariums that are dirty. They had some other animals droppings on them which is very worrying! You could potentialy buy something for your pet and it becoming very ill. Unforgivable by my book. Go, have a look, have a chat with the staff but don't spend your money here on reptiles. There are many other places you can goto.

Travelled an hour to get here...The shop was clean and tidy, and it was good to see they no longer have the monkeys in store, but sadly they are available to order :( I went as I am interested in a Macaw, but I was less than impressed with the bird cages, most were suited for the bird size, but again most had no toys in or just a bell not really enough for most birds, especially Macaws, Cockatoos and Amazons! Also the cages were quite dirty, not a day or 2 not cleaned dirty but a week or so dirty! The military macaw had his food bowl on the bottom of the cage and it had poop all over it. I stood in there for over 20 mins, and even though they were quiet and plenty of staff on no-one popped there head in to see if we needed help. It's an ok pet store, but with the amount of staff they have the animal enclosures and fish tanks could have been cleaner.

Large collection of fish, rodents, insects, snakes, birds and some puppies - felt that some of the bigger birds shouldn't be kept in cages and the place was quite smelly but that's not surprising considering the quantity of animals in such a small space.

mmmmm. not the best shop but i would like them to improve a lot. anyway i got a fish and a kitten but the fish die and then the kitten had cancer and i and only had it for a month. but it was a nice shop.
