Reviews of Edinburgh Waverley
S. G.
Large busy station, seemed clean and uncluttered. No charge for going to the loo and got straight in for once. Large screen telling the train times and various shops inside. One thing we bought a drink as we had a bit of a wait for next train, couldn't find a bin anywhere to get rid of the empties. Think it might be a safety issue ,bombs etc, ended up taking it on the train and got rid of them there. Have to wear masks 😷 in Scotland. We still do anyway so no great issue
H. S.
It’s huge train station so first of all don’t confuse between princess st. & Market St. ….. just keep it simple (princess street is on right & market street is on left. Toliets are so clean & also changing room there ….. some nice restaurants and shopping centre …. It’s a complete mall 😇
P. G.
A railway station... Need your whits about you some people know where they are going... You may need to stop & study... The train we caught was parked behind another.... Could have been very easy to have got on the wrong train
S. n.
A classic railway station as seen in the Avengers movie. With 20 platforms, there are trains heading to all parts of Scotland from here and also down South. This station can get quite busy on the weekdays but there are elevators, lifts and stairs. Due to its unique location it rests between the old and new parts of the city.
T. Z.
Overall good station spacious and clean. But there are not many store, WHS just small one and M&S is closed on the day I went.
I.
A fully ♿ accessible railway station in Edinburgh city center having a very good connectivity for across UK trains. The station has clean toilets with baby changing stations. There are lots of food and drinks shops inside and outside the station to grab a bite before or after your board the train. There are also shops like M&S food which have lots of options for travel snack purposes. There is an accessibility counter available in case you need any assistance.

Edinburgh's main railway station. Has direct routes to almost all of the country and connecting services to everywhere else.
It's quite an attractive building, particularly when the sun shines through the glass roof, but it's not in the class of stations like York.
Has a small selection of shops, pubs and eateries and it can get very busy at peak times.
D. S. (. B.
Had to go and seek info from staff as platform no.for my train had not appeared on departure board and departure time was imminent. Sad to say first class just ain't what it used to be. This is a busy bustling station as are all main stations, where you have to keep your wits about you.
n.
Update: With restrictions easing, the madness resumes and when it's busy, people are like sardines caught in a net. Plan ahead to avoid chaos.
It is a great train station with signs everywhere to follow. They have all the basic amenities from cafes to ticket sales. There some Covid precautions like limiting the number of seats around as well hand sanitisers. A journey from here to London takes around 4:30 to 5:00 hours. Before the pandemic, it was really busy and I reckon it will pick up as the restrictions ease.

Beautiful, clean station with friendly staff. Im always happy to arrive in Edinburgh Waverly :)
C. X.
Nice mid size, but quite busy train station. I had a little trouble understanding the schedules, but gate worker was more than helpful to direct me to the right train.
D. T.
As stations go Edinburgh Waverley is good. Clean and cold. Friendly knowledgeable staff. #scotrail
E. L.
Always the hustle & bustle, Great Architecture in particular, the Waiting Room, plenty of Food & Drinks on offer. There are Friendly Staff on hand too.
P. R.
A train station that has multiple businesses on site and is within easy reach of City Centre buses. Coach Station and City Centre Hotels.
S. K.
Really huge train station with beautiful glass ceilings.
R. C.
Arrived to find my train to Aberdeen cancelled. Enquiry office closed early. No-one around to provide information. No alternative transport available.
S. R.
Amazing Station.Neatness is Top Notch. There is no confusion or doubts regarding where our train would be as there are Boards everywhere dispalying every details of the Rail also there are Info Enquiry centres.Snacks, coffee can also be bought as there is Mcd,Subway,Costa Coffee inside.Lovely & Huge Station.
S. G.
It's a huge railway station. Even on my one visit to Edinburgh I had no issues finding my way around in this station. As stations usually are, this is right in the middle of things and you can find many hotels and restaurants around within walking distance.
The building itself is another story. Looking at it from outside in the day, I had to wonder what it was. It was just the station! It looks more like a palace of a historical building. It looks nice in the photos.
A. S.
Massive but a beautiful train station in the UK. You will pretty much have everything in this station. From brasseries to restaurants, franchise restaurants such as McDonalds , supermarkets and so on. There is a nice food court too. You will find train schedules boards pretty much everywhere in the station. Thanks Waverly station for the beautiful experience. Regards.
T. B.
There has been lots changes over the years. Its a cold station in the winter make sure you dont miss the last train. Apart from that lots good access areas plenty shops and few fastfood joints for snacks, teas, coffee, alsto taxi rank inside the station. easy access to platforms about 4 trains run to glasgow evey hour. best fair to get is after 9 off peak travel. Its good all round station but could go another extra mile make it more welcome.
A. R. S.
An amazing train station. There's a mall inside the station, there's plenty of coffee shops and restaurants , there's a lot of trains arriving and departing throughout the day, the staff us helpful, the station is clean, the Architecture is beautiful, the atmosphere is always lively.
A. J. J.
Here is the wonderful train station that all of platform looks very old but have a gorgeous atmosphere. If you need to get some foods quickly, you can get foods like a coffee and a sandwich in the station.
