Reviews of Scottish SPCA Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre
C. F.
Fantastic charity! Great staff and well cared for animals. My youngest cat is a rescue from the Milton centre and I’ve had her for 7 years. Staff are only too happy to give out advice and information on any animals. They are always looking for donations, monetary or food/bedding to help them deliver their service
D. D.
Really friendly and welcoming staff. Gave great advice and have clearly really cared for the animal we've just collected from them.
A. M.
Perfect found cat returned to owner thanks spca
M. S.
The staff were very helpful, and their guidance and advice was spot on. I adopted a cat a few weeks ago and it's the most adorable natured animal. She was very timorous for a couple of weeks, but now she's settled in very nicely. Thank you everyone at the centre. We think she loves her new home.
L. C.
Went in with my son
And people were very nice and gave us all the information
He's mad about cars and wristbands
So he was so happy to see the cars and get some wristbands

Arthur as he is now known 😹 came to live with us in October. He was rescued during lockdown by my husband. He was found trapped in a sash window which had closed on his front leg. He had the leg amputated and is now loving life totally spoiled as a tripod. Super important tho to have these wee furry friends neutered and chipped. Arthur was neither of these, had he of been he may of been reunited with his people. However we were over the moon to give him his forever home 🐾🐈
J. H.
What a wonderful charity with so many dedicated workers and volunteers. My husband and I have applied to re-home a gorgeous boy and we are hoping to hear shortly if we have been successful. Everything crossed🤞🤞. Regardless, we will always support the SSPCA. May God bless them in all that they do. …
P.
Friendly caring people work here. Animals are a loved and well looked after.
A. M.
This is a fantastic place ,I got my 1st dog rusty as a pup from here ,and he had been abused by males at 8 weeks old.took him awhile to come out of his shell.
My 2nd dog I got was when he was 1yr/2yrs old he was complete opposite from rusty,Benji is very verbal, and a cheeky chappie, but he is slowing down now ,and has arthritis he is now 14/ 15yrs old .
I probably will get a house cat next as I am slowing down myself, but hopefully that won't happen for a few years ..yet.
E. L.
SPCA Glasgow has given me the most adorable wee girl who has brought much joy into our home. Can't thank them enough for everything that they did for her and do for hundreds of poor unfortunate animals thought Scotland.
J. H.
Always very kind, supportive & wonderful professional, informative & kind staff. Thank you all. I hope my donations make a tiny bit of a difference. Thank you for all you do.x
P. G.
Came to pick up a small rabbit with myxomatosis on the cycle path behind Halbeath Road. It was a difficult place to find and the RSPCA employee ended up walking from Queen Margaret Hospital- but still helpful and cheery.
R. M.
My previous two dogs from SSPCA have required extensive veterinary care. I wish I could re-home another dog or two but my previous experience is off putting.
E. R.
They didn't let me in and they explained to me a very tedious procedure to achieve the adoption of a dog, similar to adopting a person, I imagine they have their reasons.
I. P.
Lots of great dogs, unfortunately the really good ones are always either reserved or need alot of special requirements
J. J.
Called to give a much needed donation.wish people would help more even it was a little amount every thing helps.
L. N.
We have qlways got our animals from rspca. Milton has always been an excellent place for us
W. L.
The lady was so friendly and helpful
C. D.
I have rescued a number of hamsters from the Scottish SPCA. The wee creatures were well looked after and healthy and I was able to take home friendly animals that were used to being handled.
A. Y.
Very caring and helpful and recieved a call back to see how things were
Thankyou
E. M.
Lovely staff and even more lovely pets! We're currently going through the process of adopting a dog from them and they couldn't be nicer!
Edit: that's our lovely boy with us and couldn't be happier!
W. M.
Doing all they can to help animals in my view everybody should be doing their bit to help well done SPCA
C. R.
The lady I spoke to was very helpful and explained to me everything I needed to know about rehoming an animal
D. Y.
Both my lovely Cassie (dog) and Penny (cat) are rescued from the SSPCA and we couldn't have asked for more loving pets. The SSPCA are real super heroes to all the lost/unwanted pets.
