Reviews of The Broadway
A. R.
I have not been down on the Broadway for two years having moved away, but was back in the area and it was great to see it so busy both in terms of occupied shop units and also people using it. Such a nice contrast to my last visit when is appeared to be dying. There are a number of independent shops and including a really good little independent baker in the middle and a fantastic independent coffee shop the black cat surf club.
F. i. L. V. (.
One of my favorite cafes resides here. The area has been worked on and looks much better with some unique local shops to check out. Wouldn't go out of my way specifically to visit the area. Good stop off if in the area.
A. W.
First visit. Very impressed with the array of shops. Reason for visit was to drop off copies of my latest novel Revenge of the Bones, inspired by Dartmoor 's Lychway, also known as The Way of the Dead, to the busy St Luke's Hospice bookshop.
D. W.
Love the Broadway, i go here regularly as i live round the corner. Pretty much has everything you need. The only thing i find a shame is no where sells gluten free pasta. Defo think one of the empty shops could be a marks and Spencer's or an underwear shop.
Also soft play/cafe would be an amazing idea i see loads of mums going around the broadway but not enough high chairs
I. E.
Wonderful free parking. Free flu jab.
But the Broadway is just a shambles, due to shut shops and ugly old concrete buildings, I understand due to excessive business rates and absentee landlords, with no investment in 20 years. The place is shocking.
h. c.
I like it here. Lots of shops and a costa coffee. Charity shops in abundance too. Oh and a post office. My favourite one is the charit book shop. Spend a very long time in there!
J. T.
A great little shopping experience is what you'll get when you visit the Broadway. Whether looking for the latest fashion, chilling with a coffee and cake, looking for artisan bread or a good book, the Broadway seems to have everything to please each individuals needs, family friendly, free parking and fully pedestrianised. Go and pursue the array of shops, bakeries and cafes, you won't be disappointed!!
t. d.
I love the broadway. Loads of options for shopping. And unfortunately lots of empty shops. At the end of the broadway there is the old Summerfield. Still empty. I would love to see this opened and a soft play area for kids.
M. K.
With 5 charity shops and a bonus one just around the corner, Plymstock Broadway certainly excels at them. Unfortunately it also has 8 vacant shops the largest (a former super market) having been closed for many years. The vacant premises were clearly not good enough for Costa Coffee who plonked a new building in the middle of the precinct spoiling an open public space. A lot of people still use Plymstock Broadway but the general impression is a shopping centre in decline. That said it is nicely landscaped in parts with an excellent children's playground.
It remains to be seen if the shopping centre can return to its former glory but don't hold your breath as Plymouth council seems a planning push over when it comes to superstores which draw money away from centres like this.
J. H.
I like it here for a non complicated shopping experience. Got everything I wanted, lots of Christmas gifts and free parking
J. H.
Lovely afternoon visiting the Broadway, we sat in the sun, each enjoying something yummy to from all the various eateries listening to live music, then later browsing the variety of shops
B.
A good selection of shops that locals love with free parking
A. M.
Lots of good shops, free parking and some good cafes.
G. M.
Quite place to shop had a few querky spots good parking
G. B.
just got back from the Broadway good to see the Broadway bissey with people doing their shopping and having cups of tea in the cafés
D. V.
The Broadway has a mixture of shops from icelands to charity shops, and quaint little gift shops. Unfortunately only one bank not very good for elderly if they can't go into the city centre, I know you can go to the post office but it can be very busy, when I first moved here there were four banks and the Post office was by its self. How times have changed
M. S.
Great free parking lots of affordable outlets in the shopping area
M. G.
The owl man wasn't there when I visited which was disappointing but there are some awesome charity shops.
J. K.
Even though I live closer to the city centre, I prefer to shop here. Parking is free and my bank, post office and other grocery shopping can be done here and the Lidl across the road. The star lost is because there are still empty premises and the street market has been discontinued .
