Reviews of New Loon Moon Supermarket.
W. B.
Good visit! my Miss bought some vegetables from here!
J. W.
Busy shop. You could get most Asian cooking ingredients here. There is a good Taiwanese section upstairs. The fruits are pretty good too! We bought a huge box of longans during Chinese New Year - they were carefully graded and packed into a nice presentation box
S. H.
Had a lot of what you would need in a Chinese super market. It has 3 floors. Tidy, tills.are located on the ground floor with about 4 tills. So the wait is not too long
C. R.
Highly recommended this place. Best Lobster 🦞Noodle plus Best Dim Sum
V. F.
I love to shop here. Very nice staff, and not only food are here. Thank you xxx
S. A.
Went looking for Asian snacks, we found some interesting interesting stuff here! Also cheap as we bought about 4/5 items for 6.50£. The store has different floors, do check upstairs out. It’s worthy of a visit as you can find all kinds of Asian goods here. From Indian, East Asian, whatever kind. I suggest the sweets from Taiwan!
Update: this is now my favourite supermaket of Asian goods. I’ve tried all other ones in this area, and this is really the best.
M. T.
Generally well stocked. Great possitive of recent years is having more tills to process customers more swiftly.
N. L.
I liked the way they divided the far east/Asian food by Countries. Thou mainly Chinese food, they have a great selection on Indonesian, Thai, Korean amongst others. I like the special prices for buying in bulk. Just ask the helpers as they tend to keep boxes high above. Friendly staff.
M. J.
Friendly staff, great service, the price had gone up. Just feeling a bit back step(dim sum) not as good as used to be...
W. J.
Whenever I’m in London, this is one of the first places I go to stock up on Far Eastern nosh, particularly noodles, sauces and spices. Great variety of fresh vegetables and fruit including the durian (when in season), frozen foods and sweet delicacies.
Z. O.
Amazing I love Chinese Snacks & Sweets, plus noodles!!!
C.
Best place for Asian grocery. Best prices for Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese necessities too. Diverse staff and efficient too. It can get busy at times, but bearable. They've recently refurbed the back of the store, which is neater and less cramped.
G. R.
My Favourite Oriental Food Store in London in Gerrard Street has everything you will need including Fresh Thai Basil, Manis Kepab Indonesian sweet Soya Sauce and many other goodies!
R. R.
Not to be confused with Loon Fung, this supermarket has everything you would need to enable you to whip up any east Asian dish you saw on the Internet. There selection of snacks is huge so all your cravings can be satisfied here.
Their staff are friendly and they adhere to all the covid rules so you feel safe shopping there. Only downside is the shop is not wheelchair accessible.
A. B.
They are darn nice peeps at the New Loon Moon, but beware the 'bait & switch' chilli trick - they put the £2 red chillis all over the £1.50 green chilli basket so you grab the Thai bum burners thinking you've got an okay deal, only for them to slap with you a request for two big ones once you get to the till. Makes your hot and sour nice and hot... and yet sour, maybe it's an ancient Chinese marketing trick?
J.
I come here all the time with family to get Asian imports that just aren't available anywhere else. Staff attitude can vary, some being very friendly while some are a bit cold but overall great place to get Philippine, Chinese, Japanese (ect.) products.
J. M.
If you're looking for SE Asian products rather than Chinese products, this is the best one to go to in Chinatown. In any case you will find Chinese products too here. I find they have the best range of Thai products here.
K. W.
Caters a wide selection of Northern and Southern Asian Countries, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, China, Vietnam Thailand etc. Love their wide range of teas, loose versions. Tofu so versatile. They excel in their sauces and the till area in the side exit, adult version, to freeze ready with mochi ice cream and mochi moon jelly on display
J. S.
This is my preferred supermarket in Chinatown. Though there is no fresh meat or fish, you can get most other stuff. It's less crowded than the others: less people and wider isles.
W. F.
Very good experience. They have a great variety and super nice staff. As a Chinese, I can find everything I need! And very Fresh vegetables! Most importantly, at good price 👍❤️
E. C.
Able to find a lot of snacks in reasonable price. Better than the other supermarket that always get recommended. Less narrow aisle, more comfortable to shop with.
F. T.
One of the three major Chinese food supermarkets located right in London Chinatown catering for almost all the neighborhood Chinese community. It offers everything Chinese from spices to fresh fruits and vegetables airfreight from Asia. Anything you need to prepare your favorite dishes can be bought here; if not just book it via the shop assistant and they will try to source it for you and airfreight it next time. The shop is always chaotic and forever crowded with queue out of the door, extremely popular with locals and tourists alike.
T.
Nice selection of products, had everything we needed and more
A. C. (.
Of the 3 large supermarkets in Chinatown, I find this one to be the best price-wise.
If you have a long shopping list, you still find yourself visiting at least 2 of them though.
P. K.
this is one of the most variety full pack of Asian grocery store in covent garden.
LSE Students ALWAYS get a good deal to explore home food in London.
nice
M. “. T.
Great Asian supermarket in the heart of Chinatown with goods from Japan, China and Korea. Little fresh produce, mostly frozen and dried, a huge selection of snacks, noodles, ramen, and other goodies upstairs. Be sure to check the back too for more downstairs.
K. L.
Great selection of Oriental foods with great prices.
M. R.
My favourite Asian supermarket!! They have almost everything here! I don't mind to come little bit far away from my home to do my grocery here!
M. P.
