Reviews of Doncaster Market
R. M.
Excellent fish and meat market in difficult trading conditions. Cockle & Clam fish restaurant highly recommended. Food hall in old wool market. Car park nearby. Toilets.
D. C.
Not much left of the markets due to covid. However always lovely people a d love visiting everytime I go back to England to see my nan.
E. P.
Food market event was fab, good food and excellent demos. Well worth a visit.
T. A.
This market is excellent for fresh meat, fish and some veg. Not all fruit and veg lasts even in my fridge so be careful what and who you buy from.
My favourite is the deli counter, great value cooked meats. Well done ladies. 👍
D. H.
Only a few decent market traders still on the market something has to be done before the market is finished ! !
G. T.
Long time since I've been here. Used to be every week. Not so many stalls but all look good. Sausages I bought were great as was the pease pud.
Really liked the wine and seafood stalls.
S. W.
It's a good market with separate areas including a meat and fish area, , although it is better than some other local markets it's a shadow of its former self with stalls severely cut in number. Although what remains are decent quality vendors with some really good items
M. M.
Brilliant place to meet and eat!! Massive selection of foods from around the world and also Alcohol and Doncaster Tap which supplies top quality IPAs. And also Gins from local and around the world. Brilliant place for Family's during the day and on the night adults only.
F. M.
I had to go town early 7.45 as my partner dropped me off before work. I googled opening times of market, it said 9am. To my shock most had been opened since 7.30. I ask a worker and he said that it is usual time so bear that in mind if you need to go early.
Again like always a great place to buy all you need. I visited the veg stalls, fish market and meat market so much choice, I ended up buying more than I should.
M. R.
A very vibrant place with lots to offer, the many stalls have a huge variety of wares. The indoor market offers a quality food hall with large selection of delis, fruit and veg and wet fish. It is well used and business was brisk. Outside you can find the usual selection of traders and if you fancy a pint there are numerous pubs and bars but be careful prices vary dramatically.
R. Y.
The building is nice but not too many shops opened
C. C.
Alwaysood quality food, great prices and friendly service. Not so many stalls as there used to be though.
B. W.
Vibrant markets area. Particularly enjoyed the meat and fish markets; lots of stalls so competitive prices.
G. D.
Plenty of different stalls , prices are competitive, stall holders are always polite and helpful and great place to visit
K. T.
The market takes a lot of knocks on social media, and it is smaller, and with less variety of stalls than it used to have.
However it has an amazing fish market and butcher’s stalls that beat the quality of supermarket food hands down. Our family use the market every week for our fresh produce.
T. J.
Absolutely love this market! Everything seafood wise imaginable under one roof at very reasonably priced market stalls
Stall holder's all very happy to help and are kind and jolly
Fantastic that there's now a seafood restaurant there too serving some delicious food I've sampled myself
Also love the little bars on the stalls where you're able to eat there
Definitely a regular now here
L. M.
Great place, there's a brilliant haberdashery stall where I got everything I needed.
c. s.
Good produce in a wonderful building.
P. A. H.
Never went inside, just had walk around outside part, could do with more stalls to look at, other than that liked it.
M. M.
Excellent quality with a vast range of fresh fruit vegetables and fish. Such a treat.
l. w.
Yeh proper market. Good parking great prices. Enjoyed by all
K. Y.
I really like the market it really reminds of the past when you could buy freshly veg and fruit and its a really nice experience
X.
I pass by often, the people are nice it's just, you have to leave at some point cuz of people asking nonstop for cigs n change.
D. C.
It used to b a good market but not so good now
A. P.
Great friut & vegetables & a fantastic Fish market, something for everyone pocket, in these uncertain times.
G. C.
Enjoyed the indoor markets excellent produce. Plus the added wool market eating area
L. V.
Great place to get fresh food ,never had a problem with quality.
J. G.
Still needs more police around to get rid of the drunks falling out of the pubs next to it. But the market its self is great better quality food and at times cheaper then the supermarket
J. J.
Some great stalls still going strong even through the colder months! Hope to see more stalls open up in the future. Fruit, veg, meat and fish etc better than supermarket quality often at a lower price!
We got everything in the below picture for just short of £10!!!
r. a.
The fruit and veg stalls outside are brill. Really good quality items and well priced. Much better than Barnsley
D.
The Clam and Cork in the fish market, amazingly cooked food, reasonably priced and a good choice of wine and beer to compliment. I highly recommend them!!!
P. D.
The fish counters have a good range and the counter staff provide good service with produce fresh from Billingsgate market.
S. S.
Would have been better rating if the whole of the market had been open, meaning the brand new indoor market hall which was closed on market day!!!!!!!
J. B.
Doncaster Market used to be great, but not so much anymore. Speaking as a customer and an ex trader the lack of traders caused by rising costs and low footfall has done major damage and I am not sure if it will ever recover to what it once was. You used to be able to go and get virtually anything you could want from there and even though you can still get quality meat and veg among some other things the rest of it is lacking and the woomarket is now a glorified social meeting spot. I still visit some times but mostly I now just pass through on my way to somewhere else. Its a real shame to see this once bustling market suffering this badly.
U. B.
Best place for high quality meat and pies, I travel a long way to come here
B. “. m.
Top End food & drink quality of all stores and very competitive in prices 5*
P. D.
One of the best markets in the UK, from fruit n veg, to vintage and modern clothing, to the award winning fish market, to the refurbished Wool Market and the architectural wonder of the Corn Exchange. If Donny Market doesn't have it, you don't need it.
D. H.
Great place to just walk round and browse lots of various stalls with friendly people
G. M.
Nice market, with nice stalls, although it's seeming to lose its charm in the recent years
K. K.
Good place to buy old vintage staff
L. M.
Great fish stall#the gentleman fishmonger. Fab choice and great service.
E. H.
This use to be a market that people from all over Britain use to come to not any more sadly the local council has through their management has dwarfed the size that it was in the 70's and as a local resident of Doncaster I don't even shop there it is a sad reflection of typical Labour management like the station area beautiful workmanship but what a mess just a nightmare for handling the traffic a kid of 5 could do better the roads around Doncaster are a disgusting mess so thoughtless management
J. R.
Busier and more atmosphere than our last visit, quite nice, especially when the indoor heaters were turned on!
C. C.
Beautiful market. Fresh products. Everything you need
A. N.
Always great to shop a Doncaster Market for variety and quality and price.