P. D.
I do like going to the Broadway. Nice little shopping area. Has Iceland and poundland shop. Card shop and peacocks . Rowes party shop yummy I do like them. Little cafes and a Costa. Superdrug shop. And a butchers along with several other shops. Always seems busy there and there is a large parking area to the rear. Short stay two hours is free. There is also a lidl store nearby. Very pleasant little place to go. So give it a try.
b. W.
Kids pulling wheelies on their bikes, makes it a bit of a no go for shopping .🚴
T. W.
Free car park, great butchers, very large pound shop and range of charity shops. Few banks remain unfortunately. Spec savers, Boots and various cafes including Costa help make this a good shopping location. Not too far to walk from the large car park to the shops which is great when you have children or those who struggle with mobility.
E. G.
Lots of shops, great charity shops
M. P.
Less and less here. Don't like Costa coffee but there is an independent cafe, The Black Cat Cafe, which serves great food and coffee and a small bakery which bakes amazing looking cakes and different breads.
J. M.
Haven't been to the Broadway for a few years ,so was interested when a friend said there's a few independent shops worthy of a visit. So glad I did Blame Lily is a quirky shop selling clothes/ bags/ jewellery ect that suits my age & style.wonderful staff. The other place is a small bar called Ales & Tails.Great to sit in the winter sun for a beer/ Gin or what ever is your tipple. The young man/ owner is a breath of fresh air.Just so relaxing .Will go more often
J. M.
This is just a small local shopping area. It's good if you like charity shops and cafes. There is a pet shop, butchers, Poundland, Iceland and a few other places but the main supermarket closed and that building is still empty (there is a Lidl just about 1 minute walk away though and the library has a cafe and public toilet).
R. T.
What a shame. The atmosphere just dealt depressing. A lot of effort seems to have gone into making this a centre for pedestrians but many closed or unopened shops, and little diversity you'd expect from a centre that could have been vibrant and 'alive'. Sadly it appears to be in decline as with many such locations. That said, it was clean and relatively litter free, despite the apparent residue of some revellers on the previous evening (broken pot outside a shop and some beer cans in a pile). I did get what I needed and was served in a bakery by a lovely happy and helpful lady. I was the only customer in there though.
M. H.
Good little shopping centre, nice to have free parking (short stay 2hrs which is plenty). Pretty empty mid week so you can have a browse around without all the crowds.
V. H.
Pretty good but short of shops
S. D.
We visit annually whilst on holiday, we always try to support by purchasing from the charity shops, always top quality items and affordable,. Theres still the usual £land, Iceland, The Works, Costa, etc. A few empty shops which are still vacant from last year, same as everywhere in this current climate. There's a massive car park at the back of the shopping area, a play area in the centre of the Broadway for the children. Lidl supermarket at the side of the Broadway near mini roundabout.
S. B.
Didn't visit all shops but the ones I did all the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Nice local place for local people
P. C.
Changed fo the better more shops
T. B.
Good shopping, still requires revamping as most is still stuck in the 60/70's style architecture which isn't good.
l. b.
Great little shopping place to go always looks clean
D. M.
This place has a bit of everything, worked there many year's ago.
m. s.
Good selection of shops, clothing, post office, food and butchers, pedestrianised, free car park
H. R.
Lovely shopping area.
Lots of shops. Independent as well as big named stores.
Large 2 hour free car park as well as long stay car park.
t. j.
Small shopping precinct with a good selection of card ,coffee, charity shops, icelands etc and loyds bank, boots, travel and housing agents.
T. R.
Brilliant for shopping free parking. bank available shock horror! Card and gift shop got what I wanted charity shop for new handbag 3.50 Wallis one amazing not used still had ticket in. Coffee whilst writing out cards and finished off in Iceland for luxury moussaka. And music throughout from laira youth band entertaining shoppers
G.
Ah, the Broadway. Plymstock's answer to Plympton's Ridgeway. Much like the city-centre this probably seemed great in the late 60's.
Don't get me wrong, the post-office is good, Boots are still here, and the vape shop, and pet-food shop are great. However, I miss a decent hardware store, Barclays bank, and a green-grocer.
