Reviews of Leicester Market
K.
Feel like I’m back to the post Soviet 90s atmosphere! 😂 looks a bit dirty tho but haven’t looked close to the things. If you wanna buy Gucci for £20, here you go!
R. C.
Went to Leicester Market today and it is very clean and all the seafood they sell look fresh and delicious. Here are some of the photos I took. I did buy the crab
P. M. H.
You can get good quality fruits and vegetables for very low prices.
Almost everything is priced for a pound, so it would be better to carry some coins with you.
P. I. P.
Market with difference dimensions of entrance , vegetables of tropicals , vegetables native and all varieties, the new meat market also established with this premise.
M. N. M.
Not as busy as I remember when I was younger but just as colourful with lots of fresh fruit and veg for sale and lovely to hear the stallholders shouting the prices.
Such a shame the indoor Market and the fish market have both disappeared. 😕
Is that progress??
Anyway, found plenty of bargains.
B. R.
Smaller than the last time we visited this market, on saying that it didn't distract from the atmosphere. Leicester shopping is a wonderful experience, no shortage of shops and bargains. I strongly recommend you use the park & ride system, cheap and on time, other parts of the country could learn alot, in particular Bristol.
s. m.
Good location, some decent prices especially for the fruit and vegetables.
D. B.
Very impressed with size and variety of stalls in this market. Prices were reasonable and all stall holders I spoke to were very helpful and friendly. The layout was good too with plenty of space between stalls.
A. W.
Not the same anymore on the market. Seems to be running down. Not as many stalls as there used to be. However I did get what I needed from the tobacco stall and was served by 2 very pleasant cheerful gentleman. Also had lovely service from the hair accessory stall.
R. C.
Not like it was, quite a few fruit and vegetable stalls today. Stalls could do with replacing they are quite run down, market traders were very friendly. The food hall had good selection of products.
J. I. (.
Excellent place to do some shopping, some of them have great prices and some of them have great qualities. You need to know when you should go to the market because I've been there seveal times and I couldn't see a single soul there, on any other time the place can be crowded
A. G.
Best place to get your fruits and veggies for cheap
A. T.
Always liked the place since we moved here. Just outside the market is a great t-shirt shop so I now also have a new shirt in addition to the fruit and bag shipping at a great price
A. S.
Fruits vegetables to bongs and bomber jackets, a small place but cheap goods and fresh veggies and fruits are available but on specified timing.
B. A.
Go here to get fresh fruits and vegetables at bargain prices. If your are on a lean budget, hit the Leicester. Located right in the city centre, a few meters from the famous clock tower. You cant miss it! Here's a tip: Visit the market around 5pm to buy items at half the price!
A. C.
To be fair , its gone down hill over the years as with most markets, who wants to be up that early and face long cold days out, when the shops can do you over with their prices. came from a market background and apart from the other traders i dont miss it.
S. F. P.
Amazing hot chocolate and coffee at Café Bocca on the corner of Leicester market. Super clean with very friendly and polite staff. Highly recommend.
K. 1.
It's a market. It was much more vibrant before Covid, but seems to be slowly getting back there. You want fruit and veg head there. You want sea food, the fishy type indoor market, head there. You want cheap hats, coats and stuff, probably best to avoid, you know, cheap.
The real question is how boring my life must appear to anyone choosing to look it up. It's basically supermarkets, coffee shops, and hanging around :-) The only thing more boring than my life is writing a review on a sodding market, you have to be very bored to do that.
Anyone reading this have a blessed day.
N. C.
Everytime when I have visited Leicester in the weekend I love to have a short visit to the market.
Lots of vegetables and fruits which you will never find in the supermarket at so affordable prices.
Good opportunity for a cheap shopping.
j. B. A.
It's actually a good place to buy fruit and vegetables much cheaper than the supermarket so I am satisfied with the price but little bit disappointed by the vendors behaviour but it's fine and especially about the fish market you'll get decent quality of fresh fish , I don't know much about the quality of the meat I haven't tried ill try to put a review when I do.
G. F.
Fantastic undercover market that sells fruit, veg and various other items. Different stalls on different days. Wonderful place to get ya veggies.
P.
Wide variety of fresh meat and produce supplied
G. U.
Great for outdoor events especially if you want to take your doggy companions with you as we did. We visited a vegan Market there and we all enjoyed the sights, sounds and lovely foods available 😋🐕🦮
R. L.
Always get a good selection of Fruit and vegetables. Reasonable prices and lots of banter.
Good to see it getting back to normal after Covid. 😈
C. A.
Fresh fruits and vegetables you can buy from there with good price
A. F.
My feelings towards Leicester Market are somewhat ambiguous. On the one hand I quite like the idea of a fresh produce market in the middle of a town/city, but this one makes the Bridge Street market look like Harrods.
And there is The Corn Exchange Lloyds Bar, which has the type of clientele that has double voddy with a pint a Carling for breakfast - looks pretty bad but mostly harmless, though.
From carpets to bananas, from novelty tobacco tin boxes with weed leaves painted on them to vintage Nintendo games, name it you can buy it here.
My personal favourite stall used to be the gentleman selling vinyl records on Tuesdays, could spend ages just browsing there.
V. V. G.
This is a good place to buy groceries, clothing, shoes and more. Fruit and vegetables are really well display and good quality.
A. S.
Can get fruit and Veg, buy a hand bag purse, birthday cards wrapping paper, make up and flowers during spring/summer and a little outdoor café
M. M.
Needs to encourage a more diverse range of stalls, when I was a child there was a bit of everything, bring community events here
J. P.
I Traditional And Local Open Market - Local Traders,Selling Various Goods From Flowers To Fruit And Vegetables,To Other Items - All Localities Sorted And Freshly Items - All Friendly And Helpful People That Work In Leicester Town Market
o. u.
A active market with lots of fresh agricultural produce sold at good rate. It is easy to access and centrally located.
C. E.
Got some good fruit and vegetables at a good price. Meat and fish stalls were well stocked
Y. m.
Not what it was pre covid, such a shame as you can't beat the hustle and bustle of a real market like Leicester.
