Reviews of Red Funnel Ferries
L. S. (.
Normally travel Wight link but occasionally go on Red Funnel. I kinda feel Wight link is better if it's a busier crossing but if you are on Red Funnel and not huge amounts of people are on it's a much nicer crossing. You can enjoy the boat and actually access the shop and get things in a timely manner. Red Funnel staff also seem to have a bit more personality about them and nice to talk to.

Have no complaints about this ferry trip, it got me there safe and got me home safe. The boat was as clean as could be expected. We had breakfast on the first trip and it was good. The staff were polite and helpful.
Have to say the guy loading on the land at Southampton was funny as was bowing and waving to everyone which made us all smile.
One thing to watch is the lanes leading into Cowes red funnel as if you are in the wrong one it's a pain to get across. So stay in the right lane
R. R.
Easy experience with helpful staff. The ferry has a great viewing platform, places to eat and lots of seating to relax snd take in the beautiful views.
L. U.
Booked an inclusive camping package and all is great so far. Ferry crossing went really well, only minor thing is it would be nicer if the staff seemed a bit more cheerful. But I imagine they have been drained by the covid situation.
T. Z. H. H.
Nice and easy checking in. Easy car loading. One hour journey. No hassles. Plenty of food and drink to purchase. Toilets are clean and tidy. Plenty of seating inside and out.
J.
99% great service, just the odd occasion where there's a slight delay, getting very expensive though compered to a few years ago....
J. W.
Great experience!!
Me and wife traveled for our 2month wedding anniversary and spent some “alone time” relaxing by the beach!!
Great service, amazing quality and comfortable seats. Outside benches to sit on and enjoy the journey. Sainsbury’s to go available and full English breakfast in the morning.
Thank you for your service !! 🥰 Experience 100000/10
D. S.
The only way to travel , if your going to the Isle of Wight they provide a service that’s fantastic , sailing from Southampton to Cows , food and drink on board and gift shop , docs on IOW next to a big supermarket ideal for stocking up on your supplies ,
e. t. (.
Great services provided. There is a voucher code you can find. Think they are the cheats ferry to go to Isle of Wight. At the Southampton terminal, camera recognition means that you don’t need to present your e-tickets. Need to be at the terminal 30 minutes rover the departure time. On board service is good. Happy with the service overall.
L. M.
Excellent service, ferrys on time, clean and efficient. Always get a good service from red funnel. Always chose to travel from Southampton.
S. R.
Easy to find, punctual, lovely friendly staff, designated dog area, smooth crossing, what more could I want. Thank you Red Funnel
S. S.
Just had a over night stay here . Our daughter booked it as a surprise because of the name being our surname. What a exerlant choice. Breakfast and evening was excellent. Very relaxing atmosphere so friendly. And full mark for cleanliness. We will definitely be coming back.
O. O.
It's a ferry - gets you from Southampton to East Cowes on the Isle of Wight! Good facilities and large cooked breakfast with drink and toast for less than a tenner. Good views of the island on the way.
T. A.
Definitely an experience you should never miss..
Taking the car along in the ferry gives you the flexibility to roam freely in IOW
B. C.
First time crossing on the ferry to IoW and it was fantastic! It only takes 1 hour from Southampton Town Quay to East Cowes but it feels like you are properly at sea. The ferry is well equipped with lots of seats inside, and open spaces on 2 decks if you fancy fresh air. There were 600 passengers on our crossing - it was busy but there was still space to sit or wander around the shops & cafe or on deck. There are great views enroute along Southampton Water, across the New Forest, Netley and the Solent. Can't wait to do it again!
R. C. L. (.
Worth paying the extra for the signature lounge as it's quiet, you get complementary drinks, pastries and the view is almost as good as from the outside, from the deck.
J. M.
So easy to book online and to make any alterations if needed .
Always a very smooth , slick operation to get vehicles and passengers on and off the ferry efficiently.
The staff are always friendly and helpful. Good announcements made on board , with apologies if any delays are caused by weather or whatever.
Plenty of refreshment on board and a small gift shop.
What is not to like?
B. T.
Wonderful ferry ride. Very smooth entry(be there before 15 mins) and they scan our vehicle(if we booked online before) before we talk to the gate keeper and he provide the boarding pass. Very friendly staffs. So spacious to roam on the top and can sit relax and enjoy the view (no need to pay extra for that). Coffee and food options available. Kids enjoyed a lot
J. L. (.
Really well organised roll on and off ferry. From Southampton it takes about an hour with your car. No need to show your ticket as the car registration is read and they find you on their computer system, all pretty slick.
R. T.
I loved it. Under an hour and feels faster than it is. 0.9% less chance of seasick. Great view & sitting places. Go inside if cold.
A. M.
Very disappointed by the service at the signature lounge.
I was denied entrance by the manager of the lounge because apparently they were fully booked.
I have checked, and there were 7 people out of 50/60 covers
I have complained to the person in charge downstairs and it was surprised as much as me.
He was professional enough to find a place for me in an almost empty lounge so I could finish my work in time before I reached mainland.
Also the young waiter behind the bar was very helpful and professional.
I am sure it's ready to teach some manners and customer service to the manager.
D. W.
Staff could not have been more helpful getting us near a lift. Shame they were not working on Falcon and only the one on Eagle, so our passenger with limited mobility had to climb a steep set of stairs to the pet lounge, both ways.
B. L.
Very comfortable service, great choice of food and drink. Especially enjoyed the upgrade premium lounge. Will travel with you again and again.
A. R.
Friendly greeting at the gate. Easy to go through with number plate recognition. Speedy boarding then up to restaurant for relaxing journey to the IoW. Great crossing. Very smooth . Highly recommend. Just one tip. Take some food with you. As you would expect all drinks and snacks expensive. Happy sailing.
j. d.
Work sent me to the Isle of Wight, they booked & paid for a return ticket. Expected it to be rough as a storm was forecast, fortunately it was pretty calm and an easy journey!
J. D.
Really well organised. All staff very friendly and welcoming, especially to our two small children (aged 5&1).
Every thing was clean, we had breakfast which was really nice. The toilets were well kept. Our children loved the experience.
And nobody minded me having a JD and coke at 9am! 😂
R. S.
I have travelled with Red Funnel several times now and have been impressed by the service both by booking staff and also on board. Once, when my ferry was cancelled the staff could not have been more helpful to rebook me at a convenient time. Staff are pleasant, helpful and very efficient and I have enjoyed each crossing.
F. M.
Loved it. Smooth crossing with bars and lovely views. Effective people on board .
Top 5 to them.
R. H.
Easy travel no fuss. Decent service and grub, had the traditional breakfast, a bit pricey as expected but nice experience. We arrived early and managed to get an earlier ferry. Nice seating areas on top deck and restaurant.
D. W.
It is very well run from booking the tickets online to getting on the ferry great service very quick and easy, both trips were very smooth. Food and drink on-board and plenty of seating.
G. G.
Everything about how Red Funnel operated was good to watch, very professional I noticed also that the staff were very safety conscious as well as being very helpful with directions and passenger queries. The on board catering was excellent value & the catering staff very nice & polite. I would definitely recommend Red Funnel & look forward to travelling with them again.
J. B.
As always the best way to get to the IOW and still good catering on board... Good price and very good service...
M. T.
Great staff. Slightly tricky using the lift on the ferry (vehicle ferry) if you have a wheelchair or scooter as the lift door doesn't automatically open. Lift extremely small too. Best reverse into the lift else getting out is hard. Dog friendly. Didn't seem to be any announcements for boarding for passengers. No staff for buying tickets, had to use a machine. Nice drinks in the café onboard.
P. T.
Would of been 5 star but ran a bit late. Otherwise we’ll run helpful staff
J. S.
Very disappointed on today's crossing at 11 o'clock from Southampton chaos on getting into the ferry yard. When we finally got the car on the ferry only one food or coffee station open.and over 20 mins late leaving and no reason given. Not upto normal standards.
J. K.
Smooth journey. Good, clean waiting room and shop, with loos. Straightforward to drive on and off.
C. W.
This was our first crossing with Red Funnel but won't be our last.
We arrived a little earlier than planned, but this was no trouble. We paid a small fee, but they called us straight onto the ferry without a problem.