Pop down if you like to browse charity shops, betting shops, and estate-agents, where you may browse all the houses you can't afford.
Special mention to the bizarre strip of fake grass that has appeared, to do whatever on? Not to worry though, we have a Poundland and an Iceland, because Plymstock's aspirations have apparently hit rock bottom and started to dig.
D. F.
Always get a good service in most shops but find some of the staff In the postoffice not very friendly
P. P.
Really shopper friendly, especially the free parking! There could be a bigger variety of shops, a few have closed down over the years. Hopefully some new ones will appear in the future. 5 stars, but it needs a couple more shops to be truly 5 stars.
P. R.
Nothing fancy here in terms of high end shops but great greengrocers and all your daily essentials. Free parking makes this an easier cheaper trip than into town. Rowes pasties are a great lunch and the charity book shop in here has a great selection. Well worth a regular visit to support local shopkeepers
C. F.
Nice little shopping center local to me. Got a few nice shop I use lily's and the butchers, Iceland, Costa and super drug.... Got a kid play area
P. J.
Great small shopping area. Free parking and generally no queues. Great small shops like Blame Lilly, for special Christmas presents and one off ideas at reasonable prices.
D. W.
Great little shopping centre with a number of stores covering nearly all of your shopping needs, with a Costa Coffee right in the centre. Also, take-away food places. Parking is free for up to two hours if using the right section of the car park (Short stay =white spaces, free. Long stay = yellow spaces, pay). Just in case there's anything you can't find, there is also a Lidl store a minute away across the road.
M. S.
Nice range of shops, butcher, pharmacy's,clothing, bank, cafes etc, pedestrianised so no vehicles, free parking ,clean worth a look
G. F.
Nice place to browse and shop
M. H.
Sadly declining local shopping centre. Great butchers. Lots of charity shops. A Costa in the middle of what used to be a nice open space. Because putting it one of the empty units would have been madness?
e. w.
This used to be a very good shopping centre. Whenever a decent shop opens, due to high business rates and rents, they soon close. If you want a bet or visit a charity shop its well worth a visit. Even Barclays bank is closing. The rest are sure to follow.
A. P.
Not a patch on Plympton ridgeway, but it seems to be getting better. The coffee Cart which appears frequently is a nice addition. Many staff members in the Broadway are miserable, they do not help themselves when it comes to attracting and keeping customers. This place needs more local independent shops.
Florist lady is very friendly.
P. W.
Great little shopping centre with Iceland, Poundland, Peacocks, the works and independent traders and charity shops. The butchers though I feel is not COVID safe because they expect customers to wear a mask but the butcher himself chooses to break the law an not wear a mask.
J. M.
It's a convenient little group of shops. Very handy when looking for last minute bits and pieces and to avoid going into more busy places like town
S.
The Broadway has much improved over the last few years. Most of the shops are occupied (apart from the large old coop)
There is a good variety of shops a small play area for children.
They also have regular stalls and events for children.
There is a large car park at the rear which is free to use.
The only thing they need to do to improve is fill the co-op.
R. B.
When we first moved to Plymstock this was such a vibrant place full of decent shops. Despite building a Costa right in the middle? shops continue to close. The ex Sommerfields unit at the top has been closed for so long now it's embarrassing. Shops come Shops go with rumours of extortionate rentals driving them out of business. It is there and is very handy but it could be so much better
J. M.
So glad they have a Costa in the middle but could do with sorting out the empty supermarket at the end. Was told that a weather spoon pub was going in there. That would be wonderful for the area and bring more people to the Broadway.
T. T.
First visit very impressed with lots of parking all very clean. Sadly as most areas a few empty shops.
P. M.
Needs new life down here.
A decent greengrocer and a fishmonger would be great here. I would visit frequently then.
Rent is too high for small businesses though.
L.
Very nice shops and facilities. Sad to see a Costa where there are already lovely cafes though.