I really hope things get back to normal soon.
E. T.
High quality fruit and veg. Much of it presented as a ' pound a bowl '. More people should use it as an alternative to supermarkets.
B. T.
Not bad thought their, would be, more of a, variety tho, some, of the market traders were keen to rush our custom and not ceey helpful or, polite
a. s.
We good place for buying fruits and vegetables any other miselanion stuff very cheap as will
H. R.
Looking sad and empty. Fruit and veg good value for money. Market traders seem tired and lacking in tolerance.
R. N.
Excellent indoor food retail area. Fishmongers, butchers cheese etc. Great products excellent value.
T. C.
Was very nice visiting the Leicester Market with my bestie, enjoyed lunch, shopping handbag and many more.Beautiful city
A. D.
Loved visting the leicester market been very useful to learn other people and would recommend others becuase they provide good quality of fruits and vegtebal
A. W.
Interesting, about 50% of the stalls are empty, it is a Wednesday so it maybe different on another day.
A. P.
This market is considered the largest outdoor covered area in Europe. It is said that it has more than eight hundred years and exists, in its current position, precisely in the Market place, near the Clock Tower, in the city center, for about seven hundred years. It is one of the most characteristic markets in England, as this market has always been a center for the sale of fruit and vegetables from all over the world. Here the prices of the mercansies, are at very affordable prices and,as I said earlier there is ,for those who must do the shopping, the embarrassment of choice.
O. D.
I put 4 star because yesterday when I was looking the things I wanted to buy some staff, there was empty because all are finish.
H.
This place has great fruit and veg for really cheap prices. This place is a great place for students instead of having to shop at supermarkets etc. especially with fruit.
You usually have to eat the food within a week or two depending on when you get them and how you look after/store them.
D. F.
Such a Good quality of fruits and vegetables and everything is cheaper and fresh...
A. K.
Lovely market and the indoor area serves excellent fish and meat
C. T.
Huge selection of fruit and veg at great prices mixed with a variety of ther stalls selling clothes, bags etc.
H. N.
More vegetables and fruits available. Check the items before you buy as there are non fresh items in the bottom of the box.
M. C.
Lovex the old market but sad to see its smaller now not many stalls my father barrie had a stall there many years ago
U. S.
Best place where we will get fresh fruits and vegetables at best prices.
F. F.
It a very nice place to shopping because it has a lots of variety things to buy. Love going there.
D. A.
Good range of fruits and vegetables at competitive prices.
J. W.
Fantastic place loads of fresh produce and other stalls. Massive area to look around. Lots of shouting to announce fruits n Veg offers and prices though so be aware of this if you have impairments as this can scare people
D. M.
Plenty of fruit and vegetables , reasonable price and good quality.
M. K.
Good products and prices. Not as busy as used to be.
s. g. k.
Love this place for the look and feel. Puts a human touch to shopping.
R. L.
A literal iconic Leicester legend, it is still the largest outdoor covered market in Europe. From fruit to Fredos you can get all sorts of quality good here.
The fruit sellers are the main reason I use the market. Fresh, reasonably priced, locally sourced produce that varies everyday. The quality is generally great and most seasonal fruit and vegetables are available.
The relatively new indoor meat market is a fantastic addition. I often peruse the stalls on my way through the city centre and always seem to find something tasty for dinner - whether that be a marinaded chicken thigh or a minted lamb shank to mention a couple.
I. S.
Great market laid low by post pandemic problems. Great to see the stalls there and great selection of food. I only hope the numbers will increase soon. Cannot lose Leicester market
O. T.
l like Leicester very much nice places
G. N.
Brilliant for fresh fruit and veg, various other foodstuffs and a few other things like clothes, fabrics and smoking paraphernalia. Better prices than most shops and generally better service, as well. Recommended.
S. S.
It has really changed since I last went. Some decent places and deals around. Lots of good and cheap fruit and veg.
Just not as many stalls as they used to be which is a real shame.
G. M.
Great market for fruit and veg.
A. W.
Gr8 place cheap and a great place to visit
Iots of different multi cultural products you don't see everywhere
O. K.
It's not any Camden Market but, with a grand history and decent quality food and items, it's a must visit for anyone who lives in Leicester.
A. R.
Love visiting the market whilst we're in Leicester, visiting my brother. Everything seems to be available, at fantastic prices too. We're always shocked how cheap the fruit & veg stalls are, compared to the same produce in our home town & local area, where there's hardly any market stalls at all People are always friendly, & I really enjoy the atmosphere, & banter, you can only get in a market, such as this. Long live the market stalls, and stall holders, who sell fresh local produce, & support the local farmers & outlets, during the process,
j.
Great selection of fresh vegetables, meat and fish. Prices are very competitive and the quality is superior to that of local supermarket chains. Great bargains to be picked at the end of the day as well (although the quality isn't as great as in the morning). The trip to the city centre is certainly worth it.
J. J.
At veg market we. An have Fresh veggies and fruits at Reasonable price. Whole market centre has very old building structures. Beautiful sculptures to watch and surrounding areas are worth exploring .... i. e. small walk towards high cross shopping centre historical clock tower and exploring the fountain towards town hall.
A. M.
Perfect for fruit and veg. Have a bag and shoe store and a barbers.
P. C.
Majority fresh fruits available @cheaper price.Only problem is that you really can’t touch and see whether they good r bad if incase needed.
R. H.
Good choice of fruit and vegetables including some exotics, always a great market.
k.
Great open air market... a few stalls even kept going through the pandemic lockdown! Thank you to them. That said, I avoid the reduced cost fruit and veg now as in my experience it goes rotten very quickly!
T. I.
I like its fresh produce section. Really great variety is sold here. And in many cases at bargain prices, especially in afternoons when traders reduce prices to sell instead of taking products back home.
m. c.
Love going to the market, everyone's very nice
S. S.
Fruits are cheaper here and there are varieties. Other things like bags, wrist watches, umbrella, cold wears, shirts and Jean etc.
