Reviews of Tinside Lido
J. R.
I love this lido! There is clean sea water, nice staff and the best - limited people are allowed, so it's not over crowded. Facilities also are good. Small cafe shop offer ice cream, snacks and hot & cold drinks and accept cards. Also you can hire a sunbed (£1.50) or deck chair (£1.00) and pay at cafe.
B. P.
How lovely to spend time in this historical, stunning lido on a beautiful sunny day. Lovely staff, beautiful surroundings, cold even on a warm day so worth considering wetsuits but it didn’t dampen our spirits! Thoroughly recommend a visit 🏊🏻♀️
P. C.
I didn’t actually swim here, I dropped somebody off for a birthday party, but I took the opportunity to go down the stairs and take a look. Really great to see it open again, because thus place is great! My understanding is that it is partially treated (but not heated) fresh seawater, similar to Mount Wise pools ,where I have swam. The water was apparently pretty cold and a cold wind was blowing around, but the Art Deco look and feel of the place made we want to stay and try it out. Great views too!
C. D.
Finally got to visit after many trips to Plymouth from Wales and we weren't disappointed. Clean facilities, friendly staff and the water was clear and clean and just the right temperature. Great for a day out with the family or just to chill out with friends.
A.
Book before you arrive if it's a hot day. Good number of life guards. Water was lovely and clear but chilly. Too cold for our 7 year old to stay in for long. Snack shack on site, sun beds for hire.
M. C.
Love this place. Really beautiful and unique. Shame it wasn’t a nice sunny day where we could swim in it.
P. W.
Visited this art deco lido whist staying in Torquay. Beautiful 50m by 50m salt water pool. Yes a little cold but once your in there it's lush. The staff were helpful and professional. Would defo go there especially if a fan of visiting lido's. Right on the seafront.
S. K.
A gem of a place, really well organised, once booked online.
Plenty of space and lots of attentive lifeguards.
A little place for refreshments and a large amount of sunbeds and deckchairs.
Toilets are clean, lots of changing rooms and a perfect place to enjoy the pool and sun. Relax who need to go abroad???
Would recommend a visit to Tinside.
L. P. E.
Excellent place to go for a swim in the pool during summertime the rest of the year the nice little beach is accessible.
O. N.
Stunning pool. A must for a visit on a summer's day. Sea water but safe and clean. One of the only Lido's left in the UK. Would highly recommend.
S. P.
The changing facilities could be better. It needs some love in places. But if you are a fan of sploshing around in water then it's a delight - a wonderful space which needs our support.
A roped off area for more confident swimmers provides a good distance to enjoy - in the region of 50m. The view over the Hoe provides a stunning backdrop.
The renovation of the lido seems to have brought around an air of rejuvenation to the area, with cafes and restaurants opening, providing a wonderful environment for a post swim hot chocolate.
M. G.
Lovely art deco lido. It is fed by sea water and the pool is unheated. Swimming here is really refreshing. The changing rooms are large and the cubicles are clean. There is plenty of room to sunbathe but bring your own chair or lounger.
C. R.
It’s is super freezing. I lasted about 30 mins the rest of the family where out after 5. The showers were lovely and warm though. The place is a look at times gone buy and definitely worth a visit if you have a wet suit!!!
A. F.
I didn't swim here but its a great looking outdoor swimming pool for public use, I think you need to book to use it.
J. S.
This lido is so interesting and in the most beautiful location, an incredible piece of history. The water is absolutely freezing but definitely worth diving in!
Special mention to the staff who helped out when we needed first aid, they were so attentive and helpful. Hope to return some day!
P. H.
A tad too cold for me to take a dip but there were a few brave souls in the Lido and even more in the sea. I felt sorry for the Lido lifeguard having to sit there watching a handful of swimmers. Still, he did look well wrapped up.
A. C.
Awesome outdoor swimming location. Not to busy, lovely art deco style. Changing rooms could do with an upgrade and a coffee shop would be nice.
D. K.
Fabulous location, when the sun is shining there is no better lido anywhere in the uk. You have to book which isn’t a problem but would if got 5 stars if they could sort out a control at the doors so all pre booked customers don’t queue with people who haven’t , it will save valuable time.
S.
My partner and I booked the 12.30-14.30 slot today and, to be honest, I don't understand why the website even bothers having slots when people can clearly just show up whenever they want. My partner and I arrived at 12.20 and there were people who had blatantly been there for a good while. As a result, people who pay to use specific slots have no chance whatsoever to get a sun loungers or deck chair, as staff aren't enforcing the time slots, nor do they have any way of keeping track of who has attended when, such as wristbands. There was no one monitoring the small pile of remaining deckchairs either, therefore meaning it's pointless charging for these. The first set of people pay for them and then others can just freely use them, which means you're technically ripping people off. I understand it's all about making money, but the system you're running is appalling.
