Reviews of Herne Hill Market

Very interesting busy Sunday street market. Found the Brazilian stand selling Brazilian snacks very good. So was the French potato/chicken/creamy stand. Open air coming there, to hungry walkers to Brockwell Park. Worth browsing this small market with a variety of stands, and some live music today. Great
J. S.
Rather a middle-class market with lots of independent bakers, food stalls and knick-knacks. Having said that a lot of the stuff there is very nice, if expensive. I think I saw a fruit and veg stall somewhere there but I might have been mistaken.
A. A.
You forget you're in London in this market - there's such a friendly village vibe to it. The quality of the stalls is fantastic and theres everything from cheeses to cakes to clothes. Also multiple vegan options for both hot and cold food which is great.
I. I.
Best farmers market ever! Amazing food, beautiful craft
A.
A lovely Sunday market that offers a variety of food and drink, as well as fresh produce and clothing stalls.
Notable highlights include the banh mi from Vietvan (wonderful staff and food - image 1) and the organic beef burgers from Jacob’s Ladder (image 2).
It is popular amongst locals and has a nice vibe. There are some seats to stop and eat your food - plus there is also the park to take a stroll and eat.
A. S.
Lots of nice stalls, and nice vendors, but not that many so saw everything very quickly
J. M.
Great market selling lots of different foods and coffees in a trendy neighbourhood with lots of happy people.
d. y.
It's a local market, since covid etc it's had the stuffing knocked out of it a bit but is comin back with some great regular stalls. Looking forward to it getting back to its bustling old self
P. L.
This is a bit posh nowadays but make no mistake... You can get some seriously yummy street food here!
Y. H.
I love it in here! Such a great vibe, many stalls and great people always willing to help you.
A. R.
The market is great but had a bad experience in a stall that sells Japanese food, its name is Fuse Osaka LTD. The Karaage chicken was dry and tasteless, and they charge £11 for this...
M. C.
Lovely little farmers market with some crafts and furniture. But mainly this is all about the food. Sweet, savoury, butchers or vegan, there's something for everyone, plenty of samples to pick at, and a personal favourite chorizo stall. Take cash. And go hungry.
T. F.
Great market, lovely vibes , good selection
P. H.
This Sunday market has a variety of stalls from the ubiquitous cheese and bread stalls to arts and crafts and home made chocolates via bric a brac and freshly cooked foods. Much bigger in size than the nearby Brockley and Venn St Saturday markets.
Literally right outside Herne Hill station, this place is for some reason confusingly also called, "Tulse Hill Market" by people, confusing the two close SE London hills, next to Brockwell Park.
M. o. Y.
Herne Hill Sunday market is an event! great selection of stalls, who are mostly consistently there every week. Do miss the brother&sister butchers, and veg stall but glad egg man survived the covid exodus. There are always new food stalls popping up, but some of the best are the crepe team, Ethiopian vegan stall, scotch egg stall and the guy that sells Pastéis de nata!
A. S.
Great weekend market - Get your bike fixed, get fresh fish and loads of food stalls. Recommend Cakehole from the stalls.
Sesame is a permanent shop front which does great Greek-Cypriot food, and coffees. Agile Rabbit also wicked for coffee, pizza and cakes. Blackbird inevitably has a queue, but delicious pastries.
A. N.
Nice variety. Choices of pastries to farmers market vegetables and fruits. Plenty of coffee shops to pick from and juices too. There is now a one way system in place as before it was all just free flowing and could be a bit daunting. Recommend grabbing a ice coffee and something to snack on and head to Brockwell Park for a stroll or a sit
P. N.
Loved the food, but quite busy. Missed some of them like the popcorn and butter ones.
S.
Fab little market that sells local patisseries, breads, cheeses, and the like. It isn't very big but it's lovely to see then you could take your purchases for a picnic in Brockwell Park across the road.
e. v.
Small market with amazing variety and foods to chose from.
D. K.
Friendly market with a different kind of stuff being sold! Great food, beautiful jewellery and exquisite flowers! Must try: Apple juice and some Carribean food!
P. S.
Great market.. love it for the community and great people and lovely fresh food from all the stalls..been getting hooked on the excellent quality of the fish and meat stalls.. always awesome service from everyone..thanks everyone..xx👍👍🥰🥰
S. A.
Busy. Not much evidence of social distancing. Most stall holders had a notice asking people to wear masks but again few customers did.