M. B.
A traditional style market mixed with a modernised indoor market and European eatery with a stage for entertainment and bars. I really amazing improvement to what was already a really good market.
R. P.
It use to be much better now is lots of empty space and is not as much choice as was before i think is better this day ordering online and get better deal for better quality as well.
Time to time if u didn't make online order i guess it will do but in long run is just easier and better do it online.
Thanks evryone hope this make bit easier to shop and get information u need it to make up decisions
J. W.
Fabulous range of fresh food including fantastic fresh fish, butchery and vegetables
s. l.
Great market for fresh fruit n veg as well as fresh meats and fish
J. L.
Years ago the market was rated the best in South Yorkshire. Now it's only good for fruit and veg. It's lost the wool market it's fancy drinks place I don't go in there. The fish market is as good as ever. The inside market for meat and bread and sweets.is as good.
K. M.
It's very sad to see the place at only half capacity, if that.
Ofcourse there's your butchers, cheese, fruit and veg, people eating in the cafes.
It was busy is I'm honest, but not shoulder to shoulder like it one was.
For specific things like handbag, vapes, bits and bobs and garden stuff there's not a great deal else but definitely some good prices.
There's not really much reason to go in to town other than needing a wardrobe change or if I just fancy a trip out.
There's no incentive to go to town, COVID and knocked people's comfidence, shopping deliverys have taken over and people would rather nip of over to their local butchers and grocers.
I would love to see the whole of Doncaster Market thrive. I can give reasons as to why it's not but unfortunately not a solution. I know money isn't the best right now and the online ordering/browsing is thriving.
J. G.
Brilliant indoor fish & meat markets, great choice...Good deli options. Super fish bar to eat at as well, lovely fish cooked freshly.
A. P.
Called today to pick up our order of bedding plants. Very reasonable, and very friendly service. It's nice to buy local and the quality is also good......the market is a dwindling asset, and if you ho for a walk round, you might find something you want to buy...
P. S.
Good marketplace the stall holders are very helpful and friendly plenty to bye
M. F.
Used to be very big but now stalls have been removed and the council are trying to make it into a giant coffee shop .
Yes just what donny needs DOH
D. P.
Still a good food market but the rest dwindles year by year.
Good for browsing the meat, veg and fish stalls.
Markets are no longer the cheaper option to shops. Prices sometimes seem high but the quality is (hopefully) better.
j. A.
A shadow of its former self a once great market reduced to a few stalls.still has indoor fish and meat markets and wool market which is to turned into a bowling alley.
T. G.
Great seafood stalls, fresh fruit and veg, excellent quality and low prices.Lots of choice for fresh and cooked meats.Just as a market should be lots of choice and good prices.
V. T.
Doncaster is a bit run down and quite shabby... However, the people are warm and friendly and there are certainly worse places to visit.
R. N.
The market looks a lot more modern, and cared for.
D. B.
Lovely market.
It's that good, I've travelled from oldbury to get there.
I've had loads of bargains,
The meat and fish market is so fresh and the best part of it is that you can't smell the fish as entering the market.
The fish are bigger than your normal supermarket.
M. S.
Really nice lunch time visit with family.
J. P.
This used to be one of the best markets in the UK. the food market is still excellent especially the fruit and vegetables. Since the old indoors wool market closed for far too long and then reopened to be not much better than a selection of overpriced cafes, the market has lost its appeal. Other changes included getting rid of some great little stalls and replaced them with more parking places.
A. C.
If you want a decent food market it's improving all the time , yes not so many stalls as of a few years ago however it seems that the quality has gone up a notch. The fish area is really worth a look round everything from cockles, whelks and shrimps to quite a wide selection of fish from around the world.
Further inside you will find excellent value of fresh meat , bread cakes , cheese and fresh veg and fruit. Do vist the old wool Market there is some very trader's still on the outside.
B. F.
Tammy's cafe in meat market great value for money staff always cheerful and welcoming
Y. W.
Fresh fruit n' veg, meat and fish market is very good but unfortunately the other side of the market, which at one time was a vibrant, bustling area selling everything is now virtually gone. The hundreds of thousand pounds spent on the old market place is a complete waste of taxpayers money. I walked through on Tuesday and counted 7 people looking round and about 4 having a coffee.
J. P.
Absolutely brilliant food market... like markets used to be...
P. T.
I always head for the market and the vaults.and gat a super breakfast
S. M.
Poor from a large thriving market we now have just a few stalls... all due to our local council putting prices up and turning everything into food and booze places in the large under cover market!!!!!
M. H.
Enjoyed the four hour trip to Doncaster
Markets were good bought nice vegetables and fish.
Had lamb burger from new indoor food hall very nice
Next visit will take photos.
M.
Smaller than I ever remembered it but that's most certainly a sign of the times.
Neil's cheese stall is highly recommended. Fabulous selection of delicious cheeses.
H. W.
Wow! One of the biggest, bestest markets in the UK....terrific produce, great fruit n veg, a terrific cheese outlet ( Neal's? ), soooper set of butchers/ pie stalks, half a dozen of the best fish stalls anywhere, a great bar in the market itself, decent cafes and the peerless Cork n Clam to top it all off. And surrounding it is Doncaster, so surprisingly full of interesting, quirky and classical buildings....eg the Nags Head Hotel building. You MUST go. Oh and such good value...you'll not spend a bomb!
C. B.
Very good place. Always find fresh and organic stuff. Fish very good.
V. E.
Not as good as it was veg and fruit stalls good
D. E.
You can get fresh veg and fruits at cheap rate
C. B.
Half empty but nice café
D. B.
Really good lots of stalls.
D. C. E.
I regularly buy fruit from the greengrocers and the quality is amazing. It tastes much nicer than the supermarket stuff and lasts longer and is cheaper. It's win-win. Service was quick and I was offered a choice of goods and packaging.
D. P.
The best fruit and veg on the outdoor market, fresher than a supermarket. Didn't go to the indoor market so can't comment. Had some coffee and cake at the Scicluna Delicatessen around the corner, superb staff nicely served and lots of fresh produce and dried goods for sale
B. T.
Great source of fresh meat and fish......excellent fresh fruit and veg available too.....
a. b. (.
I would recommend going to Doncaster Market it was value for money 💰💰
b. t.