B. C.
Nice to see Broadway back bustling like it used to be years ago lots of lovely diverse shops
A. N.
Go there for the Earthkind Refill Shop and Rise Bakery. Unfortunately it looks quite run down with a number of empty shops.
L. R.
Nice small shopping center..
But as all places some shops closed
Found a nice cafe enjoyed a chat with Tracy ..
S. M.
It's a shame that some shops here have closed down. Lots of charity shops. It could also do with some more clothes shops. I would definitely visit more if it did as parking is free and shopping here is quicker than city centre.
P. D.
It's nice at the broadlway a few shops shame the large ex supermarket isn't in use
J. W.
Sad to see so many shops closed in 2020. It needs much needed money from the Government and local Council, to bring it back to life and prosperity once more. 😊
M. V.
Lots of shops, different things to do coffee at Costa or a sausage roll at the bakery, pop into one of the 3 or 4 charity shops or do a weekly shop at iceland. Has a shop for all your needs.
S. E.
A good variety of shops in a pedestrian friendly thoroughfare. Within a couple of minutes walk there are even more shops. Free car park for short stay and good bus connections.
M. A.
What more could you ask for. Iceland, Costa coffee, card shop the works and a super drug. There's also a pet shop and several other shops, shame peacock's have shut down. Also a lidl just outside
F. B.
Pedestrianised shopping centre with large free car park (2hrs). Mixture of independent local and national shops. Some empty units but still has Bank and Post office.
d.
Not a bad little place. Helpful businesses and places to stop for a bite. Wil a bit of regeneration it could be great
D. S.
A lovely place to visit and walk around, plenty of shops to go in and buy.
E. Y.
Well it's a shame as the variety of shops just isn't there. Plymstock and the other outer suburbs need shopping areas. The broadway could be fab for that but instead it's getting filled with coffee shops! Not good. However the other shops there are good. Atleast you have the likes of banks, Poundland, Boots etc but not enough for what it is.
M. D.
Great little shopping centre with couple of bakeries, Costa poundland, Iceland, banks and clothes shops. Large free car park. Level access but no toilets.
Z. H.
This is a good shopping centre located in the centre of Plymstock. There is a large car park located beside the entrance. There isn't staff around the shopping area, but there are many security cameras, so the area is safe during opening hours. There are many well-known brands, as well as some independent businesses. The area is right near the main roads of Plymstock, so has pretty good access to anywhere in the area.
Z. H.
A couple of good shops which include Poundland, The Co-operative, Iceland e.t.c
There is a pretty big car park outside and it's pretty clean, I have never actually spotted any dirty litter on the floor before
L. G.
Good to see shops open. Lots of useful shops and a few charity shops.
P. L.
The Broadway at Plymstock is a good place to shop without the hustle and bustle of a busy town centre. There are a variety of stores on the Broadway from Iceland to a Costa coffee shop, the Works bookstore to Boots pharmacy and a cheap store I can't remember the name of this one but it's similar to a pound store.
The Broadway has its own parking facilities so even that has been taken care of for shoppers.
The Broadway is a great place to visit, a must when coming to be the Plymouth area or a great place to go shopping or meet up with family and friends.
J. F.
Great little shopping centre with quite a few high street names, eg Boots, Iceland and Card Factory to name just three. Free parking. It's a little gem.
F. !.
Great area for kids play. Needs less coffee shops and more variety
N. K.
A truly amazing shopping experience. The huge range of shops is on a par with Dubai. I look forward to each trip down from Staddiscombe with glee😂
J. J.
Excellent shopping facilities, somewhere to have a drink and the children can play safely.
P. B.
Big free car park and a nice kids play area. The shop selection is small and lacking in variety. Could do with more investment and more shops open on Sundays.
T. K.
Great market on the last Saturday of every month. This place is getting better and better!
E. D.
This is a good busy little place with a huge parking lot and plenty of stores with lots of good choice.
S. W.
Reasonable selection of shops here including cafe and baker. Parking generally OK although can be very busy at certain times.
