Reviews of Locavore Govanhill
A.
Love this place and the mission the company has. If you are looking to make informed choices about your food, support local produce as much as possible and eat organic and healthy food there is no better place to go. Do not expect the same low prices as other chain groceries for most of the products but this is something more or less expected. I like that you can go with your own container and buy as much quantity as you like for e.g. flour, legumes, nuts, soap etc. The only thing is I would like more products to be available for online order. Keep up the good work!
M. A.
This is the place in Glasgow for organic, local food with less packaging. Staff is helpful, checkout always takes a while as there's no decent space to put your groceries down. They need to improve the layout. Some things are really expensive, some are reasonably priced. But it's the only store like this in the city so they deserve 5 stars for providing us with local organic food and giving us some packaging free options.
Almond and peanut butter are really tasty.
There should be more store like this in Glasgow and people probably would like to go there.
I recommend this place.
n. m.
A treasure filled delight. Organic, I retesting, locally grown - it’s all here. Great coffee too.
S. A.
Very easy to find and near to where I stay, only one bus comes here, first bus service 31 every 30 minutes after 630 one every hour
M. S.
Lovely wee grocers and cafe. Full of organic produce grown locally and helping to support a wide variety of local community projects.
Fab selection of yummy healthy foods, with great service and that warm Glasgow hospitality 🤗.
Z. S.
Very nice place, good organic range and gluten free range.
Baskets could do with a clean.
Staff ws not very knowledgeable about products, was looking for buckwheat flower which they said they don't stock, but I found it on the shelves.
Apart from that I was impressed by the overall size and layout of store and the range.
M. J.
Really loved this place. I love the way they're trying to reduce carbon print and have lots of organic food and weigh your own. The milk machine was fab.
M. W.
Great resource for groceries, with sustainable local veggie options, refills, minimal plastic packaging and other good quality produce.
N. H.
Fabulous supermarket with so much choice and high quality produce.
I'd love to see more of these stores around.
A. T.
I usually have to buy from several different retailers, including webshops, so it was really nice being able to buy the majority in the one place. A great selection of products and local fresh produce. I very much liked the set-up of the shop and overall it was just very laid back. A pleasant experience and I'll certainly be back when I'm next in the area.
C. H.
This place is just the best.
It can meet all your vegan needs and non vegan needs.
There is too much to say that I like about this place so I'm gonna keep it to just my faves.
Their hair conditioners are great, SLS free, no plastics and come in a variety of fragrances. So far my fave is the tea tree one.
I also bought a cast iron skillet here and I'll be using that to cook for the rest of my life. It's amazing. I even baked a cake in it.
You can also refill your milk bottles, fabric softener, shampoo, conditioner and so much more.
They also sell boojabooja ice cream which you can usually only get at Waitrose.
The staff are so friendly and the cafe has great food. Try the mushroom soup and sour dough bread.
J. F. P. G.
Awesome local produced products shop in Glasgow. From organic local vegetables to ecological hygiene products, candles or bulk legumes.
A.
Really good quality produce in a lovely accessible environment. Staff are really nice and so thoughtful.
B. J.
I wish every shop was everything about the way this one is , but maybe cheaper. Amazing selection of products, and most things, even spices and teas, you can refill your own container, or just get a free paper bag, or buy a reusable container like a jar etc
d. a.
It's different in a good way. My daughter's hay fever led us to buy honey made from hives in our postcard. This place has postcode honey! Worked a treat. It's also got Lebanese olive oil. Rare. Other strange and wonderful goodies await your discovery.
A.
a myriad of marvellous healthy food from fresh freedom bread to the best Mossgeil Farm milk you'll find your veggie vegan friends and food here. Serious food for serious foodies, try it - you'll be very pleasantly surprised
V. H.
Lovely shop with all kinds of tasty, healthy foods. Lunch at the café was delicious.
N. G.
A great shop for organic produce and also for refilling up your old laundry/washing up/ shampoo bottles with their products, helping the environment
P. P.
Ethical and eco friendly shop selling a wide range of organic products. Much of it is locally sourced. They offer refills of everything from oats to laundry detergent. A local independent shop with a great ethos. A vital part of my shopping every week.
M. S.
Lots of good quality grocery. My favourite bread. Nice staf.