The staff were all pleasant, it was quite a busy crossing but the weather was good, so we spent it out on the deck watching the world go by.
Arrived ahead of time and disembarked without any trouble. Did the job, got us from A to B as expected, can't fault a thing!
N. B.
Great service, easy boarding and keen prices , will definitely use them again 👍
T. P.
We had a very smooth crossing yesterday, the ferry loading and unloading went like clockwork. The check-in at both Southampton and Cowes easy using number plate recognition so no need for paperwork or to use the ticket on my phone. Definitely recommend.
T. A.
Reception, loading unloading etc were friendly and very efficient. Everything happened on time. We arrived early and they quickly transferred us on to the earlier sailing with no hassle or fuss. I haven't used other services to the IoW so can't compare but the crossing seemed quite long as we had to traverse almost the whole length of the estuary, whereas I think other sailings would be quicker.
Don't bother with the abysmal, over-priced refreshments on board. Awful coffee.
G.
Nice little trip , breakfast on way over (for work on IOW ) and nice chilled read on way back , staff all efficient 👍
A. M.
Choosing Red funnel ferry for the week from Southampton to the Isle of Wight, the whole process was a CRUISE .
Recommend to be there 30 minutes prior is amble of time but reminder traffic can build up with west Quay being next door depending your chosen boarding times .
Recommend you have your bar code available on entry or your digit number .ready to hand .
Received a half price voucher with entry at the gate..
Voucher = 1 half price transaction in cafe. Breakfast was fab and with the offer only coste a fiver for large bfast and a drink
1 hr total journey including entry and exit.
Staff professional and a pleasant experience.
Reminder car alarm do tend to go off .
Thanks Red funnel
D. C.
This was our third time in three years and although busy loading was again very slick and professional. Was a bit confused about how getting a hot drink fitted in with getting food. Only one area where a hot drink was obtainable, needed more.
A.
IOW trip on the bike. Cheap enough. Crossing was on time. Boarding and disembarking first. Food on board was nice. Toilets were clean. Outside decks clean, well maintained. Easy access to the website. Friendly staff at the port.
S. F.
Red Funnel is our ferry of choice, it is convenient and generally reliable.
I would give 5 stars except that there was maintenance work going on on the day we travelled with ceiling panels removed.
I have also noticed that the standard of the cooked breakfast has gone down of the last few crossings particularly the way it is served, very little attention to the presentation, just slopped on the plate.
D. L.
Efficient service over to the Isle of Wight. Well stocked shop on board and refreshments available
J. L. C.
Brilliant ferry, friendly staff and toilets immaculate. Quick turn around with getting cars on/off.
D. R. Y.
I had change my booking a week before coz I need to add another person but it was easy via customer service hotline. Boarding is organized, ferry left and arrived on time. Our trip went well even though it's raining a bit. It's an hour journey so make sure to bring your snacks. 👍✌️
L. F.
Great service and great sea veiw the upstairs was great watching the ships go by
Z. X.
Nice service to use, easy to get to and friendly staff around. Food on board was a little over cooked for liking, but service still good. Deck area outside to get fresh air or plenty to sit inside. Overall pretty plain sailing really and what's expected as a customer.
L. B.
Really good service over the Easter weekend. On the way out, the journey was in doubt due to heavy fog but RF managed the issues and got me on the boat I had booked. I arrived early on the way back and was able to get on the earlier boat (result!). Really pleased with the pet lounge - only downside was there was no service in the cafe on the way out.
A. W.
Outward journey was incredibly simple barely needing to stop at the booking kiosk, I didn't even need to show my ticket that was on my phone, the officer even knew my name!
Organisation seemed slick and easy, parked onboard with no fuss.
Outward crossing was good.
Return was just as easy. We didn't get food but we did get coffee, which wasn't very pleasant. It was good to see a fresh bean to cup machine but the coffee is weak and insipid...didn't finish it and wished I had tea!
S. C.
We missed our ferry but no problem.
We were offered to go on the freight one smaller but got to isle of wight earlier and easier to offboard as only 6 of us to leave 🙌 lovely friendly team on board and great crossing
R. J.
A brilliant crossing to the Isle of Wight.
Easy to book and a variety of crossings to choose from.
There is plenty of seating across the two decs and loads of space outside to walk around and enjoy the scenery.
I upgraded to the Signature Lounge and was greeted with a complimentary hot tea, coffee or bottle of water. I had the whole lounge to myself which was an added bonus.
Fantastic experience using this service.
D. B.
I couldn't recommend them highly enough. We got stuck in traffic so were late, they were very reassuring and told us not to worry and put us on standby. Considering it was the school holidays they managed to get us on the next ferry. The staff are polite and friendly, this isnt a one off we go every year and they are always the same. Thank you Red Funnel!
M. W.
Lovely calm crossing to and from iow.
This is the first year that was delayed on way to iow festival and delayed coming back. They said cause they were very busy like it was unexpected! On the way there they said one boat was out of action which can't be helped but on way back was very busy. I can't see how this can happen when you have to book your time slot...unless they overbooked. Wasn't impressed getting to festival for the eve instead of around 3. If your going for a day then you need to get a very early crossing or day b4. Live and learn.
K. B.
Fast and reasonably priced, the short trip is an experience to add to your holiday my young daughter loved it even though it was raining. The service was spot on and they even managed to get us on an earlier ferry which was great.
S. C.
Nice and smooth trip across to the Isle of White. I would recommend you buy a drink from somewhere before you get on to come back. They didn't open the shop until the ferry was 10mins into the crossing back. Sitting 30mins on a hot day with no liquid. ☹
J.
Friendly staff, both on the boats and on land, and the process was quite smooth. The boat we went on felt pretty outdated, however, and the journey time felt slow. Nothing particularly stood out, it was just a 'good enough' experience.
A. N.
Thinking about that it was my first time beein on a ferry, I could say that it was amazing. Not the parking or anything that's linked with the vehicle transportation, but about the view on the top floor. An huge placez with lots of seats, restaurant, toilets... Everything that you would need for a short journey
G. T.
One of 2 main operators to the Isle of Wight.
I think Red Funnel operates mainly out of Southampton whilst its main competitor operates from Portsmouth.
Surprisingly well equipped passenger ferry with toilets and refreshments and several lounges. Large outside deck area and plenty of room to socially distance.
The freight ferry is a lot more cramped, with just one small room and a toilet for drivers to pass the time, although there is space to maintain 2 metre social distancing. There is also enough room for 1 person on what passes for the outside deck area.
Crossings take around an hour and the boarding process is very straight forward. Would recommend.
P. D.
Regular user and find service okay. Outside decks useful to smoke and eat in Covid restrictions times. More information on delays when at the dock waiting. Better updates on the web or a notice boards giving live information?
A. F.
We were charged for 2 tickets even though the super off peak ticket is suppose to allow travel for 2 adults travelling together! Otherwise the ferry was clean there and back, slightly delayed leaving but coming back we were running late and a member of staff got us on so we didnt have to wait an hour. Not too busy either.
S. Q.
C19 measures mean wearing a face covering whilst on-board. Outward journey was great, lovely wind. Return journey was packed and really hot so not as enjoyable. On time, easy drive on and disembark. Booked through our hotel and got a bargain.
P. W.
Usually very good, today the journey was delayed by an hour and the Red Osprey ship does not appear to have been cleaned before being bought in to service this morning.
S. G.
Foot passenger ramps at both ends broken. So having to go via car ramp far from ideal. Also lack of direction as to where to go for foot passengers. No visible staff at Southampton terminal when I went through. But the ferry journey was comfortable and pleasant.
C. P.
Stayed in Pagham for the week and decided to pop over to the isle of wight. Andrea was very helpful when we booked up by phone. Lovely bacon rolls on board while "cruising " as had quick early breakfast so as to catch the early ferry. Staff and crew very helpful as we have blue badge. Will be back in May.
J. T.
Got a great price if you travel with someone and go after 11am. Staff very helpful. Went out on the passenger ferry and back on the car ferry. Fab you can get drinks and snacks on board and at the terminals.
G. L. M.
As a person with limited mobility I appreciated the assistance of staff and crew, parking me near the lift, allowing extra room around my vehicle for entry exit. A pleasant voyage.
