Reviews of The New Leaf Co-op
M. M.
Great organic shop. I go there regularly to fill up containers with cleaning products, lentils, ecc. There is a big variety of products, from sanitary products, to bread, to all types of herbs and spices. It also good for vegan products. I do find it rather expensive, but it's not too bad when it comes to the products you can refill. I love what they are doing and the staff is lovely and super helpful. Especially, they are very patient with me when I forget to weigh the containers etc.!

Excellent, small but very well stocked organic groceries, including fresh eggs, bread, veggies, dairy and substitutes. Also wife range of flour, refills for cleaning products and loose nuts, cereals, dried fruit etc. Its a coop so be nice to them. Expect prices to be higher that your average supermarket as most produce is organic. Friendly staff. It's quite small so if you're in a wheelchair or may be a bit of a struggle but it should be possible as it's on street level and I'm sure staff will help you get in and get stuff off shelves where necessary, but it would be wise to call them in advance and pick a time when it's not busy. They get deliveries on Thursday morning, so Thursday afternoon, Friday and the weekend they'll be best stocked up.

A delicious smell of spices welcomes customers to this alternative fruit and veg business. The staff are an unusual mixture of bearded green warriors and attractive young women. Their product selection is first class and not too expensive.

Very friendly shop with lots of excellent organic and fair trade products. You can make you own peanut butter as well as almond and cashew butters! I think almond is on Monday and cashew on Tuesday but do check their website for accurate information.

Like a convenient corner shop, but completely ethical and wholesome. The bread is gorgeous and the back room with the By Weight items is great. Remember to bring your own bag ;)

Awesome little co-operative. You can bring your own containers for various grains and spices and whatnot, if you want to. They've also got locally made oat "milk"!

So excited to have found the new leaf coop! Totally worth the trip across town to be able to buy in bulk everything we need, Without Any Plastic! Bought our own produce bags and staff were super helpful and friendly. Will definitely be back to stock up again and try out the grind your own nut butters!

I hadn't realized from checking the New Leaf website what a selection they have, and was surprised to find everything from local organic fruit/vegetables and dairy to bulk pulses and grains and cleaning products. There are increasing discounts for larger amounts of the weighed products, and the scale to print out labels automatically applies the right price for a given amount.
There are lots of delicious things, many competitive with supermarket prices, and some that would be hard to find elsewhere. Another plus is the bulk format reducing packaging used, since you can bring your own containers to fill. Great range of goods in a compact space, and a good place to stop for fresh produce during the week, between visits to Edinburgh's outdoor markets.

Very good place for healthy products. Can be pricey but offers good discounts and other forms of offers. You could spend a lot of time there and find pretty much everything you need for your weekly shop. A great place.

Great local shop full of organic and vegan products - helpful and well-organised staff. An excellent community resource which continues to offer great service despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lovely shop with great food.

Stumbled upon the store by accident, I will come back! I was mesmerized by the wide selection of goods and for the care shown in stocking no waste - bulk buy products! You can find pasta, rice, muesli, detergent, spices, whatever your green environmental-friendly mind can think of. In a really tiny space they managed to fit the El-Dorado of all vegetarians, Vegans and veg-curious people! I was struggling to find tempeh and jackfruit and there they had it! <3 Support local businesses like this!

Great for bulk buying cheap (but good) spices and getting stocked up on that Peanut Butter! Great to support a local coop as well. Also stocks bulk goods (grains, pulses, detergens etc.)

They are an amazing bunch of people with real passion for food and where it comes from. They pack so much in to the shop, full of local, organic, fair trade, vegan and fresh fruit and vegetables. Go there and be amazed!

The New Leaf Co-op is one of my favourite places to shop in Edinburgh. It's one of the few places to have pack your own wholefoods with the best selection in town (check their website/facebook page for pictures of their exciting back room). They've also got a great selection of loose herbs and spices, which are really cheap and you can bring in your own tubs and jars to be filled, saving waste.
They have a really good selection of local, organic veg from East Lothian and local and organic bread and eggs too, and refills of eco cleaning products and toiletaries.
It's run by a worker's co-operative, with support from volunteers, and everyone's really friendly and helpful. They've got a great ethical and environmental value base, which informs their purchasing decisions (e.g. deciding on no tomatoes from England in April because of their environmental impact).
So lot's of great reasons to shop there! I could go on and on...

Best place in Edinburgh to get bulk foods/zero waste stuff/ vegan substitutes/eco products. Reasonable prices and great bread, veggies and sometimes sweet treats

Well I never! Any time I've passed this place it's been closed and from the front it looks like any other health food shop, so when I nipped in for the first time I wasn't expecting any surprises. It wasn't until I realised there was a back section that I found them, and ooh what a lovely surprise...
This place is filled with exactly the sort of thing you would expect: organic foods, local produce, things for people with difficult diets, herbs, pulses... but somehow it's all just a little bit different to usual, with uncommon brands or a slightly unexpected version of a recognisable item.
There are jars of herbs and spices that you decant into small bags, to be weighed at the counter; similarly, loose muesli etc, various grains, and all the Ecover type cleaning products you could dream of, and big bottles to refill from. You can even bring in your own jars for filling up with foodstuffs - they'll weigh the jars and you can dispense with endless bags being wasted.
As you might have guessed, I'm rather impressed!