H. D.
Brilliant shop but not the best customer service. The ethos and the selection is wonderful. Truly such an important thing to have in Glasgow, however having shopped in locavore for the past two years, about 90% of the time it feels like the staff would rather you weren’t there. There are a couple of friendly staff but overall my partner or I come across pretty rude or disinterested behaviour. A real shame.
A. M.
Brilliant local grocer. Highly recommended for the ethical food and drink. Fresh milk and eggs are particularly good!
D. M.
Excellent place. Socially, environmentally and ethically responsible. Fair pricing for producers too.
K. O.
A wide range of products. High quality. Something for everyone
J. B.
Good cafe, peaceful atmosphere x
V. L.
Well stocked supermarket, friendly staff. Found some local vegan cheese that I'm looking forward to try.
S. B. (.
I really love the shop and the ethos and continue to shop here, but the prices are overly expensive and I constantly get overcharged double what the item was meant to be! Really lovely staff, but the shop is constantly closed early when I try to go in after work. Says 8pm close but will often turn up between 6:30 and 7 to find it closed. Want so much to support this type of business but these things are letting it down.
E. N.
Excellent produce and bakery goods, highly recommend especially the fruit and veg boxes
D. H.
Great place for plastic free shopping. I usually go at least once a month to fill up on beans, grains, and oils. They also offer veg/dairy/bread and meat boxes that can be delivered to your home weekly. I don't get the meat but the can verify that the rest of the delivery is awesome!
F. M.
Great to be in a place that is saving bottles.
N. B.
Really good.
Third time I have eaten here and each time the salads have fresh, tasty and plentiful. Good sourdough bread too.
And if you are lucky enough to have a baby, or grand baby, there are change facilities in the spacious customer toilet.
Well done and good luck, Locavore!
R. C.
I love the concept of this shop. Zero waste is so important. This shop goes a long way to achieving that. There are lots of dry goods that can be filled in paper bags and purchased reducing excess packaging. The disappointing thing about this shop is they also have conventional packaged good too. These goods are the same as the dry goods that are zero waste. Bottom line is it's not a zero waste shop. I would also love to see this shop having more than just dry good zero waste. They do have fresh produce buts it's not of a very good quality and is extremely expensive. Seeing butters or oils and vinegars as zero waste would be excellent. Definitely need a reduction of conventional packaged products. Also long life products would be nice to see also. Bamboo tooth brushes would be a wonderful addition.
M. B.
Local favourite for shopping. Not the cheapest deal, but sells really nice stuff. Also helps to reduce your carbon footprint by using refills for your laundry/washing up liquids/detergents/ oils etc. Will definitely miss Loca the most if move out of the area. Beware!! Roast honey coated almonds are highly addictive.
N. G.
I tried the food from the cafe and it was not bad but also not the best I had. I expected more of their local products. I guess, their website had set up my expectations higher. The store had a variety of products, many of which were imported. Overall I think they have an ambitious goal and a good cause, hopefully they will manage to live up to it fully.
L. C.
Fantastic vegan lunch. Plenty of salads in the fridge to choose as sided.
D. L.
Locally run and selling locally and regionally produced produce plus a big refillable section. Coffee shop and deli which allows take away. A fantastic shop with a really wide range of ethically sourced stuff - check it out!
M. B.
Fast becoming my new fave cafe and very impressed with the zero waste supermarket.
A. B.
I really love the new locavore space, the Cafe looks great and although I've not had their food I've heard great things about it. The shop itself is great, there's loads of veggies to choose from and I love that the dried items like rice or beans and pulses are in large containers and you can bring your own Tupperware or use paper bags. The prices are not too expensive either and there's a good selection of products.
m. p.
I like lots of their products but to be honest, some are a wee bit expensive if you're on a tight budget.
D. S.
It's a brilliant wee shop, good selection for its size. Majority of fresh stuff is local and even better they have the distance the fresh food has travelled, helping folk to make an informed choice. I believe it is a social enterprise as well. The layout does let it down a bit and for me felt bit cramped but I do like it and plan to go again
s. m.
Great prices, great selection of dry stuff like nuts, beans, seeds, grains and spices. You can't easily find a place like this in Glasgow. Not a high selection of dairy, vegetables, fruits (and dried fruits). Cosy atmosphere, good to feel alive to shop in a place which feels humane. Tip: Bring your own bags and jars!