R. H.
Good variety of products, fruit and veg, shoes, clothing, smoking products, material, books and magazines, second hand stalls, computer games, great indoor part with food stalls. There is a great may counter which sells fresh meat and a great selection of cooked meats as well as pies and eggs
J. I.
Not many stalls left but please go and support amazing options and £1 a bowl for many! Would get so much more here for your money than any supermarket and no doubt fresher!! Support the stalls its now a weekly visit for me
W. Y.
I often go there. Fresh and cheap fruited!
R. D.
A good place to buy vegetables at a low price
L. M.
Only less than half the stalls occupied, most selling £1 bowls of fruit and veg. One stallholder made me a bowl with a couple of each fruit. FANTASTIC GESTURE AND MUCH APPRECIATED 👏👍Thanks
M. W.
Best and bargain fruit in Leicester and value for money 💸
A. K.
Good market let down by lack of council funding
C. A.
Nice place to purchase fresh vegetables of farm products generally. The prices are also really good and seems to be cheaper than the ones you get from other stores.
L. W.
Leicester Market is always good, practically get anything
S. M.
It was good but maybe I got the wrong day as it was half empty
I. Z.
Fruit and vegetable market at good offers
A. B.
Good value, good quality and a great experience. I always come home smiling after shopping at the market!
V. S.
It's like boot camp. You can but some items for lower cost
v. s.
Cheap and best veg and fruits.
U. F. R.
Great place for a bargain on fruits and vegetables. Local pub near by and close to central town. Really convenient, loads of great stall holders. Must have a look if you have never been
G. S.
Good to help small shop keeper's
W. B.
Small market but interesting
R. S.
The Leicester Market is well maintained and an open market hall during this time of pandemic all the rules are followed, I love to buy all my fruits and vegetables as the price are reasonable, it serve the community well.In addition, the Fish market is very neat. To my experience Leicester Open Market is the best place to shop.
S. B.
Best place to buy fresh vegetables and fruits .Almost everything for 1 pound.
E. O. A.
One stop location for all your needs - fruits, fish, meat and other household items.
A. N.
Lots of fruit and veg not much else.
W. P.
Nice go out with family, but quite expensive a car park
N. C.
Nice clean market with lots of fruits.
K. C.
Love a good market where you can get fresh fruit and vegetables
A. L.
Very cheap but get home to find mold on orange grape and strawberry. Orange from one place. Grape and strawberry from one place. Fish market is good. Nice tasty fish. Nice man always good to talk. I am not chef so ask for cleaning and take out bone so ready to cook and he do for free. I not eat red meat but the food look fresh here. I come maybe 1 or 2 time a week
P. W.
Great choice of fruit and vegetables. Recently not so many stalls and near to the Bank Holiday the choice was poor. I hope things pick up again.
D. E.
Full of life, noise and action not forgetting great food produce.
J. P.
Great teaditional market with fantastic range of stalls.Good place to buy fruits and vegetables in reasonable price. In brief "adipoli" മച്ചാനെ അത് പോരെ അളിയാ .
J. C.
Even though there wasn't many at the market because of the weather, The ones that were there ,nice products and very friendly .
P. O. A. P.
Great and affordable to shop for fresh produces
K. K.
Sad to see so many stalls empty. This was once a lively market and now its getting smaller and smaller.
R. W.
I love Leicester Market. Loads of fresh fruit and veg, value clothes, collectables and the very impressive new indoor market for meat, fish and dairy
T. P.
What is there not to like, friendly stall holders, fresh produce reasonably priced...👍🏿
M. S.
go to it Saturday at 4:00 and you'll find most of the stuff for 50p 😊
H. B.
You can get fresh fruit and vegetables, birthday and other cards and wrapping paper.
T. T.
It's great good fresh produce
V. T.
You get veggies n fruits for reasonable prices.. at closing times, they give for half prices too. The good part of this market is its location. Situated in city center. Sunday is closed.
M. H.
Very good market in centre of Leicester. Great indoor Market area also with artisan cheeses and fresh fish and meat. Well worth a visit.
K. K.
One of my favourite places in Leicester. you can find some good deals at a very low price sometimes while you can buy rotten fruits and vegetables without even noticing at other times. You need to wear a mask and gloves before going there as it's cash only. I'd recommend it to people who like observing social interaction and multicultural societies like myself. Don't forget get to drop by the fish market which is just in the opposite entrance.
Z. A.
Neat and organized, even though I didn't find what I was looking for, unfortunately.
D. W.
Fantastic value fruit and veg. Lots of fabric for sale and separate hall for meat, fish and cheese. So much more choice than at the supermarket.
Ю. К.
Lovely please. Cheap food
g. m. (.
We visited on a Saturday and we were very impressed with the fruit and veg displays. Not only the way they were displayed but also the quality and variety. Seen some comments suggesting a new location, but why....it's exactly where a traditional market should be. Overall, a very impressive city centre.
T. N.
Interesting unique vegetable and fruit open market. Price is cheap and mostly £1/bowl but sometimes quality is not great. Fish and meat market inside provides good choice of butchers and quality products.
P. e.
large selection of everything, very good prices
E. C. S.
It's an ideal market. A market for every nation and culture. Finally I feel at home, all tanks to Leicester market
s. m.
Great selection of fruit and vegetables at affordable prices. Lovely atmosphere!
I. W.
Always a great selection of fruit & veg on sale, stalls selling other non-food items can vary depending on the day / time of year. A very good permanent electrical accessories shop is present as well as Moorgate Silks an excellent dried & silk flower shop.
A. O.
Best place for fresh from farm stuff
D. E.
Before the pandemic it was a pretty filled market with quite a few decent electronics and games sellers but there gone now, there's only a few textile and fabric people now also hopefully it will pick back up when we have settled
S. M.
An interesting variety of good value fruit and vegetables. The quality can be changeable but if you are diligent you'll be fine.
s. J.