M. P.
Small, clean, easy, with stuff to do.
It's not a massive station, but that's ok. There is a healthy variety of stuff (food, drink, stores) in/around, and 5 minutes away if you're willing to hoof it. The "stuff" is also not all that bad - the eats and drinks are better than good.
Mind you, odds are you're probably going to show up Just In TIme - this is a small enough place that you can make it through and onto the train with minimal time wasted...
(BTW, clean toilets - it's a good thing)
A. W.
Of the 4 trains I got today 3 were late in departing and then obviously arriving, the penultimate one due to depart at 22.30 they changed train and platform, then carriages departed 25 minutes late, with another train to get slightly unacceptable. Is it just me or is the rail network falling apart?
B. P.
It's a lovely place and the crowd management is first class. There's no congestion at all for such a big and busy station. The aerial view especially at night as you see in this picture is breathtaking and i love it. The set up of the station and it's location at the heart of the city with all the sights around it.
M.
A wonderful Rail transport in Edinburgh.
Well organized transport link, and you can buy the tickets from tickets machines.
Very clean station. But I think there's no free WiFi in here.
K. M.
Nice downtown station. Full service and amenities. Good signage for the first time arrivals. Good video information boards.
D. D.
Very clean station, bill boards easy to read ,signs easy to follow, plenty of staff around to help ,great area as shops are right outside of station,
D. K.
My first ever visit to this place, the train journey was awesome
T. B.
Beautiful and clean surroundings. Easy to find my way around. The staff were in plain sight and willing to help with any enquiry you may have. I had an ace experience getting in yesterday and leaving this morning. Thank you Edinburgh Waverley Station.
i. h.
It was good but very busy we people going on or of trains
M. A.
Bathrooms can be expanded and improved. Hygiene can be improved as well.
P. D.
Great train with 180km speed. Very smooth running. Landscape along the way is really amazing.
S. W.
Excellent station, takes a few times of going to it to learn your way about it but excellent all the same.
R. S.
Busy station. Good selection of shops. Staff friendly enough.
P. D.

Birthday two nights away lovely time
R. M.
Clean functional Station. Staff are friendly and helpful. Recently renovated.
Upside: Wheel chair accessible, food court nearby.
Downside: covered but not insulated- when its freezing outside you feel it.
s. m.
Really helpful staff that actually help and don't just point. Bit cold and the platform layout is a little confusing. Nice range of shops and restaurants in the shopping centre next to the station.
S. L. (.
Destination for caledonian sleeper and other virgin trains from London, this is the heart of Edinburgh with easy walk access to the Royal mile and other attractions. Trams across the entrance can take you to Haymarket and the Edinburgh airport. Buses also conveniently connect to here. Rental car counters conveniently located inside the station. Additional platform work going on, so a bit of inconvenience inside.
P. M.
Platform 7 is in a really weird place. All the works are making it a confusing station at the moment. It has good shops and services to many places. It’s historic nature is clear from the design.
S. G.
Just home from Edinburgh by train, accompanying a lady in a wheelchair.......staff went out of their way to help, very respectful and made our journey so much easier......thank you.
D. C. M.
Always plenty of places to find snacks and drinks. Situated on the bed of a old drained loch so first half mile is almost underground.
V. A.
As a train station it's fine. Very crushed though, very busy.
R. C.
Very well organised train station 🚉 no issue great service for travel around the UK
J. G.
Very big station so can be confusing if you're going for the first time but there is lots of clear signage to hell you navigate. Only one set of 4 toilets for the hole station right now (due to renovation works) so the wait for them can be quite a while but at least they are free
S. V.
It is always nice to have such a large and wonderful station in the city centre for a great tourist destination like Edinburgh. Inexpensive car rental facility. Very good connectivity with cities around.
Good number of eateries and different kinds of shops after there in the premises and alongside the steps. A mall just beside the station. When you are few minutes away from the Princess Street, you don't to worry about almost anything - lots of shopping destinations, food, tram and bus stop, National Gallery, Scott monument and what not.
A. J.
Edinburg waverley is a busy place with lots of tourists with nice parks, ancient architecture and restaurants.
D. H.
Fairly busy and clean, only downside was an aggressive drunk that refused to leave the train when the police asked. So the police let him stay on and he continued to disrupt the train the whole time I was on it.
P. D.
Hard station to negotiate... Platform all over the place, platform numbers hard to find. Leave plenty of time. Confusing mess of a station.
B. G.
Nice, easy access, clean with shops and a pub, nice place, international trains most focus on stations q and 2, while 3-13 mostly are for travel within Scotland, ScotTrain runs services inside of Scotland. Virgin Trains East Coast to / from King Cross is out of station 2.
B.
Great Station. So easy to use and loads of useful facilities.
H. T.
Well located and organised train station, easy to navigate with a good variety of shops, eating etc, short taxi ride to your city hotel if your travelling with suitcases or kids and don’t wish to walk or catch public transportation
T. J.
Beautiful ancient ceiling. Easy to follow signs and everything on time
i. h.