B. M.
Great place to shop for package free staples such as rice, pasta, pulses. Bring your own tubs or jars to stock up on things. They also do cleaning products and shower gel etc that you can refill. There is a good selection of seasonal vegetables and a cafe to stop for a quick bite or a nice cuppa.
L.
The only place in Glasgow for organic, local food with less packaging. Staff behind the till tend to be grumpy unfortunately, checkout always takes a while as there's no decent space to put your groceries down. Layout could definitely be improved. Some things are really expensive, some are reasonably priced. But it's the only store like this in the city so still 4 stars for providing us with local organic food and giving us some packaging free options.
If there was another store like this in Glasgow I probably wouldn't go to this one anymore but to one with people that like their job and a better layout and till system.
S. M. H. Z.
Funky shop! Brilliant place for people looking for a wide choice of gluten free foods. They sell a lot of stuff the old fashioned way - fill up your own bottle of an oil or a bag of a grain or nuts and sold by the litre or kg respectively. I was there attending an eco friendly electronics repair cafe that was set up just for that evening - wife's sewing machine needed looking at!
A. L. (.
I love that this health store stocks meat as well as veggie/vegan options. It's such a relief to be able to find organic options in the city. The staff are all cheerful and friendly too! Love, love, love.
M. M.
Always a great visit to Locavore. If you've been but haven't indulged in the chocolate nut pick and mix, you should! (Unless you're allergic haha)
P. H.
Sour dough in here is awesome. My kids can't get enough of. Good selection of locally sourced veggies and organic food stuffs. Its the bread that'll keep bringing me back though.
K. R.
It's a wonderful place and the milk here is very good.
T.
I love this place for selling a lot of stuff in bulk. I was a bit overwhelmed on my first visit there but unfortunately they as well sell a lot of things (e.g. Biona products) which I could get at my usual grocery store as well. Not sure if a thirty minute car ride is worth getting some pasta and a few spices in bulk.
I'll probably stock up on a few things next time I'm there but I will definitely not be able to do my weekly shopping at Locavore.
A. K.
Such a sence of sheer joy finding this #organic supermarket today. What a fabulous range of products on sale. Completely blown away by the freshness of the fruit and veg. Will definitely be partaking in the box scheme. Can't wait to visit again. 😎👊😍
S. M.
Real gem on the Southside of Glasgow. The sourdough bread must be tried to be believed.. sublime! Great range of vegan, vegetarian, organic whole foods and fresh fruits and vegetables. Great range of produce available. Trendy hipster vibe. Great addition to the area.
Only downside is the single toilet which unfortunately wasn't the cleanest. We dodged a blood trail on the floor and only used because the youngest was desperate for a wee. Could be excellent if small issues are resolved.
N. B.
We go out of our way to visit Locavore. So great to be able to get refills for our soaps etc. Had a nice coffee in the café as well. If you want to think and act green, this is a good place to start.
R. C.
A brilliant selection of unpackaged goods, one of the largest ranges I've come across so far. The cafe is also lovely, I particularly enjoyed the apple pie and oat latte.
j. m.
8 bucks for a (takeaway) cheese & chutney sandwich and a small side of v bland slaw.
The bread (although pretty soggy), cheese and chut were nice and I got a free mouldy peach but really. . .
Staff were nice (if a wee bit vacant).
Amazing place, great ethos but mad daft prices are spoiling it.
T. C.
Good range of local food, veg, fill your own milk bottle, grind your peanut butter, freedom bakery bread and wholesome environmentally friendly products from further sources, eg cleaning, beauty etc. Has a slightly chaotic feeling and staff could be a bit more proactive. When you do engage them that seem knowledgeable. But does being planet friendly have to cost this much? You need to be a fairly wealthy and dedicated advocate to afford to shop for anything beyond one or two items. Weekly shops will still have to be at Lidl.
M. M.
This shop is fascinating, like taking a step back in history, ethically produced food is lovely - can't wait until I get a chance to have a bite to eat there n receive my veggie boxes either. They have a website too which is great.
E. M.
Great shop. Healthy food!!!
E. A.
Fantastic store with an amazing range of products in a lovely environment. You can take your own containers to fill so great for the environment and allows you to buy only what you need. Really friendly and helpful staff.
M.