Great selection of foods I've not seen else where both fresh and packaged. The prices are mostly okay. 10-20p cheaper online for some items such as Cocon puddings. But no postage to pay, so works out better.
The building is packed tight, so isle space is a luxury. Definitely try to go when it's quieter. On a busy day I imagine the air gets a bit stuffy.
We bought Jackfruit from them last week and were pleased it was actually fresh and mostly ripe.
I wish the Sachima selection was greater, but I guess there isn't enough space for it. I do think that the intention of the supermarket is to serve local communities who cannot get home food else where.
All in all, the best supermarket in China town.
T. P.
Probably the best quality and freshest veg in Chinatown but also the most expensive by some distance. Although the shop looks like a small business it is part of a very big business. I'm told that it wholsales to ethnic retailers all over the country. It has a few things which we cannot get anywhere else in Chinatown.
R. M.
Great selection, you’ll find everything you need here - nicely laid out with all ingredients easy to find.
J. B.
You want a good Asian supermarket? You want one which sells Chinese, Korean and Tai foods? This is worth a visit. Over 2 floors there is a myriad of things to explore.
Always busy so you will have to queue at the checkout
P. R.
a good selection of oriental and Asian foods, both fresh and non-perishable
A. G.
Great place for very specific Asian ingredients. Primarily Chinese, but there's a very good selection of Korean, Thai, Filipino, and maybe Vietnamese and Indo-Malay ingredients. I was looking for beancurd skin and I found them.
T. C.
Fresh Asian vegetables and good staff
M.
This is my favorite asian supermarket.
Reasonable price and lots of options.
It has enough korean ingredients to cook korean food.
However, it is always too busy to get the counter to pay for stuff quickly. I should queue all the time.
c. W.
Though it is a chinese supermarket, it sells all kinds of Asian food, including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, Vietnam, Malaysian...etc. The cashiers are nice. They always wear smiles. In addition, this supermarket offer free bags.
J. K.
Great choice of things you can't find in other stores in China Town. Thai food for example
A. E.
The widest range of sauces in Chinatown, with a pretty wide selection of exotic fruit. The shop is split over three levels, with a fairly decent Korean and Japanese section upstairs. Certain items tend to disappear off the shelves seemingly at random, only to turn up in a wholly different location a few weeks later, so ask for help if you have trouble finding anything. Service is generally brusque, so temper all expectations.
R. C.
If you need that unusual Asian ingredient for that meal you've been meaning to cook, vegetables or herbs, fresh or dried, sauces, spices, meats, seafood, anything you can imagine, then visit here. There are sweets, noodles by the stack, drinks, the most obscure things from the corners of Asia and beyond, got to be seen to be believed, over several floors. Even specialist cookware and utensils, much cheaper than you'd pay in a cook shop. They accept cards.
T. S. P.
Best market in China Town. Less cramped (still packed) than the rest and with an excellent variety of Asian food and drink. Upstairs is a vast array of noodle choice and oriental sweets from all around Asia. Expect slightly impatient and noisy staff, this is all part of the experience!
I. R.
One of the 2 Asian supermarkets in China Town. Prices are similar at both. You can get almost any speciality Asian food: different dried up fruits and veggies, all the types of noodles, very interesting snacks amd drinks etc.. All on 3 stories. The only problem is sometimes the ventilation doesn't work properly so the supermarket has a weird smell.
J. K.
Wonderful place. Found all the asian groceries I was searching for. Better than other surrounding shops.
n. c. (.
Gigantic oriental super market in the heart of London. This place is my number one place to get all my oriental shopping. They got a range of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Filipino, Thai, Viet, Malaysian and most east and south east Asian product
B.
Cheap and good value, good variety of products from different Asian countries. A pretty big store with a second floor with more products. Will be back again 🤪
W. T.
Great Asian SuperMarket with a good range of variety. There are about 3 supermarkets in the same area. Do check them out to compare prices between products.
Things I usually buy from New Loon Moon (because they are cheaper):
1. Udon Soup Stock (cheaper than Japan Centre)
2. Seaweed
3. Japanese Curry Cubes
4. Original Malaysia Maggie Mee (Instant Noodles)
5. Fresh Veg (Watercress)
The plus points:
-They give free plastic bags on checkout
-The staff are friendly than SeeWoo
-They have a huge range of sauces, condiments, at their 2nd floor.
It did not get 5 stars from me because
a. not all things are cheap (i.e. not a one stop shop)
The other place I frequent is SeeWoo SuperMarket for Asian stuff. Do check them out too. Cheers.
F. L. F.
Good selection of products. Don't forget to go upstairs and in the basement too.
They could have done with a bit more staff at the cashier but, still pretty efficient.
On a down side, smelled a bit weird but, don't know what was causing this.
W. M.
Nice supermarket has a lot of stuff you would expect from a Chinese supermarket. A wide variety of instant noodles.
A. M.
Love going there so many things to buy and such a large range the staff are so helpful and friendly
A. A.
Amazing selection of East Asian foods. Recommend highly!!
S. I.
It is a real treat every time I visit this shop; staff are very polite and pleasant too
d. w.
Awesome selection of Asian vegetables and noodles. Not just Chinese but Thai, Korean and Japanese too
E. L.
A lot of variety Asian product, and also sell good Taiwanese product here
C. D.
One of the best asian supermarket in Chinatown. They have more south East Asian selections than other shops, especially Thai ingredients
K. L.