BUT a lovely market selling food, drink, jewellery and odd bits. Just small (Sunday) but a lovely atmosphere and worth a visit Friendly stall holders. First visit but look forward to going again.
S. A.
Great doughnuts and snacks to pick up along with cheeses and stuff like that. Less variety when it comes to actual meals but still a few bits around. Good savoury pastries around.
r. b.
There's a good variety of stalls ranging from pottery and records to fresh hot food and artisan bread. Ther pop up bicycle repair shop provides an essential service to an area where the bike shop are really oversubscribed. I strongly recommend Cake Hole, whose baked cheese cake is devine.
Z. W.
This is a very busy market. Some very good stalls especially the Ethiopian food stall and the Dim Sum stall. Its not a cheap market but on the whole you get good quality stuff. The vegetable stall is not bad. Nice variety of vegetables. Lovely stall selling sheepskin products from Poland. Love the warm bedroom slippers. I have promised to get myself a pair at some stage.
J. L.
Nice little market, quite a few choices of mostly organic meals, delicious bread being sold (tried quite a few already) as well as continental meats and cheeses. There are a few cafes around too.
I normally go there before 11am to avoid crowds.
N.
Delicious looking cake bread stalls but no perspex glass in place, the kids were at the right height to be practically breathing onto the doughnuts, cupcakes, bread etc, we bought bread from the one stall that did have the partition in place. Please guys, cover the food or put a partition in place, it's so unhygienic
W. W.
Nice little market with plenty of food stalls and some independent retailers.
E. H.
Great variety of stalls and live music over the Rd too. I would go again.
There was a fresh veg stall and a farmers market selling fish and fresh milk. Every Sunday
T. B.
So much of choice and very well organised
R. M.
Great options, right by the station, I had a ban mi and a churro, it was all delicious!!
i. K.
Nice little Sunday market with some trendy shops and cafes in the same area. Some very good gastro pubs, great restaurants and bars all on the same area. The park opposite is also really nice, particularly the walled garden. A great Sunday can be had in Herne Hill.
C. G.
Its a popular Sunday market
Very well supported.
Talented vendors display a variety of hand made items.
Lots of fresh fruit and veg also fresh meat and fish. Plenty of cooked food to take away or if you prefer dine at one of the eateries.
E. A.
Such a great market with a selection of handmade products and delicious food stalls. Love this place!
I. d. m.
A wonderful resource.
Combined with our great local butchers and green grocers you could do your whole weekly shop here. Lots of fresh fruit and veg; good meat and fish stalls; and, great selections of baked goods. There's also a couple of really good cheese stalls.
If you are just after an alternative to sunday lunch there are loads of options. I love the tartiflette even if my heart may suffer.
Snacks include sausage sandwiches, dumplings etc.
O. F.
Nice Market with a variety of fresh foods stands (veg, meats and fish) and a large variety cooked foods! There's also some bike repair guys there too usually which is handy. Love the coffee stand.
W. S.
Lovely local market for living the south London dream!
l. h.
For someone who prefers bootsales this a really nice market; whether it be food clothes or something for your pets, it's a cool place. Can be pricey but that's Herne hill for you, not to mention brockwell park on your door step
J. W.
Loved it! Great range of craft and gift stalls, fresh food and cooked food stalls. I think from November it's only fresh food, no craft stalls or cooked food but I could be wrong
S. O.
Lovely Sunday neighborhood market! Lots of nice food, cake and coffee stalls plus some beautiful jewellery, clothing and craft items. Just outside of the train station if you're traveling and across from Brockwell park, with lots of nice pubs, shops and cafés in the local area.
S. M.
Such a great neighborhood market with everything you could wish for from fresh produce to baked goods to handmade trinkets and more. Well worth a weekend visit.
A. C.
Great little market outside Herne Hill station, open on Sundays. You can get food, coffee, fresh vegetables, clothes and stuff for your home here so good for browsing if you're in the area.
Food ranges from tartiflette, curries to raw salads and cakes.
If you love dogs, there are lots around most of the time so an added bonus!
E. C.
Great vibe on a Sunday. Lots of artisan food stalls and some clothes and sunglasses. A local treasure
c.
Cute market, not really a farmers market (no fruit or veg that I could see). Very busy and stalls selling out by 2:30pm. Come in morning I think!
