Reviews of Sangye Yoga - Jivamukti Affiliate London

Studio with a soul and integrity. If you are serious about yoga - Sangyé has everything to help you grow your practice, whether you are just starting (lucky you, to start there) or have been practicing for years. Hard working teachers - to serve their students better, to grow their own practice to be able to teach better; community of students, ready to help you, nice facilities. Sangyé regularly runs workshops and events, watch out for the updates on their website and FB page.
I stepped into Sangyé Yoga School first time in 2016, during brief family weekend in London, and been so many times since - sometimes making plans to come to London just so that I could come back for a class or as many as I can make in a short time I am in London.

I have been attending Sangye school for a very long time i think more 8 years. Sangye became quickly a second home. the sense of community and togetherness created in sangye by Cat and phil the owners is unprecedented. in fact I don't think there is any other school here in london that created that sense of home community a place of true practice. yoga is unity in body and mind not a physical exercise only that is a consequence. yes there are good places around with great visiting teachers. Here Cat and phil are integral in the teachings from Challenging asanas to being generous in giving out the vast knowledge in the yoga philosophy in particular buddhism. every month is set with a theme that is somehow cleverly integrated into the practice and that one can take with them outside the mattress to everyday life. last month was mind training and this month is generosity. the experience and diligence is top at sangye and the choice of their teachers like emily, danni, melody antonia is of very high quality encompassing the same values. Cat gives 300 percent of herself to her teaching and sangye. and expects also hard work. she is challenging both in her asana practice and in mind practice.
IT IS THE BEST place no doubt.

Sangyé has been a second home for a while. It's a lovely space with amazing and supportive teachers. And a really good mind and body workout. Emily, Dannii, Antonia, Joe, Tish, Cat and Phil: thank you.

I stumbled across this studio by chance in 2016 and honestly I am so grateful because this place has become my sanctuary. All the teachers are warm, welcoming and highly skilled, each with their own distinctive style of teaching that makes the classes both interesting and enjoyable - there is absolutely no sense of judgment or competition. There are a variety of classes and times that enable you to find a class that suits you and every teacher is very attentive at making sure you are doing the poses correctly and most importantly safely. The space is beautiful, cosy and relaxing with a calm vibe. Cat is one of my fav teachers - she has a great sense of humour! I always enjoy those spontaneous laughs during the practice!

Kind considered teaching, a strong practice ethos and with helpful options for different levels set in a calm inviting space. There is more to Yoga than the eye can see and Sangye Yoga is a strong supportive guide with a fantastic roster of teachers to help. I've found that it is the skill, honesty and sensitivity of the Sangye teachers that can support you to go just a little further and deeper. Sometimes the music helps too;)

Update - we were refunded and mgmt have said things have changed...
Quite disappointing - in an age when physical workshops are being rapidly replaced by online sessions, it's highly surprising and disappointing to be charged £17 for a session yet see the yoga instructor sitting behind a microphone and reading instructions to the class with the enthusiasm and energy of a teenager made to do her homework by her parents on a sunny Sunday morning with all her friends playing outside. Management/owners, pls take note...

Best place to practice yoga in London. The teachers are amazing, very professional and caring. Sangye is not just a yoga studio. It will become part of your life!!!

Sangye yoga is a life changing studio. I've done yoga across a few large cities, and Sangye yoga is the best one I've been to in my life. My 1 hr here is the best part of my week. The combination of chanting, music, asanas and great teachers that care about you makes this place magical. If you're thinking of going, I'd highly recommend it.
D. N.
Best yoga I have tried! The combination of the music, great teachers and intense practice.

A collection of the most amazing teachers in a fantastic, well maintained and well managed studio, along with a warm and welcoming community feel - what’s not to love?
Those that teach here all have their own style but everyone is expert and classes are fantastic. A good mix of movement, breath, philosophy and meditation.
This must be one of the best places to do Yoga in the world.

Super pleased with this studio. I love the instruction and the principle of teaching the class by instruction rather than demonstration, hearing rather than watching. Teachers are very observant and adjust you well through the practice. I prefer the morning class which I smaller than the evening one but either of them is great. I truly love the fact that morning class ends with meditation. Oh and the chanting, it's such a great thing to add it to the practice which they never fail to do at the Sangye studio.
Probably wouldn't recommend it to absolute beginners though.

Best place to practice yoga in London. An intense vinyasa flow backed by good music will be a full body workout (forget the gym), buy also a mindfulness exercise that will sort you out after a hectic day in the office. Great crowd of students and practitioners, many of them regulars - but very welcoming. I was brought randomly by a friend two years ago, and became addicted since... All teachers of highest caliber - but especially recommend classes by Cat, Emily and Melodie.

It was such a relief to find the studio here in London. When we moved from New York 8 years ago, one of the first thing I did was to look for a welcoming, professional and inspirational yoga studio. Excellent teachers, warm atmosphere and genuine interest in promoting holistic yoga are all there to create the perfect environment to source and renew one's energy yet continue to challenge oneself. Despite hectic professional travel and a very busy schedule, the centre offers so much that I always try to make time to come at least once a week.

Sangyé is my happy place. If you are serious about your yoga practice, this is the place to be. Amazing teachers teaching at a very high standard. I've met so many wonderful people at this studio and whenever I leave London, I miss it terribly. Would give 10 stars if I could.

My favourite Yoga studio - exceptional teachers both on a physical, mental, spiritual and intellectual level. I have been visiting for over 15 years and even though I've moved away from London I make the effort to journey in regularly because there is nothing else quite like Sangye Yoga. Beautiful space to practice in.