J. Z.
Found your organisation very responsive, and positive. Sadly the fox in question was unlikely to survive, but caring and comfort even at that stage is important. Also pleased that your personnel followed up on my concerns that there may have been some sort of pattern in several similar deaths in local foxed.
M. M.
Applied for Danny but lots of applicants. My turn will come. 🤣 …
D. R.
Recently adopted a beautiful cat from the sspca (photo attached).
Always enjoy visiting the sspca. Only reason I have marked this center down a star is due to a couple of staff members that would rather sit about and chat amongst themselves and ignore potential adopters as they are looking at the animals.
K. W.
Great place and staff very friendly.. we have obtained two rescue dogs from here and can't fault anything at all
J. D.
Try and take some time out to hand in blankets and food.
Or even wee donation to help them out.🐶🐱 …
J. O.
Excellent and extremely kind. I found a pigeon that had been attacked by a cat. I know most people wouldn't care but they are a favourite of mine. Young man who came to my home was lovely and explained what he would do to help the bird. Very much felt assured when he took the bird away. I donate monthly to the SPCA because of my love of animals and also because they truly care about the welfare of all animals. Many thanks once again. Janis O'neill. 👍
C. H.
Excellent work they are doing I got womble and he is the best thing I have had.
M. M.
Thank you for ALL you do in helping the animals of Scotland. Thank you for promoting the treasures that adoptable animals are. We adopted two bonded Chi's from you in early 2020 who were shy and and they have been such a great addition to our family. We appreciated that you took the time to let our other dog meet them and to do the suitability checks to make sure the dogs were a good fit. We tell everyone about your fantastic services and encourage everyone to adopt and not shop and for all the great work you do for animals in Glasgow!
J. D.
About an hour wait but it was busy. Not sure if that's the reason for the appointment with the vet was very rushed
A. R.
Great people you need an appointment to view and of the animals.
G. S.
Reported a young flightless bird found near my home and they quickly came and took it to a rescue centre.
V. T.
Really good with the help of an injured bird, the girl came and was really nice and even shared some knowledge to me.
c. m.
Phoned with concerns for a stray animal they were very helpful and came for it fairly quickly
L.
Rescued our big bulldog almost 2 years ago. Never looked back. Cant thank the staff enough for everything. Hes one in a million
L. H. T. N. H.
Very honest & open. Told me all about who made false allegations about my very well loved family dogs. Such a shame there are true trolls out there!
C. M.
Because of everything that's going on just now places like the SPCA are being overrun
J. H.
Thanks guys for coming around mine I wish I could come around yours and see all your babys
D.
Well organised and caring pet environment considering the enormous challenges they face. Great facility.
L. B.
Great i rescued my little staffie 5 year ago and still have my loving little patchy boy he comes everywhere with me plus stays at my parents with me also my parents love him and spoil him to that's my boy hear x
T. N.
Phoned early Sunday morning to report a stranded seal pup and call was picked up and dealt with immediately. Turned out the pup was resting and made it back into the sea easily
T. G.
Got 2 of our beloved dogs from here. Best dogs ever
G. I.
I found a pigeon in undergrowth, no sign of a nest or parents, it didn't have enough flight feathers to fly. I took it home, called Scottish SPCA who were able to come and pick it up. The officer said it was under weight, and some of its feathers were damaged. She said they'd soon have it well enough to release. I felt relieved knowing I'd done the right thing.
N. H.
Quick service when they came out to rescue a jackdaw with a broken wing.
C. D.
Staff were friendly and very helpful. They let me spend most of the day with the dog i had choosen on my first visit, all paperwork started, staff were great when i took my other dog and daughter in for introductions they made a fuss of my dog and spent ages talking to my wee one, the staff also chased up my home visit which meant i was able to bring my new husky to her forever home quicker. Well done to the staff for the wonderful job you guys do
W. H.
Do a fantastic job what more can I say..if you have a few spare coins or notes ..why not donate
j. t.
