Reviews of Rice Wine Shop
D. D.
So many great things here!
You can find a lot of Japanese stuff!
(especially for the snacks)
N. I.
This place offers basic Japanese essentials with reasonable price, slightly cheaper than Japan Centre nearby. In fact, Japan Centre tends to sell stuffs that are just about to expire whereas this place doesn't. After feeling ripped off from JC so often, I prefer this small store these days.
A. R.
A hidden gem. A good variety of products for such a small store. Prices are surprisingly lower compared to some other grocery stores, which is welcomed of course. Most importantly, it feels less commercial and more welcoming to shop here!
M. H.
A Japanese store with a good selection of sake and plum wines, my Japanese partner loves the place, it's easy for her but when I've been on my own I've always found the staff very helpful and so get what I need even if I don't know what it's called.
K. M.
Great selection of both basic and more obscure Japanese products in this tiny but cosy and always very tidy shop. Friendly staff, good prices.
D. Y.
You just can't find a better shop. I source all my spices, veg, even your everyday bread and milk are just better and cheaper here. The staff are almost like a big family and you feel welcome.
C. Y. L. (.
A very Japanese shop with value price and great variety of Japanese products. Staffs are polite and nice.
F. J.
Such a good little shop in the middle central London. And prices are so reasonable!!! Staff is also really sweet and polite!
s. m.
Excellent website services, with good price! The order came so quick! I didn't expect at all!! 1.5 day!
K. D.
It's a small shop but packed with a very good range of Japanese food.
J.
I've been coming here for years. They have a great range of options for good prices, and the people working here are always very friendly and helpful.
A. J.
This place has everything you need for cooking an authentic Japanese meal, with better price than Japan Centre. Plus they have delicious takeaway sushi boxes.
J. L.
The best Japanese grocery store in London! The price is far more reasonable than Japan centre. Highly recommended!
A. H.
I've used this store for many years, and their online store has been a godsend during the lockdown. I've ordered my groceries from them online a few times over the past year and they always pack and ship promptly, sometimes even shipped same day as order. We live outside of London and it's great to have a reliable supplier to keep us stocked up. Can't recommend them enough.
n.
Tiny shop hidden away, but surprisingly wide selection of products at good prices
J. T.
It is much better prices than the competitor ( J*pan Centre), so I normally straight to come here. Lost one star because the lady at the till was a bit weird and gave me a broken carrier bag and after I paid money, she just left the bag far away from me, so I need to go to pick it up from the basket ( it is not very a light bag!).
When I asked a price of small confectionary, she said to me the price is attached to the product but it was not shown outside box ( so I need to pick it up to see the price), in the covid world I am hesitant to touch products if I might not buy them. The queue also could be awkward here because it is a very small shop so I tend to go in and pick up what I need quickly and get out as fast as I could. With a child it is a bit challenging sometimes ( she asks me about many products she does not know).
R. N.
A great little shop in central for asian food, and reasonably priced. Loved their fresh daily sushi (from before covid) which was very well priced - am looking forward to it's return post covid. The staff are friendly and helpful. Recommend!
K. B.
Lovely people, lovely food and selection and good prices in comparison to other places!
k. W.
Always a good place to get Japanese groceries. Comparing other Japanese supermarkets in London rice wine is slightly. It's a small shop and doesn't have a lot of fresh food or produce but you can get most things.
K. Y. L. (.
Shop there all the time. Staff always friendly. Much cheaper than the more popular Japan Centre near Leicester Square.
A. T.
Small Japanese grocery store. They have a bit of everything including Japanese snacks and frozen food. They had some deals today on different Matcha based KitKats. Prices are reasonable and cheaper than Japan Center.
K. W.
Cheaper and smaller Japanese mart also supply small selection of lunch snacks such as rice balls. If you need sushi rice or Japanese liquor, teas, soba, ramen noodles in a hurry and don't have time to get it at a larger store, they have it, in their compact shop.
P. W.
The best Japanese grocer in the heart of London. Don't be fooled by its small size, it'll have everything you need
L. Z.
Well stocked Japanese food shop and cheaper than Japan Centre I believe.
It is still rather expensive but that is to be expected for imported goods.
I'd go to the Chinese Asian shops for some things as they are much cheaper.
Some of the staff are friendly. Don't expect the customer service you get in Japan (if you have ever visited )
E. M.
Great selection of fresh sushi to take away for a reasonably priced lunch.
Every possible Japanese cooking ingredient you would need to cook your own dinner.
On my last visit I noticed a lovely plant/flower stall outside, delightful!
C. C.
I would give it 4 and a half stars because of the price be ready to spend a bit but it is worth it this has good quality Japanese goods it is a good place it is cheaper to buy in Japan bit some thing you can't bring to England like Japanese pork they got you covered so it's not cheap but it is good quality
L. R.
Good selection of Japanese goods. Most at reasonable prices (cheaper than some other Japanese supermarkets), often with plenty of special offers and discounts. It’s worth giving their small sushi selection a try too.
G. B.
Best value Japanese groceries.
A.
Small but very well stocked shop specialising in Asian, mostly Japanese but also some Korean brands. Particularly good for noodles, rice and various condiments. Far better value than the nearby Japan Centre.
J.
