Everything has it's pros and cons
Pros: litrelly on campus
Cons: no freedom to do what you like, you should follow the rules but rules exempt for staff

Very old building. Got some nice views of Newcastle from the top floor, the lift always works which is a bonus and the common room has a nice little cinema room setup.
There is a foosball table and air-hockey table in the back too.
It is a catered building with small kitchens on each side of each floor.
If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see the dog playing outside (a disabled students dog)

Good, but can do with some major improvements. Especially for the price.
The rooms are spacious, so you never feel cramped or lack space to work or have friends round for drinks/games/work. The communal area isn't really great for anything but the room sizes make up for that. Each floor has a 'kitchen' but really its a cupboard with a sink and fridge, a kettle that takes 30 minutes to boil water, and a microwave that may or may not work. You get an iron too. I bring this up because there isn't really a communal area for you to bump into flatmates and hang out or get to know each other like in other accommodations. Claude gibb doesn't really feel like shared accommodation, despite sharing toilets and a 'kitchen'.
The common room is a nice place to hang out with friends, but it is mostly full of people partying. If you are friends with a lot of people in the accommodation then the common room is an amazing place to have a party or pre drink.
The food ranges from ok to ehh. if youre vegan, you get quinoa if you're lucky. They did begin to produce much more vegetarian food as my year went by. Who knows, the food may be more vegan friendly for newcomers. Vegetarian food often ranged from a choice of quorn shephards pie or a lovely spinach and cheese pie...to days where the only option is cucumber and houmous or mac n cheese hotdogs. Breakfasts however, are always an excellent start to the day, so I recommend getting up early enough.
For the price the food is worth it and it feeds you. what more would you want?
If you arent paying for catered halls then you will probably have a hard time. you only get a microwave.
The building doesn't have great security, however it is located on campus so university security is always less than a few minutes away. But that doesn't stop preachers, and sometimes dangerous people bypassing security. After all, its just one door that requires someone being a nice person and opening the door for a stranger, that they assume probably lives there. But, as mentioned, security on campus are always a few seconds away so you don't need to feel unsafe
Some of the staff of the accommodation will try and fine your entire floor over minimal problems, regardless if it was your fault or not. Communal and room inspections are usually fine, but if the staff are having bad days or are in bad moods, they like to take it out on trivial things or make stuff up. But overall, the majority of the staff try their hardest to keep everyone happy. Just be prepared for many many passive aggressive emails from Jan. She loves to send EVERY EMAIL LIKE THIS REGARDLESS OF IF IT IS IMPORTANT OR NOT. EVERY EMAIL LOOKS ANGRY AND OFTEN THEY SOUND PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE and lots and lots of clip art. They are actually rather amusing though. This isn't a complaint.
if something is broken however, it takes forever to be fixed or replaced, and often they may try to blame you. bathrooms are not well ventilated and showers can be overwhelmed with steam and make breathing difficult. Always try and get the toilet with a window so you can get some airflow.
Noise travels really well through the building, so if you want a quiet night...good luck. you will probably be woken up in the middle of the night by drunk people in the common room, drunk people running and screaming down the corridors or banging on doors. if there is a party, then one or two of the three bathrooms may be destroyed and will remain destroyed until someone fixes it..or cleaners fix it. I would advise cleaning it yourself or making the person who destroyed it fix it. It may be the cleaners job, but they don't have to deal with awful people. Plus, you run the risk of getting everyone fined.

I have stayed in Claude Gibb for almost two years. It's cosy accommodation at less price. They've got a catering option, which is worth the money you spend. The friendly staff at the reception, always been helpful to me. The Common room is one the best places to make new friends.
The accommodation is very accessible to the university facilities. It helped me to cut shot my cost of travelling. Northumbria library is just a minute walk. You'll get to sports central in two minutes and Northumbria business school in five minutes walk.
If you want to do some shopping, Northumberland street is just five minutes walk.
Have fun mates

I have lived at Claude Gibb for 2 years now, and I only wish I had stayed here in my first year of Uni. The staff are very friendly, always smiling and happy to talk, and they deal with issues promptly. I am extending my tenancy so I can stay longer this summer!