Great produce. Very reasonable prices. Indoor market cheese stall is brilliant
D. C.
Good in the past lately quality has gone downhill
B. M.
Well laid out, modern and fresh. Quality of fresh food on sale is very good. My purchase was sea bass and the and the taste was great, will be back again for more of the same
L. L.
Market Place, will give u all come talk, see 👀
K. A. B.
It's a lovely place with great stalls, however 3 stars as there are a lot of problems around with not very nice people and very little is done to ensure the market is safer than usual. Not their fault, but it would be nice to have some enforcement. Also, I've come across a fair few rude market owners.
H. B.
Great place the fish market, good for visit, other good available, cheese, meats etc
t. m. b. t. h.
The Web site is more informative to parents about the school
S. C.
Great for fresh fruit and veg. It's diverse including clothing, electrical, 2nd hand goods and material. I was there to buy material/cloth at very reasonable rates from a trader who's been there 40 years. He can tell you tales of the history if you want.
J. M.
Fresh vegetables &fruits at a very reasonable price. But the flip side is the large quantity and almost ripe fruits. For a small family it could be too much. But a great sight to see so much variety of fruits & vegetables
A. H.
It was a little empty, although it is to be expected what with covid, the parking however, well that's down right disgusting, the lord mayor in his wisdom has f#$ked up the town, taking my wife ( who's disabled) to get her hair done was very near impossible,he seems to have done away with the disable spots.
B. F.
I feel really old world buying fresh produce with my pound sterling in a lively market. And truth be told it's the best place to buy seasonal fruit and veg. Delicious and cheap. And they have all sorts of goods as well. The merchants all yell which is unusual, but it's also a fun quirk
a. k.
It's best place for buy fruits and vegetables
T. H.
Great prices for fresh produce
V. B.
Great under cover market - fantastic choice of fruit and veg with some non food stalls thrown in like Stuart's fabric stall!
S. D.
Best place to get any fresh fruit, as well as meat fish, deli, and lots lots more!
K. B.
You can buy almost anything
Fruit & veg always fresh and such a good variety I enjoy shopping there
Nowhere like it great atmosphere though times a bit hard now
B. A. M.
Market has all sorts of items like fish, vegetables, fruits ,clothes, winter wear ,shoes, umbrellas and some stationary for reasonable price.
D. P.
Proper old fashioned market - lots of noise and bustle. Good prices - though some of the fruit magically manages to go off before you get it home.
M. S.
All the vegetables are fresh and cheap. Like it there. Next time I'm visiting Leicester I'm going back to their market.
T.
Nice place, the fruits are cheaper but the quality is average only
k. b.
Was nice in older times but now getting a bit tired. The Mayor used to boast about the largest roofed market in Europe but don't think he will be repeating that. Maybe Leicester money is being spent on the wrong projects.
P. M.
A good place to get dog collars handmade
B. M.
Very good place for groceries
A. D.
Leicester market has plenty of good produce but the customer service from a few stall holders is unpleasant. Fortunely you do also find lovely stall holders like the new Italian stall holder Mr P Garcia who was friendly and had great customer service! The cherries on his stall were excellent will definitely buy from him again! 5* for Mr Garcia 4* overall.
r. j.
Really like Leicester Market great bargains to be had.. Love Leicester overall for shopping clothes, home wares everything in walking distance great day out.. 🙂
C. M.
Limited stalls out , due to the covid virus,
However a friendly vibrant atmosphere, I bought the fabric I required from " Stu's" stall.
b. l.
Its a good place to buy fruits and Vegetables but you cannot expect vegetables and fruits everyday
G. K.
Low prices for vegs and fruits
M. V.
One of the best parts about living in Leicester is the market. Tastier, cheaper and more diverse produce than can be found in the supermarket.
T. L. F.
Still enough traders through lockdown to have s good selection of fruit and veg, and at much better prices than you'll find in the supermarket.
M. D.
Nice cup of coffee friendly chat
S. S.
Lovely experience. Great deals.
B. K.
Good range and prices. Fruit and veg of the season. Careful with what you buy as some produce can be over ripe. A lot of what you buy needs to be eaten quickly.
M. F.
Very helpful staff, wide variety fresh fruit n veg along with other stuff.
R. L.
Love shopping for my Fruit and vegetables. Good quality and Prices.
Always enjoy the Banter with the stall holders.
C. P.
Excellent outdoor but under cover fruit and veg market with a varied assortment of value for money quality fruit and veg. Friendly stall holders. Busy place right in the centre of the city. Along the edges were a small assortment of other stalls including cards luggage and habberdashery. Carpets and electronics.
A. H.
Indoor meat/fish market is excellent. Fruit and veg is unfortunately not as large as it used to be so choice is reduced
T. S.
Is this still Europe's largest covered market, even after the recent adjustments? It doesn't really matter. The produce is fresh, the prices are excellent and there is a great character to the place, which is enhanced by these developments.
M. F.
Loads of empty stalls not very inviting,
l. L. m.
Obviously quieter than it has been over the years but great selection of fruit and veg brilliant meat in the meat market, fresh fish, and cheese.
F.
Best market I've been to
m. j.
Large selection of mainly fruit and veg stalls but many other goods available including, clothing, Caribbean foods and spices, greeting cards, and secondhand items,on the downside ive found heavy bags full of potatoes etc can be a bit of a lug back to the car park,it would be nice if more parking was available a bit closer
G. L.
Fresh fruit and veg. What’s not to like! This fish and meat in the indoor market are excellent quality.
C. F.
Call me a sucker but I love the market. The sight , the sounds and all the fresh produce brings the foodie out in me. Outside is an excellent fruit and veg market, the prices are very good and everything tends to be in that 'ready to eat now' stage. Inside is the meat and fish market both offering great variety , yes things can be a little pricey but you really are getting what you are paying for.
D. A. J.
Disappointed, not up to its previous std but still great for fruit veg and spices
p. e.
Always brings back memories as a kid not as good as it use to be
g. g.
Very good fruit and vegetables, excellent value, friendly service. Respect the hard working market traders. Don't handle the produce before you have bought it!!
