Reviews of Thames Chase Forest Centre
Good place for a wander / dog walk / bike ride. It's not particularly big, so explorable in a couple of hours or so. Paths are good for cycling, either taking your own or hiring there.
There is lots of parking for only £1 for the day which is very reasonable. There is also a cafe in the visitors centre serving drinks and snacks, plus toilets, small play area and picnic benches.
Went here for the first time with family and hired bikes for an hour. Reasonable priced hire and good bikes for all. Friendly staff and some very picturesque surroundings and trafficless pathways. Good for a dog walk, walk and explore with kids. Worth visiting as many different walks, cafe and little shop.
The two ladys in the cafe were very moody. One that served us was pretty abrupt. I spoke to a lady I know and she walked out because of them.Being friendly is a big factor working with the public.
We go there a fair amount and the man that works there is pretty good but working with them two would make you like them.It is a nice place but will think again if I see them two behind the counter.
A lovely place for a walk or cycle. Kids play area. Sadly the cafe doesn't open any more.
This is a great place to have a lovely bike ride - the little lanes are of a nice width making it easy to ride side by side or in a single file when there are walkers. It really is a little bit of paradise. The people that work in the information centre are always ever so helpful.
They have replaced the highway rat trail with a zog trail. Kids still had a great time and enjoyed the new things along the way. Love this country park!
Thames Chase is an oasis of calm and peace, it’s huge so no matter how busy it is it never feels crowded. It is a shame that most of the play equipment they had here pre-Covid has now gone as it means there is less to do but it doesn’t make it any less lovely. The cafe is good too.
One of many great country parks we have on our doorstep - here are the key points to know:
- Parking is pay and display, £2 Summer / £1 winter
- Cafe is fantastic, suitable for all, lots choice for full meals and cakes etc
- Toilet facilities, but take a mask as they're in the cafe : )
- Small bike rental / service area
- Hard-pack paths that are fine for kids bikes with stabilisers etc, generally very level and well maintained
- Lots of little routes that can be taken off the main paths to explore the woods
- Miles of track and tonnes of woodland; great for dogs and budding explorers
Great parking £1 all day out of season £2 all day high season. Various walking trails. Children's trail. Lovely outdoor space for picnics. Small cafe with inside/outside seating. Helpful and happy staff. Visitor centre.Toilets with babychange and disabled facilities. Well worth a visit for a low budget day out
Loved our visit here. The shop is charming, the trail was fabulous! A lovely walk for children. Lots of hard track, great for cycling, scooting or running.
Height restriction on the car park of 6ft6in, but this is unlocked Monday to Friday from 9 - 3.45 (please check with site this is still correct).
Parking fee applies, pay and display
Large car park. (£1 during our visit).
Parking fees at the time of our visit:
1st Nov - 20th March £1
21st March - 31st Oct £2.
Discovered this place for the first time last month and can’t wait to come back! Beautiful walking space with a clear path, open space, cute streams / rivers and a lovely little visitor centre and cafe with great coffee and food !! Must try!
Lovely country park and visitor centre
Great walks, wondefful cafe and helful staff
Lovely walk whilst social distancing with a few members of our Walking for Health group. Good venue for walking with lots of alternative routes.
All facilities were open but with careful distancing routes in and around the central building .
Great park. Play areas currently shut due to Corona (signs had said a couple of weeks back that they'd be open but new signs say they're shut).
Paths are good for little people to ride bikes on as they're the fine gravel.
Cafe selling prepackaged stuff at the moment.
There's places you can do brass rubbings linked to the gruffalo as well.
Lovely place to go for a walk with the little ones. My son enjoyed playing at the different kids spots scattered throughout the grounds.
Bring some change as parking here isn't free. It cost £2 for the day. Also be cautious when you are driving up the road to the centre as you can only fit one car at some points.
We came when there was a Christmas Market inside the Thames chase visitor centre and it had lots of cute little stands selling things like homemade bird boxes, jewellery and bread
The park here is nice although close to the M25 so a bit noisy. For the kids it is excellent with at least 3 well built play areas. The shop is nice but cafe is expensive and doesn't serve much variety in food. A mediocre selection of sandwiches which they don't even make on order so once they run out that it!
A good cafe would make this place excellent.
Great walk with the dog and kids on a Saturday morning. Nice cafe if you want as drink before or after!
Great wedding venue. Had a marvellous time. Guests loved it.
Lovely open space, picnic areas and walks.
Great place to walk with grandchildren
Playground is mainly for older children.