It was good but very busy we people going on or of trains
H. C.
A great city to visit, plenty to see and do, city bus tours available plenty eateries and shops
C. S.
Nice old building combined great facilities, plenty of seating and coffee shops. Also well signposted and clean.

What a great service that me and my friend got 14/10/17, traveling on the train from Glasgow to Edinburgh.
We got assistance to the train at Glasgow Queen Street Station and off the train at Edinburgh Waverley Station.
It was nice to see that the train stations look out for there visually impairment passengers.
Thank you for you support and kindness making us feel veelcome and safe .
I have not been on the train since 2013 as I ended up sight loss the beginning of 2014 but since for the experience I received recently at the train stations, I feel more conference to travel on a train because I knew it will be fine as I'll get an assistance at the station.

Nice station in a great location. Lovely views!

Edinburgh is a city full of character, history and life. A bustling city with beautiful natural spaces, its outer boundaries reaching out to the coast on two sides. With ample well kept public transport options, trams planes, trains and buses. Something for everyone
N. J.
Heart of the city.. most tourist buses start from here.

Beautiful train station
J. “. B.
Very clean station and well prepped for Social Distancing, clear signage for people to follow. Several staff keeping things cleaned. The station gave clear and understandable tannoy announcements. However there was a lack of bins, I had to walk to another platform to dispose of my rubbish. Other than that all good, great station.

Such a lovely station with friendly staff and easily guided station.
D. G.
It's where I go to catch the train. I find its the best place!
N. C.
Edinburgh Waverley is well located for direct access onto Princess Street and easy walking distance to the Royal Mile and other venues such as the castle. There are eateries, ATMs, ticket offices and shops.
C. T.
It was OK. Some escalators not working 😕
A. P.
A very nice place, a must visit on the bucket list.
M. R. L. M.
A busy place,. big noisy and feels like home. Several good shops and food outlets, so you can grab something for the journey
B. M.
I missed my connecting train but a lovely, Scottish woman at the ticket office printed off a replacement ticket for the next one. She made my day.
A. M.
Very busy railway station however its easy to find your way around to the correct platform. Plenty of eating places. 😊
N. J.
Heart of the city.. most tourist buses start from here.
W. S.
No matter how much delay occurred, no matter how long the journey crossed, this is the best place called gateway of soul home town.
S.
A great hub ideally situated in the city centre with easy access for buses and trams going around the wider environments. Usual mob during rush hour but area is a lot improved to older days but prices are what you expect from the business. For tourists its only a short walk to all the tourist attractions and large baggage, bikes etc are all catered for. So far staff have been very helpful and can't fault them for their services.
M. J.
Needed some advice on travelling out of Edinburgh to visit Stirling and North Berwick the staff at the ticket office in Waverley Station were really helpful and pleasant nothing was to much trouble it's a pleasure to leave a positive review.
K. H.
Great station with friendly staff. The station serves as a very useful link to the rest of the country. Buses run right outside the station and there is a tram stop just a little walk away. There is parking facilities at the station however it is a hassle to get into the city centre with a car. I'd suggest parking somewhere further out and getting a tram, bus or train to connect into the station.

Edinburgh Waverley railway station (also known simply as Waverley; Scottish Gaelic: Waverley Dhùn Èideann) is the principal station serving Edinburgh, Scotland. It is the second busiest station in Scotland, after Glasgow Central. It is the northern terminus of the East Coast Main Line, 393 miles 13 chains (632.7 km) from London King's Cross, although some trains operated by London North Eastern Railway continue to other Scottish destinations beyond Edinburgh.
Services to and from Edinburgh Waverley are primarily operated by Abellio ScotRail, including five routes to Glasgow, the Fife Circle, the recently reopened Borders Railway and services to Stirling/Dunblane/Alloa/North Berwick/Dunbar. The station is the terminus of the Edinburgh leg of the West Coast Main Line and East Coast Main Line. served by Avanti West Coast and TransPennine Express. Long distance inter-city trains are operated by CrossCountry to destinations such as Newcastle, York, Leeds, Sheffield, Derby, Birmingham New Street, Bristol Temple Meads, Exeter St Davids and Plymouth.
Waverley station is situated in a steep, narrow valley between the medieval Old Town and the 18th century New Town.
Princes Street, the premier shopping street, runs close to its north side. The valley is bridged by the North Bridge, rebuilt in 1897 as a three-span iron and steel bridge, on huge sandstone piers. This passes high above the station's central section, directly over the central booking hall (which cleverly hides one of the main stone piers within its bulk). Waverley Bridge lies to the west side of the station (though platforms extend below it) and it is this road which, by means of ramps, formerly afforded vehicular access to the station and still provides two of the six pedestrian entrances to the station. The valley to the west, formerly the site of the Nor Loch, is the public parkland of Princes Street Gardens.