Put step daughters dog in there as she's doing a bit of hmp but will get the dog back as she is the rightful owner. I just couldn't keep her as I am in ill health. Brilliant charity but please do donate to them
I. S.
My neighbours in the Gorbals, tried to get the SPCA to take away my cat for some futile act of revenge by telling the SPCA that she was being abused. So, the staff visited my home and cat and when I explained that it was all about some cheap and tacky display table, they laughed and apologized. What kind of low life's would try and get someone's cat taken away. I don't know, clearly a pair of wrong UN's.
D. G.
Let's say we all have different thoughts on what we think is good practice and seeing as you have more experienced than I
I can't really comment as it wouldn't be fair up until recently always been helpful and to be honest just a difference of opinion but!! As I said your more experienced than I am and thank you for all you do
M. B.
All changed due to covid. You apply online and meet the animal you are interested in. Much better than walking around getting the poor animals excited
A. G.
Very good experience. Their adoption form asks, in my opinion, more relevant questions than other organisations, the capacity is impressive and the care for the animals paramount in everything they do. We stay in a flat so there were many dogs that would not do well in that environment and the staff were open and honest with us. Equally they gave us advice on a suitable dog, things to try and look into and couldn't have been nicer. I think as long as you're committed to dealing with an animal who hasn't had a great start in life you'll find a friend here and they can find a happy home.
L. M. (.
I had to rescue a buggy that had made it in to my work i called the Scottish SPCA how dispatched a very helpful rescue worker how had found & rescued the outher buggy that had escaped from an elderly person's she took the one i had rescued and help to bring them both safely home to their owner very helpful and kind staff on the phone and in person
L. S.
Currently undergoing process of adopting at this centre.
The centre is immaculate, with a large carpark and kennels and cattery are extremely clean.
Staff at reception and animal care staff are extremely professional and very attentive.
The staff were fantastic. Would highly recommend anyone who wishes to adopt a dog/cat to visit this centre.
M. D.
I must say honestly Scottish hearts at its best the staff of the SPCA are just so fantastic in the job that they do you can feel that they love their job!
it was lovely to visit and I do find it difficult to go to an animal rescue centre as I want to rescue all of the dogs.
I wish that other rescue centres could be like that one !
The dogs were as comfortable as it is possible to get, all of the dogs had their own space and run.
Which was just great to see.
I didn’t leave feeling sad which is an obvious bonus when you leave a rescue centre!
I have left a gift in my Will for the SPCA and also to the rescue centre.
It would be nice if other people thought about doing that as well ( just a wee thought 🤔 )
We have to remember here in Scotland that it is the SPCA and that you have to specify that
In your donations.
The RSPCA is a wonderful charity as well, but they are different charities
The centre is well run and spotlessly clean
An absolute credit to the totally dedicated staff !
M. G.
We adopted a beautiful dog from here, many moons ago. He was part labrador, and was the most gentle soul. And so easy going. Loved Rex to bits.
L. L.
My beloved pet dog Hector passed on 27th of December this year the staff were very sympathetic and helped me with the process of putting my dog to sleep thank you for all your help that day as I was in pieces
R. O.
Knowledgeable and helpful staff who's main concern is for the animals in their care. If I could give more stars, I would. The facility in Cardonald is very clean and well organised. We got our new dog there. We were provided a full history of the dog. The staff also ensured that we were made aware of any behavioural issues and they were very thorough in ensuring that the dog was suitable for us and vice versa. Very professional place.
M. M.
Got referred to SPCA by give a dog a bone Josh and the staff very professional and very friendly couldn't have been more helpful got my lovely little dog Georgie
T. F.
Unbelievable service. What a fantastic job the SSPCA do, thankyou again for your help
E. D.
I can't thank the staff especially the manager of Cardonald cat and dog home enough. I went over today with a family member to collect her dog who was there under devastating circumstances. The manager dealt with the matter amazingly. She has made 3 boys feel a bit better. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you and appreciate what you did. If only there was more people like you x
B. G.
I phoned because I saw a dead fox on the pavement they gave me plenty of advice on what to do..