A. P.
Not much of stores but enough for daily life.
M. C.
Superb array of fresh fish, shellfish, smoked fish, lobster and crab. Fish prepared to our liking and never any fuss.
Z. g.
Busy during the day with always to many crowds. In the evening once all stalls close it's a nice quiet spot to just relax
T. K.
Nice place to visit vegetables and fruits
j.
At the moment with the redevelopment going on it's reduced in size. What's there is mainly fruit and veg with some clothe stalls plus a few odd ball stalls. It's ok for a snoop and pretty reasonably priced in the main. Be interesting to see how it ends up once the work is finished.
G. K.
Excellent for fruit and veg, Fri or Sat afternoon. Best prices about 15.30. This is despite council efforts to destroy it.
N. A.
Empty stalls, some vendors rude
S. W.
Leicester Market has a good range of stores to choose from. Fruit and veg, leather goods, mobile phones, bags , watches, jewellery etc.. It also has a cafe. The market is covered so bad weather doesn't spoil it. Well worth a visit.
W. M.
On the plus side there is Barry's eggs and some unusual produce on some of the stalls. A goodly selection of fish and meat is to be found in the indoor market.
Nevertheless, the prices of the more common vegetables are 2-3 times that to be found in your local supermarket and, to my eye, the quality is far lower.
There are bargains to be had and discoveries to be made but check prices and remember almost everything is priced per pound. Convert to pounds per kilo and be prepared to be shocked.
K. M.
Really well stocked, great range of products with cheerful, friendly stallholders. Good service and prices far better than going to the supermarkets!!
W. H.
Just went to the bank so was only passing through. I did pick up a couple of items on the way back as the market is to good not too . you do need to try the indoor market as you will find the best sausages enywhere. The stall opposite the fish stall sausages contains no water and fat when i cook them in the grill nothing has run out of them. You can bulk buy and get 30 thick sausages for £ 8.25 so much better and you can get many flavours. Bargain.
A. N.
Leicester market was one of my favourite place to shop for fruits and vegetables. Since leaving Leicester I returned to the market after almost 10 years, but still it has the old buzz somewhat bit muted. The sound of vendors shouting "pound a ball... pound a ball" sounds familiar...
D. M.
Not the very best considering the current covid situation. They need to make the place and the stall more appealing to attract people. Its all very doom.and gloom.down there. Fishmongers are also pricey.
Y. P.
Excellent service. Always a pleasure to visit...friendly old fashioned barbers. Good value.
s. e.
Excellent market where you can get fresh products on a budget. Being chipped away at bit by bit by the council.
Use it or lose even more of it!
S. G. G.
Good groceries from around Leicester. Better prices than in supermarkets and everything very fresh and appealing! Not only fruit and veggies, also prepared meals and some stalls have old or second hand items. Very recommended to buy regularly to support local producers and farmers.
A. S.
A gem in the heart of Leicester. The outdoor area is very popular and extremely well-stocked. Tasty and fresh fruits, vegetables (exotic ones included) can be purchased at very reasonable prices. The outdoor area also includes stocking of furniture and household items. The indoor area is perfect to purchase delicious and affordable meats, poultries and seafood.
M. W.
Got some good quality meat from Sykes butchers definitely worth a visit
K.
Few empty stalls which is a shame but the fruit and veg are always a good buy and its handy for other goods as well cards bags flowers fabrics etc . A fun place where you can have a laugh with most of the stall holders.
B. R.
We get vegetables and fruits at affordable price. A bit cheaper than supermarkets... Like Tesco, Asda, Lidl, Aldi etc.,
J. P.
Very good for fruit and vegetables. But don't last long time. I always buy enough for day or two.
K. B.
Sadly Leicester is slowly shrinking from the largest market that it was a few years ago, but still very worth a visit. One of the few places with s great selection of fruit veg, and a fish and meat market too.
D. O.
I love going to the market i go to my regular stalls for my fruit and rizlas every week just about ive been doing it for yrs and they are all so helpfull and respectable they always know wat i want and remind me incase i forgot something and always ask how i am i would tell all friends to go there keep it up guys ur doing a great job xx
K. H.
I like this market in Leicester when we go to visit my wife's relatives I always visit the market it can get a bit busy but if you go early it is not crowded.
M. S.
they fixed my bike perfectly, he is very helpful person
M. A. H.
This market has lots of variety in different types of products. For example, fruit, vegetables, fabrics, jewellery and electronics. Can get really busy and is not ideal for wheelchair users as there not much room to drive around.
D. C. l. U. K.
Leicester market is a treasure trove of different fresh fruits and locally produced.
Definitely worth being one of the oldest markets in England!
P. S.
The best market in the uk, if you want rizlas they have, shoes boots trainers also, need a new video game they have, and the freshest ripest fruit and veg, there is something for everyone, love Leicester market x
N. D.
Jb it's been a while since I visited the market on a Friday! It was ok but I can understand with our current situation. The marketiers are pleasant as usual and I purchased really good material. On the whole it was nice.
J. C.
Have been purchasing fruit and veg here all my life. Our children have continued the tradition. Looking a little tired around the edges especially with the building work around and local rough sleepers leaving bedding in doorways. Hopefully many more years shopping ahead.
d. m.
Traditional outdoor covered market just outside the town hall, with a very new modern fish market next door. Lovely 'lanes' area nearby with quirky shops and pubs.
S. S.
Quiet at the moment due to Covid-19 but still a few stalls selling quality fruit and veg.Bought some delicious grapes.
S. I. I.
So happy the fruit market is back, amazing value for money.
c. b.
Always great to shop around our iconic market great quality fruit and veg at great prices well worth a visit
G. B.
Good fruit and veg, fair prices, definitely worth the money.
Z. I.
If you want fresh and the best fruits and vegetables at very low price then this the best place to go for. The only disadvantage of this place is that you need to bring cash with you as card payment is not available here.