As at other large railway stations of the Victorian and Edwardian eras, the railway company constructed a grand station hotel beside their station. The North British Hotel, adjacent to the station at the corner between Princes Street and North Bridge (on the site of the coachworks) opened in 1902. In 1983 British Rail sold it to the Forte hotel group. In 1988 Forte closed the hotel for a year to extensively remodel and update what had become something of a faded jewel. When it reopened it was rechristened The New Balmoral Hotel, maintaining the "NB" initials in what has proved to be an astute marketing move, despite the hotel being 115 miles (185 km) from Balmoral Castle. Subsequently, "New" was dropped from the name. The hotel enjoys commanding views over central Edinburgh and is one of the most luxurious (and expensive) hotels in the UK. There is no longer a direct entrance from the station.
Waverley Mall is a shopping centre which occupies the space between Waverley Station, Waverley Bridge, Princes Street and the Balmoral hotel. It was formerly known as Waverley Market, Waverley Shopping Centre, and Princes Mall, and opened in 1985. The mall has benefited from the installation of escalators on the Waverley Steps to Princes Street in 2011. From 1844-1938 the site was home to a fruit and vegetable market, which got an iron roof in the 1870s.

This is a really nice train station. It was very clean, plenty of security around. lots of signage to make it easy to figure out where you were going, lots of monitor displaying train timetables. Overall this station takes away a lot of the stresses of traveling.
A. G.
The station is always clean, it's both modern and historic, the staff are very helpful, but my biggest gripe is that even as someone who travels a lot, the station is very confusing if you don't know it and you have a transfer; the signage isn't the easiest to follow.
L. H.
Really nice station, relatively easy to navigate with the new improvements, have to say I was very confused when platform 20 was the same platform as platform 1 😁😁😁??? Only thing I can say is some of the staff aren't always the most pleasant, don't get me wrong there are some great staff but it's a shame that some ruin it a bit.
The station has full disabled access with lifts from every platform to the main footbridge and up to street level.
K. W.
Cafe Royale, great vibe, great food and great staff
R. M.
This train station manages to be both functional and architecturally beautiful,, worthy of a capital city. It is spacious, easily accessible, well signposted and there are plenty of places to eat and shop while you're waiting. There are elevators and escalators to / from the street level, making is very accessible for those in wheelchairs or carrying heavy luggage. The departures board is clear and the trains were punctual to the minute.
B. F.
Second busiest station in Scotland with constant growth in passenger numbers. Many services now electric making it much more pleasant with fewer exhaust emissions.
Reasonable retail offer and linked by escalator to the adjacent Waverley Mall.
J. S.
Good covid protocols in place and people actively encouraged to wear face coverings AND wear them properly 👍👌 thank you
G. M.
Iconic buildings everywhere and amazing eateries
L. S.
It's a train station. It has what you'd expect in a train station. 30p to use the toilet, spaces to sit, places to eat and shop.
N. R.
Very efficient, clean, and friendly train station... we rode in from London and had a great experience. The station itself is rather easy to navigate, obtaining a ticket is hassle-free... there are many entrance/exit points depending on where you need to go.
R. H.
Vast station, good facilities, plenty of lifts and escalators for getting around!
B. H.
After the renovations quite a good station, but extremely busy and finding the right staircase off the walkway can be stressful. Bring extra time to find your train, if you are new to the city.
F. a. F.
I love Waverley station! It really has everything. I really enjoy having this as my station for arrival or departure. When you arrive at Waverley you will find yourself in the city center. Walk up the hill and you will be in old town. Walk towards princess street and you are in new town. Within the station you will find tons of great little stores and boutiques. You can stop in to a shop and buy sandwiches for your trip which helps minimize cost. I love being at Waverley. **very LGBTQ friendly**
K. d. c.
Very busy station. But directions are clear, when you get out of the station you already in central parks. Near castle and museums.
J. Z.
The station is lovely and easily accessible. Just a pity that we had to pay 30p for the washroom.
Nearest toilet would be MacDonald’s right across the street. You’ll have to key in the pin 1409 in order to access it on the third floor!
K. A.
Good location but lacks facilities for commuters. Lack of seats, coffee shops st for the amount of passengers at rush hour. Needs to copy Glasgow Central which is a much better (and warmer) station. Staff are helpful here and the toilets are clean.
D. L.
Nice station, non-intrusive announcements which is nice for a change. Easy to navigate, good range of shops and food/drink options available. Lack of seating and bins is disappointing.
G. W.
Great and historic central Edinburgh rail station that trains travelling all over the United Kingdom arrive and depart at. Also has plenty of places to buy food and supplies.
M. S.
Nice website for the timetables and platform information, and at least there is good seating in the main areas. Shame the toilets cost 30p to use, no wonder I saw someone weeing in a shop doorway. Surely the toilets could be subsidised by all the shops and businesses that are based around the station?
B. R.
A historic landmark sunken into the middle of the city. With some shops and services in and around the station, the tight elevated walkways and mildly confusing signage for some platforms make navigation more stressful than it would need to otherwise be.
F. P.
I bought train tickets abroad, and I didn't have any problem in validating them and finding all the platforms I needed due to the friendly and helpful staff.
J. B.
Proper station with lots of shops. Waverley Mall. Food, eat, traveling all together
M. A.
Very nice clean station. Plenty of places to sit and also plenty of places to get food and drink from. This is an easy accessible train station as it has plenty of exits and entrances into the building. This also includes a lot of shops in the station aswell so your not spoilt for choice.