K. N.
Awesome local Sunday street market. You can get everything from artisan cheeses and handmade chocolates to vintage clothes and records. The main market street is lined with bars and cafes which are a great place to rest tired feet and people watch. Bring cash as not all vendors accept cards and expect premium prices for premium quality fare.
P. B.
Had lots of great food. Have to go back soon. It was worth the 30Km round trip walk!
L. T.
I wasn't sure if I'd be allowed in to the area at first, my names not Jeremy and I don't have skinny jeans and a beard. There's a decent selection of food to enjoy along with a few other trinkets. It's only a small market, but not too bad.
S. M.
Great market supporting local businesses (not just food!). Only downside is it gets very crowded, which isn’t ideal during a pandemic.
J. Z.
This is a true neighborhood market, with a combination of fresh produce, meat, cheese, bread and take away food. Next to one of the best parks in London, Brockwell, so great idea to hit up the FM and picnic.
P. T.
Lovely market with lots of treats😊
M. J. C.
It's great little place to spend a sunny afternoon.. Grab a coffee, go for a walk in Brockwell park.. Build up an appetite.. Grab something from the market or if lucky to get a table head over to Cafe Provençal for that much needed food option and natter with your bestie xx
A. M.
First time I've ever been and it was compact with a nice selection of stalls, bought my eggs but but when I got home 5 of them shells cracked as I tried to use them 😞 but it didn't spoil a nice Sunday morning.
B. B.
This weekly Sunday market is a SE London gem.
Great atmosphere, lovely local spirit. Lots of fruit and veg stalls, bread and pastries, fresh fish and seafood, fine cheeses, eggs and honey, home made baby clothes, antiques, cakes and more cakes, coffee, organic meat. Several 'street food' stalls too, including katsu curry, delicious fresh popcorn, beef burgers and - always popular - healthy, and very tasty, vegetarian salad boxes and wraps (hummus, pulses, salads etc). Even a popup bicycle repair shop!
B. L.
I love this place. Get the Ethiopian food. Get all the cheese. Great deals if you come near the end of the day. Beautiful park and pubs nearby. A favourite.
L. M.
Just get off at Herne Hill Station the market is right there! A small market open every Sunday approx 10am - 3pm. Lots of interesting stores & great for foodies. Lots of local cafes & shops are also open.
D. B.
Has expanded quite a fair bit since I lived in the area five years ago. Reminds me of a more local Maltby. Interesting vendors with a good selection of products (fruit, veg, butcher, food stalls, baked goods). And a lovely walk in Brockwell Park can easily follow a wander through the market.
M. B. T.
The Herne Hill Market, an essential part of Herne Hill and the Brockwell park community, offers a wide range of takeaway food, fruit and vegetables, meats, cheeses, cakes, treats and clothes from local and small businesses. Particular recommendation for "La Tartiflette", the Bath Cheese Co and Sweet Carolina cakes.
S. A.
I've been living in Herne Hill for a couple of years and I love it. In particular, I love the bit in front of the station which is a pedestrian area. On Sunday there is a local market in which you can find all sort of good food, from sausages to cheese or lovely cakes. I recommend the rocket + stilton burger :P
R. T.
It's OK, pretty small. I wouldn't go out of my way to go there. But if you are passing it has a few good stalls worth visiting.
N. K.
Great local market, mainly interesting food stalls with some good little craft stalls. On a sunny Sunday it's ideal for grabbing picnic materials
W. M.
Agile rabbit pizza and baked and raised donut is the perfect Sunday lunch combo
B. S.
Something to do in herne hill on Sundays. Varied, not just food, but lots of fairly expensive organic farm produce mostly of very high quality. Some vintage clothes and bric a brac. Reasonable ethnic rugs and unusual house plants, I grew a herne hill pineapple! Best coffee in SE24. Very good for people and dog watching.
D. D.
Absolutely love the Sunday food options. Feels local, not crowded, and delicious food. Also a beautiful neighbourhood with loads of cafes.
G. G.
A really trendy farmer's market. I would advise trying a couple of the foods on offer - and there are plenty of cheeses, breads, and meats to buy. Probably not worth travelling far for; but if you're in the area check it out.
R. M.
Worth a visit on a Sunday afternoon!
S. C.
Lovely atmosphere and fresh local products. Great for veggie, but try to get there in the morning to grab the best fruit and vegetables!