A. M.
Three stars is only due to the help the animals receive. The staff need to learn some manners and tact. The way they have spoken to me on several occasions is rude, arrogant and down right obnoxious. Maybe their face would break if they smiled or they would be violently ill if they were cordial, I don't know. I've donated to them every month for 15 years. I cancelled that donation today. My donations will now be in the form of pet food and blankets as not a penny more of my cash will go to paying the wages of such people.
C.
One of the best and most modern around. An excellent place that helps animals and their adoption service is great as well. Staff are amazing and so helpful. They will talk you through any addition prices as well as help you decide what might be best for you situation and wether addition would suit. They put the animals first and are not there just to hand animals out for adoption. The work they do is excellent.
L. F.
The place is huge first off, with separate sides for cats and dogs.
we were shown around the Cats by a lovely lady, she had a lot of knowledge and understanding, she was able to assist my mum in looking though the Cats, trying to decide on which animal she wanted.
We never got one but we will be back to visit
a. m.
Not had much luck in adopting a dog
l. g.
Very friendly and caring our wee family additions
L. M.
Not what I expected. I called ahead to enquire about a specific dog was told it would be possible to see, on arrival at center was told to have a look at the dogs on show, was disappointing when he wasn't there, was then told that he wouldn't be suitable as we don't have a garden. We explained we had rehomed dogs before and as we stay on the edge of fields, a nature trail and dams it wasn't a problem also on there website it said a garden would be preferred but not essential anyway we never got to meet the dog were very disappointed as we could have gave him a forever home and all the love, attention and devotion that he needs
C. L.
They care about the animals very much I got a wonderful staffie girl and was home checked to ensure her future was safe with me, which it is. Lovely people at reception too. You are doing great work, keep it up!
M. L.
Was quite shocked when we went up because of covid you still can't see the animals 😕 go online but it's not everyone that has online 😪 …
P. D.
Very pleased with helpful staff and cleanliness of the reception area and the cattery.
Holly looks after the cats so well. I was delighted to give a forever home to Chase and Sky, two 8 months old brother and sister who have settled in purrfectly.
J. H.
I have a problem with foxes in my street and there is nowhere on the website to allow me to email about the number of foxes in the street and the damage these foxes are causing.
The city council won't help and advised me to email the SSPCA, but that appears to be impossible .
G. M.
I phoned about an injured Swan and they went out that day to take care of it.
I called a few weeks later about an injured baby pigeon and they came out and got it that day. Thanks for all the work you do. Yous do a brilliant job.
M. H.
We left without a dog but with a very heavy heart. It's spotlessly clean the animals are all cared for with a good heart from a terrific bunch of people. Thanks for doing a your jobs with such good hearts. ❤️🌻 …
J. W.
I have on three occasions adopted animals - cats - from here and several times taken lost animals there.
Their facilities are excellent and a great help to animals that may otherwise have had to be put down.
When I would want a pet, this would be my first stop rather than a pet shop.
M. B.
We have been looking on the website for over a year now and find the information given about their dogs is direct and honest. Still searching for a solid match with a pup, but hopeful.
L. S.
So grateful to the staff at the spca, they do an amazing job. Thanks for helping the pigeons in my back garden 😀 …
W. A.
Took my 10 week old kitten here after picking him up from the Hamilton centre and the staff are just as helpful and welcoming. Was in and out in the matter of 10 minutes for my kittens vaccine with no troubles.
J. C.
We have now had the absolute pleasure of rehoming 2 dogs from this fantastic place. The staff were so great (we were still grieving for our old girl) and took their time, listening to our worries and woes.
Turns out we needn't have worried as they found us a fab wee addition to our family -
Our Marco.
It feels like he's been here forever, he is well loved, well spoiled and the centre of our world.
Thankyou! 🐕🐕 xx
L. A.
Great respect for this charity and I would never consider less than 5 stars
S. M.
Lady at front desk not welcoming. Was enquiring about a specific dog to which she gave me incorrect information. It was completely different from what was on her card. I'm not sure she got mixed up but just couldn't be bothered, very dismissive. SPCA do an amazing job rescuing all these animals, its a shame they aren't as helpfully with prospective owners.