Love this place.Been coming since I was a child
B. M.
Absolutely love our market, not what it was but still love to get in and mouch around. Indoor food Market is great, good fresh produce. Wilkinsons butchers and the Greek stall are big favourites plus the fresh fish stall not to mention the fantastic fruit and veg stalls. Guess you can tell l like it lol.
T. L.
Great place for meat and veg
S. C.
Donny market isn't what it used to be, but its still a fantastic place to buy fresh, local ingredients at excellent prices. Stalls are neatly presented and clean and stall owners are always friendly and happy to chat.
j. b.
Doncaster market is a must visit the seafood is amazing
B.
Fish Market is very good and happy to keep going back.
D. M.
Great place for fresh food good prices
M. L.
Local market. Good selection of everything you need as well!
K. S.
Not much left anymore after covid but hopefully that gets better now Doncaster has become a city
D. H.
Great all round market found everything I needed
S. L.
Lovely people, very friendly. Good choice of fruit and veg at really good prices. Lots of other stalls too. Worth a trip if you're in the area.
S. M.
Doncaster Market Place is interesting market inside a massive beautiful old building. The market has all kinds of shops to browse and rummage around. Lots of tredional souvenir,, gifts and craft shops. We found it quaint and curious stalls quite involving. Worth a visit.
b. s.
I love Doncaster market and it's one thing I miss after moving south, the fish market is spectacular
A. T.
I likenthe variety of food available at Doncaster Market, but unfortunately I do not drive, but bike to places, so it can be a bit far to just purchase fruits, meat, fish and vegetables. The supermarket has always been my choice for convenience. But lately I've been heard adverts about supporting local businesses. So one day I decided to bike to the market and see about doing that. I'm glad I did, other than a new routine of weekly visits and exercise, I've now found a way to support local businesses and get a delicious variety of foods at a better price as well as being fresh. So please support Doncaster Market and try all that you can see, you will always find something delicious and new there.
M. H.
It's lovely to have such a diverse market local.
D. N.
Great market lovely produce always an exciting atmosphere. The food is always so much better than supermarket food.
The meat and fish market are a personal favourite.
The cost is slightly higher than a supermarket but the quality difference is huge.
Tell all your friends about this place as it needs supporting to get better.
The new addition of the food and drinks area is amazing with live music on a Friday night. Lovely people have been here every time I have visited. Usually you find the market area is populated with the less desirable people bit the food area is attracting a nice crowd of people.
T. M. F. S. L.
Fresh fruits and Vegetables sold right in the heart of the city
P. K.
Good market. I like this place. You can find everything what you need. Fresh fish and seafood vegetables and fruits and much more.
A. C.
Like a lot of shopping areas they have quite a few vacancies. Observed one of the fish mongers carrying out a deep clean, really nice to see the depth of it - all the awkward to access bits having concentrated effort.
i. l.
What is left of the market is great but sadly the previous "buzz" is not there any more! We used to be renowned in Doncaster for our market. What went wrong?
s. e.
Impressive fish and meat markets. We not local having driven 1.5 hours to visit Frenchgate center. This market added to a good day.
T. G. B.
Excellent area to shop, indoors or outdoors, I shop here most weeks for fruit, veg, fresh and cooked meat etc. The choice is fantastic and most traders are really friendly and you do find yourself returning as a regular customer quite easy. The price is pretty good too, especially given the high quality of fresh product you’re getting.
P. B.
Excellent service and excellent quality of meats also cakes bread and vegetables and 2 cafeterias inside and cheese and eggs also a old fashion sweet stall.
P. S.
Wouzer, great day ,including drinks interesting Mason's and Rum room.they also serve great food.T bone bought in the market,Hake at the fish stall, fridge freezer at Sue Rider charity shop. The market stalls are a must for all fruit and vegetables.
J. M.
Good variety of meat, fish, fruit and vegetables.
l. a.
Amazing but Underrated! Needs more days open
N. B.
Great place to explore and grab a bargain fantastic fish and game stall,s spend an hour or two grab a drink and a bite too eat and there are plenty of good pub,s around
W. T.
Buzzing with activity this morning. Great prices on fresh fruit and plants
M. K.
Fresh fruit and vegetables every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, also goose market for fresh seafood and meat products. Excellent service from all stalls.
R. S.
A variety of stalls but nothing like the market it used to be , such a shame
J. M.
Sad in parts. The Corn Exchange was good and the traders knowledgeable and polite. The outside stalls were so few and far apart. They lacked the selection of only a few years ago and looked drab in the sunshine. Rubbish flying in the breeze was in danger of tripping less mobile customers.
A. M.
Great selection of stalls on Doncaster markets with good quality produce. Particularly meat, fish and veg. Good selection of Independent traders also with arts and crafts. Love Donny Market. Give it a try if you haven't been for a while.
w. n. l.
Doncaster Market is brilliant. You can get your meat fish and fruit and veg all at same place and it is so reasonable and good prices. Bargains galore people. The butchers on the meat market are all great. And the fruit n veg stalls the staff are great n so friendly it is just a nice shopping experience
B. A. A.
Well stocked and very clean
S. H.
Fantastic traditional market. One of the largest remaining in the UK.
There are indoor and outdoor markets selling the usual market wares. There is a fish market, a wool market, newly redeveloped in the last couple of years to include bistro eateries and tapas bars.
The markets also have many individual unique stalls dotted around. There are some beautiful craft and bohemian stalls on the upper floor of the indoor market. The ceiling and roof of this upper area is stunning and an important part of local history. Go see yourself, it's really is beautiful.
There are frequently pop up second hand, car boot type selling stalls and other market events.
There really is a unique atmosphere about Doncaster market that you just don't see these days anymore. I love to wander round listening to the calls and shouts of market traders selling their wares. Definitely worth a visit!
R. L.
Interesting place, need I say more.
F. H.
Love Donny Market especially the fish stall.
The fruit and vegetable stalls are very reasonably priced, so much better than your supermarket chains. The people are very friendly and helpful.
j. w.
Has everything one could be.looking for.
Amazing.
H. A.
Wide range of locally and internationally produced goods at excellent value. One of the best markets in the North of England. A tour of the Victorian Market Hall is a must for all visitors. Its location, a stone's throw from the railway station is no accident. Across the new road is Doncaster College, which used to be the site if the animal markets. Archeologists have found the remains of a Saxon cemetery under the market place. Until the arrival of the Vikings, the Saxons lived outside of the Roman ruins of Doncaster which were focused around St George's Church, North Bridge and the area around Mark's and Spencer.