Good selection of veg just now,
Highly recommended 👍
J. T.
Good coffee, amazing food, and organically grown plants? I'm in heaven.
J. O.
I do like the shop and the concept of keeping it local (as much as possible and organic).
However when it comes to vegetables I find them way too pricey. Some of the vegetables are grown in Scotland and they have direct relationship with the farmers, which should make the prices more competitive. Unfortunately they sell them very, very expensive.
This is one of the main reasons I am unable to go and shop regularly at Locavore. I wish I could say I buy my greens and vegs there, but I cannot afford to spend that much.
E. S.
Love Locavore.....especially their veg section....and the cafe food is absolutely fantastic.....
M. P.
Friendly staff, great selection of fresh seasonal vegetables. We had looked around elsewhere for a sizeable squash to stuff as part of Christmas Dinner for us veggies. We found the ideal candidate here at Locavore shop &deli.
I. K.
No frills in this place....... Just great produce in brown paper bags, the way things should be.......
M. N.
It is an amazing shop which gives you the opportunity to reduce the waste by buying with your own bags. It is a good option forward zero waste plan. The staff is really kind and you feel really comfortable there.
C. H.
A treasure trove of everything eco, ethical and organic. Refillable, delicious and the way all shops should be. Their veg boxes are brilliant value and quality too.
A. M.
Great store for those looking to be more environmentally conscious in their shopping. All of the staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. The coffee is pretty good too!
L. M.
Great shop lovely staff very helpful and friendly
K. M.
Really more a three & half.. interesting produce. Love the ethos of bring your own container.
BUT just because you are being ethical/organic/ local doesn't mean the produce needs to be fly ridden in parts ...
M. T.
Always has a great selection of seasonal fruit and vegetables, with minimal plastic packaging. Also a very decent range of organic ingredients and eco cleaning products!
D.
Probably one of the best latte's in Glasgow. There coffee ranges, from about the 4 corner's of the 🌏 & the selection of herbal tea ..🎆🌈 looks like a cubist Jackson 🎨 Pollock. Yeah.super cool 🤙 and informative #organicfoods 🖖
S.
Nice wee grocery store. Ideal location, acceptable prices and nothin like supporting a local grocery store!
K.
Good selection of refill stuff. Great value on spices. Very, very pricey (too pricey) vegetables.
J. K.
Love every single bit of it. The milk is delicious, the products choice is amazing and reminds me my childhood :) It is clean and everyone seems so happy, the staff is very helpful and nice and the atmosphere is so great.
Ł. P.
Now that Real Foods in Giffnock closed, it's my organic food store of choice. They have quite a wide choice of products for such a wee store. Always a pleasure to visit, and the people working there are lovely.
f. a.
nice wee shop located in Victoria road. Lots of fresh vegetables, fruit. Also amazed to see fresh spices and also natural toiletry product on for sale. Pleasant atmosphere too
G. R.
First time in for coffee. Served in a small tumbler, hot soya milk with it (requested dairy). Replacement supplied, asked if possible to have in cup, all cups out, mug OK , yes. Not great coffee. Not impressed.
J. A.

N. M.
Purchase loose dried goods and refill your cleaning products with your own packaging. Very good selection of tasty, but not cheap bread!
T. E.
Not a great selection of vegan cheeses, just the old skool ones, fresh milk is good, but it's priced out of the area tbh.

Great wee shop. Bring your own containers . Everything from herbs, cereal, dried fruit, nuts , lentils & beans. Vegan choices of food, Jackfruit, Seitan & Tempeh.

Love this place

We visited near closing time and had a coffee, which was good. I asked the cost of a single slice of quiche/flan which had no price beside it. It cost about £4 to take out but the price doubled to about £8 to eat in! Who pays that? The lighting was poor and the place felt cold, stark.

(Translated) Very good address for those looking for ecological and varied products (fruits, vegetables, breads, bulk foodstuffs, other foods and cleaning products), many of which are local. The staff and place are friendly. You can eat and drink on site or take away. This is the right address in Glasgow for those who eat organic!

Locavore ist ein Bioladen Hier gibt es auch Gemüse, welches direkt in Glasgow von Mitarbeitern angebaut und geerntet wurde.
Dort arbeiten engagierte Menschen. Besonders Ruben und Doro möchte ich empfehlen anzusprechen, wenn es um die Idee des Ladens geht.