H. F.
Cheryl came to my aid when I found an extremely ill fox. Unfortunately the fox had leptospirosis and could not be saved, however she dealt with the situation in a very caring manner. She was very knowledgeable and friendly.
J. W.
This place Is absolutely amazing
J. F.
Although it's impossible for these places to avoid a certain prison-like feel you can tell that the staff really care for their charges. It's well laid out and you can see the animals really clearly. We only went around the cattery so can't talk about the HUGE kennel area. If you want a pet come to somewhere like this. There are loads of pets who need a home. Some need extra care but still deserve love and a home.
PS Glasgow District Council really need to get down and clear the giant hogweed growing along the river at the back of the centre especially as it's getting very close to the fence in the car park. Nothing the centre can do about it and it's no reflection on them but if you go with kids make sure they don't go over that fence.
S. M.
Absluty outstanding can not give. Them a better score without. Them. I would. Not be able to bring home a very sick lady the officer who took was a angel just can't thank her enough
R. F.
Manager and staff are fantastic, the new buildings are amazing for the animals .
M. M.
We adopted duno who after introduction partnered our older dog. Every precaution to prevent conflict was taken. Dogs met in large outside as a past info was given too.
A. M.
I had contacted this Charity several times to ask about a certain Dog for adoption. I heard absolutely nothing back, I went back on the website to find the Dog was already adopted I get what you guys are busy but to not even get a reply is shocking.
J. M.
Little birds that couldn't fly amazing young man picked them up
C. A.
We adopted Ivy (formerly Ivory) from the centre. I cannot rate the centre and the staff highly enough as clearly, they care very much for all the animals in their care. Ivy's carer was Emma and we couldn't rate her highly enough with her knowledge and care of Ivy. We love Ivy very much and we are having a lot of fun with her. We are also having a Scottish holiday this year so that we can take her with us!
L. L.
Amazing charity. Very friendly and helpful staff who looked after our dog before we adopted him. Great work they do.
W. L.
Although there was a case of cat flu going round the staff are helpful and understanding.
We were there pricing indoor cats. It is best to call ahead and at the moment cats are £70-£90 each.
S. A.
i phoned up as we had a young visitor on our site at jordanhill campus a swan i think he was tired and lost so not wanting him to come to any danger i phoned spca and told them where he was and they responded very quickly and came to the rescue and he was taken to lochlomond and set free as i love all nature and animals i would never see any animal struggle all my friends etc. call me doctor do little keep up the good work guys use do an amazing job 👌👍🦢
A. G.
It's a year today since my wee dog Benji was left in their care. He is the second dog I have adopted from Cardonald. Izzy was adopted in 2002. Back then the staff were horrible and took no interest in the dogs. When I went to see Benji a week after he was left the staff were really nice and the place itself much better. The staff knew a bit about the dogs. I do think they need to insist on more info from people who leave their pets. I was told Benji was 4 but wasn't house trained but he was and has excellent call back. He wasn't socialised though so it has been a hard slog and still a long way to go to get him socialised. I'm lucky I have folk to help me. Apart from that he's a wee smasher. I was heartbroken when I was turned down by Dogs Trust because I live in a flat despite having my own bit of garden. But it was meant to be. Happy ending ☺
S. C.
Still looking for my new pet
m. m.
They do a fantastic job
I. M.
We adopted our boy Sylvester (originally called Gucci) November 26th '17 He settled in right away and is a friendly cat.... we attend to his every purr and miaow. The staff were very helpful, the cages were clean and all the cats looked well . So glad we went there..... 😻!! …
J. M.
Love what they do for all those poor animals
Only downside I don't understand is some poor dog's miss out in a forever home because some people haven't got a 5-6 foot fence around there garden or even have a garden 🤔🤷
Otherwise i would have given a 5star
But love what they do angel's for all the animals 💜💜
C. W.
I have recently rehomed a little cat on the advice of my son. This place is wonderful the staff are lovely professional and kind.we picked out our little Charlie she got speywd microchipped and inoculated before we got to take her home. I cannot thank themenough and would say if you are looking for a pet to consider rehoming
a. w.