J. C.
Excellent choice of stalls, very friendly market traders. I've always liked the indoor fish market. It always has a good range of choice
R. Z.
Wish I could shop there every day!
c. s.
Really enjoyed our walk around Doncaster Market today, plenty of places to sit,had a fish dinner in restaurant, bought seafood platters for tomorrow tea, strawberry, cherries and so much more, sat at home now having a can .
S. G.
I go most weeks, highly recommend Wilkinson butchers. Fresh fruit band veg, lasts longer than supermarket and way cheaper and the atmosphere is unbeatable
J. W.
Went to which craft in the corner exchange. Spoke to a lovely gentleman. Got takes for the Stamp Magic craft show. Very clean.
J. K.
The new indoor bit seems like a waste of money at the minute but hopefully when things calm down a bit it will pick up. The market will never be what it once was last century indoor or out, but if you look you will find some decent stuff sold by down to earth folk like the coin guy and the folks who sell some treasures on a Wednesday on the little market, near the woolpack. We need to take the time to have a gander now and then to help protect and encourage these true remnants of a bygone Donny, because if we don't we will miss them when they are gone. Replaced by makeshift over priced pound stalls and pot bong peddlers.
A. B.
I love this market, now we nearing normality again, Doncaster market is starting to get a buzz about it, lots of different stalls, veg, fish, fruit etc, anyone can get around in comfort, scooter's, wheelchairs etc, also lots off bargains to be had, car parking is nearby (not free)😔 and the interchange is only 5-10 mins away.
D. M.
The down side Is the fact that , like everywhere in the country , there are still people having to beg . Which is so sad to see in 2021. Poor souls. The upside is a very varied market place. It has a massive range of produce! And I am yet to discover a stall holder that isn't anything other than very friendly and very helpful. Fish game fruit veg cheese meat pies textiles clothing it's got everything you need. And I'm glad to say that it was buzzing today. Give it a try and give it support 👍🍻
M. H.
Nice market lots of places to eat and sit
k. m.
A cultural revolution in the differing variety of foods from around the world
N. H.
Old fashioned trading still echoes in Doncaster Markets with the new refurbishment completed now hosting various food and drink stalls actually compliments the rest of the markets ie. fish market aswell as the fruit markets. Tuesdays and Saturdays are the busiest days.
a. s.
Went to Clarkson fruit n veg bargins galore
K. C. S.
Can't complain, but could do better
a. d.
Love local produce, friendly and a nice shopping experience
J. W.
Love shopping at Doncaster market, fresh produce and friendly people, what more could you want...
Supermarkets have nothing on a real market xx
A. W.
Great market for fresh fruit and veg, great meat market, great fish market. Lots of other stalls too. It has a good cafe and a great seafood bar.
J. S.
The new Wool Market is a great place to eat and drink, lot's of variety. The meat, fish, fruit and veg markets are second to none. Over the years, the choice or general mechandise has dropped a bit but I blame that on the dying high streets. Worth a visit. Great prices
C. C.
Record fair today! Was brill and glad to see the town a little more lively than it has been
C. C.
This is the best market in south Yorkshire. Freshest quality and lowest prices. Excellent fish market with wide choice of fresh and cooked shellfish. Sea, freshwater fish, game birds and rabbit. Seafood bistro recently opened
Indoor butcher's shops, bakers etcetc. A must visit!
b. p.
Not many stalls when I visited. Good for fruit and veg
C. G.
Support your local market. Everything you could want, lmost, and the prices are great. Really friendly traders.
J. S.
Lovely to see old fashioned Market, wouldn't say its cheapest place to buy meat but worth a visit
R. S.
Was a different market 10 years ago . So sad
O. P.
Great place to buy fresh fruit and vegetables. Inside is several shops with fresh meat poultry and fish and some coffee and cake shops for easy breakfast.
O. S.
This is a really good market there is a new fish bar that serves alcohol and what looked like good food it was so busy that we tried twice to get a seat one at 1 o'clock then again at 2:30 it is called Cannons the stall next door does crabs legs which are also good.
The meat and fish are good but you need to know what a good and bad fish and meet are .
There is an excellent cheese stall.
The markets are where the real food in England is this is one of the better markets in the area.
l. f.
I went into the old wool market with some friends, we had a few drinks, had some food(it's like street food but under cover) and listened to the live music(it was a Peruvian group). Food was amazing. Between us we had a Peruvian lamb curry, Indian veg curry, pizza and seafood platter(I don't know how they cooked the mussels but they were to die for, never had mussels like them before)all the food was very tasty.
G. W.
Very very good market for fish, one of the best in England out of Billingsgate. Good homemade bacon and sausages and some meat IF you pick the right stalls. Couple of good veg stalls too. Around the corner is Scicluna's Deli, not "trendy" looking but amazing selection of rare and exotic ingredients like tiger nuts, black rice, morcilla, n'duja plus cheeses! Gourmet's delight.
S. S.
Doncaster Market is bustling with activity , lots of choice, the fruit & veg here is brilliant & fresh meats & fish too .the plant stalls are my favourite. But there's everything in between you may need.lots of places to eat & drink .everything you need !
M. V.
Superb range of well priced stalls providing a good cross section of goods at good prices. Meat, fish, goods and textiles all in one place and with a lively, friendly and vibrant atmosphere.
BBC market of the year I think not long ago and well deserved too I would say.
Interesting places for a snack too offering variety and with a friendly atmosphere.
M. D.
Still good but not what it use to be
K. B.
Not such a good variety of stalls, but if u are down there pay a visit to Carol's cafe inside the meat market, brilliant 👏
H. G.
Was travelling for the food and drink Market, but unfortunately ping-gate stopped many stall holders from showing up. The rest of the market was quite good.
M. R.
This is how a traditional market should be I particularly like the fishmongers as they have a fantastic range at great prices. The butchers section is also very good with lots of sellers giving great deals. The prices from all the traders are very good and the in market cafes are great . These markets need to be preserved.
H. W.
The best crab. So fresh its tastes as if it had just been taken from the sea that moment.
Well done to the local family stall😊
P. A.
Good on the market days..ghost town when not open..free parking should be happening..but for over 20 + years doncaster council has done its best to stop free parking..but instead allow more out of town shopping areas to spring up over the years..and now they wonder why the town is run down!! Maybe the council are hoping to turn the town into flats and more flats..cash cow for them..just like the parking.