S. C.
Great service, left and arrived on time. Hi chairs on board could have done with a clean and the tables / chairs were a little grubby. Nothing a wet wipe couldn’t solve as we had a little one with us. Loading and unloading was very efficient. Lovely view from deck as you approach The harbour in East Cowes.
j. h.
Really well organised made it feel like part of the hoilday 👍
K. E.
Hey, cooked breakfast back on the menu. All service team were great, especially at check in, knew who we were before we handed in the ticket. All staff were great, be back next year@
L. S.
Made to feel very welcome by receptionist. Ferry fab, well organised, clear instructions by friendly staff. Beautiful trip fab views across the Solent.
H. P.
On time not too busy and pleasant staff,we travel frequently and on the whole we have no problems.clean and tidy toilets and food counter provides convenient food.
M. Y.
Convenient to take your car to and fro to Isle of Wright. One star less for two reasons a. Not enough seats for all passengers and b. Tickets more expensive on their site compared to a third party site.
K. S.
We found Red Funnel Ferries amazing. Staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Carlos (the good looking one)! He was especially helpful which we were grateful for. We had travelled from North Wales in our motorhome going to IOW and not familiar with the area.
T. D.
A fantastic ferry company very friendly staff both in the terminals and on board the ships I can highly recommend using Red Funnel to go to the Isle of Wight. The photos are taken on my return trip as I was coming into Southampton
R. K.
Not the most comfortable of crossings. More crowded than I have experienced in the past. Staff a bit thin on the ground and dogs allowed on the lower decks was not pleasant. This may have been down to the overcrowded upper deck.
A. C.
Was just running a little behind schedule but fuss free chec-kin, plenty of room inside and efficient marshalling of cars in and around the ferry. Would use again. Look for discount if staying overnight (via the accommodation)
L. D.
Very efficient service, breakfast on board was okay, a bit pricey but nothing more than was expected, comfortable seats and plenty of places to sit, very efficient getting on and off the ferry
L. C.
Excellent view and only had a few hours in the city after Job interviews. I see myself living there and love the people. Everyone was so friendly. Thought I was abroad after get through the mad London commuting. You hardly speak to anyone the entire trip
A. M.
Very clean. Food and drinks sold on board. We went from Portsmouth to Isle of white took hour. Comfortable seats
M. P.
The only problem I have on Red Funnel ferries is that they no longer have anything gluten free to eat, no sandwiches or a cake etc. Has been like this since Sainsburys provide the food, but that is odd as they have an excellent gluten free range in their stores. When you've had a long journey, a snack can be very welcome.
A. D. S.
Easy access, affordable price. Great people
J. W.
The crossing was nice and smooth. I wanted a drink from the bar but they were all closed with a sign asking to go to the food kiosk. Staff were friendly. Some of the safety signs are outdated and faded and on the Red Osprey.
A. H.
We wanted an earlier sailing. After asking nicely, they were able to help out. Very efficient service, like clockwork
A. V.
Fantastic experience on the red funnel. The ferry runs on a perfect schedule and sailing is super smooth.
A shout out goes out to the staff running the service an excellent team.
Safety is one of the my concern and I can say I was impressed.
Bon voyage
N. H.
Very seamless journey with staff having to accommodate my walking frame. Another member of staff very politely cleared away my plate. Thank you
K. R.
Always a good service and even squeezed us on an earlier ferry with our caravan when our original ferry departure was delayed due to a broken ferry.. Great service and super rates for touring too.
J. B.
Another well organised trip to Isle of Wight with Red Funnel Ferry. Always give great service and is always our first choice of travel to and from the island.
S. A.
We are a private medical firm and use red funnel alot. The staff at the entrance are always helpful qnd the boat staff can never do enough to help us . Thank you Red funnel staff you make this so much easier .
E. Y.
Good experience. Big ferry. Lots of boats & yatchs on the way to Isle of Wight from Southampton. You might also be seeing ships coming to the port. You can stay inside and enjoy the view through window, or stay outside and enjoy the wind. There is a restaurant inside to grab snacks. If you want to feel more comfortable, you can go inside the Signature lounge. Good experience.
W. R.
Ok ferry service, compared to the 5 stars I gave last time, things aren't great. Friendly and helpful staff as always is the only good thing. Food and drink availability isn't great. No alternative milk or butter available, as coffee is from a machine and Is Lavazza rubbish. Service is slow as always. Improvements could easily be made. Steam outlets also closed
L. C.
Lovely experience despite the dog lounge being full of a group of 90 children however the eating area is small and difficult to grab food from on such a short journey
F.
Was very busy due to the festival and heavy delays on the return journey - multiple hours. But staff were friendly despite being stretched so short.
S. G.
What can I say. Easy to book. Great prices with discounts for EVs. Easy to check in. Both sailings were on time. The vessels were comfy enough. A great way to get to the Isle of Wight. I’ll use them again next time and I have no hesitation in recommending Red Funnel to anyone planning on visiting the Island
M. C.
Used for Isle of Wight, no problem, from start to finish nice staff no delays can't fault anything ,,thanks red funnel.
C. C.
Great service and communication of their services on the day and lead up to travel. Staff and friendly and helpful.
A. P.
Great service, runs so smoothly. On and off .
on board dog friendly, good snacks recommended
S. G.
First class! Flexible with my booking, easy crossing. Great customer service if/when you call them
C. R.
Great way to get to the Isle of Wight if you're taking your own transport. Decided to visit the island on the spur of the moment and booking tickets was easy.
When we arrived,, as the journey there was far easier than expected, we arrived an hour earlier than our ferry. The attendant offered us a space on the 7am ferry that was close to docking.
This was great as it allowed us extra time on our first day.
Due to the early time we left home I had pre -booked spaces for us in the Signature Lounge..
These were still.valid even though we were early so within a couple of minutes of parking I was sat with a Cappuccino and a pastry in a really lovely area with great views. During the journey across we were served a second cup and could have had more if we wished. Well worth the money.
M. D.
Ferry to IoW ok no problems ,ferry back 1hr late ,then technical problems with one of the decks ,landed in Southampton 1½ hrs later than anticipated for the long drive home
M. W.
First time using Red Funnel towing our caravan very easy and straight forward. Steps to upper deck very narrow
p. c.
Friendly staff and dog friendly, however if you have nervous pets I would wait till last to access your car as the other passengers dash to get to their cars when docking is crazy and show disregard to personal space.
C. J.
We have used Red Funnel Ferries a lot since.mobing.to the Island 10 months ago. Overall we have been happy with the service we have received.
N. K.
Good experience with red funnel just the food shop was not as good as we thought. We ordered chips he gave us half of the portion chips and cold.
B. H.
Fantastic service they were very helpful when I turned up on the 25th on my bike wanting to go to the Isle of Wight on my bike.
Would definitely use this service again if I ever visit the island again.
D.
Easy checkin great friendly staff and an earlier sailing was available as we had a flexible ticket. Very pleased with the service.
H. O.
Nice ferry which is relatively quick for a car ferry although it was very crowded so that was my only problem
I. S.
Always good service and the refurb is good. Pasties are the hottest anywhere, takes half the trip to cool!
S. J.
Affordable price, no mess, on-time. Staff are very friendly and polite. Lot of food and drink options are available.
Recommended.
I. V.
Very nice experience. The dancing guy that guides the cars was awesome. You can have a very nice breakfast or lunch on board and you get a hot drink with it which is a refill cup. Overall really pleased
S. S.
Excellent service in all aspects friendly respectful helpful colleagues on all areas embarking on board and disembarking well done **
I. R.
Very efficient and clean.
Just the high cost of getting to the Isle of Wight, £170 return for a normal car.
Too much.
S. “.
Due to the festival weekend and a ferry breaking down, there were delays going and returning. Staff were friendly and helpful.
J. R.
Quiet and we manager an early sailing.
Food was reasonably priced and fresh.
H. P.
Lovely crossing, still under Covid restrictions when I used the ferry, very impressed how well organised.
I. P.
Very efficient way to travel to the Isle of Wight. The Signature lounge was very comfortable and the staff in the lounge and the boat were very friendly.
M. R. J.
Very efficient loading/unloading and timely service to the Isle of Wight.