Very pleasant people even though we never took dog
M. M.
Wonderful organisation. Great staff. Was dropping off a donation of a pet carrier. Support them, people!
I. M.
The charity is superb, just picked up our new dog from the Hamilton branch, however these guys were quite short with us and not very helpful. Very different experience between the two centers!
n. j.
Adopted a lovely wee cat from here. There are lots of animals that need to be rehomed and they are looked after, with food and care provided. However, the attitude of most of the staff was disappointing. They could be a lot more welcoming considering people are adopting an animal.
R. C.
A place where Saints work. 🙌 …
G. W.
Was only looking online no particular reason
K. K.
Can get very busy with long queues - vets are very professional. Be aware that it is very difficult to get through straight away on the phone, so persevere or visit reception early.
s.
Staff are very friendly and helpful. Rehomed a beautiful wee cat with them and they answered all the questions I had about her.
M. W.
Loved taking my yorkshire terrier we got from cardonald cat and dog home .to open day on saturday 4th may .staff are great and so knowledgeable in what they do .well done to all the staff we enjoyed our time with you

Very good place great to see all the animals cared for so well. I have had 4 rescues from here they have all been done by josh and I have to say he is very helpful and makes the experience as stressfree as possible
S. P.
This is a great place, the staff are lovely and very professional. They do a wonderful job in looking after the animals.
K. S.
Got my little cat from here a week or so ago, really helpful staff and my cat is the centre of my world. If you are even considering adopting go along and see the animals - you wont be able to leave without one.
J. H.
Lovely friendly people and the place is immaculate. The animals are clearly well cared for. A joy to adopt from as the support is exceptional. Well done x
D. N.

Love this place just booked a cat, the staff were helpful and kind and it's obvious the animals they take in are comfortable there until they find their new homes
K. E.
Excellent place , exceptional people. They do an amazing job. Clean and friendly environment.
S. J.
Beautiful now it has been expanded and you can now go indoors to see the dogs. Still too many dogs being abandoned in need of new homes but the staff are doing a great job x
L. B.
The lady I spoke with on the phone when u thought I'd found an injured bird was really kind and helpful
l. h.
I am looking for a young family dog, but there wasn't anything suitable as it needs to be a hypoallergenic breed.
L. B.
Adopted a little terrier from here and it was the best life experience. Highly recommend
C. P.
Great staff wanted to take all the dogs home. Very busy so may have to be patient to find the right pet for you
M. F.
Great staff.... Loads of info..... Delighted to be rehoming shortly.
C. m.
Amazing team came out to help the rabbit
A. W.
We have adopted our dog and cat from Cardonald several years apart, staff have been very helpful and caring each time.
D. M.
Third time I've called them about a wild animal in distress and they've always come and took them away. Volunteers seem passionate and educated!
N. L.
Super people, really care for the animals. Definitely worth a visit you won't be disappointed
K. A.
Great cause and plenty of dogs looking to be rehomed.
S. B.

Lovely place, very beautiful. Dont go barefoot/flipflops, take swim shoes with hard bottom. Stoney sand sore on the feet
J. D.
Took my call about a young deer, sent someone out sane afternoon. Pleasant and caring call handler.
N. D.
Ah, sad place to visit as its like animal jail ...But animals seem very well looked after, very clean surroundings and staff are great, very helpful. Informative and hands on.
K. M.
Thought they would have been more responsive TBH.... It's as if they couldn't be bothered.... Understand there busy..
E. D.
So friendly and welcoming, clearly the staff care so much about the animals! Thank you for introducing us to our lovely cats!
J. L.
We adopted our baby dog, Poppy and she is a huge part of our lives. Thank you to all the staff at the Cardonald Branch and thank you for all that you do for unwanted and abandoned animals xx
B. M.
Adopted our Lola from here, if i could i would adopt all the animals, God bless them, dont understand why people would discard these poor animals like a used tissue
e. g.
The staff the vets and the general place is magnificent thank you so much for looking after us and the cat family we took from you
J. M.
Adopted my beautiful cat using their virtual rehoming service. Reassuringly thorough process.
J. C.