R. H. M.
beautiful building, clean, and warm staff
G. C.
It's a very nice place to go and see.
F. M.
I love this station. I currently live in Edinburgh but I have to commute all over Scotland for my work. The station is reasonably close by to where I live and offers a lot of great train routes and good services as well. The station is very well maintained and looked after.
F. W.
Immaculate glass train station, when the sun is out a nice tall pint is worth combining the wait until its time to get up and make your way to your next destination, the food and drink is as always like the trains on time with fantastic service throughout the facilities, the key workers there have nothing but respect with a positive attitude in accommodating your needs, lovely n warm.
k. g.
temporary toilets in the station! make sure to allow yourself enough time to pop to the loo (as your train might be on the opposite side of the station to where the loos are!)
n. h.
Very busy and long queues for the temporary toilets and when I did get in, the toilet I was directed to was blocked, I had previously tried the toilets I'm the Mall but the card reader wasn't working and I didn't have the correct change so was unable to use them
K. G.
A modern hub for tourists and commuters alike. Shame the whole rail experience is blunted by high prices... even before you make it into your carriage. Lost one star for not having toileting facilities on the forecourt. Family members shouldn't need a ticket to go to the toilet, when they just want to wave someone goodbye.
W. R.
I recommend a visit to this historic building.
O. K.
The main train station in Edinburgh, lots of platforms, all the food places are overpriced if you aren’t in a hurry pop outside the station for a bite.
There is a wee shopping mall attached, although it has seen better days.
A quick walk up to the royal mile, although there is a murderous hill to walk up, you can go out the opposite exit and walk round to get to the royal mile by way of a bridge which will leave you a lot less out of breath.
A. K.
The station was continuously clean and plenty of staff around to assist customers should the need it. Plenty of food ans drink outlets available. I was surprised on how many platforms there are.

Railway stations work best when they have good food, easy access to the platforms, and sit at the hub of a wide network of trains. Waverley meets all of these criteria, and couples them with a typically impressive Victorian building. Once the renovations - which seem to have been going on for years - are completed, it will settle into its old elegance. It is a station worthy of the capital city.
L. P.
Very nice station to travel too and through how ever I feel there's a lack of seats within it though they are plenty of shops and food places you can go within the station so it's not all bad. Staff are very helpful just like the majority of ScotRail Staff.
f. n.
The station is wheelchair friendly, and not too crowded. The officers are very helpful, and one of them assisting me until the coach, as I have 2 kids and 2 luggages with me. God Bless them!
C. G.
Very helpful staff who reserved my train exactly as I wished. The building is a huge improvement on how it was a few years ago.
T. A.
Amazingly big station. It can be confusing as it connects with many roads and is very large and busy. Food galore and a mall as well. Found seating to be on the short side but I did not traverse the whole of the station.
D. S.
Amazing connection between different cities. The place is always crowded but it gives off the feeling that it is alive. Can get anoying when trains are late but the train station is amazing and it under a roof. For the Scottish weather seems essential to have one.
I. F.
Large railway station nestled between the main streets of Edinburgh. Lots of platforms with connections going all over Scotland and out into England. Self-service ticket machine kept displaying errors which resulted in having to use the traditional ticket offices adjacent.
C. M.
Interesting architecture & good facilities.
I. F.
Very clean station, excellent social distancing, all food and drink outlets abiding by the rules and all passengers wearing face coverings. Good experience all round
S. M.
Well organised, plenty of clear signage and socially distanced seating well marked. Shame the human race ignore the signs
J. T.
5 star station. Has platforms AND trains. I'm from the West Midlands originally and they have platforms there, but never any trains. The electronic board thingies says they're just late, but they never show up. You can imagine my surprise when I came to Waverley and all the trains were on time. Unbelievable.
E. A.
My mother and I travelled from Darlington to Edinburgh on the 10th November and returned on 21st November. The service we received was fantastic . We had wheelchair service for my mother and help with our cases on and off the train. I am very grateful to all the staff who helped us and want to award 5stars to you all at Edinburgh and Darlington.
E. S.
Five stars to Peter on the information desk in the concourse of the station. His knowledge was amazing. Without looking at a timetable he knew exactly what train we should catch from Edinburgh to Perth. His assistance was very welcome and his manner friendly and reassuring.
P. G.
Big but very managable rail station. Had bought railtickets through internet and it was super easy to retrieve actual tickets from the ticketing machines. Lots of friendly staff around to help you to find your correct train. But also clear signage everywhere. A good place to start a journey.
J. M.
It was late at night and also because of social distancing, very quiet.
It was spooky Harry Potter style.
Never seen it so clean and tidy.
K. A.
Station has been around for many years but is kept in a lovely condition. If you go to the seating area near Burger King, be sure to look up at the roof. This station is the best train station to get off at if you're going on a shopping trip in Edinburgh or looking to visit the Royal Mile / Edinburgh Castle. Lots of areas to sit, large toilet facilities and several eating areas available, with more nearby in the Princes Mall.