Good on-board facilities cafe etc.
Sadly, grim toilet (portaloo) amenities, presently, at Southampton port, due to refurbishment.
Not a cheap crossing.
T. P.
Better than the other lot who have been to the Ryanair school of customer service. Red Funnel are very helpful although the food has gone downhill a little in my opinion.
J. F.
Easy on and off no problem staff lovely kid's first time on ferry want holiday on a ship now 😉 food lovely not bad prices only thing I would sort out is the kid's food items £4.99 you pick what you want sandwiches drink toy then it get a nightmare you get a snack fruit biscuits crisps it's say you can have all that which is good value but when you get to the till you spend half your time where the poor staff got to be adding & taking items away via the till but you end up with with all the items it's crazy as my 5 year old granddaughter would say 🤔
J. K.
Great prices. Great staff who are professional and friendly. Nice clean ferry. Great timing. Highly recommended and have nothing but positive things to say. Thank you
J. L.
Amazes me that all COVID restrictions have been removed, yet still won't accept cash for refreshments not everyone uses cards, leaving them with nothing onboard for an hour, I'll be voting with my feet and travelling with the only competition that does take cash, slightly longer journey on arrival to my destination but at least I can get a drink and crossing time is faster I prefer red funnel but until thisissue is resolved I'll be getting to the island and back via fishbourne
A. D.
Smooth sailing and a large shop and cafe inside where you could eat. Ample amount of comfortable seating.

On the 26th July I made my way to Osborne House on the Isle of Wight by coach trip. The day was in the heat wave we had during July 2018 and was very hot and humid. The trip over by Red Funnel Ferries was great, their ferries are very comfortable and much larger than the ones at Lymington, no criticism intended. Osborne House is a former royal residence in East Cowes, Isle of Wight, United Kingdom. The house was built between 1845 and 1851 for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert as a summer home and rural retreat. Prince Albert designed the house himself in the style of an Italian Renaissance palazzo. The builder was Thomas Cubitt, the London architect and builder whose company built the main facade of Buckingham Palace for the royal couple in 1847. An earlier smaller house on the site was demolished to make way for a new and far larger house, though the original entrance portico survives as the main gateway to the walled garden.
Queen Victoria died at Osborne House in January 1901. Following her death, the house became surplus to royal requirements and was given to the state, with a few rooms being retained as a private museum to Queen Victoria. From 1903 until 1921 it was used as a junior officer training college for the Royal Navy, known as the Royal Naval College, Osborne. In 1998 training programmes consolidated at the Britannia Royal Naval College which is now at Dartmouth, thus vacating Osborne House. The House now under the watchful eye of English Heritage is now open to the public for tours.
In 1903, the new stable block became a junior officer training college for the Royal Navy known as the Royal Naval College, Osborne. Initial training began at about the age of 13, and after two years studies were continued at the Royal Naval College at Dartmouth. The college closed in 1921, with the last students leaving on 9 April 1921. The traditions of Osborne helped inspire the operations of the Nautical College Pangbourne, after its founding in 1917. The NCP has now become Pangbourne College, but its students continue the tradition of wearing naval uniform, and maintaining certain naval traditions.
One of the buildings called Swiss Cottage in the grounds, here you will find inside, the story of the life of a Victorian royal child. Thanks to funding from donors including the Heritage Lottery Fund, vivid new displays, a garden trail and a new play area enable families to experience for themselves how the children of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert played and learnt in this unique and special place. Osborne House is famous for its selection of formal gardens containing rare and unusual plants, and there is also plenty of space to run around. Enjoy the formal walled gardens, visit the sheltered the Walled garden, admire the view the Solent from the Palm Terrace or visit the charming gardens which surround the miniature Swiss Chalet. As well as a stunning array of plants, rare red squirrels can be spotted amongst the trees. Gravel, tarmac and concrete provide access for all abilities. Benches and rest points are dotted throughout the grounds.
The organisers of the London Capital & Finance were holding an event day on the 25th and 26th July 2018. This meant many parts of the gardens could not be visited on these two days having been reserved for the visitors to these trials. Osborne Horse Trials hope to attract a new audience to the sport and to the Isle of Wight with this easy to follow two day eventing format. Horses will perform dressage and show jumping on the House lawns, before setting out across the estate parkland. Each phase will finish before the next commences, enabling spectators to see 70% of the action from one spot. Both days will feature two classes at open intermediate level with a Grand Prix class and three further categories tailored to either top level or less experienced horses. Pictures can be taken inside the house but not using flash. However Videos cannot be made while in the house itself.

Very good .Nice staff , nice crossing.Easy to book.Expensive...yes! But all the crossing are and comparable prices.
P. P.
Everything was well organised, the ferry was clean. Eating options available on ferry were sufficient. Overall had a good experience.
G. J.
Easy to find once you switch off Google maps.
Easy to get on and off
Journey uneventful but nice especially in the food weather.
Will use again
B. C.
Customer service is excellent .. nothing is too much. If there is something they can’t do they will always suggest something they can do to help..
J. Z.
Smooth experience crossing from Southampton to East Cowes. Maybe a small improvement in signage would be good, but don't think that's in Red Funnel's power to sort out. Can't fault the ferry trip itself though.
m. l.
Easy embarking both ways.Spacious and clean, comfortable and not too pricey, especially with vouchers.I have found booking staff polite and helpful too.
f.
Nice smooth journey, enough facilities for an hours crossing
h. p.
We arrived 1houre Earle and where told we will try and get you on the early one poring with rain and yes we got on to the we were the last one on but at least we did not have to to hang around in the car after a 6 hour journey thank you to the staff
C. W.
Excellent service and efficient boarding. Plenty of places to sit and good food service. The signature lounge is our stopping place with tea, coffee, hot choc, soft drinks and pastries to savour in a quiet environment but at extra cost.
Staff are excellent and know the routine extremely well.
D. E.
Trip from Soton is longer but very interesting! Cruise ships, tankers, tugs etc, and great views!
L. H.
Very professional experience from the minute we arrived at the ferry port till the time we landed on the Isle everything was perfect ,same coming home thank all the staff on board 👍
B. G.
One person serving hot foid , waited half an hour in queue only to find they had run out of eggs so had 2 wait again , woman serving did her best but she got few orders wrong, too much space taken for toys.gifts and sweets more room needed to serve hot food coz a lot of people gave up waiting as queue was way too long .
J. T.
Enjoyed dancing bloke guiding us onto the ferry at the Southampton terminal! Made everyone smile 😄
D. L.
Dead on time going out.
An hour early coming back into So'ton (because we got to East Cowes before the previous sailing left and Red Funnel let us on).
What more could we ask for for a super service.
Thank you.
P. W.
Took the Red Osprey from Southampton to East Cowes for a little staycation. Limited food and drink available on board and you have to eat and drink on the outer deck. Easy to book. Need to wear a face covering on all decks for the duration of the trip.
k. a.
It's a bus on water the most expensive strip of water to travel on . It's clean and has food on board
A. A.
That's the beautiful place where you can get fantastic views, sea, sunset and Mr whippy ice-cream for foodies
B. R.
Simple and easy procedure to drive through and get straight on the ferry. Couldn't fault it!
D. B.
Great trip over with the caravan.
M. B.
Very clean and efficient but definitely book far in advance. The cost can be astronomical if you don't.
G. A.
Toilets on board need sorting out. One ladies cubicle operational, the rest locked so presumably broken. The Q's for them was ridiculous. Update - 22/4/22 bought a large cappuccino £3- robbery! About 3/4 fluff 1/4 weak coffee. Not going there again!!
O. A.
Very smooth sailing...on time
A variety of food, nibbles, snacks and drinks to choose from...restrooms are clean
Didn't have to pay as payment was already included in the hotel package so not quite sure of prices.
Would recommend 👍
L. L.
Always have an amazing experience on this ferry. Staff is friendly and helpful
S. B.
I started off in England and ended up on the Isle of Wight.
It's like a time travel device
It got me here in one piece and I stayed dry. Whaddayaknow it works!
J. K.
I am a regular user and always find the staff of Red Funnel friendly, pleasant and helpful. Crossing are usually very pleasant ....definitely the best way to cross the Solent.....