S. C.
Great traditional market well situated for other shops, well worth a trip out. Lots of places to get something to eat and drink
D. W.
By far the best market in the area even with the current refurbishment. Check out Med at the Market for a delicious meal, look out for amazing traditionally cured bacon that really fries in the pan rather than boiling and the freshest fish you can get (unless you buy straight from the boat or catch it yourself!)
D. B.
Fresh fish and shell fish, meats, pies and vegetables. Great quality at reasonable prices and experience shopping the way your great grandparents probably did. Only downside you have to carry your shopping to your car, as in no supermarket trolley!
P. B.
Great place for your fruit and veg. Love going to the meat and fish market. Quality produce at reasonable prices. Staff are usually very helpful and friendly.
Just a shame that it's in decline.
B. G.
Wilkinson's pork pies....best on the planet. Best bought pork pie I have ever tasted. The quiches look excellent also.
a. s.
It is nice I am here every Monday selling fruits & Vegetables also Asian curry's.
D. C.
Great fish stalls
M. A.
Nice to go visit the markets again, lots have changed many stalls closed due to covid but whats there is great people are awesome stall holders very helpful do go these people need your support
C. T.
This is a hub of shopping in side and out you have the old woolen market in the past in history farmers would bring their sheep here and the corner exchange was where you would get paid for your wheat crops and fined a job to day at the top you can read the history of the market and around the bottom you have the meet market and fish market and veg stalls who have been here 100 years , so come shops and do some History in the market before you go to the new museum ,
D. F.
The market has changed over the years which is a shame.I don't think Doncaster council realise just what a gem it is although the new Wool Market is trendy and enjoyable.I love buying my vegetables and fruit there and the fish market is one of the best in the country I think. The meat market has shrunk in size over the past year mostly due to the council increased rents I believe. There are lots of small stalls such as the oil fragrance stall which I buy my oils at a great price. It's well worth a visit.
D. O.
Well done and Thank you to all the market traders who have continued throughout the lockdown great to be able to get plastic free fresh produce and even some sweet treats if you fancy.
j. W.
There is a great variety of fresh food such as fruit and veg and poultry also further down there I market stalls that sell cloths house decor as well
I. “. W.
I do like it.Supporting independent business it is very important.Had breakfast, some food shopping, grabbed vinyl lp and seen some art. What to don't like it?
B. R.
Good selection of items from clothing, cushions, fruit & Veg, Fish Market through to the Meat Market. Plenty to look at. Also a fantastic card stall that basically covers any occassion. Also some good cafes. So if you fancy a good couple of hours out then well worth a visit.
M. D.
Great new indoor eating n drinking, not for me, but seems popular. Market stalls had a face lift. Toilets on market kept clean n tidy.
M. M.
We visited Doncaster Market and weren't disappointed at all. The fruit and vegetables were fresh and the choice was excellent. As always, the stall sellers were polite and efficient. Great experience.
G. J.
Great choice of fresh fish and shellfish, all looked thoroughly appetising and good service.
A. G.
Doncaster market has always been a great market not anymore most of stalls out and in have gone not much to look at now what as the council done with our market still love my fish and chips from the market they are great
A. C.
As always able to what I needed. Nowhere near what it once was though
T. S.
Amazing!, great stay fabulous room (201) lovely restaurant great food and good wine choice lively end to our week away
g. t.
Love shopping in Donny but this week when we went there was hardly any decent market stall... places closing down after over 80 years of trading because the rents are too high.
The disabled toilets being used by drug dealers and they were openly talking about lasts nights 'fix'..
Was a bit disappointed with our visit ..
Tammys cafe in the indoor market still do a lovely trade .. worth a visit xx
B. W.
Plenty of stalls selling different products. Fresh fruit and veg ,plenty of fresh produce . Also a wide range of clothes
J. N.
Great market, excellent meat and at a great price, all the fruit and veg you could ask for, again at a great price, very friendly and helpful staff, you won't regret paying a visit.
M. L.
The market was a shame...certainly nota patch of what it used to be in years gone by. The outside stalls are very much limited in both numbers and things being sold...the indoor meat and fish area is still reasonably good... with plent of variety.
The recently refurbished Wool market, on my two visits was a little bit disappointing, was very cold, and made the visit unpleasant, so much so it was good to get out and warm up in the sun...not w lot of the new stands were open, but those that were, will have to sell quite a lot to be able to make the rent, I imagine. If there was some form of improvement to the heating would make a big difference. Will check this out in the heat of the summer..
C. B.
To me, it is sentimental. The 1st time was there, it was 1988 when I was just a visitor student. 30 year later, May of 2018, I was trying to find the younger self, and trying to see it from a different prospective.
Still fresh seafood, and fresh vegetables, casual..... I hope this market will last forever, like my memories.
A. P.
Not as good as it used to be (back in the day) but that is because people shop online much more. Still a great source of bargains and variety. The fruit and veg stalls are always full of the freshest produce. The fish market is great. I stick up my freezer each time I go. Grimsby fish, top quality always.
Doncaster is probably the only town where the majority of the shops are in the same basic area. Makes shopping not totally horrible.
n. b.
theres 2 butchers in there that are both called paul. both from different stalls but they are both very helpful. one has been there since i was a child going with my parents he always has time for anyone who passes no matter how busy he is.
J. P.
The new wool market is great with lots of street food type vendors. I hope they get the visitors to make it viable. Planning on revisiting in a couple of weeks one Friday night with the fam.
J. W.
Good old fashioned market with a modern twist
c. j.
Doncaster market is essential for my needs . Fresh food and other products keep me supplied ! Love it
A. F.
I have a soft spot for Doncaster market. It's a treasure trove of wide ranging stalls boasting a wealth of very reasonably priced and varied stock! Whatever I need I can get it at Doncaster market! The city has a not-so-great reputation which is a shame as the quirky market and the town centre itself are really fab!
H. H.
Yes it has a good selection of fruit and veg stalls and Wilkinsons Butchers is good.Neils cheese stall is a must.Plenty of fresh bread and quality meat stalls. There will be a greater selection when the Market has had its upgrade finished.
R. M.
Rare visit to the market, got what I wanted
A. C.
I recently moved to Doncaster and absolutely love visiting the town centre and market. Cheap prices, cheerful people and a brilliant choice of produce.