C. E.
Poor market and too many homeless there
J. R.
Bloody decent market better than any I have been to in the uk. Huge range of choice and not bad prices. Some of the stalls can sell food that seems to go off by the next morning so beware and remember who does stock good food.
Check out gems like Ashmore butchers in the indoor market absolute class butchers!
B. P.
A good market with a variety of goods available large vegetables section as well
K. M.
Leicester market is the best market i have been to for food products. It is the biggest outdoor roofed market in europe selling superb fruit and veg, and there is also an indoor market selling fresh fish, meat, bread and a whole host of deli produce. well worth a try if you have not been before.
H. J.
It's a pleasant sheltered market with varieties of fruits and vegetables, also nick nacks.
b.
No social distancing and traders lick the carrier bags
V. k. k.
A public and heritage market with variety of local fruits , vegetables and some clothing and daily use items.
N. L.
Leicester market is a very well stocked market which sells all sorts of things from fruit and veg, clothes, fresh flowers, leather items, bags and phone stalls. One of the best markets I've been too. All the stall holders seem to be very friendly and there's a coffee shop inside too. Easily accessible.
P. O.
I was Born &Bread in Leicester, So as Leicester Market is the, Largest Open aired Covered Market in Europe, so it is always a pleasure to visit it.
A. K.
You can find fresh vegetables here
D. P.
Love the hustle, bustle & vibe from this place. The atmosphere, traders, people & fresh fruit/vegetable smell is like no other shopping experience.
No website can ever provide this uniqueness! Long live markets 👌
R. W.
It is a good place to come to 👍
D. M.
Excellent Market,
First visit to the Market on a Trip to Leicester and found the Market had loads of Fruit stalls among other stalls. Stall holders were friendly and there was a good and clean atmosphere.
T. J.
Amazing outdoor market which also happens to be one of the largest open air markets in Europe. The produce is vast and fresh and there is a lively hustle and bustle to the atmosphere. There is an endearing 'going back in time' feel to it. Worth a visit.
M. M.
Leicester Market is one of the oldest Markets. Been going for hundred of years. All varieties of vegetables, fruit, card stalls, flowers, brick a brack, handbags, clothes. Just to mention a few things you can buy at this brilliant Market. Well worth a visit if you are here on a Day Trip. Or if you live in Leicester. Also got the Fish Market and Meat Market there. Everything you could possibly need.
C. B.
Extremely good for all your vegetables and some other products.
One of the best markets I've been in for years.
The big supermarkets Tesco's Waitrose Morrisons Aldi and Lidl should send their buyers to have a look at the quality and the amount of different vegetables and fruit and quality of the vegetables they may get it right after that? That's if their buyers can be bothered to get out their offices and have a look at the quality that people do sell.
I Totally recommend a visit you'll be surprised. And enjoy the experience.
M. I.
The Leicester market is the best place to get quality fruit and vegetables in Leicester at very competitive prices.Fish market.
Leicester Market is a market in The City of Leicester, England, on Market Place just south of the clock tower. It is around 800 years old and was moved to the current site around 700 years ago. It is the largest outdoor covered market in Europe. It is open Monday to Saturday 7am - 6pm and has over 270 stalls.
M. u.
We used to go every week leicester market. From last visit I am thinking do me to go or no because most of place is empty.
A. P.
Leicester's hidden gem! The market has everything you'd expect from fresh fruit and veg to some of the best fish, meat and cheese vendors in the city. And at FANTASTIC prices.
C. K.
Indoor butchers nice clean good prices for tray of meat bought sirloin steak rump steak pork loin steaks 2 trays 10 pound then onto market for my veg same as any supermarket
J.
Quite a few stalls today..quite busy.shame though ..its not anywhere near as big as it used to be and some of the stall holders have gone due to the rent being whacked up to high. I think this could have all been thought out a lot better.
C. S.
Leicester Market is a great place for food shopping, the new development for meat section is great, the outdoor part for fruit and veg is getting a little old but what makes the market so great are the people that work there and the atmosphere is great. Alot of seating areas outside with a few good decent takeway joints.
C. A.
Love the fruit and veg market where produce is displayed in bowls.
N. M.
Brilliant meat and fish hall where they are happy to sell just one sausage or rasher of bacon if need be.
The outdoor covered market great value fruit and veg with plenty of friendly banter.
Who needs soulless supermarkets...
S. G.
Good place to buy fruits, vegetables in cheap price. Quality is not that great but very good
J. D.
Very healthy by its produce and its like a little own village by that i mean they are very friendly it is a part of Leicester's history
A. P. s.
Nice place and every one can buy what they want with low price
j. w.
Excellent fruit and vegetable selection. Inside market, although smaller than it used to be, has a great variety of raw meat, cooked meat, cheeses and fish.
F. P.
Iots of fresh produce reasonably priced.
P. R.
What a super market place. We didn't recognise some of the vegetables on offer but busy, patient stall holders helped us out.
It's all there from green cardamoms to a cover I found for near-obsolete mobile phone.Very highly recommend.
S. A.
Your best place for fresh fruits and veggies, at lesser price
T. T.
A big variety of fresh fruits and vegetables at very cheap prices. If you are a fan of exotic fruits here there is quite .
I recommend it 👍
N. C.
Will only go to the Market if I want artificial flowers. Encourage anyone wanting similar buy at MOORGATE SILKS stall. The standard of the flowers and wreaths etc is excellent and very reasonably priced. See my photos of the layout of the stall and a vase of their fabulous roses. 3 stars for the Market which is not as good as it was in its hey day,5 stars for MOORGATE SILKS
N. B.
Having not been here for maybe 30 years, but with memories of a fantastic market, I revisited with trepidation.
I needn't have worried. It's amazing, still. You can get almost anything there, and the produce is a astoundingly cheap.
I'm well travelled, and yet I think it's fair to say that this is the best market in the country. Well done Leicester.
N. C.
Did one of our weekly shops in Leicester and although most shops are shut, some market stalls & the excellent indoor fish market were open.
M. G.
First time in Leicester, decent size market, good prices and plenty of things to choose from.