G. H.
A great start to a short break on the Isle of Wight. From a hassle-free check in to a super crossing - the Signature Lounge is a must!
R. C.
Quite good, very busy and a lot of stairs, some people where really struggling with the stairs, the staff assisted best they could
t. l.
Great ferry service to the isle of wright. This a car and people service so a quick way to the idland for a short break
M. L.
Trip out to IoW was an hour delayed but we arrived in 45 minutes which was good! Trip back was prompt and easy
C. S.
Executive lounge cosy and they serve free drinks and muffins/cookies or sqeet bread.
m. m.
As of late they are always running late or cancelling ferries..
Cheaper than the competitors, however if you need to be somewhere at an exact time you need to travel extra early
A. C.
Really good early a.m. crossing, got a table, coffee and some work done. No idiots unusually 👍
M. S.
Very good efficient service polite staff will definitely use again
C. G.
Their is a lift available . They run pretty much on time. Should you miss your booked ferry. They will do there best to get you on the next one
E. M.
Always impressed with the smooth operation of check-in and loading/unloading. Always found the staff polite and helpful
H. R.
If you don't mind taking a second mortgage out for the ticket this really is value for money...
On a serious note the staff are always so welcoming and their Covid-19 provisions are reasonable and manageable. Red Funnel are a great source of information for places to go and visit and their terminal in East Cowes is a convenient location for access to the rest of 'The Island'.
Just don't forget your passport 😉 (I'm kidding, please don't ask us again)
S. K.
Had a great experience for trip to Isle of Wight..spacious..and separate lounges for pet.
D. T.
Good staff ferry was clean and tidy. Breakfast was ok bacon slightly over cooked but price is good. Used them there and back this morning would defo use again
R. E.
Lovely smooth ferry crossing from Southampton to Cowes. Loaded smoothly, crossed without a hitch, good food both ways and no drama at all.
Evening view was sensational watching the sunset!
S. Y.
A quick and inexpensive mode of transport to reach the Isle of Wight. The ferry terminal itself was very clean and had excellent social distancing measures in place due to Covid 19. Departure and arrival were punctual and well organised. Sadly, the ferry itself had seen better days, it was very rusty and paint was peeling off due to lack of maintenance, there was discarded rubbish on the decks and it was quite grubby overall. Our dogs enjoyed being on deck though although some passengers seemed to forget that social distancing measures were in place.
H. T.
Great service despite the crew being short-staffed over the weekend. Fast service between Cowes and Southampton 👍
K. C.
Very busy when i crossed chaotic trying to get a cuppa and something to eat .Crossing was smooth and quick
S. B.
Friendly efficient staff and easy boarding and disembarking. During covid food and drink available but to be consumed on deck and face covering worn inside. Very relaxing trip ☺️
p. b.
It's not too bad but for the price you have to pay just to get the island of Wight. 1,car, 3 passengers ££££. Need to bring the price down then they could get more customers
I. M.
The staff were helpful. The ferry tour was quick and safe. Big up!
G. S.
Very efficient service. All sorted online quick and easy and on arrival led to our lane without issue.
We turned up early in the hope of getting the early ferry and this was catered for no questions asked.
Directed to our spot with enough time to get into place before being followed in.
On board everything went smooth, was running 15 minutes late, but this is to be expected when trying to load so many vehicles on.
Only issue i had was the toilets are extremely small, not enough for each deck and the coffee machines were out of order, meaning queuing at the bar to be told that one may not work either. It did so all was well.
The food isn't bad considering it is mass prepared. Bit pricey but that is to be expected.
Not many people abiding by red funnels request for all eligible people to wear face masks no one seemed to be questioning it. I know it is no longer law but if it is a condition of travel it should be followed.
Over all it is a very well run service.
S. C.
Easy boarding, no fuss, dogs very welcome, discount for electric vehicles, fantastic thank you.
K. C.
Booking was trouble-free, as was everything about the crossing, which takes about one hour. Comfortable lounge seating area if you don't wish to go on deck. Cars on and off efficiently.
K. W.
Having traveled on the service regularly during the last 12-18 months I have always been impressed by the punctuality and professionalism observed.
Eaten onboard for the first time this visit the chips were nice however burger was lacking - probably wouldnt order again.
Nice smooth journey that arrived on time
l. f.
Claire on the red funnel helped us as my sister missed the boat and helped us guide her to get the next red jet . So we can all enjoy Mother’s Day together. With out you Claire she wouldn’t be spending today with us we can’t thank you enough .
M. G.
The staff is super friendly and nice!
You can take your bike on board without additional cost. You can buy tickets in the ticket office and (which is more helpful) next to the ferry entrance there is an automatic machine!
The ferry has tasty food and plenty of seating space.
The cost is quite steep: £20 return from Southampton (on feet or with a bike).
A. R.
Expensive! If they brought down the price of coffee and snacks I'm sure more will buy instead of bringing their own sandwiches. Found it a bit dirty too, I don't think it's cleaned between crossing. Staff are friendly and helpful though.
S. T.
Once again a huge thank you to Red Funnel for your excellent customer service, clean ferries, friendly staff and running a prompt service.
You've done good again
Happy New year
M. H.
Journey was all Wight. Enjoyed a ferry good day on the island.
J. C. #.
As always I would rate Red Funnel ferries better than Wightlink ferries, due to price and reliability.
They tend to be far more reliable as Wightlink cancelled so many ferries over the past few years.
A. W.
Great service, cheaper, more reliable and so much more welcoming than Wightlink. Prices are still extortionate though just for a short stretch of water.
P. W.
I regularly holiday on the Isle of Wight and, in recent years, have always used Red Funnel. The service is efficient and well organised and I prefer arriving at Cowes as it is so much more visually inviting than Fishbourne if you come over on Wightlink from Portsmouth. Last time I checked, Red Funnel were slightly cheaper than Wightlink but it's still really expensive for such a short journey, in my opinion. I think I paid about £170 in August 2018 for a return with 4 people in the car - not sure whether passenger numbers make any difference, to be honest.
C. H.
Staff were very helpful and efficient especially on the ferry loading. Ferry left on time in both directions and are well equipped with food and drink areas. Would have given 5 stars but the cost of the fares still wrankles with me
A. A.
Booked the Signature Lounge.
Fantastic service and very comfortable. First class service
M. D.
Arrived 3 hrs early but still got on 1200 ferry. Ferry had organised plenty of puddles on the outside deck for grandson number 1 to splash about in resulting in wet shoes socks and trousers. Grandma not too happy with granddad for some reason!
C. B.
Excellent service. Carefully choreographed to fit everyone in. Only complaint is exorbitant prices for tea and coffee...
J. H.
Very efficient loading, smooth crossing same for disembark great service
И. Б.
Great booking service, needed to amend legs and always friendly and helpful staff
P. C.
Very efficient and helpful staff, ferries run regularly and on Time. A very good service.
J. W.
Loved my trip on Red Falcon. Good Covid precautions in place & a great dog lounge. Recommend.
R. R.
I noticed they have some nice sturdy cycle racks inside on the Red Jet I caught today. My family can bring their bikes over for a change.
G. B.
Excellent Excellent
Staff all polite friendly helpful
Using to come to 🏝 for years
s. g.
Easy loading and disembarkation. Comfy on board. Good café. Relaxing trip to and from the Isle of Wight.
A. B.
Never had issues getting across the Solent either way with Red Funnel. Good bargains can be found for fares if you sign up for an account and you can earn discounts for onboard food. The new Signature private lounge is awesome, but at £10 per person per crossing is a bit steep. I used it once and free good WiFi , pastries and coffee was nice and on a very busy crossing I felt like royalty
J. B.
Book tickets online to travel to East Cowes, with NHS discount it was 17.16. Ferry departed on time. All staff friendly and helpful.
I. W.
Very good let us on the earlier ferry and wasn't very busy which was nice
T. R.
They got us and our car to the other side, and back again, alive and dry. Can't penalise them for the stupidity of some of the other passengers and so it's a five from me.
A. F.
Very easy to use, well managed and quick boarding. Would defo use again
P. W.
Amazing and efficient driving on and off the Ferry. Great facilities on board.