Great place for family walks, especially good for buggies and bikes as nice and flat. Lovely cafe and shop on sight, as well as toilets, plus a playground and picnic area. Ample parking too.
Good walking on paths which are a bit puddley in places but with the weather, to be expected. So good to see people out enjoying a walk, run or bike ride.
Nice even walkways and circular main paths. Ample parking, cafe and shop on site.
Great for dog walking.Activities for kids with a good play area. Has a shop and rooms for educational activities. Has a nice sized cafe that sells all the usuals. Has also good tracks for running which I find useful. Overall a nice, clean park
Love the walks, the cafe is awful though. Overpriced and rude. Such a shame, used to be lovely,
Big area outdoors with alot of routes to take we took our dog and I was very dog friendly. Had a very nice picnic area with a large cafe which was decently priced.
Nice to ride round as part of my ride good coffee break and something to eat
Lovely place to walk plenty of paths to walk round. Lots of work going on with drainage being improved.
Parking is valuefor money compared to Thorndon park
This is a lovely place to bring children. Nice play area and excellent bike hire available @ £5 an hour! Nice clean cafe area too.
Very well kept and a nice place for families and children. It's can get very busy so I wouldn't recommend running, biking, or walking a dog at peak times. Cafe is average.
Excellent walking area for dogs and people. The cafe serves good food and great coffee.
Beautiful place for a walk, also lovely visitors centre with an excellent Cafe. Nice relaxing experience and well worth a visit. Well done to all at Thames chase your doing a great job!
Loved this place! Went there last Saturday and hired bikes for a ride. Good for couples, children, elderly and dogs. Really enjoyed the apple day with the market. Will return there soon.
Absolute gem of a place, Essex has a lot of great parks but this is one of the most special, we had our wedding reception in the barn at the height of summer, it was the best decision we could have made.
First visit. Nice park. Decent basic cafe. Various children climbing/ activity stations along the pleasant walk. Flat with good paths. Suitable for prams and cycling.
Ok. Visted a family recycling activity whuch was very well organised. The play area was restrictive as a climbing frame was closed off. The cafe was very disappointing. Long queues, expensive and had to clear own tables. Very untidy. Better to take packed lunch as theres areas to eat it.
My kids really enjoying coming here, the wooden climbing features may be a little tricky for a child under 3 but they do have a small swing park
It's a lovely big New Forest for the kids to ride bikes and play in kiddies playground lovely place for picnic area a lovely place to walk your dogs it's also a nice place for a troll track and and it's so nice cafe area and it's cheap for parking £2 for all day
Good park for easy family walking.
Cafe offering basic foods & good coffee at the moment.
Happy to recommend.
Beautiful only £2 for all day parking. Nice setting for a picnic followed by a pleasant stroll. Kids loved it.
Amazing beautiful family fun.

Great place for walking/taking the kids. Excellent playground, picnic and cafeteria facilities.
This place was Packed, loads of family's meeting up, loads of dog walkers... Kids being kids jumping in and outa puddles.... And plenty of dogs (well they all looked the same) black..😂😂😂😂
And our dog is white, BUT as long as they're aving fun.... Who cares🤔😂
Nice little woodland walk, great for young kids.
Nice place. Friendly people. Lovely walks, good cafe and shop. We went when craft fair on, even better.
Nice walks, lots of things to entertain families along pathways. fields, forests and play areas. Nice cafe to sit in and little shop.
Lovely place however was told by a member of staff there are no bins for rubbish, unless the rubbish was bought in the cafe. Therefore after our picnic we had to carry a back of rubbish around with us.
Nice cafe good for a walk round the trees. Only negative is too many bad dog owners not p up and the £2 parking in summer.
Great bike hire facilities, lovely little cafe and great play areas throughout the park for the kids! Zog trail is a must!
Nice for kids and dogs.
Great place for a nice walk followed by a nice cuppa in the cafe

An excellent place for a walk or bicycle ride. Park all day for £1 in the winter.
Very wet and muddy. All climbing frames have been removed, I guess to stop people gathering.
Love this place and visit regularly. Bikes for hire, lovely coffee shop with friendly staff and beautiful walks
A good place to hire a bike for the kids and let them cycle in safety with no cars nearby.
Lovely area with a great café. Shame it is so expensive to park, but the money does get used for the upkeep.
Not bad, kids had fun. Seems like improvements are being made so I'm sure it will be very good soon
Beautiful walks will be 5 star when cafe and park areas reopen
Good family day out, bike hire available and lots of shaded areas
It's a bit of a hidden gem as quite remote for non-locals but worth a visit as it's easily connected to other local nature reserves.