S. B.
You have to wonder what it's for. Other than the Christmas market, which apparently was so poorly marketed in regards of the new location that a lot of traders aren't planning to come back this year, can't say I can recall anything being on there.
I'd have thought the council would be trying to attract traders and events if only to recoup some of the costs of the development
P.
Great place to get fresh fruit and veggies :). Short walk from parking (avoid GS Parking it's a scam)
R. D.
Hi I enjoy going to the Leicester Market I find the stall holders friendly and very helpful For example today I wanted half of a cucumber not a whole one A few stalls only had whole ones I asked one of the stall holders and he told me which stall always has some half cucumbers So not only do they help customers they also help each other
J. S.
Traditional fruit and veg market atmosphere with stallholders shouting their prices. Excellent quality produce in the heart of the city and best covered market in Europe.
s.
EVERYTHING is a bargain at Leicester Market.
The variety of great fruit and veg is just amazing , people are friendly and atmosphere is Great.
D. D.
Lots of bargains to be had . Great selection of fruit and veg. Also great indoor fish and meat market. Several cheese counters too.
M. D.
Miss this place. Lots of memories here
T. S.
I think pork is cheap. £5 /kg for lean meat. Meat only mutton£10/kg. Small ripe papaya 3 for 50p.
L. S.
Got there as the place opened, found everything we needed. Very impressed by the quality of the seafood.
I. I.
Fresh, amazing vegetables and fruits. Lovely sellers which can always advice with the best choice.
m. b.
I really enjoy the market, great fish stalls, fresh meat, hams, cheeses, veg and fruit all there. Love it if the fruit and veg did not sell from bowls.
A. V. H.
I love market everyday something different, but always fresh fruits, veggies, seafood, meat. You can even on a good day get good prices for sheets, pillows, hand bags, etc.
K. R. J. W.
Leicester! Sure, it's a city, but it's a city with a lot to be proud off. They claim to have something for everybody & I can vouch for this 1st hand. If you're like me, into confectionery + hair accessories, then you'll be impressed with the choices before you. They've got an utterly brilliant selection off fruit & vegetable Market stalls, that are verry, verry cheap + really good quality! Verry accessible by public transport & with plenty to sitting areas,, if you need to take a break (rest). To be honest with you, it's 1 off my all time favourite cities in the world, as there's a rich mix off market stalls & people who run them. Leicester, please don't change, you're doing it just right! :D
R. C.
Growing up the one thing i realised is, That they're always full of lufe and cheer selling vegetables and Fruits shouting over the crowd to sell them off, At one time i actually painted the hussle and bussle of the busy market.
R. S.
Leicester Market is unusual as the is open 6 days a week. An eclectic mix of stalls can be found. Buttons and fabrics, fruit and vegetables and 2nd hand goods too. Plus a variety of others including clothing, bags and footwear. The stalls are covered by a roof, but exposed to the weather on all sides. Fresh fish and meat has it's own enclosed area. The market place is also surrounded by other retail shops. A coffee shop can be found on the NE corner.
C. S.
Not as busy as last time visited but still like an old fashionable market stall holders calling out prices etc
Y. A. A.
Definitely good place for fresh veges and fruits..can't be missed.
W. B.
Great variety and a friendly place
J. T.
This market offers a wide range of products across it's stalls (outside of the Covid-19 lockdowns) and most of the items across the stalls are reasonably priced
I. M.
What a superb market we have in Leicester - brilliant
V. S.
Good place for local shopping and dinning.
P. P. T.
Big open space, lots of stall to choose from. Nice walk a round.
d. b.
What can i say? Like any other convenience store. Social distancing regulations in place. Full shelves. Not busy. Felt safe.
K. D.
First visit for us, not as big or varied as we'd hoped but there was a good selection of fruit and veg amongst other things.
S. F. v. M.
Since knocking down the dreadful 70 monstrous Indoor Market which has made way for the new Market Square as well as the Ultra Sleek New Indoor Market not only is Leicester Market a Place to shop but a New Tourist Attraction and another Great addition to the City!! Can't wait to see the Completion of all 3 Phases of Regeneration of this Leicester Institution!!
L. H.
One of the oldest markets in Britain. Still hear the calls for fresh fruit....get your potatoes etc. Colourful wares and characters. Love it ❤️
K. C.
Amazing place - the best market in the UK by far!
M. C.
Loved it and they had an Italian cheese Picorino Romano, which I couldn't find anywhere.
M. M.
I love walking among the fruit and vegetables stalls, haggle with the vendors whenever I am not in a hurry. The place is an institution in Leicester. Well liked by the locals
P. C. D.
One of the best open air markets in the country. Some stalls a mix and match. The covered meat and fish market superb. The rest of the city open for visiting from this site.
H. D.
Food fresh fruits vegetables & general household items at well the market price.
B. G.
Very sad to see the market so empty of stalls.
And all the works going on made it very hard to know how to get through.
B. R.
If you live in Leicester or have reason to shop for vegetables, then this is the place to visit.
Close to the Haymarket shopping center, the din will probably drown out all attempts at conversation, as sellers try to attract your attention by offering their wares at attractive rates.
If good, fresh vegy and fruit and great prices is what you are after, go no further. Yeah, carry a bag of course !
G. H.
Unfortunately the open market wasn't fully open when we visited but the indoor fish and meat market is amazing
H. H.
The parking is very affordable and the parking system is convenient and intuitive.
Z. A.
Cheap fruits and vegetable. You can get good quality clothes, bags, shoes, rugs, blankets, quilts, pillows, phone accessories, electronics, utensils etc all for a bargain.
G. U.
Good place to get some fruits and vegetables! Sometimes fresh and sometimes not so fresh
M.
I think 3 stars would have been enough, but for me coming from an area in London where there is no market, I find this Leicester market a very nice institution and I hope it will never close down, I found white and purple broccoli sprouts of very good quality and at a very good price, spinach, potatoes and all the products which I believe come from local farms. Even the grapes although not locally produced was Half the price of what I pay at the london supermarket, yet of very good quality . The fishmonger in the covered building side is very good (for U.K. Standards) also the cheeses.... brilliant displays. If I lived there I would shop there regularly. Support your local community guys, ditch the big supermarkets for sone items.