S. W.
Has to be 5*.. for ease of website, booking, the actual crossing. No issue, no delay. Assuming they use ANPR at the booking office cause they knew who we were before we'd even spoke (as we drove in). Ferry was well stocked clean sanitised and comfortable.. over all tween service, prices.. no brainer these are the people to see! Looking forward to our next visit.
l. h.
Great service not a long wait very fast on and off
S. 6.
I love the views when on the ferry very windy outside but very nice ride over seas
R. S.
Red Funnel Ferries are the main means of getting to the Isle of Wight. They run nominally every hour, out and return. They are as would be expected extremely efficient in loading and unloading vehicles to and from the ferry with an absolute minimum of inconvenience to user. The crew are pleasant to talk to and most helpful. The passengers accommodation deck is good especially being able to take pets. The interior where food and drink is available with comfortable seating in the lounge.
D. B.
Very efficient , numberplate recognition confirmed my name and ticket , arrived 5 minutes before departure and pretty much drove straight on. Cooked breakfast for and a can of redbull for the drive home.
S. F.
Always used red funnel for my trips to the island never had one problem in 10 years.
p. d.
The ferry from Southampton to the Isle of Wight and return with Red Funnel was excellent.
Would highly recommend
b.
Never had a problem with this ferry company. occasionally there’s break downs but these things can’t be helped and they try there best to clear the back log my number one ferry choice
D.
Was a bit crammed on deck considering the covid rules, with no one really paying attention or enforcing rules. We just hid inside to try and escape the crowds.
D. P.
Very efficient but very expensive! One of the most expensive stretches of water to cross in the world, I would think!
H. S. K.
I was a first timer using the car ferry. It was all smooth except that the staff at the entry gate could have told me where lane 6 was, as it involved turning in a way I did not expect. After a false start I finally worked it out in time. Boarding and disembarking were very smooth, the coffee not exorbitantly priced, and the promenade deck a joy.
M. R.
The new Red Falcon ferries are absolutely superb, modern and the bar (with local Isle of Wight beers) is brilliant.
I've always had a pleasant crossing with Red Funnel. If it's warm enough you can head outside and watch your Solent crossing. Otherwise grab some food from the on-board cafe, pick a spot to relax for just under an hour and enjoy!
G. C.
10 mind late leaving cowes, but staff were good going and coming back.
M. T.
The staff are all very friendly and the service is overall very good, the price of the breakfast has gone up for 2022, but the food is still pretty good and not bad value for money (£7.50 with a coffee).
D.
Took the car to IOW, and didn't sink. Big queues inside for food/coffee
R. c.
Nice ride down Solent , Coffee tastes good most times plenty of space to sit down depends on what is going on on the island at the time.or if you don't mind the sea breeze / fresh air go outside and look at the boat's.
M. S.
Does the job and food was remarkably good. Hope my return journey fairs aswell.
C. T.
This was a great experience. We decided to opt for the signature suite which was excellent and would recommend this everytime .
G.
No complaints at all. Easy to find, load on, enjoy the crossing, and get off again.
R. H.
Boat well organised, crew friendly. Had a really good breakfast on the morning ferry
L. F.
Excellent, on time. No problems at all.
Great service.
S. M. D.
Booked online easy process . Well organised boarding and disembarking. Clean lounges but still expensive but not as overpriced as other routes to the isle of Wight.
M. L.
Seamless process from arrival to departure plus the best fries ever from the onboard kitchen!
p. v.
Very friendly service, professional all around. Everything clean and tidy
N.
Amazing Costomer service... the boat was clean and well kept. Makeing our journey to the isle of wright comfortable.
D. L.
Views are nice on the crossing, But hey it's a ferry it depends on the weather.
S. N.
Great service. No fuss. Friendly and helpful staff. Very efficient turnaround. Thoroughly recommend.
C. F.
Gets you off the Island and costs money. You can get offers with Red Funnel which help bring the cost down a bit.
It might be coincidence, but since the introduction of the Signature Lounge I seem to end up standing the whole journey.
There isn't much at the terminal Island side, but you can get food on the ferry which is great for the early morning trips.
L. M.
Fantastic service. Very friendly staff. Professional staff. A real pleasure to usr and do easy. Good facilities on board. One lift out of order on way back which was a little disappointing but these things happen. I would definetly recommend and look forward to using them again
D. W. (.
Very good quality and friendly team working in the port area and the ferry.
N. B.
Lovely crossing with beautiful views. Modern on board facilities with bar and restaurant.
L. T.
Very organised and well managed for vehicles boarding either end of the trip. Very little waiting around and when we were on the ferry, it was clean and tidy. We went on a Saturday which was busy but there were no delays whatsoever.
B. K.
Loved it! Spacious, clean, comfortable and good food. Highly recommended!
K. B.
From Southampton to the Isle of Wight Red Funnel have been a major link between the two places.
I’ve used this service many times over the years and it is always a nice trip.
The most memorable being in thick fog up on the outer deck. A blast from the foghorn made me jump!
55 minutes journey enables you to walk around and grab a bite to eat and drink too.
M. T.
On time and friendly speedy service. Can't say the same about some of the passenger's.
P. L.
Easy on, Easy off, and a good range of refreshments.
A. S.
Love it just dont travel with kids football team over excited and noisy bring ear plugs
T. Y.
Only collecting and dropping off member of family with a baby but no easy parking available.
C. E.
Fish and chips, yes please! Thank you for the chef’s who cooked and extra fish for us. Thank you!
V. G.
Kept us informed by text about best time to arrive. Car ferry queues were organized very well. Our onward ferry was delayed by over 30 mins (to depart). Toilets inside the ferry were reasonably clean.
Disembarking was quick, no undue delays.
M. E. S.
Nice, well organised and clean. Staff very helpful and visible if you need them. Good cafe/canteen and reasonably priced. You can usually get some really good deals/vouchers to make the crossing more affordable. Really helps knowing people who live on the island for that. This is my preferred way to cross to the Isle of Wight
R. T.
Great service & only 1 hour to IOW
We watched the port arriving having coffee
P. G.
Ferry service was fine but on the trip out the lift was not working and still hadn't been repaired 5 days later on our return. This meant a difficult climb up a lot of steep stairs.
People who had walking disabilities could board a different was but that meant going up quite a steep ramp so not ideal.
m. w.
Well organized ferry crossing and they kept you informed about what was happening throughout the journey.
T. H.
Crossing went smoothly, professional and well organized. Outbound slightly choppy and not too busy. Journey back really smooth crossing but really busy was glad to get off, can't be helped under pandemic conditions. Service highly recommended looking forward to our next crossing. Thanks keep up the great work you all do.
B. M.
Super friendly staff, always ready to help and had a smile on there faces!
C. H.
Nice easy journey , staff all nice had a breakfast which was ok. Sausages abit funny.
c.
Very convenient ferry, I found it to be cheaper than the one from Portsmouth. They serve food on board which is a little pricy. just be aware that when boarding on the Isle of Wight side it gets very busy.
B.
Always excellent ! Efficient helpful friendly. Previously only used Wightlink but not any more ! Modern clean comfortable ships with very affordable food & drink. Free wifi too.
A. P.
Was easy to get to and was clearly told where to wait to bord
J. S.
Excllent service both ways to the Isle of Wight from Southampton. The service is prompt and staff on the dock and on board are helpful and courteous. Plenty of food and drink on board although with the service taking an hour its not always neccesarily required. Dog friendly areas available and fully accesible to wheelchair users. Provides some stunning views on a good day from the outer decks.
D. S.
Great service. I caught the4 am boat.
J. H.
Had a lovely trip over to the island a nice smooth ferry crossing
j. v. n.
Good service...more attention to the loos where a lot of of paper mopping up "water"
M. B.
Arrived early and was offered a n earlier ferry. Slick easy service.
J. M.
Both the outward, and the return journeys were exactly on time. The ferry itself, including the toilets on board, were very clean.
I felt COVID safe to be on board. I didn't purchase any food, but the offerings looked and smelled delicious.
M. J. (.
A fantastic, friendly and comfortable service. I cannot recommend enough
P. S.
Good service. It takes close to 1 hour to reach Isle of Wight from Southampton. This is for people who want to go to Isle of wight along with cars or coaches. There is red jet boat service which takes less than 30 mins for only passenger service. Nice view from ferry. Overall enjoyed the experience.