Give out wrist bands for anyone that arrives within that 2 hour slot and change them at every 2 hour slot. Ensure that customers who have actually booked have a fair chance of getting a chair or lounger.
S. F.
It's fun because you can jump inside at the deep end but it's very cold and they are usually fully booked also you can only stay 1 hour.
J. C.
Really special pool.
Love the blue colour in the sunshine 🌞
e. h.
We are so very lucky to have this pn out doorstep, can't stay away from the place, staff so helpful, changing rooms cleaned regularly, little tea bar, sun loungers available, what's not to love?!
T. J.
Only saw it from this distance but looked stunning.
m. E.
Lovely area and lovely sea view's , we visited while it was closed but lovely to look at
T. R.
Just lovely area to be . Fun and relaxing. Well run and friendly team there. Worth Checking out.
K. Q.
Lovely day with the family here! Reasonably priced and the sun was happily shining. We parked easily on the road above and changed in the family changing rooms. Lockers are 20p but we kept our bags with us. Water was cold but OK once your shoulders are under. Some were wearing wetsuits and I was envious!
L. R.
Excellent pool with sunbeds and deck chairs for hire. Friendly staff hot and cold drinks available and snacks bring your own picnic and lunch
g. t.
Must book beforehand. Facilities great and luckily so was the weather.
D. S.
Fantastic day out... water was cold initially, but you soon get used to it. Great views and lovely building. Staff we also very helpful. Changing rooms are mixed, with larger cubicles for families.
M. K.
Fabulous place. We went on a beautiful sunny but not hot day. Stunning place in itself with equally stunning backdrop. How amazing to be having a swim and a huge naval vessel glides past. Fantastic to have a full 50m to swim across in one go. Feels like a real good swim. Water cold but almost gives s sense of wild swimming but you know it's clean. Absolutely fantastic, great value for money. Love everything about this place
M. L.
Lovely clean pool and changing area. Very friendly staff.
S. O.
We didn’t go in but it looked so refreshing on a warm day. If only we’d had our stuff with us!
N. A.
Gorgeous view from the pool, and the pool itself is quite good. Unfortunately, it was rather chilly when I went, but still enjoyed myself.
G. B.
Nice place to relax for a few hour session and helpfull & friendly staff
S. P.
Very cold but refreshing swim this morning.
I. H.
Popular place to swim in a buoyed off area
J. P.
Lovely pool, worth the drive to visit. Excellent water quality.
T. R.
A great day for both children and adults, such a beautiful location.
J. B.
Fabulous! Please use and support this wonderful space!
Tinside is an art deco lido great for families, teenagers and more 'serious' swimmers. The views are glorious.
It's fed by sea water and is not heated so expect refreshing temperatures rather than warm but don't let this put you off. It's allowed to wear wetsuits if need be.
It's good value - especially if you plan on staying all day. There are areas for sunbathing (bring your own chair though) and a small simple cafe (cash only). And there are also weekly swimming options as well.
Changing rooms are as you expect - they're mixed but with private cubicles - bring 20p for the non-refundable lockers.
a. m.
Very well managed and friendly facility 😊.
K. C.
In the British Summertime there is nowhere better after a stressful work day! Bliss!
B. C.
Lovely lido, very beautiful & pleased experience, especially with lots of other merfolk!
S. C.
I don’t swim here...but as a local I appreciate this historic lido, a few years ago it was basically abandoned and now it is back to its original glory. Really good assent to our waterfront city. Many years ago I didn’t swim here (as they charged) but instead swam at the pool next to it which was a seawater pool, which I enjoyed.
B. M.
An exceptionally well maintained lido from a different era. With a clean pool and clean changing rooms, hygiene is not an issue. Staff are friendly and helpful, whilst prices are perfectly affordable and a bargain for what's on offer. What's more, this lido's era-specific music being played for its swimmers really adds to the experience! For those that can brave the cool temperatures, this place should be on anyone's list to visit.
M. Z.
Great swim even without sunny weather, the salt sea water has less chlorine added so you can easily swim with your eyes wide open! Do keep in mind though that changing facilities are not available due to coronavirus (toilets are available)
J. P.
Great afternoon out in the sun. Nice and clean.
S. C. S.
It's a cool late art deco seaside pool, of a short that is unfortunately disappearing. The pool is filled with salt water and has been renovated, so it's in decent shape. There is a very nice walkway above the pool that is open year around that has good views of the bay. This is a really good location for watching the annual fireworks competition
E. C. V.
It is a fantastic place to relax as the pool is lovely and clean and there are sun loungers to rent to use in the blazing sun. The price is really good too.
