All animals here are very-well cared for, with appropriate housing, *immaculately* clean enclosures, and a great level of staff knowledge on the intricacies of each animal's care and behaviour. I've loved every time I've been here, and it's a highlight of visiting Plymouth.

The store is always clean and tidy, staff are always friendly. Love the tropical pet section where the staff are really helpful and the have a few resident animals to look at as well as a good selection to buy. I have rats and hamsters so for me they have a good small animal section with by far a large choice of products. Wish there were more choice for dogs and cats but love their new natural treat selection. Can be a bit pricey for regular treats but the occasional it's fine.

Great pet shop with great staff. You can tell they care for their animals. There is 1 downside to this shop and its the lack of fish they get in they always seem to have the same type of stock, never anything very special. In both tropical and even cold water. But apart from that cannot fault them. Got this fella from there and has grown so well thanks to the guy who gave us so much advice.

Open and well laid out store. Large or bulky downstairs along with everyday pet needs like cats, dogs, rabbits etc and upstairs has fish supplies and exotic animal needs like heat lamps, food and other vivarium needs. Pleasent and helpful staff when asked for help too.

Whilst they have a decent selection of animals, supplies and accessories they are squeezed in too tightly. Value for money ok but not great. Sorry to say but I found that the local pet superstore (i won't name them as they won't give advertising contract) better for value/choice/quality. Pity as I like to support smaller enterprises. - my advice to them...50% bigger shop # 100% better experience!

I wasnt so impressed to see their online prices were so different to store prices. Checked an item online and thought id nip in before work as i work a stones throw away, cut out postage. The item i wanted was £3 more in the shop, might as well have bought it online. Ok for buying in a rush/convenient but not good if your a switched on modern shopper

Pet shops are never going to be perfect. Even the very best can leave people with a bad taste in their mouths or unpleasant experiences in dealing with staff who for one reason or the other makes you hopping mad. Aside from the usual standard ethical concerns/arguments of "pets shouldn't even exist/that shouldn't be kept as a pet!" and whatnot, rating a pet shop should be done from the perspective of someone who disagrees with radical vegans or people opposed to exotic pets. So, keeping that in mind, The Ark does it pretty well. Flight cages for their small birds, never overcrowded or dirty spaces for their mammals, fish selection that doesn't include baby clown loaches (THANK GOD!) and staff who are great 90% of the time.