B. H.
Good under circumstances, Isle of Wight Festival was on.
P. T.
Easy to find, reliable service and friendly, helpful staff. We arrived late for the ferry and they were still happy to place us on standby and get us on the next ferry. On board, the staff we ready to assist and ensure that the service ran to time.
M. C.
An efficient service, made my journey seemless.
T. B.
Nice place.
R. F.
Better value when you can use a discount code, some islanders share theirs. Ferries are a little tired and dated, toilets in desperate need of care. Traffic at Southampton is a nightmare and the delay in getting off is caused by a poor junction. Staff are very good, was going to give them 3* but dancing Jim cheered us up at the end of our journey.
C. c.
Good but failed on 1 no pork pies 2 no afternoon tea and cakes
J. S.
We were late arriving as we had a problem with our car (keys locked inside). The 2pm ferry was very busy and running late but they managed to fit us on. Thank you so much. We have used red funnel on many occasions and have always been very impressed.
R. D.
Had some serious issues with delays. Was told that my ferry leaves at 5pm even though I booked the 1pm ferry, was told via text to arrive at the docks at 16:30. Then I received a text from them at 15:30 telling me to arrive at 15:15 as my ferry was pulled forward an hour. I ended up on the 18:30 ferry. Once on it though the service was excellent, it was clean and tidy and the staff were apologetic. Didn't help me though as I was due to pick up a load at 5pm. No compensation was offered even though it cost me £148 for the return ticket.
D.
Impressive customer service, very smooth check in, no delays
K. R.
NICE EASY CHEAK IN AND HASSEL FREE CROSSING FAST AND EFFICENT
POLITE STAFF
Y. A.
Easy and quicker to get in and out of the island. Expect some delays not usual. Wight link services slightly better but hv to travel through Portsmouth
M. M.
Probably The Best Experience & Cost of Travelling to the Isle of Wight with a vehicle & passengers. Dog friendly Ships. Takes just 1 Hour from Southampton. Hot buffet with Excellent morning Breakfasts. Great Experience always had and very competitively priced compared with other carriers.
A. K.
Easy way to get across from mainland to Isle of Wight. Beautiful seascapes! Can be pricy when booked at short notice, so best to prebook.
G. B.
Our ferry was on time and we were boarded efficiently. The ship is clean and well maintained and there were plenty of seats. The on board shop is expensive (even though it's Sainsbury's).
H. H.
Very crowded but not surprising as it was peak time on a sunny Saturday. Efficient and helpful staff. Everything worked and boat was clean. On time too, so no complaints and would happily travel with them again.
P. B.
Had a great experience Red funnel extremely helpful when i had to move my sailing due to illness.
S. B.
Always use red funnel as they are cheaper than the other ferry service to the island generally, and they do rather good food, I like to use the priority loading option as it gets me off before the lorries and gives 20% off food. So if having a meal a lot of what you pay you get back

Good smooth crossing, we used the Signature Lounge and was comfortable with complimentary refreshments had a cream tea which was good. Crew member was friendly and attentive.

The staff are always friendly.
The terminal on both ends have facilities that are usually clean and tidy. In Southampton it's sometimes a bit far from other shops etc, but in Shanklin there's a large number of local shops nearby if you're early and need that wait.
The food on the ferry is well priced and tasty. Usually worth eating on board if you're on a a long trip.
It can be a chore to get a decent seat in peak times, but usually there's plenty of choice, unless it rains!
Dog friendly in dog lounges and outside, otherwise dogs and other creatures must be left in the vehicle.
Has a good selection of magazines and leaflets about the island on board, some with vouchers etc in.
Car ferry takes about an hour of crossing and ferry are regular. Other faster ferries are available, but this is most convenient and breaks up longer journeys.
Never had a bad experience in years of using them, but prices have been going up a lot and not much competition.

Very Nice Waiting Area :-) Pleasant Staff. Warm :-) The Cafe is Delicious I love the Coffee & Cakes Selection

Lovely trip to the I.O.W with the dogs...ferry was on time...clean and helpful staff..
J. G.
Ferry on time leaving the island. Coming home arrived early and put on 5pm ferry although booked on 6PM lovely and clean and not crowded
G. M.
The ferry is very busy now due to holidays. Please make sure you arrive in good time for your sailing..
Drinks and souvenirs on sale but you can't eat or drink inside you have to go on top deck.
There's disability access and lifts. I find them helpful and reliable. If you miss your ferry they will try and get you on next if possible.
Free WiFi connection available. Crossing is average 1 hrs. They tend to load 15 mins before.
Please keep children supervised as it can get busy on deck and it stops accidents. Toilets on board.
K. I.
Really great service. Friendly and helpful staff
R. B.
A bit haphazard when trying to get a drink as now it is out of a machine gone has the free top up boo hoo red funnel
j. m.
Red jet off peak price decent and with a great crossing time could do with some parking on the Cowes side but other than that it's good
A. P.
Off peak this was incredibly quick and easy to park up in line and wait for the ferry. There are limited facilities on site but reasonable cafe with snacks are available.
M.
3rd time sailing. Can get full on times but as low cost ferries go they don't get much better. Food decent and staff friendly. Also quick boarding and disembarking. Pet friendly areas on board also which is a bonus.
F. P.
Ferry Line between Southampton and the Isle of Wight. Ferry takes approx 1h to transfer between both ports. Crew are friendly and helpful. Ferries themselves are regular ferries, nothing fancy.
R. W.
The best car ferry service to the iow out of Southampton 10/10 would sail again
M. L.
Great trip back from IOW. Sat outside with husband and dog in the sunshine.
W. D.
Quick and easy loading. Very friendly staff. Smooth crossing.
H. H. Z.
Very good service. All nice and smooth. Just perfect.
L. F.
Easy to get to, clean spacious decks good for disabled people.
K. M.
Nice ferry with a lovely viewing platform but bit expensive.
M. R.
Got the red jet from Southampton to the Isle of Wight. Great service with friendly staff.
J. C.
Supposed to be near a lift, weren't. The dog area is only accessible by stairs, so I can't get there. By the time we got to the seating, it was all taken and none allocated for those that have a need. Really needs more thought.
A. S.
Can be very expensive and often running late
I. H.
Great service, perfect timing very prompt, and the signature lounge was very comfortable.
A. P.
I used the ferry as a foot passenger and had a lot of luggage in a trolley, a fantastic young lady called Laura helped me pull my trolley up the ramp, she then stayed with me in the queue and helped me board and stow my luggage, all the staff are super friendly and helpful would definitely travel with them again
K. E.
Great effiecnt ni delays nice staff
T. T.
Good crossing very accommodating as I missed the booked ferry after picking my mother from the hospital. They made sure we got on the next ferry to get my mother home safe, thankyou.
D. K.
The food was incredible, it really surprised me
S. E.
Excellent service. We arrived early at the port and even without asking put us on an earlier crossing which was nice of them. Well organised getting on and off the ship and the signature lounge, which we paid £5 extra for was empty and included a couple of drinks so was good value and made us even more safe. I was impressed
a. b.
Good way to get to the Island, friendly staff, chilled way to start you trip
C. Y.
Good service quick loading very popular very clean boat. We have a good journey every time we use them.
D. T.
Really easy journey. Was expecting it to be more of an ordeal. Literally drove in , parked up, waited to be called forward onto the ferry. Good facilities on the ferry. Nice journey across, drove straight off the other end!..no drama!!
S. S.
Was unwell from the food 🤷 English breakfast how can that may u unwell was messy.
P. H.
Very busy . Still left on Time.
Good food 😋
D. S.
They got us on early and the staff were excellent
M.
A nice short trip. Friendly staff and nice views.
P. W.
Quick crossing although got delayed in both directions due to Cowes week being on.
Y. S.
Friendly service and runs on time. If you want to catch an earlier ferry (for cars) it's always worth asking as they keep a separate lane (often 4) for emergency/additional drivers/cars.
G. M.
Mixed review tbh.
Never really on time for my commute which makes a mockery off the 99% on time statistic on the screens and i think island residents who commute should get priority of rude holliday makers.
Sanitisers all run out and general covid awareness now completely gone which is worrying.
