Much better than the ones in town centre and cheaper, but convenient enough to be central for all. It has a huge range and is not as ridiculously priced as the ones closer to the uni... owners are freindly family run business that we know from frequenting here over the years. Parking is a nightmare but it's definitely not this places fault ... there are numerous offices garment factories and mot places on this street and it is incredibly busy.

This supermarket may be small it but is a fantastic little gem tucked away right at the cusp of the city centre. They have a good range of different spices, lentils, noodles, sauces and lots of other products for your cooking needs. The prices are good and very reasonable. I would highly recommend this place.

After living in Thailand for many years, was a bind finding everything that my daughter (12 yars old) and me loved and missed, after trying many shops finally found somewhere that has everything we need. Helpful, friendy staff, good price too, everyones a winner..

Authentic oriental spices, sauces, condiments, fresh vegetables, good oriental meats, other food stuffs, drinks, cutlery, cooking equipment with a great frozen food section; perfect for the at home dim sum cooking. It may be a small looking supermarket but it packs a lot (or "pack a punch" :) ) They also cater for trade as well as they have the larger quantities at the top of the shelves and at the back store room. Prices are on par with the rest of the chinese supermarkets. Some items are a little more expensive but nothing to be too concerned about. Service is friendly, warm and welcoming. Do not expect one of the other larger chinese supermarkets interior setups. This place is stocked from floor to ceiling and crammed full of delights. Only downside is that it's cash only, so make sure you have cash with you. Would I go back again: Yes.

You will find almost any ingredients for making any Chinese food and other Asian recipes here. They sell stuff in competitive price, if not the cheapest, I would say, compare to other Chinese store in Leicester I have ever visited. For Indonesian who miss the taste of our hometown, you will also find sambal ABC and terasi, and tempeh... 😊 in this store (it's hard to find them in other places)

there isn't anything bad about this place. it has lots of different well known chinese and Malay brands. if you don't know what you need they will always help. parking is hit and miss. takes a while to work out the opening hours. the other chinese store of equivalent is far more expensive but easier to park.

Across the road from Leicester college, beside Stride next to Belgrave flyover , the first shop on Melton street is the oldest original Chinese/Oriental supermarket opened in Leicester . If you love Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese, Thai, Indonesian, Malaysian.. all kinds of Asian food or snacks, and you've never goggled up a recipe of your favourite dish and go to Tai Fat find all your experimental substances (cooking ingredients) and play Master chief on your free day... you are missing out ! Tai Fat is the pronunciation translated from " 大發 " which means " Major Release " as far as my limited Chinese can understand. It is not subliminal suggestion for you to get fat (even it could be a likely consequence for all the delicious temptations you will discover). This is just one of those funny relative translations. It's not exactly a fancy store with latest flashy advertisement and marketing tools .. There is an authentic traditional atmosphere as you walk through the front door . You are directly faced with all the best ingredients , snacks , fresh selections as well as frozen ready to heat foods . I like the "what you see is what you get" feeling in this shop . No nonsenses or selling gimmicks, plenty sauces, for best home cook oriental meals whisked up in no time. Most Chinese takeaways, restaurants gather their ingredients from there , which shows me if I want to be a super oriental cook , I am at the right place . I must admit.. I do spend far too long in there going through every little thing, and piratically always want to buy the whole shop . Anyway . Good luck ! Have fun .
