Reviews of Poplar Baths Leisure Centre and Gym

A five star experience, but basically as a result of the swim staff, the coaches, life guards, etc. If you are a non-swimmer like me, they really are invested in you learning to swim, with some of the lifeguards sharing valuable tips with you as well. The coaches will ask you what your goals are, and then push you towards them in a fun, but challenging class.
The pool could probably benefit from more lanes, and for me, would definitely benefit by being a couple of degrees warmer!
Maintenance of the changing areas are undertaken periodically by staff, but it's worth bearing in mind that these are high use areas as they have a constant flow of schools throughout the day, due to the loss of one or two local pools over the past two years.
Telephone customer service is not based inside the actual centre, which is a pity, because they would have immediate access to centre knowledge such as class cancellations, etc, etc.

Great pool for baby/kids swimming classes. The changing rooms are clean and well laid out for parents. There is a family changing room but there are only 4 cubicles. The ladies changing room has a large low bench which is perfect for getting babies and toddlers ready. The kids pool is a good size and usually warm. My oldest did swimming here from 6 months to 2 years, we had to change classes to York Hall because I could no longer do weekdays. In April we signed up again here and she loves it, she really missed not going to classes during all the restrictions. She's almost 4 and her confidence in the water is improving every week. Highly recommend this centre, the staff are very helpful.

Loving the classes and the friendly welcome from most of the staff I have so far met. Helping me to regain that Vogue body that's been hidden for way too long! I go on my own and feel totally at ease. Try it, you might like it!

Great swimming pool but like most modern day centres, it'd be even better if it were 5 times bigger!! Good changing facilities with male/female/family changing rooms. A shower in the family changing room cubicle is a great touch. 20p for lockers. Staff are friendly, helpful and keep to the rules and are good at enforcing them, which can be annoying (imagine being whistled at by the lifeguard for swimming past the boundary marking non-swimmers area, as you're the adult with 2 non-swimmers [the ratio is 1 adult swimmer to 2 non-swimmers]). But you console yourself with the thoughts that a) they're doing their jobs b) people are being kept safe. If you have children that can swim, they do a test which consists of front crawl 25m with 2 minutes treading water at the deep end. Once they pass this, they're given wrist bands to confirm they've passed and can then swim past the boundary, which is great news if, as a parent, you'd like to do some lengths yourself. Mine passed theirs on 1st try and it was a huge confidence boost and made their visit that bit more special! Lovely holiday memories! Rates can be found online.

Took the kids for swimming lessons. It was the first session. The kids loved it.
The shower area right next to the pool and the family changing area, doesn't have good drainage. Surface water comes in to the family changing rooms also from the showerarea. The showers are a constant problem here. They are out of order quite frequently.

Great gym in All Saints right next to the DLR. Two pools one for beginners and one lane pool. Decent changing facilities and also has gym and hall for badminton and roof football pitch. Overall a great place part of the Better gym brand