S. R.
Train links to most destinations in the UK. The fact that taxis can get into the station is very useful when with baggage. Now that the work is finally starting to get finished the station looks really good, especially the new roof!
C. M.
Very nice place.Good for travel all over United Kingdom, with regular trains to Glasgow,London,Perth,Aberdeen,Inverness and most of the biggest city in the UK.There is nice restaurants, bar's,coffee shops, supermarket and mall shopping centre. There is also very central with good transport links such buses and tram.
S. L.
Always a great place to visit. Some of the tourist attractions are starting to reopen after the pandemic, best to check in advance to avoid disappointment.
S. B.
This station is a bit of a maze, with many different exits to different parts of town - handy once you get to know them but a bit confusing the first time you visit. Generally well sign posted and plenty of places to get food and drink.
W. S.
Great service especially with LNR customers service buying advanced tickets! Had a wonderful lady called karlyn brydon who helped me with a situation involving my elderly mother and sister with disabilities .she was absolutely amazing and understanding. Everyone in Edinburgh whavely station were so helpful and polite. Thank you for making our journey home comfortable!
T. L.
A lovely railway station, nearly as beautiful as Glasgow, and with great amenities. Timely trains and casual railside dining. A good place to visit on your travels.
S. C.
The only station named after a book apparently! I've been to Waverely so many times over the years that I know it well, but possibly to the tourist it could appear a bit confusing with its many entrances/exits, but I think it is reasonably well sign posted - maybe just allow a bit of extra time as some platforms are a bit further away! The concourse area always feels pretty crowded, if you want a seat better to head for the area outside the ticket office. There are a good number of shops, including a WH Smith, Boots, Cafe Nero, and M&S food to pick up the things you might need for a journey. There's also a pub if you need to kill time while waiting for someone/a train.
D. C.
Have your wits about you and make time to find your platform as they are not nearly ordered 1 to 20! All staff we asked were extremely nice and helpful. Just don't arrive too close to your departure time.
G. L.
The station is ok I found it a bit complicated to understand and a bit dreary. I think the station could be simplified and brightened up.
Z. P.
Given its recent refurbishment Edinburgh Waverley Station could have been so much better... although the new glass roof lets in more light (and gives tourists their first glimpse of the city beyond the station), it feels cold and not the most welcoming. Shop-wise, the M&S is useful for grabbing some bites to eat before you travel but other than that you'll find chains (or high-priced newsagents). If you have a delayed train, you might be better coming out of the station and going to a nearby cafe instead.
D.
A wonderful train station! Along with its Scottish look, very helpful staff. I'm an American that is always used to poor treatment in big city train stations in the USA especially in New York City. However in Edinburgh Waverley Station, there was this one woman who really went out of her way to help me claim my advanced tickets back to Kings Cross Station in London. She spoke to her assistant and found out there was a printing problem that day. But she helped me claim my tickets even though the machine wouldn't print mine out. Very fortunate to have her there helping me.
S. W.
I would like to thank the staff at Waverley Edinburgh who helped my husband with wheelchairs when we passed though Edinburgh on our stay in Scotland.. It made our holiday very enjoyable with no worries about boarding on and off trains.
Thankyou Waverley.
R. S.
Clean and all staff observing covid restrictions. Helpful staff and great views of the city and trains!
P. M.
Good spacing, most people wearing masks, not too crowded.
B. D.
Great experience with fantastic views
D. S.
Under renovation so somewhat chaotic and very busy. Signage could be clearer / better, especially exits.
W. I.
A pleasant clean station, not necessarily the easiest to navigate but staff all friendly and helpful. Plenty of places to pic k up supplies for long journeys.
D. S.
I like this station though I avoid the toilets unless absolutely necessary because they cost and there is always a massive queue for the ladies. Other shops and stuff ok. Staff are always very helpful
C. V.
When Flybe went into liquidation I was booked on a flight to London to connect to Singapore Airlines. I was all booked through Expedia. After many calls to Expedia I gave up as there were not helping. In desperation I went into Edinburgh Waverley where this wonderful young woman Kate put me at ease and organised a Caledonian night sleeper to Euston and went up and beyond her duties to help. She mapped out where to go when I arrived how to get to Heathrow. All this for no cost. It was free as the railways were taking Flybe customers that were stranded.
Kate is a credit to Edinburgh Waverley with her efficiency, knowledge and kindness.
A big thank you to Kate.
Catherine Volpe
B. V.
Massive station, busiest in Glasgow and 2nd busiest in Scotland. On the East Coast Mainline, you can visit many stations towards London and around Scotland from Edinburgh Waverley
C.
always a great trip when going to edinburgh and the train station is always clean and the staff are always friendly and if you need help they have no problem in helping out.
a. w.
My Favourite Train Station in Scottland , it has got everything you need . Trains , Shops & a great bar The Beer House & not to forget Scotrail fantastic staff.
B. S. A.
Great station you have trains to any place, i recomend the Caledonian Sleeper train to save money from london to Edinburgh, if you book a bert is cheaper than buy a train ticket and find a hotel, you can take it in Euston station in London at 23:00 and arrive fresh in the morning to Edinburgh at 7:30.