P. E.
Useful local shops and cafés. Was better when the supermarket and veg shop were still open but recently seems to be gaining a fresh impetus. Nice little play area for kids and large free car park. Close to Plymstock centre and the library. Lidl's Close by which extends the range of produce offered. Rumours of Wetherspoon taking on the old supermarket site which would bring back even more life. A new Costa has been built right in the middle which is possibly the ugliest new building in Plymouth and blocks the view of nearby shop fronts. Will not use it as there are good local cafes opposite.
t. b.
Nice place for a few hours. Got clothing shops, Iceland, and pound shop. Made better as now can have a coffee in new Costa.
R. B.
Great place to shop lots of variety and lots of places to have a bite to eat need I say more
H. B.
Great and friendly, accessable little shopping / community area.
Just a shame that the Unit Rentals are so prohibitive, that most new and enthusiastic businesses, go bust before they have a chance to break even.
N. P. F.
Local shopping precinct for the Plymstock area. Not as busy as it used to be with me shops moving out then moving in. A few big name shops left. On the plus side does have a free car park
F. M.
Okay selection of shops, but not great. Nothing of real interest here other than a few shops. No decent coffee shops or pubs etc. Kinda dominated by the new Costa!
J. W.
As shopping centres go this is one of the better ones. Pity the council saw fit to allow Costa to build in the centre of the pedestrian area when there are so many empty shops here
J. B.
Not many shops there now I was a bit disappointed but good service in the shops that are there.
R. H.
Plenty of free parking spaces. Iceland is the main reason for visiting which is a good size and has reasonable prices. Will go again.
D. J.
Been going there for over 50 years big free car park for two hours but pay and display at the very top end. Several empty shops these days.
S. B.
The Broadway is a little run down, a little like the city centre. It trys hard, but it's difficult with thee old supermarket empty at the end & the Costa monstrosity in the middle. Ok ft or something's, but only basics.
M. F.
The Broadway is base in pymstock in plymouth Devon.
It has lots of shops . Supermarkets, lots of charity shops which I why I love going there.
As I love looking around charity shops for bargains. Costa coffee shops. Warrens bakery..cards shops..gifts shops. Travel agents. Hairdressers.. large pound shop..A big variety of shops.
Very large free car park..

S. B.
I like the broadway some lovely coffee shops and every thing you need but sadly the banks have gone
J. j. (.
Not as good as it use to be ,a lot of shops have closed down ,but there is a very good local butchers there, also there is a cafe, bakery, costa, iceland, card shops ect so worth a visit
M. B.
Small local shopping cenre. Lots of parking and disabled access, costa coffee, fresh fruit and butchers shop with brilliant pies. Banking Lloyds/Barclays and a very good cheap greeting card shop.
P. D.
Went in got what we wanted.... Didn't break anything😐
M. A.
Best shopping centre in Plymouth. Small, pexestrianised but with everything you need and the bonus...free parking! Also really close to lovely beaches and Saltram House.
J.
Shops not to bad needssomething to pep it up a bit.
S. M.
It's a local shopping area, and that's it really. Too many Charity Shops & Estate Agents.
E. J.
Pedestrian used shopping area, free parking. Estate agents, charity shops, 2 bakers, 1 butchers, The Works, pet shop, Iceland, Thornton's, post office/newsagents, Peacocks, Boots chemist & pound shop.
Y.
Haven't been since I was 15 and went recently. Still lovely less shops than I remeber though
L. M.
Great to see more units are being filled. Lots of choice of shops now 😃
K. S.
Great little shopping centre
G. S.
Very quiet and easy to get round there a couple coffee shops selling pastry all good for a couple of hours
N. H.
This place could do with some love, it has a good bus service, & a large car park but the shopping centre is looking tired. & a shadow of its former self.
J. L.
I like the broadly, but instead of closing some shops they should put the rent down and may be retailers might stay .think something needs to be done or a lot more shops will close.xx
l. w.