The only downside is the parking charges on the hoe that you have to pay.
The changing rooms are clean and very well equipped and the staff are very friendly.
Overall a great day out for all the family.
D. G.
This is a lovely sea water pool to swim in when it opens in the warmer summer months (generally May to September). It costs about £5 for an adult swim and you get to enjoy a swimming pool that hasn’t changed too much in the last 50 years. It is a beautiful space and on a sunny day is the jewel of the Hoe. On a hot day there is plenty of space to get a sun lounger and chill out a little bit. There are wide sweeping views of the Hoe and Drakes Island to enjoy. You are actually allowed to dive and jump in the deeper side which is unusual for a swimming pool in the UK these days. There is no cafe here just a hot snacks hole in the wall which sells very basic burgers and hotdogs and cheap coffee. The lifeguards double up as chefs so take that as you will but it serves its purpose. You can take your own food. They sometimes open lanes for more serious swimming if your into that and if you are training for outdoor swimming this is a good place to swim in sea water temperatures.
A. M.
What a fantastic place! I love the Art Deco architecture and the saltwater pool. It's a proper blast from the past with superb swimming and views. A real jewel in Plymouth's crown. One for anybody's bucket list.
N. B.
Fantastic pool. Unheated salt water. Clean, well looked after and great staff. I swam for over an hour and the enjoyed a good cuppa. Beautiful 1930s pool, well worth a visit.
Y. A.
I learnt to swim here as a child, and spent most of my youth at the pool, Here and Mount Wise were my favourite pools.
It has not changed much since I left home in 1961 and I still love it, They have done it up so well.
And I went to see it when I was home in 1989 and 2008. Best place ever.
G. B.
Historic art deco lido in an epic waterfront location. Great place to cool off on a hot day. Saltwater pool, so make sure you bring some shower gel!
C. H.
Lovely on a bright warm summer's day. Can get packed.
G. S.
Toilets are suffocating and dirty, but when the weather is beautiful its the place to be
L. S. T. I. #.
Love Tinside Lido but not very iprest with the manager. He was rude to me last year,.When I was in a hurry to record artists on his premises. as part of Plymouth Arts weekender
A. C.
We loved being there but a couple of things to note: take plenty of 20p pieces - every time you open your locker (to retrieve money or something) the coin will be swallowed and you need to cough up again. Also, the cafe only takes cash. Don't get stuck by only taking a card, like we did!!
C. T.
Just finished the day with the kids {7 and 4} and was one of the nicest pools of any description I've been to. Sure it's a bit tatty in parts, but that only adds to the charm. One of Plymouth's best kept secrets, that's really under used.
D. K.
We didn't book but they managed to squish us in! It's really nice even though the waters cold 🥶 it's really beautiful!
E. A.
Good value for money, can hire Deck chairs or loungers for less than ,£2 for the session.
k. j.
Lovely outdoor, salt water pool. Well maintained , reasonably priced and friendly staff
I. W.
Clean and tidy. Staff were friendly. Great place to take the kids. Just choose the right day as it was a tad cold when we went, didn't spoil the fun though.
L. i. B. O. V.
We visited the Tinside Lido with some of our family from England. It was out of season so we did not do any swimming. The design of The Hoe which includes this salt water pool, makes for an interesting area to visit.
L. P.
Lovely venue, busy, clean plenty of rubbish bins and emptied regularly when we were there. Will definitely go back again. Didn't eat but saw the menu on the board and reasonably priced.
M. T.
The best Lido in the South West. Friendly staff and great fun for all the family. Definitely worth a visit in the summer.
l. f.
I like the idea of swimming pool just beside the shore and next to the sea (-:
I found it very refreshing and enjoyable, even in the autumn (middle of September). They can even lend you a shorts or goggles!
S.
This pool is amazing on a sunny day. There is nothing better than swimming right by the Hoe.
The water is reasonably warm. Really worth a visit.
N.
Benjamin show me by Instagram. It looks very good :D

K. B.
A beautiful Art Deco lido with friendly, helpful, attentive lifeguards. We loved our visit and can't wait to go back.
T. B.
This is England's best lido, using filtered and warmed sea water. Overlooks the sea itself, with Royal Navy ships passing by.
e.
Wasn't sure if I phoned the office or a old stoner mate lol I would expect whoever answers the phone to at least say hello it's tinside pool here, not hello yeah yeah sweet man.

A fine example of an Art Deco lido. It's had its ups and downs with being neglected for so long. It's just great to see it being enjoyed by so many people now.

Great location for an outdoor pool! Right on the Hoe of Plymouth and overlooking the sea. In this stylish, historic setting. The water corresponds to the salt content and the temperature of the seawater. So if it is not so warm, only conditionally recommendable.
But in terms of things great!