O. S.
A train station at princes street. Intercity trains operate from here. Helpful staff!
G. C.
Scotland biggest and best connected station. Lots of shops and places to eat. Plenty of parking and trains going all over Britain.
A. P.
Nkce well maintained station with a lot of food options on the station itself. The platform location was a bit confusing as I reached at the very last minute to catch the train.
S. S.
Quality train station with really helpful informative staff who don't just know about train times etc know about buses in local area
C. A.
Well organised transport links but can be very busy and recommend to order tickets online prior to travelling. Right in the heart of the city which makes it great for getting into and out of the city easily
C. M.
This is such a nice looking train station! You can get to any where in the UK from here. Lots of places to get food and drink! Also there is a WHSmith's there if you need anything else.
Ciaran :)
J. M.
Very organised station
A. W.
The first class lounge is stupidly difficult to find. Unsign-posted and tucked away. It’s a labyrinthine world of up and down with signs for everything else imaginable in all directions (left, down, diagonal, drink me), and it felt like seeking out the Mat Hatter with his single coffee machine and desultory little two-packs of shortbread. Extraordinary array of tartan soft furnishings if you do happen to stumble down the right rabbit hole to the lounge. The wallpaper is a particular delight. And extraordinarily peaceful as only seven people have ever located it.
a. j.
Great place big railway station to operate trains for multiple locations e.g. Newcastle, York, Durham, Darlington, I was on the way to Edinburgh to Darlington Route. You may check for more.
A. S.
With its origins dating from 1846, Waverly in its current location dates from 1868. The station has been undergoing upgrade and extension in stages since 2006. The latest upgrades include new additional platforms to support the East Coast Intercity and Edinburgh to Glasgow improvements. With a good range of food shops, auto ticket machines and multi access points, its a 21st century station which has retained its Victorian identity.
m. k.
Was passing through on way to loughborough
C. M.
Old, dirty and poorly laid out. I'm Scottish and I should at least give it the benefit of the doubt. They spent millions renovating it but they have only succeeded in fixing the millions of smashed glass windows on the ceiling. They should have knocked it down and started again. Try and avoid the (very few) restaurants and pubs inside, they will rip you off. Great pubs out the south entrance and up the stairs.
I.
Great food court, clean toilets, friendly staff and plenty of seating in the waiting area.
A. A.
Excellent coverage. Most days the timing is accurate. On two occasions, many trains have been cancelled due to signalling problems.
C. G.
A good station, clean and spacious, lots of time boards and staff to help out. The platforms are laid out a bit strangely but otherwise, a good station.
M. M.
I am so impressed with Edinburgh Waverley train station staff. I would particularly like to thank Patricia, Tom and Paul.
This weekend I had planned on visiting my friend in London. I had booked the 7.04am train from Eskbank this morning -> 8.00am Edinburgh Waverley -> London Kings Cross.
To my dismay, when I arrived at Waverley train station I realised I had left my purse on the train with my money, cards and ID. Naturally I burst out crying and thought my weekend was spoiled and I would have to cancel my trip.
Until I approached Patricia, one of the staff at Edinburgh Waverley, she was so comforting, and reassured me that she would get the purse back and speak to someone to reschedule my train. The train from Eskbank was heading towards Glenrothes so she phoned the guard on the train to find my purse and bring it back to Edinburgh Waverley. She then spoke to Paul to make him aware of the situation so that I could arrange for a later train until I got my purse back.
To my delight, Tom, the guard on the train, managed to find my purse and return for 10am. I then spoke to Paul who was happy to rearrange my train time for 10.30am for no extra cost due to the unforeseen circumstances that occurred that morning.
With my weekend possibly being spoiled, instead, it put my faith in humanity and made me realise that there are some great people out there! The staff at Edinburgh Waverley train station really went above and beyond this morning and for that, I am forever greatful, I really appreciate all your help!
Thanks,
Maria

It's a wonderful RAILWAY station. The correct UK terminology for such a building is RAILWAY station. We are not yet part of the USA so need to adopt their terminology. After all who in the UK puts their gas into their cars!
W. A. M.
Great train station. Excellent facilities, good signage, nicely managed ticket turnstiles. Bright and airy and clean.
p. k.
Very convenience station and large also. There has fast food restaurant and some other store, like Mark and Spenser , boots...
L. T.
It's a train station, it does the job
O. H. Ç.
It is really like an airport.. Keep eye on the screens, and if you have any connected trains make sure they are not cancelled. Because it happens. 🤨
M. B.
Arrived here from London ( by train) to spend parts of our vacation. Loved the ambience of the station and facilities including adjacent restaurants etc.
S. R.
Beautiful place. The platform lay outs might be a little bit difficult to understand. Just follow the signboards and electronic boards to guide you. Helpful lads too.
M. D.
Nice station. Friendly staff. Really needs some charging points!!
G. R.
Current restrictions mean the free toilet facilities are queued for - one queue for all with chicanes when I was there
m. w.
Plenty of seats, so was comfortable waiting for the train.
M. R.
Used few time during travel. Very big. A lot of food and coffee shops. You may get lost if not sure were you going. One exit is towards princess street.