Friendly shops & no need to go anywhere near city centre
M. E.
Good place to shop
H. “. M.
Always loved it here they have ow open a new Costa coffee house you can sit outside it is right in the middle of the square so when it is sunny day it is lovely
K. P.
Generally looking tired. That awful coffee shop has put a blot on the landscape too. whatever happened to renovating the old Co-op.
T. J.
Lovely local shopping centre. Shame so many of the banks have gone and local businesses.
H. “. H.
Disappointing that so many shops are empty. The place feels unloved compared to years ago
P. M.
Great place to get to easy access free parking decent shops
K. B.
Not a bad little shopping area, can't give full review due to covid-19
K. E.
Great selection of shops travel agents bank & . Estate agents. Parking is free long as you don't stay too long .
C. H.
Broadway use to have a great variety of shops for everthing you wanted, sadly no more, needs updating and the shops including a supermarket brought back.
j. b.
It's a nice little shopping centre unfortunately new look has closed and there's mostly charity shops but it has got a costa and Poundland also boots
B. H.
A very nice shopping centre,a great place.
K. S.
Shame some shops lie empty but still a great place for essentials and more
A. R.
Charity shops, food, decent place.
P. W.
Easy free parking with shops gathered together. 3 cafes. Now has a Costa coffee house.
N. E.

D. L.
Not been here for a while bit run down and tired needs something to give it a lift.
C. W.
Not much there any more but what is still open Warren's, peacocks, card bar, ect all friendly staff get some good deals worth checking out
S. M.
Far too many empty, closed down shops. Seems strange Costa built a new building instead of renting an empty space - are the rates that high...
S. S.
Very good place to shop. Under the difficulty we live in ,at the moment.
T.
Good selection of shops to get most of your daily necessities.
J. J. J.
Excellent selection of shops and friendly staff in all stores. Buzzing atmosphere on a weekend with real community feel
M. U.
From what it used to be like it's now dead with all the bank's as empty space n other shops gone. So sad to see it like this
K. A.
A rather run down shopping centre. There are some gems The Works, Boots Poundland and there is 2 hours free parking
K. K.
Good variety of shops, love the new addition of a Costa shack! Friendly people, nice place.
M. “. S.

A. R.
Lots to look at. Pubs, cafes, parking, very good.
P. F.
Thankful we have the Broadway to hand locally but could be a lot better if it weren't for the excessive business rents from greedy landlords!
R. c.
Lovely little shops and charity shop aswell as cafes
J. R.
Excellent shopping centre
A. C.
Nice local shopping centre, local & national shops in one area. Some closed shops that NEED filling, hopefully they will be filled soon.
N. W.
So many empty shops these days. Such a shame.
J. F.
the Broadway has sadly fewer snd fewer shops, even betting shops and charity shops can not fill the spaces.
K. H.
A nice little shopping space coffee shops charity shops banks Iceland Pet Shop and no cars does have a good car park at the back free parking
F. K.
Love this place all year round especially the summer.
I hope some of the empty units will eventually get filled.
l.
Lovely little shops. Everything you need on a daily basis. 👍
E. S.
Just with there were more diverse shops.
T. G.
Must visit out of town shopping in what could be called the heart of Plymstock
G. T.
Average not as good as it used to be there's a excellent butcher shop that makes the best pasties.
M. G.
Most shops trading , quite busy mid week.... good coffee shop with toilets
G. W.
Ideal for shopping locally in plymstock several shops cafes also library with very nice coffee cafe
K. L.
Good area for shopping for essentials like superdrug or pet store or costa . Free parking
S. L.
Great stores on the Broadway and is local to people's homes in Plymstock. I don't go here often unless I need to go to Iceland
G. F.
Run down and a bit shabby looking shopping centre. A few banks, coffee shops, newsagents, estate agents, etc. Not much else. Could do with a facelift and a supermarket.
B. J.
Convenient for post office and banking, plus some decent shops, including butchers & Costa.
p. S.
Good shops, precinct a bit tired but well worth supporting. Keep it local.
B. M.