It's hard to pop into New Loon Moon and not load up on snacks or desserts. While the veg and fruit selection is much less impressive than SeeWoo or the other Asian market across from New Loon Moon, you can't say no to two and a half floors or sprawling edibles.
The upstairs is mainly snacks, Japanese goods, and the half-floor underground is Southeast Asian stuff.
Prices aren't shabby, and my favorite thing here are the "ta koh". Thai dessert that pairs savory coconut milk cream on top of a lightly sweet tapioca jelly, all wrapped up in a fragrant leaf. Pretty and all kinds of tasty, I've brought it to many a dinner party.
£5 minimum for card payments.
J. D.
Great selection of Chinese and SE Asian foods including fresh and frozen produce. Credit/debit cards accepted for purchases over 5 GBP.
B.
Great selection of products from all around Asia. Definitely worth the trip if you are looking for great cooking ingredientsor even just for a little nostalgia.
P. M.
All the SE Asian ingredients plant, vegetable & sauces! Very helpful too! A varied & wide range!
R. A.
Great choice for Chinese, Japanese, Malaysian and Japanese ingredients. Staff are a little rude and some things are a little overpriced (most likely due to location). The positive is that you'll be sure to find any ingredient you need from here.
A. L.
New Loon Moon has an amazing selection of Asian vegetables and amazingly they also stock fresh petai (sator) and also the Ayam canned variety. Malaysians missing their Penang White Curry Mee can find packs of the Ibumie instant noodles of that flavour retailing at GBP2.15 for a pack of 4. New Loon Moon also have Hainanese Chicken Rice paste and Assam Laksa Pastes. You can also find Adabi Curry Powder for either Fish or Meat curries here too.
C. J.
Interesting selection if authentic Chinese supermarket goods. Very tight for space so would recommend trying to go when midweek when quieter or avoid middle of day at weekends
J. I.
Upstairs, they have Chongqing noodles. My favourite! Staff very nice.
G. C.
Great selection of Japanese & Korean groceries in the middle of Chinatown. Great prices too, thus excellent stop if you fance to try something different.
T. S.
This supermarket has a wide range, but it isn't my go to supermarket in Chinatown. I tend to use it for things that are slightly harder to get. It has a smaller range of fresh produce than the others.
I. U.
The go-to place for when you're looking for exotic Asian ingredients (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Thai, etc.). They've got lots of things you won't find in other supermarkets.
S. Y.
They have most of produces grom Thailand but sadly the staffs are all so very rude. I only shop there when i really need to.
K. Y.
An oriental supermarket selling Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Malaysian and Thai food. Has good selection.
A. O.
Surprisingly large selection, decent prices and no lower limit to card payments. Great source for mochi and other sweet treats.
P.
Great place for Asian foods. Highly recommend! If your looking for mochi you came to the right place and all things Asian.
R. S.
Not too bad, generally can find whatever you're looking for. Quite busy but not as squeezy as across the street due to it being on two levels.
Have a good selection of dried items as well.
G. L.
Great variety of Asian produce, but be ready to stand in line at the check out, which can loop several times in the shop!
J. L.
Great for all manner of pan-Asian groceries. Fresh produce and meat as well as dry goods. Very crowded during peak hours though.
S. l. E.
Brilliant there's a great variety, very welcoming, my favourite shop to go to ,helpful too if you need assistance
S. T.
Best selection of fresh ingredients for Southeast Asian cooking in Chinatown. Always super busy, though.
L. W.
Good variety of Chinese ingredients available. Unfortunately couldn't find good dumpling wrappers and had to make do with wonton wrappers instead.
C. T.
Good Chinese food. Probably one of the better places in the area compared to the other places I've tried. The dim sum is pretty good and the dinner menu is quite nice.
K. Y.
You can find most East Asian ingredients you need to cook here. It covers everything Japanese, Thai, Chinese, to Korean, Indonesian and Malaysian.
I. G.
They always have what I want. They even have some items the bigger oriental supermarkets don't have. Like okomomyaki sauce.
K. A.
Most of everything you need for asian stuff is here. The reason why I only gave 4 stars because some of the staff, really rude and not helpful. Not all of them, coz there are staff who really nice and all.
I. P.
Lovely Chinese supermarket but far too many people crowding at checkout, no supervision.
M. J.
some amazing items here from across East Asia. I love buying items from here.
N. T.
Chinese supermarket, great range of foods. Warm your bank manager first. I always spend more than I intended haha
C.
Loads of interesting looking chinese food and more. Very well priced. Don't forget to look upstairs. Great.
R. L.
One of my go to shops when I'm in the area and need to pick up some Asian ingredients for home cooking.
L. G.
Decent Chinese, generous portions and quiet, casual ambience. Has Karaoke rooms as well but they are a little expensive.
B.
Two floors with a 3rd section downstairs, great selection. Not all organised like a mainstream supermarket so make sure you look round everything!
N. I.
Super cheap and has a wide selection. Would recommend for all oriental cooking.
T. '. W.
Don't forget about upstairs for more exotic foods
J. Y.
certainly good are cheaper than its competitors, so always shop around if you want to save money
R.
Great range of Asian food, all at what I assume to be typical Chinatown prices.
C. G. D. S.
Great for many different Asian supplies, organised by county, good selection of cooking utensils in the back.
a. g.
Quality fresh fruit and veg as well as dry goods and frozen. Store is always busy.
C. d. W.
Great place to get cheaper japanese and korean foods than the other larger chains
C. S.
Best place in London for far East foods and spices Indonesia Korea Vietnam Cambodia China Thai Malaysia Phillipinnes over 3 floors worth a visit
G. B.