Staff are always amazing and have quiet frankly a thankless task and should probally be paid better.
Need some attention to the issues raised pleased.
N. K.
Good experience. Much more economical compared to its competition.
D. U.
The most reliable of the two ferry companies despite covid.
S. S.
I know these folks get a rough deal but they do their best.
I had a personal issue which meant I had to get to the island quickly, they were fully booked but squeezed me on. Thank you.
b. r.
Great experience but closed things Kinda early but we did have some bad weather
M. a. R. T.
It's a ferry. You get what's on the tin. Very efficient operation.
M. A.
Not the best experience.
No alcohol served on board.because of covid. But pubs, restaurants & football grounds serve beer. Poor staffing. Rude at times.
Problems with the ferry's themselves. Poorly manned. Only allowed beer if you upgrade to a table service in a totally different partnof the boat for about £11 per person.
When the ferry is busy the road outside is a nightmare. No information from the staff. No updates. Your kind of just willing the traffic to move and hope for the best.
Not a good experience this year after 30 years of using red funnel to visit the Isle of Wight. Some upgrades need to be done, staffing needs to be sorted and prices to be looked at if full services aren't offered.
Such a shame.
I. A.
Good ferry service. Affordable meals on board.
T. R.
Very helpful despite two crossings having to be rearranged due to covid
E. T. B.
Nice experience, clean and quiet.
S. L.
Great watching tbe ships come in.great pubs around for a drink and food
B. H.
2pm ferry today was 45 mins later . But skipper apologised due to a technical fault . Not a problem as our and staff safety comes first. Thankyou for keeping us informed of why we were late. I'd rather be late and safe . Not too crowded . Lots of social distancing on the top deck. : )
K. S.
Didn't like the fact all foot passengers were made to walk through all the large vehicles to get off the ferry it was extremely dangerous I had a buggy with me and I almost got stuck trying to get through two large vans
L. F.
Lovely staff and easy to get to fantastic crossing
D. P.
Great place to see the ferries and other ships up close. Hard working staff, from ground staff to loaders & unloaders right through to the checking in girls. Well done everyone.
D. S.
Easy to book, quick to get through the queue and onto the boat
M. C.
Excellent service as always. Arrived early and was moved to an earlier sailing at no cost!
S. C.
Reliable service and friendly staff, but totally over priced. Why is this more expensive than the channel crossing?
I. W.
Come earlier and walk along the pier, then you can see how it beautiful.
l. b.
Quick boarding nice drivers lounge hot foot & drinks resalable price's
P. M.
A good service but boat we were put on was late running earlier service. Had we waited for OUR ferry we would have still been on the IOW 90 minutes later.
M. K.
Good service overall satisfied.
M. T.
Very good ferry sevice to the isle of Wight, good staff & punctual
B. D. B.
Wonderful journey with my dog . Very clean and excellent service. Love how it was so dog friendly even had fresh water out and a inside area just for dogs. Defo will use red funnel again.
C. H.
Good service. On-board prices expensive

A smooth and hassle free crossing from Southampton to Cowes. We were travelling by coach on a busy bank holiday, lots of cars, caravans and scooters but embarkation was quick and orderly and the ferry ran on time. A very long flight of stairs up to the passenger decks but there's also a lift. There are three lounges, toilets and a bar where you can get sandwiches, wraps and drinks, and also vending machines and a shop where you can buy refreshments, souvenirs, toys and travel essentials. Card payments only. The lounges were very crowded and social distancing difficult so I spent most of the hour-long sail on the outside deck, where there were plenty of seats, fresh sea breezes and great views. Passed a couple of enormous cruise liners as we left Southampton and all kinds of vessels big and small - and a few daredevils on fast jet skis! - along the Solent. Had an enjoyable sail and disembarking was well organised and surprisingly quick. Would be happy to sail with Red Funnel again.
r. w.
As always clean and comfortable. Check in staff very helpful and got us on to an earlier ferry which was delayed due to a gigantic container ship full of rubbish crawling out of Southampton docks delaying all other traffic. Why the ferries are not given priority never ceases to amaze us.
S. B.
Well organized easy place for boarding ferry. The crossing takes around one hour and has good views on both sides of Southampton water until you reach Calshot where the ferry crossing the water between the main land and the Isle of Wight
J. A.
On arrival booking after 18:00 must be done over the phone very frustrating 😑
J.
Fantastic service, great price. Nice and easy process to board the ferry then enjoy a hot drink in the signature lounge (additional fee too book of 5 pounds but we'll worth it) .
b. P. B. A.
My review for signature lounge
Just pay £10 extra and you will get top service, unlimited cold or hot drinks, belgian pastries and on top of them very relaxing atmosphere
V. S.
I went isle of wight by this cruise
Amazing experience good

Recently used Red Funnel to cross to and from the Isle of Wight. Departed Southampton bang on time with no issues accessing the port or getting onto the vessel with my car. Staff were professional and courteous throughout the experience and was enjoyed by all in my family on the way out. Returning was slightly delayed but staff kept everybody waiting informed and the service departed as fast as possible once docked. Overall would definitely recommend. We sailed on Red Falcon both legs and the ship was tidy, clean and plenty of Covid related signs, markers and hand sanitizers scattered around the walk way
H. N.
I always recommend Red Funnel.....it is by far the best. Great service too. 😊
L. C.
Easier to book than wight link and cheaper
a stress free experience
W. L.
BRILLIENT staff all upbeat and friendly. So helpful and knowledgball too.... Well worth the extra £11.50 to go into the lounge views and service EXCEPTIONAL 😁😁 BEST WAY TO TRAVEL TO THE ISLAND X

professional service...
P. B.
Friendly helpful staff. Really looked after us
J. A.
Great service, new ferries and cheaper than Wightlink.
Update: still brilliant. New website soon I'm told which will hopefully fix any niggling faults with the current one.
R. S.
Regularly travel to the island .ferries are clean and the staff are ok but during the summer there are always delays and never on time .no apologies or explanations. What you gonna do ,cant swim there. All ferriy3comoanies have you by the short and curlies.
R. S.
Enjoyed complimentary snacks in signature lounge. 😄
J. P.
We had a very good crossing from & to the Isle of Wight.
p. a.
Despite an emergency out of Red Funnels control I think they DoD a great job in keeping the traffic moving.
The Checking innards leaves a lot to desire given the volume of vehicles waiting to board.
Feel sorry for residents as it's right on their doorstep.
But overall a slick system
L. C.
Always a good service and crossing, wish prices were cheaper to be honest ,them we would cross to mainland more often but sometimes it's cheaper to shop on line that go across for the day ,ships usually clean ,staff friendly 😊
R. j.
A great sale on this boat. Not many people wearing masks which is worrying when there are so many people crammed into one place. Lots of queues for food and cafe staff in the seating area were a bit dappy!!
S. P.
All went quite smoothly was 15mins delay but with what they do I think that was nothing. Dont like the idea that you have to get out your cars but safety thing I assume. Food also onboard even though it's only about an hour across. 8.5 /10
J. G.
Always used for business and not once had any issues , even at times staff have went above and beyond to be helpful.
V. N.
Very busy for the Easter weekend, but nevertheless great
A. E.
Red Funnel Ferries are Fab and are a great way to visit the Isle of Wight. Take the train to Southampton Central & there is a very nice connecting Quay Bus just outside the South Exit of the Station. Now as with many issues fares are..interesting.. the best way is a return to West Cowes (21) or single to East Cowes and do a round trip via both. On the longer trip to East Cowes the ferry has a 1st Class Lounge. All in all great staff, I'd add they should know more about their tickets..like taking the £2 bus fare off the ferry fare..as part of encouraging visitors to the Island in these staycation days, however thanks to all.
S. G.
The service ran to time both crossings but we were both appalled and disgusted by the vume of passengers who were wandering about without Masks and also the fact that there were dogs in passenger lounge on B Deck where people were eating and drinking. There did not appear to be any control over these measures so will certainly think.twice about using them the next time unless they tighten up rules regarding Masks etc.
d.
Amazing service as normal. Except with how busy they are at the moment your ferry leaves later than planned. And you pay through the nose but it’s still a great service.
A. S.
Stable and quick trip from Southampton to west cowes in Isle of Wight.