A true gem... not many words can describe how special Sangye Yoga school is. All the teachers really care about students development. I’m very grateful to have access to this special yoga school and it will always have a place in my heart. Make sure you go and check this gem out!!!

Sangye is a stunning spacious studio flooded with natural light , at the heart of a warm and welcoming community of teachers and students in the heart of west london . Step through the door and you will be greeted with a big smile and welcome by the front desk team. This beautiful calming space is always my first choice for regular practice. The full daily schedule of classes with a wide mix of wonderful and experienced teachers offers a class which is just right for you whatever your level .The number of classes throughout the day and evening allows lots of opportunities to practice whatever your personal schedule is. The inspirational teaching, the philosophy and the class playlists are the perfect combination for anyone who is embarking on or progressing on their yoga journey. Special workshops , kirtan and events are scheduled on a regular basis and the opportunity to practice with visiting teachers from other corners of the world is an additional treat from Sangye. And let's not forget this special studio also has a great little shop and delicious tea after class!

The moment I stepped into this studio three years ago I had an intuition that the Sangye/JYL tribe were going to be a big part of my life. The atmosphere of the studio is so calming - you leave feeling like you've been given a huge, reassuring hug. You know that the practice is never complete, but you've got a safe space at Sangye to begin again, every single time. The standard of the teaching is outstanding, the teachers are knowledgeable and unique and the classes are always, dare I say it, FUN. I would recommend Sangye if you are ready to face who you really are, on and off the mat. Thank you to all the teachers and community for making this place the haven that it is!

I started coming to this studio about 4 years ago. It changed my life.
Now I don't live in the UK anymore, and I still find opportunities to come to the studio and practice. Would you spend 4 hrs on a plane to be able to come to a Yoga class? :) That's how good this place is.
Physical practice at Sangye is quite intense (you'll end up sweating a lot), but, what is perhaps even more important, teachers here always find a way to speak about not some far-away 'yogic stuff', but about real things, real issues, real questions that bother each and every one of us.
I highly recommend this place (especially Cat Alip-Douglas' and Phil Douglas' classes). Bring a towel! You'll sweat :)
R. W.
Amazing yoga school. Expanded my life. For those willing to honestly explore yoga and, more importantly, their own experience of being human, the teachers here provide a clear conduit. That’s not always comfortable, but it is always authentic.

I found this little gem 5 years ago...and I am so glad I did!!! A warm and welcoming space with amazing Jivamukti yoga teachers and friendly faces all around. The classes are very inspiring and they will challenge you at both physical and intellectual level. Thanks to them yoga is now an integral part of my life; it has transformed it at many levels, for the better :). Truly addictive, you really have to experience it by yourself!!

I first visited the Jivamukti Yoga Studio in Kensal Rise in February 2005 and after almost 8 years I am there almost every week - that says something.
From the time you step in the studio you feel comfy and at ease, you feel the warm atmosphere. The teachers are amazing, each one with their own individual style - but with the same professionalism, enthusiasm and ready to serve each of the students equally. The adjustments (present at all jivamukti classes) are really helpful and they can get you deeper into the pose, much deeper in many cases that you could imagine and correct your alignment. The classes are very dynamic and challenging (physically and mentally) but they can suit everybody from beginners (beginners classes), intermediate and advanced practicioners (open classes) as different levels of difficulty are given by the teacher for the more challenging postures. The bonus at the end is a very nice head, neck and shoulder massage that is greatly appreciated after the dynamic class and the sweat that you leave on your mat..:)
If you are looking for just a vigorous physical practice, you will be very excited after your class. If you start looking for something more this is your place.
Now after 8 years, I cannot imagine my life in London without the Jivamukti Studio, however dramatic this might sound. It is a lovely community and you need to visit the studio to really feel what I mean.

I've recently started yoga classes at this studio. Despite my lack of experience, I can say that it's the best way to evade the stressful everyday life. All teachers are very helpful and have friendly approach to each customer. The schedule of the classes perfectly suits me. It definitely was a good choice.

Having only recently found Sangye Yoga, i cannot recommend this place enough! Such a beautiful, welcoming space in which to come and practice yoga! And such challenging classes from the very best teachers you will find! A wonderful place to come together for all things yoga :)
T. M.
I've been practising at the studio for over a year and bit now and I honestly couldn't find a fault with it if I tried. I moved here from South Africa and it took me quite a long time to find a studio that was warm, welcoming and interested. The facilities are beautiful, clean, great space, loan mats and props if needed (for free!!) and the teachers really do get to know you and your practice and take a concerted effort and interest in consciously developing your practice with you. I must admit I had never spent much time on the 'spiritual' aspect of yoga but have found that with Jivamkukti I have become more aware of the actual 'practice of yoga'. The basics classes are pretty awesome (even if you've been practising for a while) - great for alignment, which helps to avoid injuries and all sorts of unneccsary aches and pains. Open classes are invigorating, challenging (both physically and mentally). I have been to a few yoga studios here and there but, to be honest, everything really does pale in comparison.
Fiscally, I think the rates are quite competitive and they offer great packages (the year contract is a steal!!)
I'd say if you're looking for a work out, great! and if you're in for that and something more you'll definitley find it (or at least start looking for it here)

I am so grateful this amazing studio exists!
Thankyou to all the beautiful teachers and those welcoming each student at the front desk for making Jivamukti London such a special and sacred place to inspire and grow my yoga practice. I have practiced in studios across the globe and this is my favourite.

Jiva London is the place I come to find serenity. The teachers are fantastic, I would like to especially mention my dearest Cat Alip-Douglas, who has the super-power of recharging her students with her challenging classes and thought-provoking talks. It takes only one class to become a devoted follower of hers be it in Scotland, Cambodia or Moscow.