A. S.
Great to see the Scots guardsmen in full steam
G. M.
There is a market right outside the railway station.
J. D.
Edinburgh waverly is certainly the busy station. Signage is good and staff are happy and friendly. They helped me with navigating my way back home!
w. t.
Beautiful atmosphere at this station as beautiful Edinburgh is. Clean & tidy, nice customer service, a big waiting area, free w/c, cafes, bars, lockers for ur luggage, shopping mall, car rental etc etc. All is that u can get whatever u need in this station. Its old building but with modern facilities. I don’t like diesel smell but make me feel to enjoy the history of old times traveling.
M. C.
Met my boyfriend here for the first time, all in all a very good experience. 10/10
E. w. t. J.
A good little station in the middle if old Edinburgh and New Edinburgh
D. G.
Was only a quick stop in between trains so did not get to see much, but what I did see was lovely
L. B.
Very good, but they keep you hanging about until the last minute to announce which platform some trains are leaving from, then it's like a mass stampede
I. K.
Lots of work going on to extend platforms but revised walking routes are well signed and the hoardings have been nicely decorated.
S. P.
Easy to navigate. Clean. Safe. Staff everywhere to help. Lots of shops and places to eat before travel. Close to the city centre.
D. L.
Really nice station nice bars and food court too, not overly good at service sometimes but staff do go the extra mile usually.
M. H.
Waverley itsself is a great station. Virgin customer setvice however are dreadful. The pub is nice and functional. Toilets are 30p amd clean.
W. A.
Its located in the central of the city, has great accessibility, disability friendly, and this station is very big
A. K.
Great to be back especially staying at the Waverley Hotel and having a meal and a pint at the Guildford Arms.
S. H.
Staff are friendly and announcements are frequent. Retain your ticket for inspection if you arrive on Scot Rail.
F.
Its huge conected to a shopping center which is convenient and has like a mini shopping center in the station has lots of trains at nearly all times and is such a great station
M. M.
Views from the Christmas Market are beautiful
U. K.
Nice train station.. everything is clear.. accessible..and most important trains on time.
F. R.
Very busy station at times.Good service and staff there to answer any questions.Coffee shops, cash machines, ticket machines all there for you
I. S.
I arrived at Waverly station on Saturday just after 12 and I was on my way to find out how to get to Princes Street. I missed my footing at a kerb and down I went, I am an oap and I was on my own. A lovely couple came to my to my rescue. One of of you wonderful staff her name is MAIRI MAC DONALD, and what a credit she was to your company . If you have some kind of reward scheme that her name can be put forward to it would be so greatful.
Yours sincerely Isobel Stevenson a very humble pensioner thank you x
F. B.
Amazing place, got everything you need
J. T. t.
cant fault the station very helpful staff took good care of me and my son who has autism big pats on back's all round to scotrail
G. W.
Main railway hub in Edinburgh. Can depart from here for all destinations in Britain. Food courts, clear signage.
A. M.
Very well laid out, easy to get to each platform, shopping and eating areas are very easy to get to and have a multitude of options.
G. A.
Very busy train station and it can take a little while to get in during peak times due to choke point entrances. Plenty of shops though.
M. C.
The platform numbering system is a unique feature and of interest to mathematicins and passengers alike.
A. H.
The vibe of Edinburgh Waverley is great. With a mix of the tradional station and contemporary it a great place for travelling connections in Scotland. Plenty of places to eat and drink and well signed for travellers too. Love it.
S. B.
Now the second station of Edinburgh since Haymarket improved. Waverly is like Heathrow, a pain to get in and out of and due to size it makes it worse. I prefer to stay on longer and get off at Haymarket as it is quicker.
i. c.
Impressive station complex, but an average supply of retailers do not show it favourably, and the distance between platforms, and the different routes, is regularly confusing
E. F.
As train stations go Edinburgh Waverley is slightly better than average. Few shops to get items for the train as well as a pub for a quick pre train drink.
S. S.
Really big station, not much in the way of bars and places to eat, but it is right in the middle of the city so if you have time you can nip out to get something.
A. L.
It's changed a bit since I last been here. Still felt a bit cramped and the layout was still a bit odd. At least now, most of the platforms are covered and there are a lot more shops around for that last minute bite.
R. S.
Large busy station. Eating and drinking outlets but otherwise cold in winter. Plenty of seating. Toilets free.
J. N.
Edingbugh city has everything a visitor wants shopping, dining, culture or history. This city special it has it all.
J. S.
The only disappointing thing about this train station is that there is no plaque or marking on the wall to indicate the exact location Chris Evans stood at during Avengers: Infinity War. It would be nice to know or at least have an acknowledgement of it.
L. P.
One of the best train stations in UK in my opinion. Thanks to the glass roof you can see Edinburgh from down there.
E. B.
Very pleasant travel to Glasgow. Self tickets machine, stewards if needed. All good.
J. S.
Very simple and effective station.
J. H.
Busy but clean

Great train station but not much in the way of protection from the cold.
T. R.
Train station. Especially liked platform 4. Very flat. Apart from the stairs.