A. P.
Probably the best market there is from Wilkinsons and Plane & Armstrong Butchers to Neil's Cheeseboard and KD Davies Fruit & Veg....fabulous 👌
G. M.
Great market Great prices meat veg and fish stalls brill good prices
C. C. (.
Friday's for picking up really useful boxes
D. F.
Well.. I remember it, before they "gentrified"(ruined) the wool market. Lots of stalls, but guess they didn't look pretty enough, so now there is nothing useful. Same, guess they decided needed more parking, so got rid of the stalls, for more parking, for nobody.
A. F.
Sad to see less stalls but meat and veg stalls good quality.
S. N.
Very very good. I liked.
C. C.
Known market all my life, Doncaster Council did a good job of slowly killing it.
The private company now running it, (that were to invest millions) now turn out to have no funds so DMBC gave the a million??
Will no doubt make it even worse. I'm sure some underlying project is in the wings for when they're killed off the market's.
Just look at the mess of the wool market. Stall holders were rushing to get out even before Covid.
A. S.
Love to make shopping in this places. I am waiting for renovation ending. Fantastic market.
P. L.
I gave 5 for the market traders. But what is Doncaster council try to do with market, close it down. We went for our last meal at cafe med on Saturday as that is closing next week. Never before as there bin so many empty stalls. Come on Doncaster council get your act together and support the market not run it in to ground
S. M.
Growing up in Doncaster I remember this as a busy thriving market. Those days are ling gone.It is now a lot smaller. That said there is still a lot on offer from fresh meat and fish, award winning cheese and sausages and bespoke steam punk clothing.
There is also a craft corner and a toy collectables stall..so worth a visit, but not a day trip unless there is an event on.
D. D. O.
All though half the size it used to be still get great produce at great prices
I love the meat market and I also like the looks of the stall on the fish market that cooks fresh fish dishes while you wait served with a glass of wine
The market is full of life and new ideas check it out
P. T.
Great place Great food all and you can a good cuppa and bacon sandwich
C. C.
Been to the Market this morning.
Great produce at a reasonable price.
"Donny Market" is one of the best in the North of England.
We are very lucky to have it near to us.
G. M.
Meat market not very busy Xmas eve afternoon but plenty of stock on most stalls
C. C.
What can I say, shopping here is brilliant it's an old fashioned market and the fish and meat markets are the best I've seen in this country, I always buy my meat from one of the many butchers in the main hall, great quality and price, I'm not a fish eater but the seafood displays created by the fishmongers is second to none, great fruit and veg stalls with traditional market shouting all in all I'm so lucky to live close to this gem of a market
Chris
S. W.
Great place around the market support Doncaster.
D. R.
I have lived Doncaster all my life over 70 years the market used to be best market in Yorkshire but sadly today it is a shadow of it's former self less than half the number of stalls and not the atmosphere
D. C.
Loved shopping around the market for a change.
1st time since being a kid.
Safe to say I will be a regular, especially at the butchers and fruit/veg stalls.
e. w.
Loved the new food area in the wool market. But I have to say the maximum of 2 hours parking is far too short now you have the chance to browse and eat...
J. D.
Alas, the market has diminished over the years. Used to bristle with fruiterers, butchers, bakers and fish mongers. Although there are a few left the competition has dwindled. Replaced with specialised goods and services. Quite a few empty stalls. Won't get back to it's heyday but still the best place for quality fresh food.
j. p.
Wednesday market is like a little antiques fair always some rare to find. The weekend market has things like sewing and fabric stalls that no longer have shops in town. Probably the best meat and fish market I have seen too.
T. M.
It's only small but got a great deal on Salmon and Sea bass. The fish tastes so much different than when you buy it at the supermarket. Well worth the visit.
D. N.
The fish and meat market is 100%. The fish market goes beyond prawns and cockles with a fantastic variety of fish. If they dont have it, ask. They will get it fir you the next time you visit.
If you have time try the open air fish restaurant Clam & Cork ... OMG. I'm salivating just thinking about it.
I. H.
BEST MARKET IN YORKSHIRE
P. D.
I like this place. Fresh meat, fish, friuts and vegetablets. The best- egss with double yolks😘 every saturday im there
S. M.
The new wool market is brill.
Plenty of local parking.
It has brought a new hip and vibrant feel to Doncaster, lots of entertainment, and food, with an acoustic performer on stage singing a few class songs (I enjoyed a revamped version of Last Request by Paolo Nutini), great job! Thanks to Annette and David Bo Ramsay for looking after the entertainment too.
Food, glorious food !! So many varieties available, South American, Indian Street food, Asian, one stall with an amazing mix, with paella that looked astounding and baklava for dessert. All reasonably priced!
A few bars to quench your thirst, and a world beer stall!
A. F.
Great diversity and interesting market. However underused especially the Corn Exchange which is a lovely building especially.the upper mezzanine.floor which sells a great range of artist quality paints and materials. The upper floor also has a great card craft seller too along with Gails Alterations.
G.
It's an enjoyable place. Good selection of fresh produce, meat, fish and dairies. Vendors hawking their wares is brilliant. "strawbries, blubries, raspbries fruha pound". They don't open all days, so definitely check schedule before going in. The newly renovated part of the market is chic, more expensive n "hipstery". There's the budget friendly knick knacks, plants as well
d. k.
Good outdoor and indoor market not as big or as busy as it used to be but nevertheless this day and age with the difficult times we are in its still good for fresh food and usual market goods
S. J.
At the moment Doncaster market isn't the best due to the wool market being shut down so all you have is the outdoor market. You have lost an amazing selection of stalls, variety etc due to this. There are a lot of improvements needed to the market area bring it up to its original standard. There are a lot of 'interesting characters' lingering in the toilet area there also which makes it feel run down and I tend to avoid the area when I'm with my children.
Apparently improvement works are meant to be going on either now or soon.
P. W.
Still some fantastic stalls if you want too quality fish and meat
J. C.
It's getting the place to the changes to wool market are great to browse shop and such diverse eating places. Then step across to corn exchange for even more great place such as dekades vintage and retro clothing a food hall and even work gear
R. G.
Good mix of stalls, great quality and service
I. S.
One of the best markets in the North of England. Great pavement eating and drinking.
V. N.
Friendly and highly knowledgeable traders battling bravely with the current situation...they so deserve our patronage. I bough fish, fruit, sausages, veg and flowers today...all excellent quality...use it ir lose it!!!