K. S.
Hot lunches, prepared food, vegetables, cheeses, lemonade, and meat at many very good stalls. Furniture, clothes and sunglasses also at local vendors' stalls. Shops, cafes and florist are open around the marketplace.
C. P.
Small, and perfectly local even if a tad expensive really, then again, it's herne hill. Don't even if you can't handle proto-hipster bourgeoisie. Good produce though, and in the summer, the perfect place to get your picnic essentials for the park.
A. P.
Excellent choices and value for a range of dietary requirements. I am gluten free and there are always plenty of options to choose from for a tasty and (relatively) inexpensive lunch!
M. D.
Fantastic Sunday market with fairly good variety! Regular stalls include: fish, cheese, jam, brownies & cookies, popcorn, and many others. Lots of good stuff.
g. u.
Very nice farm market with organic beautiful products, a bit pricey though
m. B.
Mixed bag. No hot food today. But lots of bakery items. One way system, but crowded
C. L.
It's a great place to do your weekly food shopping. Also, there are plenty crafts and vintage stalls to browse through.
P. S.
Lovely market. Wish there was a bit more hot food available.
S. G.
Great food market, particularly Saba's Taste of Ethiopia and Blackbird bakery.
b.
Very pleasant place lots of items to choose from. The customer service is wonderful.
M. L.
Every Sunday head to Herne Hill Market, for delicious fayre. My favourite is the Rainbow wrap (vegetarian)
M. B.
Nice local market. Good products from the area. Bit high end value but it's worth it. Great location as well
S. S.
Huge choice of foods and drink at this market. Will be going again!
L. F.
My friend lives in Brixton and when I go to her place I don't feel I am in London but in a different corner of the world with great atmosphere everywhere and much loved diversity
A. X.
Great market for fresh produce (meat, fish, veg., coffee) and sweet treats. Not all stall holders are there every Sunday though.
P. J.
Lovely place to take the family, variety of food from around the world, excellent take away veggie meals, open Sunday. I really enjoyed my time here.
D. H.

R. M.
Great local market. Amazing food, drinks and other bits n bobs. Nice vibe.
O. M.
Great local market - basically it's the same as any other but in Herne hill. Farmer produce, including juices, cakes, biscuits, crafts, etc. Same guys who might rotate at other markets....but now local!
T. L.
Excellent food vendors, go early do avoid the rush and them selling out of the good stuff
S. N.
Its very nice, food looks great but it's small basically one street of shops
D.
Good selection of different kinds of food. Good quality but a bit too expensive
P. W.

Nice Sunday market for food from various cultures. They've recently added a crafts are, but I've not looked at the stalls.

I used to go there every single weekend, when I lived nearby. The amazing selection of food and local craftsmanship really shows how thriving this community is.
N. G.
Quirky village market in the city. Some great deals here for tea and coffee. Nice atmosphere here too.
W. B.
The vinyl stall always has something I'd like but sometimes the food stalls just aren't that appealing.
A. W.
Lots of lovely art and design pieces by local artists. Great food options too.
C. A.
Lovely little street market with nice atmosphere plenty of food stalls and craft stalls .
P. R.
the best Sunday market in the area , and the youngest: Herne hill attracts the suburban blue collar workers out for a Sunday stroll with family in the nearby Brockwell park , in a short time the market gained a loyal following mainly in part to the services and quality on offer , there the attraction plenty of organic and mildly exotic , food with dollops of fresh baked cakes, with many another stall which to browse for the ceramics or the furniture items that have retro stamped all over .
given its close proximity to both herne hill velodrome ,and dulwich village make this the south London oasis ,
P. B.
Lovely on a sunny Sunday morning, crammed with stalls offering all kinds of delicious things to eat and drink and then take and eat in Brockwell Park which is just across the road

Only on Sunday and it's one of my favourite Sunday Market in South London away from touristic spots full of us locals enjoying our beautiful London ...many findings lots of bakery, cheese, artisanal clothes and items, planet of Caffe and pub ....welcome to Herne Hill Magic!

(Translated) I lived in Herne Hill for a year and loved going to this market on Sunday. Everything is made very fresh and locally. People are friendly and always in a good mood. Every Sunday the stands are distributed differently, some new and some regularly on site. In addition to groceries, you can also buy fabrics, clothing, furniture and wonderful paintings. Suitable for all seasons there are also offers for children, such as. Over Christmas, tinker fir trees. Highly recommended and worth a walk!