A.

N. W.
A ton of asian candy and food. I only go there for candy. The place is crowded most of the time, so come here if you don't mind touching strangers.
陈.
The shop provides many kinds of Chinese food or sources, and the price is acceptable. I go this place frequently.

(Translated) A typical Super League reminds me of a food department store in my hometown. There are many things, and the coverage is wide. There are upstairs and downstairs, which is a bit small, but it makes sense.
(Original)
很典型的一个中超,让我想起了家乡的一家食品百货批发店,东西多,覆盖面广,有楼上楼下,就是有点小,不过是有道理的。

(Translated) It is suitable for buying instant food from each country. However, if you are looking for fresh products, it would be better to find another place. It seems that they have most of the processed foods. If you buy less than 5 pounds, you may feel a little reluctant to ask for cash, but if you are looking for essential ingredients, it seems to be a suitable place. Including Chinese food, ingredients from various countries such as Korea, Japan, and India are gathered.

(Translated) I missed Korean instant food so much that I visited the market.
There are a lot of things on the first floor of various Korean foods
Is it for export? Does it taste different from Korean?
(Original)
한국 인스턴트식품이 너무 그리워 방문한 마켓.
다양한 한국식품 1층에 매무 많아요.
수출용이라 그런가 맛은 한국꺼랑 좀 다른듯?

(Translated) Very good if what you are looking for is food of Chinese, Japanese or Korean origin. I recommend the peas with wasabi. Beware of noodels, they bite a lot.
(Original)
Muy bueno si lo que buscas es comida de origen chino, japonés o coreano. Os recomiendo los guisantes con wasabi. Cuidado con los noodels, pican mucho.

(Translated) Anyway, it was crowded and the rows of cashiers were amazing. But it ’s wide, it ’s abundant, and it ’s cheap, so you ca n’t help it.
(Original)
とにかく混んでてレジの列がすごい。でも広くて品揃え豊富で安いから仕方ないというかんじです。
