Great shop a lot to see read some reviews and it seems hit and miss. Well on my experience I found it fine. Spotted a Ragnar axe and they had it in stock had to produce id I’m 36 full beard but guess they are just doing there job. Happy with price and product. Will visit again when in York.

It's a cute shop and the workers were accomodating to my indecisive boyfriend who wanted to have a closer look at the most awkwardly places swords! They allowed us to pay and collect later. The stock is a bit overwhelming as it's like everywhere and there's a mix of real swords, plastic swords and random trinkets but a good place to pop into if you you're interested in buying decorative swords, axes etc

Honestly such an awesome place to visit. Not only did the staff go above and beyond we had a great laugh too. I dropped the odd thing and was therefore the clumsiest person in the store and designated not allowed to touch anything er which was funny. My partner is apparently now engaged to the store clerk who we're still not convinced is over 13 years old And we got shown an awesome picture of the store clerk in a suit of armour which by the way they looked awesome in. While there i purchased an awesome mini excalibur letter opener which was great value for the money and feels like a great quality I fully recommend this store and its clerks to everyone and is a must visit!

A must needed visit when you come to York. It's full of swords and weapons, so if your a collector come here. There are various other media Collectibles to, I purchased some Oxhorn 🍺 mugs. The chap that served us was polite and very informative to.

Great store , isn't very big and many items from website not on display due to display space limitations , however the staff are friendly and helpful and will rummage in their storeroom , wide choice of historic weapons and collectable items from film and TV. They securely package all weapon items for legal reasons and rightly so , but you wouldn't want them wrapping your festive gifts , #hardtoopen .... If you like historic weapons a great place to go , if you don't then possibly less so .

Haven't been to the Armoury in over 5 years but it was great to go back for a bit of nostalgia. Loads of replica weapons and some real. Lots of different collections. The younger guy was very warming and gave a lot of great information. The older guy at the till was a bit rude though swearing in front of customers and shouting at his boss who wasn't even there... didn't remember that 5 years ago.

York Armoury is a fantastic little shop and a place you need to check out if you're ever in York. I was heading to the train station and stumbled upon this place and decided to take a look. The range of different items inside was astounding and overwhelming (in a good way!) Ended up buying a Dallas mask from Payday 2 and the quality of it is great. The price I paid was more than fair and I'm very pleased with my purchase. The staff that handled my purchase were great and super friendly and polite. Made the entire experience enjoyable. Will definitely be checking back in next time I'm in York!

I purchased what was meant to be a genuine hand forged Katana in December 2016 while in York for a break ,which turned out not to be which I found out after some further investigation & the assistance from a friend who is a professional in this area as he has specialised in this area for many, many years restoring genuine Katana's. I then called the store as I had spent a lot of money on this Katana so was most upset. On speaking to Niall the store manager explaining what I had found he was most helpful as he knew what i was talking about & I was right. He sent me a returns label as I stay in Dundee, Scotland & York Armoury covered the cost of sending it back to them. Niall advised me that they had some genuine Minamoto Katana's coming in soon. I have now received my replacement Minamoto today & it is absolutely stunning with wooden carry box & stand which prices wise was more expensive than the one I bought originally. Niall has been so helpful & kept his word & promises & could not have gone more out of his way too resolve the situation so grateful to him love my new Katana so huge thanks Niall

Wonderful place for collectors and geeks alike. Not only was this shop stocked to the brim with quality, reasonably priced weaponry and collectibles, but the lads in store could not have been more helpful, and I feel some other reviews are unfair and don’t reflect the experience. I ended up purchasing two swords and a miniature ‘dagger’. The LOTR sword I liked was on display but not in stock, so the store manager (who was lovely) ordered it straight to our home for us without delay. The items I purchased on the day are great - heavy and sturdy and can easily be unsheathed/handled without fear of damage. The caliber of the steel is also high considering the large sword I purchased only retailed at £45.99 I have read in a few other reviews that the interactions with staff had been negative but I couldn’t disagree more with the comments made. I could understand how they may come across as a little blunt or overeager at first but I would honestly put this down to the absolute passion they have for everything in the store. The knowledge that the staff had was unbelievable; so if you’re a bit of a LOTR/Game of Thrones/Sci-Fi nerd you could easily spend all day in here. Additionally customers who did not initially put on a face mask were asked to due to this being a small independent shop - and a few people reacted very poorly to this maybe explaining some lower ratings. I cannot recommend this place enough. If you’re in the area, absolutely check it out.

Been to this shop a number of times with my partner, mainly to check out the supply of swords and daggers. Couple of times have had to go back later in the day, as the upstairs section was closed due to the number of staff at the time - given the items stocked up there, was more than understandable and we were happy to do. Have come away with a total of 6 swords on our visits, all of really good quality, and the staff are a really good bunch and a pleasure to see. Can’t rate this place high enough!

In short, this place is "a place of dreams" for most little boys... and big boys too". A very helpful and knowledgeable young lad at the shop front. Not sure if he just works there or owns it, but definitely knows his stuff. I've personally always wanted an ornamental sword and he took me through all the options from the fantastically expensive one, including its flaws, the "cheap and nasty" and the sought after types. I went for middle order, genuine Samurai sword with certainly no pressure to buy at all or even one type over another. I'm not going to show said sword on here, although it IS very much legal. Just glad I stumbled over this tiny fronted shop when I did and if course the effirt to trudge back in the rain to make the purchase. (my teenage son actually thinks I'm cool for now, albeit not sure how long for... 🤣). Pride of place in my house, and if I can afford it, will definitely return or see if can purchase remotely.