N. S.
Disappointing. Looking back at what Leicester Market was and what it is today, I am sorry I went back to visit. It spoiled all the fond memories and bargains acquired. There used to be a sense of comfort and friendliness between stall holders and shoppers alike, this has been replaced by the draughty, cold and somewhat sterile atmosphere which now prevails. No more "bargain" hunting, just plain shopping.
I. O.
Affordable food stuff n fresh
L. S.
Such varied and wide variety of everything from watches to rugs, fruit and veg everywhere, amazing meat food hall. Just love the place
H. D.
reasonable price for reasonable fruits, need to be consumed within a day or two
J. S.
so cool
A. K.
From fish to vegetables you can find a wide variety of healthy fresh produce
M. J.
Good value fruit, veg, spices. £1 a bowl
J. A.
Such a great market, I Love visiting the fish counters, it's well worth the journey for some lovely fishy treats
S. g.
I love it there good fruit and snack stalls and indoor meat and cheese Market
H. S.
I think the weekend is the time they have the most variety. Alot if road works and other works going on around the market so it is hard to get around with a car. They need to arrange short term parking for people who want to vist
A. D. W.
It is an nice place. There are fresh fruit and vegetables are avilable. On the top of that everything is very cheap.you will be surprised when you will go for shopping or eating out.
B. D.
Fantastic for fruit and veg, friendly traders, quality produce, busy, don't go too late or some things may be sold out
w. t.
Visiting from London n this market made me surprise. Biggest ever market i ever have seen. Hundreds of stalls for fruit, veg, clothes, crafts, arts n many more. U have plenty of choices under one roof.
P. H.
The largest of its kind in Europe but could do with being a little more European, larger variety of produce and more eateries and drinks stalls - if it had the content of some European Markets it would be the best market in Europe
A. B.
Fresh fruit, vegs and an interesting multicultural atmosphere.. The meat and fish stalls are incredible, you can find lots of variety!
J. R.
Love going to Leicester market. Fruit and veg - great prices and such a great selection. Stall holders friendly and cheerful!
Q. A.

N. S. K.
Great place to local produced food and other stuff but it misses its one star because it's not that clean. Although great place for doing your groceries.
Q. s.
As council have a plan to fix the market for a better place and have lots of more different stuff... alto of older age people comes here for shopping but I would also recommend it for younger people there lots of stuff that you can get alot cheaper then anywhere else...

The market is great but you should see it at night with all the homeless using it as a toilet ... puts you off. The meat and fish bit is 5* though
W. L.
Great place to buy fresh fruit and veg
J. L.
Very good meet and fixe
C. B.
The market was closed today but I came before lockdown, and was able to purchase a selection of what I wanted.

S. E. C.
leicester market is not what it was 40 years ago when i came to leicester. i was looking for veg plants last wed. there was only 1 plant stall where as years ago on wed there was loads. dont like the fruit and veg in bowls stalls that sell loose can still be found
T. L.
The City of Leicester has had a market for hundreds of years and was granted a Market Charter 800 years ago. It's Outdoor Market has been on it's site for 700 years. It is the largest covered outdoor market in Europe (bar none).
It is a great place to go to buy inexpensive fresh fruit and vegetables - both domestic and exotic - brought daily from Leicester Wholesale Market or wholesalers further afield.
It has 270 stalls whose traders sell a wide variety of goods, particularly fruit and vegetables (both domestic and exotic) but also flowers, new and vintage clothing, second-hand books, dvds and vinyl records, collectibles, bric-a-brac, jewellery. It also has a number of permanent units which sell new clothes, cosmetics, greetings cards, pet products and a specialist foam trader as well as drapers and haberdashers and two cafés.
It's well worth a visit if you're in the area - you never know what you'll discover!
R. S.
Brilliant fish stand and young man who served us was both knowledge and friendly
S. A.
Love the market place its amazing they have different varieties
W. T.

Nice and cheap also.
I. S.
Excellent for fruit and veg. Buy ripe, buy cheap. Meay and fish area had very good cheese and bread stall.
E. H.
Great place to visit.
G. M.
This place is THE PLACE. Fresh fruit and veg - everything is a quid. EVERYTHING. BOWL OF MANGOS £1. BOWL OF LIMES - £1. I have so many limes now. More limes than I really need. Makes Asda and Morrisons seem like some sort of capitalist charade of decadent pricing. There's other stuff like jewellery and clothing, but stick to the fruit & veg and you can't go wrong.
J. C.
"Hungry Dog" where you can get Jacket spuds with fillings,Bacon, sausage cobs.Hot dogs, chips,Tea&Coffee, pop. Still good. But The Bad News IS it's Closed.
S. L.
Fantastic place, the food hall is Leicesters hidden gem. Forget the superstores and support the privateers.
R. T. (.
Not many stalls today.
B. J.
Plenty of fruit veg to choose from but have to shop around there as ive found some products dont have the best shelf life.

G. F.
I like this market, the items (fruit, vegetables) are fresh, you can buy there I think everything.
S. b.
Great market and people are very welcome.
T. T.
Average. Looks very old and there was only one fishmonger with subpar hygiene. Not appreciated during these times of staying alert and contains the spread.....
S. P.
Great but it's not same. Empty stalls. Pls, pls LCC don't run it down. Obviously Covid-19 doesn't help.
S. B.
Hi my name is Ms Sue Birchenall 😎👍. And I think that Leicster marketing is one of the best markets you can find plus there is a great indoor market meat and fish 🐷🐑🐄🐡🦀🦐👍. Well that's all for now yours truly Ms Sue Birchenall 😎👌.

Not as good as it used to be. Really run down, it's obvious the council aren't maintaining it.
M. G.
Multi cultural shopping at its best. If you want it, there is a good chance you will find it.