Used to go there so often, they have so much choice when it comes to Asian ingredients. The sushi selection was also great, not the best quality sushi but for the price I can't complain.
The staff is also really nice.
T. M. M.
The best place for Japanese groceries in central London. They have a website, so you can get your groceries delivered. It’s cheaper than the Japan Center.
Z. A. S.
Lovely shop, lovely staff. A variety of products at reasonable price. Wold recommended to visit if in the area.
A. H.
Can't really say bad thing about the place. Prices are reasonable and waaay cheaper than japan centre. Just the size of the shop is not doing any justice to the place. It is very small. I know it is not staff fault but wished it was bigger. Other than that it is a really great place if you want for buy authentic japanese products at reasonable price.
T. H. (.
Japanese look and feel shop, our favourite shop when we go out to London. However this visit seems to downturn as the variety of choices seems to be limited and some of the brands used to stock wasn't there anymore. eg: seaweed used to be imported from Japan now from China, disappointed.
E. Y.
Basic but goody full of most reasonablly priced Japanese food, drinks, sweets available with friendly staff. This is one of the best little shop to buy materials for Japanese meal. Also some Sushi daily.
D. K.
Such a great little shop. During more normal times they sold cheap and fresh sushi packs.
M. H.
Good selection of Japanese cooking products. They do thinly sliced meat too! It can be really hard to find in England so that's pretty nice. Look in the freezer at the back of the shop.
E. M.
Cheap option for good japanese food. Located in Picadilly Circus near the Japan centre, this is a smallish shop. The staff might not be the friendliest but you get good deals. There's not much fresh food but lots of store cupboard essentials. Well worth trying for cheaper deals on Japanese food.
A. G.
Brilliant shop offering a wide range of Japanese food products at competitive prices. More reasonable than the nearby Japan Centre, the clientele is a sign of how valued Rice Wine is to London's Japanese community.
A. N.
This lively little shop has a great variety of Japanese food at a reasonable price. A little gem in Central London! Staff are very polite and welcoming.
C. B.
I go to Rice Wine Shop most days for my lunch. They serve really fresh salmon and avocado sushi for £2.58 (6 pcs)! The chicken katsu sushi is also amazing - again, really cheap. You can also buy Tofu, Japanese meats, all sorts of sauces, wasabi/teriyaki flavour crisps, panda biscuits.... list goes on. Staff are so friendly and happy and you get a real "family-run" vibe from them. Very rare in London and a real gem.
T. L. (.
Decent Japanese Food Shop.
When I check sake bottled date, it has been year back.
But it is general practice to check BBD for food so it is easy to manage.
g. t.
Little shop selling Japanese stock. For such a small place it offers quite a range. I'd normally shop here and go over to the competition if I want fresh daily produce.
C. J. T.
I was happy to be introduced to this little gem by a work colleague. Sushi is cheap and cheerful and great, especially in the summer where people come here to get lunch and then sit in the sunshine locally. In the summer if you've not been here by 1pm, forget it as they will have very little stock. Wasn't too pleased to find a long black strand of hair in my onigiri last week. That's actually put me off of going for a while.
S. T.
Love this shop. Small but have enough essential i needed.
So greatful is still open 7 days a week.
J. H.
Great little place for buying Japanese food in central London. Usually cheaper than the Japan centre or Arigato, but somewhat smaller. Most of the customers are Japanese, which seems like a good sign.
T. D.
Great prices, lovely staff, good selection. Handy for price comparing to nearby Japan Centre, or if either is missing a product. Especially thrilling selection of fish cakes. <3!
K. W.
Good little shop for Japanese groceries at a reasonable price. Strangely though, I couldn't find any mochi.
L. G.
Pretty cheap and pretty good selection. Tuna mayo onigiri was very good, chicken teriyaki, not so much. Sushi is authentic tasting and cheap. Bargain.
S. S.
喜欢这里 一个日料老板娘告诉我的店 价格很有优势 还会再来 可是快要毕业了😢
really likes this place which is told by a female Japanese owner of a restaurant. The price is competitive and will definitely come again. The sad thing is that I will graduate and go back to China within 2 months but I just found this great store😢
A. L.
A very nice real made in japan store.
A. S.
Usually go there for a quick drop to get some food for lunch. They always have fresh rolls in early afternoon which is rather cheap and pretty decent.
The staff are a bit slow sometimes for central London but pretty friendly.
A. K.
It is small but has everything we usually need for cooking Japanese food. It's now a bit more convenient than Japan Centre, and the prices are slightly lower.
m. v.
The most authentic cosiest Japan grocery store, choice of ready made is fantastic the real thing, amazing choice really nice staff
Y. C.

R. H.

J.
Lovely little shop with authentic Japanese goods. Friendly and welcoming service. Wish it was a little bigger. Can be hard to move around when it’s busy.
D. M.

M.
Awesome little shop, they have everything you need for Japanese cooking, reasonable prices too.
Z.
A lovely small Japanese shop with some very good deals and cheap Japanese items compared to Japan Centre which is not too far from this shop. I recommend this shop as it's less crowded and the staff are very helpful and polite :)
E. D.
Great little Japanese corner store where you can get lunch, fill your pantry or stock up on Japanese snacks. It's tiny though. Leave prams etc outside.
C. C.
Nice little Asian supermarket, the offers are much greater than I expected.
L. G.

J.
Much affordable Japanese supermarket, great social distancing in place.

My mum always runs me over there for errands, but it's worth it for the karage and the Japanese snacks that remind me of my childhood.

Essential, comprehensive, chaotic, fun and sometimes mysterious. This is where you go when you are serious about Japanese food but not about the culture.