I want to give the actual item 5 stars but it was advertised and sold as arriving in a beautiful box,ideal for a gift-which it was to be.........unfortunately it turned up in a tattered black box,taped up with gaffer tape on each side about 2 inches wide on each side.When I complained all I received was a curt message saying he was sorry I was not happy,NO other response. Really,is that the sum total of their customer service skills?? This item was bought specifically because it came in a gift box,it is a wedding gift to cut their wedding cake-how embarrassing to present them with a tatty taped up box!

Fantastic place, been shopping here for 15+ years. The lads that work here are a friendly bunch and they know there stuff. once you get past there outgoing personalities. (they like to chat, im fairly antisocial) Prices are fair when you consider the location, anyone who complains need to see what the retail lease value is in that area and they will understand the mark ups. Even so you can spend £5-£5000 in there and always some away with something worth putting on the wall at home.

Every time I visit York this is the first shop I visit. They sell virtually everything to do with armoury and weapons for display purposes only . They also have website where you can order direct to your home . With free delivery over £50.00. Helpful staff to answer any questions about the items they sell . Each item is securely boxed up for transporting home . Well worth a visit .

I visited York this weekend and was very excited to go to York Armoury. I purchased a replica Gimili Axe (£60) from seeing it in the shop. It was boxed, the lad behind the counter made sure all components were in the box (plaque, Axe and fixtures) then he taped it up. I have just got home after a long train ride and opened the box. The handle is in a shocking condition were it joins the axe. I am so gutted I don't even think I can display it in it current state. EDIT : I have emailed York Armoury and had no response. Very disappointing.Edit 2: after multiple emails back and forth York Armoury sorted this.i have amended it to a 4 star. Would have been 5 but the passive aggressive response they gave made me take off a star. All being said I would use them again!

I have never been happier with the service I have received than with York Armoury, they went out of their way to help me out with my kinda specific request of wanting the Sword Art online swords, the two young lads that helped me out were wonderful, and they promised me that the swords I wanted would be coming in, so I popped by every few weeks, and each time I left with something new, they had things I didn't even know I wanted, and when they swords finally came in, I was instantly called and told about them, I made another trip to york and bought the both, they even discounted them some for me for the wait! a brilliant store and I would recommend it to anyone! I have since been buying swords off them through their facebook page, as the lad running it is more than helpful, and willing to go that extra mile to help with service, so as a little tip, order through their facebook page rather than the website for a more personal experience!

Me and my girlfriend went for a trip to York for bit of shopping and a day out and found this gem of a store! We loved the general feel to the place and naming and finding swords and armour we liked, the staff were very helpful and we ended up buying a miniature katana and another miniature sword from the hobbit (thorins sword). Friendly staff open to haggling, especially when i started looking on my phone to compare web prices. got a nice replica Conan sword for my wall at home, not quiet perfect but was ok for the price. Sure the staff are keen to make a sale but i didnt think them pushy just , perhaps cheeky. took them 4days to get me to buy the sword, almost got the Shadowmourne (Axe from World of Warcraft), but that was bit tooo pricey. doubt highly that anything in there would be good for LARP or HEMA. just perhaps as props and wallmounts. very nice to have a browse in.

Replica swords from and film memorabilia from Game of Thrones, WOW, Lord of the Rings and loads more. Who wouldn't want Striders sword or Ned Starks sword on their wall (apart from my wife...). As for the suit of armour, I'd love it. The two gents in the shop were very friendly and my son and I had a good look around coming out with Frodo's sword 'Sting'. Prices were reasonable too!

I visited the shop while in York and ordered a Damascus style longclaw, the book version. My only gripe is it took 6 days longer to arrive than originally quoted, but I was contacted and was kept informed about the situation and the reason for delay. I was told there was no book version longclaws left and if I'd be happy with the TV version plus something free as an apology, I said yes, certainly and what arrived 3 days later was a BOOK version longclaw and book version longclaw dagger! Not gonna lie, I'm over the moon with it. Thank you Jamie, and to the Anime obsessed guy I spoke to that day, you rock dude.

grate hidden gem, the staff are very helpfull and very friendly. they have massive amount of stock and varity. they also have bargin bin for some sword thats need a little restoration for £20, so you dont have to brake bank to get a decrative piece.

Brilliant shop visited today Sunday 30.7.17. Called in with our 2 children and our young German shepard puppy the two gents in the shop invited us all in and made us very welcome. Our dog Zeus was taken in and welcomed by a very friendly young man ( I wish we caught your name ) who asked if he could have pictures of Zeus. All this while we was in an amazing shop full to the brim with amazing swords and other wonderful bits and bobs and not once was we asked if we was buying. What you two gents did not know was our young daughter is autistic and shops and crowds are a difficult place and until Zeus came into her life visiting places was hard you made her welcome and then gifted her a gold crucifix necklace and made her day. She is now wearing it and says the knights gave her a good luck charm and feels safe. All this for stroking our pup Zeus. You both have made our day to York special and for us a memory we will keep forever and all because you took the time to say hello to a small dog. Thankyou so much and we will be visiting you again very soon and again will show you our appreciation for making a small girl happy a little puppy welcome and a family memory. Be proud a little girl thinks of you both as knights #trueheros.

Enthusiastic staff, amazing shop if you are into this kind of thing, they are very knowledgeable and very helpful, this really is a must visit, but if you take your kids in then be a responsible person and supervise them, there is some seriously dangerous stuff in here, let your kids leave with all their body parts still attached.