V. S.
Some folk may think the market is not the same as it once was but I enjoy shopping here to buy fresh produce near enough twice a week. The fish and meat stalls stock an array of quality produce and an indoor stall sells herbs and other deli products. You don't have to pay supermarket prices for your fruit and veg either. You can call at a cafe in the indoor market near fish market ( I have a favourite but I'm not allowed to say) ... Google .(*** I love looking at the vintage toys in the other indoor market or the second hand game stall but I have visited lots of the other stalls for services for example curtain making, key cutting, pet supplies too.)*** SADLY NOW CLOSED FOR SOME KIND OF REFURB... BUT GO IN THE CORN EXCHANGE NOW TO LOOK, VINTAGE TOYS ETC IN HERE AND OTHER SHOPS TOO***The whole experience of chatting to the stall holders is something that money can't buy, you don't get that so much at a checkout in a supermarket. Keep the market alive and visit if you can, you can pretty much get everything you need to eat well and healthily without breaking the bank, it gets my vote.
K. W.
Not as good as it used to be now the council have revamped it. More yupp, not as many outside stalls. The fruit & veg stalls still have good range & reasonable prices.
a. g.
Not as good as I remember
M. W.
Best market in the north of England, but like all businesses needs our support following Covid-19. Fish market alone is worth a visit, and do have lunch at the clam and cork. Visit Neil's cheese stall, Suzannah's Mediterranean stall, Tim and Jane for fruit and veg. Excellent butchers including Angus, Ben Marshall, Plane and Armstrong. Lots of stalls selling cooked meats and home baked pies. Home made ice cream available, and if you need duck eggs there are several outlets. And just around the corner is Scicluna's deli where Josie will have just about anything you can imagine.
A. W.
As I new it 20 years ago loved just looking and walking around went to day brought back good memories.
D. W.
Nice place for fresh fruit and veg.
A. S.
Good market, great range of stalls. Reasonable prices.
C. M.
Great for fresh food and their seafood is to die for. However is a shadow of its former greatest and the choice of stalls is much lower than it used to be.
P. A.
Visited Patsy's in the old Corn Exchange for a present for my new born Nephew. Patsy was very helpful and was happy to show me a range of goods. Fantastic service and highly recommended
P. S.
Went to the wool stall. Great prices, no pushy sales. On hand to answer any queries. Lots of stock.
J. T.
Poor selection not as good as it was.
P. S.
Not as good as it used to be, not many stalls
n. p.
I shop usually tue they have some lovely stuff lovely couple
A. D.
There's quite a lot of fresh food in there. Fish, vegetables. I even managed to get a small slice of a sausage lol. Toys for kids. Clothes as well. Good to have a look while passing by.
C. H.
Doncaster market was one of the best in Yorkshire, now it just a few stalls. It has been ruined by modernisation
A. P.
Always great selection of meat, fish, vegetables and much more.
D. D. Z.
Typical city market, plenty of vendors with a large variety of goods and competitive prices. Enjoy a day out, there are plenty of eating establishments in the immediate area.
G. b. D.
You fiind eversing and fresh
s. D.
Very vibrant place brilliant place. good selection of meats and cheese and seafood.
C. R.
Only a few stalls open, but we'll worth a look round. Beautiful meat, fruit and vegetables.
I. W.
Despite some reports otherwise, the market still has some excellent independent traders that care about offering you quality goods at good prices. I shop here every week, something I really doubt they do. Moaning into their phones on FB while trawling around Asda buying junk.
Food definitely a strength. At least five or six fantastic Butchers, fresh bread, Greek food, cheese, fresh veg, a fish market, eggs & the fantastic Med at the Market cafe. Try Crusty Cob, Wilkinson's, Angus Butchers, Penny's fish stall and Tim & Jane's.
S. G.
Lots of choice with butchers, fishmonger's, sweets, arts and crafts, records and dvd stalls to name but a few. Nice oyster and beer bar and a cafe/restaurant, plus a good fruit and veg stall outside
S. S.
Great place to shop great fish stalls. Fresh and cooked meats, veg, cheese in fact anything you could want.
B. M.
Brill place to get you fresh meat, fish and fruit and veg, much cheaper than the shops, keep going folks, we need places like this to stay, such a great thing for Doncaster, or any town to have .
P. D.
new wool market improvements good and gradually developing as an entertainment / food and drink venue. Well done Doncaster MBC for moving with the times. A real relaxed feel on a sunny , warm Good Friday afternoon.
D. S.
I love Doncaster market specifically KD-davis, all the team are very outgoing. There is a little problem here Ryan always calls me mate, however it's just normal now that I'm mate! 🤣🤣🤣
K. H.
Lovely place great atmosphere
R. B.
This is my home town market and I love it.
It is only a pity that the council don't support and promote it more and unfortunately traders are leaving because of this.
Shame on the council for allowing one of Doncaster's best assets to suffer in this way.
R. E.
If you want to buy fresh, go to the market place, good stuff 👍
J. N.
Wonderful market lots to choose from
G. S.
Good food stalls
t. s.
Good service @ Good value for your money, would shop again.

K. D.
Very good market good quality food and service
J. R.
Good for fresh meat fish fruit and veg good food in wool market
G. “. W.
A great traditional market selling all you could wish for. Huge selection of local produce and very helpful stallholders. Please support this market, well worth a visit.
M. W.
Was the best market around till Donny council started meddling. They should have consulted stall holders and the public if they wanted these changes. Buses from other areas regular visitors, where are they now !
J. E.
Shame lots of stalls gone
S. G.
Even better when the wool market is re open. Looking forward to sitting in the sun, on a Saturday afternoon with a pint of lager.
J. H.
Wonderful place to visit
A. J.
Good job on the undercover market but shame to see most of the outside stalls have gone. End of an era Donny market used to be the best in the north of England.
T. B.
Unfortunatley this wonderfull market as declined over the years. Countless stalls have gone which is a real shame. It is still a lively vibrant place to go but some local car boots have more stalls.
J. C.
I live in Wakefield, but always come to Doncaster to shop. I love the fresh produce market, although it is sad to see so many stalls disappearing. Hence only four stars, but love to have a toasted sandwich and cuppa in Tammys. Best toasty arround
J. W.
Lovely fresh seafood 😋
S. C.
So much smaller than it used to be, but great butchers and a cheap coffee
A. W.
Well it's great for out door market when everything opens up again fruit n veg talk about cheap
M. E.
Nawt better than a walk around the markets loads of deals to have .I always walk around 1 st then go back for the bargains
S. S.
Not as good as the old market but great for something to eat and drink plus wonder round the market and town pick up a bargain
S. A.
I like Doncaster Market and all the people on the market stall are brilliant
G. I.
Plenty of variety at the market. Good produce at great value.
R. S.
Love my donny market love the people keep it local keep Doncaster Town alive
I. H.
I usually visit Doncaster Market around Christmas time. The Market is getting smaller every time I go which is such a shame. I used to be able to spend all day in the Market but not now.
L. B.
My hometown market. Not like it used to be. It's quite small now but has good variety. It has a fantastic indoor food hall and an outside fishmarkst both very good.
M. A.
The best prices for vegetables and fruits and you can also find the butchery inside
A. o.
Great market when open normally.we should all use our market more . Wanted Jersey potatoes. Got some lovely ones . Happy days😊
P. K. D.
The powers that be have ripped out the market and put in posh nosh. All grey and boring you cannot buy in Doncaster what you could before. They wouldn't let an English cafe in there as they didn't want bacon butties or pie and oeas
M. H.
Still a great market, not as many stalls now but its improving.
A. W.
Great selection of traders in a central location. Everything from art to fashion and wonderful food. Lots under cover and many stalls outside in the streets.
A. C.
Brilliant place to shop so many varied stalls and in the times we are now in hope they never think of closing it down as I know a lot of my friends around the country come and love it
G. H.
Lovely to get back to thus market for clean, fresh foods.
S. D.
It wasn't too busy and stall holders definitely struggling to sell their produce .In fairness looked well presented and clean .
S. “. s.
This was a quaint place to have a browse around with different stalls in there it is worth a visit
H. A.
A sad shadow of its former self. Still the best place to buy fresh fish in the area though.
H. S.
Used to be so good but there has been a considerable reduction in the ammout of stall holders wich the new wool market foes not make up for
l. M.
Great market for fish and meat hidden behind the outdoor market. Really good stall and good prices. A nice cheap cafe in the corner too for a quick breakfast or a hot drink.
V. M.
The investment placed into the market. Has been worth the Spend.. Now versatile with the added wool market try the various eateries.. well worth the money for choice 😘
S. W.
Depends on what your looking for. As current situation and events has had a an impact , but what is there is worth a visit .
J. A.
Had an OK trot round but looking very run down. In need of a good face lift
L. J.
One of the many jewels of doncaster
s. B.
Used to be the best market in the country friends coming from London just to buy stuff
That was before Doncaster council decided ruin it
B. L.
Nit the market it once was! But worth a visit none the less.
A. G. (.

D. S.
Yes Doncaster market well worth a visit , great fresh fish stalls and lots of meat and veg , good for a walk around
R. C.
Brilliant market, everything you need, fish and meat areas were well stocked, lots of places to eat and drink when Covid is over
L. P.

S. S.
Real buzz around the market. Busy and quality meat, fish and veg.
m. t.
Great cheese stall. Good sausage stall. Best dry cured bacon. Shop here keep local businesses going.
S. N.
It used to be much better. They have modernised it!
It now has a modern day multiple bar area, and only a fraction of the stalls that it used to have.
L. B.
Travelled here before and couldn't fault it but this time, not a single piece of mackerel considering it's fish stalls, got what was looking for at Asda.... Shouldn't be that way around... Very disappointing
G. C.
Great for fresh fruit and veg
Meat and fish market have lots of varieties
B. T.
Fresh fruit and veg at a really good price, lots of good quality meat and fish too .... Short stay parking very close to it as well.
M. J.
Amazing selection of fresh quality fish and meat, never seen such a variety!
G. C.
I find the outdoor ( stalls) market disappearing, find the newly built indoor???a pleasure to walk round but understand the lack of interest from visiting coaches that used to grace our TOWN
L. P.
Not many outdoor stalls. Seems a bit desolate nowadays. Inside mainly meat and fish with a few stalls of interest on the liwer level.
R. B.
Excellent products at amazing prices with very helpful staff
D. K.
Love going to the market for a nice cuppa at Carol's cafe and getting nice fresh fruit even fresh meat from the butchers all in the market
R. H.
Whether you need fish, raw meat, cooked meats, bakery goods or cheese, Doncaster market offers excellent quality at fantastic prices.
J. j.
Great spacious and beautiful place for an open market place....
You can literally see most things to buy name it.....
R. D.
The star rating is not high at the moment as the Wool market building is closed and under refurbishment, but when this is completed should come back up to a good standard.
T. R.
Nice to see a market with lots of fresh produce.
B. D.
Went to Ale House for "pub lunch", craft beer and nice selection of food - all in the sunshine
T. (.
Poor!!!! .and talking to the indoor traders Doncaster cc is now going to try and drive them out aswell. Whats wrong Doncaster surly you've seen wheat a mess others have done with there town centres to drive customers And traders out and you are just following them like sheep.Dont moan in a couple of years when it's a ghost town.
j. o.
Same as a lot of other towns lost its luster
P. A.
Excellent market for Fruit, Veg, fish, meat, cheese and olive oil. You won't find better cheese than what is sold by Neil's Cheese Board
R. L.
Still ok but some stalls have disappeared
S. C.
Brilliant market . Lots of choice and reasonable prices too .
J. D.
Great place to visit
N. S.
Fantastic for fresh meat, fish, fruit and veg. Also all the other things household items etc. A great market!
j. l.
Was the greatest market. But it's just a shadow of what it was. The wool market is shambolic. It's just a eating and drinking place. And we are not short of them.
P. S.
Fully open now, some really nice stands, from meat and bread to plants
T. L.
Very diverse availability of goods services clothing fancy goods fruit..veg flowers
Ftesh meat.fresh fish..pets supplies household textiles. Take away food..bakery. farmers market..antiques( wed) other tues fri sat 8.to 3.30ish...
L. T.
A small market but worthy to visit.
A. S.
An amazing market with top quality local produce at fantastic prices. Really great atmosphere.
C. H.
Bit disappointed as only half of it was open in mid december, it is a great old historical covered market, and the new wool market is classy - hope it's more busy in 2020.
R. C.
Great little market breakfast good to
M. T.
I like the store but the quarter game needs to at least turn down the magnet and let someone win a little.
